every once in a blue moon I’ll remember this bizarre moment in some festival or another when Brian Buckner, who at the time ran the very diminished True Blood show, was asked about why Sookie didn’t seem to care Tara died that much, and he basically threw Anna Paquin under the bus saying writers trusted the actors to show what the character is feeling and poor Anna, put on the spot, apologized to the crowd, while, we all knew, it’s really the script that was fucking terrible and the show was suffering from losing Allan Ball and probably other writers and it was not her fault.

supernatural s14e12 prophet and loss (w. brad buckner, eugenie ross-leming)
feel like i'm just grinding through s14 at a decent pace. several times now they've made me had minor (to moderate) breakdowns and i just want to keep plowing through because i don't want the breakdowns to last more than one day 🫠 been a long time since a season made me cry so much. and especially with mid-season episodes? but it feels more.... hm. calculated. like when i bitched about 4 months suddenly equals 40 years in hell etc.
ranted about it in 9x09 because i don't think i was making my feelings known here for every episode back in s4
instead i just sighed because “trust me, kevin” and “i always end up screwed :)” so now dean’s gonna feel guilty. he’s already feeling guilty enough, did we need that too? when they push too hard on the excessive dean whump, i get annoyed. like the whole 4 months=40 years, i enjoyed torturing people, etc. edgelord bullshit :P
except instead of getting mad about it being edgelord bullshit now, i'm just feeling brokenhearted and manipulated. very not fun times. it's too much too close together to the jack thing and too similar to things they've done in the past, i think. is why it's pushing me away so hard.
dean's nightmare in the box / suicidal deathbed-esque convo also with interstellar-ish music / interstellar cornfield chase (c. hans zimmer) played by anna lapwood on the organ
well. dean's nightmare was awful. shades of him in hell calling out for sam. cannot fucking wait until this particular plotline gets snuffed out. and because i can't deal with not comparing this interstellar-ish music (it's in both spn scenes) i tacked it on to the end of this video too.
SAM Oh, hey. Didn’t mean to wake you. Sorry. DEAN No, it’s just a… bad dream. It’s fine. SAM You want to talk about it? DEAN No, I’m – No, I’m okay. DEAN What’re you doing? Why don’t you get some sleep? SAM You know, Dean, you don’t have to act like what you’re planning to do is just business as usual. I-I know you’re scared. DEAN Never said I wasn’t scared. But it doesn’t matter. SAM Doesn’t matter? We know we could die, uh, doing what we do. It’s always a possibility. But what you’re talking about is far worse than death. Michael’s an archangel. He could literally keep you buried in a coffin, alive, forever. DEAN Okay. I get it. But what’s the other option, huh? Michael gets outta my head and ends the world? ‘Cause it’s all right there in Billie’s book. SAM Yeah, but that’s only if we don’t find another way to take Michael off the board, and there has to be another way. DEAN And what is that other way? [SAM says nothing.] DEAN Exactly.
(but at least he wasn't sleeping in his jeans this time. oh and they're in an actual normal mid-price generic hotel room)
this reminds me a lot of the conversations in s5 about sammy going in the cage.
and like when i was watching the old guard, i'm like ah yes, stuck in a coffin in the ocean drowning over and over because you're immortal - i have heard this story before! on the vampire diaries! someone... stefan?? was stuck in a ...... safe? and pushed into a lake to repeatedly die and revive. 500 years and 3 months, respectively.
well this rando dude torturing and drowning a woman scene, also awful. jesus. we're committing to darker-than-usual i guess
CAS Sam. Maybe if I spoke with Dean… SAM It wouldn’t matter. Believe me, I-I I’ve never seen him like this. He won’t listen to me. H-He just – No. If we don’t find some way… Dean’s gone.
that interstellar-ish music again...
DEAN You ever think about when we were kids? SAM Maybe. Yeah, sure. Sometimes. W-Why? DEAN I know I wasn’t always the greatest brother to you. SAM Dean, you were the one who was always there for me. The only one. I mean, you practically raised me. DEAN I know things got dicey… you know, with dad… the way he was. And I just… I didn’t always look out for you the way that I should’ve. I mean, I had my own stuff, you know. In order to keep the peace, it probably looked like I took his side quite a bit. Sometimes when I was… when I was away, you know it wasn’t ‘cause I just ran out, right? Dad would… he would send me away when I really pissed him off. I think you knew that. SAM Man, I left that behind a long time ago. I had to. And if we’re gonna get through this, I-I have to do like you said and… try and keep my mind off of where we’re going. So, if we could not have conversations that sound like… deathbed apologies, I would really appreciate it. DEAN Right. Yeah.
listen i know this gets resolved somehow and i'm not gonna bail on this fucking project with a little more than a season left but i can't express how much i don't want to watch something that's making me cry so hard my head is killing me (more than it was already) on a regular basis. this is too many things that cut too close to home with characters i'm too attached to. sigh.

The Cabin in the Woods (2012)
Fact That Totally Worked the First Time I Watched This: The movie's opening was a deliberate attempt by filmmakers Drew Goddard and Joss Whedon to confuse the audience and make them think they walked in to see the wrong movie.
Tumblr media
Reference Fact: The scene where Curt asks Jules about the textbooks, "What are you doing with these? Who gave you these? Who taught you about these?" and she answers, "I learned it from you! Okay? I learned them from watching you!" is a take-off on a 1987 Anti-Drug PSA where the father confronts his son about drug paraphernalia and gets a similar answer.
Tumblr media
Bong Fact: The thermal coffee mug/bong was a fully functional mug and bong as portrayed in the film, the prototype of which cost $5000 to make.

Sweet Fact: When Jules kisses the wolf head on the wall, the wolf's tongue is covered in powdered sugar to give it a dusty look and to make the scene tolerable for Anna Hutchison.
Tumblr media
Latin Fact: The Latin that Dana reads from the diary is: "Dolor supervivo caro. Dolor sublimus caro. Dolor ignio animus." It means: Pain outlives the flesh. Pain raises the flesh. Pain ignites the spirit.

Monster Possibilities: Among the possible choices on the facility's betting board are the following: Werewolf, Alien Beast, Mutants, Wraiths, Zombies, Reptilius, Clowns, Witches, Sexy Witches, Demons, Hell Lord, Angry Molesting Tree, Giant Snake, Deadites, Mummy, The Bride, The Scarecrow Folk, Snowman, Dragonbat, Vampires, Dismemberment Goblins, Sugarplum Fairy, Merman, The Reanimated, Unicorn, Huron, Sasquatch/Wendigo/Yeti, Dolls, Zombie Redneck Torture Family, The Doctors, Jack O' Lantern, Giant, Twins, and Kevin.

hi maybe you aren’t the person to ask but i am so bad at remembering to check who wrote what episode and who created what horrible thing so like. do u know if there’s a spn writers for dummies. i need it desperately i want to make fun of the ppl who deserve it
mmm I haven’t come across anything like that exactly. I have my post kind of giving a general overview of some of the writers, but I didn’t really touch on the bad things that the writers have done. Honestly pretty much all the writers have done SOMETHING, but notable things:
Eugenie Ross-Leming & Brad Buckner: discussed most regarding this topic. Some of their greatest hits include racist truck episode (1x13), Amazonian woman sleeping with Dean with the sole purpose of getting pregnant without his knowledge (7x13), just.... all of Man’s Best Friends With Benefits is terrible but especially the black woman wearing a collar and calling her white male love interest “master” (8x15), the whole Cas & April thing (9x03) (and mentioning it again in their next episode 9x09), Kevin’s death (9x09), Charlie’s death (10x21), Eileen’s death (12x21) (all of these deaths were done tastelessly which make them more egregious), just.... the “cuck” thing in 15x19. There’s other things, but honestly to write everything down for them would be an essay in itself
Eric Kripke: his portrayal and treatment of female characters in general lol, but especially fridging Mary & Jess in the pilot, cultural appropriation of the w*ndigo story (1x02)
Andrew Dabb & Daniel Loflin (including them together bc since they were a writing team, we can’t really be sure who wrote what): the “which cheerleaders are legal” joke while Sam & Dean were undercover at a high school (4x13), ableism in 5x11, Hammer of the Gods has a bunch of issues regarding its portrayal of non-Christian religions (5x19), consent issues between Becky & Sam (7x08)
Dabb himself: fridging Sarah Blake for little reason (8x22), dubcon (12x01), bad portrayal of a Syrian refugee (14x01), the finale..........
Sera Gamble: known for introducing queer side characters in early spn only to kill them off (1x12, 2x21), treatment and killing of Gordon Walker (3x17), killing off Henrikson (3x12), killing off Anna (5x13), killing off Cas with the intention of it being permanent (7x02), killing off Bobby (7x10), generally her showrunning stint
Jeremy Carver: most criticized for being the showrunner where Charlie was killed in a terrible way, but also the gross consent issues with Crowley possessing a woman in 11x01
Robert Berens: killing off Missouri (13x03), killing off Kaia and leaving her in the Bad Place (13x10) (there’s some real-life context for this, but it’s worth mentioning), killing off Billie (15x18).... so.... pattern of killing off fan favorite characters of color (women specifically)
Meredith Glynn: bringing Hitler into an episode and having Dean, a goy, kill him :/ (12x05)
Eric Charmelo & Nicole Snyder: bestiality joke (9x05), fatphobia (9x15)
Julie Siege: “jailbait” joke & fatphobia (4x07), racist comments about Gandhi (5x05), repeated “whore” jokes in 99 Problems that many people take issue with (5x17)
Ben Edlund: consent issues regarding a wishing spell (5x08), probing jokes (6x15), portrayal of Judaism (8x13)
Rachel Nave & Bill Coakley: stereotypical and racist portrayal of Native Americans (1x08)
Richard Hatem: ableism (1x10)
definitely not comprehensive but yeah. Typically, if something is in-your-face problematic, it’s probably Buckner/Leming. But all of the writers pretty much have a hand in some of the more distasteful moments of the series

More pictures from “The Cabin in the Woods: The Official Visual Companion”
Quick description of the pictures:
Pictures 1 to 4: Pictures of the Basement. We can see on them several dolls and toys near the fortune teller’s machine, with also animal horns (I guess they are bull horns?). There is the “clown section” which has clown dolls, several honkers around a children’s drum, a mini-theater, as well as a freakshow/circus poster for “Roberto the Limbless Man”. There is also a bowler hat casually put on top of blue boxes near the “clown section”. Another bowler hat can be seen near “Patience’s Vanity”, on a small wooden chair. Of course there is Patience’s Vanity (the one that contains her diary, located near her portrait). There are several black and white pictures of horses on the wall. There is a strange map/board showing an very old representation of the universe (the kind where the Sun rotates around the Earth), as well as a thick eagle statue
Picture 5: The spheric puzzle that invokes the “Hell Lord”, an hommage to the Lament Configuration of Hellraiser.
Picture 6: The White Board of the bettings. We get to see it better in the movie so I won’t spell out everything on it.
Picture 7: Close-up of the Ballerina.
Picture 8: Close-up of the Hell Lord/Buzzhead
Picture 9: The Werewolf jumping against the walls of his cube
Picture 10: A zoom on the screens when the Facility Staff are looking for the missing “sacrifices”. We can see our heroes, right next to the cube containing the Nosferatu and the one containing the Twins.
A look at the original script of Cabin in the Woods (present in the Visual Companion):
# The script already mentionned among the departments of the Facility “Engineering”, “R&D”, “Electrical”, “Chemical”, “Security”, “Maintenance” and “Zoology”.In the scene of the “office party”, Ronald the Intern is seen discussing with “a military liaison and a werewolf wrangler”.
# The script mentions in the basement the presence of “old rusty tools”, an “old record player”, a “child’s toy chest”, a “dressmaker’s mannequin”, the daguerrotype of Prudnce, the music box (located among “child’s toys on the floor”, the conch, the wooden sphere, the amulet around the neck of the mannequin, the “old super 8 projector with film reel” and the “old leather bound” found on the vantiy next to an old hairbrush and a silver mirror.
# Note that in the original script, the “dressmaker’s mannequin” was merely a mannequin - there is no mention of being on it any dress or any particular wedding dress, it seems to have been a late addition. The amulet was always the key item causing the invocation.
# The script describes the Buckners as such : “Father” with a scythe and his jaw “worked on”. Mother, armed with a “broken saw” and with “coals” in her belly. Judas, as “skinny” with a “broken shear”. Matthew as “enormous”. And Anna Patience as “little” and “one-armed”. “Zombies not-so decomposed, from the 1900s, and armed with farm implements”. Later Matthew’s weapon is described as a “chain with a broken bear trap at the hand”.
# The script mentions already some of the monster names on the “white betting board” : Zombie Redneck Torture Family, Vampires, Werewolves, Floating Witches, Aliens, Zombies, Kevin, Clowns, Wraiths, Scarecrows, Angry Molesting Tree, Mutants. Of course the Merman is also present.
# The Japanese monster is described as a “floating wet girl” in the script.
