Boomer: An expert at building deadly robots and weapons. Boomer often keeps to himself and his machines. Despite this, he's incredibly strong and shouldn't be underestimated in a fight.
In appearance I made Boomer slightly more pudgier than Rotor. And his arms and head attachments are removable.
Boomer doesn't like socializing but when called to, he will show up for the squad and work with them begrudgingly.

Distant Twin (sneak peek)

Anti Mobius Sonic (later Scourge the hedgehog) has just escaped twice from No zone prison after Zonic rearrested him for stealing spare parts of giant borg (sonic super special issue 10) and vandalizing the wall "Sonic is here" in the dimension of Litigopolis where J.U.D.G.E. ruled (sonic super special issue 14). Unhearthened by his Anti boom counterpart and Anti St John, Anti Mobius Sonic returned to his dimension, overthrow Anti Sally and kicked out St John. Anti Freedom fighters weren't willing for his return but at least its better than under Anti St John. At this point, they are running out of ideas since they lose against Freedom Figther and Anti Boom Team Sonic. Hence, Anti Sally suggested that they invade Mirror Boom world, Alternate boom world and Sonic boom world as they are weaker dimension. Plus, the border between Sonic Boom world and Anti Sonic boom world is less guarded. Hence, Anti Freedom Fighter managed to invade Mirror Boom world and Alternate Boom world. As Anti Freedom fighter reached Sonic Boom world, they defeated Team Sonic easily even go as far as strangling the leader. All hope was lost until Team Sonic's villain counterpart from Anti Boom dimension defeated Anti Freedom Figther. Zonic arrested Anti Mobius Sonic to zone cop again however give strict warning to other member of Anti Freedom Figther and confiscated their weapons for 2 months. Afterward, Zonic legalized the Anti Boom dimension invasion of Anti Green Hills as reward for helping Sonic Boom world after all Anti Green Hills zone is always part of Anti Boom dimension. However, Zonic knows the main reason Anti Boom Team Sonic helped its non antiverse counterpart is to prevent Scourge from taking over his dimension.

Been rewatching Satam a bit ad I noticed something. Almost every post-pubescent Mobian Male on the show wanted to fuck Sally. She was such. an it-girl. Even Antoine and a random goat dude named Griff in an episode wanted to fuck her. The one of the very very few exceptions was Rotor, and that's probably because as the token fat "ugly" dude he knew his place.
Yeah they were fatfobic which is sad because begin Chubby or fat isn't ugly.
I'm Chubby myself and I consider myself and okey Girl; not ugly or beatiful. That's where my sister shines more than me by the way.
If I was the writers of that show I would have change It for admiration afterall how could the Young princess escape the evil claws of Robotnik and still getting away from him? That's something remarkable if we go by the context if the show

SEGA Mandates explained with their exceptions (Old)
Edit: (Plan on remaking this with a better format and sources, along with ones I missed)
Edit 2: Here's the New One
Game characters cannot have family members unless they were established in the game canon (Because Archie went overboard).
Game characters cannot be killed off.
Sonic cannot cry or get too emotional.
Exception: Sonic Prime didn't follow this rule despite being canon.
The terms Mobius and Mobians are banned, during the early 2010s, Earth was called "Sonic's World" because they wanted to appeal to 90s Boomers who hate Sonic living on Earth without calling it Mobius, it died down later though.
Exception: Ian Flynn has stated SEGA recanonized Sonic Spinball, which takes place in Mobius, so it exists somewhere in game canon, Veg-O-Fortress even has a cameo in Sonic Origins, Ian also stated Spinball takes place in between Sonic 3 and Knuckles and Sonic 3D Blast.
The heroes must always win at the end.
Characters and elements from Non Canon media cannot be used, Cosmo and the Metarex were potentially allowed to appear but according Ian Flynn, they're off the table now, the Metal Virus serves as a replacement for Robotization, Eggperial City serves as a replacement for Robotropolis, Restoration serves as a replacment for the Freedom Fighters.
Exceptions:
Sonic liking Chili Dogs (90s Cartoons)
Eggman's "I hate that Hedgehog!" and "Snooping as usual" lines (Aosth)
Scratch and Grounder appear in Eggman's livestream in one of the covers for IDW 40
Sonic's "Let's do it, to it" line (Satam)
Sonic being referred to as the "Fastest thing alive" (Satam)
Sonic Spinball being canon again, somwhat canonizes Sally, Bunnie, Rotor, Muttski and Scratch, Ian Flynn has clarified they're just cameos for now but could be a backdoor to make them canon if SEGA chooses to (Aosth, Satam, Archie)
In one of the covers for IDW 31, Storm's mugshot mentions he was arrested by the Knothole Village Police (Satam, Archie)
Tails being afraid of lightning (OVA)
Knuckles's cowboy hat (OVA)
Vector's crush on Vanilla (Sonic X)
Cream's favorite show, the NEXT Show (Sonic X)
The Chaotix Office building appears in the Sonic Channel Comics (Sonic X)
Sticks the Badger appears in the Sonic Channel Comics and is mentioned in English Sonic Frontiers (Sonic Boom)
The Eggnet has been canonized in both IDW and the Games (Archie)
The GUN Commander's name, Abraham Tower (Archie)
Bark being mute (Archie)
Bean and Bark working with Fang as a trio, Sonic even calls them the Hooligans (Archie)
Sally and Bunnie cameo in one of the Sonic Forces prequel comics with their Archie designs (Archie)
Shadow's Chaos Spear being shaped like an actual spear that he can throw or use as a melee weapon (Archie)
Badniks from Sonic Mega Drive appear in Classic IDW (Archie)
The term, Super Badnik (Archie)
Male characters that aren't humans, can't wear pants.
Exception: Tails Nine is allowed to wear pants.
Classic Era characters aren't allowed to appear in Modern Era and vice versa, during the 2010s there was the Two Dimensions retcon because of it, however they later removed it, Team Chaotix are also not allowed to appear in Classic because they considered Sonic Heroes to be their first appearance, however Knuckles Chaotix was recanonized in Tailstube, in the same episode, they acknowledge Mighty, Ray and Fang's Gang and teased a Modern Trip, recently, SEGA is considering retiring Classic Sonic after the disappointment of Sonic Superstars.
Exception: a Classic Froggy appears in various Sonic PICT artwork
Only one Metal Sonic is allowed, not multiple (They must really dislike Shard and Metallix)
Exceptions:
Metal Sonic 3.0 from Sonic Rivals 2
Chaos Sonic and Grim Sonic from Sonic Prime were allowed
Shadow: He has the most guidelines out of any character, most of them come from SEGA wanting Shadow to remain an Anti-Hero and not be too heroic, however SEGA has easied up on these with Shadow Generations
Knuckles: Knuckles is the only Echidna and only resident of Angel Island besides Chao and Baby Animals, (Ken Penders lol), Knuckles is also not allowed leave Angel Island without a reason now, prolly due to critiques with games like Heroes
Silver: Silver's Future is off limits, only SEGA can explore that, if they ever choose to
Super Forms: Male hedgehogs are the only ones allowed to go Super, this has been changed with Sonic Superstars and Otherworld Comedy.
Humans: Due to complaints from 90s Boomers, Humans besides Eggman weren't allowed until Shadow Generations
Romance: Characters can have crushes but they can't date or get married.
Money: Only Team Chaotix can talk about money
Rings: Ian Flynn was told Rings were no longer canon, however Rings appear in Sonic Prime and cutscenes in The Final Horizon, which Ian didn't know about
Special Stages: No longer canon and Fang's bio of living in the Special Stages is retconned
Off Limits Characters: These characters can only be used by SEGA/Sonic Team only:
Eggman Nega
Black Doom
Solaris (Mephiles and Iblis)
Infinite

HI TOP GUN FIC WRITERS!
So I’ve got some inside knowledge on the workings of Top Gun or more so the military in general (specifically SD military) as I’ve been lucky to work at both Miramar and North Island as well as been deployed on a ship. So thought I’d share for anyone writing their stories and wanting to use it when thinking of ideas or even getting into the writing phase:
DISCLAIMER - I am a civilian and I mostly worked with the marine corps, but I’ve got 13 years with the USMC and 1.5 with USN along with a lifetime of San Diego Navy Brat in me. While I would love to think I’m an expert always feel free to fact check some things.
I’ve made sure all information shared below is public information to not allow for any CUI to be mistakenly released in accordance with OPSEC.
Use what you want & ignore what you don’t want, love reading your stories either way you creative people!
MIRAMAR INFO
Quick History:
Formerly NAS Miramar (est. 1952) and now MCAS Miramar (est. 1997), this is the main hub for Fighter Jet aviation in the San Diego area but strictly Marine Corps Aviation now. Of course some branches touchdown and fly through but there are no active navy squads. This base is relatively close to the water cause it’s San Diego but it’s 4 miles inland so it is land locked and depending on traffic about 30-45 minutes from NASNI (not 4 hours like I read somewhere once). This is the OG Top Gun base, a lot of the places in that original movie are still there but VERY different because it’s been updated quite a bit and the marines own it now.
Their aircraft on base are:
F/A 18 Super Hornet - Very cool, TGM jets
F-35 B&C Lightning - EXTREMELY COOL JETS, these babies are very top secret but are publicly known for their vertical landing capability. Can technically takeoff vertical (but limited in that aspect)
KC-130 Hercules - big support planes used for aerial refueling and other support missions
CH-53E Super Stallion - Awesome Cargo helicopters that move large loads and equipment
MV-22 Osprey - If a plane and a helicopter had a baby! These incredible fixed wings use tilt rotors to vertically take off/land and then tilt those propellers forward for flight (If you haven’t seen one transform check it out they’re amazing). Used for troop transport, special operations, and humanitarian aid.
NAS NORTH ISLAND INFO
Quick History:
Commissioned in 1917 and recognized as the birthplace of Naval Aviation in 1963 it’s a beacon of navy pride. Now, time to mess with some Top Gun Movie canon: this base has never had USN Strike Fighter Tactics Instructor Program (aka Top Gun). Maverick was filmed here, but the program lived on Miramar when it was founded in 1969 and then was relocated to NAS Fallon in 1996 (shoutout Fallon, and they filmed out there BUT Nevada is boring why base their story out there when it could be based here). NASNI is now a master helicopter base, there are no active fighter jet squadrons on north island - but I believe they host them across branches here and there!
Their aircraft on base are:
MH-60 Seahawks - Incredible helicopters that are used in so many missions such as anti-submarine warfare, anti-surface warfare, vertical replenishment, passenger and cargo transfer, and search and rescue capability
V-22 Osprey - the same the Marines use but now being adapted into North Island. Again very cool aircraft with the best (and worst) of both worlds as a fixed wing and a rotary.
Learjet 35 - comfortable transportation aircraft
C-40A Clipper - basically a military 737
NAS LEMOORE
I won’t put too much info in here because I know it’s not the “cool canon movie base” but I will note this is the navy’s west coast Master Jet base since its commission in 1961! It’s in Kings County/Fresno County.
OK NOW LET’S ‘FACT CHECK’
Again take what you want from my ramblings these are just some things I notice in fics that contradict actual military policy and life. But even the movies don’t follow that, so just take these as tools for writing ideas!
Navy = Sailors (Pilots = Naval Aviator)
Marines = Marines
Army = Soldier
Air Force = Airman
Mix these up and someone could get annoyed with you and they’ll often correct you on the spot. Think of the branches like fraternities or sports teams - yes they’re playing the same game but they love to compete against each other. Plus they’re high key frenemies.
There’s a strict dress code on base including in the Gyms
Attire should be conservative and modest, with no revealing clothing, undergarments visible, or items designed for undergarments at all times. For the girls it’s even more rules because of course it is so no mini skirts, no cleavage, no crop tops. Some bases take this more seriously than others and you can get in trouble for it.
In the gym you have to have shirts on at all times, no booty shorts, absolutely no wearing only sports bras, no stringer tank tops and all that jazz.
Beach is fine though cause it’s the beach, and don’t worry I get it people wanna like good in their fics so slay away lol
Fightertown is not an actual town
It’s also not north island, it’s still Miramar. That was the nickname for the base itself so it stayed there with the marines that took it on in 1996. Plus a good way to keep the history of Fightertown united and in its OG place.
You cannot be permanently stationed anywhere in the US Navy.
You go where they want and need you. Some fics talk about the daggers becoming a full time squadron which honestly could happen, as squadrons come and go all the time however from my experience pilots have to move every 2-3 years and the daggers would be changed out. There’s some cases where they can request to “fleet up” to stay in that squadron or even bounce to another squadron and stay in the same spot but that’s a wish that cannot always be granted.
Dating in your squadron has consequences
In the U.S. Navy, while dating another sailor in your unit is generally not prohibited, it could potentially lead to a transfer or other issues if certain conditions are met. There’s a very strict fraternization policy which prohibits relationships that compromise the chain of command, good order, and discipline.
One aviator dating another aviator sounds fine because they’re two officers who tf cares, but there’s a very high chance one of you will be sent away if they feel it risks the unit/squad. Note how I say if they feel, you might be fine with it and it might be you two get along great but if a higher up says no - someone’s gotta go.
Also no officer enlisted, there’s technically ways around this like if they were married before or dating before but in the same command? Forget about it. BIG no. Could be a cute Romeo and Juliet thing forbidden love - this is just talking on the reality of it.
Civilians are not allowed on base
Unless they are directly being escorted on base by a service member or they are a dependent/civilian employee with their own credentials they are not coming on base. Even if they ask nicely and say you know so and so, this has been even tighter since 9/11 but in the past few years it’s gotten much more strict. There are Air Shows on bases which open them to the public but without that there’s pretty much no chance you’re getting on base. If you did then someone is getting their ass beat.
The Hard Deck is based on the I Bar

While the Hard Deck is fictional (although the set they made which is very real and somewhere locked away on north island) the I Bar is very real! Amazing place and they have someone who’s their version of Penny and has been working there for a very long time that the aviators love along with their other awesome bartenders.
Those rules in the bar are pretty close to the real ones which are:
“He who enters covered here buys the bar a round of cheer” (you aren’t supposed to wear a uniform cover or hat anywhere inside although some places let hats slide not here though they will ring you)
No phones on the bar
No hats/covers on the bar
Don’t touch the planes! It’s in the movie as well but the real bar has authentic donated model planes that they added this rule to make sure they live a long life without being broken.
There’s no official “disrespect a lady or the navy..” but it’s unspoken - the guys in there will call you out and there’s some very high ranking people who go frequently and you don’t want them catching you pulling that in their bar.
Now another new thing is that they can’t “make you pay” anymore so if you violate a rule they’ll ask if you’d like to. That being said they added this rule because of the influx of people wanting to see the bar because of Top Gun but the pilots HATED THIS and you will piss off a lot of aviators for not following their traditions. But if you do pay up? So many new friends lmao
Used to be an officers/aviators only bar, but it’s open for everyone who has access to the base.
North Island is not its own Island

NAS North island is a base located on the island Coronado. It’s a navy heavy island mixed with a lot of very rich people. Houses are not cheap and neither are apartments, so there’s not a high chance you’ll see anyone O4 and below living on the island unless they have roommates or they’re a chief that’s been in the navy for a long time. They’d probably live downtown or off island if they wanted to live alone or TRY to buy a home. (Houses here sell for at least around a milly in most places)
There’s some bars on the island as well including one bar called “Danny’s” which is a well known Navy Seal bar because there’s a Seal Base also located on the island more toward the long strip that connects the island to Imperial Beach.
The Naval Academy is not where pilots are made
I’ve found a few fics where they talk about Bradley going to UVA and then the Naval Academy but the USNA is a college in itself. It’s not typically transfer in type of school because if you go that route you start from the bottom as a freshman.
But to be an aviator you do not need the academy. There’s two other routes to becoming an officer which is ROTC and OCS:
The way I suspect Rooster went is to go to a normal university that has an ROTC program and complete it which leads straight to commissioning right-after graduation.
OR graduate any school like normal and then apply to officer candidacy school (OCS) where if accepted you’ll do an officer version of basic training. Which to be fair if that’s the route he took I’d be pissed at Maverick too because that means completing school in 4 years plus whatever amount of time it takes to apply to OCS with the preference of aviator (which is super compact) and can take anywhere from about a year to multiple vs into the academy and good to go.
Once they complete one of the three and are qualified via testing to be an aviator they’re off to flight schools, of which there are many to come.
(Also you could make it to flight school and get dumped out because of maybe not hitting the mark, or even medical stuff that they missed/skipped before - then get transferred to a different type of officer job)
Gold Star kids - AKA Rooster
Gold star kids are those like Bradley who lost a parent due to death during their service, and they do not get to stay on base once their loved one passes. They’ll have a certain amount of time to find a home then move off to make space for another active duty family. BUT the surviving spouse if they’re civilian usually (I believe) retain their benefits for the rest of their life. Not the kids though they get kicked off healthcare at 21 unless they’re still in school enrolled full time and their parents are more than 50% financially taking care of them. It’s all kind of intense and very sad but it’s true.
Dependants are not all nice
NOTE HOW I SAID NOT ALL. There’s some fantastic people but it’s not all sunny and perfect. I’ve worked in the recreational, support, and retail aspect of military bases and the horror stories I could tell you about certain military dependents. Crazy, some of them are literally insane. But could be used for some interesting dramatic aspects of your stories. I’d put examples but I have too many to name.
Pilots don’t fix their planes
Yes they have to learn the ins and outs of their planes and they’re absolutely tech savvy as well as extremely smart. BUT you will not see a naval aviator working on a plane, they have enlisted sailors who work hard and go through a lot of training/school to do that and they deserve their roses. They’d probably kick their officers ass if they saw them taking a wrench or tool of any type to those planes. Pre flight inspections are different to maintenance. That reminds me…
ENLISTED SAILORS EXIST IN AVIATION
I feel sad that fics/stories leave them out in the workplace. They have really great bonds with pilots because pilots can’t fly without them and put all of their trust into them. The sailors and chiefs are the best in their fields and often are credited for being the ones who teach officers because it’s true - think like this:
An officer commissions to O1 (ensign) after earning a bachelors degree which is on average around 21/22. Depending on how they commissioned they may not have worked any college jobs (some have never worked a job at all) so this is their first job and they are in charge of people plus millions of dollars worth of equipment. That’s not including the 2-3 years it takes to pass flight schools.
Enlisted sailors can start service at 17. They’ve been in their jobs going to schools and mastering their trade for a hot minute. They’d often can be the same age of their officer (let’s say 23 for an aviator who went through flight schools) and have 6 years of service in their belts, they know the game.
The best leaders I’ve met in the military know how to be that leader while also learning from their sailors. That bond of trust both ways is crucial for success.
Some ships have WiFi
But it can be limited, it also can get turned off for any reason at any time if it means keeping the ship safe. So could they text and call/FaceTime? On a carrier for sure UNLESS they’re in need of turning it off for a while. Super great for sailors to stay connected honestly wish they’d had that when my dad was in.
Call signs often are not a cool brag
Usually it’s from a time you fucked up and now it’s stuck with you so everyone can have a laugh. You can’t change it and you can’t pick one yourself. That’s not to say that can’t be from cool moments but the ones I’ve met it’s been from funny moments with their squad.
I think the only way it could get changed is if it was really bad like one you couldn’t say in front of an admiral without getting in trouble. I think they usually change those to ‘redacted’ or try to make it an abbreviation so it’s not immediately obvious it’s a fucked up nick name. The ones from back in the day were super messed up. Or maybe you ranked up high enough to change it cause who’s going to tell a Captain what they can or can’t do.
ADDED FACT CHECKS:
It’s Naval Air Station (NAS) North Island NOT Navy Air Force Base/Station North Island/North Island Air Force Base/Air Force Naval Base
Two different branches completely. I do understand why people would put this and this is not me attacking people but I would very much suggest not combing the two because a naval aviator is capable of something Air Force pilots aren’t:
Landing a plane/helicopter on a ship in the middle of the ocean.
They train like crazy to have this skill and let me tell you landing on that thing is no easy feat. Naval Aviators (and Marines they get qualified in this too!) deserve that hype because the risk that takes comes from so many people in a plane and on deck to succeed in? INSANE. I’ve been in Tower (primary flight control or ‘pri-fly’ for short) and there’s so much that goes into this process including collaborating with the people driving the ship. I wasn’t even in an active combat zone so idk how this legends do it with people shooting at them.
All love Air Force Pilots, they could probably be trained to do it - however they aren’t soooo… FLY NAVY 😈

Oh man that was A LOT of info. If you’re reading this? How’d you make it this far? Also hope it helped in someway or another to spark some ideas. I’ve debated writing some kind of story haven’t gotten the courage up but YOU ALL ARE AND YOU ARE AMAZING AT IT!

7x03 analysis part 1 — Everything Air Ops
I promised helicopters, so now we get helicopters. I want to look into how Air Operations work in the 9-1-1 universe, in comparison to its real life counterpart in this first part. Then, I will try to figure out the location and intensity of "hurricane Ethel" during the clandestine operation in the second part. And finally, I will prove how risky it is to fly a helicopter into a storm and why Tommy deserves every bit of his Medal of Valor.
Location
Real!LAFD Air Ops operate (Station 114) out of Van Nuys Airport (VNY/KVNY). It's not only one the busiest general aviation airports in the world, it's also smack dab in between major green areas of the city of LA itself.
This location makes perfect sense in real life. Air Ops might get the occasional highway car wreck or urban structural fire calls, but most of their missions still consist of wildfire suppression and rural search and rescue. Being based at Van Nuys makes sure they can respond to emergency in a timely fashion.
in the 9-1-1 universe, the LAFD Air Ops are based at "Harbor Station", or Station 217. (Harbor and 217 are the same station, Chimney especially asked if Tommy was still at the 217 in 2x14 when requesting air support, unless the 911-verse LAFD has 2 different air operation units, which I highly doubt.) Obviously it has to be at an airport, because that's where the hangers and helipads are, and going by "harbor" I can only speculate that it's in the Harbor Region of LA.
The only non-military airport in the LA Harbor Region is Long Beach Airport (LGB/KLGB), but it's quite a busy commercial airport, probably not a good one to run emergency services from. There's also the Zamperini Field (TOA/KTOA) nearby in Torrance, although not exactly inside the Harbor Region, it's coastal and close enough to the 2 LA ports I guess? Feel free to create a whole new airport using your imagination though, as you know 9-1-1 is set in an alternate universe where geography and physics work differently.
Helicopters
The LAFD Air Ops have 5 medium (FIRE 1-5) and 2 light duty (FIRE 6/7) helicopters, you've heard Tommy in 7x04. Everything applies to the real world counterpart, but the medium type that real!Air Ops operate is AgustaWestland AW139, the Italian-made medium sized twin-engine helicopter with a 5-blade main rotor primed for emergency response and off-shore oil rig transportation.

It has auto-pilot, an anti-icing system for harsh weather and even auto-hover suitable for hoist rescue missions. In a passenger transport configuration, it can carry up to 15 passengers in a 3 row seating plan. In an SAR (search and rescue) configuration though, the middle row can be removed for gurney space. It's big and powerful enough to transport multiple patients, but at the same time, light and agile enough to get into difficult terrain.

The AW139 is designed to be flown by 2 pilots, flying solo is also possible, but only under VFR (Visual Flight Rules), with an additional certification, which LAFD pilots can and do. To fly it under IFR (Instrument Flight Rules), it always requires 2 pilots according to the FAA last time I checked.

The light helicopter type real!LAFD flies is the Bell 505 Jet Ranger X, a single engine twin-blade made in Canada. It's an relatively new airframe, set to replace the aging Bell 206, which the LAFD used to operate. It's quite a bit smaller than the AW139, it can only fit 1 pilot and 4 passengers.

While it's perfectly capable of carrying a Bambi bucket to assist with aerial firefighting missions, it's mainly used as a training aircraft for new pilots and HLCO (Helicopter Coordinator) when there is a major catastrophe that requires on-the-site air traffic coordination.
These are all brand new and sophisticated aircrafts that a mere TV channel can't get their hands on without a government budget. So for 911!LAFD Air Ops, ABC went to their usual helicopter service company for prop aircrafts.
Helinet Aviation provides all sorts of helicopter services from aerial journalism, medevac, delivery to regular chartering. All the 911!Air Ops scenes in 7x03 and 7x04 are naturally filmed in the Helinet hanger, for convenience's sake, at VNY, just a runway across from real!Air Ops.
911!Air Ops
Helinet hangar Street View
I believe I've identified all the helicopters shown in 7x03 and 7x04, but let's get the 2 in the background which probably do not belong to 911!Air Ops out of the way:
N72EH, a Sikorsky S76C++, still in its Boston MedFlight livery. Sold to Helinet in 2022, possible used as a medevac vehicle currently? Unlikely to have anything to do with 911!Air Ops, probably just happened to be in the background to make it seem like there were many helicopters.
The one Tommy flies Eddit to Vegas in is N67TV, an Eurocopter AS350B2 Écureuil (aka squirrel). No fire department would ever let employees take their expensive equipment out for a joy ride so it's likely that in universe, Tommy rented it from somewhere outside of the station. IRL though, according to this forum post, it's used as a backup helicopter for all its customer news stations, but also any TV or film production purposes outside of journalism.
Now, for the one seen in the hangar, therefore explicitly belonging to 911!LAFD:
N29HD, also an AS350B2, also a news helicopter. According to this reddit comment, it used to be shared between CBS and FOX, but now it seems to be configured as a dedicated aircraft for ABC7.
The one the who cares gang stole to rescue Bobby and Athena though has a fake registration number on it:
You just have to look up Helinet's fleet, and you will see this is obviously a DHL livery, and it's quite easy to find out that this is actually:
N211FN, an AS350B1 (so an even older variant than the previous two), operated on behalf of DHL for package delivery service.
Don't get me wrong, the AStar (how the AS350 is called in the US) is a versatile and reliable aircraft. It the 4th most produced rotorcraft in the world, someone even managed to land one on top of Mount Everest. But it's kind of small? It can seat only up to 5 passengers with 1 pilot, and there is hardly room left for any gear. There is also no space for stretcher, so anyone they rescue would have to sit upright. It's just not very realistic.
I have no idea what medium duty helicopters 911!Air Ops operate, we're unlikely to see them in the future. There is this Bell 205 in 4x12 Treasure Hunt, but it clearly says L.A County Rescue on the tail.
youtube
Pilots
Real!Air Ops pilots wear beige flight suits, it's the aeromedics who wear blue, and helitac crews wear orange. I'm not complaining too much though, Tommy looks good in blue. (I think the chief pilot wears dark blue, but I'm not sure.)
Helicopter pilots in general usually wear helmets, in case a particularly strong pocket of turbulence slams you against the body of the aircraft, or a bird decide to fly through the windshield into your face, but I get that it gets in the way of the camera, so I'm just gonna enjoy Tommy's beautiful face.
Real!Air Ops pilots work on a 24/48 shift schedule just like any platoon firefighters. Due to the danger of pilot fatigue on aviation safety, they do try to limit their continuous flight time to 6 hours before taking a prolong break.
There are 5 levels of pilots: pilot I (trainee), pilot II (probational), pilot III (full pilot), pilot IV (lead pilot) and pilot V (chief pilot). The chief pilot oversees the entire Air Ops and work on a 10 hour per day, 4 days a week schedule. The rest of the pilots are put into 3 shifts, each shift with a pilot IV, 2 pilot IIIs and 2 trainees/probies, together with 4 aeromedics. (Can't find the most updated version, the lastest one I can get my hands on is from 2022, so good enough?) Therefore Tommy's Bobby would not be a captain, it would be a lead pilot.
I've already explained in detail the timeline of Tommy's career as a firefighting pilot, but here is the short version of it: Once accepted into the LAFD pilot training program, he would have to train with the LAPD for 180 hours then back to the LAFD for 200 hours, that takes around 2 years, and by then he would be a probie. After that, he would have to slowly build up flight hours then train and certify for all types of missions on the medium duty helicopter, that would take another 2-3 years, and after that he would be promoted to a pilot III, which is probably the rank he holds now.
We can see from the form Hen submitted in 7x03 that she initially asked for Lucy as their pilot, as she's forgotten that Tommy also worked there. Fortunately Chimney called Tommy, as Lucy most likely would've still been a probie if not just a trainee.
Melton
I have no idea who he is.
I can sort of see his badge says "firefighter"? At real!Air Ops, everyone wears a flight suit as uniform, so that they can hop into a chopper in an emergency. I don't know what a dude in a regular uniform with the regular LAFD patch on his arm doing there.
Tommy's arm has the Air Ops helicopter patch on it.
Real!Station 114 though do have a crash unit staffed with regular firefighters, maybe Melton is with them? But then, why is he doing with Hen's helicopter requisition?

Swapping out the knife in favor of other weapons seems to be a ways off from my programming skills just yet, but I'm toying with some concepts for other weapons you can use against the evil hordes (all names pending):
Summon the Doss: a huge friendly statue flies through, destroying any enemies or obstacles in her way. (The statue in question is the Dame of Saint-Sernin, a Neolithic menhir or kurgan stelae of unknown significance because the French hadn't invented writing when it was carved around 3000BC)
Bell: ring it with your knife and it shoots in random directions
Eyeball Friend: this one's been with us since the earliest concept art, just your standard shmup assist shield
Knife Halo: standard video game invincibility powerup, just in the form of a spinning ring of knives
Friendly Spikeball (distinguished from other Spikeballs by its gold spikes and Zirc-teal body): poke it with the knife and it bounces away from you, hurting enemies and destroying obstacles
Good Soda Bottle: break it to release a splash of Anti-Enemy Juice (yes this does imply the existence of Evil Soda Bottle, a hazard that is harmless unless your knife or an enemy projectile breaks it, releasing a similar splash of pink Anti-Zirc Juice)
Kiwanocopter: seems to be a normal if stupid enemy until you stab its propeller off, then it falls and damages enemies underneath. Wait helicopters have rotors on top not on the side, this needs a new name
Cool S Storm: collect enough Cool S's and summon a storm of enemy-damaging Cool S's in random spots around the screen. BTW I checked and no the Cool S is not connected to clothing brands, Superman, or Nazis as various urban legends have tried to say; technically it is trademarked by a guy named Mark May but he says he just secured the trademark to prevent some big corporation from getting it first and then suing kids about it and that he's not planning on stopping anyone from using it. Guess we'll find out

Porsche 911 GT3 Weissach Package - Raw Engine Sound at Ricardo Tormo Circuit The latest 2025 Porsche 911 GT3 992.2 generation continues with Porsche’s 4.0-litre naturally aspirated flat-six engine, screaming to a 9,000 rpm redline and delivering 510 HP and 450 Nm of torque.
Despite tightening emissions regulations, Porsche preserves the GT3's raw, high-revving soul.
The Weissach Package intensifies the 911 GT3’s track focus by reducing weight by around 22 kg. It uses carbon fibre for the roof, rear wing side plates, mirrors, anti-roll bars, underbody panels, and parts of the cabin.
Optional forged magnesium wheels and a lithium-ion battery help lower the kerb weight to around 1,420 kg. A revised double-wishbone front suspension, adapted from the Porsche 911 GT3 RS, sharpens turn-in response and improves braking stability.
Available with either a 7-speed PDK dual-clutch gearbox or a 6-speed manual, the GT3 Weissach sprints from 0–100 km/h in 3.2 seconds (PDK) or 3.7 seconds (manual), with a top speed just under 315 km/h.
Inside, you’ll find carbon-fibre bucket seats, Race-Tex suede-like materials, a simplified Track Screen display, and the iconic ignition rotor switch. The Weissach interior feels track-focused and premium without unnecessary frills.

Uh oh! Another yap post!
Hello everyone! Since I don't have any cool art or videos to post at the moment, I bring forth a hot take post about The Freedom Fighters. I've been growing an appreciation for all of them as of recently, except for one... Purple Elephant in the room... Let me explain why I don't like Rotor Walrus very much. Side note before we begin, if you like this guy that's fine! This is just my opinion, and explaining why I don't include him in most of my projects. Please be respectful if you wanna comment your thoughts. ^^
One nitpick I have about him that I have before getting into actual issues I have with him as a character, is his design. And how it got worse overtime. I hate how buff they made him in later issues of the comic. Bro is a WALRUS, one of the blubbery big boy animals of the entire animal kingdom. If any character is to be plus sized, HE would be the one to be! And he used to be in older panels. I love little details about his chunky belly, freckles, and slight tufts of hair. His newer design, even when not in 3D, looks kinda bland to me.
Here comes the issues I have with him as a character I've only watched Sonic STAM one time, but even so, I can remember important moments that most of the characters did. Like Sally helping Sonic with the final fight, Bunnie getting an entire episode dedicated to her, and being a big sister to Tails, and Antoine being ANNOYING AS FUCK. But for Rotor, I forgot he was there 90% of the time. That includes him next to other characters like Tails or Nichole who had significantly smaller roles. I had to LOOK UP if he did anything important to the show, that's how forgettable he was in the show. His design is great, but his personality falls completely flat for me. The most I can say about him in the show, is that it's cute that he gets a little flustered around the girls. It shows off a shy side that I wish we saw more of. Although one thing I regrettably remember about him in the show, is that he's responsible for the WORST episode in the entire show! Yippee Rotor, you left one impact on me at least...
If you don't know the episode I'm talking about, it's that one where he builds the ugly robot on the second photo, and it sexually harasses Antoine. Man I hate him in this show too, but he didn't deserve that.
Now to give him some credit, he had some great character moments in Archie, including a really well done and cute design. As well as fighting and standing up for others like in the pictures shown above. But other than those two moments, I can't think of anything notable he really does. I guess that's the point of a character who stands by the sidelines and all, but all his moments are usually overshadowed by another character in the Archie Comics. I also think his character development isn't as strong as someone like Antoine, who I went from HATING, to actively loving when I saw him in later issues. And even though Sally's arcs are a bit all over the place, she still changes significantly Pre-Reboot. His personality really doesn't change from the cartoon Pre and Post Reboot, which sucks! I feel like Manic from Sonic Underground, was a more complex and interesting version of him. I do find Rotor's backstory in Archie to be absolutely carrying him from being the worst character there.
I think if they met, they'd be total besties though. >w<
Another pro I'll give him is that his Anti Counterpart is really cool. Being a mad scientist kinda, and doing anything to keep creating his inventions. And also, using Rotor's Beta Name as his full name is a neat touch. I think his design is really ugly though, and I haven't found an excuse to make him a model for TMOM because he's so unappealing to me. His concept gave me the idea for Blue Prism, and Adams as a character. So thank him for Adams' creation lol.
Overall, I'm not a huge fan of Rotor. Compared to the other Freedom Fighters, he often leaves my mind due to the lack of cool moments, character development, or personality traits that make me remember he's a part of the squad. He kind of falls into that "Genius Boy" trope, but does nothing to make him stand out from the others in that trope from any other show. He's so inoffensive, that he's not even notable enough for me to call him "White Bread" like I do with other character's I think are boring. Maybe I'll gain more fondness for him if I rewatch SATAM again? But I kinda doubt it. I don't hate this guy, but I don't love him either. And that makes him my least favorite Freedom Fighter.
Hey thanks for reading my yap session! If you guys have your own thoughts, be sure to tell me in the comments, or ask me more about it in my Ask Tab! What other characters should I give my thoughts on? Anyways, I'm gonna get back to video work now. ^w^

Bob (24/24)
This is written in the style of the series 24.
Events occur in real time.
Hour 24 of 24: 09:00 p.m. - 10:00 p.m.
09:03:32 p.m.
Aft deck of the yacht:
When you arrived at the helicopter, Tony and you were still laughing and cuddling. According to the plan, Gibbs should show up here any minute and then every second would count.
At that moment he came around the corner and suddenly his behavior changed from reserved to raging with anger.
“I knew it!” he yelled loudly, walked quickly towards the two of you, threw himself at Tony and knocked him to the ground with a well-aimed punch.
But DiNozzo recovered quickly and hit Gibbs in turn.
The men who were supposed to guard the helicopter initially just watched the fight.
The investigators continued to hit each other while you climbed fortunately undetected into the helicopter quickly, put on your colleague's helmet and then waited until the two of them had climbed in.
You sighed inwardly, because you had imagined the first test of this new development to be different.
However, immediately after takeoff you had to activate the newly developed and as yet untested whisper mode so as not to attract even more attention than you probably would have already.
At first the distraction didn’t seem to have the desired effect. But luckily the guards decided to intervene and end the fight.
But things didn't go as the guards had intended, because as soon as they reached the two fighters, DiNozzo and Gibbs attacked the men and knocked them unconscious after a short time.
The investigators then quickly climbed into the helicopter, you started the machine and immediately activated the whisper mode.
You all hoped that the machine's silent mode would give you enough time until take-off speed was reached.
And you were lucky, because the machine started up very quickly, but the other guests, startled by the sounds of the fight, were already running over.
There was great indignation when they saw that the rotor blades were moving faster and faster and the machine was ready to take off. They didn't like the fact that their new acquisition was literally about to disappear and so they ran towards it.
John, who had also rushed over, was horrified for a different reason. He couldn't believe it when he got to the landing platform as he saw who was getting into the plane.
"Those are NCIS agents!" he shouted loudly, blowing their cover.
Don saw the whole thing completely differently, because he was completely astonished when he saw the helicopter take off and could only mumble: "I knew I knew that Kitty. That's Y/N Y/L/N. I didn't know she could look so hot..."
Admiral Connelly, or Bob for that matter, was furious, because he was in danger of losing his money if the chopper took off. He had to prevent that with all his might.
He stormed onto the bridge and shouted at the crew on duty there:
"Arm your weapons, they mustn't escape!"
09:10:34 p.m.
In the helicopter:
The engine was now running at full speed and the rotor had reached the speed required for takeoff when Gibbs and Tony jumped into the helicopter.
“We have to get off the ship as quickly as possible, everything is about to blow up!!!” Gibbs yelled and you took off.
But as soon as you lost contact with the boat, you three saw machine guns and an anti-aircraft gun emerging from the deck of the yacht.
“Go, go, GO!!!” Tony shouted now too.
Under fire you climbed and climbed into the air. The helicopter had some secret new developments, but unfortunately it was not bulletproof, which is why you were hit several times.
Due to the range of the guns on the boat, however, it was difficult for you to escape without being shot down first. So you activated the on-board guns, armed the missiles, aimed at the yacht... and fired.
It was a direct hit and the boat was destroyed with a huge bang in a large explosion.
The large fireball and the pressure wave of the detonation hit the helicopter, which you were able to intercept quickly.
Relieved to have survived, you said: "Let's get home now," pulled the throttle lever and you flew away at top speed.
Fortunately, you didn’t encounter the FBI's F-18 Super Hornets on their way.
09:45:12 p.m.
Stillwater, Pennsylvania:
Since the helicopter was obviously not housed in a particularly secure location at the Quantico base, you flew to a completely inconspicuous location where there were more than enough opportunities to hide it until better accommodation was available.
In fact, you landed outside Gibbs' hometown of Stillwater and you put the machine in a disused mine there.
To be on the safe side, you activated stealth mode and called in NCIS internal guards.
After Gibbs, Tony and you had secured everything, you decided to rent a car in the nearby small town for the trip back to Washington, D.C.
You set off and walked silently next to each other for a while. Then Tony and you started talking about the past 24 hours.
A lot had really happened. And there were many developments that no one had expected.
In the middle of this conversation, Gibbs suddenly intervened and said: “That was a good job, Y/L/N. NCIS has a new job for you. Report to headquarters tomorrow morning at 08:00 a.m.”
You looked at him confused and replied: “Yes, sir.”
“Don’t call me ‘sir’,” he reprimanded you, grumbling.
You nodded. Then he turned to you again and grinned mischievously: “And as soon as we arrive in Washington, I’ll invite you to dinner so we can get to know each other better.”
You looked at him in amazement. What was he planning?
At that moment, DiNozzo spoke up enthusiastically: “Wonderful idea! I suggest we go to the new restaurant in…”
He didn’t get any further because he was rudely interrupted by Gibbs:
“You’re not invited, Tony. There are only two of us going.”
Poor Tony stopped and gaped in amazement. He looked like a fish.
Gibbs instead hooked your arm through his, walked with you towards his hometown and maybe he would introduce you to his father while he was there.

I was playing around with the idea of evil Queen Sally either banning the Internet from her kingdom or having Rotor or Nicole heavily censor it(blocking anti acorn/pro democracy sites). You see the internet allows people to exchange ideas/messages in a blink of an eye, and she can't have the peasants getting ideas or see anti-acorn receipts ...

AL-12, M4A1, and SPAS-12 reacting to their Pilot S/O who should be in the infirmary recovering from an injury suddenly pulling them out of a tight spot!
(GFL) AK-12, M4A1, and SPAS-12's S/O saving them
THIS IS FIREBRAND, WE'RE IN THE PIPE FIVE BY FIVE CENTRAL, THIS IS BIG SKY. STRIKE TEAM IS TOUCHING DOWN NOW. STANDING BY FOR YOUR ORDERS THIS IS PEQUOD, ARRIVING SHORTLY AT LZ
...Sorry, had to get all those references out of my system.
12 hears the unmistakable noise of Griffin's Black Hawk approaching her location.
Her glowing pink eyes glance over to the distance and indeed see extraction was coming in hotter than expected.
(AK-12) "Clear the LZ. Anti-Air threats are to be taken care of first."
The other members of DEFY comply with her orders and take down the enemies surrounding them with startling efficiency.
Their ride out of the area doesn't even get a chance to touch down before everyone quickly hops on and nail every single gunner attempting to shoot them down.
Finally escaping and getting out of the combat zone, 12 turns back on her emotional processors, her eyes closing and a smile returning once the mask goes back down onto her neck.
Seeing who the pilot was made her mood all the better.
(AK-12) "Well now. Not that we don't appreciate the lift, but you should be back in base."
S/O chuckled as the bandages on their arm slightly shifted.
(S/O) "Not without you girls. Figured I could do one last fly before I take a well earned break."
12 and RPK-16 chuckled at that, AN-94 simply nodded while AK-15 sighed.
(AK-15) "Taking influence off her, I see."
12 ignored her comment and gently caressed their injured arm.
(AK-12) "Thank you, S/O. I'll make sure we put in a good word for you.~"
She sits herself in the co-pilot seat to help out, the Black Hawk escaping into the moonlight.
(S/O's Voice) "M4! Coming in hot!"
(M4A1) "What?!"
Hearing the unmistakable noise of the Black Hawk's rotors, M4 turned to the rest of the AR team.
(M4A1) "CLEAR THE LZ!"
The four of them pin their enemies down with concentrated fire, making sure they couldn't aim at their extraction.
After getting on, they continued to open fire until they were out of immediate threat range.
Finally getting a breather, ST AR-15 and M16A1 closed the doors as M4 approached S/O, realizing their leg had makeshift bandages.
(M4A1) "What are you doing?! You could have been hurt worse than before!"
(S/O) "Thought I'd take a page out of your books and try a suicidal rescue. Commander gave me the green light, if it makes you feel any better."
M4 opened her mouth, but quickly found she had no retort. Admittedly, AR Team did have a tendency to do that.
She put a hand on their shoulder as she nodded in defeat.
(M4A1) "...Fair enough. Thank you, S/O."
S/O put a loving hand on hers before returning their attention back to the controls.
(SPAS-12) "THANK GOODNESS, RESCUE'S HERE!"
Using her shield to take the oncoming gunfire, she and the rest of her echelon backed further into cover as the Black Hawk came in, letting them all hop on.
Her shield acted as a makeshift barrier, as some of the other T-Dolls fired back, using SPAS as cover.
She had no issue, her shotgun would be ineffective at this range anyway.
Once her scanners indicated they were out of the combat zone, she breathed a sigh of relief.
(SPAS-12) "Whew, thanks for getting us ou-...S/O?!"
(S/O) "Hey, SPAS. Glad to see everyone's doin' well."
Her eyes immediately saw their head which had a bloodied bandage still on.
(SPAS-12) "You're not, the heck are you doing?!"
(S/O) "Heh, don't worry. I'm not gonna crash, autopilots helping pull the weight too."
(SPAS-12) "B-But you can't just!...You might have gotten-"
Before she could say anything else, S/O gave them a gentle smile before pulling out a bag of chips, enough for the echelon.
She pouted but took the chips and smiled back.
(SPAS-12) "We're having dinner after we get you back resting in the medbay. Got it?"
(S/O) "Deal."

I often see Mi-24s posted and being misidentified by the variant. So I put together a Hind variant guide for telling apart the major production models.
The first and most obvious is the Mi-24A Hind A/B. These were the earliest variant and had only a short production run in the early 1970s. Its easily identified by the "greenhouse" canopy design that was soon redesigned into the version found on all other Hinds.

Next is the Mi-24D Hind D. This one featured the redesigned cockpit mentioned above but shared a lot of the same technology of the Mi-24A. It entered service a year later in 1973.

The Mi-24D is often the most confused variant with the similar looking but upgraded Mi-24V Hind E that would enter service in 1976.

These two variants can be distinguished by the radio transmitter located under the nose on the portside. The earlier Mi-24D has a smaller and oblong shaped transmitter that is able to rotate left and right. The Mi-24V has a larger and more rounded transmitter that is fixed in place.

The change in design between these two transmitters is due to the change in armament between the two variants, specifically the guided anti tank missiles. These are usually mounted on the wingtips and are another way to tell at a glance which variant it is. The Mi-24A/D was equipped with the older AT-2 Swatter missile which sits mounted atop a guide rail and has four large stabilizing fins.

Mi-24V's were equipped with newer AT-6 and later AT-9 Spiral missiles which required a new guidance system, hence the redesign. These missiles are much narrower and contained in a tube prior to launch.

The Mi-24P Hind F is essentially a Mi-24V with the 12.7mm gun replaced with a twin barrel 30mm cannon mounted on the starboard fuselage.

The lack of a chin turret is fairly obvious to spot when identifying the Mi-24P. It also saw a reorganized front cockpit but that cant be seen from the exterior.
The final and most modernized Mi-35M is quite different from the earlier variants. It has new avionics and optics, a new 'X' tail rotor, shortened wings with only two pylons instead of the usual three, a new cannon mounted in the nose, and non-retractable landing gear.

Its nearly a new helicopter compared to the older V and P variants.
I'd also like to point out that there are Mi-25 and Mi-35 (not to be confused with the Mi-35M) designations thrown around too. The Mi-25 was essentially a Mi-24D that was produced with slightly different avionics and intended for export to allied countries outside the USSR. The Mi-35 is a Mi-24V intended for the same.
So as a quick summary. The Mi-24A has a greenhouse canopy. The Mi-24D has an oblong transmitter and AT-2 missiles. The Mi-24V has a round transmitter and AT-6/9 missiles. The Mi-24P has a 30mm side mounted cannon. And the Mi-35M has new sensors, short wings, X tail rotor, and fixed landing gear.

Metal Gear/TF2 Crossover Fic - cp_shadow_moses_event Chapter 2
Snake's finally made landfall, time to actually infiltrate this base proper. Liquid swats those bothersome flies he was talking about. Oh, also, BLU team is here and making it everyone's problem.
Ao3 Link!
More direct quoting of codec conversations, I'm so sorry! Good news is this is the last time that should be happening at length. This fic assumes you know the basic story of MGS, because I don't intend to directly quote every single thing that happens in the game, merely how it intersects with the premise, now that everything's established. :3 This fic is v silly but I hope everyone enjoys it! It's deffo a project that kinda got away from me lmao
---------
As the freight elevator crested the surface and came to a halt, Snake's eyes darted about, taking stock of the area. It was dark, the middle of the night, and the area was lit with spotlights at all angles in an attempt to increase visibility, but creating strange slivers of shadow in different directions. Wind sliced through the air like blades of ice, pasting the steady snowfall against vertical surfaces to create layers of opaque ice. He was at the heliport of the oceanside entrance to the facility, a flat, open area slotted into a mountain valley, bordered on both sides by steep rockface and the other by a cliff leading down into the icy waters of the Bering Sea. The main entrance to the base sat opposite the water, looming and imposing possibly more than the mountains it had been wedged into, a large warehouse door at its centre with a catwalk above for security patrols, turning and following the western rock wall. Along that side it overlooked a small storeroom. At the centre of it all was a raised helipad with a railing around it, a chopper sitting on it, inactive.
Scattered around the area were a few stacks of crates, supply shipments awaiting recieving, logging, and transport indoors. It seemed those operations had ceased when FOXHOUND had made their move and taken over, interrupting logistics for their terrorist plan.
It almost seemed too convenient for Snake's liking as he slipped from the elevator to behind one of those crates, crouching and calling in to the radio team.
"It's Snake. I'm in front of the disposal facility."
Warmth finally entered Campbell's voice for the first time since the operation had begun, the cold stiffness of his briefings and initial communications beginning to wear off as the old soldier settled back into his old role as Snake's radio contact. "Excellent, Snake. Age hasn't slowed you down one bit."
The voice of the operation's medical specialist, Dr. Naomi Hunter, cut in on the line. "How's that Sneaking Suit working out?"
"I'm nice and dry," Snake confirmed, a bit of sulkiness bleeding into his voice as he admitted, "but it's a little hard to move."
"Bear with it. It's designed to prevent hypothermia," Naomi replied, mirth in her voice. "This is Alaska, you know."
Snake held back an annoyed huff. "Take it easy, I'm grateful. If it weren't for your suit and your shot I would've turned into a popsicle out there."
"An anti-freezing peptide, Snake. All of the genome soldiers in this exercise are using it."
"I see. I'm relieved to hear that. Already tested, huh?" Casting his eyes to the cliff leading out to the ocean, he changed the subject. "By the way, how's the diversionary operation going?"
Cambell cut back in, "Two F-16s just took off from Galena and are headed your way. The terrorists' radar should have already picked them up."
The sudden roaring whine of an engine ripped through the small valley, resounding off the walls to be almost deafeningly loud. Snake peeked from behind the crate to see the helicopter's rotors begin to lurch to life, their slow spin quickly speeding and adding whooshing beats of air to the cacophony filling his ears. Its cockpit sat open, a white-clad soldier speaking with a man standing beside its nose, his long blond hair whipping and long brown coat billowing in the rotor-winds.
Snake recognized the old-fashioned outline of the machine immediately. "A Hind D? Colonel, what's a Russian gunship doing here?"
The blond man in the long coat turned and sauntered over to the Hind, hefting himself with little effort into the cockpit and closing its dome over him.
"I have no idea," Campbell replied, "but it looks like our little diversion got their attention. Now's your best chance to slip in unnoticed! There are only eighteen hours left until their deadline. You've got to hurry!"
The Hind lifted off from the helipad and into the air, keeping relatively low in the scheme of aircraft before tilting westward and leaving the valley, growing blizzard be damned.
A new voice cut into the frequency, a young woman. "Wow, he must be crazy to fly a Hind in this kind of weather."
"Who's that?"
"Oh, sorry, I haven't introduced you two yet. This is Mei Ling. She was assigned as our visual and data processing specialist."
As Snake was quickly briefed on Mei Ling's role on the operation, he darted across the heliport, taking stock of the area and possible points of ingress with his binoculars. Behind him, the ocean crashed and the winds whipped, and he didn't hear a single thing as the soft whoosh of a cloak activated.
"First, I want you to infiltrate the disposal facility and look for the DARPA chief," Campbell instructed. "Get whatever information you can from him about the terrorists. If he's alive, that is..."
Snake thought for a split second he detected the scent of tobacco, but considering he was in the middle of admitting to smuggling his cigarettes in with him, he figured it must be sense memory. After all, with the wind buffeting him as it was, there was no way he could catch the scent of a cigarette. Not unless someone was smoking literally right next to him, upwind.
"I'll let you decide on the best COA. I'm counting on you, Snake," Campbell signed off. Snake tried not to wonder why it sounded less like an order and more like a plea. Something felt off about this op, even considering the nature of it all to begin with.
At this point, it would be more surprising if something weren't off about an op that he was involved in. He filed that pessimism aside and locked himself in. He had work to do.
It took little effort to stay out of sight lines, the increasing snowfall and placement of the spotlights helping him stick to the awkward slices of shadow as he skirted walls to stay out of the line of sight of the small smattering of security cameras that dotted the area. Upon mounting the catwalk, he spied a ventilation duct and made for it, tucking himself in as Campbell rung in his ear to inform him that the Hind D had shot down both F-16s that acted as his cover diversion.
"We got a message from Liquid. He said if we try something like that again, he'll launch the nuke! Snake, hurry up and get in there! That Hind will be coming back soon!"
*
"Did you catch all of that?"
"Sure did. The signal tapper worked like a charm. I'm impressed you got it on the fella."
"Mon ami, you truly think so little of me?"
"Spy, that's Solid Snake. I think that highly o' him is the long 'n short of it."
A soft scoff puffed over the radio as Spy held back a full laugh. "Regardless, this is our opportunity to move as well. Taking the heliport will be dramatically more difficult if we're here when that Hind returns."
"Sure 'nough. We still clear in the air yet, Scout?"
"Don't see 'nothin'," came Scout's voice over the radio, the wind whipping past his headset microphone garbling the hell out of his words. "I'm in place on the western ridge, don't see shit; not even with the binocs."
"The Hind's lights'll be a dead giveaway, so keep your eyes open, son. Alright, fellas, let's get this party started! BLU ain't payin' us to not take this point!"
Spy stole into a corner and kept still, watching with amusement as the show began. Twin trails of smoke streaked into the air, the wind stealing them away as quickly as they appeared as two points of blue—barely visible in the night sky against the backdrop of ocean and ice—soared up and over the edge of the cliff.
Demoman and Soldier's boots clomped loudly onto the concrete of the heliport as they cleared the railing that acted as the only safety measure between it and the edge of the cliff. In the moment before any of the genome soldiers noticed them, a grin found its way across Demoman's face. "Aye, love the company camouflage. Get 'em, lad."
Soldier let out a full-throated scream and charged, rockets soaring and bullets flying in reply amid the panicked yelling of men caught deeply unawares by heavy ordinance.
Demoman calmly ducked behind a crate, set up a sticky trap on either of its sides, and tossed down the teleporter Engineer had given him, which began to slowly auto-build as it hit the ground. "Teleporter goin' up," he reported.
"Weird as hell hearin' you say that," Scout quipped.
"Aye, fair enough. What's the ETA, Engie?"
"Twenty-one seconds from the word, 'go'," Engineer replied. "Entrance already built 'n ready."
"So see ye lot in about..."
"Ten," Engineer confirmed.
"Grand. "We'll get this point taken, then." With that, Demoman switched to his grenade launcher and strafed out of cover, more explosions rocking the entrance as screams of surprise and agony rang out into the night air.
Spy chuckled softly and lit a cigarette, figuring he may as well get a few drags in while someone else had all the attention. If the F-16s were somehow not enough of a diversion for the legendary soldier currently shimmying his way through the vents, Builder's League United would do nicely in their stead.
