it's spirit week at my school, and tomorrow is anything but a backpack day...

So today there was the Anything But A Backpack event at my younger sibling’s school. They asked, and I volunteered to be their “backpack”. We weren’t sure if we could get away with bringing a whole-ass person to school, and I’d already graduated from this place a few years ago, but figured we would give it a try anyway.

We get dropped off this morning, go to the child’s first class of the day, and nothing happens. I meet and speak with THREE of my old teachers, they all recognize me, vocalize the fact that I am no longer a student there to others in the room and nobody bothers to question if I have the permissions to be there(I didn’t, we didn’t bother asking and just went while hoping my old student id that I kept would keep people from asking questions.)

The class period rolls by, my sibling and I go to their next class with another one of my old teachers who ends up being the only one to ask if I have permission to be there and I say yes(y’know, like a liar.) I leave campus, again w/o any interference, get lunch and come back for the final class of the day.

It’s Biology w/ a teacher the child hates. We walk in, no one questions the random new person in the class, the child takes their seat and I hide out underneath one of the science lab tables to charge my phone. It stays that way until I get up to throw away some leftover trash from lunch and get some weird looks from a couple of the kids who hadn’t realized I’d been in the class at all. I go back to my spot and wait out the end of the class where someone finally asks who I am and I get called a backpack.

We’re gonna see if we can do it again tomorrow, there’s going to be different teachers so who knows. I think we can get away with it again, but we’ll see.

I've got to tell someone, but I want it to be a surprise for my students, so I'll post it here.

We're having Anything But a Backpack Day on Tuesday, and I could be normal and bring a microwave to school or something, but, you see, I've got a particular set of skills.

Now, I'm not, like, apply to Lego Masters good, but I'm pretty sure I can build a basic Lego house sturdy enough to house my teacher supplies for a day of school.

I mean, how hard could it be, right? For the record, to ensure max stability on the bottom, I put a layer of flat pieces over the base plates.

Every good house needs plenty of windows, but my house needs to be taller because my pile of teacher things is taller than your average Minifig, so I elevated my windows to be higher than floor level like the doors are.

I couldn't build the sunroom big enough for the original mug, so I traded it in for a smaller coffee mug.

I finished it off with a nice roof, made of 2 layers of flat pieces for extra durability.

The entire build took about 2 hours (Approximately the amount of time it took to listen to Taylor Swift's Tortured Poets Department on Spotify simultaneously as I built this)

Proof that all of my stuff fits in here. For those concerned about the laptop at the beginning, I will NOT be actually carrying my expensive laptop from my car across the gravel parking lot through the main building then back outside all the way to my modular classroom. It will be safe in a shockproof laptop bag on the journey into and out of school. However, to prove to my students this Lego house is my "backpack" for the day, the laptop does need to fit. I can easily get it in and out because there is one extra row of studs between the laptop and the walls.

Can we get something that women in their 30s and 40s might actually like? I mean, "hey! we have disposable income now! can you make something decent enough to spend it on?" I feel like if Marvel haven't figured out that there's a market for women here too then they've been sleeping. It'd be nice to get something before I'm as old as Bernie. :/
