Chapter Twenty-Five
good•bye
e.
used to express good wishes when parting or at the end of a conversation.
But where is the "good" in "goodbye"? What can possibly be good about leaving the man you love for months, unable to see, feel, smell, and bug Matthew for approximately 130 days.
Meet me at the park at 2.
You smile at Matthew's text, wondering what type of surprise he has for you. Your flight leaves at 6 today, and it's currently 1:42.
You're already dressed, sort of, in a white crop top and black jeans, so you throw on a light purple cardigan and slip into your white high top converse and head out of your door. Everything is packed except a few essentials you left out in case you need them for the rest of the day.
I'm at the park. Where are you?
You text.
"Turn around loser," Matthew's voice says and you laugh, turning to face him.
"Why hello to you too."
"Hi, beautiful." He pulls you in for a kiss.
"So why are we here?"
"We're going to take a walk and imprint this place on your brain so you don't forget the three dates we've had here."
"Matthew, I'm going for a few months, not ten years."
"I know. I needed an excuse to take you to the park. It's so much prettier at sunset, but we don't have that luxury."
You sigh softly and grab his hand, walking along the trail. "You're cute."
"I am aren't I?" Matthew smiles.
"Humble too!" You laugh.
"I'm the whole package," he jokes.
"You really are," you smile up at him.
He squeezes your hand. "So I think I deserve a hot picture of you in your hotel shower when you get to London."
"And you've ruined it."
"I'm kidding," he smiles, kissing your temple.
Kids playing and trees standing tall, providing shade pass by your line of vision as you two continue to walk. "So you know how Spencer took Delilah to the lake to get a break from work?"
You nod, a grin forming on your lips. "Are you taking me to the lake?"
"Yeahh. There's this nice, not entirely gross lake outside of the city."
He leads you to your car since he took a cab here. He gives you the directions and you drive there. By the time you're there, it's 3pm.
When you get out of the car, you're greeted with his hand in yours again.
"It's nice and quiet out here," you smile up at Matthew.
"Yeah, I used to come out here with some friends whenever I was in LA." Matthew doesn't live in California, but he's practically here all the time. He still lives in Nevada, but stays in LA when filming here. Which is why he's always at your place instead of you going to his.
You pick up a rock and throw it into the water, watching it skip a few times.
"Show off."
"What, you can't skip rocks?"
He picks up one for himself and throws it. It plops in immediately. You laugh.
"We're done, you're mean."
"Oh yeah? Here I'll show you." You grab a rock and place it in his hand, standing behind him ready to guide his wrist.
"It's not about throwing it, babe. You've got to flick your wrist and gently release."
He does as he's directed and it skips once.
"Hey, there ya go!"
"I'd rather throw something else in the water."
"Like what?"
He starts toward you and you run. "No sir! You cannot."
"But I can." He grabs you by wrapping his arms around your torso and runs into the water with you.
"Now i'll have to shower before the flight!"
"Y/n, live a little."
You hit his arm and he pouts. "You're fine."
He swims around a bit, clothes slowly him down. He stands up and offers his arms out to you, doing grabby hands.
"I can't reach over there."
"What, they don't have pools in Pennsylvania? You seem too prissy for the lakes."
You roll your eyes. "You're an ass." You swim over to him, having to keep your legs kicking.
He uses his hands to move some hair out of your face. "You love my ass."
"Maybe."
He smiles and pulls you closer. You swim around for a bit.
"We can get out, it's sort of cold. I have a jacket in the back seat."
You nod, following him out of the lake. He grabs the jacket and wraps it around you. You sit down, him sitting slightly behind you and throwing an arm over your shoulders. "Okay it wasn't horrible."
"I know," he smiles.
As you start to dry off, you know you need to leave soon. You have about two hours and twenty minutes until your flight leaves.
Matthew plays with your hair. "I like the little curlies." He twirls your waves in his hand.
A grin forms on your face. "You're cute."
"You're cute," he kisses your temple. "C'mon, darling, let's get you cleaned up." He stands up, helping you up afterwards.
He drives you back to your apartment and waits on the couch as you get into the shower. The smell of your shampoo, conditioner, body wash, and soaps fill your senses as you clean the lake water off of your body.
"Hey I have a question?" Matthew comes into the bathroom. "Can I join you really quick, I'm leaving for Vegas today and I don't want to be all lakey in the car for 4 hours."
You giggle. "Yes of course." You hear him move around a bit before he steps in under the water. You're almost done, but don't mind staying in longer.
He washes his wavy brown locks, not caring that he'll smell like girly shampoo. He's done with his hair quickly.
"Here let me," you say and grab your body wash. "You're going to smell so good with pink blossom!"
He chuckles as you start to wash his shoulders, moving the luffa in circles. The bubbles form on his body. You go to his chest, then his back, then his tummy, the back of his legs. You're practically on your knees as you wash the front of his legs. You look up at him with an evil smile and lick the tip of his length.
"Y/n," he breathes. You stand back up to rinse him off. "You're evil."
"I know," you shrug and give him a kiss. "Just think it'll be so much worse teasing from over 5,000 miles away."
"I don't doubt it," he pulls you in and kisses you.
You turn the water off, stepping out and grabbing two towels. You hand one to him and as he tries off, you change clothes in your room. You change into black joggers, a red crop top, and a light jacket over it. You slip on your black converse and leave your white ones to dry in the bathroom. While Matthew changes into a pair of clothes he'd left over, you back up every essential you needed after adding product to your hair.
Now that you're entirely packed, it feels more real. You meet Matthew on the couch, knowing you have to leave for the airport in twenty minutes.
You've already said your goodbyes to all of your friends, and also your family on the phone. You obviously saved Matthew for last.
You call an uber to take you to the airport, she's going to drop Matthew off at the hotel afterwards. He helps you carry your things to the uber.
You sit in the back, holding hands, as she drives to the airport. You're arriving about thirty minutes earlier than the flight.
"Here we are," she says, parking the car.
You try to hand her money, and Matthew says he's got it. He gets out to help you with your bags. You wrap your arms around him immediately after setting your bags down. You feel tears pricking at your eyes. A few cameras are filming and taking pictures, but you don't care.
He hugs you tightly, kissing the top of your head. "So this is it," he pulls away.
"Yep," you sigh.
"Call me when you land, okay? I don't care what time it is."
You nod, wiping away a tear.
"I love you."
"I love you, Matthew."
He presses his lips to yours, and the kiss seems like it was only a second, but it was definitely more. You trail your hand down his arm then to his hand snd squeeze it as you pick up your bags.
"Don't say goodbye. Say see you later."
"See you later, Y/n."
"See you later."
And with that, you wheel your suitcase and carry your carry on into the doors of the airport. You look back for a second before going to check in.
_____
You're seated in a window seat, looking out at the clouds around you. The flight will be over 11 hours which you're sure as hell not excited for. You listen to an audio book as you lean your head against the seat.
Your family decided they would pay your apartment's rent while you're gone, and you could pay them back. When you return to California, your lease will be almost up anyway.
About six hours into the flight the little girl next to you taps your leg. "Hi."
You laugh softly. "Hello."
"Do you gotta boyfriend? I got a boyfriend. His name is Benjamin. I call him Benji."
You smile, chuckling. "Well, I'm happy for you. I do have a boyfriend, yes."
"Do you lovvveeeee him?"
"I do," you smile.
"I love Benji even though he's a whole five months younger."
"Five months isn't so bad. But remember, boys mature slowly than girls, so he may be a pain."
She looks a bit confused but giggles.
"Sorry, she's talkative," her mom says.
"It's okay," you smile and lean your head back down.
Images of Matthew swirl in your head as you get closer to landing. And by the time you actually do, it's 1pm in London, but your body still thinks it's 7am.
You wake up slowly as the little girl nudges you with her elbow. You yawn big and and rub your eyes, taking out your earbuds.
It's 1pm, what the fuck.
You text Matthew. He's definitely still asleep right now.
You get off the plane and by the time you're settled into your hotel, which the producers paid for, it's 3pm.
Haha. Jet lag bites. Good morning- afternoon. I love you.
I love you too. I'm going to take a nap.
The cool England air hits you as you stand, holding your arm out to hail a taxi. One finally pulls over and picks you up. You give him the address of the hotel, and he starts the drive.
You look out of the window, watching buildings and people fly past you. It's weird to be on the left side of the back seat and not be behind the driver.
"You new to the city?" The guy asks, looking in the mirror to see you watching the city pass your vision. His accent is pretty strong.
"Yes," you chuckle slightly. "Is it that obvious?"
"Well with the thick American accent and the wandering eyes of a tourist, yes."
You smile, feeling slightly embarrassed. "I've never been outside of the States before, so this is a whole new planet for me."
"I hope it finds you well," he said, pulling into the parking lot of the hotel.
"Thank you," you smile, "I haven't had the chance to convert my cash yet."
"That's okay, I can do it."
You pay the taxi driver and get you and your things out of the car. You walk into the doors of the hotel.
"Hi, I have a room reserved already."
"Name?"
"Y/n Y/L/N. It should be paid for under the name of Jason Kane."
"Ah yes, you are reserved for four months in room 7b." The desk lady hands you your key.
"Thank you."
"Have a nice stay, I'll be here every day 8am to 10pm if you need anything, and James is our overnight clerk."
You nod your head and wheel your suitcase to the elevator.
"Hi," a woman in the elevator says as you step in.
"Hi," you smile.
"First time here?" she asks with a pretty British accent. Her blonde hair flows down to the middle of her back, soft curls intertwining with one another.
"Damn, I really make it obvious don't I?"
She laughs softly. "We Brits know how to sniff out newbies."
The elevator stops on the second floor of rooms (really the third floor), and it opens for you. "Well, this is me."
"See you around, American."
You smile, shaking your head and go to the seventh room. You swipe the keycard under the door handle and it unlocks.
The executive producer, Jason really knows how to pick hotels. The room is pretty spacious. The queen size bed with beige bedding sits in the middle of the room, night stands on either side. There's a white, two cushioned couch up against the wall furthest from the door and a wood dresser across from the bed stained dark brown with a tv on top of it. A small closet is next to the dresser, and on the other side a counter with a coffee pot and sugar packets. The restroom door is adjacent from the entrance and exit door. The counter is roomy, the sink resting in the middle. There's a few skin care items next to the soap. The shower is a walk in, the sliding glass door blurry and barely see through.
You begin to unpack, folding your clothes neatly into the dresser and hanging up the fancier ones in the closet. You put away all of your toiletries into the bathroom then plop on the bed after spraying a good coat of Lysol.
Tomorrow morning, you're to meet the cast and crew and have a table read for about an hour. Excitement and hits of nerves flutter in your stomach as you stare up at the ceiling. This will be your life until the beginning of July.
The sun begins to fade outside, the light inside your room dimming. A rumble sounds from the clouds above, rain beginning to drizzle, hitting against the window creating soft pounding sounds.
As your eyes begin to grow heavy, you're hit with a sudden realization that you'll have to sleep alone for some time. A semi harsh wave of loneliness hits you as the world around you fades into dreams.

Siem Reap, Cambodia
Siem Reap, Cambodia
I’ve returned from a 90-day trip around the globe to every time zone on the planet. My mission is world peace through cultural exchange.
In this episode, the FAQ is: How can I stay hydrated when it’s humid and hot?
.
Today’s Destination is Siem Reap, Cambodia
Today’s Mistake- Taking the long way instead of a more direct flight.
Travel Advice: Practice Google Maps on foot before you leave on your trip
FAQ: How can I stay hydrated?
From my personal experience, I needed help with this in Southeast Asia. The climate was so different from Southern California, where I live. I had to adjust my body to these climate conditions. I had to be very aware of my intake of liquids and not drink much if any, caffeine.
I am not a medical doctor, but here’s what I learned. Rest during the day. Swim if you can. Keep your body cool and do it early in the morning if you must go out.
I had to respect my kidneys as they filtered all of this water.
I had to monitor the color of my urine to try to keep it clear in color.
  Today’s destination: Siem Reap, Cambodia
Siem Reap, a resort town in northwestern Cambodia, is the gateway to the ruins of Angkor, the seat of the Khmer kingdom from the 9th–15th centuries. Angkor’s vast complex of intricate stone buildings includes preserved Angkor Wat, the main temple pictured on Cambodia’s flag. Giant, mysterious faces are carved into the Bayon Temple at Angkor Thom.
The capital is Phnom Penh. Listen for the earlier episode on that city.
I arrived by bus and immediately rode to the Backpacker’s Chill Hostel. My tuk-tuk driver was named Nuk, and he was reliable. He brought me to all of the places I needed to see. Ask for him if you go there because he could use the business.
What are some of the things that I did? The first was the temple, Angkor Wat. I went at sunrise, meaning I had to get the ticket first. So, he knew where to get the ticket and how to navigate the complicated process, making it easy.
Then we drove to the temples, which will take a full day. It’s so hot, you should go early. It was raining, but still very humid. Bring an umbrella for the sun. Limit your outdoor activities besides swimming.
Angkor Wat reminded me of Disney in some ways, but this was REAL. It was from 1000 years ago. The temple is huge and not crowded like Disneyland.

Dungeon: The Mournhold of Igryr Ironmaul
You can’t take it with you, but you can say around to sure no one else tries the same.
Adventure Hooks:
While haggling with a traveling merchant, the party has finds an old scrollcase that has a hidden compartment overlooked by the seller and perhaps a few previous owners. The map seems to lead up into the mountains, depicting some kind of long abandoned dwarven fortress. Just what they could be guarding up here no one knows, but who could possibly resist such a temptation? If you were looking to start the party off on something simple, this lucky break could be an excellent first adventure, gathering together prospective partymembers and traveling through increasingly harsh wilderness on their way to the vault.
Along their way, the party discovers a snow covered cairn with a finely made sword used as  a gravemarker. Do they disturb the dead for the sake of wealth? ( that’s what they were doing anyway). If the party does take the sword, it may serve as their very first magical weapon, a steadfast edge against the many challenges they will face, at least until  several levels later when a frostbitten revenant begins to stalk them for the sword. The undead is seemingly indestructible and convinced the party are its treacherous traveling companions, having left it for dead in the cold winter snows. Now their only hope of defeating this inexorable pursuer is to find the lost adventuring party, or perhaps pilgrimage to a shrine of Tyr and seek a blessing.
Supplies are limited while climbing the mountain and exploring the dwarven ruin, so the party will need to be purposeful of where they search. Multiple trips up and down may be required, so it may be wise to seek out the nearest mountain settlement and get yourselves on good terms with the locals.
Setup: Many cultures employ necropoli, “cities of the dead” to store the remains of their ancestors, creating temple complexes that serve the needs of both sacred and practical attendants.  Mournholds hold a similar place in dwarven culture, save that they are fortresses for the honored dead, places where those who have served the clan or crown may be rallied from beyond the vale of death for some great puprpose.
Most of those not raised as part of a dwarven clan would easily mistake a Mournhold for just another dungeon, full of traps and doom foretelling inscriptions, which is exactly the situation the party has fallen into, their luck and untempered greed  landing them in the central treasure valult.
Ghostly dwarven warriors phase through the walls, locking blades with the alert warriors or sinking axes into the backs of the unsuspecting. These ghosts were called from their eternal rest to defend the bounty of their ancient kin. Even as our heroes retaliate,  spirit warriors seem endless, and the party must now make a fighting retreat, either surrendering their loot or weighing themselves down with ill gotten goods
Challenges & Complications:
The passageways down to the treasure vaults are a convoluted labyrinth, requiring an advanced skill check to navigate through without getting lost or falling into some kind of trap. On the way back out, with a surging tide of ghosts behind them, the party may need to retrace their steps but this time under much more pressure. What’s worse, the spectral guardians are unhindered by the winding walls, meaning their pursuit is inevitable.
The crumbling bridge the party edged across earlier in their adventure will not hold the weight of  an entire fleeing party, to say nothing of the added bulk of two people hauling a treasure chest. One person would likely make it, slowly dragging their loot as the rest of the party defended the bridge, but this becomes a matter of trust
As it turns out, the entrance to the lower dwarven halls, a decent down a vertical pit turns out to be the the most difficult challenge the party must face in their flight. How to get all the treasure up the rope before the guardians close in on them.  The ruin did contain a secret entrance that could be walked out of, concealed behind a nearby waterfall.. But that would have required the party to do its due diligence in scouting.
By kin-rite, the dwarven ancestors are unable to harm anyone who has not touched their treasure. This secret can be discovered if the party successfully explores a dilapidated library within the ruin.

NEST OF OURS ☁︎ keigo takami
Tumblr media
GENRE ➺ fluff, drabble
SYNOPSIS ➺ life between an early bird and a night owl
AUTHOR'S NOTE ➺ i honestly didn't edit after writing so i'm crossing my fingers so it comes out decent
Tumblr media
The sun cut through the gaps in the curtains, breaking between Keigo's feathers, and shining on your face. A lovely gold slanted across your nose would have been welcomed on a normal day, but not on the morning after a 48-hour shift.
Saying you were exhausted felt like an understatement. Your limbs felt like led, your eyes could barely focus, and the tremor of a headache was beginning to thrum on your temples, threatening to trip you up if you didn't get a wink of sleep.
You were all too thankful that Keigo was home on time. Practically flinging yourself at him, you were out like a light. His wings tucking you securely against his frame for the rest of the night.
It was perfect. Husband and wife cocooned beneath the covers trying to catch up on missed sleep... And then the sun had to go ruin it. Oh, fuck you, you blazing epicenter of the solar system!
As much as you tried to convince yourself to go to back sleep (even flipping over to further immerse yourself in your winged lover), you felt the sinews of sleep beginning to slip away until nothing but deep dissatisfaction was left behind.
"For fuck's sake," you cursed. Barely above a whisper. Already tired of the world's cruel shenanigans this early in the day.
You slowly came to the realization that Keigo was awake. The arm draped over your waist tightened to fasten you against him was evidence of it. Lightly nuzzling his chin onto the top of your head before chasing it with a kiss. "'Morning, lovebird." His greeting was lilted in a drowse. Raspier than usual and sleepy, as expected. But it was Keigo, and the bare minimum made your mind blank as if it was the first time you'd woken up in his embrace.
As always, he placated your dislike for the morning with a close-lipped smile. Too aware of how treacherous morning breath could be. That didn't stop him from placing a chaste kiss on your pouted lips. Returning to resting his head above yours as you nudged your nose against the juncture connecting his neck and shoulder
"Morning, lovebug." You finally replied after a moment of quiet. Your tone more tender with the sun's previous offense leaving your mind.
As much as you enjoyed the cuddles, you knew he'd get antsy sooner or later. Itching to take a morning flight as he usually did. A habit he kept up even after marrying you. It was good to keep himself fit and start off his day. Heaven knew the guy would stay in bed if he could help it.
And as you, predicted, his wings began to shift. Miniscule movements that made it clear that he was trying to stretch them without hassling you. To his luck, you sat up — groggy, but awake enough to rub the sleep out of your eyes. Freeing the wing that somehow got caught beneath the pair of you in the night.
His arms stretched as his feathers did, rattling some of the furniture on the bedside table. Making enough ruckus to make you sit up, alert, but not enough for anything to actually topple over. After all, Keigo grew accustomed to being careful even if it was daylight. A little adjustment he made after moving in with you.
And as you foretold, one of them fell over your frame. Flexing to pull you back to his side for a much-needed hug. His arms giving you a quick squeeze before he pulled away and stood. Heading for the closet to fetch a pair of jackets. One for you and one for him.
“Come on, pretty girl. Time to get some air.” He encouraged. Pulling you up by the arms as soon as they were through the sleeves of your — his — jacket.
“‘S too early though,” you rebutted, rubbing your eyes. Not believing the morning came so quickly.
“The earlier the better. Then we have the whole day to do other things — or each other. Whichever you prefer — ow! Okay, kidding! If you ever change your mind though . . .”
A smile pulled at your lips, smacking his arm with the very little strength you had at this time. “Just get me my slippers, please.”
“My pleasure,” He quipped. Acting too happy to be fetching your slippers — slippers that matched his, thank you very much. It was one of those cheesy his and hers pairs you bought for cheap, but he treasured them because they were the first purchase you made as a married couple.
Before long, you found yourself outside, on the balcony. Clutching the jacket closer and waddling as close as you could to Keigo to steal warmth before he took off. Vermilion encompassed most of your vision, the fiery hue of his feathers a gentle reminder that the past few years had been true after all — and the rocking chair on the balcony was yours and yours only.
“I’ll be back in a few minutes.” He promised again as if he didn’t every morning. Turning around to cup your cheeks and place a tender kiss on your forehead, nose, and lips in order. Wings stretching to the heavens before he perched on the railings and took off. Leaving wisps of red behind.
Your smile stayed plastered on your face. Your senses waking up slowly as the sun rose higher and the breeze got warmer. You sat in the rocking chair, overlooking the view of the city and tracing the silhouette of your beloved hero with nothing but a full heart making you eager to carry on with your day. The tiresome events of yesterday melding into ‘just another bad day’ as Keigo returned. Hair wind-swept yet grin unrelenting. You couldn’t help but smile back. What a beautiful sight.

The Whole Time || A. Hotchner x Fem!Reader
It’s @ssahotchswife ‘s soft hotch saturday again bitches. u know the drill.
Summary: Aaron decides to make some happier memories in New York
Contains: fluff, alcohol consumption, law-breaking but not the kind anyone cares about, canon-typical descriptions of kidnapping, author taking creative liberties with the geography of New York City
word count: 1.7k
You let out a breath you didn’t realize you were holding when you watch the child you’d saved from an attempted kidnapping rush into his mother’s waiting arms. The most recent case had brought the team to New York City, for a kidnapping that was ultimately linked to a trafficking ring. You’d recovered a dozen kids of all ages, but Charlotte, the child you’d been called on the case for originally, was finally with her parents again, and you could rest, and rest easy, knowing that you’d saved them.
Spencer and JJ were already taking apart the team’s whiteboard in the conference room. Aaron was off making a call, and you spotted Derek and Emily fussing with the coffee pot in the NYPD’s break room. You started clearing off the table, preparing for your swift exit, and hopefully a night at home with Aaron and Jack.
“Jet leaves tomorrow at 8AM.” Aaron announces when he enters the conference room.
“We’re not leaving this afternoon?” JJ asked.
“We had to shut the airports down to stop the unsubs. LaGuardia is a mess trying to get all of today’s rescheduled flights out, and it seemed better to give you all a day in the city than to sit on the tarmac for eight hours. But if you want me to call them back--”
“Ah, ah, I think what JJ meant to say is first round on her tonight.” Morgan corrected and the team let out a laugh.
“Well, I for one, am overdue for some self care in the form of a little blue box.” Emily said, already pulling up walking directions to Tiffany’s.
“Oh, can we go to Saks, too!” JJ asked, peering over Emily’s shoulder.
You crossed the room to slide beside Aaron. The team knew that you were together, but for professionalism’s sake, you tried to make sure any local teams you worked with couldn’t tell, which meant you had to be very careful about your PDA.
“So… a day in New York, huh?” You looked up at him, and he smiled at you.
“I think I’m just gonna take some time and work on my report so it’s done when we get in tomorrow. You should go shopping with the girls.” He tells you, and you squint up at him.
“You okay?” You asked.
“Yeah,” he assures you with a little nod and a quirk of his brow that doesn’t leave you feeling very assured at all.
“I know New York isn’t your favorite place. You don’t have a lot of happy memories here,” you understated.
“Well, today’s not all that bad.” He winks at you. “Go shop. Don’t think I didn’t notice that you used the money your parents sent you for your birthday on Jack.” He narrows his eyes at you.
“It’s all the same money once it gets into the account, babe. I don’t feel deprived of anything. Don’t think I didn’t notice that you went way overboard with my presents this year.” You remind him with a smirk.
“No such thing,” he said, taking a risk and pressing a quick kiss to the top of your head. The case was done now, anyways. “Have fun with the girls. I’ll be waiting for you when you get back. You’d better have more bags than you can carry.”
“You’re ridiculous.” You rolled your eyes at him playfully as he gave you a gentle shove towards JJ and Emily. You took a couple steps over to where they were planning the rest of their afternoon. “Mind if I crash?” You asked.
“We were planning on stealing you away from Hotch regardless of whether or not you asked, so this seems easier,” Emily tells you and you laugh.
“I need coffee before we do anything. Real, not-police-station coffee.” JJ moans out, and you drag her out the door in the direction of the nearest Starbucks.
You’re headed back to the hotel after some shopping when Emily mentions a detour through Central Park. The air is warm, and contrary to Aaron’s orders, your bags aren’t all that heavy, so you’re happy to oblige her. You’re distracted, following JJ’s lead as you breathe in the smell of the flowers and appreciate the life of the city, the simplicity of all these people who have no clue about the international kidnapping scheme you and your team had taken down not even four hours ago. Emily and JJ come to a stop and you look between them. They gesture to a tree not far off from your path. Aaron’s underneath it, a blanket beneath him and a picnic basket on the ground beside him. He stands up and makes his way towards you.
“Did you two know about this?’ You ask, looking back and forth between Emily and JJ, betrayed but not at all angry.
“He texted us and asked if we could covertly get you here, but other than that we knew nothing.” JJ assured you. You’re about to pressure Emily for more answers, but Aaron makes his way to you.
“Hi angel,” He tells you, leaning in to kiss your cheek.
“Hi.” You smile at him. “When did you have time to do all of this? You said you were working on your report.”
He shrugged. “I lied. If you want to yell at me, I’ll allow it, but let’s not make Emily and JJ watch.” He teases.
You’d forgotten that they were even there. They both gave you hugs goodbye before taking off, and Aaron took your hand in his to lead you back to the blanket he’d set up on a slight hill, overlooking a bit of the park.
“I figured it was time to make some happy memories in the city.” He tells you, beckoning you to sit. You do, scooting your way next to him so that your thighs were touching. He leans forward for the basket and procures a chilled bottle of white wine and a small package of red solo cups.
“Aaron Hotchner, are you drinking in public?” You asked incredulously.
“I figure the NYPD’ll give us a pass, just this once.” He says, uncorking the bottle and pouring modest glasses into two cups for you both.
You raised your glass to his. “To happier memories.”
He connected his cup to your own but leaned in to kiss you before you could take a sip. “I love you,” he reminds you between kisses, and you smile. To anyone else in the park, especially from a distance, you two must have looked like crazy twenty-somethings freshly in love. Sometimes you felt like that, too.
He pulls away from you, after a moment. “I love you.” You say, taking your free hand and wrapping it around Aaron’s arm, pulling him in and resting your head on his shoulder.
He places a hand on your thigh and turns his head to leave a kiss on top of yours. “We don’t do this enough.”
“No amount of time with you could ever be enough,” you concur. “But we get out as often as we can. We’re busy, Aaron, and we have a son.”
His heart warmed when you referred to Jack as your own-- it wasn’t the first time you’d done it, not by a long shot, and he’d known even before you started calling him yours that you’d risk life and limb for him. So why hadn’t he asked you yet? Why hadn’t he pulled the ring out of his sock drawer and made it official?
“A son who I see you’ve spoiled, when I specifically told you to go shopping for yourself.” He teased you, changing the subject in his own brain and gesturing to the FAO Schwarz bag in your collection.
“It’s just a couple comic books, Aaron. It’s reading material, it hardly counts as a gift.” You defended, knowing there was no need.
“Sure,” He chuckles at you, concealing his grin with a sip of wine.
He pulls a small plate of cut fruit out of the basket, and you talk and eat and giggle and settle in to each other to watch the sunset. He’s leaning back against the tree, his legs spread so you can lean against his chest and sit between them, his arms wrapped around you from behind. The setting sun has allowed a slight chill to settle into the air, but the weight of his body wrapped around yours keeps you warm.
“Aaron?” You ask, not daring to tear your eyes away from the cascading pinks and purples of the sky in front of you.
“Hm?” He asks.
“Do you think you’d want more?” You ask, internally cringing at your own vulnerability, hoping you hadn’t ruined an otherwise perfect evening.
“More wine?” He asked, unwrapping a hand from you to look for his cup.
You let out a nervous little laugh. “No, hon. I, uh. I meant more kids. Sorry, didn’t mean to spring that on you, it was just on my mind. You don’t have to answer.”
“Only if they’re yours,” he replies, and you’re confused.
“Huh?” You ask.
“I only want more kids if they’re yours.” He reiterates, craning to look at you a little. “Isn’t it obvious?” He asked.
“Well, you know, it doesn’t hurt to hear, regardless.” You responded, a little breathless. You turned to face him.
“Silly girl,” He smiled at you. “I only want you. I want you and our future together, and our babies, if we are to have any, and I want to keep making you smile for the rest of my life. And if I have that, I’ll be happy.” He states simply, as if it were the easiest thing in the world, as if he’d known it all along. He suspects that deep down, he has.
“Sounds like a pretty good life you’ve dreamed up for yourself, there.” You smile at him, just happy to be included.
“Yeah, I think so.” He agrees, giving you a squeeze.
“You know, you’re gonna have to marry me before I let you knock me up,” you inform him with a laugh.
“Working on it,” He tells you, and you roll your eyes.
“Sure you are,” you counter, and he kisses your temple.
“It’s coming when you least expect it. Like an action movie. You’d better watch out.” He whispers against you, and you laugh, the sound vibrating through your chest and warming him from the inside out.
“You’re missing the sunset, silly boy.” You reminded him.
He’d been looking at you the whole time, anyways.

The six kingdoms in the ori children Au
Guess who just had a spontaneous burst of interest in this Au.
Anyway here's some lore for you all about the six kingdoms of the Au. Be warned that it's quite long and I had to edit this twice so there might be grammar mistakes
I will also be switching ori children with "you" and "Skykids" sometimes. (And I realised it after the second edit and refused to change it.)
There are 6 main kingdoms in this world that replaces the 6 realm gates in home.
Each kingdom lives in harmony, the lands stretching far and wide where wishpers of fantastical creatures and brave heroes echo through the world.
Traveling between the kingdoms works similary to our original realm. You go back home through meditation and you can travel through all 6 kingdoms if you know the way. But it takes a lot longer because the kingdoms are much bigger than the realms, which makes Home more scarce with skykids and a sort of haven for weary travelers.
Passing through a gate causes a skykid to fall asleep and then awaken in the kingdom, unlike the portals in the old realms where skykids are awake during all of them. Sometimes when an adventurer finds ruins of a forgotten building, they would sometimes stumble upon a sleeping ori child or witness a shooting star from the sky actually landing on some ruins.
There are times when entering a portal "malfunctions" and a skykid ends up in a whole other kingdom (Which I will discuss at the end of this post)
Although each kingdom is (currently) peaceful with each other, it's good to know what each one beholds. I will be discussing both the pros and the cons of each kingdom.
Melinka kingdom
A kingdom that replaces the isle of dawn gate. This kingdom is located in the Agbo desert. The scorching sun can be overwhelming and depending if your version of skykids can feel heat, unbearable. The monsters that lurk in this place are also nothing to scoff at and it can be dangerous if an ori child is left on their own.
Despite the unpleasant environment, this kingdom is probably the most favoured by the ori children for it's ruins buried in the sands that no one enters. When one travels the desert at sunset or sunrise, you can see flecks of colours flying through the clouds, enveloping the soft, warm coloured clouds with their dances of flight. The towns and cities are more closer to the royal capital and the kingdom is currently ruled by a king that welcomes the ori children and their fantastic ways of shaping clouds.
When you enter this kingdom, you will awaken in a temple of a forgotten culture. The engravings tell tales of legends long forgotten and the sand has made it's way home in the temple.
Kaplam Kingdom
A kingdom that replaces the daylight prairie gate. This kingdom sits on the edge of the sea and the rest of it is scattered across as islands. The vast blue oceans calls for expiditions and trades. It's perhaps the only place that's populated almost completely by people.
Although the blue skies and soft sandy beaches look tempting, don't be fooled when storms roll in and the sea monsters that wait for you to fall in the waters. Many ori children are lost to the sea when they foolishly try to fly across the sea when the storm is at it's peak. Not to mention the stares you would get as a moth on the main island where the royal capital is nestled upon, and how many sailors and adventurers would chase you away from the port, fearing that you might steal the antiques they've discovered from ruins while not knowing the spiritual connection those objects have. The smaller islands are much more welcoming though as the locals tend to smile as they see the little flaps of colour flying across the seas. You can sometimes find ori children adopted by lonely elders and living their lifes as humans on the islands. And, if you decide to go underwater, a whole new kingdom awaits for you. Kaplam kingdom is currently ruled by a queen who warily accepted this influx of immortal children.
When you enter this kingdom, you will awaken in an abandoned fort, runes littering the walls as the island hold both many secrets and many ancient magic.
Lifeno Kingdom
A kingdom that replaces the hidden forest gate. This kingdom is nestled in the vast forest of Avre, a forest said to be almost alive by it's sheer magic. This kingdom is perhaps the bigger part of the whole world, the forest stretching almost endlessly and holding many secrets. The forest is lush and attracts many magical creatures to it's mysterious forces. This is probably the most popular choice for ori children due to the sheer amount of exploration this forest holds: From ruined castles to areas that exude light magic. Not to mention the hidden villages and gateways this forest holds.
But it's within your best interest to watch out where you go. This forest is littered with fae and mischievous spirits that are neither good nor benevolent, so your skykid might be in for a ride if they were ever to wrap themselves in trouble with a spirit (unless your skykid is oblivious and continuously try to befriend them.) Not to mention rumours of an ancient dragon that lurks around the forest sometimes. But out of all the kingdoms, this one is high up on the not dangerous scale and there's little consequences for ori children as some still mistake them for fae. This is probably the only kingdom that still consider ori children as a sub species of fae, despite the church and multiple scholars refuting that claim. Currently, the kingdom is ruled by a King who, despite being neutral towards ori children, was the one who approved the ban on ori children as navigators. (So maybe he actually likes them? Who knows.) The local merchants are interested in trading the old cloaks of ori children, though.
When you awaken in this kingdom, you will appear in an old church of a forgotten religion. The plants have grown all over the place as few lights peeks through the roof.
Freidan Mountains.
A kingdom that replaces the valley of triumph gate. Although, it's not really a kingdom, as it does not have a ruler nor a civilization that has power over the mountains. However, it does hold it's fair share of locals. This area takes place right in the middle of a mountain range that stretch far from into the horizon. Very few people live here except for a few nomadic villages. But that's unless you travel to the dwarven kingdom that's built inside of the tallest mountain. You can spot the mountain from a mile away from the intercrate buildings that surround it, the geometric shapes that decorate each one and shimmers when the sun hits the peak of the mountain. When you enter the mountain, a whole city reveals itself to you, one built on the backs of miners and warriors who purged the mountain for it's valuable ores, ruled by a queen with an iron fist. Currently ori children are welcomed in the kingdom, except for the mines. There were a few incidents of a ori child bringing lit candles to highly explosive areas. As for the nomadic villages, some take in injured ori children and raise them as their own, causing the villages to grow as they travel the mountains. The villages are always happy to see the flaps of colours that rise from the clouds on the mountains.
The mountain is not that harsh due to the fact that the only life that lives there are ancient dragons, spirits of the mountain and animals that know how to climb the mountains. Ori children are now added to that list since this area is also quite popular with them for the very few people that live here. Many kingdoms did try to pillage this land for it's resources but due to the threat of colossal dragons living right underneath each mountain, nobody really made a move to claim it. And now with the sudden influx of ori children, multiple churches are fighting to claim the lands as holy. So it's a pretty tense situation political wise, but ori children don't really care about that.
When you awaken in this kingdom, you'll find yourself in a cave that seem to be a place of offering of a forgotten civilization. The statues loom over you, but the plant growth completely betrays the sculptures.
Ragma kingdom
A kingdom that replaces the golden wasteland gate. Instead of the dark, desert wasteland we know, Ragma is mostly icy tundras, winter taking almost half a year to pass. The land has scars of revolutions and wars whispering across them, with ruined forts and castles scattered across them. Most who live here live in the cities near the royal capital and the few villages that are on the outskirts of the kingdom. Although you might expect this to be less dangerous than the wastelands, it's still a harsh kingdom.
For whatever reason, it attracts dark forces to it's areas. Maybe it's because of the harsh winter that befalls this kingdom? Or maybe it's because of how few elemental spirits roam these lands? Who knows. There a few highlands and forests in this area and many ori children reside in them. Most supernatural creatures lie in wait on these lands, such as werewolves, vampires and the occasional undead or two, maybe even a witch who thrives on the darkness of this kingdom. Ori children have to be wary of meeting these dark creatures but must also know that this kingdom has the most spiritual attachments of them all. Despite it's harsh environment, Ragma is politically wise the most peaceful one of all the kingdoms. The current ruling king is trying his best to imrpove it's economy and is very welcoming towards ori children as he shares the same believe as the churches that these children are blessings.
When you awaken in this kingdom, you will find yourself in a castle of a forgotten duke. Hush memories of balls and festivities linger around the halls.
Sorano Kingdom
A kingdom that replaces the vault of knowledge gate. This kingdom is home to many sorcerers and wizards that practice their magic. It's a kingdom built upon cities that is filled to the brim with magic and all of it is under a mountain that's overflowing with magical energy. This is perhaps the only kingdom that is completely industrial and the kingdom with the least ori children.
Home to magic organisations and schools, this kingdom even uses magic to simulate day and night with lights becoming dimmer and brighter as the day marches on. The buildings are tall and sometimes defy logic as a result of magic. This was also the first kingdom to claim ori children as neither blessing nor fae, but rather beings of light who serve the departed. Once very fierce in battle in it's ancient times, the kingdom is now passive and welcomes ori children as either apprentices or as familiars or sometimes as family. It's quite a journey to travel through this kingdom, as the entrance is hidden from most of the world except for those that are royal. You can sometimes find some ori children perched on top of these buildings, watching the citizens or walking between crowds, hand in hand and mesmerize by the kingdom. The current king is a powerful sorceress who welcomes the ori children as long as they abide with the rules of the kingdom.
When you awake in this kingdom, you will be somewhere in the outskirts of the kingdom, an abandoned path leading to the center of the kingdom opened to you.
Other kingdoms and hidden villages.
The elf villages.
Currently, there are 3 main villages with smaller ones scattered across the world. One in the forest of Avre, one in the Freidand mountains and one in the Kaplam kingdom. Each one has a sort of king or queen ruling them and they do not mingle with the 6 main kingdoms unless they are threatened or offered aid.
The faewild
A world of fae that resides in the forest. Entrance to this kingdom is difficult to find as it moves across the forest from time to time. The fae wilds are divided by two courts, unseelie and seelie. Unseelie are for the more dark fae and those who do not mingle with humans while seelie are more involve with humans and light magic. Both shouldn't be trusted.
The fallen kingdom
There's another kingdom that use to be part of the main 6, but now lies ruined and forgotten. It's right in between Ragma and Freidan mountain. Nobody remembers much of the kingdom, but skykids love to go there and it's become a sort of hidden town or city for passing ori children, where some offer candles in exchange for fixing cloaks and maps.
The Manila kingdom.
There's a whole mermaid kingdom ruled by a queen in the Kaplam kingdom. Very few ori children go there, but when they do they are either treated with hostility or welcomed warmly by the locals. They aren't as big as the main 6, but they're still treated with respect. If a skykid were to be taken in by a mermaid, they will develop tails like that match their cloaks.
The maze of King Haga
A maze is located on the outskirts of the forest, where a jungle like environment lays bare. No kingdom has any power in there due to the incredibly strong monsters that inhabit the maze. Great for heroes, horrible for bystanders.
After thought
That's about it! Thanks for reading. If you have any questions feel free to ask me.

❄️ 𝒞𝓁𝑜𝓈𝑒𝒹 𝒮𝓉𝒶𝓇𝓉𝑒𝓇 𝒻𝑜𝓇: @markofdivinity ❄️
Tumblr media
Somewhere on the Yucatan Peninsula, Mexico. Home to it's fair share of ancient ruins and cities, laid one particular bygone temple trapped forever under the Mishima Zaibatsu's surveillance.
Over the years since Ogre's demise naturally the conglomerates priorities shifted, less and less eyes locked on any activity around the structure as employees were moved to more important tasks. – Yet all it took was one pair of eyes and their accompanying mouth to notify her when something seemed amiss. As if this couldn't happen at a worse time too... The war still waged, fickle with the outcome dependent on every little factor. The last thing this company and the planet it rests on needs is that beast somehow reviving... Or perhaps more unfavorable, their rivals G-Corporation possibly acting as the irritating alarm clock.
At the first sign of detected movement, Nina was on the first jet flight over. Accompanied by what available toy soldiers she could gather. The supposed deity's strength aside.. with it's involvement in her complicated past, going at all was too risky. Yet turning a blind eye in the off chance G-Corporation was connected would be even riskier. Hence the boots that hit the stone floor along with the clack of her heels.
...Everything about the ancient place pulled at the apathetic woman's nerves.. no one would ever realize the trauma response that was threatening to take hold behind that frigid air the assassin carried with her.
Especially not the mysterious figure she soon came across deeper within the structure. It wasn't the jolly green giant at least...but a giant nonetheless. –  She didn't recognize the bicolored being at all. Never saw them before in her life...
Tumblr media
The Tekken force aimed their guns, Nina merely raised a hand to hold off their firing. Chilling tone practically echoing within the enclosed chamber. "Who are you?"

Flight crew AU - snippet
Finding inspo lately has kind of been like pulling teeth so I’m digging back through WIP’s and snips ✈️This deserved edits since I wrote it on the fly in that tiny twitter box lol. OG snip
In which Sakura is the best pilot from her class and Sasuke is crew + Ino best copilot/wingwoman.
“You did,” he whispers, breathing hard against her temple, feeling her coat against her chest, between them. “But not the job - I don’t care about that.”
Desperate, the way he takes her face in his hands, thinking if he holds on she can’t flit away into the bright blue world.
“It’s that you’ll always love me second.”

“You know they’re separated for a reason? Pilots and crew?”
Lingering by the cockpit near the crew rest quarters is the height of pathetic, he knows. In the aftermath, the chaotic fireworks of an illicit fling, it feels like a smoldering fire the whole route’s crew can see.
Ino’s glower cuts deep.
“Sniffing around isn’t a good look,” she says, raising her eyes up to the crew rest area above first class. “You’re so obvious.”
Sasuke sighs, expression pained. No matter the roles, he still feels responsible. He was the catalyst; in his life he’s never been “that guy.”
“It’s ending.” Voice harsh, a knife’s curt cut to drive home his point. Bitterness.
“It better be,” she hisses, folding her arms across her uniform. “I can’t stick my neck out for crew that doesn’t know their place.”
He glances at her stripes, jaw clenched.
“This is the last time. I’m . . . saying goodbye.” Dark eyes boring into Ino’s, he acutely feels the weight and tenor of his disrespect.
“She’s too good to be disgraced. This could end her career. She’s an idiot for overstepping.”
“I wanted her,” he says simply. “It’s me, too.”
The longest pause:  First class dishes clinking softly, the murmurs of the engines and gentle waves of passenger conversation.
A few feet above him, she sleeps. Sasuke prepares to leave the only woman that’s ever made him feel a thing.
Pilot and cabin crew:  A timeless cliche.
“You’re a mess, Uchiha.” Turning her ocean eyes back to the ceiling, she stretches tall and reaches for the ladder latch. Enters a code. “I’d better not see you on this route again. Go close the book on this.”
She sweeps past him, gifting him a hard nudge to the shoulder. He deserves it.
Pilots and crew always have separate quarters for a reason — it didn’t manage to keep their hurricane love apart.
Ascending the ladder, aware of the risk to him and the copilot, he curses himself for it all:  The utter cliche of it. The drunk layovers. Whispers. Loneliness.
The lifestyle’s a difficult one, holidays and milestones celebrated on crash couches, the new year rung in halfway over a dark ocean with only your crew and passengers for company. But he jeopardized her one true love, and for that, he owed it to her to go.
Dim rest quarters, plush bunks for the pilots; long-haul routes offered comfortable accommodations, and he’d been around the world on them, whipped into a whirlwind by one of the best and youngest pilots of her flight class.
“Sasuke?” Her eyes trap him, glitter and green.
“You’re almost up again,” he says quietly, staying near the ladder. “Approach is soon.”
Sakura sits up, swings her legs to the bunkside. “But that’s not why you’re here.”
Unraveling, the frayed threads of their silence.
“I’ll make this easy for you,” he says. “I’m going.”
“Absolutely not.”
Watching one another askew, reflections bouncing at odd angles off the mirrors; seems they can only watch with distance.
“I’m taking a commuter route,” he mutters to the carpet. “I’ll work out of—”
“So that’s it, hm?” She stands, eyes blazing, feet planted. Looking every bit the charming, vivacious, undaunted young pilot he took an off-duty drink with not long after FA training. Did he know he was doomed then? “The mistakes were all mine,” she rasps, shaking her head. “This power dynamic — I disrespected that. Became a cliche.”
“And I begged you to,” he hisses. “I’m not about to ruin your career for this — for me.”
Aloud, it’s too fraught:  He will take the hit, alter his course to stay out of hers and keep that runway clear.
“Don’t you see, Sasuke? I don’t deserve this position. I’m a mess.”
He snatches her jacket off a hook and tosses it at her with force. Catching it, she squares her jaw in anger.
“That’s what I want to see,” Sasuke says, acknowledging her with a handsome jerk of his chin. “The fire. You love what you do. So take it. Be the best.”
She feels the fabric in her hands, fingertips tracing delicate stitches in winding curves — her long-haul journeys, her thousands of hours in the sky. Mapping the world, her one true love.
Ah, and don’t they both know it, as their last flight ticks down to the approach.
“I’ve destroyed you,” she whispers, trailing her fingers over the epaulets. Four stripes — the culmination of her life’s work.
He crosses the small space in a few swift steps, crushing his lips on hers without pausing to breathe, tasting her for the last time, their epilogue.
“You did,” he whispers, breathing hard against her temple, feeling her coat against her chest, trapped between them. “But not the job — I don’t care about that.”
Desperate, the way he takes her face in his hands, thinking if he holds on she can’t flit away into the bright blue world.
“It’s that you’ll always love me second.”
He steps back, feels the ache and loss immediately, a stitch in the chest. “But to love you, Sakura, even second has been worth it.”
And he retreats, turning his back on her because her sorrow will absolutely ruin him.
“You’re up.”
.
.
.
Ten minutes later, crew and passengers alike enjoy a smooth descent and taxi, like slipping into a warm bath.
Sasuke lingers, nodding as people disembark, avoiding the blonde copilot’s sharp eyes while hating the soft warmth in his chest as he watches Sakura smile at the departures, taking compliments with grace.
When people shake hands with her, thank her, marvel at her, he knows in his heart she was born with wings.
This is what she’s made for. A thing not easily articulated but apparent the minute you meet her.
A great love, destiny at 20,000 feet.
And Sasuke knows it’s impossible to compete with a fate like this.
“We’re off-duty now, you know.”
She’s staring at him, handle of her rolling suitcase in hand. Of course he knows, and feels her gaze, unwavering.
That hunger, consuming.
“If you changed airlines,” she says, turning on her heel in a way that always manages to make him fall into line, “it could be less of a mess.”
And she starts walking, heels tapping the dirge of their great love undone, echoing across the airport floors.
He doesn’t hesitate to follow.
“Perhaps,” she says, “your name’s already been brought up at another legacy.”
“So then what would I do?” He catches up, watching the top of her pink head. Cap tucked under her arm. “Chase you around the world, meeting up when our schedules cross?”
Sakura shrugs, eyes ahead.
“Is that not what we’ve been doing anyway?”
They arrive at street-level, standing on hard concrete, bereft of words.
Then—
Sakura hands him a business card, a number scribbled on the back in a gorgeous, looping hand. “Go to your hotel,” she says. “Call her. Discuss it.”
“Sakura—”
“If you like the terms, I’ll see you at 7:00 p.m. in your finest, non-crew dress. I’ll be a stranger, and so will you. Endings and beginnings, you know.”
Her smile could power a city with its light and magic. It could chase away every cranny, small and dark.
“I’m sorry you’ve been second.” Summoning a taxi with a wave of the hand, she lets the driver take her luggage and lowers herself into the back seat. Pauses before continuing,
“But I have two great loves, and I don’t want to let go of either.”
Leaves him standing there on the curb, contemplating his fate.
.
.
.
Two strangers meet in a bar.
With his dark hair and eyes and hers so fair, they paint complementary shadows in the thrown curtain of dim candlelight; a new and foreign city.
They speak of everything and nothing, her considerably chattier than him, but upon taking her hand, she sinks into a companionable silence.
The bartender’s used to seeing this play out:  International crews criss-crossing the globe, anonymous in a place like this. Flickering sparks of two kindred souls catching fire.
Unsurprised when they leave together, sailing into the night giddy on desire.
Watching a stern man chase a soft love.
Embarking on their star-crossed life in perpetuum, circling infinity.

Displacement - A New Beginning

Summary
The rise of Vaatu leads to unprecedented darkness falling upon the world. Unexpected events lead to Azula learning to live in an unknown world, preparing for an uncertain future.
-------------------------------------------------------
A spell to close the Hellmouth in "The Zeppo" has unexpected consequences. With no way of sending the newcomer home, Buffy, Faith and the Scoobies do their best to help the young girl adapt to her new home.
Or
While facing the possible end of the world, Azula finds herself transported through the newly created hellmouth, ending up in Sunnydale. Watch as she grows and adapts in this new world, learning to overcome the pain of losing loved ones, finding a family, and starting to see this as a new opportunity at life.
Anyone who thought the Fire Nation was evil was a fool. At least they should feel they are, given the darkness that has enveloped the world in the four years since the war has ended. It all began last year when Avatar Roku warned Avatar Aang that there was a risk of a dark spirit breaking free. He called it Vatu. It was the spirit of chaos and darkness, the antithesis to the Avatar spirit.
The spirit had a sort of cult worshipping it. Avatar Aang tried to stop them himself, not wanting to involve their friends and risk our safety. That was his first mistake. It left Katara and myself woefully unprepared for the cult's ambush. We fought them off as best as we could, but there were far too many. In the end, our cottage was left in ruins, dead waterless foliage caked in our enemy's blood, I was nearly beaten unconscious, and Katara was taken.
They times the kidnapping perfectly, just a day before their planned ritual to free Vaatu from his imprisonment. Avatar Aang, the foolish child that he is, refused to leave Katara's rescue to Sokka, Toph, and myself. His inability to let go of the infatuation he holds for Katara gave the cult enough time to break Vaatu's bindings. It was then the darkest days came.
Upon its release, Vaatu, with the help of its cult, performed a ritual. Black tendrils erupted from its body, tearing across the skies and burrowing into the earth, its physical dorm dissolving in the process. Agni's light was blocked by shadows stripping bending from Firebenders across the glow. From the five largest points, great beasts emerged. Enormous, otherworldly, monstrosities that the worst of nightmares couldn't compare to. Following their emergence, a diverse horde of smaller, equally horrid, creatures poured from the openings.
There was no time to prepare. Within hours the largest cities were reduced to unrecognizable ruins. Formerly bustling streets were transformed into rivers of red. Body parts left strewn across the rubble. Images of beast feasting on children still haunt my mind. Even our own friends weren't able to escape the carnage. We managed to find Ty Lee the last of the living Kyoshi Warriors, just as she was impaled on the claws of a bald, gaunt humanoid-looking monster. It managed to rip an arm from her body by the time we closed the distance enough for Katara to decapitate it with a disk of ice. Her last words will forever be seared in my mind.
"I'm happy you're ok 'Zula."
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Over the two weeks, since The Emergence began, Aang was almost non-stop searching for and rescuing survivors. We established a temporary refugee camp at the unoccupied Southern Air Temple. Like an endlessly erupting volcano, the creature continued rising from the pits Vatu created. Isolated locations like the Air Temples and Water Tribes were the only places still safe, for now at least.
Knowing that allowing events to continue unimpeded, Aang turned to the spirits for guidance. The Air Temple's sacred grounds made the transition from the mortal world to the spiritual plane much easier. Sitting in the temple powerless as Katara held me, waiting for Aang to return from the spirit world, listening to the distant roars of monsters below the clouds, I don't think I ever felt so terrified.
Almost like she could sense my fear, Katara held me tighter, softly kissed the top of my head while gently running her fingers through my now unkempt hair. It's strange how the moment I felt the most fear was followed by one where I felt incredibly safe. As her gentle caresses lulled me to sleep, I heard a whisper from my lover. A hope a clung to until the very end.
"Everything will be ok Zula. We'll make it through this."
Two days later, Aang returned from the spirit world. With the help of Avatar Roku, he had managed to make contact with Rava, the spirit of light and the source of the Avatar's power. With the information she gave us, we were able to come up with a plan. Vaatu's ritual tore open portals that were connected to another dimension. They were directly connected to the five largest beasts that first erupted from them. While the portals themselves couldn't be closed, the pits that housed them would be sealed, finally stopping the endless stream of monsters from pouring into our world. All they had to do was kill the five great beasts.
Admittedly, it wasn't much of a plan. As Sokka had put it "So all we have to do is take out monsters the size of small palaces? Great! You know, for once, why couldn't the world-saving plan be easy." I rolled my eyes at his remark at the time but didn't make a retort. The small smiles that our friends held were worth dealing with his rather poor sense of humor. Besides, he was family after all, and if he said something too stupid I'm sure Katara would've happily frozen him to the ceiling.
Rava's power, being the opposite of Vaatu's, would lure the massive beasts to Aang, acting as a sort of beacon. The general plan was that Aang would activate the Avatar State, he would kill the beasts near the pits, we would keep the army of smaller monsters away from Aang while he fights the bigger ones, don't die. Said like that, the plan sounded risky but simple. Unfortunately, it was anything but simple.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
There were a few Earthbenders among the rescued survivors that volunteered to help. We knew we couldn't hold back a never-ending army. After talking with Sokka, rapidly formulating and dismissing plans, the best we came up with was having the Earthbenders create a dome over the pit. This would grab the attention of the surrounding creatures. While they focused on not letting the army break through the barrier, the rest of us would protect the Earthbenders until the beast was slain.
Naturally, it wasn't that simple. Rava failed to mention that as each beast died, only some of Vaatu's energy returned to the pit, sealing it. The rest dispersed to the remaining beasts, making them stronger. The first there battles went relatively smoothly, the growing strength of the beasts was more and more apparent with each successive fight. We experienced a handful of losses but nothing unexpected. Merely some inexperienced volunteers. It was the fourth battle that hit our group the hardest.
The battle started just like every other, sealing the pit and fighting the surrounding beasts. However, due to the strength of this beast, this fight lasted far longer than the last. With our growing exhaustion, it was only a matter of time before someone made a mistake. As Sokka slew one of them, another managed to catch him off guard from behind. Faster than anyone could react, the hairless humanoid snatched his wolf-tail, yanking him back, and sunk its fangs into the side of his neck. Within seconds his skin lost all color and he was left hanging limp in the thing's arms, his sword slipping from his hands and his vacant eyes forever left wide in horror.
That fight ended soon after, with the Avatar finally defeating the creature. I had to nearly rip Katara away from her fallen brother, the last of her biological family. I held her as she cried during the entire flight back to the Southern Air Temple. Upon our arrival, Aang approached us after climbing off of Appa.
"I'm sorry for what happened to Sokka, Katara." He began. At the sound of his voice, I felt Katara stiffen in my arms.
"You're sorry..." It was a whisper I barely heard as she pulled away, her face displaying a hatred I didn't know she was capable of. He began to speak again but she cut him off.
"How dare you come to me and say that!" She growled at him. "Like I'm sorry will make it all better! You could've stopped all of this! You could have prevented Vaatu from breaking free and none of this would've happened! Now SOKKA IS DEAD!" A loud slap echoed across the now silent temple as she struck Aang across the face.
Her voice lowered to a whisper as she continued, tears freely falling from her eyes. "S-s-sokka is d-dead and it's all your fault... Just stay away from me..." Finishing her quiet statement, Katara ran inside the temple, away from the sympathetic stares of the gathered survivors.
Aang watched her go, holding his own tears back before turning to me. He unfastened the strap holding Sokka's blade across his back. With both hands, he held it out to me. "Will you please give this to her. He would want her to have it."
I accepted the blade and he turned, beginning to walk away. "She didn't mean that you know. Katara's hurt and angry."
I don't know why I felt the need to offer him that small comfort. Maybe it was because Aang had taken the time, despite his exhaustion, to do this for her fiance. Regardless of the reason, he paused, shaking his head.
"Doesn't matter Azula. Even if she apologizes, we both know she's right." With that statement, he walked away. Turning, I walked in the direction Katara had run. I knew I wasn't the best at providing comfort, but that's all I could do for her now. I don't remember ever seeing her so broken, and I don't think there's anything I could've said to help.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Katara squeezing my hand pulled me from my memories. "Are you ok?"
I turned to look at her, seeing the concern reflected in her eyes.  I looked over the edge of the Bison's saddle, noting that the sea was replaced by land below us, before responding "Ya, I'm fine. Was just thinking about everything that happened. What brought us here."
Katara stilled, appearing to look at something that wasn't there. She was probably lost within the same memories I was moments ago. I squeezed her hand softly, wondering for a moment how her hands remained so soft after the countless battles they've been through. She jerked slightly, her eyes regaining focus before giving me a small smile. It was a rare sight in recent months but still as beautiful as the day she proposed.
"Despite everything that's happened, I'm glad you've been here with me Zula."  Katara said softly before leaning in and giving me a soft kiss that left my heart stuttering. It's amazing that, after all this time, she still has the same effect on me. It faintly reminds me of how nervous I was when I admitted out loud to Ty Lee and Zuko that I wanted to marry her. Though the nervousness I felt that day grew to be far greater when she walked around the corner in the palace hallway, clearly having heard what I said.
I couldn't stop the small smile from forming on my face as the memory washed over me. Leaning my forehead against hers, I recalled her walking up to me, her wide-eyed, surprised, expression shifting to one of pure happiness.
"Ya know, I've been nervous all week about giving this to you, but suddenly I feel a lot more confident." She had said jokingly, a smirk plastered on her face as she pulled a small rectangle box from her robe. She opened the box, standing barely a foot away, revealing a blue necklace, simple in design. The pendant had the symbol of the Fire Nation in the center. Only, instead of black over a red background, it was ivory over a pale blue. It was simple but perfect.
"In the Watertribes, we use necklaces to propose. I wasn't so sure before, but something tells me I can guess your answer. Will you marry me?" Her eyes twinkled in amusement as I nodded dumbly, too shocked over what had just happened. It certainly wasn't my most elegant moment. It had taken me a few moments to process what had happened before I launched myself at her, pulling her into a searing kiss which she smiled into. Pulling away from me, with eyes full of joy and a smile lighting up her face, Katara asked "Can I put it on you?"
I nodded again, not trusting my voice. Katara pulled the necklace from its case and walked around me as it looked over at Zuko and Ty Lee both wearing equally large smiles. As soon as it was fastened, Zuko pulled us both into a large hug, quickly followed by Ty Lee, who couldn't contain her excitement. "Oh my gosh Azula! Congratulations! You're getting married! There is so much planning we have to do! The decorations, oh you know there has to be music..."
I looked into Katara's eyes, not pulling away from her, returning the smile. "There's nowhere else I'd rather be." I said softly so only she could hear, before closing the distance for another kiss.
We were pulled from our moment by Appa beginning his descent, and Aang jumping off, unfurling his glider and flying away, creating distance for his battle. Looking back towards the rapidly approaching ground of the western Earth Kingdom, I could see the sea of black dots below us start to become more defined, revealing the mass of creatures we'll soon be fighting. Appa landed with a massive gust of wind sending monsters flying, giving us a few moments to disembark and fall into formation.
As soon as Toph landed, she quickly entombed the pit in a think earthen dome, soon backed by two other Earthbenders, preventing the swarm of monsters from continuing to grow. Katara, myself and the other volunteer survivors formed a protective perimeter around them. I quickly unsheathed Sokka's black blade instead of using my dual tanto. Katara handed me the sword before we left the temple, saying Sokka would want to be here fighting with us. Looking at the gleaming dark metal, I knew she was right.
The luminous light of the Avatar state in the distance, shortly followed by a deafening roar and rumbling earth signified the start of the battle. The monstrosities surrounding us, the same kind that butchered Ty lee, righted themselves before charging. There was a vindictive pleasure in cutting them down, watching their bodies crumble into dust as their heads rolled. The creatures were stronger and faster than normal people, that was unquestionable. However, for a veteran of the 100-year war, their attacks were laughably easy to read and counter.
As the battle drew on, the quakes from Aang's battle with the giant, snake-like beast continued, and exhaustion slowly began to seep in. There was a yell to my left followed by a sickening snap that drew my attention. The limp body of a survivor was held by one of our enemies, head twisted to an unnatural degree. It carelessly threw the body into another ally that was attempting to flank it before running towards the earthbenders.
"Katara!" I yelled, directing her to the monster. She quickly launched a disk of ice, decapitating the beast.
"Fall in!" I yelled, causing our allies to move closer to the earthbenders, closing the gap in our defense.
I risked a glance towards Aang's fight to see the serpent falling from a newly formed mountain, who's shadow covered our battlefield. The end of its tail was coiled around the light of the Avatar State. Not a moment later, a massive quake tore across the Earth, the impact echoing in its wake. Chaotic black and red energy tore through the air, washing over us, blasting through the cover of the pit, and, for the first time in ages, I felt my Firebending return as Agni's light shined once again.
Unlike before, when the energy entered the hole it pulsed. Before I could react, some of the energy solidified, wrapping around my waist, before it began to drag me with it.
"Azula!" I heard Katara yelled as she raced towards me, skating across her ice. Using it, Katara launched herself off the ramp, rapidly closing the distance between us. Her left hand gripped mine as she used the last of her water to freeze her feet to the ground, stopping the energy from pulling me further.
I smirked at the display. "Very impressive Master Katara." I said causing her to roll her eyes.
"Only you could brush off nearly dying so easily." She said, her light tone trying to hide the strain of fighting the pulling tendril of energy. Her expression softened before she looked me in the eyes and said "I told you we would make it through this remember. I'm not gonna let you make a list out of..." Her words abruptly stopped as warm blood splattered across my face. "Zula... Your face..." Her voice was weak, words barely audible. My mind shut down, a sinking emptiness filled me as I started at the now crimson fist sticking through my fiance's chest. I couldn't help but look into her wide, horrified, blue eyes as the first extracted itself. Her grip on my hand didn't lessen as the bloodied hand gripped her hair, pulling her head to the side.
Gaunt, bald, fanged monsters peered at me from over her shoulder, giving me a sickening, malicious, grin before sinking its teeth into the side of Katara's neck. Her mouth opened in a silent scream, the grip on my hand weakening. The slick blood coating her front caused my hand to slide out of hers within a moment, my grip causing her ring to slide off with it. I watched, unable to speak, as the tendril of energy pulled me into to pit. The last thing I saw being the light leaving Katara's beautiful eyes as it tore its fangs from her throat.

"For untold eons, demons walked the Earth. They made it their home, their, uh... their hell. But in time, they lost their purchase on this reality, and the way was made for mortal animals, for-for man. Goretober D6: Cursed -Treasure Hunter! Felix
Warnings: Tombs, curses, booby traps, skeletons, mentions of blood.

With the reputation he’d build for himself Felix had been fought after to search for nearly every kind of treasure people could imagine possible. What he was being asked to do by you though was a first. You needed him to find a whole city just to get what you were looking for, that is....if it was even there anymore.
“Let me get this straight. You want me to take you to the city of Moria? The very same Moria that has been lost for the past 600 years?” Felix inquires raising a brow in disbelief.
“Yep, that’s the one! I tracked an ancestor all the way back to a merchant who favored Moria for trade. I’ve checked for his items in any other cities and routes he may have been in. So my deal is you take me there and back and you can have anything else you find in Moria, all I want is his stuff. That’s it.” You explain yet again, not that you can really blame Felix. There was a reason you’d come to the best treasure hunter there was, finding the city of Moria was by no means an easy task.
“And what exactly was it that belonged to him?” Felix asks another thing, only now he’s moving to stand and head towards the wall of books filled with maps and information.
“Mostly journals of his travels and other such papers. A few pieces of jewelry that are family heirlooms, but nothing substantial in that regard. I’m more looking for personal reasons and for the sake of research. I’ll pay very little mind to the treasure.” You assure him watching as he pulls a few books from the shelves.
“Not the first time I’ve heard that from an archaeologist.” Felix mumbles not fully convinced, only you laugh a little.
“Well it’s a good thing I’m only an archaeology student then, hm?” You playfully counter and for the first time you actually see Felix smile.
“I guess so. At least you’re a smart enough student to know I’m the best at this.” Felix glances up from the books to smirk smugly at you.
“Only a fool would think otherwise.” You stroke his ego while placing some things before him, the clues you’d collected on how to find Moria.
“And what exactly is all of this?”  Felix questions looking at you unimpressed.
“Information I’ve gathered about the location. Some of it is from asking around. Most of it is from stuff salvaged from where my ancestor had been in the past. We found a few journal pages from before he disappeared. Including one saying how many days it would be until he arrived at Moria if he left the city of Cin and headed Northeast.” You inform him turning to that page and at least for the moment impressing Felix a bit.
“You really did your research hm?” Felix hums in acknowledgment that you did actually have some useful information to offer.
“I tried, I didn’t want to come entirely empty handed after all.” You agree and Felix nods collecting the stuff.
“We should go, if we hurry we might be able to catch a flight to that general area now. We can look over everything on the flight and when we find a spot to set up base.” Felix leaves no room for discussion as he grabs his gear and research material and rushes out to head towards the  airport. Chasing after you try to keep up, journeying to the nearest modern city to where Cin had been located to follow in the footsteps of your ancestor. Felix paying little mind to you as he focuses on what information he can gather on the flight, letting you trail on the way to a spot where he knew you both could settle in for the night.
“So tomorrow we’ll head to where the remains of Cin are, look for more clues there before heading on our way. We’ll head Northeast from there, I’ve narrowed it down to having to be in this radius already, but hopefully Cin will show us what we need to narrow that down. At most I’m hoping it’ll only take a week to find Moria’s location. So long as this radius is accurate.” Felix shares his findings pointing out the red circle he’s drawn over the map.
“Excellent, if it helps I can read some ancient Esian. Not to say I could perfectly interpret any clues we find on our way, but it’s better than nothing.” You offer and Felix simply nods.
“Get some rest, we have a long week ahead.”
____
Felix certainly knew what he was talking about, but it all seemed with it when you finally laid eyes on the ruins. You fatigue lifting as you practically floated into the vine covered ghost town. Finding a sign engraved near the entrance of the city.
“This is it Felix! This is Moria! I’m going to search for where my ancestor would have been, feel free to search for whatever treasure you want.” You break off from his side to bound off in search of the journals you wanted. Felix locked in on something else. The towering central building of the city, whether it was a palace or a temple he wasn’t yet sure, but he was almost certain that would be the majority of any ancient treasure would be stored. Glancing in the direction you bounded off, he noticed you fixed intently on reading ancient texts and exploring to examine the ancient civilization in an entirely different light than he did.
Climbing up to the top he examined the area, pulling out the basic Esian dictionary you’d put together for him to try and read what was written on the wall. Telling of traps stored below to prevent all from entering, yet Felix found no description of what it held, at least not that he understood. Only of the impending doom that would befall all who entered. Noticing you below he called down.
“Y/N! Can you come help me translate this text?” Felix words beckoned you up to join him. Silently following the text along the walls to get an idea of what it was talking about.
“Well? What is it?” Felix expectantly asks when you don’t open your mouth.
“I’m not entirely sure. I can tell you what I can read though.” You nod, finger showing a path along the words as you read, “ ‘To whomever shall come across this place, the tower of all great kings, be warned. This place shall only be opened with the blood of our past king when he has been called to join the gods above. Any who enter without this offering and approval from the gods themselves shall certainly be sacrificed this day.’ ...then it goes into some description that I can’t quite understand. Something about the procedure for the priests I think, how they should appease the gods if someone does break in. I can’t be sure though.” Your brows are furrowed as you try to decipher the next text.
“Anything on how to safely enter? Or am I winging it?” Felix questions already pulling rope from his pack.
“No, I don’t think that anyone really did that.” You chuckle a little watching him tie the rope around his waist and then a nearby pillar.
“Well I’ll hope it’s a pit like most and not a collapsing area then. You should probably head down and a safe distance away just in case though.” Felix suggests kneeling to examine the patterns on the floor. Giving you time to safely return to your exploring down below before messing with anything. Pulling some water from his pack he pours it to fill the little moat in the floor instead of blood to see if it reveals anything. Watching how it seeped below and showed the spot he could wedge something other to lift the round stone leaving to below. Flashing his flashlight below what he found wasn’t entirely what he was looking for. What he assumed were the bones of their past kings adorned with gold, more gold and jeweled items buried down there with them. Scaling down into it he examined everything before moving to bring up one of the skeleton's adorned the best along with any other valuable items he could hold on that trip. So focused on the items when he reaches the top that he doesn’t notice the curse taking effect at first. Not until he looks to see what the king was wearing once again only to find the skeleton standing before him, more climbing from the pit that he realizes what is happening. Scampering back, he’s quick to until his waist and grab his pack, shoving the crown and necklaces in his hand into the pack, before bolting before more than one skeleton can be in pursuit of him.
“Y/N! WE HAVE TO GO NOW! THE CURSE!” Felix screams by now at least five skeletons following him down, a few bearing elaborate swords.
Your eyes widen as you turn to meet the sight before you shoving your ancestors items into your bag, so go, “ FELIX HURRY!”
You two rushed off, hoping that they wouldn’t follow you too far out of the ruins.

Imagine catching Amado building secret airport in the jungle; Enemies to friends /w benefits (2/2)
This one goes out of my hands. I don’t even know what kind of monster it is now, smh. The formatting seems screwed up. Please read it on AO3 if you want. Again, if tubmlr flag the gif below, I’LL RIOT.
Tumblr media
"Is this a date? What's the dress code? Cargo pants don't count." Amado sounds flirty when you call him the other day. It's not really his fault because you are the one who asks him out.
Since the formidable drug trafficker hasn't sent any sicario to make you disappear, you figure you still have chances to make him reconsider the plan of building an airport. You're willing to do whatever it takes to save the jungle and the ruins.
Plus seeing Amado again is not a bad idea.
You can't justify why you ignore your go-to outfit including cargo pants. Instead, you put on your tightest jeans.
You pick up Amado at four in the morning. The tall man looks sleepy and slightly confused, which is kinda cute. You offer him black coffee in your vacuum bottle.
After the first sip, Amado turns to you with his misty down-turned eyes, "No cargo pants today?" You try not to smile, "Shut up."
You're taking him to the Palenque ruins, another Mayan site in Chiapas, just few hours drive away.
You manage to get there before the sunrise. The site hasn't opened yet but you know a secret route because you also worked on the excavation project there.
"You have a thing for sneaking in, uh, Ms. Geologist?" You shouldn't encourage him but whatever, the banter is... fun.
Walking with Amado in the dense mountain forest actually is a perfect date in your dictionary. Your shoes are wet with morning dew but nobody cares. Listen to birds chirping and fogs croaking in the dim light.
"You're really not afraid of darkness, are you?" Amado sounds genuinely curious. "Why would I be? I worked on this site for years, I've known the whole place by heart." He nods, like some acknowledgement.
It's almost dawn, you look at the tinted horizon when you reach the top of the mountain. The entire ancient city of Palenque is quiet and peaceful wrapped in the jungle, reminds you why you chose what you do with your life.
"I want to show you something." It's the Temple of the Inscriptions, one of the most iconic Mayan architecture lightened up by the morning sun. Starting from the history, you explain to Amado not only the symbolic significance of the temple and the secret tomb inside, but also the epic war Emperor Pakal waged against Yaxchilán.
Amado doesn't stop you. You keep talking, sharing your involvement in those excavation projects with him, how excited you are when a new site is discovered, how proud you felt for your team when Palenque was recognized as World Heritage Site not long ago, which meant more funds, more human resources, and better equipment for all scientists working on it for years. You want to continue to study the whole area, even several rival/ally sites in Guatemala and Belize, to find more satellite cities, battlefields, to be able to define the border of those ancient powerhouses and finally draw a map of the mysterious kingdom.
He looks at you like you're some kind of heroine. It's heartwarming but you're not sure, "So, what do you think?"
Amado's playing coy, but you're persistent. "Come on. I'm a geologist. I can't hire assassins. What else am I supposed to do to make you change your mind? Put on my most expensive dress, show off my ass, wine and dine you?"
"Though I'd love to see you in a nice dress, jeans are great, too." The northern banditote smirks, eyeing your lower body, "Plus the whole speech, I told you I love it when you talk about your job. You seem to know exactly what you're doing."
Amado doesn't promise anything. He says he'll figure something out.
You exhale deeply. At least the guy listened, you appreciate it.
Then you find out there's nothing left in your vacuum bottle, the fucker drank all your coffee, "How am I supposed to drive back without any coffee in my system?"
Amado pulls you in for a kiss, warm and tastes much better than your shitty coffee. The fresh stubble overnight of his stings and it feels so good, you can't help cupping his face and kissing back.
Then he announces he'd drive if you just say "El Señor de los Cielos, please." You tell him to fuck off but toss the car key to him anyway.
You haven't contacted each other after that for a while. You tell yourself it's nothing. It's not like you two have had something.
You send people every week to monitor the construction of the airport from a hidden spot on the mountain. Meanwhile you complete the scan of the area surrounding the soon-to-be airport and find a possible target. You have to be on the ground again to confirm it.
Unluckily you break your ankle one day in the jungle. And you don't want to put any colleague's life at risk to get near the cartel's territory. You decide to wait on Amado, you believe he's a man of his words.
Amado surprises you one night at your camp. He jokes that a geologist can sneak into a drug cartel's property, it'd be humiliating if he doesn't return the favor. His face and neck are perfectly tanned, you want to immerse yourself in that hot chocolate. You almost jump out of excitement because you haven't seen Amado for a month. Then you remember you're confined to your desk and seat due to the injury.
"You're expecting someone else? Ms. Geologist." Amado sounds a bit down. "I..." You want to ask him so many things. Has he figured it out? Who is in charge of the airport when he's away? And where has he been? Why does it take him so long to come back? Maybe minus the last question. It'd sound desperate.
He says he flies from Juaréz, "One of the longest domestic flights," he claims as looking around your tent office, sketches and maps scattered all the place. When his eyes meet yours again, it's so gentle, full of fondness.
"You only want to talk about business?" He's getting close, "I just fly almost 2,000 miles and you're not even standing up. Look who's more cold-blooded than drug traffickers."
Before you realize what happens, Amado lowers his body and carries you off the chair. He doesn't touch your ankle but it still hurts when you're suddenly moved.
Amado finds out. The man in black examines your injury carefully. You never saw him so concerned before. He quickly comes to the conclusion that your injury is worse than it looks and needs better treatment.
No, you're not gonna leave your job. You have papers to write, new budget to apply, more areas to explore. Slowly it'd recover.
"Don't you want to wade across rivers, trek through jungles, and climb mountains again? If you love your job so much, you have to get better treatment, immediately! And take some good rest. Give it a few more weeks? Oh God, you're insane." He's so mad at you.
You finally agree, and Amado insists on carrying you again to his vehicle. You know it's not your priority right now but holy fuck, he's fucking built. And you're inches away from his big nose which you've had a crush on for a while.
He's gonna fly you to the state capital Tuxtla Gutiérrez.
"You don't fly 2,000 miles just to see me, do you?" You poke him during the flight, sitting next to the sexy pilot in the cockpit is a treat.
"Dear Ms. Geologist, remember I have a job, too?"
The pain is getting worse, Amado notices it then hands you a joint from nowhere. You're about ask whether it's legal to have weed on the plane, then you realize you're with a real drug dealer. "Not to bad to have a narcos friend, huh?" OK, you gives him that as the weed kicks in.
"So now we're friends?" You're obviously high, and bold. Because you find your hand dangerously near his groin for no reason, fumbling. "I always wanted to touch it." You giggle.
Amado politely removes your hand and tells you to behave.
"You know what? You could've been the most popular guy at our camp. Someone might trade blowjobs for your weed since we're just low-paid scientists and assistants." You're high like a kite.
You also "threaten" if Amado extends any further in the jungle to build more airport facilities when you're put away, you swear to God you'll...
"You'll what? Shut up and rest, cabrón. Or I'll take you directly to DF, better physicians there anyway."
And the fucker did, a day after a Chiapas physician suggests you seek the best orthopedic treatment in DF for speedy recovery.
Then Amado disappears again. You know he's probably running a drug cartel in the north, and only checking in on their hidden project near the southern border once a month or two. It's the way it is. Your lives only collide when it's meant to be. There's no fucking way you two see each other like normal people do.
You still miss Amado, miss the banter, even his northern accent.
During the two-month therapy in DF, you receive reports that the airport is completed, and the potential target site nearby is now a giant warehouse. You also learn a big donation is made specifically to the Yaxchilán excavation project, of course, anonymously.
That's what Amado meant by "figuring something out." You're not even mad. What's the alternate outcome when you're up against the narcos? Report it? The entire cabinet is probably in their pocket. You should be relieved that no one ends up dead during the little stupid game you played.
You can't even return the drug money because, a) you can't tell anyone where it's from; b) INAH's been underfunded for decades, the project fucking needs it, so do your colleagues.
You call that number again after you get back to the ground. You don't know how to end this, or is there anything to end?
"Come over next weekend, I'll be there and I can explain." Amado sounds poised and calm, like he always does.
You tell yourself to keep it civil. This is a losing battle since day one.
Amado meets you in front of a warehouse, he looks great, all charming smile and open arms. All you can think of is the location of the warehouse, it must be the one. Most likely it's being buried.
"You bring flowers, how nice." It's the white birds of paradise, which suits him, El Señor de los Cielos. You tell him you're grateful for the injury advice he insisted.
"Can I show you something?" Amado opens the door of the warehouse. It all feels like yesterday, when you showed him the sunrise at Palenque, talking about your future plan. How naive were you.
Some jaw-dropping scene in front of you. The entire site of ruins, intact, locked inside the warehouse with minimal structure to shield from the rain and sunshine.
"What? You thought I'm gonna show you cocaine? No offense, baby, you can't afford the Colombian white magic. This is all you get, some fucking broken rocks with barely recognizable inscriptions." The bastard shrugs.
How did he find this site? "Sorry. Let's say I accidentally took a copy of your scan map last time at your camp, when you were busy with your ankle problem." You fucking knew it, it's never what it looked like when it comes to Amado Carrillo Fuentes.
Yet you can't believe what you just see. It is NOT real. It can't be.
That's when harsh reality kicks in. It always starts with a but. "You can't work on it, not now." Amado explains the situation and his plan for your ruins, which he thinks it's better to keep them under the radar for now. No tomb raider would dare to approach it, you can work on many other sites first.
"Then what?" You keep digging. Amado sighs, giving you a melancholy smile, "This line of work doesn't tend to last very long. It will be yours one day. Before that, it's completely safe. You have my word."
Amado's kind of.... correct, and practical to be honest. INAH doesn't have enough resources for thousands of projects. Even with the hard work you and your colleagues pulled, it's estimated less than 10% of the total area of Palenque was explored and partially restored.
You carefully examine the site, making notes and sketches to create a hasty profile.
Amado focuses on something else, "It seems you walk just fine. Fully recovered, no rush? Good. And has your budget been approved? Got more money? I mean, the efficiency of any bureaucratic system is questionable in this country. If it still falls short, I can...."
You can't tell if he's been an asshole or a saint, God forbid.
"For fuck's sake, I don't want your fucking money. I just, I want...." You turn around, look defeated, "Your dick, OK? Who cares about your dirty drug money? You Sinaloan monkey!"
Amado bursts into laughter, "Why don't you take both, dear Ms. Geologist?" He put your hand below his belt buckle, "I think you made it very clear last time."
"It's your fucking nose, narizón." You gently caress it, and he's getting hard beneath the fabric and it's fucking huge.
You're on your knees, trying to take Amado's full length in. Fuck, it's difficult. You're embarrassed and he's like "Shhh, it's okay, baby."
Instead, Amado's going down on you, making your knees weak af. You have to grab the stones to stand still.
Amado eating your out with patience, salt and pepper stubble rubbing against the most sensitive part of your body which gives you more trouble, and fingering you at the same fucking time. Let that sink in for a moment.
You don't stand a chance, you come so hard.
Amado's taking you from behind, big hands on your hips to keep you still against the ancient structure. Rock into you with deep, short thrusts. You're wet for him like rivers during monsoon season.
Your legs are shaking when he hits right at the spot again. "Wanna to make a good girl like you squirm and scream." Fuck, Amado always gets what he desires as he pulls you hair up, leaving hickeys on your neck while he fucks you thoroughly.
The best orgasm through your whole life. And the fucker is proud of it, "Told you. You'd better take both, baby. The green and the big D."
Does it mean you really gonna take money from narcos? This is so fucked up.
Later Amado fixes you some nice margarita, casually asking if you want to join him for a business trip to Belize the next day. "I have to buy some stuff in Belmopan. Maybe we can stop by Lamanai with my private jet after that if you'd like."
How the fuck does he know you wanted to visit the Mayan ruins in a remote foreign town for years?
The concern becomes less shocking when you see Amado buy a bunch of Boeing 727s in Belmopan like a Sunday grocery run.

Note
Could we hear some more about your rad wizard au
Sure! There are many cities in the kingdom of Lairyon that I’ve fleshed out actually.
Milliara Capital: A wonderful city home to many. Especially merchants and immigrants. A circular city with high walls surrounding it. There are 8 pillars around the city representing the country’s values. Strength, loyalty, wisdom, courage, cooperation, kindness, determination, and empathy/understanding.
Alphasgard: Home to the country’s best training. For both magic and physical combat. Blacksmiths, bladesmiths, gunsmiths, and all types of smiths are prevalent in Alphasgard. This is the best stop if you want armor, weapons or training advice. Many of the military generals of Lairyon often stop by to brush up on their training, teach classes, or purchase new weapons.
* As a result of many military officials visiting, the police and security is top notch.
* Many shops offer their services to imbue weapons with magic and magical properties.
Riveria: A thriving fishing city home to many of the more aquatic inclined people of Lairyon. Water magic specialists hail from this city. With their neighboring city of Watercrest, they supply the country with high quality fish and sea artifacts.
* Riveria is more focused on the fish side of things. With kiplings being the most prevalent race there.
Watercrest: An aquatic city that specializes in water magic and support items. This is the best place to find magic charms, artifacts, and curios.
* Watercrest is also a great place for potions and alchemy. But it is only second to Redland
* A hotspot for artists and artisans to sell their wares. Jewelry especially being a main export.
Redland: The magic capital as it’s called. The best place for mages of all kinds. Many magic schools, and shops reside here. And is home to the best alchemists and potions in Lairyon
* The shops sell all sorts of magical wares. Materials for potions, as well as magical edibles. Such as small more portable versions of potions which come in small gummy form. However the downside to this is that the gummies usually aren’t as strong as the regular potions.
* Also trinkets for wizards like amulets, wands, bags of holding, etc.
* There is a very prestigious academy of magic there. Some of the best mages studied there
Asheborn: Trade and merchant central babyyyyyy. The most popular spot for merchants from all over the world to set up shop. As such, you can find a variety of wares from all over the world here, as well as the largest variety of races.
* The city is separated by its main hub, and then different districts surrounding it. Each district representing some part of the world. Such as the north, south, eastern, western, and central.
* While the city is mainly made up of good, honest businesspeople. There are also the shadier parts of the city. Scammers and con artists like to make there rounds there
* There is also a very large black market underneath the city called the Midnight Market. More rare, and controversial wares are sold here. Such as illegal magical items, and some very powerful but also questionable magic items. Like, a good 45 percent of everything here is cursed in some way.
Addows: A quieter but not really city home to many guilds and other creeds (assassination). The city is always surrounded in a misty thick fog. It is home to the more affordable homes in the country.
* It’s more affordable because this is ghost city.
* Many seers, and clairvoyants live here and offer their services.
* The final resting place of lots of Lairyon’s heroes over history. Having the largest national graveyard and memorials.
* It houses the largest library in all of Lairyon, and is the best place for gathering knowledge.
Cadence: A joyous city that many travelers rest at. It the most inviting city, with the most inns and most hospitable people you’ll ever meet. It’s a peaceful and quiet city, meant to be a moment of peace for adventurers. Hey also have free therapy! For anyone who might be traumatized.
* Lots of former adventurers live here and love to tell tales of their past quests. They also can provide some knowledge that the books don’t write about.
Edenswell: A city amongst the clouds, home to the winged people of Lairyon. The clouds are dense enough for non flighted people to walk on. The city embodies the term spiritual, and is home to lots of spas and relaxation houses. Many religious houses of worship are here, allowing people far from home or a temple to offer thanks and praises to their chosen gods.
* Full of priests and religious people. Like monks. Warrior monks.
* Everyone here is very kind, offering help and advice to lost souls
* Clerics love to stop here to purchase a new artifact if their old one broke.
* This is the best spot if you wanna get healed.
Towns
Kiltón: A shipping town near Addows. The most haunted place in Lairyon. But the people there don’t mind. “Don’t poke it and you’ll be fine.”
Anamola: Mainly a town full of researchers and scientists to study magic and anomalies.
Kittonbrow: A sleepy little town in the flower fruit fields. The know the most about the fields, and hold festivals honoring the nature spirit they say resides in the old and large oak tree in the center of town.
Fielville: A town made up of misfits and druids. They love tradition and know the most about the forest of memories.
Dwarveil: A town deep in the heart of the mountains. Home to many skilled miners and blacksmiths. They offer help and guides to those wanting to head deeper into the mountains.
Mellolín: A town made up of people from all around the world. Many of them knowing how to speak multiple languages. Also home to many who love a good mystery and code to crack. They’ll decipher anything for you as well as translate stuff.
Grandháll: A mining town home to mainly dwarves. Very hospitable and cheery. They know how to throw a good tavern party. But other than that it’s a great place for buying raw ores and crystals.
Crystalla: A happy town that knows the secrets of the rivers and the properties they hold.
Shellor: Ninja town. N I N J A. T O W N
Coral Shores: A town that is supposedly home to Mermaids that learned how to take the form of humans.
Elstara: An elven town home to many libraries and curio shops.
Marinhall: A town known for their bakeries and sweets! Many cooks come here to learn pastry.
Darlón: A town populated by engineers! Redstone central.
Mollenhale: Do you want a magic pet? Come here it’s man’s best friend 24/7 here
Freedana: Mainly a supply town where you can stock up for long journeys
Overture: A town full of music and musicians. A very lively town.
Areas
Ashioll Fjords: Fjords that legends say house Lairyon’s ancient heroes. Waiting for the day their country needs them the most. Elders say they’ll come thundering down the fjords and mountains like spectral ghosts of light. Aiding the land.
Evernight Forest: A large forest that is always blanketed in darkness. The sun never shines and it always appears to be night in these woods. Lots of nocturnal and light sensitive creatures find their home here. They do not like having light brought to their homes. The people of Foresta when venturing into the forest have night vision potions to aid them. (Beasts in here include ROUS rodents of unusual size. And basilisks.)
Evershade Mountains: Tales say this mountain pass is the gate to the underworld. Thus many believe souls make their journey to their final resting place there and it is bad luck to wander the roads at night or to block the roads. For that is when they are making their trek. If you disturb the dead who want to head home, you’ll be cursed. Or so they say.
Forest of Memories: This forest is like a parasite. Feeding off of your emotions. It particularly likes the negative ones. Showing visitors memories of the past. Good if they’re in a good mood, or bad if they are not. It amplifies these emotions and makes the visitors spiral out of control until the forest claims them completely. It’s nickname is the Hangman Playground. For many poor souls often take their life there.
Lionheart Mountains: Where the S class trials are held. Mainly for their extreme difficulty to climb and many dangerous creatures making their homes there. Lots of cliffs and ravines dot the mountains, gravel and loose soil ready to fall beneath your feet. Beware the chimeras and manticores and gryphons. They are plentiful here.
Flowerfruit Fields: A large open peaceful field that is under spring’s protection. Thus it is always spring here. Lots of magical fruit trees and many herbs used in alchemy and medicine can be found here. It is the best place to scavenge for them. Fairies love to play tricks on those who mess with the terrain too much. And legends say that if you pick a flower and give it to your love, you’ll have eternal happiness.
Heartbreak Trench: A large ravine between two of the smaller main islands of Lairyon. Although this place has a mystical property. Adventurers say once they enter, they are transported to a labyrinth of sorts. Some say it’s the work of the Fey who inhabit the area. For they love to see people be fooled. However if you make it to the center of the labyrinth, a treasure tailored to the person exploring lies wait. Once you claim your prize you are transported out of the ravine and labyrinth.
Crystal Mines: Also called the Treasury of the Mountain God, this mine is plentiful of crystals and minerals. It rests at the heart of the Lionheart Mountains. Some say it’s the ruins of an ancient city that used to live in the mountains.
Golden Hearth Mines: Mines blanketed in a ethereal mist (think the tears of light trials from skyward sword). Many workers of Lairyon go here to mine out the ores the Kingdom needs. However there are places belonging to the ancients. Guarded by automaton guardians who will strike you down if you trespass onto their sacred land.
