A wasted opportunity. You have to go thru 45 minutes of Hallmark-level blandness before things get interesting and the "hidden face", the dark side, finally starts to unravel. But by that moment, every character is trapped in a one dimensional series of clichés, precluding any interesting development: hence, the story can barely get by inertia to its obvious finale, or lack thereof.
