Also, whoever was like, "Man, fuck Luis and the crime bros. They are completely optional side jokes that have nothing to do with what makes Ant-Man movies great, and nobody will miss them if we drop them from the brand!" That person?
That person needs to be fired. Then hired back on again just so they can be fired again. That person did not understand the wit and charm that brings people to these movies.

While on our way to see Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 3 This week we did do some pick-ups starting with Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania on 4K and there was only a few left! I do have to say I am a lil disappointed that was was no Slip case for it but anyway we then also picked up Max Fleischer's Superman on regular Blu-ray! I enjoyed Quantumania I thought it was pretty good and I was waiting for the Superman thing I have it on DVD but was thinking of replace that with this

ant-man & the wasp: quantumania
i’ll be honest, there are only 2 things keeping me from completely hating this movie:
1. scott and agent woo finally going on their dinner date (only to have it paid for by the #1 ghost hunter in the world ryan bergara)
B. jonathan majors’ performance as kang (though his career has pretty much been torpedoed at this point)
otherwise, it’s kind of disappointing, especially cuz i enjoyed the other ant-man movies
lip service is made yet again to the aftermath of the snap/blip without it having any actual effect on the world or plot (hey remember the sokovia accords? those haven’t had any major changes on the world either!)
the quantum realm is very muted and dark. most of the cool visuals that should’ve been bright or standout more are just bland. that’s what happens when you make your VFX teams crunch under tight deadlines without proper compensation and frankly we need to speak up more about it. fuck disney/marvel for this
as previously stated, kang was the best part of this. jonathan majors could’ve been the next tom hiddleston as far as i’m concerned, a popular villian actor that nails the character so well he’d have staying power. unfortunately, with the recent events and allegations of domestic violence, it seems highly unlikely he’ll be returning to the role.
one of the best parts of the other ant-man movies is that scott is trying his best to be a good dad despite his circumstances and has a good, healthy co-parenting relationship with his ex and her new husband. judy greer and bobby cannavale do not make an appearance at all in this film, and the idea of scott being a bad dad for even a second is less than appealing to me.
evangeline lily is an anti-vax plague rat licker and i can’t look at her the same way again. super goddamn disappointing to be sure
michelle pfeiffer and michael douglas continue to be a delight
i miss the 3 wombats
i say this punintentionally and emphatically: ant-man works better on a smaller scale when the problems are contained to his life and not as a set-up for larger shit down the line in the mcu

Ant-Man and the Wasp Quantumania (2023)
When the Pym family are drawn into the quantum realm they must steal a dangerous artefact for a villain or lose each other and possibly endager the world.
This one was vastly different from the previous Ant-Man films, mainly because it was all set in a different kind of dimension. There were still fun connections to the comics and references to the previous installments, including the overall MCU. It was good that Cassie finally got some development and back story.
Being in another kind of universe meant that there was little connection to reality to be made and the criminal team from the previous two films weren’t even mentioned, although the actors were included as voices for new characters. In many ways it was like the third Thor film in that we’re thrown into an alien world with a corrupt leader and a revolt has to be organised.
Although Modok is a completely ridiculous character, they somehow brought him into it in a way that kind of made sense with the story. The little gag about ants reaching an advanced civilisation because they’re socialist was amusing and it was cool that the original Ant-Man got some practical input.
There could have been a lot more development and explanation for the lore of the quantum realm civilisations since in previous films we’ve seen entire layers of it. Some of the newer actors introduced had more charisma and comedy than the regular cast so they could have carried more of the narrative and developed some more.
4/10 -It’s below average, but only just!-
-In the post-credit sequence there are many Kangs, one is dressed like Doctor Doom. In the comics Kang was a future version of Doom.
-It’s claimed that Cassie’s theme is close to Ant-Man’s theme backwards.
-Some of the looks were closer to the comics including Scott’s chest patter for the suit and Hope’s haircut.

The Blue-Ray Project: Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania
Not that anyone is following along, but my wife and I are watching all of our movies in alphabetical order, and if you wish to see our progress/read my thoughts on them, the master list is here.
I knew nothing about this movie, and I'll be honest, I only sort of paid attention so I probably missed some details. I was pleasantly surprised that it was less tied into the other Marvel movies than I'd feared since I'm very much not caught up on the vast expanse, and I honestly could have just watched it without having seen Loki and Kang would probably have had about the same effect.
I did enjoy the visuals of the quantum realm a lot because I love alien worlds and civilizations and it was really pretty, but I was also a bit disappointed that they largely left the potential weirdness/abstractness of the Quantum Realm behind for "there's a whole tiny world in here." Like... why did gravity still work the same? Why are there entire humanoid species living in the Quantum Realm? How do the suits still enlarge and get tiny when the Quantum Realm is supposedly the tiniest? As a lifelong scifi fan, I guess I was just hoping it would lean into the bizarreness even though it's a Marvel movie and they never would have let it happen. I was able to accept the premise and move on but it bugged me.
I deeply disliked the entire visual of MODOK/Darren and avoided watching it as much as possible; I really hope that was pulled from the comics because otherwise there's no excuse for that stupid of a design.
And I firmly believe Cassie had her queer awakening when she watched Jentorra drop someone with a single kick to the head, and I wish her luck figuring that out while surrounded by super powerful badass women.

Villain Breakdown: Exile Kang
I'm almost tempted not to even do one on this guy because, like I said earlier, they just did He Who Remains again. He's not just a variant of the same character, he's literally got the same plot. My variants are the real threat and only I can stop them so you should let me win or else all of them will come for you.
Only now he gets fight scenes. I guess it's pretty cool that he gets fight scenes. If all you want is to see Kang shoot a laser from his palm then this movie delivers that.
But overall, this villain left me feeling nothing. When he wasn't cheating off the answers on Loki's exam paper, he was just doing generic Bad Guy shit with little rhyme or reason to it. He was just a villain. A one-dimensional evil dude here to do evil things.
This isn't the only time Marvel's turned in a shallow villain with little more to him beyond being wicked. But usually, they do that because there's a lot of interesting and compelling things happening in the story around it. Ronan's hardly a compelling character, but he serves his role in a film that's about the Guardians establishing themselves as characters and coming together as a cohesive unit.
The only thing this movie has going for it is its villain. That's all it does: Introduce Kang to a film-going audience that didn't see Loki.
And its villain sucks.

Marvel's Black Adam. a sci-fi B-movie given millions of dollars to recognize its vision, and be weird about it. a knockoff Guardians movie that is still a blast. yeah, some of the VFX are dodgy but honestly, if you are invested in these characters and you like having fun, this is just a great time at the movies. i had a fucking blast. second best Ant-Man movie. Jeff Loveness just gets me and how i get Ant-Man, and he truly understands that MCU Ant-Man is a better Spider-Man than MCU Spider-Man. i genuinely think some of you are either deeply uncharitable or just outright fucking lying if you're saying this is one of the worst things ever. maybe you guys just don't like the Ant-Man movies and silly things. some things are not for you, that's okay. it's a little bizarre in conception for these characters and their genres, but it's kinda a great cap off for the trilogy.

If Douglas wants out, then killing him would've been a perfect way to make Kang an actual threat.
I know they are not using Kang going forward but the movie would have been better with, like, stakes.
