SHACK HOUSE: ANT-MAN & THE WASP - QUANTUMANIA (REVIEW)
The third installment of the Ant-Man franchise is first film to kick off Phase Five of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Though the films have maintained a somewhat lighthearted humorous tone since their inception, the timing of their releases has always been on-point. Its placement is an improvement over the choice film which started Phase Four two years ago, Black Widow, which I opined suffered…

I just need a @marvelstudios flick with Michelle Pfeiffer every day, month and year for infinity and beyond! #AntManAndTheWaspQuantumania
When you see Paul Rudd gliding down the street like the opening of an 80’s sitcom, you’re think this is gonna be hilarious, adventurous fun.  What you are not ready for is the real badass presence of Jonathan Majors (Kang) and Michelle Pfeiffer (Janet) going toe to toe and keeping audiences on their toes and salivating for more. Book Review: 'Look Out For The Little Guy' by Scott Lang
If there’s one thing you should know about me, it is that I am one of the biggest Ant-Man fans around!* I absolutely adore all of his films and appearances and Scott Lang’s everyman approach to the Marvel Cinematic Universe has always been a big appeal to his character for me. (along with being played by the loveable Paul Rudd). Naturally, I was very excited to see a new book called Look Out for…

Media Update 6/8/23
Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves (2023) I have been enamored with the game Dungeons and Dragons for a long time but nobody has really nailed the experience yet. This promised to be different. A group of thieves must unite with freedom fighters to try and make things right in Neverwinter. The movie draws on the rich worldbuilding already done by the writers of the Forgotten Realms but…

Ant-Man And The Wasp: Quantumania
Ant- Man and The Wasp Quantumania gives Marvel suckers a big little look at the coming investiture of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which is only about a month down. It’s not an Ant- Man caravan like any we ’ve seen ahead, being short on jokes and long on angst, but let’s dig into those details before Paul Rudd and Evangeline Lilly return for the third and presumably final Ant- Man movie in February. snare your magnifying glass. After spending five Blipped times down, a vital knob of his teenage son’s life, it’s no surprise that Scott Lang is willing to trust someone as obviously evil as Kang to get further time. But considering he’s bringing his whole family to the Quantum Realm, it’s also possible that individuality happens in the movie that could beget Scott to be willing to turn back time no matter what the cost.
THE QUANTUM REALM IS A LONG WAY FROM HOME The Quantum Realm gets a little bigger in every Ant- Man movie, going from a kind of scary purgatory in the first, to an livable land in the alternate, and eventually a full-bloated macrocosm full of high- tech metropolises in the third. Of course, the only problem with this macrocosm is that Kang the Conqueror appears to control it.
MODOK While D23 cult saw him back in September, this is the first time the rest of us have gotten a look at MODOK, evil genius, grotesque laboratory trial, and among the stylish cherished Marvel supervillains( for being so awful). In Quantumania, he appears to be played by Corey Stoll, who portrayed the unlawful Yellowjacket in 2015’s Ant- Man, where he was eventually dispatched by being forced to shrink uncontrollably and presumably into the Quantum Realm.
MODOK first appeared in 1967’s Tales of suspension# 94, created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby. The Mental Organism Designed Only for Killing took over the frenetic scientist association that created him. Despite his authentically awful visual deal, he’s one of Marvel Comics ’ foremost joke villains, as explored in Hulu’s recent MODOK amped series.
Is Ant- Man Dying? Ant- Man and the Wasp Quantumania broken helmetImage via Marvel The new trailer reveals a lot of Ant- Man and the Wasp Quantumania. It explains Scott’s provocation, reveals Kang will betray Ant- Man once the idol helped him, and that this disloyalty will put the two into a colliding course. The new caravan also shows how Kang will wipe the bottom with Scott, potentially killing the Avenger. One specific scene tells us that Scott isn't playing to win in the threequel. In fact, it seems like Scott understands his limitations and will pour all his powers into icing they both lose. As much as it’s sad to admit, that sounds a lot like another burial in the MCU. And with Cassie getting the heroine elevation for the threequel, that would be an emotional way to pass the cane to a new generation.
Ant- Man and the Wasp Quantumania premieres in theaters on February 17.

The Cavalcade of Comic Films Continues
The Cavalcade of Comic Films Continues
Tumblr media
With three huge comic book movies (Black Panther, The Avengers: Infinity War, and Deadpool 2) and one not-so-big (I Kill Giants) having already been released, one might think the onslaught of film adaptations of comic properties was over for the year. You would be wrong. The movie-going public has obviously shown that they love films based on comic books/graphic novels. Don’t believe me? Check…

MarvelWatch
Extra I was about to release a MarvelWatch with some interesting things that happened but then Marvel released the following video and everything else flew out the window. We gotta talk about this: If you’re a Marvel fan you cannot say this didn’t give you chills. I mean, it starts with Stan Lee doing the voice-over and it ends with title reveals for both the second installments of Black…

Movie Review: Ant-Man and the Wasp
While Ant-Man and the Wasp is the light-hearted palate cleanser the MCU needed after Infinity War, it doesn't quite measure up to other recent superhero films. #AntManAndtheWasp
This is the palate cleanser we needed after the heaviness of Avengers: Infinity War, and like the first Ant-Man, guaranteed to leave you smiling ear to ear. However, as a film, and grading on the curve of what we expect from recent MCU movies, it falls a bit short of the recent genius of Black Panther or Thor: Ragnarok.
But is that really fair? Do we judge the sorbet, pickled ginger, or simple…

Ant-Man & The Wasp: Quantumania - Το πρώτο trailer
Ant-Man & The Wasp: Quantumania – Το πρώτο trailer

Hawkeye season 1 thoughts
Finished Hawkeye finally and I have to say it has really surprised me. Of the 4 Disney+ MCU shows, this was easily my least hyped. Not because I don't like Hawkeye but because it just didn't seem to be a show which would have the sort of scale or influence that the other shows do. Loki deal with time variants and time travel, WandaVision dealt with advanced magic and warping of reality, and even TFATWS dealt with the changes in the world post the blip. Hawkeye was lowkey in every sense of the world, with the entire story being set in New York over a period of a few days. In the end, that ends up being to the show's advantage in the same way Ant-Man and Ant-Man & The Wasp ended up being fun small scale adventures. I ended up enjoying Hawkeye quite a lot.
The first couple of episodes are setup. Its definitely a bit too slow to get going, especially given the season is only 6 episodes long. The first episode is mainly Kate Bishop setup and the status quo of Clint's life at the moment. The second episode gets a bit more into Clint trying to clear all the issues but the show really picks up from episode 3 onwards. The introduction of Echo in episode 3, followed by the re-introduction of Yelena at the end of episode 4 really amped things up but episode 3 has a fantastic car chase sequence which showcases the various Arrows that Clint has at its disposal. That is one of the most fun scenes of the movie. Episode 4 is a bit of a step back to breathe as it gets into some personal conversations between Clint and Kate, and Clint teaching Kate some tricks. These episodes also have some enjoyable use of LARPers as they become very integral backup to Clint and Kate, to the point of providing them their final uniforms. The 5th episode ups the anti with the cliffhanger showing the re-introduction of Vincent D'Onofrio as Kingpin. I am not yet certain if this is a rebooted Kingpin or the one from Daredevil. Its great to see him back though. The finale has some fun. It doesn't use Kingpin as much as I had hoped but I assume he will be used in a more significant in the Echo tv show. He's definitely not dead. But the Yelena and Kate elevator fight scene was enormously fun and the Yelena and Clint confrontation was very emotionally satisfying.
The show had a few blemishes. Like I said, they don't really use Kingpin and D'Onofrio as much as I would have liked. Vera Farmiga is also underused despite being an important character towards the end of the season. The pacing is a little inconsistent. They definitely probably could have used another episode or so to flesh out the central conflict. There are some hidden references that didn't amount to much other than a fun easter egg. Like Laura Barton shows abilities and understanding which implies she is more than what she looked which is confirmed by the end of the season that she is Agent 19, a former Agent of SHIELD, known in the comics as Mockingbird, but the show played up the rolex watch which had her id number a fair amount earlier in the season and there is no real payoff for that. I also think the Echo part felt a little rushed. They do a lovely job setting up her past and reason for vengeance but her story changes gears very fast towards the end.
Apart from a few pacing issues and a few underdeveloped characters, the show was a fun and enjoyable ride with some excellent acting. The show also does one thing which Endgame missed out on, which is give a proper emotional sendoff to Natasha. We actually see Clint grieve and we see how much Natasha meant to him. That's why the Yelena and Clint scenes hit hard in the finale because they really feel like two people who are hurting from her loss. The humor also works great and I have to commend the casting for casting Hailee Steinfeld as Kate Bishop. She is an absolute delight in the role, delivering a lot of the humor in the season. I would love to see more of her in future seasons or movies. Alaqua Cox as Maya/Echo is another superb casting choice. I am looking forward to her series because she did an excellent job with it. Jeremy Renner is terrific as he always is in the role. He's seriously underrated. He is playing the straight man in this season a lot but he expresses a lot through tiny gestures. You can feel his weariness, but he's not a grumpy curmudgeon. You see how he becomes fond of Kate and mentors her on small things like her cuts and bruises. He and Hailee have wonderful chemistry together. Fra Free as Kazi is also terrific and he adds a bit of emotional punch to Maya's side of the story. Linda Cardellini makes a welcome return as Laura and I like how we find tidbits throughout the season suggesting she is more than just Clint's wife. Florence Pugh is a scene stealer as she was in Black Widow. Her scenes with Hailee are delightful and I hope we see a next gen Black Widow and Hawkeye team up. The macaroni scene in episode 5 and the fight scene in episode 6 just show their chemistry and clearly there are parallels between them and Clint/Natasha. Tony Dalton is quite funny as Jack, who ended up being quite a likable character and a red herring. Vera Farmiga is good, although a bit wasted for someone of her talents and D'Onofrio is cool as always but I expect we will see more of him in Echo.
All in all, a really fun ride and one that stuck the landing for me. I think this probably ranks above Loki and TFATWS in terms of how much I liked the MCU Disney+ shows. I like all of them. but WandaVision is my favorite and most emotionally resonant. This was more consistent than Loki which had some great episodes and some kind of dull ones. TFATWS was solid but there were some things with the villains that didn't convince me fully with what they were going for. I also really liked that there was a new Christmas themed tv show to watch this season. I always enjoy watching Chrismas related shows around this time of year. Last year it was a Netflix rom com called Dash & Lily. This year its Hawkeye.
