So the tumblr video player plays videos without sound from the get go, pauses the video when you click on the sound button, enlarges the video and freezes in place if you click anywhere else on the video, and won't play from the start with sound unless you then back out of the enlarged video, or drag the player back to the starting position??? So convoluted, glitchy, and stupid I am losing my mind. Like how could you fuck it up so bad

Android users... I've never felt so comfortable. I just deleted so much data I didn't want to share and turned off the personalized ads...

It's not perfect, but it sure as hell is better than nothing.

Edit for context; my phone does and it's Android 14, with a recent update from August 1st (I didn't actually restart my phone to install it until this morning tho because I was lazy abt it.) For me it's located in settings > security and privacy > privacy > ads

there's something so deeply dystopian to me how tech companies don't understand that a forced convenience is not a convenience at all. i'm sure autocorrect is helpful for many, but a function that forcibly changes my actual written words and punctuation is taking away my language. photo filters can be nice but i need to choose using them myself or else i have lost the ability to take the picture i want. i don't want a machine to draw or write for me. taking away the option for me to do things manually feels like violence!!!! all this talk of endless opportunity, why are you RESTRICTING me

Vor ein paar Wochen konnte man sich für die Beta des HyperOS Updates des Redmi Note 13 Pro+ 5G anmelden. Das habe ich natürlich auch gemacht und mich schon gefreut, das Update testen zu dürfen. Nach dem honor 7 wäre das mal wieder schön gewesen. Es ist schon sehr lange her, seit ich die letzte Beta Version eines Smartphone Updates testen durfte. okay so, a lot is being said about all the shitty changes on tumblr lately. i've avoided many of these changes by downgrading to older versions of the tumblr app on android. however, there's one drawback i've faced: if you go back too far, you lose polls, one of the only good new features. so i decided to experiment version-by-version to see when certain desirable or undesirable features were added to the apk. unfortunately there's no version with polls but without tumblr live. i've compiled the detailed results here, in order of most recent version number

NOTE: to get old versions of tumblr, use apkmirror.com, which is a trustworthy, reputable source for .apk files, android's package installers. to downgrade your app you need to uninstall it and install an older apk (not necessary for upgrading to a higher version). a list of available apks for tumblr can be found here

TUMBLR .APK VERSION TESTING RESULTS

first version with new media viewer. any version before this should be okay in that department. (thanks @weeeeps for finding this!)

last version of app where the "open tumblr links in app" feature functions properly even if the tracker api2.branch.io is blocked by your content blocker

if you use a version later than this, to successfully open a tumblr link from anywhere else on your phone in the you app, you have to unblock api2.branch.io from the ad/content blocker you use, otherwise opening the link in the app will fail. this took me some trial and error to figure out the issue

note: if you don't have an ad/tracker blocker on your phone, I'd recommend Blokada 5 (not 6)

again, disappointingly there isn't a version with polls but without tumblr live. if you want to see a poll you'll either have to share a post containing a poll to a web browser, or just use 27.8.0.109 (or slightly newer) and deal with snoozing tumblr live and having the live button on the navbar, but at least you get the old media viewer and can go up reblog chains again

sometime after the most recent version i tested, the new media player was also added. if anyone wants to test for the last version with the old media player, i can add that to the list as well added :)

if you want a version of the tumblr app with polls that doesn't have live, someone would probably have to mod the apk. i don't know how to do that, but there's modded versions of many popular apps out there, so maybe someone can try and see if that's possible for tumblr. otherwise just keep complaining about the shittiness and maybe staff will go back on the bad changes, though i wouldn't hold my breath on that

oh and if you're on iOS idk what to tell you, you probably have to jailbreak it to downgrade an app

Hi! I'm autistic, and Discord's latest mobile update is total and utter dogshit. They made it objectively less usable for no discernible reason. I'm here to help you fix that, and revert to the last update.

Disclaimer: I'm on Android, so these instructions are for Android only. If you're on IOS, I know there is a way to do it, but I'm not going to post instructions I haven't tested.

1. **UNINSTALL DISCORD.** This will not work if any user on your phone (probably only one unless you're into more technical stuff than even I am) has a more recent version installed.

2. Disable automatic app updates. If you're doing this, I expect you to already know how this works.

3. Download the APKMirror Installer (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.apkmirror.helper.prod&hl=en_US). It will require you to watch an ad when you install the APK, but you can uninstall it after you're done.

4. Download this APK, it's the latest pre-update Discord distribution: (https://drive.google.com/file/d/1SSWdpi0Ms7wyHgDSSRqZgY4_G6r_wA0X/view?usp=drivesdk).

5. Use the APKMirror app to install the APK.

6. You're done! Launch it and log in. Feel free to uninstall APKMirror Installer and delete the APK file from your storage at this point, as you will not need them.

If you want to re-enable auto-updates for other things, follow these instructions in the app store:

- Enable aeroplane mode.

- Re-enable auto-updates of your choice (usually WiFi only).

- Navigate to the Discord app's settings in the app store.

- Disable Discord app's auto-update check box.

- Turn off aeroplane mode.

That's about it! Don't forget to leave them a negative review. If we can get a reversion of this update, that's the best outcome. Stay beautiful people.
