Ich wollte diesen Montag ein Office Tag einlegen. Also, hab ich eigentlich auch. Nicht nur, weil ehh gerade wahnsinnig viel "Papierkram" anfällt. Auch weil ich mir dachte, gar nicht so verkehrt, die Schürfwunden am Fuß mal abheilen zu lassen und auch etwas zu verschnaufen. Dann hat sich aber C. bei mir gemeldet, dass er erst zum Feld geht (wo ich auch noch nicht skaten war) und Abends am MBU/Weichselplatz skaten wird. C. und ich sind schon in Bremen zusammengefahren. Und ich hatte definitiv Bock. Er schrieb mir dann gestern, Platz ist leer und dass ich vorbeikommen kann. Habe ich gemacht. Platz war aber nicht leer, haha. Aber vielleicht zum üblichen Verkehr dort. Ca. 20 Leute sind da rumgefahren und das macht sich auf so einer kleinen Fläche schon bemerkbar.

Auch wenn es hier und dem nächsten Foto nicht so aussieht.

Ich habe echt versucht, einen Moment abzupassen, wo möglichst wenig Gesichter im Bild sind. Möchte ja nicht jede*r sich auf ein Blog wiedersehen. Ich glaube so gehts aber. Ich versuche demnächst dort noch einmal hinzufahren, auch um die einzelnen Elemente etwas zu dokumentieren. Obwohl man sich auch hier einen ersten Eindruck machen kann. Wieso viele den Platz mit MBU abkürzen, habe ich gerade nicht herausbekommen. Aber mittlerweile hat der Park einen Namen: Anthony Huber Skatepark. Anthony Huber war ein amerikanischer Skateboarder, der 2020 am Rande einer Demonstration versucht hat, einen rechtsradikalen Attentäter daran zu hindern, weitere Demonstrationsteilnehmer*innen zu töten und der dabei selbst ums Leben kam. Hier gibts ein Dokument zur Initiative der Umbenennung des Platzes. Ich selbst habe da gestern nur ein paar Runden gedreht und versucht, niemanden in die Quere zu kommen. Ich hätte mich natürlich auch in die Reihen einordnen können, die sich vor einzelnen Rampen etc. gebildet haben.... Ging aber auch so. Niveau ist ohnehin sehr unterschiedlich gewesen. Obwohl die Mehrheit dort sicherlich nicht so unsicher unterwegs war, wie ich. Weiß nicht, ob es eine Besonderheit des Platzes oder der Uhrzeit war, aber es gab auch eine lose Verbindung von mehrere Frauen, die dort gefahren sind. Sicherlich fällt heut zutage kein Mann mehr von den Wolken auf den Skateplatz, wenn da Frauen auftauchen. Aber Geschlechterparität ist bei weitem noch nicht erreicht. An der Hasenheide war das nur der Fall, wenn da so Skateschulen aufgetaucht sind. Nach gut zwei Stunden bin ich wieder nach Hause, wo ich noch etwas weitergearbeitet habe. Mit dem Erfolg, dass ich diesen Monat vermutlich noch nach Rostock fahren werde, um dort zu skaten. Ich versuche ja jeden Monat einmal zu verreisen, um mir andere Skateszenen in Deutschland anzuschauen. Im Mai, wenn alles klappt, gehts also nach Rostock.

Or the women who have died after being refused appropriate medical care because of the rapist and his buddies that Trump appointed decided with some weird pastor in the 1600 said was more important than the lives of actual living, breathing, human beings. Or the school children who would not have been shot to death if we had actual gun control laws in this country, a thing that would have been possible to achieve if Trump had lost in 2016.

Yeah, sure, the majority of us in the United States will probably survive. That's how statistics work. And if that's what somebody needs to hear in order to move forward, then I guess saying such things has a purpose. But it's looking pretty shitty for anybody living in Ukraine and to me, it comes across as disrespectful to the people whose lives have been lost in no small part thanks to what goes down in US elections.

I needed somebody today who would say not only that this is not okay, but this is *really* not okay.

Thank you for this. I can't help but write what I feel, even if some of it hasn't been the most optimistic message to send. There is a reality that we need to come to terms with in order to find some way forward. I'm pissed off and I'm disgusted with this country, so I'm going to keep doing what I've been doing because it is therapeutic for me right now and I'm too old to go around punching and kicking people.

I do want to say that I'm also cognizant of the fact that some people just need some time to allow this reality to settle. I certainly don't want to add to the stress or darkness that some of us are feeling right now. There is no denying that this is fucking terrible, but we will regroup and find a way through it. It won't be easy and we're going to have to fight, but I don't want anybody to think that there is genuinely no hope. There's always something that we can do, even if it seems bleak.

If I'm writing something or somebody else is saying something that you're not ready to hear, it's okay to do what you need to do to remain healthy. These posts are going to be here whenever you might feel like reading them. You can and should step away from this if you just need a fucking break. It doesn't mean you're any less ready or willing to fight this battle than anybody else. Even if Trump and the rotten MAGA cult takes control of every lever of power, you can gain a personal victory by not allowing them to completely crush your faith in the future. You can be depressed and despair, but do not give up. Do not give them that power over you. We will find a way. We will get through this. We will figure out what it is that we need to do and who we need to back and how we need to attack, but taking care of your personal health and well-being is more immediately important than the bigger political battle or the next step in the resistance. Take care of yourselves first and we'll still be here and ready to eventually harness this anger and frustration and fucking disgust to defeat the MAGA movement and Trump's Christian nationalist personality cult.

The main thing, though, is that if you're really having a tough time in the immediate future, step away, take some time, go for a walk, read something that has absolutely nothing to do with Donald Trump or American politics (if you need suggestions, I always have book recommendations!), and regroup. Again, we'll get through this, and as goofy and weird and ridiculous as Tumblr can be at times, there's always a community of people on this site willing to listen and help each other when we're struggling. So, if you are having trouble getting to tomorrow, reach out because there are scores of people here who will help get there with you.

Tag 26

Gestern zu heute ist was Interessantes passiert. Im Halbschlaf, im Übergang zum Traum, hat mein Körper so eine Skateboardbewegung gemacht, also ein push oder stop. Genau kann ich das nicht erinnern. Aber ich musste kurz lachen, weil die Arbeit und das ist ja das Skaten sozusagen für mich, offensichtlich ins (Un-)Bewusstsein eingesickert ist. Ich hatte das aber auch schon mal beim Krav Maga, da habe ich im Schlaf mit der Faust durch die Luft gegen die Wand geschlagen. Also schon recht ordentlich. Hand blieb trotzdem heil. Die Wand auch. Dem Traum von gestern ging aber noch ein anderer Moment voraus. Beim Verfassen des gestrigen "Berichts" ist mir zum ersten Mal aufgefallen, dass 25 Tage gar nicht so viel sind und meine Fortschritte dafür vielleicht gar nicht so gering sind. Also ich hab mir noch nichts gebrochen. Das ist doch schon was. Heute Morgen dafür entschieden, noch einmal zum Anthony Huber Skatepark zu fahren. Und ich habe es auch nicht bereut.

Drei Leute waren schon dort, die sich solide auf dem Board halten konnten. Alle waren scheinbar auch ganz gut gelaunt. Mehr als sechs Leute gleichzeitig waren während meiner Anwesenheit aber nicht dort und so blieb doch recht viel Platz für alle. Kurz nach 12 Uhr war ich dann sogar alleine auf dem Platz. Weiß gar nicht, ob das vorher schonmal passiert ist.

Ich habe heute mal mein Programm vom Vortag versucht weiter zu verfolgen. Hier mit dem Pfeil mal drauf hingewiesen, über welche Kante ich heute mit der Vorderachse rüber bin und ab und anschließend auch das Rückrollen zu stehen. Also die Steigerung und Kante gestern war doch deutlich niedriger. Da war ich also nicht ganz unzufrieden.

Vorher habe ich aber eine Stunde im Nichtschwimmerbecken versucht, Goofy zu fahren. Mit sehr überschaubaren Erfolg. Ich versuche mich da durchzubeißen. Aber bitter ist der Bissen schon. Mal schauen, wo es morgen hingeht.

BookGoals 2023:  Book Two

I finished book two of the Lady Darby series even though it had more pages to read than the first book.  I had to go back to make sure it didn’t have less pages, but it did not.  

Mortal Arts, takes place a few months after the first book concludes.   Adding more insight to Kiera Darby’s interactions with close friends.  We delve more into her short time before her marriage to Sir Anthony & her artistic background.

This mystery allows her to rejoin with Sebastion Gage on the disappearance of a young girl in the nearest village.  But also having Kiera defend a close friend she thought long gone.   

I feel this story is a successful sequel to the first book and a good bridge between book one and three in the series.  The author explores medical practices of mind.  Especially for this time period for the Napoleonic wars are heavily mentioned throughout the book and the stigma to those who returned from it. 

This one was a little easier to figure from some of the clues laid out in the first few chapters.  Again, this was much shorter and really to be a bridge between the first two books.   Thus, I was ahead of our main detectives before they reached the conclusion.  Which was good for it allowed me to enjoy other aspects of the world building Huber is laying out for us.

It says #384, but the whole story is #370.  I’m not counting the historical notes (which are very interesting to read) & the preview for the next book.  As a preference I don’t read the teaser for I like to go in fresh.  

Book 2 of 52 is complete for 2023.

Kyle Rittenhouse takes on new role at Texas Gun Rights

Texas Gun Rights has announced Kyle Rittenhouse as the organization’s outreach director.

The gun advocacy group disclosed the new hire on Tuesday.

“Joining Texas Gun Rights is an awesome opportunity to continue advocating for our constitutional freedoms,” Rittenhouse said in a statement.

“I am excited to work with TXGR to mobilize Texans in support of their right to keep and bear arms. Together, we can ensure that our voices are heard and our rights are protected in Austin and D.C.”

Rittenhouse, who found himself in the national spotlight following the shooting death of two men in 2020, ended up being acquitted of all charges in 2021.

The deadly incident sparked debates across America about racial injustice protests and gun rights.

Rittenhouse, 17 at the time, attended a Black Lives Matter rally in Kenosha, Wisconsin, armed with an AR-15-style rifle.

That night, people gathered in the streets of Kenosha to protest the shooting of 29-year-old Jacob Blake who was left paralyzed by an encounter with a white officer.

But, things took a turn when Rittenhouse shot and killed Joseph Rosenbaum and Anthony Huber and injured Gaige Grosskreutz — a situation the then-teen described as self-defense.

“Kyle’s unwavering dedication to the Second Amendment and his firsthand experience with the legal and cultural battles surrounding gun rights make him an invaluable addition to our team,” said Chris McNutt, president of Texas Gun Rights, in the news release announcing Rittenhouse's role as outreach director.

Since his acquittal, Rittenhouse has traveled nationwide speaking about topics such as Second Amendment rights and censorship.

Last year, he launched an anti-gun control nonprofit called the Rittenhouse Foundation in Texas.

According to the Secretary of State’s filing, the organization's purpose centers on protecting “human and civil rights secured by law, including an individual’s inalienable right to bear arms” and ensuring “the Second Amendment is preserved through education and legal assistance.”

“His unique perspective and uncompromising energy will undoubtedly revolutionize our outreach and advocacy efforts," said McNutt. "With Kyle on board, we are not just defending gun rights — we are leading a bold and unstoppable charge to ensure every Texan's right to keep and bear arms is fiercely protected."

This seemingly innocuous question blew up over the weekend when Toronto Blue Jays pitcher Anthony Bass tweeted about a United flight attendant who allegedly forced his pregnant wife to clean up after their toddler. "The flight attendant @united just made my 22 week pregnant wife traveling with a 5 year old and 2 year old get on her hands and knees to pick up the popcorn mess by my youngest daughter," Bass wrote, tagging the airline in a tweet that included a photo of popcorn scattered across the floor with the two kids in their seats. "Are you kidding me?!?!" What started as a disgruntled customer venting online became something worthy of Washington Post coverage, which it dubbed "Popcorngate." With more than 75 million views on Twitter, the majority of those who responded to the tweet sided with the flight attendant. "Just because you're rich doesn't mean everyone is your servant," comedian Mike Drucker replied. "I hope this helps." Another wrote, "Commercial airlines are not your children's playground. Pick it up and take responsibility for your kids." His wife, Sydney Rae Bass, has appeared on reality TV and amassed over one million Instagram followers. Her sister, country singer Jessie James Decker, posted more details on her Instagram Story, which has since expired. "Blaire accidentally spilled some popcorn in the aisle and the flight attendant came up to Sydney with a trash bag and a wet wipe, telling her the captain wants Syd to clean up every drop," she wrote. "My poor sister is on her hands and knees, crying in the aisle, completely humiliated and exhausted, with her children while everyone else watched." Even Chrissy Teigen, who is fairly familiar with receiving criticism about her parenting on Twitter, sent her condolences in an act of solidarity. "Oh man this is exactly exactly the kind of tweet twitterers love. god speed, friend," she wrote. Other parents familiar with the wrath of parenting Twitter replied to Teigen. "Just never tweet about anything you, your children, other passengers, or the crew do on an airplane," wrote Lucy Huber, McSweeney's editor. "It's a lawless, terrible place and everyone in every situation is wrong. We just shouldn't, as people, be in the sky."
