Miraculous Rewrite - Flight of the Macaw

Fascinating.

We start on an empty bridge at sunset. There’s a faint whistling noise, like the wind whipping through a small passage. A spot of red is seen at the very edge of the bridge. Red, yellow, and blue specifically. Zhao Kai is standing on the edge of the bridge and slowly begins approaching a certain ice cream stall on the other side.

“My good fellow, I believe I am in the mood for street foods. I’ve never tried how the French make their ice cream before, what would you recommend?”

Poor Andre the ice cream man, he’s suddenly confronted by one of Paris’ supervillains, though a lesser well known one at least. But he’s a man of his craft first and foremost, and he takes his time with analyzing Zhao Kai as he did with others all the way back during Glaciator, taking the length of his scarf/wings, glancing through his glasses to guess his prescription, and possibly even mumbling a ‘fascinating’ to himself as he took in a few more details. Andre puts all of this information together and comes up with an ice cream combination of sour raspberry, lemon sorbet, and strawberry for a touch of sweet. Zhao Kai wonders aloud if all Parisian ice cream treats were so tailor made, to which Andre responds that his perfected matching system was one that other vendors wished they had access to!

Zhao Kai nods and takes a bite of his iced cream. “Very sour.”

“Do you not like it?”

“No, it's good.”

“Well… then I thank you!”

“You’re very welcome.” Zhao Kai looks down at the ice cream, and twirls his whistle once more in his grip. “It’s a shame really.”

“...Sir?”

“Quite the lovely stand you have, it’s a shame it can’t last.” Zhao Kai blows on his whistle “Commune.” Zhao Kai trots away as Andre looks into the distance, face quickly growing pale as he picks up his cart and begins to try and run.

Cue intro.

When we cut back it’s to earlier in the day, particularly in the morning. It looks like this is the day after Desire Witch, as Marinette and Adrien were curled right back up into the nap pile as before, just now starting to awaken.

But Kagami has either of them beat, as her sleep wasn’t interrupted the night previous. She yawns and stretches, detangling herself from the slowly awakening pile and shuffling into the kitchenette. Sitting on top of the counter is Chloe, sipping at an iced coffee and paging through some notes, assumed to be the Tablet work. Kagami picks up the coffee pot.

“It’s decaf”

“Can you not put your uncaffeinated garbage in the pot at the beginning of the morning?” Kagami gripes, Chloe raises a brow, and Kagami grunts “I’m mean when I’m half asleep.” She responds evenly before downing the decaf from the spout and putting another caffeinated pot together. “Where does your sister keep the energy shots?”

“Bottom cupboard.”

“Thanks.”

Kagami downs a shot easily and places it in the specially marked ‘energy shot bottles’ basket, to eventually be recycled for potion storage.

“You know Marinette used to be able to incorporate potions into our Kwami’s food.”

“Do I look like a baker to you? You really gonna put another job on Marinette’s shoulders? Or are you gonna suck it up and deal with carrying energy shots around? I can be mean in the mornings too Tsurugi.”

“Did you even sleep?”

“Yeah for half the akuma battle.”

“I’m guessing that’s why you’re not angry with Luka for his lack of presence in the sleep pile either.”

“I’m not THAT much of a hypocrite.”

“Hm. So how was the akuma? Anything particularly threatening?”

“Adrikin’s crazy aunt just did it to herself for whatever reason. He and Marinette combined their miraculouses with Felix and Bridget’s and made some nifty things. Not like I could see it though since I was asleep for the whole fight.” Chloe bitterly took another long sip of her coffee.

“Hm.” They continued to stand in silence for a bit until the front doors slid open and Sabrina pokes her head in, looking around at the tired pile and glancing at Amber before shrugging and approaching Chloe and Kagami in the kitchenette.

“So are you all just going to start living down here full time or something?”

“Ew. Just because we’re all a bunch of paranoid chumps hanging out in the only safe place we’ve got doesn’t mean we’re all just gonna camp out down here forever. We’re not the Avengers.”

Sabrina sidles up beside the two and humms. “Hey Kagami?”

“Mm”

“Is it okay that I’m not in ‘hero bootcamp’ like Rose or Juleka?”

“Rose and Juleka are in fighting bootcamp because they came into this with the intention to fight, you only have Duusuu as a safety precaution. If we trusted M. Agreste with one he’d likely be given Orikko.”

“Not Duura?”

“You think he could string those hairclips into his short hair?”

“Fair enough.”

“However that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t be practicing, you have been discussing the ins and outs of creating monsters with Duusuu, I trust?”

“Mmhm, it’s something that can easily turn on a person and should only be used if you really know them. And when used on inanimate objects it can transform the surrounding area to fit whatever the strongest personality in the room wants, which if used in conjunction with an Akuma would almost always mean the Akuma itself.”

“Mmhm.” Kagami huffs. “Good. And you can throw the spokes but you’ve gotta be quick if you need to get in there, you only need one hit to get the spoke inside.”

“Mmhm, and the Monster as the base Id of a person can’t be commanded by anything beyond the will of the person it’s made from so it’s perfectly capable of becoming a new opponent, as such it should only be used on allies.”

“Indeed.”

“I think I have Duusuu’s powers down. I mean- to my best ability to have them down without actually using them yet.”

“Good. No offense, Sabrina, but it’s been rough enough to get Rose and Juleka into fighting shape and they have weapons I actually know how to handle. If you want how-to’s on handling a fan you’re going to need to speak with the last Peacock user yourself.”

Sabrina looks away, eyes wide. As anyone would be when advised to seek council from a former supervillain.

“....Okay I’ll just uh- I’ll just do that.”

“I can go with you if you’re nervous.” Chloe looks up from her papers and raises a brow at Sabrina, a sort of uneasy feeling still lingering between the two. Before Chloe smirks. “Or Amby can if you’d be more comfortable with that.” Sabrina turns red and takes the pot of coffee as it finishes up the drip and pours herself a mug, downing it instantly despite the steam.

“Very funny Chloe.”

“What? I think it’s cute! You resented Amber enough to let Lila convince you to try to get us all expelled and now here it has become! What was half of all of that outrage, some sort of growing attraction you weren’t fully aware of as some kind of nervous response because you’d never had a bi panic before?”

Sabrina looks off to the side, and Chloe’s eyes widen. “Oh my god it totally was wasn’t it?”

“Oh Chloe!” Sabrina swats Chloe’s arm “I’ve never seen YOU be some sort of icon you seem to want to look like!”

“You know I was in love with Ladybug for our entire first year.”

“Yeah and then she was Marinette!”

“We don’t talk about that part of it.”

The conversation continues as more and more kids begin to wake up and begin mourning routines, rummaging in bags to find toothbrushes, stumbling to join everyone in the kitchenette for snacks or caffeine.

Eventually the front door opens and Luka pokes his head in. “Okay, I don’t think we were tailed from last night, whatever the reasons Miss Sancour had for akumatizing herself, a distraction for someone to track us with doesn’t seem to be one of them.”

“Good get some sleep.” Marinette huffs when she sits up.

“I did, for most of the last Akuma.”

“Alright freeloaders, we can’t keep cooping up down here all the time just because we’re jumpy and nervous.” Chloe finally states. “Go back to your homes, call your civilian friends. That means you, three Terminale Trio.”

“Hah! That means us Fe.” Bridget laughs cheekily and bites into a muffin. “Yeah we should probably make sure Melody and Claude aren’t about to break up again. “

“And that Alan’s applications are going okay.” Felix agrees

Kim is clearly already on the phone with Ondine as he’s already packed up and heading out. And as assumed the kids inside begin to sort of shuffle about, heist complete, rest had, now it’s time to prepare for battle but go back to normal life.

It’s been a long road but for a few of them, it’s time to unclench. For others the prospect of leaving the relative safety of the base and returning to their far more unprotected homes seems to fill them with dread.

Luka of course being one of those dreading gazes. Thankfully, groggy or not Chloe’s a decent enough girlfriend, and links an arm in his “Hey, do you wanna do something tonight?” Luka grins back at her.

“Ohhh! That’s a good idea! Feeeee let’s go get something tasty tonight! We got chinsed last night because SOME people decided to ditch us!”

“I’m guessing we’d have to take Claude and Melody on a double date or they’re going to kill us for dipping for this long and then just going on a date without them.”

“We might as well bring Alan too and make it a group date then!”

“....You know what I'm gonna call that bluff, let’s do it. Give us no space to duck out somewhere to make out, no real opportunity to be affectionate because suddenly this is more a platonic hangout than a date. Let’s do it.”

“Oh…. okay!”

Sabrina finishes up her coffee and looks over at Amber, whom is glancing significantly at her for a moment before looking away.

“....hey Amber?”

“Yeah?”

“...Do you want to have a real date?”

Amber turns bright red.

But the scene shifts. Shifts back actually to that scene at dusk. Zhao Kai has just finished up his ice cream and tosses the cone into the trash, the sound of Andre shouting in fear and confusion as the clip clop of hooves rapidly draw near him.

“Delightful. Now, what else should come?” looking around he finds, where else? The zoo. And Smiles in tranquility. “What a way to acquire attention.” He blows the whistle again. “Commune! To me! Follow close behind!”

There’s a rumbling, growling, thunderous pounding. Screams of fear.

“Wonderful. It’s been some time since you all have been allowed to stretch your legs has it not? Come now my friends. We have some heroes to attract the attention of!” He gestures and the elephant kneels down, allowing him far easier access to a higher vantage point, or rather just a more intimidating perch, as he blows the whistle again and the animals begin to follow.

A similarly patterned macaw flutters forward and perches on Zhao Kai’s shoulder.

The parrot blinks at him and “Something wrong?” it chirps

“Oh? No, I am perfectly fine.”

The bird preens its feathers a little “Something wrong?” it chirps again.

“Well, It’s nothing for a pretty bird like yourself to worry over.”

“Pretty bird!” The parrot chirps in agreement before tilting its head and pecking at his mask. “Something wrong?”

“..Well.. if you insist.” Zhao Kai sighs indulgently and lets the bird perch on his arm instead of shoulder. “It seems as though all of my compatriots are slowly going insane from the setbacks we’ve been placed under, and I’m worried if we do not develop results soon I’ll be the last sane man in a world of madness.”

The bird blinks at him “Pretty bird?”

“I suppose you’re right my friend.” he scratches the bird’s neck. “I must be taking initiative and coming to find these results on my own before I can begin to complain about our lack of progress.”

“Pretty bird!”

But just as Zhao Kai continues to insist that he’s perfectly sane as he talks to a bird, we shift scenes.

The respective date nights are being prepped for intermittently as the sun creeps steadily through the sky, Chloe and Amber debating either of their locations with each other as Amber struggles into the fancy clothes we saw in Protective Detective. She hesitates for a moment and looks herself over in the mirror.

“Hey Chloe?”

“Hm?”

“I… I don’t think today is a skirt day, can I borrow some suit pants?”

“Yeah sure.” Amber is clearly thinking something over as she changes up the look. “Hey do you-...?”

“What?”

Amber pauses before shaking her head. “Nevermind.”

Chloe raises a brow before huffing. “You’re lucky I’m shifting into ‘date’ mode or I’d be grilling you on whatever the hell that was.”

“I appreciate it.”

We shift to Sabrina, putting together her own outfit and is stopped after a moment with a hand on her shoulder. “Where do you think you’re going little lady?”

“I have a date tonight papa!” Roger raises a brow at her and tilts his head.

“You just got back from hanging out with friends and now you’ve got a date?”

“Is that a problem?”

“....Homework done?”

“Yep.”

“Essay?”

“Waiting for the peer reviews that won’t start until class on Monday.”

“What about that History project?”

“I’ve done all I can do until you get paid for that last case and we can go to the craft store.” Roger huffs.

“Fine. Be back before-”

“Eleven! I know!”

Roger huffs and pats her head. “Be careful honey.”

“I will, papa.”

Quick cut then to the gently swaying liberty.

“I thought you said you liked her! You said Chloe’s got a ‘fighter’s spirit’!” Luka folds his arms, challenging brow raised at Anarka whom huffs, though she looks distracted.

“She seems good, but You never know what kind of skeletons are in the closet of someone that rich-”

“Is this about you and Jagged Stone again? I thought you two decided to try and bury the hatchet after you both became Akumas!”

“Luka-”

“Mom please don’t make my love life about your beef, I have never ONCE heard you say anything about Juleka’s kinda-sorta thing with Ali. He’s a Literal. Prince. Mom.”

Ankara huffs and Puffs, and when Luka turns to go back through his things, he’s startled to see Dynaa hovering in front of him.

“You’d make a delightful ox if I wasn’t already bonded to my little calf.”

“Uh.. thanks?”

We cut again, but this time to another Kwami, Fidde in specific. The sweet little mutt happily gussying up Felix’s more normal casual look in little ways.

“Fidde, I’m fine. It’s just Bridget!”

“Just Bridget? Just Bridget?! Pup this is the love of your life we’re talking about!”

“Please don’t say cheesy things like that-”

“For how long have the two of you have been staking your courtship, how could anyone underestimate the amount of affection the two of you have for eachother!”

“Which is exactly why it doesn’t matter if I-”

“Oh but it does matter, pup! It matters so much that you present yourself as well as possible for your intended!”

“Don’t say ‘intended’ like we’re engaged.”

“You may as well be! You two have been together for many a year, your courtship has escalated past that of simple dating, and even by the nature of what might be considered proper by the standards of the era-”

“YES I GET IT FIDDE THANK YOU”

Fidde chuckles, but when he straightens Felix’s tie, Felix lets him. “Okay you mongrel, do you want chocolate to keep you quiet or what?”

“Well I wouldn’t mind….”

“Fine, but for that crack you get the cheap stuff.” Felix rummages through a desk drawer and pulls out a foil wrapped chocolate coin, you know the ones. “We’re not really even going anywhere ‘special’ it’s just a restaurant we both really like, We’re practically regulars there at this point.”

“Well then you must retain a good impression!” Fiddle chirps, already scarfing down the coin. “If these people Know you then they’ll hold it over you if you embarrass yourself.”

“Fidde are you on edge or something you’re not usually this nuts about my date nights.”

Fidde swallows the coin and pauses. Leaning in close to poke Felix’s nose with a paw. “I just worry about you Pup.”

“Don’t be. It’ll be fine.”

There’s a knock on Felix’s door and Michael’s voice pipes up. “Bridget’s here, Fe. You two are practically getting attached at the hip nowadays, anyone tell you that?”

Felix shoots a short glare at Fidde. “Really? I hadn’t noticed.”

But the door bursts open quickly, Bridget right there and raring to go and Felix grins and stands up, but just as she grabs his arm and tugs him for the door Felix’s grin turns to a smirk.

“So To Claude’s first or Alan’s?”

As the sun starts to set and the sky turns to dusk, and as we inch closer to the same lighting we’ve been watching Zhao Kai bully the people of Paris in, we get some quick shots on the three dates we’re following today. Bridget, Felix, and the rest of the friend group (Minus Luka) are all crammed into a booth in some cute hole in the wall restaurant.

Bridget is pouting, Felix is watching her with a knowing smirk.

“So Melody, how’d that last school interview go?”

Melody’s eyes widen and she slams a hand down onto the table, face suddenly scarlet with frustration. “Let me tell you about those snobs off in Italy!” Claude leans forward on a propped up arm and smiles at Melody as she starts to rant, Alan listening with good natured humor.

Bridget is listening but she’s still sulking, there’s a shuffle and she looks down to see Felix linking his pinky with hers. She huffs and puffs and refuses to give any leeway, but she doesn’t pull away.

Just around the time the sun has merely disappeared over the horizon the small crowd of kids has left the restaurant, bellies full and spirits high when-

The trumpeting elephants sound.

We cut then to the cafe that Sabrina and Amber tend to hang out. The two of them both dressed up a little more than usual and Amber wearing the pants instead of the skirt from the previous date outfit.

“Are you okay?” Amber darts her head up at the question.

“Huh?”

“You look troubled.” Sabrina continues. “Are you okay?”

“Oh I’m fine I just…” Amber shrugs. “I guess it kinda just started really hitting for me that I don't have to keep up with anything my mother said she wanted out of me. Like, If I really, really wanted to, I wouldn’t even have to be a girl, you know?”

Sabrina’s eyes widened. “.... Do you want to?”

Amber’s expression pinches. “I’m… I dunno. Maybe? Maybe I just want to try out my options, maybe I really do have something else in here. It… kinda feels weird just being allowed to call my own shots and mean it I guess. Now that we’ve got the Miracle Box back I guess it’s starting to hit me that we don’t have to focus exclusively on being the best heroes we can be.”

“Well if you need someone to help you pick out a new name or change up some pronouns I’ll be right here to give you a hand! And I’m sure Chloe will be more than happy to help.”

“Heh, Thanks. I’ll uh- I’ll keep you guys updated.”

But just as the two of them come to that agreement there’s the sound of a growling big cat and they both look outside to see the panther from the Zoo rush past.

But now we keep on Sabrina and Amber, they glance at each other and nod. Amber slaps a handful of Euro down on the table as the two of them ditch the cafe, the two of them pulling into an alleyway once available, Amber opens up her jacket and Sabrina opens her messenger bag. Bellflower is there in an instant, but she looks back at Sabrina, right before unleashing the trompo and heading out to fight.

“If you want to join, you can, but you don’t have to.”

Sabrina nods, and looks to Duusuu. “It’s your call.”

Duusuu looks sad for a moment, drifting forward and placing her paws on Sabrina’s cheek. But we cut away before she answers one way or the other.

We’re back on Zhao Kai now. He still has that bird from before, and he’s still chillin on top of the elephant, but he seems like he’s getting bored.

“My friend, don’t you think those heroes are waiting too long?”

“Pretty bird!”

“Indeed. Perhaps a greater show of force is necessary.” He blows the whistle and the elephant rears back, letting out a trumpet sound so loud car alarms nearby start to go off.

The panther lets out a big cat roar, but then there’s a stomp of a white boot against the pavement, and the sharp flash of fangs, and Cheshire is looming over the panther, roaring back. The panther shrinks back. And Zhao Kai leans in a bit to take in Cheshire.

“Well, A bit of a disappointing turnout if the Tiger’s the only one who's bothering to show up, but I won’t be complaining. I’m sure Shorr is tired of dealing with a child who sits on her feelings as much as you seem to Miss Bourgeois.”

“Ugh, blah blah blah you and Tsering Wan really don’t know how to shut up, don’t you?” Cheshire draws her tonfa. “You gonna fight me or am I gonna have to play animal control first?”

“I suppose not. I have been making little distractions all around the city today, it’s possible your friends are already too busy ‘playing animal control’ on their own.”

“So what is it your turn to be pissed off and erratic from how thoroughly you got your butts kicked the night before last?”

“No, It’s my turn to be the last sane man in the Order. But to do that, I'm going to need to see your bracelet, Miss Tiger.”

Zhao Kai shooes his bird friend off of him and begins to spin his whistle, it lets out a high pitched whine as it does do. “Shall we dance madame?”

The engagement is quick and brutal, Chloe is small and fast and knows how to use that to her advantage, but though Zhao Kai is at a physical disadvantage he’s smarter and has been doing this for far longer, so as he fights, he’s also using the noise to continue to control the animals in his current surroundings, Chloe could probably take him and win if she was just fighting Zhao Kai, but Zhao Kai isn’t examining them as heroes anymore. So Chloe also has to deal with depleted sight range from the birds getting in her face, the teeth from the panther as it flanks her in her blindspots, and a million other little ways to wear down a tiger.

Thankfully that’s when the backup arrives. First in the form of the Lyre that zips through the air and intercepts the panther right as it was about to lunge toward Chess while her attention was on another animal, Viperion appearing at her side and halting Zhao Kai’s advancement for a time. Unfortunately it doesn’t seem like Vipe’s addition has quite done a lot, they’re still fighting Zhao Kai to a standstill.

Viperion lands a solid punch, but the Elephant trumpets again and this time charges forward, the two having to jump out of the way.

Viperion slides open the panel on his Lyre, muttering ‘come on…’ to himself as Cheshire covers him. “Anybody? We need some backup over here…”

Seems like the team was spread out, little more than two people per group handling huge animal control issues that actual animal control wouldn’t be able to handle. Ladybug and Carapace handling a gorilla and a gaggle of monkeys, Ryuuko and Roi Singe making sure the tiger doesn’t maul anyone, basically showing that Zhao Kai had been very careful in the arranging of this little setup. Luka swears harshly.

“How are we looking?” he asks

“Like we were prepped for a date but had to go fight instead, so probably uncomfortably hot to anyone who’s into that sort of thing.” Chess responds.

“Oh is that why it took so long to get anyone’s attention? You were all having date nights? How charming.”

He almost lands a punch while Chloe’s distracted but she’s able to throw up her tonfa and block him in the nick of time. A bit of movement from the corner of her eye garners attention, and just as the Macaw goes to blow on his whistle again, a glowing cloud of bees zip out and slip right into the whistle, keeping sound from coming through it.

“Oh!... How creative.” He mutters as Bellflower makes landing.

“Did I miss anything?”

“Came at just the right time.” Chess responds with a grin. “Help us beat up this old man?”

“You know it.” Bellflower uses the remaining swarm to fend off the birds, but the larger animals unfortunately are not afraid of them so they continue having to get out of the way of charging elephants, biting panther jaws, and other such large animals.

But there maybe weren’t enough bees to slide into the whistle that they couldn’t be shaken off, as Zhao Kai is able to pull away just enough to give the whistle a hearty spin and fling the bees away and give it one sharp tune, an ear shattering shrill noise, and the ‘commune’ that follows echoes loud and deep.

“To me my friends! All who are not keeping heroes busy, to me!”

And suddenly there’s foxes, pigeons, wolves, and bears quickly making their way to the location. And numbers weren’t on the heroes’ side anymore.

Luka reaches for Second Chance right as the animals descend upon them.

The fight is a bit difficult to keep track of by design, everywhere there are teeth and fur and paws and claws and feathers slashing and tearing against weapons and suits, a hawk dives forward right through Amber’s cloud of bees and is able to snag one of Cheshire’s tonfa and pull away with it.

“Guys I'm running low on stripes!” Bellflower cries out, and Viperion looks down at his timepiece and sure enough he was down more scales than he thought he was.

“We need to hurry! Chess, can you disrupt things with cacophony?”

“I can try-”

She reels back, shouts “Cacophony!” But just as she takes a breath to scream another voice cries out “Amplify!” the copper magic dousing her and the other heroes as Bloodhound’s chakram spins above. Chess grins. She reels back and the scream she lets out is FAR stronger than her normal one. Quite a few smaller animals are blasted back just by the sound, and others cringe away in pain.

Zhao Kai is unaffected, and simply rolls his eyes. “It seems I'm being left entirely with the… what, the C+ team? How unfortunate.”

“Sorry we’re late!” Bloodhound huffs, recalling the chakram and sending toward the hawk holding Chess’ tonfa hostage. “Got held up shaking the others.”

“If we were just doing a normal date we wouldn’t have needed to.” Nimh huffs as she lassos a rhinoceros with her jumprope.

“It was your idea.”

“I was joking!”

“Hey fighting couple, can we focus?” Chess finally chimes in. “We’ve got an old nerd trying to kill us.”

“Right. Sorry.” “Oh sure you apologize to HER” “Can we not do this now, Nimh?”

“They do know the more they argue the more time they’re giving me to come up with a strategy, right?” “Pretty bird!”

“Right.” “Indeed” They both grin and Bloodhound raises a hand, a flash of blue as a fan spoke rushes through the air and lodges right into the back of his hand. Bloodhound pitches to the side, Nimh catching him and lowering him to the ground as something begins to sprout and grow from his hand. A clawed hand covered in white fur. A bipedal animal looking like something between a cat and a dog, snow white fur, and gleaming purple eyes.

Zhao Kai’s eyes widened. “Oh, you little sh-”

The monster attacks. Rending teeth and claws and fur too thick to cut into. It’s… a little scary. Just a little.

Quick comedy cut that even the animals are looking on in horror as their master avoids getting mauled.

“Oh geez, I didn't think Felix had THAT much repressed rage…” a quieter voice chimes, and sure enough, a peacock user with red hair steps out from the shadows. “Maybe I should have done Bridget instead.”

“Commune! Commune!” Zhao Kai finally calls out, voice in pain. “To me! To me!” With one more shrill whistle blow, barely able to get the thing into his mouth, the animals under Zhao Kai’s control all turn to the monster. But just as they descend, the monster vanishes, Nimh pulling the fan spoke from Bloodhound’s hand.

“Horrifying! Thanks Hound!” Bloodhound blinks blearily as his brain hesitates to kick back into gear.

But that was a lot of confusion for the animals, and- what do animals do when overwhelmed? They go a little nuts.

It’s not as dangerous as before, but everybody does get separated. Visibility drops to zero and there’s a cry from Nimh somewhere in the din. We focus on Bloodhound in the madness, he’d been tugged away from Nimh by an invisible force, and his stance is still wobbly as he only just woke up from being a pretty brutal monster.

There’s the caw of a hawk, the trumpet of an elephant, there’s thunderous footsteps and beats of wings against the air, and everything around him is all at once. And for a moment he spies a bit of red and reels back, thumping against someone.

“Bridget?”

“Not quite.” he gently grasps Felix’s shoulders, Felix reels back to kick at him, but Zhao Kai’s grip is like iron. He leans in for us to see his face, and his costume is torn, cuts and scrapes along his entire face, some angry red others sluggishly bleeding, his glasses are missing.

“You’re more violent than you want to believe yourself. Far more angry than you like to let others know. You’re not a good fit for the dog, Felix Agreste. You know what must be done to dogs that bite.” Felix takes a step back but it's over in a flash, an elbow rams itself into his neck and as Felix is reeled forward gasping for air there’s a hand that closes around his neck, right over the place of impact and yanks.

There’s the snap of breaking metal, the shimmering noise of magic, and Fidde’s voice cries out a sad ‘My pup!’ before it’s inexplicably gone.

Felix collapses to the ground, wheezing and unable to get his breathing to clear, and when he blearily looks up, the Macaw is gone.

Eventually the animals clear out, Luka isn’t looking at anyone and his gaze is firmly on his lyre, nervously plucking at strings.

Nimh coughs a few times, fanning the dust before she catches sight of Felix. “Fe!” She rushes over and puts a hand on him as he huffs and gags for breath.

“Macaw- he-” Felix rasps “He took Fidde.”

“What?!”

Chess turns to Viperion, who is still very pointedly not looking at anyone else. A sort of nervous realization passed onto her.

“Wait, how did he?”

“I was still dizzy from being a monster.” Felix huffs and Nimh helps him to his feet. “He snuck up on me when we got separated.” He glances up. “Luka can you-”

“No.”

There’s a long pause.

“What do you-”

“I’m not using Second Chance on this.”

Felix blinks, somewhere between baffled and outraged but hasn’t quite settled yet. “Why- Why not? We just LOST a Miraculous Luka!”

“And whenever we try to get it back or do something else to avoid it someone dies.” Luka clenches his jaw. “This sucks but it’s better than anybody dying.”

“No way. There- there has to be SOME other way to-” Cheshire walks up to Viperion’s side and leans against him. “....really?” Felix’s voice flattens. “Your girlfriend huh? She’s been a target ever since I was put ON this team! And crazy to believe, but I think I might have known you for a lot longer than she did!” Felix’s voice keeps rising as he stalks over, his voice is still raspy but he’s clearly too pissed to care. “They didn’t just take Fidde just because Luka! They need him for their spell! Just because Chloe got unlucky in, what, ONE timeline doesn’t mean-!”

“Felix it was Bridget!” Luka finally shouts back.

The street goes dead silent, the echo of Luka’s yell resounding on the buildings, ringing in Felix’s ears, and out of the corner of his eye, he can see Nimh’s hands go up to her mouth. The silence lingers for a beat, then another, and Felix slumps to the ground.

“And they need the Tiger, too.” It’s softer, the second part, but there’s an edge to it. “Even if it was Chloe who died, that’d mean we regained one they needed at the cost of another.”

“Either way, they won this round.”

Amber glances at Sabrina, who looks rather shaken herself, and looking down at the fan spoke now laying harmlessly on the ground. “Welcome to the team…” Amber huffs, Sabrina lets out a high nervous chuckle.

The camera pangs up to the sky, a fast-forward view of dusk to proper nighttime, stars and the moon decorating the sky, and when we shift back down, it’s not on that street, it’s on the Liberty, with Chloe and Luka on the deck. The two are curled up together on one of the chairs, under a blanket, and it’s clear that Luka’s still stressed.

His hands tremble just a little as he holds her.

Anarka peers out at them from the door briefly, but there’s a shot of Chloe, gentle and kind, pressing a kiss to Luka’s hands that still the trembles for a moment, and the mother leaves for below deck, mouthing a brief “he’ll be alright” to Juleka and Dynaa, and they head back to Juleka’s bedroom after the girl nods back.

Beneath the chairs and out of sight on a small fluffy cushion Shorr and Sass are resting, Shorr gesturing upward and Sass shaking his head.

“I’m not sure how much longer I can keep doing this.” Voices like whispers and an ever shifting musician, seemingly unable to even find some comfortable position let alone something soothing. Chloe squeezes his hand tighter. “I feel like every time I do it I'm losing my mind a little more…”

Chloe doesn’t speak yet, and for good reason. “You know how many of our teammates have died before? How many times I’ve had to reset and carry that with me? How many times Scorpion killed someone or an Akuma got lucky or just something unfortunate came about?” He huffs. “I’ve had nightmares where the Wolf nulls my power first and then stops holding back.”

“I’m sorry, that… that sucks.” I mean, what can you say to something like that?

“You’ve died a lot too.” Luka admits after a pause. “Almost always Scorpion.” Chloe hisses through her teeth. “That’s… the real reason why I was keeping you back from the field sometimes. Some of those times I'd have Second Chance ready but you stayed behind were because if you went out Scorpion was nearby and he’d- Just by being out you’d infuriate him and he’d kill you before you even made it to the akuma fight.”

“Wow, he needs to get a life.”

Luka chuckles wetly before pausing. “....Felix is probably right, you know. I’d reset for anyone if anyone died, but- losing a Miraculous is easier than losing a person. Even if it is worse in the long run.”

“We can steal the Dog back, we stole the Ram and Rooster back, and the Ox and Boar. But Ladybug was caught up on the other side of town and it would have taken one hell of a Miraculous Cure to revive someone. Tikki couldn’t even revive Kim from being stone on her own, she needed a potion. Placing life over Magic is probably the right call.

“But Look, I’m gonna tell you the same thing I tell Amber whenever she has problems about ‘keeping things up’ cuz god knows she’s got a million of those after what Mother did to her:”

We show the shortest of clip shows to Chloe’s voice dubbed over them. “It’s not gonna be easy to try and find a ‘normal’ in all of this shit, but you’re gonna know that this isn’t normal.” We cut to Felix slashing at a practice dummy with his rapier, going absolutely ballistic on it. He stops and leans forward, huffing for breath, and very visibly choking back tears. “It sucks. And it’s gonna suck for a long while because you’re gonna want beyond anything else to HAVE a normal again.” Bridget walks up and puts a hand on his shoulder and he leans into it. We pan backward a bit and see they’re not only back in the base but the rest of the Classic Team are huddled around a small table, discussing what to do next. “But eventually, it’ll be easier. You might not notice it at first, but there’s already something beneath your skin, pressing to the surface. The promise of tomorrow.” The Kwami are huddled together having their own discussion, Tikki clearly leading the charge and Plagg standing behind her nodding occasionally, all mirth gone once again.

“Soon enough, eventually, there will be a new normal, and it might not be a great normal, maybe things still will feel pretty bad, but here’s the trick to it-” we see Peacock Sabrina sitting on the ledge of a building, flipping her fan open and closed, and in a flash of yellow, Bellflower joins her, but her costume is suddenly lacking the white skirt, and instead has a pair of puffy pants in their place. “Once it becomes normal it can’t hurt anymore.” Amber hands Sabrina a pastry and they both start eating. “And then you can go back to moving again. You can MAKE yourself feel better after that. You get to control what the new normal is, but you have to let this one settle in first.”

And we’re back with Chloe and Luka. “I know that might not be super comforting, but… it’s the best I've got.”

“God, I love you.”

Chloe turns bright red and stammers out a nervous ‘love you too’ and Luka settles in a little more comfy beside her.

“I think I'm going to get some sleep… Be here when I wake up?”

“Yeah... Yeah, I will.”

HC List #3-Patronus’

So back in inktober i did a series based on this premise but got bored halfway through, so here’s that series in written form! You can find my inktober 2019 patronus drawings scattered through this tag here.

Rowan

Little owl. Association with wisdom and teaching, plus the big eyes similar to her glasses, plus little owls specifically were associated with Athena in Ancient Greece.

Ben

Lion.  They symbolize bravery and courage, and in the HP verse, Gryffindor. However, they also frequently get stereotyped as lovable cowards who get scared by everything. I think both depictions fit Ben–the cowardly one for when he was younger, and the braver one for when he gets older. I also slightly considered giving ~new Ben~ a lioness rather than a male one (since patronus’ can be any gender) as their more fierce and the hunters for the pack.

Penny

Golden retriever.  It took me forever to decide on a Patronus for Penny. I considered a lioness, a dolphin, and several different breeds of dog before settling on a golden retriever. I feel they have that same fun and extroverted energy, and that consistent trait among dogs about being loyal.

Merula

Honey badger.  I had a couple of options for Merula (including hedgehog and porcupine ahaha), and I’ve tentatively settled on the honey badger. They’re small, fierce, and ambitious, like her. And I feel she’d relate to that one video. You know, “honey badgers don’t care, honey badgers don’t give a shit” (or so she says….)

Bill

Mongoose. They’re associated with protection, independence, and fighting evil (or fighting snakes rather, but that seems synonymous in JKR’s head P: ), all of which also describes Bill. Plus, we all know that Arthur’s Patronus is a weasel, and though mongoose’s and weasel’s aren’t actually that closely related, they look like they are, so it’d be a connection to his family too.

Tonks

Canonically, a jackrabbit then a wolf.

Tulip

Red fox. I know a lot of people do a raven because of her surname meaning raven, and it does fit pretty well, but Tulip gives me more of a fox vibe. It has similar implications (clever tricksters who are perhaps bad omens) and it goes nicely with her hair : D

Barnaby

Ox. They’re big and strong and powerful, and kind of dumb, just like our favorite boy. I’ve also seen people mention bears, and I think that fits too.

Ismelda

Bat. She had almost as many options as Andre, but I settled on a bat. I wanted to give her something that has a bad reputation or sinister look but is actually quite fluffy, like her. Black cat was considered but color doesn’t exactly translate well to a patronus so: bat. Long considered the evil of the night, but actually quite cute.

Charlie

Dragon. Boy loves them too much for it to be literally anything else! I considered both the Welsh Green and Hebridean Black for the exact breed of dragon and ended up going with Hebridean Black. Mainly because of that sidequest where he ends up with a Hebridean Black scale. I think having an actual scale from that breed of dragon would lead to that being his Patronus form, because you know that would be a contender for his happiest memory. Charlie is banned from sending Patronus messages when he joins the Order of the Phoenix lol Too conspicuous a Patronus

Andre

Scarlet macaw.  He had the most options I wrote down, but I decided on a scarlet macaw. I considered peacock and bird-of-paradise and also dragonfly based on simple parameters. I wanted something flying (for quidditch) and something pretty and flashy (for fashion). I decided against the first two mainly because they are birds and fly, but they mainly stay near the ground while macaw’s fly through the canopy of the rain forest. It was tough to decide between dragonfly and macaw, but the macaw felt more Andre like and won out.

Jae

Raccoon.  They’re known thieves who scuttle about in dark alleyways. They’re also pretty clever even if they don’t look it. Sneaky boi for a sneaky boi.

Badeea

Heron.  Originally, I wanted to use an animal that’s known to use the stars to travel because that feels very Badeea, but I kept only getting the dung beetle and yeah. No thanks. So, I went with the heron! Beautiful and graceful, independent and intelligent. Plus, Badeea gives me both air and water vibes, which fits for a bird that lives in swamps/marshes.

Liz

Chameleon.  There’s a comparison to make between the chameleon’s eyes and Liz’s glasses, all big and round. And then, chameleons are considered odd and quirky–just like Liz.

Diego

Cheetah. Beautiful, but dangerous. “Like me,” Diego would probably say with a wink.

Talbott

Swan. I originally had it as an eagle, similar to his Animagus form because an eagle does fit him very well! It’s his Animagus form for a reason, and I didn’t think he seemed like the type of guy to have his Animagus form and Patronus be two totally different animals. But I was so wrong! Talbott shares a very similar backstory to Harry, down to both of them having an Animagus for a parent, and I think Talbott’s Patronus would manifest in the same way as Harry’s–he’d have a swan, representing his mother. Patronus’s can take the form of people you love, and he loved his parents very much. He’d probably take great comfort in seeing his mother before him.

Chiara

Butterflies.  Chiara is afraid of hurting someone in her werewolf form, and not exactly overjoyed about her lycanthropy in general, so in opposition to that, I’ve given her a butterfly as her Patronus. They’re gentle and beautiful, like her, and as about as far from a wolf as you can get.

Bea

Badger. I feel like her Patronus before and after the portrait would be different considering how big a life change that was, but she would only ever cast it after so I went with that one. But yes a badger. Of course, there’s the Hufflepuff reference, but badgers are usually portrayed as cranky loners with a cynical streak and a heart of gold. And I really feel that fits Bea.

Skye

Hummingbird. She seems like a kind of flighty person for most things, and hummingbirds are known for their colorful feathers, and she has quite colorful hair! Plus, hummingbirds are rather quick birds who can fly in unique ways, which I bet would go well with a Quidditch Chaser.

Murphy

African grey parrot. Both are chatterboxes, prone to repeating things over and over. And African grey’s are known for being one of the most intelligent bird species out there! Plus, can’t go wrong with a bird for a Quidditch lover.

Orion

African elephant. I....had trouble with him ahaha. Elephants represent wisdom though, and are very smart and community focused, so it seemed like a good fit for Orion.

Rakepick

Lioness, canonically. I don’t usually add her to these things, I just wanna gloat and say that one of my options for her back during inktober had been a lionness lol. I ended drawing a cat since I had picked lion for Ben and didn’t want to do doubles for the challenge, but I can give proof that I considered lioness for her!

(I’ve been watching Victorious lately so don’t judge me.)

Robbie stared at the baby bird in his hand. This was an extremely strange turn of events, even for Hollywood Arts, where they sometimes had to pretend to be panicking dolphins as an acting exercise.

The Secret Santa for senior year had been even more interesting than the previous years.

Robbie had gotten Jade, getting her a set of solid black titanium throwing knives. (She’d been so excited that she’d actually kissed him on the cheek.)

Jade had gotten Beck a trip to his favorite ice cream place, where she paid for anything he wanted.

Beck had gotten Andre a new electric guitar.

Andre had written Tori a song they could sing together, and they were planning to pitch it to a producer.

Tori had given Cat a bag of candy bigger than she was.

And Cat... Cat had given Robbie a baby bird.

“So...” Robbie said, “What kind of bird is this?”

“I dunno,” Cat admitted, shrugging, “My brother stole it off a truck. He said it’s some kind of parrot.”

Robbie really, really hoped she was kidding.

“Cool.”

There was a couple seconds of silence where Cat noticed that Robbie wasn’t jumping for joy like the others had when they got their presents, and her face fell.

“It’s okay if you don’t like it.”

Cat looked down, looking sad but not defensive or angry, which was surprising, with how badly the redhead usually took critisism.

“Is you don’t like it I can take it back,” she said quietly, “I thought you’d like it, but I really just want you to be happy, Robbie.”

“No,” Robbie said quickly, “No, no, no, I love it. It’s really cute. I just don’t want to scare it.”

“Yay!!!!”

In reality, the baby bird was pretty ugly, but Robbie knew all birds started out like that, so who knew? Maybe it was really a rainbow macaw or something awesome.

“What are you going to name her?” Cat asked.

Robbie shrugged, “I don’t know. I don’t even know what species she—wait, how do you know she’s a she?”

“The cage said she was,” Cat said matter-of-factly, “It said ‘Female Gray’ on it.”

“So she’s probably an African Gray, then,” Robbie guessed.

“I love African Grays!” Cat exclaimed, “My cousin had one when I was little! Then it died.”

“Um... okay, then.”

“So what are you going to name her?”

Robbie thought about it, “African Grays are supposed to be really smart and have a sense of humor and also they’re real pretty with their feather patterns, so...”

Smart, funny, and beautiful. There was one person who’s name popped into Robbie’s head first

“Cat,” Robbie said, “I’m naming her Cat.”

“Oh, yay!” Cat exclaimed, “That’s so cool!”

That girl was so cute when she got excited.

Robbie was more surprised than anyone when the redhead popped up on her tiptoes to kiss him on the cheek.

“Merry Christmas, Robbie!” she exclaimed before skipping away.

Robbie touched his cheek in surprise, embarrassed to say he was definitely blushing.

“Merry Christmas, Cat.”

Fantasy AU Lineup: Part 2

I return with more boys. Let’s do this. 

The Aides: 

Richard Kidder Meade/”Richie or “Kidder”: A winged man. He’s the most sensible and stable one. His wings look like a Sea Eagle’s. Unlike many others, he has a tail (covered in feathers. He considers it a pain). He joined the group after getting stranded on one of the islands from a storm and hurting his wing. Upon seeing a need for help, he decided to join the rebellion against the British Navy invading the islands. 

Robert Hanson Harrison/”Robbie” or “Harri”: Another, much smaller winged boy. He cannot hold out during storms. He has the wings of a Military Macaw and isn’t suited for spying, flying long distances, or flying in rough weather. He’s very good at delivering messages and has an amazing memory. Full rainbow (he’s gay). He saves the feathers he loses and adds them to clothes or uses them as quills. He joined later than many of the other aides after literally passing out of exhaustion on the ship from trying to fly through a storm from the British. 

John Fitzgerald/”Fitz” or “Johnny”: Definitely not a winged boy. He’s a shapeshifter, though so he can change however he likes. He has a big crush on Tench. He joined everyone when he was trying to spy on them, but seeing their cause and honesty and courage, he admitted himself and Washington accepted him to the team. 

Tench Tilghman: He was the one that kissed Fitz first and he likes to remind people of that. He’s a pretty normal human, but wickedly smart (good friends with Tallmadge and Hale) and loves books and to write. He’s so used to writing, his hand almost never cramps. What makes him so special then? He can memorize things and never forget them. It’s been proven. He once received an anonymous love message from someone and submitted it to memory before hiding it. He copies every letter he sends just in case, though. 

James McHenry: The doctor. Nobody knows how he does exactly what he does, but he can heal you up better than anyone else. He has helped many of the aides himself when they’ve broken a bone or something. Due to Madison and Alexander’s tendencies to get sick, he’s kept with the aides as an honorary one, and in his free time, he bonds with his ‘brothers’. 

 The Queen’s Rangers: A pod of Killer Whale (Orca) mermaids. They’re allies with Washington’s fleet, though their leader takes orders from no one. They have a bad habit of sinking ships and drowning men before they’re supposed to. They wear special masks and armor, though it’s unclear why. Alex isn’t exactly a fan of them. 

Captain John Graves Simcoe: Captain of the Queen’s Rangers. A merman. He happens to have been assigned to this job by Major John Andre, who is a general that got injured during a battle and forced to stay on one of the islands they’re protecting. He started dating a lovely human man named Major Edmund Hewlett after “successfully failing” to keep prisoners alive, in his own words. He finds the shorter man endearing, even when he’s being scolded. Hewlett hates how ruthless he is, but Simcoe happens to have multiple mental illnesses and needs help, which Hewlett and the Rangers happily provide. 

Major Naval Captain Edmund Hewlett: Once a British Captain, then his boat was sunk by the Rangers under the command of Robert Rogers (who disappeared soon thereafter). After being interrogated by the Continental Navy (they call themselves), Hewlett learned their cause and joined it. He was more than helpful, having experience, but he is definitely not experienced in the fantasy side of things, which the British lack. He loves Simcoe with all his heart. 

Major Naval Captain John Andre: He’s a winged man in love with a mermaid named Peggy Shippen. John got injured during a battle and returned to one of the larger islands, where he vowed his love to Peggy, who gave up her tail to be with him. Unfortunately, British Captain Benedict Arnold is out to get her instead. Andre awaits the day he can go fight him face to face again.

Venezuelan classical musicians play for largest orchestra record

Sunset in Caracas was accompanied by the sound of classical music on Sunday as thousands of Venezuelan musicians performed Tchaikovsky's 'Marche Salve' to set the record for "the world's largest orchestra".

Flanked by mountains, the courtyard of the Venezuelan Military Academy hosted around 12,000 classical musicians looking to make their way into the Guinness Book of World Records.

"If you break a string, don't stop. If you lose the score, go on by heart, but don't stop," conductor Andres David Ascanio, 34, said before the performance.

The 12-minute piece was observed by around 260 auditors from KPMG, charged with ensuring each musician complied with the rules to set a new record, which include not sharing instruments and playing for at least five minutes during the score.

Guinness will announce in the next 10 days whether Venezuela has outflanked a 2019 Russian orchestra of 8,097 musicians as the world's largest.

The performers were brought together by Venezuela's publicly funded 'El Sistema' program, which was founded in 1975 and has since provided classical music training to thousands of working-class children.

Gustavo Dudamel, the music director of the Paris Opera and the Los Angeles Philharmonic, is one of its most notable alumni.

On Saturday, macaws flew overhead as the young musicians in white t-shirts followed Ascano's instructions displayed on a large screen.

"It's the first time in my life that I have experienced seeing the conductor on a screen, but... we adapted quite well," said violinist Ernesto Laguna, 21, who traveled nearly 450 kilometers from the western city of Coro.

The percussion came in with booming cymbals during the dynamic central section of Tchaikovsky's 1876 work, which mixes Slavic, folkloric and nationalistic elements.

When the score was finished, many of the musicians released their emotions by raising their instruments to the sky.
