Potter
Slytherin boys (separate) x fem! Potter!reader
Slytherin boys: Draco Malfoy, Mattheo Riddle, Theodore Nott, Lorenzo Berkshire, and Blaise Zabini.
Warnings: forbidden romance?, swearing, smoking, alcohol, partying, horny teens, probably incorrect body shots.
Note: got back into Harry Potter and fell into the Slytherin boy rabbithole holeđ
Backstory:
You used to be very close to your twin brother. But your relationship changed for the worst during your first year at Hogwarts.
While Harry had been sorted into Griffindor, you had been sorted into Slytherin.
The both of you had tried to keep your relationship intact, but the rivalry between your two houses made it practically impossible.
By fourth year, you and Harry were practically strangers, and uninvolved with each otherâs livesâŚ
Draco Malfoy
In fourth year, Draco decided to ask you out to the Yule Ball. Mainly to piss off Harry.
He swaggered up to you in the courtyard and asked you very loudly in front of a lot of people, including Harry, of course!
âHeard you didnât have a date for the ball, Potter.â He said with a smirk, âYou want to be my date?â
You eyed him suspiciously before answering, âSure, why not Malfoy.â
Didnât expect for you to actually accept.
Low key freaking out internally.
Thought youâd just tell him to piss off.
Heâs very smug about it on the outside tho.
Especially when he sees Harry fuming on the side lines with Ron and Hermione.
He then escorts you to class like the gentleman he was taught to be.
âDonât get an ideas Malfoy. Iâm only going with you to piss off my brother.â You told him as you entered potions.
âSame here, Potter.â He rolls his eyes a bit.
Glad you have the same idea but also a bit disappointed that youâre only using him.
But heâs also using you so-
When it came time for the ball, Draco was waiting for you by the stairs. Mattheo and Blaise were waiting with him.
He couldnât lie, he was a tad nervous. Fixing his hair every 2.5 seconds to the annoyance of his friends.
âDoes my hair look good?â He asked for the billionth time.
âYour hair is fine mate! Why do you even care so much itâs just Potter.â Mattheo rolled his eyes at the blond.
âItâs not about her!â Draco hissed, â..I just want to look good!â He answered semi confidently.
A few moments later you appeared and began walking down the stairs.
Draco looked at you in awe. You looked stunning all dolled up, your hair was curled and pinned up in an intricate hairdo, and the dark green dress you were wearing fitted you perfectly.
You glanced at Draco every few steps as you descended the stairs, admiring him from afar. You couldnât lie, he looked dashing in his suit.
Blaise and Mattheo snickered behind him, shoving him forward to make him help you down the stairs.
âYou look nice.â Draco said awkwardly.
âThank you, you donât look half bad yourself.â You responded, taking his hand as you walked down the rest of the steps.
âYou cleaned up nice, Potter.â Mattheo teased.
âShut it, Riddle.â You rolled your eyes at him.
Draco escorted you to the punch table to have a drink before you had your first dance.
When you started dancing you were both very stiff and awkward, but as the night went on you became much more natural with each other.
You and Draco went on to have a nice evening. Making show of your ârelationshipâ by calling each other by your first names and dancing together for the majority of the evening.
When the ball finally ended, you and Draco returned to the Slytherin common room together.
âI actually enjoyed myself tonight Draco.â You admitted with a smile.
âI did to, Y/n. We should do it more often.â He smirked.
You rolled your eyes, âIn your dreams, Draco.â You chuckled before to go to your dorm.
Leaving him standing in the common room, with his heart beating a few beats fasterâŚ
Mattheo Riddle
FORBIDDEN ROMANCE OMG
You both kept your distance from each other for a long while.
You didnât want to associate with the son of the man who killed your parents.
And Mattheo didnât give a crap about you.
You only began to associate with each other in fifth year when you became friends with Lorenzo.
Which lead to you being included into the Slytherin gang.
You decided to put your differences aside for the sake of your friend.
Youâre not super close with many of them, Mattheo included.
But you have a sort of playful relationship.
You guys banter SO MUCH!
Whether itâs insulting each other or sometimes being flirty.
Harry is SIDE EYEING yâall from across the great hall.
You find Mattheo insufferable in a weird endearing way.
Sixth year hit and youâve decided to start living it up by attending parties with the gang.
Ravenclaw had beat Hufflepuff in quidditch which made the perfect excuse to throw a party.
You and Pansy had spent the evening getting ready together in your dorm.
âWe look hot~â you commented while admiring her and yourself in your full body mirror.
âWe do~ Now letâs go-â Pansy grabbed your hand and dragged you out of the dorm.
Once at the party, you had a drink to ease your nerves before you decided to join the growing circle of people playing spin the bottle. Many of your friends were sat, including Lorenzo, Mattheo, and Theo.
You sat yourself beside Lorenzo, âWhat are we spinning the bottle for?â You asked, almost yelling over the music.
âBody shots!â Lorenzo smirked at you playfully.
âFun!â You grinned.
Eventually Mattheoâs turn came and the bottle landed on you. Gasps and ooos filled the circle, making you scoff. Mattheo only grinned as he grabbed the bottle of fire whiskey and a shot glass.
Ron and Hermione had to hold back Harry from causing a scene.
âCâmere, Y/n~â Mattheo smirked, motioning you over.
You rolled your eyes and walked over to him, all while he unbuttoned his shirt.
You got on your knees in front of him, squeezing your thighs together as you cunt throbbed at the sight of his bare chest.
Mattheo smirked down, âReady?â Once you nodded he poured the alcohol down his bare torso.
You didnât hesitate to begin licking all of the liquor off his torso, savouring the way the fire whiskey burned down your throat.
Mattheo couldnât stop himself from getting hard at the sight of you on your knees for him staring up at him with lusty half lidded eyes. It made him feel things he knew he shouldnât feel towards.
The crowd wooed and whistled as you finished licking his chest having made sure to not miss a drop.
âThanks for the shot, Matty~â you purred, winking at him, your cheeks equally as red as his.
You got up from your knees and returned to your spot beside Lorenzo. Once sat, you took a deep breath to calm yourself down.
You hadnât expected to have gotten so turned on. It felt so wrong to be attracted to Mattheo.. but you couldnât help yourself when all you could think about was his dark lustful gazeâŚ
Theodore Nott
You and Theodore became friends in first year.
Theodore was a bit of a loner, like yourself so you got along right away.
Because of this, you always paired up together in your classes.
Especially in potions which you both excel at. Unlike your brother, you inherited your motherâs potions skills.
You guys have definitely have bonded over dead moms/parents.
In fifth year you both became more acquainted with Draco and his gang.
It brought you guys out of your shells.
And further ruined your relationship with your brother but you didnât really care.
You had Theo by your side and thatâs all that mattered.
Although youâre âjust friendsâ thereâs definitely feelings at play.
Seeing everyone around you get into relationships made you yearn for one yourself.
Since youâre so close with Theo already you couldnât help but think about being with him.
Heâs such a pretty boy, with his hazel eyes, dirty blond hair and Italian accent.
Theodore had a little thing for you phase in third year.
He considers it a phase but the feelings never truly left.
The both of you are way to afraid to confess to each other in fear of ruining your friendship and of the retaliation from your families.
It was a Friday night and the gang had decided to sneak out of the castle to go swimming in the Black Lake.
Somehow the whole gang managed to bypass Filch and Mrs. Norris, even though the lot of you were giggling loudly at each other.
Once out of the main doors, you all ran to the rocky shores of the lake and spread out all of your towels.
Theo sat down and lit up a cigarette with Mattheo, while you took off your (Theoâs) shirt and your pj pants. Revealing your tiny bikini.
Mattheo wolf whistled at you, âLooking good Potter~â he teased.
âFuck off Riddle-â you said playfully and rolled your eyes at him.
âShut it.â Theo muttered to Mattheo as he took a drag of his cigarette.
Mattheo looked at him, a grin spreading on his face, âWhat was that, Theo? You jealous or something? Donât like me talking to your girl?â
âIâm not.â Theo denied as he watched you get into the water with Lorenzo, Pansy, and Draco.
He avoided Mattheoâs gaze to look at you and the others in the water.
Theo clenched his jaw as he observed you and Draco play in the water. Jealousy bubbled in the pit of his stomach.
âSure you are.â Mattheo scoffed unconvinced.
âFuck off-â Theo shoved Mattheo lightly.
He took another deep drag of his cigarette in an attempt to ease his nerves.
âTheo!â You called from the water, âStop smoking and get in the water!â You grinned joyfully at him.
Theo could feel his heart skip a beat at your radiant smile.
âTheo come on!â You called out again.
âAlright alright, bella-â He chuckled before putting out his cigarette and getting up.
He took off his shirt and jogged towards the water.
You giggled and grabbed his arm to pull him the rest of the way.
There was no way he could let Draco have youâŚ
Lorenzo Berkshire
Lorenzo has prided himself in his academics.
He has good grades in all of his classes.
Except in history of magic. Heâs actually failing the class.
Look it isnât his fault! Professor Binns is just such a bore.
Seeing as Lorenzo was failing, Professor Binns assigned you, Y/n Potter as his tutor.
Lorenzo was pretty happy about having a cute girl tutoring him.
Youâve intrigued him since first year but heâs never had the chance to talk to you.
But now he sees you twice a week for tutoring.
And honestly you donât get much tutoring done.
Lorenzo is just so engaging and interesting that you just forget about what youâre there to do.
âMerlin, Lorenzo! We need to focus!â You giggled as you realized how much time you spent conversing.
âOops!â He giggled.
You found yourself easily charmed by the boy. He was very refreshing to hang out with.
He wasnât like the other Slytherins who gave you the cold shoulder and looked at you sideways.
Exams were in a week and Lorenzo desperately needed your tutoring if he wanted to pass history of magic.
You both decided to increase the amount of tutoring youâd be doing per week in preparation.
It was the day before exams started and your last day of tutoring.
You made the plan to study in his dorm instead of the library as you found the latter to busy. Lorenzo made sure to kick out his roommates and clean up his area in preparation.
You met up in his dorm after class and wasted no time in taking out all of your notes and textbooks out.
âOk, Lorenzo.â You said sternly. âNo more funny business we need to focus.â You sat on his bed.
He sat in front of you, nodding in agreement, âI really need to pass this exam or my dad will kill me.â He said and got his own notes out.
âAlright. Iâm going to quiz you on some stuff. Look over your notes and tell me when youâre ready.â You instructed as you organized a few papers.
Lorenzo nodded and began looking over his notes, desperately trying to not get distracted at the thought that you, a cute girl was in his dorm and sitting on his bed.
âOkay I think Iâm ready.â He announces after a few minutes and put his notes to the side.
âOkay⌠question one..â you began.
You quizzed Lorenzo for the next half hour. He was truly trying his best. What motivated him the most was the praise you gave him after each right answer.
âGood job!â âAtta boy!â âYouâre doing great!â âThatâs right!â
Every single one gave him butterflies.
Eventually he managed to get all of them right.
âYou got every single question right!â You exclaimed with a big grin, â Well done! Iâm sure youâre going to pass!â
âYou really think?â He smiled shyly.
âOf course!â You said reassuringly.
You checked your watch, you had finished your quizzing just on time.
You began to pack up your stuff, ready to head back to your dorm to do some studying of your own.
âThank you, for all of the tutoring.â Lorenzo thanked as he helped you.
âItâs no problem at all, youâre fun to tutor.â You admit shyly, âGood luck on your exam.â You bided him before leaving.
Lorenzo watched you leave, making a note to himself to ask you out on a date after exams..
Blaise Zabini
You and Blaise got paired up for a project in potions once.
You both werenât thrilled because you didnât really get along.
At least you werenât paired up with Seamus.
And in a way it worked out well for Blaise because he didnât have to partner up with any of his idiot friends and have to do all of the work.
You did so well on the project together that Professor Slughorn decided to continue paring you guys up.
Hanging out with Blaise was now unavoidable.
Your interactions went from uninterested, cold and limited to being much more frequent and nicer.
Being much friendlier to each other also helped you work even better together.
âHey, Zabini? How do you cut these roots again?â You asked quietly, glancing over at him.
âOh you cut them in half and then..â he leaned over to help you.
You couldnât help but be shy about the close proximity between you two.
He was close enough that you could smell his piney aftershave and his minty breath.
Not to mention his voice was so deep and smooth as he talked.
You snapped quickly out of it and focused back on what he was saying.
âOh right. Thanks.â You thanked him and proceeded to cut the ingredient as he instructed.
âSâno prob.â He said, hesitating before leaving your side.
Since you were already doing so much work together, it was easier to just study together as well.
This resulted in you two spending more time together.
The library became you main hangout spot.
Away from his annoying friends who always burst into his dorm asking stupid questions just for the sake of bothering you two.
âDo you understand what question 8 means? I completely forgot what Professor Bins said about it.â Blaise asked, furrowing his brows with a sigh.
âUh let me see..â you leaned over to read his parchment.
While you muttered the question to yourself, Blaise couldnât help but stare at your focused face.
You looked cute, bitting your cheeks as you played with a strand of your curly hair. He could tell you had just washed it because you smelled strongly of lavender.
âUm I just wrote down thisâŚâ you sat up and grabbed your parchment.
You guys only considered yourselves acquaintances.
Yeah you found each other attractive.
Youâre both attractive people after all and you were just acknowledging the obvious ok?
You two truly were oblivious idiots who couldnât realize you had crushes on each other.
You were headed to what you thought would be another ordinary potions class.
You sat down beside Blaise and took out all your supplies, ready for whatever Professor Slughorn was going to make you guys brew.
After a bit of waiting, Slughorn began his lesson. âToday, we will be learning about Amortentia. Can anyone tell me what this potion does?â
Hermione shot up her hand eager to answer.
âYes, Miss Granger?â Slughorn picked her.
âItâs a love potion sir.â She answered
âCorrected, ten points for Griffindor!â Professor Slughorn grinned.
He went on about the lesson, talking about the potionâs history and the risk involved with brewing it and its results.
âNow that weâre done with the lesson, I invite you all to come up and smell this batch of Amortentia I brewed just for this class.â Slughorn said enthusiastically.
You watched as your classmates went up and smelled the potion.
It was amusing seeing how many answered with a stutter and returned to their seats with reddened cheeks.
Finally it was your turn and you had no idea what you would smell.
You leaned down to take a deep inhale of the potion and the overhwhelming sent of Pine and mint flooded your senses.
âAnd what do you smell Miss Potter?â Your Professor asked.
You hesitated before speaking, âPine and mint sir.â You answered.
Then the realization hit you and your eyes grew wide.
You smelled Blaise.
You blushed in embarrassment and kept your head down as you walked back to your desk.
âWho did you smell?â Blaise asked you curiously.
Before you could give him a half assed answer you were interrupted.
âMr Zabini! Your turn!â Professor Slughorn announced.
Blaise got up from his seat and approached the potion.
It took a few smells for him to realize what he was smelling wasnât your scent lingering on him. The potion itself smelled like lavender.
The gears in his head began to turn and it all began to fit. He smelled your shampoo.
He felt his cheeks heat up a bit from embarrassment and he quickly glanced at you.
Class was going to be very interestingâŚ

Love you all to Jupiter and back. Take care. đ
Itâs a slow day. Every day is slow out in Tumble Down. The townshipâs name tells the whole story. Everything there is in decline. Itâs hard to imagine there was ever a time when the people werenât tiny and forgotten in the hubbub of the bigger world. Since the mines closed and the canning factory was outsourced, it feels even smaller.Â
Smaller isnât so bad. Itâs simpler. You all know each otherâs names and faces. You say hi and how are you and do what needs to be done. Simple is, simple as.Â
You here there isnât much to do in most small towns. Not for fun or for work. Youâre one of the lucky ones. You got a job down at the diner in your sophomore year. It helped pay for your daddyâs new engine and since then, it keeps you all afloat in the rising waters of disparity as they close in on Tumble Down.Â
You hum to the old radio that sits on the shelf you make sure to dust. The speakers crackle from time to time and the signal gets wonky in storm season, but the musicâs never bad. Itâs the classic stuff that always played in your motherâs kitchen.Â
You wipe down another table. Not because it needs it, just because itâs something to do. The day has been long and listless. Even the breakfast rush was lower than usual.Â
Darnell, the cook, whistles along from the back. Everyone knows he isnât as mean as he looks. He just likes his space.Â
As you go back to the counter and lean on it, staring at the ticking clock, a roar cuts through the distance. You blink and look up, narrowing your eyes at the dusty country road outside. Wind rustles through the tall wheat in the field opposite and the noise rumbles closer and closer.Â
A man pulls in a motorbike. Heâs going so fast that he has to circle the gravel lot before he can slow down. Itâs not Lenny and his prized Harley but another man on a more modern-looking mount. Not far behind, another motorcycle zips through and the riders straddle their bikes as the survey the restaurant.Â
You narrow your eyes. You probably need glasses but you make do. The last time you got your eyes checked, you didnât have enough for the frames.Â
The one man wears blue and red, an odd helmet on his head. Not a helmet at all but a sort of mask. The other man has dark hair to his chin and a beard to match. Heâs all in black but his left arm shines with gold ripples. Not a sleeve, an arm, made of metal.Â
âOh my lord,â you murmur in shock, âDarnell!â You holler over your shoulder, âyouâre not gonna believe this.â You turn to the window as he pokes his head around, ânot sure I do myself. Tell me my eyes arenât lyinâ.âÂ
He looks above your head, an easy task for the mammoth cook. He hums and swirls around his spatula. âThems those boys on the news. The one that was in the old war. Grandadâs battle.âÂ
âIâm not going crazy with boredom?â You bubble.Â
He snorts. Itâs as close to a laugh as you get from him. You spin back and hurry around the counter to grab a pair of menus. Still, you donât want to seem too eager. You put down the menus and fiddle with a napkin holder instead.Â
The bell over the door jingles and swipe up the menus and turn. You really canât believe itâs them. Yet, as Captain America removes his cowl, youâre certain. They look just like they do on the TV. Even with your sight, you can tell.Â
âHello, fellas, how are you doinâ today?âÂ
The dark-haired one, the Winter Soldier, glances at the other, his cheek dimpling, âwell... weâre... uh...âÂ
âWeâre doing great,â Steve Rogers answers brightly. âStarving. You guys serve bacon? My buddyâs dying for some.âÂ
âUm, yes, sirs, yes. Can I sit ya down?â You ask, hugging the menus closer.Â
âPlease,â the Captain accepts as the other man stays silent and pensive, his eyes wandering down to the coffee stain on your apron.Â
âJust here,â you sweep away and wave them on with you. You stop beside the nicest booth and lay down a menu on each side, âhave a seat.âÂ
They do just as you bid. The blond puts his cowl on the table and unhooks the shield from his back to lay on the far end of the seat. He smooths back the sweaty strands of hair as his companion stretches his metal fingers. You sway nervously by the table, twitching as you remind yourself how to do your job.Â
âWell, can I get ya started with coffee? You look beat from the road.â You beam with the smile Mr. Welk says could outshine the sun.Â
âNot just the road,â the dark-haired one mutters as he rolls his shoulder. The one that connects to his real arm. âIll take one, please.âÂ
âCan I get an orange juice, please,â the Captain asks.Â
âCourse ya can. Iâll be right back. You have a look at the specials and give it a think,â you bounce and spin around.Â
You go to pour the orange juice and a cup of black coffee. Darnell lingers by the window. He only ever really appears to put a plate up but he watches the new arrivals.Â
You bring their drinks and step back, clasping your hands behind you.Â
âDid ya need cream or sugar for your coffee, sir?â You ask.Â
âBlackâs fine,â he assures.Â
âNo need for the sirs. Steve, Bucky,â Captain America insists, âweâre off duty.âÂ
âRight, sorry about that, ssss...Steve,â you correct yourself. âYou need some more time?âÂ
âThink Iâm decided,â Bucky intones, âwhat about you?âÂ
âSet,â Steve confirms, âIâll have the sunny side up with toast and sausage. Can I get some fruit on the side as well, please?âÂ
He hands over the menu and you take it as you hold your smile. Your cheeks ache. Not because you have to force it but because you canât stop. This is the most exciting thing to happen in Tumble Down ever. If Darnell wasnât there, no one would believe you.Â
âOvereasy, bacon, extra bacon too, and some french toast, and uh... home fries.â Bucky offers up the second menu, âplease and thank you.âÂ
âAlrighty,â you preen, âIâll put your order in.âÂ
âGot it,â Darnell growls over the empty diner.Â
âHeâs got good hearing,â you giggle nervously as you look between the men. âUmmmm, sorry, Iâll leave ya be.âÂ
âYouâre not bothering,â Steve assures. âI can see youâre dying to ask.âÂ
He gives a gentle smile.Â
âNah, oh, gosh. Iâm sure ya get it all the time. I donât wanna be one of those,â you put your hands up. âReally, you all look like you could use the peace and quiet.âÂ
âWell, actually, Iâve been stuck with this meathead for days,â Bucky scoffs, âso please, Iâd love to hear someone elseâs voice.âÂ
You laugh again. Theyâre funnier than you expect. They always look so serious on the TV.Â
âWhat... what are yâall doing here in Tumble Down? Itâs a bit far from... anywhere.â You ask sheepishly.Â
âTumble Down? Is that what itâs called?â Steve scratches his neck above his stained collar. âWell, we couldnât get a signal so weâve just been riding through. Saw the sign down the way and figured weâd get a bite.âÂ
âHeâs lying. He was falling asleep on his bike,â Bucky teases.Â
âSure,â Steve shakes his head. âOnly âcause Iâm tired of you.âÂ
You giggle again, âI thought yâall were friends.âÂ
âFriends, partners, cursed with each other, have your pick,â Bucky snorts.Â
âHeâs playing,â Steve says. âLook, weâre boring. Despite what you think. Weâre a couple of old men bickering with each other. What about you? What about Tumble Down?âÂ
âAh, nothing really, sir. Steve,â you squeeze the menus tight at the edges. âNothing going on since the coal law and that. Everyoneâs all but run out. All but us.âÂ
âJust you? Your family?â Steve wonders.Â
âJesus, Steve, nosy much?â Bucky says over the brim of his mug.Â
âSorry. Heâs right. Like I said. Crotchety old man. I talk to the pigeons.âÂ
You laugh again, âoh my, you are a hoot!â You slap your thigh emphatically, âIâm still my ma and pa. Itâs just the three of us. They need help with the animals and that.âÂ
âAnimals?â Steve wonders, his posture shifting towards you.Â
âChickens, cows. They got a farm. Was my grandpaâs. And his ma kept it going after he didnât come home from... well, youâd know more about that time than me, I think.â You give a forlorn look to the floor.Â
âOh, Iâm so sorry about your grandfather. Great grandfather,â he corrects himself.Â
âLotta good men gone,â Bucky mulls grimly.Â
âYeah, my great granny said as much. I wouldnât know though, but I heard the stories,â you dare to look at them again. âSorry to bring up the bad memories.âÂ
âNah,â Bucky waves you off casually. âI got this nifty arm outta it.âÂ
âAnd I got a shield so, you know, not all losses,â Steve chuckles.Â
âI sâpose,â you agree. âIâm gonna check on that food for ya. You good with your coffee?âÂ
Bucky raises the mug, âdelicious.âÂ
You nod and turn with a swish of your skirt. You go up to the window and look over the ledge. âHowâs it going, Darnell?âÂ
âGoing. Iâm happy it ainât Raylene here. Sheâs got a mouth on her, donât she? Them sort donât deserve that trouble,â he tisks.Â
âTheyâre nice. And Raylene is too. Sheâs just... Raylene,â you say, âcan I help with anything?âÂ
âI donât wanna be rude but Iâm tired of tellinâ ya to stay outta my kitchen. You know the grill likes to spit,â he shakes his head. âYou go, Iâll let ya know when itâs ready.âÂ
âAlright,â you back away and turn back.Â
Steve and Bucky lean over the table, their voices low as they chat. As you move around behind the counter, they both sit up and the former clears his throat. You smile as you take the cloth from your apron pocket and wipe the already clean counter.Â
As the radio buzzes, you hum without thinking. Stevie Ray Vaughanâs smoky voice mingles with the emotion plucked through electric strings. Your dadâs a big fan. He has old tapes with concerts on them and even went to one himself.Â
The bell rings and you nearly jump out of your shoes. You turn and scoop up the plates as you thank Darnell. He grumbles that heâs going out to have a smoke; his code for having a Tootsie Pop by the backdoor.Â
You bring the meals over to the table and set them down before the men. Their gazes make you sweat. Itâs all a little more intense with no one else there.Â
âThank you,â Steve says and Bucky echoes him.Â
âNot at all. Anything else? Water? Ketchup?âÂ
âIt all looks great as is,â Steve says, âyou got a nice voice.âÂ
âOh, really? Ha, I was just humming out of tune. Sorry if I was too loud.âÂ
âNot at all,â Bucky picks up his fork as he leans forward. He tilts his head. âYou know this one?âÂ
âSure do. Itâs Fleetwood Mac,â you answer. âOne my all times.âÂ
He grins and nods as he looks at Steve. Steve watches you with a smile of his own.Â
âDo you sing?â He asks.Â
âMe? Only in my shower or to the chickens. They usually hide in the henhouse then.â You tinkle with laughter.Â
âAh,â Steve nods.Â
âBut if... if ya really wanna suffer, I could try it,â you smile, âbut uh, you know, Stevie Nicks, sheâs one of a kind.âÂ
âIâve had worse,â Steve says.Â
You look between him and Bucky. You chew your lip and think. You follow the song as you try to recognise which verse it is. You squint and perk up as you catch your place.Â
âYou just let me know when youâve had enough,â you say before you start. Not only can you tell your pa that you met the super soldiers, you can tell him you sang for them. Itâll be a nice bit of excitement for the dinner table.Â

The drunk woman was relentless, invading Tommy's personal space as he tried to step back. He kept flashing his ring, but either she hadn't noticed or simply didn't care. Tommy glanced at his watch, grateful Evan hadn't arrived yet to see this mess.
"I'm just a poor girl all alone and new to the city," she slurred, pressing closer. "Can you help me get home safely? You can drive me, and then you can come up and I can thank you properly." She traced a finger down his arm. "I'm sure your wife wouldn't mind."
'Okay, she just doesn't care,' Tommy thought, taking a step back.
"I'm sure the bartender would be happy to call a cab for you," he said firmly.
"But you're so big and strong. I would feel so protected," she pouted, swaying slightly.
"I'm flattered, but I'm sure you'll be plenty safe," Tommy said, maintaining his distance. "And my husband won't like you all over me."
"Husband?" the woman spat, her flirtatious demeanor instantly shifting. "Seriously, you're gay?" Her slurred voice dripped with disdain.
It was at that exact moment that Evan appeared.
"Oh, he's very, very gay," Evan said, draping his arms over Tommy's shoulders and pulling him in for a steamy kiss.
"Hi, baby," Tommy said when they broke apart, his earlier tension melting away at his husband's presence.
"You can go now," Evan said dismissively to the woman.
"You're the husband?" she scoffed, looking Evan up and down with obvious judgment. "What a waste."
"What's that supposed to mean?" Evan asked, his voice sharpening. Tommy could feel him tensing up beside him.
"Not worth it, sweetheart," Tommy said softly, squeezing Evan's hand. He knew that tone in his husband's voice - the one that meant someone had struck a nerve.
"No, I want to know," Evan insisted, his jaw set. The playful possessiveness from moments ago had been replaced by something harder, more defensive. "What exactly is being wasted here?"
"Your lifestyle," she sneered, waving her hand dismissively. "Two big, strong, handsome men shacking up together."
"Shacking up?" Evan said, his voice dangerously quiet. The woman had crossed a line, and Tommy knew his husband well enough to recognize when he was about to snap.
"We're not shacking up," Evan continued, holding up his left hand where his wedding ring caught the bar lights. "We're married. Legally married. I walked down an aisle, said vows, signed papers, and promised to love this man for the rest of my life. And you know what? It was the best decision I ever made."
Tommy's heart swelled, watching his husband defend their marriage.
"So no, it's not a waste. What would be a waste is if I pretended to be something I'm not just to make people like you comfortable. Now if you'll excuse us, I'd like to have a drink with my husband."
"You people," the girl said, shaking her head in disgust.
Tommy felt Evan stiffen next to him, ready for another round, but this time Tommy stepped forward. He'd let Evan handle it his way, now it was his turn.
"Ah, 'you people,'" Tommy said, his voice calm but firm. "Let me tell you about 'us people.' My husband and I are first responders. We put our lives on the line every single day for others - including people who think like you do. I spent years hiding who I was because of that kind of hatred, afraid to be myself. But then I finally accepted who I really was, and that opened my heart to the possibility of love. And I found it - real, earth-shattering, life-changing love."
He pulled Evan closer, feeling his husband relax against him. "So the only waste here would be letting people like you make us ashamed of something so beautiful."
Tommy turned away from the woman, effectively dismissing her. "Come on, baby."
The woman slunk away into the crowd, her previous bravado gone.
"You ok, babe?" Evan asked, turning to Tommy with concern.
"Are you kidding?" Tommy said, pulling him closer by his belt loops. "That was extremely sexy watching you tell her off like that. Look how far my little baby bi has come."
"Couldn't have done it without you," Evan said softly.
"You know, I'm actually more hungry than thirsty," Tommy said, wiggling his eyebrows suggestively.
"Oh, is that so?" Evan replied, a knowing smirk spreading across his face."Well, we should probably do something about that."
"Yeah, we probably better," Tommy said, pulling Evan in for a heated kiss.
When they broke apart, Evan was speechless. He shook his head. "But not here."
"Right, right, let's get out of here."
They stumbled out of the bar together, Tommy tugging Evan along by their joined hands. Their laughter mixed with the night air, any trace of anger long forgotten replaced by the joy of just being together.

Okay, you know that hc where Tim Reincarnates as The Trash of the Bat Family? It got me thinking of him scamming and making the "Real League of Assassins". He integrates Pru, Z and Owens early, makes them his people (or assassins disguised as servants).
"Where's the coffee?"
Owens, pouring chamomile tea, "We're all out of coffee, Sir."
"Energy drinks?"
Pru, throwing a trash bag away. "All gone too, Sir."
He integrates Kon before he experiences the SA with Tana Moon and other ladies, and Kon becomes his bodyguard.
"Are we doing something bad?"
"Oh, we're doing something veeeeery bad. To Lex Luthor."
Tim rescuing Damian.
"You're Damian Al Ghul Wayne. You're an Al Ghul and a Wayne. You can do whatever you want. I'm not taking care of you."
Damian, not trusting this lying bastard, secretly follows him around. Tim knows Damian is, and begrudgingly just accepts Damian into his fold until he reaches Gotham again.
"If you die, Timothy, I will dominate the world, kill everyone, and then myself."
I love these additions so much!!!
The "Real League of Assassins" is such a petty name, and I live for it. Just Tim as a kid and his little League of Assassins (depending on how far back he went into the past and how soon he aquires the OG best assassin squad). It would be double hilarious if his "Real League of Assassins" doesn't actually kill anyone, but I also respect Tim's right to commit murder however he deems fit. I like to imagine how mad Ra's would get at the name.
Part of Tim's asshole cover comes from Pru. There's two ways this can go. One, Pru is her complete self in front of everyone (she will break someone's nose no matter their price tag). This causes major scandals and issues for Tim cause how could he hire someone who behaves like that? Or Two, Pru is creepily pleasant and respectful around other company, and Tim continues to act like usual around her. This causes people to pity Pru for having such a horrible boss.
I also live for Bodyguard Kon AUs. You know the two of them are playing a "I know your sickly Victorian child looking ass can beat me up, but I will pretend I don't know this until you tell me why" with a "please stop saving me from every small things because I know you know a sunburn isn't going to kill me." It's dealer's choice on how soon Kon finds out about Tim's vigilante gig. Also, if Kon is a bodyguard in this, is he also Superboy or the equivalent? Does he become a superhero once he finds out about Tim's heroism? There's no way Kon would stick around Tim if he believed the persona Tim kept up.
Cue Tim accidentally forming the YJ again, but this time it's hidden from the JL radars and is a closely guarded secret.
As far as Damian, I absolutely love that quote you included. It's so Damian coded and I live for him threatening to take over the world. I also want to see Tim's reaction and how concerned he is over Damian threatening to kill himself. As an older brother, he legit could care less about Damian managing to kill the entire world. It's Damian wanting to die that scares him.
As far as the AU, Tim is trying so hard to distance himself from the Waynes that his dumbass shouldn't have picked up Damian in person. He was probably too anxious to leave it to someone else, but now he has a tiny suspicious assassin who reluctantly became fond of him.
There's a few different ways this can play out.
One, Tim picks up Damian in his vigilante costume and never unmasks to Damian. The little tot starts to think of this vigilante as maybe a brother before being given to Bruce (angst of abandonment tied with identity shenanigans. How soon does Damian realize that Timothy "Trash" Drake is the one to save him from the League?).
Two, Tim starts off with his secret identity in tact but reveals himself while traveling back. They bond, Damian is left at Bruce's, and, to the surprise of literally all the Waynes, the kid is seen constantly talking to the complete jerk Timothy Drake. Damian is actually nicer to this douchebag stranger than he is to some of his family members. What's equally shocking is how kind Tim is to Damian. Tim hasn't been cruel to children before, but he hasn't gone out of his way to be nice either. This cues investigations into Tim by the batfam.
Three, Damian refuses to go live with his dad and sticks around Tim when they return to Gotham. Depending on when Tim rescues Damian, Tim's fake uncle adopts Damian, and they become brothers legally. When Bruce finds out Damian is his son, he doesn't take the excuse, "I found him on the streets!" from Tim seriously.
#dc comics#dc universe#tim drake#dc au#damian wayne#kon el#dc prudence#thank you for the ask!!!!#y'all remember to be careful when adding romantic relationships to time travel#timkon is cute but the age difference (even though Tim's body regresses) could get spooky here

Distant echoes 2
Gojo Satoru x Reader
Arranged marriage AU
Summary : The time of an old pact, promising your hand to the heir of the Gojo clan, has come. It is now your wedding, how will the two of you continue from here?
Wordcount : 1,2K
Warnings : Angst, distant gojhoe, feeling sad, loneliness, efforts of making things better not being appreciated >:(
AN : this is part two! Part one
The penthouse was quiet, almost too quiet. The kind of silence that had weight, pressing down on me like the realization that this was my life now.
I sat at the kitchen counter, staring at the neatly packed bento box I had spent the last hour preparing. It was simple, but I had made sure to include all the things Iâd heard he likedâmiso-glazed salmon, a few vegetables, and some rice shaped carefully into little balls. It wasnât much, but it was something. A small attempt to bridge the unspoken distance between us.
I glanced at the clock. He was supposed to be back by now. He had said heâd come by to grab some things before heading to the school. I wasnât sure if he meant to take the lunch Iâd made. Maybe he wouldnât. He rarely took notice of the little things I did around here.
With a quiet sigh, I stood up and walked over to the window, my fingers resting lightly on the cold glass. The city below was aliveâpeople going about their day, living their lives, free. I watched them sometimes, wondering what it would have been like to have a choice in mine. Would I have still ended up here? Married to a man like Gojo Satoru? Or would I have been living a quieter, simpler life far away from the world of sorcerers and clans?
I shook the thought away. It didnât matter now. I had promised myself I would make the best of this, even if I had to do it alone.
The first few days after the wedding were the hardest. The house was too big, too empty, and Gojo⌠well, Gojo didnât seem to care much about spending time in it. He rarely stayed overnight, and when he did, it was in the guest room. I didnât mind that so muchâsharing a bed wouldâve been too awkward, too much too soonâbut the constant absence⌠that hurt more than I expected.
At first, I tried to be patient. I knew this wasnât what he wanted. We were both pawns in a game neither of us had asked to play. But even knowing that didnât stop the sting of his coldness. He never yelled or raised his voice. He wasnât mean, not in the traditional sense. But the way he looked at me, or rather, the way he didnât look at me, made it clear he was keeping his distance.
I couldnât help but wonder if he hated me.
I wasnât naive. I knew what people said about meâtoo quiet, too shy, too passive. Someone like Gojo, with his larger-than-life presence, probably found me boring. The few times we had exchanged words, it had been about mundane things, small conversations about when heâd be back or if he wanted me to pick up groceries. He always answered politely but never lingered long enough to let the conversation grow into something more.
But still, I wanted to try.
I had started leaving small gestures around the house. Things I hoped he might notice. A clean kitchen, his clothes folded neatly after Iâd done the laundry, meals prepared in the fridge. Nothing extravagant, just enough to show I was trying. I thought maybe heâd say something, acknowledge it. Maybe even thank me.
But he never did. Every time he came by, it was like I wasnât even there. Heâd grab his things, maybe say a quick âsee you later,â and leave.
And every time, I was left standing alone in the quiet, wondering if this was how it would always be.
I sat back down at the counter, staring at the bento box again. My fingers traced the edge of the container as I bit my lip. Why did it feel so hard to talk to him? To say something that wasnât about practical things or politeness? I wanted to ask him how his day was, how he really felt about all of this. I wanted to know if he was as lost as I was.
But every time I tried, the words caught in my throat. Maybe because I was afraid of the answer. Afraid that he really did resent me for being here. For being his wife.
A key turned in the lock, and my heart skipped a beat. He was back.
I quickly stood, smoothing down the front of my apron and trying to calm the nervous flutter in my chest. I shouldnât be this anxious every time he came home, but I couldnât help it.
Gojo stepped inside, his white hair slightly tousled, wearing his usual casual uniform. He didnât glance in my direction at first, walking over to the living room to grab a duffel bag he had left there earlier.
âHey,â he said offhandedly, his voice as nonchalant as always. âIâm just grabbing a few things. Iâll be out of your way soon.â
I forced a small smile, even though I knew he wasnât really looking at me. âI made you lunch,â I said softly, gesturing to the bento box on the counter.
He paused for a second, his eyes flickering toward it. âOh. Thanks.â His voice was polite but distant, like he was acknowledging it more out of obligation than anything else.
My heart sank. âI⌠I wasnât sure if youâd be hungry later,â I added quickly, trying to fill the silence. âSo I thought maybeâŚâ
But before I could finish, he slung the duffel over his shoulder and gave a brief nod. âIâll grab something later. Thanks, though.â
And just like that, he was gone.
The door clicked shut behind him, leaving me in the same heavy silence that seemed to follow him out. I stared at the uneaten bento, the neat little lunch that was now useless, and felt a tight knot form in my chest.
He hadnât even looked at me.
I slowly sank back down onto the stool, the faint hope I had been holding onto slipping further away. I knew he hadnât wanted this marriage any more than I had, but I hadnât expected to feel so⌠invisible.
I wasnât sure how long I sat there, the ticking of the clock on the wall the only sound in the room. Maybe I should stop trying so hard. Maybe I should just accept that this was how things were going to be. A marriage in name only, two people living in the same space but never really knowing each other.
But no matter how hard I tried to convince myself of that, there was still a part of me that clung to hope. Hope that one day he might look at me and see more than just a duty. That maybe, if I kept trying, heâd see the effort I was putting in and realize that I wasnât as indifferent to this as he seemed to be.
But for now, all I could do was wait. Wait and hope that the distance between us would eventually shrink, even if only by the smallest margin.
Because as much as I tried to tell myself that I didnât care, that his coldness didnât hurtâit did. It hurt more than I wanted to admit.
And the worst part was, I didnât know how to fix it.

Plot Idea #4:
A girl named (Y/n) was the daughter of a war general whose family always served closely to the royal army, having contact with the king himself. Her mother, on the other hand, was an old childhood friend of the queen of that time so she would bring her children to the castle for visits.
Thanks to this, (T/n) met the yandere prince when they were children, (without any of them being aware that this was only to arrange a marriage for them years later) so they spent a lot of time together playing and talking.
(T/n) was not an only child, as she had more siblings who due to medieval times, died due to diseases such as tuberculosis, including her mother. This saddened her to the point of making her a lonely person. Her father, having her as the only descendant in his lineage and little time to even get married; overprotected her due to fear of losing her, to the point of not letting her accompany him to the palace and leaving her at home in the company of her sisters ([Y/n]'s aunts) and governesses.
The yandere prince had already grown attached to her, as (Y/n) took him out of his monotonous prince life and her absence worried him, to the point of asking (Y/n)'s father repeatedly about his daughter. He knew about the loss of her siblings and mother due to tuberculosis, being the cause of her distancing herself so much due to depression.
He sees that she is not only more beautiful than before and how lonely she is, but how shy and distrustful she has become; he was also the one to blame for distancing himself from her due to his hard and arduous upbringing. He spends time with her and realizes that he is wanting her more and more, while she is still insecure. On the other hand, the old king is very proud of the educational and military work that (Y/n)'s father has done, so in his last days he not only arranges the marriage between (Y/n) and the yandere prince, but also promotes (Y/n)'s father and his family to a very good and high economic, political and social rank.
When the king dies, he leaves his queen a widow and the yandere prince is not only married to (Y/n), but is promoted to yandere king (and thus [Y/n] is promoted to queen). At first (Y/n) didn't want to get married and tried to protest to her father over and over again, but he told her:
-"Listen (Y/n), I don't like this very much either. At first your marriage wasn't a big deal even though the old king had proposed it, but now things are different. Your older and younger brothers, who are the ones who could bring this clan forward, have passed away along with your mother and for that reason our family only has you as a hope. I myself am getting old and you know it, and if something happens to me, there will be no one to look after you once I'm gone. I'm sorry, but we all have a responsibility to fulfill; that is yours and there are no other options."-.
While it was true that her father was getting old and he was quite right, she was nervous and insecure. On the other hand, the yandere prince was delighted with the marriage whose ceremony was finally very close. He promised to take care of her at all times, to the point of not stopping to watch her through guards or by himself. The yandere king introduced her and showed her off to everyone, but he also overprotected her from anyone the yandere king considered a threat, to the point of only allowing his father-in-law to visit her in the palace.
-The End.

CRUSH | MATTHEW GRAY GUBLER
I owe you a black eye and two kisses. Tell me when you wanna come and get âem.
Word Count: 1.8k
Warning/Includes: Long distance pining and mindless smut :)
Loving him is not enough.
Being in the same space and time as him is not enough.
You want to eat him alive. You want to devour him until there is nothing left but bits of bone and eyes. You want to hold him so close and so tight that you absorb him through your ribcage. You want to lock him inside your chest, and make sure he can never, ever get out.
It is a scary thing to realize. The chain that holds your heart to his mouth. The grip his hand has around your throat. The complete and total and suffocating need to be with him. Consumed by him.
It was never meant to get to this point. To this level of desperation. To this - I will fly across the world just to be with you type of connection. But it has. Being away from Matthew Gray makes you physically ill. Nauseated. Canât get out of bed sick to your fucking stomach. It takes days to come out of the thick fog, the loop in your brain that whispers, Matthew, Matthew, MatthewâŚ
You count down the days until you see him again. You get so close to being normal. You get so close to a hormonal and mental balance and he, once again, tips the scales completely. You get off a plane and take a 45 minute ride to his house and you donât look the same as when you first boarded but it does not matter and he could not care less. In the hours before you come, Matthew gets a horrible headache and the only thing that will soothe it is seeing you. That intoxicating rush of serotonin to both your brains when you get out the car and heâs waiting on the porch and you drop your bag at the top of the stairs and jump in his arms. He can barely feel his head.
He always tells you that you smell good and he proceeds to try to eat you alive before the door can close behind you. This can go on for a long time. The I forgot what you smell like and how your body feels against mine make out session. Always by the front door. Always vertical. Open mouths and slimy tongues and hands that are just on the verge of taking it too far. He backs you into the wall, and wants to choke you but that is Too Far so he stops kissing you and puts his forehead against yours. Neither of you can breathe and your mouths are dripping wet. Matthewâs eyes follow the path of his hand - over your neck, down your chest and around your waist. He wipes your mouth with his thumb, nuzzles his nose against yours and breathes out, âFucking missed you.â
You want to crawl inside his skin.
Before you go out to dinner, you let him finger you in the car. You didnât wear underwear beneath your dress and he wouldâve had a stroke if he didnât get his hands on you. In you. If he didnât, just once, put that spell on you that makes you go cross eyed and arch your body in an inhumane way. He parks the car behind the restaurant and gets to work and you lay all the way back in the seat with your dress around your hips. You come so hard that he has to cover your mouth while you scream. He runs his wet hand down your inner thigh and lays on top on you for a bit. You catch your breath, you fix your clothes. The entire ordeal makes you both so hungry.
Matthew orders an entire bottle of wine and you drink it only because itâs a fancy restaurant and you are dressed fancy so you must act fancy. But you finish the bottle and Matthew stops it there because he is just sober enough to drive. Just sober enough to get you home.
When you get to his house, youâre worried youâre going to piss yourself. Youâre laughing too hard and there are suddenly so many more stairs than there have ever been and Matthew is not helping. Heâs behind you, holding onto your waist, kissing your neck and whispering jokes in your ear and you cackle, âMatthew! Matthew! Stop! Iâm gonna piss myself.â But youâre tangling your hand in his hair because you donât want him to stop.
You rush to use the bathroom inside and when you come out, face splashed with water and one strap hanging off your shoulder, Matthew stares at you for a really long time. Thereâs always a palpable shift in the room. The air gets thicker. Matthewâs eyes get darker. He lays back against the bed, props his hands behind his head.
âCan you take your dress off?â he asks.
You tilt your head at him, so he adds, âPlease?â
And because he asked so nicely, you push your straps down your arms and let your dress slip off your body and youâre completely naked. It is awkward so far away so you crawl into bed with him and he immediately grabs your boobs. He canât choose which one to grope, but his other hand is busy gripping your hair and pulling you in for a sloppy kiss. Heâs never gentle, but heâs never rough from the start. Just forceful. Pinning both your legs between his and sucking on your neck.
You put your fingers between the button holes on his shirt. You pluck them off one by one, moan as he licks your jaw and holds you by the throat. He straddles you, traps your thighs between his, takes off his shirt. His hand is big enough to squeeze both your boobs in one palm and his nails dig into the soft skin of your chest. You feel him vibrating and it is just with this overwhelming urge to tear you apart. He always needs that hint, that glint in your eye that says: I am yours. Do what you please.
He kisses you real soft and peppers your face with little pecks and shifts down to take your nipple into his mouth. His mouth is hot to touch, burning and weaponed with a quick tongue. The tip of his tongue flicks against you so quickly that it shuts down your brain. He wants to sink his teeth into you but he channels it into this timely and taunting suction. He does this until youâre dizzy. Dizzy and rubbing your slick thighs together for any type of friction.
He canât keep his hands off of you. He touches your face and runs his hands down your waist as he puts himself between your legs. He looks down and spits on your pussy, this long drip of saliva falling directly on your clit. He settles on the bed so he can bury his face in you and you lose all tension in your body. Your toes curl up and you spread your legs wide for him and he puts his tongue inside you. You are an occasional five star meal and he is severely malnourished.
You tangle your hands in his hair and he will not take his eyes off you. He hooks your legs over his shoulders and writhes against the bed to put pressure on his cock. He canât stop moaning under his breath, and if you werenât so loud, you could hear him. His fingers slip into you so easily that itâs like they never stop. You feel them at the top of your pelvis and you start to claw at his back.
You say, âFuck, Iâm gonna come. Oh, fuck,â and Matthewâs body is washed in euphoria. You come with three loud grunts and fall limp on the mattress and Matthewâs pants are off before you can lift your head back up.
You hold his face in your hands as he kisses you. You wrap your arms around his neck and his hands hold your ribs and he rocks his hips and pushes into you. Your bodies just meld together and it is the one thing that will truly, quickly, put you at peace. Matthew puts his tongue in your mouth and says, âSpread your legs,â and starts pounding you into the mattress. His lips are just beside your ear so you hear every grunt and groan and breathy gasp and you try to burn it into your brain.
Every sound you make is involuntary. You canât hold your eyes open and you canât move and every time he pushes into you, your legs spasm and you whimper. He holds your jaw in his hand and his puts two fingers against your bottom teeth and you dig your nails into his arm. He gets tired of not seeing your face so he pushes your knee into your chest, bends you in half and gets as deep inside of you as he can. He watches you just crumble. Cry out like itâs uncontrollable. You grip his biceps, kiss him slow and watch his cock move in and out of you, watch it disappear all the way inside of you each and every time.
When youâre close, you reach for his face, grip his hair for dear life. He rubs your clit and kisses your neck and whispers in your ear, âCome for me, baby. Please? Please. I know it feels so good, come for me, my love.â
You Love when he uses the L word.
You love when he fucks you until you come and tells you that youâre a good girl and kisses you like heâs proud. He positions himself behind you and wraps his arm around your waist. âYou okay, baby?â he asks as he slides in and out of you, real slow. You nod, you say, âMhm,â and he puts his hand between your legs, rubs your clit, real soft.
Heâs getting there, heâs getting so sloppy. Messy thursts and his hand around his throat and the filthiest things being whispered in your ear. Your throat is getting raw, and you use the last of your air to come again. You push his hips away but he grabs your elbows and plows into you, saying, âIâm so close, baby, almost there, fuck. Youâre so good, baby, youâre gonna make me come.â
You face him, you kiss him and beg him to give it to you. Give it all to you. The very molecules of his being, the blood in his veins, the energy and matter that builds this man. You want it. Youâre craving it. He explodes inside of you and holds you close as the warmth radiates through your tummy.
It is not enough. Nothing is ever enough. He is never close enough, never near for long enough. You want to wear him around your neck, tattoo him into the deepest layers of your skin. You want him.
God, do you want him. All the fucking time.

Lead me to the truth and I will follow you with my whole life (joel miller x platonic!reader)
joel miller x platonic!reader
summary: perhaps now, twenty one years later, joel finally found the courage to face his fears. aka joel finally allows himself to accept the role he has in your life.
warnings: father-figure joel miller (more like an invitation rather than warning), fluff, slight angst at times, father-daughter duo kind of moments.
words count: 9.5k
a/n: joel miller was always the coolest father but pedro's portrayal took that to a whole new level. dedicated to all the daddy issues strugglers out there (myself included). here's the dad you deserved to have.
ps: this is my first work focused solely on joel's character so be patient with me. <3
enjoy!
"and I will go if you ask me to. and I will stay if you dare."
â˘
You were a mission, something that was supposed to have a beginning and the end. Someone he was supposed to lead to a given location and walk away. It was supposed to be easyâthat what Tess promised to Joel when she begged him to take you, fulfilling her dying wish. How easy it was for her to ask, how difficult it was for Joel to keep that promise.
There was a reason as for why was Joel so reluctant to take youâto temporarily care for you. Reason unknown to you. He was cold from the day you met him; made sure you knew all the rules and understood that whatever role you were going to assign him, he was not going to take it. After all, that was what he promised himself.
To keep his distance, to put the walls up and protect himself from the possibility of being hurt again. But you were too determined to tear them all down.
And at a certain point, he didnât know for whom he was fighting anymore. To protect himself from you or to protect you from him? Youâve encountered things, places, people and tragedies one could only fear.
And with each strike he took, with each throat he slit before they lied their hands on you, Joel fell deeper. Into the sense of protection that was rising within him each time a danger appeared in your sight. Before he knew it, he was in the same spot he was twenty years ago.
Thatâs when the breaking point came. And he turned around, grabbed your hand and walked back to the only place that couldâve offered you the life you deserved. And deep down hoped Tess wouldâve understood. In the end, he kept the promiseâhe made sure you were safe, more than that. He gave you the opportunity of the best life you couldâve had, given the fungal conditions around.
And you didnât protest, didnât utter a single objection. Because you wouldâve followed Joel to the edge of the universe and back.
Or at least to Jackson.
You arrived at dawn, holding tightly onto his back, nearly falling asleep on the horse. The last few weeks youâve spent outside were taking its toll on you. It was deadly cold out there with temperating falling down every second. You heard his voice, calling out your name three times before you opened your eyes. You were standing by the stables with Joelâs younger brother walking towards you.
âWeâre here,â Joel whispered.
âOh,â you yawned. âIâm sorry,â you pulled your hands away and slowly got off the horse with Tommy immediately offering his help.
âGood to see you,â he smiled politely, âboth of you,â his eyes landed on his brother.
You waited outside whilst Joel and Tommy stabled the horse.
âSo,â Tommy spoke again as soon as the three of you were together, âhow long is it this time?â
And your eyes met with Joel. He shrugged his shoulders and briefly looked at you before his eyes met with Tommyâs again.
Joel was never good with words which you learned pretty quickly. It was all about his subtle actionsâthatâs how the two of you bonded. For all those days on the road and nights under the dark skies, you never led any deep conversations, instead found a comfort in each otherâs presence. In your signals.
Being back in Jackson felt strange at first. Accustoming to such world after months in the wildness was odd to say the least. But it felt easier with Joel by your sideâor at least, thatâs what you were hoping for since he brought you here. Yet, after a few days in, you couldnât overlook the way he was trying to distance himself from you.
First, it was about the house.
With the previous one being given to a family that recently came to Jackson, Maria and Tommy had to find a new place for you.
âI wanted you to have something of your own,â Joel admitted one night whilst the two of you were sitting in the kitchen, eating leftovers. âBut Maria said theyâre full right now. As soon as something opens, I will let you know⌠if youâd like.â
You were caught off guard by that.
There was a part of you that hopedâno, that took this as a foregone conclusion that you and Joel would be living together. You couldnât even picture yourself being alone considering how accustomed youâve gotten to Joelâs constant presence. In certain sense, he represented some sort of safety blanket. He was the reason you came to Jackson in the first place.
Perhaps, you thought, now that his job was done, he might have thought that the two of you should go your separate ways. At the end of the day, he wasnât your familyâjust someone who was promised to look after you.
Perhaps, you were not as significant to him as he was to you. There were too many scenarios running through your anxious mind. But you never asked.
Then, it was the patrol duty.
When Tommy showed up at your doorstep, three days after your arrival, he mentioned that kids your age were starting to learn how to shoot so they could join the junior patrol groups.
âYou should go,â Joel proposed once Tommy left. âTommyâs good with guns. Youâre going to learn from the best.â
He sounded almost uninterested.
You looked up from your bowl of breakfast, hurt glancing in your eyes.
And he quickly became aware of that.
âWhat?â he asked and you didnât know whether it was care or rather annoyance that you heard in his voice.
âYou promised you were going to teach me how to shoot.â
There it was again in his eyesâthe regret.
He thought, with genuine worry in his heart, that giving you space was what you wantedâwhat you deserved. Without realising he was hurting you both in the process.
Joel didnât know how to walk in this, how to approach this new situation he found himself in. He wanted you around, he wanted to make sure were alright. But didnât know how.
That afternoon, when you left the house to join Tommy and the rest of the kids, Joel was already gone. His brother had him signed on old kinds of duty around the settlementâgiving him an opportunity to contribute. And as much as Joel complained and growled, he like the idea of being of useâbeing needed.
You arrived by the Tipsy Bison, joining the group of kids standing around and registered.
A young man, approximately in his early twenties looked upon the list of names he was holding before his eyes met with yours.
âYouâre signed on the East Gate, Tommyâs waiting for you there,â he informed you.
You squeezed the straps of your backpack as you walked by the stables, nervously looking around. You were still trying to adjust but it felt so difficult at times, especially when you were alone. Tommy was nice, considering he most likely knew nothing about you, beside what Joel must have told him. But you didnât felt that kind of safety you had around Joel.
Joel, who was standing three feet away from you, with riffle hanging over his shoulder.
Maybe he joined the patrol group as well, you thought as you headed towards him.
âDo you know where Tommy is?â you asked as you looked around, looking for his brother.
Joel frowned, almost offended.
âAm I not capable enough?â he mumbled playfully.
You couldnât quite comprehend what was going on.
âWhat?â
Before you uttered another mumble of confusion, Joel stepped closer and handed you the riffle.
âCâmon kid, itâs gonna be dark soon.â
The gate opened and Joel headed outside the safety, with you following his steps. There was a smile on your lips as you looked up and saw him, already explaining the route you were going to takeâthe high spots you were searching for. This was his way of apologisingâhis way of trying to do better.
Of making sure you knew that.
That day, you spent the whole afternoon together. What was supposed to be a regular two hour training that most kids took Joel turned into five, with the two of you coming back shortly after sundown, already past dinner time. It was the first time in a while you saw Joel genuinely laugh as he watched you struggling to reach the target.
You returned to Jackson with an empty magazine and one successful shot. But as you the two of you were walking home, side by sideâit didnât matter to you. It didnât matter how terrible your aim was, how much of Tommyâs ammo you waisted. What mattered to you was the look in Joel's eyes, the smile on his lips he had as he was watching you.
He let his guard down, even if it was just for a second. And there he wasâthe Joel that was watching stars with you on the road.
It was about these moments. They meant whole world to you.
âYou hungry?â he asked as you passed the dining hall.
You shook your head. âIâm alright. Besides, I think weâre already past the dinner time.â
âAre you sure? I havenât seen you eat since breakfast,â he commented. âI could make you something at home.â
Home.
It stuck with you.
He didnât think about it when he said that. Perhaps, that was the revelation you were waiting for. That Joel felt the same way and what you had was, indeed, a home.
Joelâs parental instincts were always there, no matter how determined he was to suppress them. Every night on the road, he stood by your side with gun in his hand, every time you fell asleep without ur blanket, Joel made sure you were tucked in. Each time he promised himself it would be the last. But always failed to do so.
Truth was, without the fear of enemies lurking in every corner and in the safety of Jacksonâs settlement, it was easier to slip back into his old, fatherly habits without even realising. Only took a few weeks for Joel to accustom to this lifeâto having you around every day.
You sat together for breakfast every morning and met by the gates every afternoon after your assignments ended to take you for another shooting lesson.
Month later, you hit three out of six targets. Each time, he stood beside, that proud smirk on his lips. Three weeks after that, you hit five of them. That night, Joel even offered to take you to the movies as a reward for your successful lesson.
You were so excitedâyou wanted to join the others for so long but didnât feel like going by yourself so having Joel propose that idea felt quite nice. But after all the training and another two hour long shooting lesson, you started to get weary. Twenty minutes into the movie, your head crashed onto Joelâs shoulder as you slowly fell asleep. His eyes landed on your sleepy face and there it was againâthat smile. The one he didnât have in a while.
Two hours later, you woke up in half empty dining hall.
âNeed a hand?â you heard a familiar voice around you, mixed with laughter.
âI got it,â Joel replied.
A few seconds later, Joelâs hand caressed your cheek. âKid?â
You quickly became aware of your pposition and immediately pulled away, despite the tiredness still wearing off.
âShit,â you whispered, rubbing your sleepy eyes. âIâm sorry.â
Joel shook his head. âLetâs go get your jacket.â
He got up and you, still not fulling woken up, followed his steps. Joel noticed how somnolent you were, so he walked you to the door, helped you put on the your jacket, wished Maria and Tommy good night before you headed out back to your place.
You were barely seeing above your own feet, tiredness still having power over you as you struggled to keep up with Joelâs pace. Didnât take long for him to realise that you were two feet behind. He swiftly turned around, rushing towards you.
âIâm so tired,â you yawned. âI just want to lie down.â
âAbsolutely not,â Joel mumbled. âLetâs go, weâre two streets away.â
âThatâs so far,â you whined. âI could just lie down right here and fall sleep.â
He couldnât help but laugh over your statement. He stepped closer, threw his hand around your shoulder and pulled you closer to keep you warm. âTwo streets and weâre home.â
There it was again.
Being too tired to notice, you paid no mind. This time it was Joel who was caught off guard by his own words. As the two you walked through the quiet streets of his brotherâs settlement, it slowly dawned on him. There was no point in denying. It was a homeâto you, to him. Even if he wasnât strong enough to admit it out loud, it was your home.
Three weeks later, Jackson county was covered in snow. Due to an ongoing blizzard, all of Joelâs shooting lessons were postponed until further notice, as Maria prohibited him from taking you outside the settlement in such unpredictable conditions.
That afternoon, she showed up unannounced by the east gateâalready figuring out your and Joelâs teaching schedule. To keep the two of you busy, she signed you to decoration duty instead.
As the holiday season was slowly approaching, the whole settlement was getting ready.
Joelâs disgruntlement over her orders couldnât be more obvious. But he swallowed his need to object and accepted the orders, leaving you in Mariaâs hands.
âIâm going to be honest with you, I donât like those little trips of yours,â Maria admitted whilst the two of you were scavenging the decorations for the Christmas tree Tommy, Joel and other men were putting up.
You shrugged your shoulders, âWeâre not going that far. Just around the settlement.â
âWhy canât you just go with the other kids at school?â she asked.
âDonât you always say that we should only head out there with those we trust?â
She saw the look in your eyes and knew there was no need to say anything more. You knew she meant wellâMaria wanted you to adjust to this place, to make friends of your own age. But she was also aware of the fact that separating you from Joel would do more harm than good. She did not agree with most of his actions but still respected that man. After all, he was her family.
That day, you got there late. Joel was already back, sitting in the living room with book in his lap. As interesting as the crime thriller could have been, Joelâs attention was elsewhere. Sitting in an old chair by the window, he was impatiently waiting for your arrival. It was shortly after nine when you came. As soon as he saw you on the porch, he grabbed the book, suddenly finding interest in every line.
You entered the dark hall, seeing the only source of light coming from the living room. Thatâs when Joel finally looked up, seeing you standing there with snowflakes in your hair.
âHey, didnât hear you coming,â he greeted you, closing the book. âHow was your decorating duty?â
âHow was yours?â you mumbled sarcastically, ready to roll your eyes.
Joel chuckled over your reaction. âFair enough.â
For a second, the awkward silence crept in until Joel spoke again.
âI grabbed you some food on the way back,â he announced. âLeft it in the fridge for you.â
âOh⌠thanks,â you whispered, quite taken aback by that gesture. âBut uh, Maria took me to dinnerâŚso.â
âItâs okay,â he shook his head.
There was a reassuring smile on his lipsâeven if it was for a moment.
âBy the wayâŚâ Joel spoke again, sensing that you wanted to head upstairs. Once he got your attention again, he continued: âTommy asked me today if weâd want to join him and Maria for Christmas Eve dinner next week.â
We.
You tried to hide that unexpected excitement his words left in you, yet Joel still managed to spot that glimpse of sparks in your eyes.
âItâs not mandatory, so if you donât wantââ
âNo!â you interrupted him. âI mean yes⌠yes, we can go.â
âOh,â he whispered, surprised by your sudden reaction. âAlright then, Iâll tell Tommy.â
After that, the awkward silence appeared again. You stood there for moment or two before Joel considered that it was time to goâhe wished you good night and quietly disappeared upstairs, whilst you stayed there for another second. It was so unusual to see Joel this nervous and you wondered what couldâve been the cause of that.
With the holidays approaching, the thought of the old days was harder to avoid, especially with all those children running around. Everywhere he went, he saw her, saw the memories tied to her. It was easier to avoid those when he lived in Boston. The only haunting things were his nightmares which he usually deadened with a bottle of whisky and sack of pills. But here in Jackson, it was different. There was the glimpse of normal lifeâas normal as one could get in such world. It was way too easy to look at those luckier than him and wonder what could been.
That could been the root of the problem as for why Joel struggled with the way he felt about you. Each time he grew closer, it frightened him. He was frightened by the idea of encountering the same pain again because he knew that this timeâhe couldnât bear through. He couldnât suffer through the loss of another daughter.
Because that's who you were for Joel.
You were his daughter. Despite the numerous times he tried to fight, despite his inability to express this, deep down, Joel knew it. Even as terrifying as it was to admit it, you were his kid. He never stopped being a dad, he was just now yours.
And when he lied awake that night, he made a decision. Maybe it was time to stop running away from itâto stop running away from you.
When you woke the next morning, something felt different. Dressed up and ready, you ran down the stairs, surprised to see what was in front of you. Lighted and decorated, there was a Christmas tree standing by the fireplace. You couldnât quite comprehend that sight.
It was barely after eight oâclock. You couldnât help but wonder when did Joel managed to do this. In the kitchen, you found a message on the table along with a piece of apple pie that he must have brought from the dining hall.
Tommy and I had to leave early, thereâs been accident at the power plant. Mariaâs going to bring you dinner tonight. We should be back in a few days but if not, Merry Christmas kid.
â Joel
A part of you felt saddened over the thought of Joel possibly missing the Christmas Eve. But at the same timeâyou couldnât help but smile over him doing all of this before he left. Putting the Christmas tree, getting you breakfast. He wanted to make sure you would still have good time, despite him missing it.
Later that day, Maria stopped by with dinner. As soon as she entered the hall, she couldnât overlook the shining Christmas three. You two dined together in silence, washed the dishes and even offered for you to stay at their place until Joel and Tommy return. But as kind as her offer was, you politely declined. That night, you fell asleep on the couch, staring at those lights, hoping Joel was alright.
The blizzard out there wasnât going away anytime soon. Each morning, whilst walking to your training, you couldnât stop worrying. You knew he was more than capable of taking care of himself, yet that didnât stop the ongoing fear that was rising within you each time you came home and he wasnât there.
The house felt so empty without him there. Even though the two of you spend most of your time in silence or in separate rooms, you both had your comfort in each otherâs presence. The idea of Joel being door away from you felt reassuring. Naively, you never thought that could change. In this sense, Jackson has softened you. Those gates around gave you sense of protection.
But he didnât have that.
Each night, you waited. Sitting in his old chair by the window, you held your switchblade between your fingers and waited until you fell asleep. Fell asleep with a hope and woke with coldness wrapping around your body and disappointment that dawned on you when you found his room empty.
Three days before Christmas, you felt the need to express your anxiousness to Maria.
âThe plant is a few of miles away. And with the snowstorm out there, it would be too dangerous to head back in such conditions,â she explained. âTheyâll be back soon, youâll see.â
You knew she was worried as well. But she did much better job at hiding it. She promised you that even if Joel and Tommy didnât make it in time, you would still celebrate the Christmas Eve, together. And as much as you appreciated that effortâyou didnât care about celebrations of any kind. The only thing you cared about was Joel.
On twenty third of December, the clouds of fog and heavy flakes of snow finally disappeared. Yet there was no sign of Joel nor Tommy. You waited by the East Gate whole afternoon until your fingers felt numb from the coldness. You waited there until the sundown when Maria came to pick you up. You protested, begging her to let you stay up with men from the night watch.
âYouâll wait for him at home,â she insisted. âCâmon, Y/N. Youâre freezing.â
But you didnât care and she knew. But there was no point in fighting with her. You sighed, jumped down from the lookout and with disappointment hidden behind your eyes, you returned to that empty house. That night, you sat in that chair with switchblade in your handâjust like all those previous nights and waited.
On the twenty four of December, Christmas Eve, you were sitting by the kitchen table with Joelâs note in your hand.
âWe should be back in a few days but if not, Merry Christmas kid.â
The chances of Joel and Tommy returning before the Christmas dinner were slimmer with each hour that past. At noun, it was decided that small group of patrollers would head to that plant and bring them back. With the weather conditions improving, you knew there must have been a different reason as for why they were still not coming back. And Maria knew it as well, despite her best efforts to keep you calm.
âThereâs Christmas dance going on at the hall tonight. We could go if youâd like,â Maria offered when the two of you met at the stables. âOr we could still make the dinner.â
âI think Iâll just stay home,â you whispered, grabbing your backpack from the floor. âIâm quite tired. And I have the kindergarten duty tomorrow, so.â
âY/Nâ?â
âJust tired, really,â you interrupted her. âDonât worry.â
âAlright then,â she sighed, not trying to persuade you. âBut tomorrowâdinner at my house. No excuses, six oâclock sharp.â
You felt guilty for declining again. So this time, you agreed to her proposal. After all, you could really use a moment out of your house. Maria meant well, she cared about you and she wasnât exactly happy with the thought of you being all alone there.
On your way back, you passed the gate again, stayed a second or two and waited. For a moment, you thought you could sneak out tonight and try bribing one of those junior patrols guys at the watch to let you sneak up there. But you knew one of them would tell and you didnât want to cause any more unnecessary worry for Maria. She already cut you a lot of slack with all those assignments you signed yourself off of.
When the clock stroke eight, you lost all your hope that Joel could make it before midnight. But knew that he wouldnât want you to stare out of that window forever. So you decided to stop by the Christmas dance to grab a dinner, at least. When you returned, you lit a candle and sat down by the tree. Though as much as you tried, your eyes always landed on that view.
Shortly before midnight, you headed upstairs to his bedroom. His bed has not been made since the day he left. There wasnât much of sight of him, besides the stuff in the clothes where you were headed. You opened the wooden door and took out his old jacket. Maria forced two of you to get rid of most of your old clothes and gave you new, not ripped and stained ones, but he still kept that one jacket.
You took it off the hanger and put over your sweater. It still had it scent.
With that, you went back and with switchblade in your hand, you sat down on the stairs on the front porch. You heard the celebratory noises coming from the hall but didnât feel the need to join. Instead, you looked up at the stars.
During one of those night out there, you told Joel how much you loved the constellations and even showed him some of themâwhich he found profoundly interesting, as much as he tried to tell otherwise.
There you saw itâBig Dipper. The one you showed him, the only one he managed to spot.
Thatâs when midnight stroke.
And tears rolled down your face. As you looked ahead and saw the darkness.
And a shadow.
Shadow of a man.
For a second, you thought you could blame it on your somnolent mind. But when your name slipped from his lips, twice, it wasnât your imagination anymore.
It was Joel.
âJoel?â you whispered as you saw him, heading towards you.
You couldnât quite believe it.
âJoel!â you called out, not waiting another second to rush towards him, meeting him halfway.
He was out of the darkness, standing right there in front of you.
It was him.
But the smile you had on your lips faded away the second you saw a blood seeping through the fabric on his right leg.
âAre youââ you gasped, eyes landing on his injury.
He immediately realised where your mind went.
âNo,â he reassured you, stepping closer. âItâs just an injury, a scratch. Nothing more.â
You noticed the trouble he had whilst walking.
âI still have aid kit in my backpack upstairs,â you mumbled, worried thoughts jumping from one another in your mind. âItâs not much but I can fix it. I could just go and fix it, just let meââ
âY/N!â
His voice echoed in your ears. Suddenly, he stood right in front of you, his cold hands grabbing both of your puffy cheeks. There was one thing you had in common in that very moment. The fear that rose in both of you, the worry that was put on display when you looked into his eyes. You couldnât hold it together anymore, despite the efforts.
âI thought,â you gasped between the sobs, âI thought you didnât come becauseâŚâ
âNo,â Joel reassured you again, this time with a smile on his lips. âSee? I didnât. Iâm alright, Iâm alright.â
âJoel,â you whimpered, trying to comprehend what was going on.
And as he saw you, standing there in his old jacket, freezing and cryingâif there were any remaining walls, they all fell down. In that moment, every single one of his parental instincts kicked the minute he pulled you into his arms.
âIâm alright, kiddo,â he whispered, caressing your hair as you cried out. âIâm alright.â
As soon as you pulled away, Joel threw his hand over your shoulder as you quickly helped him get inside. Sitting him down on the couch, you ran upstairs, throwing the backpack on the bed as you impatiently took out one thing after another until you find the first aid kit. Only then you rushed downstairs, fix Joelâs wounds.
You almost tripped over your own feet.
He was sitting in the same spot, eyes landing on the lightened Christmas tree.
After you sewed his injury, the two of you sat there in silence. Neither of you needed the words in order to embrace the comfort you had in each otherâs presence. You sat there, watching the lights until you fell asleep on his shoulder. In that momentâJoel didnât need anything else. He was home.
âMerry Christmas, kid,â he whispered, looking down on you.
Twenty minutes past midnight, Joel made it.
But then the dawn came.
You woke up, eight hours later, finally without those worries hanging over your head. In the same spot you fell asleep, only with blanket covering your body. It was quiet, peaceful. Until you slowly awakened and your eyes landed on the wall clock above the living room dresser.
Within a second, you were up on your feet.
âShit!â you yelled out, ignoring the possibility of Joel, still being asleep.
With tiredness wearing off, you tripped over your feet tree times, with each almost landing on your face. You quickly changed your clothes and ran back downstairs.
And there he was.
Leaning against the kitchen desk with cup of coffee in his hand, Joel couldnât overlook the distress pictured all over you.
âEver heard of a hairbrush?â he commented your appearance, being in the mood to have a little dig at you.
You didnât have the time to roll your eyes over his words.
âIâm running late,â you whispered, looking around, trying to find your backpack. âI was supposed be at the kindergarten twenty minutes ago!â you cried out, stressed, trying to find your possessions. âMarias going to kill me. And where is that fucking thing?â
âTried your room?â Joel proposed, visibly being amused by your current state.
âDammit!â you yelled out, running back upstairs.
Within seconds, you were rushing back down, pushing your switchblade into your back-pocket.
âGotta goâ!â before you managed the disappear outside, Joelâs voice stopped you.
âWhere do you think youâre going?â he headed towards you.
You turned from the doors, âto my assignment? I already missed most of them this week. Canât screw this one as well.â
âWhereâs your other jacket? The down one that Maria brought the other day?â
You stared at his, utterly confused over that question.
âWhat?â you shook your head. âWhat are you talking about?â
âY/N, itâs freezing out there, youâre not going in this,â he pointed to your windbreaker.
In this moment, you couldnât help but roll your eyes.
âI donât have time for thisââ
âY/N, this is not open for discussion,â he stepped closer. âGo and get the other jacket.â
âJoelâ!â
âNow, Y/N,â he repeated, admonishing look in his eyes.
He was never more parental than in that moment as he watched you grumpily running upstairs to grab your other jacket.
You came down, clothes changed.
âNow hat, and gloves. Where are your gloves?â
âSeriously?!â
There was something unimaginably funny as he watched you losing your temper when you did a second round of running and came back, redness in your cheeks.
You put it on and looked at Joel, annoyance expressed all over your face.
âHappy?â you mumbled sarcastically, grabbing your backpack from the floor.
âThat youâre not going to freeze out there? Yes, I am,â he shrugged his shoulder. âAlthough,â he stepped closer and pulled the zip of your down jacket up to the top. âNow, I am.â
You rolled your eyes, once again.
He couldnât help but chuckle over that response.
âYouâre warm enough?â he asked.
âIâm sweating like a pig, Joel.â
âBetter than freezing, donât you think?â he couldnât help but have another dig at you. âIf you caught cold, I would be the one running around you.â
âWell, I couldnât rob you of your favourite I told you moment, could I?â you grinned. âBesides, with this leg⌠you can barely walk so I donât know what running youâre talking about, old man.â
He bursted into laughter.
âYou're such a stubborn pain the ass, you know that?â he observed between laughs.
But then it happened.
âOkay, dad.â
That one sentence that was supposed to be an innocent jokeâa little dig.
Carrying little no meaning.
Until you saw how Joelâs eyes suddenly shifted. And the laughter was no longer there. The spark was gone and he stood there, quiet and frozen. Stiff and numb over your words.
Itâs been more than twenty one years since he last heard that.
His heart dropped into his stomach, the world around became too heavy.
There she was, in his mind again. That day, that exact moment. His eyes landed on his watch.
He heard his name coming out of your mouth, three times before he looked upâseeing the genuine worry displayed right in front of him.
âJoelâ?â
âGo,â he whispered, so coldly.
You shook your head, confused. âJoel, are youâ?â
âGo,â he repeated. âYour assignment is waiting. Leave.â
You stood there for two second, before you heard him againâurging you to leave. All at once, you couldnât recognise him. You had no idea what caused this strange reaction, but didnât dare to ask. Instead, you obeyed. You bowed your head and walked out of your house.
Each step you take, the further you were from the house, the more guilt was rising within you. What could you have done to displease him this much?
Youâve experienced Joelâs anger a few times, while the two of you were on the road. To be honest, Joelâs patience was thin and you knew what strings to pull to get him into rage. Him yelling at you became a daily routine at one point. But youâve never seen him like this. The stare he had, the emptiness in his eyes.
As if you were dead to him. Truth was, you would much rather had him screaming at you than being this eerily quiet.
You arrived to your assignment and quickly got to work, hoping no one would notice your delay. But even with the amount of work you had around, you couldnât stop thinking about that odd encounter with Joel. What couldâve been that made him so upset?
Couldâve been the joke, you thought. But it was an innocent statement, with not much truth in it. Or was it? Or was it something that accidentally carried more truth that you were willing to let on? Could Joel sense that?
One too many scenarios running through your worried mind.
âY/N?â Mariaâs voice snapped you out of your thoughts.
You looked up and saw her, standing by the door.
âHey,â you mumbled, putting the basket with toys on the floor. âWhatâs going on?â
âJust checking in,â she replied, smile on her lips. âI stopped by your place but forgot your had your duty today. Wanted to take Joel to infirmary but looks like you already took care of that.â
âOh, yeah. It was nothing,â you whispered, eyes landing on the floor, the desire to avoid every conversation that included his name rising with each second. âI have a lot to finish today, soâŚâ
âI wonât keep you any longer,â Maria laughed. âJust wanted to say that since Tommy and Joel got back in one piece, we thought we could have the Christmas dinner today. After all, the holidays are still on.â
âI donât think Joelâs in mood for celebration of any kind,â you admitted.
âI already talked to him and he agreed.â
So maybe he managed to cool down, you thought. Or at least, you were hoping for that.
Maria stayed for a few more minutes, asking you to come earlier tonight to help prepare the dinner. She freed you from your afternoon assignments to have enough time to change and get ready. You stayed at the kindergarten until one in the afternoon, then helped for two hours at the stables before you headed back to your house.
You learned from her that both Tommy and Joel had a day off so part of you hoped you would run into him. But when you came, the house was empty. Joelâs backpack and gun were lying by the chair but he was nowhere to be foundâas you searched every room around. You tried to not think much of that but there were still those doubts inside you.
Luckily, you were running out of timeâwhich meant you had to hurry up and pull yourself out of your worried mind. You didnât have any decent clothes to wear, except for the regular ones. So you just grabbed a clean sweater, pants and tied your hair up before you headed to Mariaâs.
When you arrived, Maria was already cutting the vegetables in the kitchen. You let yourself in, throwing the jacket on the hanger in the hall as she called you in. It was the first time you were in their home as they mostly came to visit you and Joel. It was much bigger than what the two of you had but all those details displayed around implied that theyâve been here for quite some time. Each corner had a track of them. There were pictures on the walls, books on the coffee table with an empty cup, flower pots on the windowsill.
But what caught your attention was a board, resting on the top of the fireplace.
You didnât mean to snoop but when you saw those names, you couldnât look away. There were two of them, along with four dates. Took only few seconds for you to realise what this was supposed to meant.
Shivers went down your spine. Especially once you heard Maria calling you again.
âIâm sorry,â you whispered, rushing into the kitchen.
âItâs alright, just finish these carrots,â she handed you the knife. âI need to start preparing the meat.â
You took the orders without any objections.
You wondered. Were they Tommyâs or Mariaâs children? Or did each belong to one of them? You wouldnât guess the two of them to experience such loss since theyâve both seen so well put together.
But you knew yourself how easy it was to put up a believable surface. You did that after Tessâs death, despite how painful it was to lose someone so close. You didnât have any other option. Maybe they were once in a similar position.
Eventually, every person finds a way to live with their pain. They either face it or suppress that, deep down.
You only now realised how important must have been this child to Tommy and Maria. Get a second chance in a world like this was almost a miracle.
âTommyâs memorial caught your attention?â
Almost as if she read your mind.
You startled, nearly accidentally cutting yourself.
âI wasnât⌠you mumbled, embarrassed. âI didnât⌠Iâm sorry.â
âItâs alright,â Maria looked up, reassuring smile on her lips.
She was kind, like always.
âIâm sorry about your kids.â
So you felt the need to let her know.
Her eyes locked with yours again, âThank you. Although, just a kid, Kevin.â
âOh,â you nodded. âSo Sarah was Tommyâs daughter?â
âShe was his niece,â Maria replied, still preparing the meet.
In that moment, the world around stopped for a second.
Tommyâs niece.
Meaning?
You had to take a deep breath.
âSo, she wasâŚâ you swallowed, feeling the frog in your throat growing bigger each second.
âJoelâs daughter,â Maria finished your sentence, paying no mind to your current state.
Joelâs daughter.
Joel had a daughter. A daughter just three years younger than you.
You needed a moment to process this.
He used to be someoneâs dad.
Then the last piece of the puzzle was found. And the mystery was solved.
And your shattered heart dropped into your stomach.
He used to be a dad.
Suddenly, it all made sense. Suddenly, youâve never felt worse. For what you said, for being so cruel. All those days, all those moments, all his wordsâall at once it made sense. It was the last clue you needed to win the prize. Was it worth though, was the question.
âY/N?â you heard Mariaâs voice calling your name.
Three times before you looked up, still a little spaced out.
âHe didnâtâŚâ she whispered, putting two and two together. âOhâŚâ
âThatâs alright,â you shook your head. âItâs not your fault.â
You didnât know how to approach this newly revealed information, how to solve the problem without causing even more of them. Joel was never the most sharing individual, neither of the two of you was. Though you couldnât blame him. He was keeping this inside of him for more than twenty years. One could one fear how difficult that must have been.
âHow did it happen?â you dared to ask.
Maria looked you. She knew this wasnât her place to talk but still gave in. âI donât know the details. Just that it was the day of the outbreak.â
You thought there was no chance this could get any worse.
âDay after Joelâs birthday.â
Somehow it did.
And you felt even more guilty for asking these questions in the first place.
You thought of this afternoon, when you were rushing back to your house, hoping you would find Joel there. Now you were on the verge of praying to every none-existent higher power that he could change his mind and not come. You wanted to do everything you could to avoid him, out of the shame that you were feeling.
That of course, did not happened.
At half past six, Tommy arrived from Tipsy Bison with bottle of scotch and smile on his lips. He had a stitch above his eyebrows, meaning both him and Joel were involved in whatever fight that went down at power plant, probably with those raiders Maria kept mentioning. Greeting both of you, he kissed Maria on the cheek, placed on the bottle on the kitchen desk and disappeared upstairs to change his clothes.
Thirty minutes after him, Joel arrived.
You were in the middle of settling the dinner table when you heard the door slam. You paid no mind, placing the four plates on their spots. Only when you turned to get the cutlery, you saw Joel standing by the coffee tableâhis eyes immediately landing on you.
The fear in your face was difficult to overlook. For a second, your sight shifted from Joel to the memorial board right next to him.
For a second.
Yet he still managed to catch that.
Without a thought, you turned around and headed towards the kitchen to grab the tray with glasses and cutlery. When you came back, you saw him standing on the same spot. Only now, his full attention was directed towards that board before you caught his attention, again.
It didnât take much for him to realise the nature of your behaviourâbeside what happened this morning.
You stood there, staring at the each other. Your heart was pounding louder with each second, hands were sweating, the tray in your hands shaking. Only when Tommyâs voice called out for Joel, you looked away and went to finish your job.
Feeling even more ashamed than before, if it was still possible.
To say the dinner was awkward would have been an understatement. The four of you sat by the table in silence, with mostly Tommy or Maria leading the conversation. Their words and the conversation in general was revolving mainly around Jackson and things related to that as both of them sensed that none of you were in the mood. Maria kept checking on youâshe didnât miss how determined you were to avoid Joelâs eyes.
It was after dinner when you saw him lighten up a little. Tommy grabbed the bottle of scotch and took Joel into his little office space downstairs, right in the entrance hall. Which you and Maria used as an opportunity to wash the dishes.
You placed the dishes right next to the kitchen sink when you heard Tommyâs laugh.
ââŚitâs time consuming!â
Shortly, it was followed by Joelâs brief laughter. Still, it was nice to know he was easing up.
âItâs that stupid clock joke Tommy heard this morning,â Maria commented as you handed her the dishes, one by one.
There wasnât any response coming from you. Your mind was too preoccupied for that.
And as much she didnât want to cross the boundaries, she was worried about you.
âJoel cares about you, you know,â she spoke, snapping you out of your thoughts.
You looked up at her, handing her the plate.
âIâm not really sure about that right now,â you admitted. âAlthough, I couldnât really blame him.â
âYou worry too much,â Maria chuckled.
âCan you blame me?â you muttered, looking down.
âI had plenty of evidence to be confident in my previous claim.â
âLike what?â you sighed.
âA, he brought you hereââ
âI saw him spare a rabbit once. So not leaving me out in the cold is not a strong argument.â
Maria chuckled again.
âHe brought here and asked for the two of you to be placed together.â
Wait a minute.
You looked up once more, confused over Mariaâs words.
âNo,â you shook your head. âJoel said you just didnât have any other place for meâŚâ
âWe have a few houses specifically for kids of your age. Since I knew your situation and wondered if it wouldnât have been better to be around your peers. I offered that to Joel. But he insisted that you stay under his roof.â
That sudden new information needed a second to process.
You thought that, perhaps, he thought the two of should take your separate waysâthatâs why he mentioned that you should have a place of your own. When in reality, he wanted you around. He asked to have you around.
âWhatâs B?â
Maria took a deep breath and placed the plate into the sink.
âItâs tough to lose a child, in any kind of world, fungal or not. And it is even harder to allow yourself to care this way again, for somebody else. Which is why you might have felt like he was pushing you away at times, maybe even right now. But despite his actions saying otherwise at times, you mean a whole world for him. You are his whole world.â
You wanted to believe every word of that statement. Because thatâs what Joel was to you. After everything youâve encountered, Joel was the closest thing to a family one could have in this world. And you wanted to believe that you carried that value for him as well.
âYou just have to cut him some slack. He might be scared,â she continued.
âScared of what?â
âScared of having another chance to be a parent. Itâs way too easy to screw that job, in every world.â
Maybe all you needed to understand Joel was one conversation with someone who was once in the same position.
Suddenly, each attribute of Joelâs personality, each strange detail about him pulled together a one, bigger picture. Although the losses in your life might not have been as traumatic as those of Joelâs, you were starting to understand him. And deep down, hoped that you didnât blow up all your chances to fix what youâve broken.
That evening, you headed home first. After you helped Maria clean everything, you asked her to tell Joel that you were tired and left early. Even though there was a part of you, wanting to run after him and apologise, you couldnât do it. Once you heard his laugh, you knew you owed him a moment of peace. Your conversation could wait for another day or two.
It was first time since this morning there was even the slightest amusement on his face. Couldâve been the simple stupidity of that joke, the bizarreness that somehow made him chuckle. He stood there, leaning against the grey wall with scotch in his hand, trying so hard to suppress those laughs.
âYou can laugh, itâs funny,â Tommy teased him, finishing the rest of his drink. âItâs a great joke.â
âA really lame one,â Joel commented, squeezing the glass in his hands.
âWell, you never really had a good sense of humour so,â Tommy chuckled.
Joel shrugged his shoulders over that statement, partially agreeing before he drank the rest of his liquid courage.
It was getting late, he wanted to head home and get some rest. He handed Tommy the empty glass, patted his shoulder and gave him a fleeting smileâenough to let him know that he was thankful for the distractions. Only then he went into the living room, looking for you.
He found Maria instead.
She knew the answer he came for in the first place.
âShe left a few minutes ago,â Maria answered the implied question. âBut she left this in here,â she turned around and grabbed pair of green gloves. âCould you give that to her?â
Joel nodded, bitting his lower lip, slowly immersing into his thoughts.
âWell,â he snapped out his head after a second, squeezing the gloves in his hands, âI should probably go too. Thank you for the dinner, though.â
âMy pleasure,â she smiled.
He knew where he was going. Yet before he made a single step, the memorial board caught his sight again. He was aware of not always being the most pleasurable human being to others around, though he always justified that by saying that he was only trying to protect himself. But when he visited today, for the first time, and saw the boardâthere was regret. For, maybe, being too harsh at times.
Everyone was carrying around their own kind of pain. Some were just too good at hiding it.
So before he left, he turned to Maria.
âListen,â he cleared his throat, trying to find the right words. âAboutâŚâ
She knew where he was headed. And wanted to spare him the difficulties.
âI know,â she whispered. âMe tooâŚâ
Nothing else needed to be said, they both understood.
With that, Joel grabbed the rest of his stuff and set off.
As he walked through the streets, seeing the lights hanging on the houses and snowflakes falling to the ground, his mind wondered. Towards you, towards this morning. Part of him felt guilty for pushing you away so suddenly. You must have meant it as a joke, he thought. Thatâs what heâs been trying to tell himself the whole day.
Yet there was a part of him. Part of him that was terrified of you, being serious with that title. Joel came to terms with the way he felt about you, with the amount of care and sense of protection he had for you. But why was the idea of you feeling the same way about him so frightening? Why was it so easy to accept you as daughter but hesitate to become your father? He was in this same position twenty one years ago. And he couldnât promise to not fail again.
There was guilt. Guilt he was carrying around for more than twenty years. Guilt of failing, for not being the father Sarah deserved to have in that moment. And it felt selfish of him to put another child through that. Maria was right. It was scary to have another chance with something so fragile. Perhaps, he shouldâve just walked away, couldâve given up.
But somehow found himself standing in front of your door. With pair of green gloves in his hands and shame in his eyes.
He knocked on the door two times to make sure you were still awake. Only when he heard your voice, he let himself in.
You were standing by your closet, carefully folding your things.
Somehow, in this moment, seeing you so accustomed this place, it made Joel happy.
Then he saw the curiousness in your eyes and panicked. For a second, he panicked, overthinking his actions.
âMaria,â he mumbled, looking for the right words, âMaria⌠Maria said you left this at their place,â he finished his attempted and stepped closer into the room.
Your eyes landed on the pair of gloves in Joelâs hands.
âOhâŚâ you raised your eyebrows. âBut these⌠these are not mine. I gave them back to Maria weeks ago because they were too small for meâŚâ
You stopped for a moment and realised she achieved exactly what she wanted with that gesture. And you couldnât help but chuckle over that.
Joel, on the other hand, couldnât ignore the embarrassment rising within him.
Quickly, you saw that. Saw him clearing his throat and placing the gloves on the edge of your bed.
He stood there, for a second or two and you wondered if, perhaps, there was more to his visit. You looked into his eyes and saw the struggleâsaw how desperately he was trying to find the appropriate approach to this situation and took this as an opportunity to set things right.
âListen,â you whispered, catching his attention. âI justâŚâ
You both struggled with finding the right words.
Placing the clothes you were holding just a second ago onto the closet shelf, you stepped closer to him.
âIâm sorry for what I've said this morning. I didnât mean to upset you. I didnât know thatââ
The shame he had in his eyes was now glancing in yours. And he saw that, saw every bit of that.
Thatâs why he stopped you.
âNo,â he shook his head. âY/N, please no.â
He followed your lead and stepped closer, sitting down on the edge of your bed as the frustrated sigh left his mouth.
âItâs not your fault. How could you knowâŚâ
It was the first time you saw Joel like this. It was the first you spoke of this.
There was hurt in his voice and you knew he must have been trying to suppress that for quite some time.
You quietly joined him, eyes landing on the floor.
âMaria told you?â he asked, filling up the hollow silence.
âI saw the memorial Tommy made⌠you probably figure the rest,â you whispered.
Joel nodded.
âDonât be mad at her, please. I swear, if I knew⌠I wouldnâtââ
He finally looked into your eyes, stopping your words. âY/N, itâs alright. I am not mad at her.â
There was a sense of relief that flew through your body.
Although, there was also one question remaining.
âWhat about me?â you dared to ask.
He heard the tone of your voice and saw the worry in your eyes.
There it was, the confrontation he couldnât keep running away from. For a moment, the hollow silence returned just as your fears. In the same exact moment that Joel finally decided to face his.
âIf you think about me this way, if you feel about me this way⌠then I donât⌠I donât mind if you want to call me that.â
That certainly was not what you were expecting.
But it turned out to be better.
âIâm trying to say that even though I canât promise you that Iâm worthy of that title⌠if you want me to have that role in your lifeâŚâ he whispered.
âI thought you already had that,â you admitted.
The shock in his eyes was evident.
âListen,â you whispered, turning to him. âI was on my own for most of the time before Tess finally found me and brought me to you. Iâve never had anyone like that. So I donât have much to compare with. But if dad is supposed to be someone who makes you feel safe, who feels like home, then for me, Joel, you are worthy of that title.â
There it was. It was no longer just an assumption but a long lasting wish. He got the truth, got what he wished for and feared at the same time.
âDepends on if you want it.â
In that moment, he wanted to allow himself to want it. But in order to do that. There was one last step remaining.
Joel needed to forgive himself.
He needed to finally put down that baggage of guilt heâs been wearing around for twenty one years. He needed once and for all, stop looking behind him. And look ahead and take the opportunity the universe gave him.
Perhaps, you were what he needed to achieve that. By making sure you were safe, he would able to forgive himself for failing at that twenty one years ago. Deep down, he knew, she would never want him to wear his sadness around his neck. There would always be a part of her in Joel, nothing was going to change that. But maybe now, he was finally able to make space for you, too. To be your dad.
You heard the chuckles and looked up again. And there he was, looking down at his something to fight for. His whole world.
He smiled quietly and replied, âI do, kiddo.â
And when the word left your mouth, calling him that officially for the very first time, he barely managed to hold it together. Every remaining piece of his baggage disappeared, every last piece of the sadness he was wearing around his neck fell down as he finally put his guilt to rest.
And he kept the promise he gave. To both of his daughters.

Andrew was never more aware that he was getting older.
The hangover that was stabbing his temples with daggers was the best reminder of all.
Details from the end of the night were fuzzy, at best. He wasnât certain how he got home, but he had somehow managed to reach his bed. He was still wearing his shirt and pants from the wedding, his hair was a mess, but that was nothing compared to the fog that clogged his brain.
He made a stop by the kitchen first to drink some water, prepared some strong coffee. He splashed some cold water on his face to clear his head. Christ⌠he needed a shower. Maybe two.
He could recall a cab driver, some very loud music, jumping up and down with the beat, Sam and Daphne laughing, getting drunk on purposeâŚ
⌠and then there was you lying in bed, fast asleep, him kissing your forehead in a chaste kiss, tucking you in, helping you through the mansion, finding you in the park, the fear of not knowing where you were, him singing that song to you even if the dance was meant for the married coupleâŚ
He could hear your voice ringing in his ears, echoing through his head, beating in his heart. Words that rang again and again. Words that he had dreamt of hearing.
He took a couple of deep breaths, and let the unkind voice in his head take over. You were drunk. You didnât mean it. You said it yourself you didnât want to be in a relationship, and especially not with him. You were scared, you didnât want to take the risk, didnât want to make the sacrifices that a long-distance relationship would require, not for him, at least, because he wasnât worth it, he wasnât enough and you didnât love him, you were just drunk, you didnât mean itâŚ
He turned on his phone, checked the time. It was already 1pm.
Messages from his friends, from Sam and Daphne, one from his mom, a few from his labelâŚ
⌠and then 10 from you.
He swallowed thickly, but touched your name first anyway.
Hi! I hope you got home safely last night.
First, thank you for taking care of me. I was drunk⌠obviously
A true gentleman, as usual.
Iâm so sorry you had to see that. I was hammered. I wasnât myself and I said things I shouldnât have.
Andrew had to stop reading. He took a deep breath, looking up at the ceiling for a moment, bracing for the rejection that was sure to come⌠again.
Still, he read on.
I know that Iâve fucked up, and that you donât want to see me anymore. Which is perfectly understandable, and I completely respect your decision. I had no intention to contact you again. It was completely out of line for me to confess my feelings.
Andrew read that last sentence several times, before rushing to the next text.
Iâm sorry about what happened. I know you donât want to see me anymore, and again, I completely understand. I was an idiot and Iâve fucked up everything. I donât deserve your forgiveness, and I wonât ask for it. At this point, I just hope that what I said last night didnât make things even worse.
I know that youâve probably moved on by now, and Iâm not expecting anything from you. I donât even expect an answer to these texts, and I will simply not contact you again if you choose not to answer. I guess that alcohol simply made me reveal things I would rather not have confessed. I trust you not to tell anyone about this, even if you donât want to talk to me ever again.
I reckon that I should make it clear, although I expect that you donât feel the same anymore, that I meant what I said last night. And I wish I hadnât been so stupid, and told you how I felt while I still could.
His eyes ran through your words again and again, but they remained unchanged, no matter how many times he read them. He let out a long exhale, unable to believe what he was reading was true.
You couldnât be meaning that⌠you couldnâtâŚ
Iâll see you this afternoon at our cute coupleâs get-together for post-wedding day, before they enjoy their well-deserved honeymoon. Donât worry though, I wonât initiate a conversation, and will completely understand if you donât want to talk to me ever again. Also, Iâll stay sober this time, just in case I do something stupid.
If I never hear from you again, know that I wish you the best. You deserve all the happiness in the world.
Andrew struggled to breathe for a moment. He dropped his phone on the counter next to him, buried his face in his hands.
What the fuck was going on?
Andrew hadnât texted you back. He didnât want to have this conversation with you over a phone. There were too many things to be told, too many things to be discussed.
He was a ball of nerves by the time three oâclock arrived and he stepped in his friendsâ house. Some help was needed to make sure that the rented mansion was in good shape, to take care of the rest of the food and drinks, and obviously, to have another party to celebrate the newlyweds.
And you were there. Standing in the kitchen, making tea, your demeanour perfectly calm, as if you hadnât dropped a bomb that had shattered his life in a million possibilities the night beforeâŚ
âAndy!â
You turned to him at the sound of his name, he noticed the way your lips parted, before you looked away in a hurryâŚ
The next second, he was engulfed in Samâs strong embrace.
âHow are you, Mr. Married-man?â Andrew joked, returning the tight hug.
âEcstatic. Not realising whatâs going onâŚâ
Andrew chuckled at that.
âDaphneâs gone with her mother to deal with something⌠donât remember what⌠but somebody has to go to the venue to check that everything is fine before we leave for good. Can you do that?â
âSure, Iâll go.â
âYou want some tea first?â
âNo, no⌠Iâm fine. Iâll deal with that.â
âY/N can go with you, you might need help. The caterer left some food there apparently, even if they were supposed to deal with that and pack it up. Also, check that no one has broken anything, we were all quite drunk last night.â
âSure, Iâll do that.â
Andrew looked at you, but you didnât move towards him. You remained standing there, in the kitchen, the kettle in your hand. You looked almost afraid, definitely uncomfortable.
âYouâre coming, Y/N?â he asked, making sure his voice was neutral but still soft. He didnât want you to believe that he was angry.
You jumped, surprised that he would talk to you. Still, you nodded in a hurry, putting the kettle down.
âYeah⌠yeahâŚâ
You offered him a smile, and he reciprocated the gesture. You seemed appeased by it.
You both hurried outside, greeting some other friends who were coming and going, set on different errands. It was merry despite the grey sky and the threat of some new rain.
âIâll drive,â Andrew said as you reached his car.
âMy car is right over there, Iâll follow you.â
âNo need, Iâll drop you here after weâre done. Come on.â
You remained staring at him for a moment, clearly trying to gauge his actions.
âIâm not angry,â he said, reading your mind too easily. âYou can come in.â
Slowly, you nodded, and opened the car door.
It was silent as Andrew started to drive. An awkward kind of silence that Andrew tried to alleviate by turning on the radio. Van Morrison filled up the empty spaces of the car, while you tried to discreetly look at him, failing miserably. He wanted to laugh at you for being so obvious about it.
It was a short drive to the venue, but he couldnât find anything to say to you. His throat was dry, he could feel his palms getting clammy at the mere thought of speaking to you. There was too much that needed to be saidâŚ
âAndyâŚâ you finally broke the heavy silence, while he was waiting at a red light. âAbout last nightâŚâ
âCan we⌠can we not do that now?â
When he looked at you, you were clenching your jaw and looking away in a hurry.
âIâm not angry,â he repeated, his voice soft but neutral still.
He didnât want to let himself get emotional now. There was too much to say and too little time before reaching the venue. Besides, he didnât want to speak about this in his car, this wasnât either the right place nor the right time.
âBut we should talk about all this after weâre done with the venue and everything⌠like⌠when weâre alone and we have time to discuss things.â
âSo⌠you⌠you want to talk about it?â
âYeah⌠I reckon we should.â
âWe donât have to. I understand that you hate me, that you donât want to have anything to do with me ever again. You donât have to be this kind to me.â
Andrew couldnât refrain a breathy chuckle, shaking his head. Christ, you were so wrong⌠about everythingâŚ
âI could never hate you, Y/N. I donât have that in me.â
âI hurt you. A lot.â
âYeah, you did.â
âYou should hate me.â
But he slowly shook his head, eyes still fixed on the road, and he hoped you wouldnât notice the way he tightened his grip on the steering wheel.
âThatâs not how love works, Y/N.â
You didnât say anything, but he could feel your stare upon him. He didnât know what he could add, so he let the rest of the drive pass in a silent haze, his mind swarming with thoughts and feelings and trying to figure out what he wanted, what he should do, what was reasonableâŚ
More than anything else, he thought about how nice it was to smell your perfume in his car again.
Andrew had taken care of the caterer and the food while you were going around the bedrooms to make sure nothing was wrong. He was looking for you to give you a hand, the mansion was rather large, and the keys needed to be returned after everything had been cleaned and put in order, or fees might be added. Andrew had offered to pay for everything, but Sam and Daphne had refused, and seemed offended by the idea, so the best Andrew could do now was to make sure they wouldnât pay anything extra. A few other friends and family members were also helping out, and everything was ready.
He found you in one of the bedrooms. You were checking the room quickly, but everything seemed to be in order, except for something that seemed to have been forgotten on top of an old wooden wardrobe. Andrew looked at you for a few seconds as you went on your tiptoes to try and grab whatever object was up there, but you were too small. An amused smile was drawn to his lips when you huffed in annoyance.
You turned around in a jolt when you heard the floor creaking under his weight. He said nothing, stopped only when he was close to you, so close he would only have to bend to kiss you⌠And then he reached up, and grabbed the forgotten object.
You both exploded with laughter as Andrew revealed a green bra.
âSomebody had fun here last night,â Andrew laughed.
âThey definitely got lucky!â
He handed it to you, but you shook your head.
âIâm not taking this, I have no clue who it belongs to!â
âI canât walk out of here holding a bra!â
âWhy not? Is it better if itâs me?â
âY/N⌠Theyâll think I had sex with someone!â
âAnd if I walk out with this theyâll think I had sex with someoneâŚâ
He rolled his eyes.
âWhat do we do, then?â
âCanât you hide it in your jacket?â
âCanât you?â
It was your turn to roll your eyes, grabbing the piece of garment and stuffing it in the pocket of your vest.
âAlright, crisis averted for our famous diva.â
âA diva? Me?â
You both chuckled at that.
âNo, not at all⌠I donât know why I joked about that.â
âBecause youâre mean.â
He was joking, but your face fell, and the next second you were taking a step back and clearing your throat. And the moment had passed.
âIt was the last room. Everybody behaved, apparently.â
âGood⌠thatâs grand⌠letâs go, then.â
But when he turned towards the door, you held onto his hand.
He lost himself in your eyes⌠in their shade that he saw at night still, despite the long weeks you had spent apart, and they looked begging now, soft and vulnerable.
âCan we⌠can we talk before you take me back to my car?â
Slowly, he nodded.
âWe can go to my place.â
âYour place?â
âOr yours.â
âYouâre sure?â
âWe should be alone for this. Alone, and undisturbed.â
You nodded in agreement, letting go of his hand again. He hated the cold of the air that replaced your skin.
You walked out in silence, managed to discreetly get rid of the bra in a bin, stopped to chat with a few friends, but Andrew could hardly be patient anymore. He was careful not to be rude when he pulled you away from the conversation so you could walk back to his car. Still, when you looked at him before climbing in his car, you seemed to read right through him, through the mix of emotions in his hazel eyes, from the impatience to the fear.
âLetâs go to my place,â you said softly as Andrew turned on the engines.
He nodded in silence, struggling to regulate his breathing. There was so much hope and bitterness mingling in his heart now, being injected to his veins, preventing his lungs from functioning properly.
Why had you acted like you didnât care if you loved him? Did you even love him? Really? Would you be ready to give him a chance? Had you dated anyone since that night?
The drive to your house was made in silence, both of you lost in your own thoughts. There was music playing on the radio, but Andrew couldnât notice it. It started to rain at one point, heavy and cold droplets that made it harder to see the road.
Not a word as you both climbed out of his car and hurried to your door, fleeing the rain. It was cold as it dropped on his face, the contrast stark when you let him in your house that was so much warmer.
âTea?â you merely asked, but didnât wait for his answer to go prepare a kettle.
He remained frozen in your hallway. All of a sudden, that evening was playing over and over in his head. He looked at the doorknob, and thought about leaving. Just⌠running away. Never see you again. Then what?
He would spend the next months, or most probably years, trying to forget you, trying to move on. He would bury himself in work so he could numb the pain. Eventually, heâd find someone new, build a life for himself without you in it. Heâd avoid you at gatherings with your common friends. He would sing the songs he had written about you, trying to forget that you were the muse behind every note played and every rime spoken. You would find someone else too, get married, build yourself a home and a family with another person joining you in bed every night. Not him. He would never kiss you again, never hold you again, never hear your laughter, never giggle at your snarky remarks, never make love to you ever againâŚ
âAndy?â
He spun around, facing you.
The choice was his. He could still tell you that he never wanted to see you again. That you had hurt him too much and that he didnât want the two of you to stay in touch.
Or he could walk into your kitchen and talk with you until he was certain about the nature of your feelings for him. And then heâd decide if you were worth putting his heart on the line again or not.
He could run away, or stay.
âIs everything okay?â you asked, voice gentle, head slightly tilted to the side.
He nodded, took a deep breath, and walked over to you.
âYeah⌠just⌠lost in thought.â
You handed him a cup of tea. No sugar nor milk. Two teabags. He recognized the tag of his favourite brand.
âWe should sit down,â you offered, voice hesitant, but he nodded, and you smiled as you took a seat in your living room, around your wooden table.
He sat across from you, silently measured the distance that separated you. You were resting your hands on the wooden surface, and he ached to reach out, hold your fingers tight.
You didnât seem willing to start the conversation, and after a couple of minutes of both of you silently staring at your cups of tea, Andrew exhaled deeply through his nose, closed his eyes, and finally broke the heavy silence that had entered the room.
âSo⌠last night⌠when you were drunkâŚâ
âHmmâŚâ
âI reckon we should start from there.â
âThank you again, for helping me.â
âThereâs no need to thank me for that.â
âSam said you were worried about me.â
He finally looked up at you, gaze getting caught in your stare, and he couldnât look away after that. He struggled to swallow.
âOf course, I was worried. You were alone, no one knew where, and you didnât have your phone with you.â
âBut you hate me.â
âIâve never said that.â
âAfter what happened, you should hate me.â
He heaved a sigh, shook his head, his shoulders bent under an invisible weight. The burden of loving you despite everythingâŚ
âI donât hate you. Iâm just⌠hurt.â
âItâs not exactly better.â
âNo, I guess not⌠But itâs not aimed at you. Itâs aimed at myself.â
You blinked a couple of times, a pained expression on your features.
âYesterday⌠you saidâŚâ
You looked away, setting your gaze on your tea, on the steam that was rising from the porcelain, on the coloured liquid inside.
âIâm sorry. I shouldnât have said that.â
âBecause you didnât mean it?â
âBecause I know you didnât want to hear me say that. Because you want me out of your life, and I understand why. Because I donât want to hurt you again.â
Andrew clenched his jaw, struggled to keep his heartbeat regular.
âDid you mean it?â
You brushed a strand of your hair behind your ear, still avoiding his stare.
âY/N, look at me. Please, look at me.â
You closed your eyes for a brief moment, but then you complied, looked up at him.
âAfter everything that has happened, I just need the truth. I just need answers. Can you do that for me?â
âOkayâŚâ
âJust answer me.â
You nodded, waiting for him to speak.
âDid you mean it?â
You blinked tears away, but slowly nodded still.
âWhen you saidâŚâ
His voice broke, he had to clear it to gather words on his tongue once more.
âWhen you said that you loved me⌠did you mean it?â
But you nodded again.
âI did mean it. I shouldnât have said it, thoughâŚâ
You fell silent when Andrew buried his face in his hands. He was struggling to breathe, struggling not to cryâŚ
âIâm sorry, Andy⌠Iâm so sorryâŚâ
âWhy the fuck did you reject me then?â he interrupted you, looking at you once more, his hands falling loudly on the table. âWhy did you keep on pushing me away? On making me feel fucking miserable? If you loved me, why would you hurt me like that?â
âI didnât mean to⌠I justâŚ.â
Your lips trembled, but you went on anyway, voice calm and a little cold.
âMy life was a mess⌠still kind of is, to be fair. I had a new job, and then⌠then you kissed me that night at the bar and⌠old feelings came back. Feelings I had been very good at burying and forgetting. And I just⌠I didnât want us to remain just friends, but⌠I was fucking terrified, Andy. I still am, to be honest. And so, I convinced myself that I could⌠have you while protecting my heart, which was the worst idea ever thought since the beginning of mankind, clearlyâŚâ
You heaved a tired sigh, rubbed your forehead as you tightly closed your eyes.
Andrew was remaining perfectly still, utterly quiet. Waiting for you to continue.
âI just thought⌠I thought that if we didnât act like a couple, if we didnât date, I would be able to control how I feel for you. I thought that it could be casual. And you accepted, and I thought⌠I thought that it meant that you were just attracted to me, and it helped me ignore my own feelings to believe that you just wanted sex.â
âI didnât want you just for sex. I never did,â he interrupted you, and you stared at him with pain twisting your features.
âIâm sorry, AndyâŚâ
âYou said that it didnât mean anything to you. You said that you didnât have feelings for me, that⌠that you felt nothing when we were intimate. You said it was just about fuckingâŚâ
âI didnât say any of that...â
âThatâs how you behaved, though.â
âI didnât say it was just about fuckingâŚâ
âYou didnât deny it.â
âIt wasnât about fucking. I always had feelings for you.â
He clenched his jaw, heaved a sigh.
âWhy did you pretend it didnât mean a thing then?â
âBecause I was scared. And I didnât feel ready to have a relationship with you.â
âBecause I have to go on tours?â
âYeah⌠not just that but⌠mostly, yes. Because you wonât be here. Dating you means signing up for a long-distance relationship, and I donât know how to deal with that kind of situation.â
Slowly, he nodded.
âI understand that,â he mumbled.
âYouâll never be around⌠youâre always off to somewhere else. Our lives are so differentâŚâ
âBut this is my home. Itâs always gonna be my home. Iâll always come back.â
âHow do you handle not seeing your partner for months?â
He let out a bitter chuckle.
âBadly,â he truthfully answered, and the two of you shared a sad smile.
âI was afraid to open up to you, to be vulnerable, to let myself feel this way⌠for you to disappear and break up with me because youâd have found someone better on the other side of the globeâŚâ
âY/N⌠I understand why my career can seem like a giant obstacle, because it is one. Itâs⌠so fucking hard to not be with the person you love for months, and Iâm so goddamn busy when touring that I canât promise you that Iâll be able to give you the quality time that you deserve. Itâs a nightmare to get our schedules to match, to plan everything out, and thatâs without counting all the things that are added along the way that werenât planned at the beginning of touring⌠And then thereâs the press, and the writing, and the recording, and⌠and I understand, okay? I understand that you would reject me because of that. But Y/N⌠if youâre just afraid that I might fall for someone else because weâre apart for a few weeks⌠that is literally the least probable scenario that could ever happen.â
âWhy would it be?â
âBecause Iâm in love with you,â he answered simply, earnestly, like it was the most obvious truth on earth. âBecause Iâve been in love with you for years. And no one has ever replaced you, even when I thought you felt nothing for me, even when we both were dating other people. Trust me, youâre the only woman I want on this planet. The only one I really want.â
He watched as you took his words in, your lower lip trembling, blinking tears away.
âYou should have told me,â he went on. âInstead of inventing this fucking arrangement, you should have just told me.â
âI know. But I wasnt ready to try and be with youâŚâ
âI would have waited. I would have waited for you.â
âIâm sorryâŚâ
âIt was fucked up, Y/N⌠you⌠it just⌠it was so painful to me,â Andrew admitted, trying not to let his voice shake too much. âI felt⌠I felt like you were just using me. Iâve never felt so terrible about myself⌠cause I⌠I was just enough for you to fuck me, and nothing moreâŚâ
âNo, that wasnât that at all...â
âThatâs how it made me feel. Not all the time, of course. There were so many times when I felt⌠loved. When I felt like you felt more for me than simple physical attraction; most of the time it was the case. And that⌠it kind of messed with my brain, made me feel like you wanted more; but every time we were getting closer to an actual relationship, you rejected me. And you kept on doing it, over and over, and sometimes it was so fucking painful. Almost mean. And more than unloved, it made me feel⌠unlovable. Undesirable. And I know that you deserve better than what I can give you with my career, butâŚâ
âDonât say that. God, Andy donât say thatâŚâ
You heaved a sigh, and Andrew was taken aback when you suddenly stood up, walked around the table and held him close. He didnât think as he wrapped his arms around you too, though.
âI love you,â you whispered as you held him close, and felt his entire body relax at your words, tears rising back to his eyes. âGod, Andrew⌠I love you so much. I was just scared. It was just bad timing. And Iâm sorry, Iâm sorry⌠I acted like the worst piece of shit, but you are everything but unlovable, okay? How could you think that?â
âSay it again,â he whispered into your neck, noticing the way goosebumps erupted across your skin under his breath. âSay it again.â
âI love you. I love you, AndyâŚâ
Before you could say anything else, he was standing up as well, catching your lips with his in the process.
He heard the shock in your breath, but then your hands were in his hair, and you were pulling him closer, until you were leaning back against the table. His hands on your face to make sure you would stay close. And Christ⌠the relief of kissing you again, of feeling your lips move perfectly against his at long last, of tasting you once moreâŚ
You held him so tightly when you pulled away, arms wrapping around his neck while you rested your forehead against his shoulder.
âAre you dating anyone?â he asked, voice hoarser than usual.
âNoâŚâ
âHave you? Since weâve stopped seeing each other?â
But you shook your head.
âNo, nothing. You?â
âNo one.â
âReally?â
âYou broke my heart⌠it does take more than a few weeks to get over that,â he chuckled, but you didnât laugh, merely holding him closer, so close he could barely breathe.
âIâm sorry. Iâm so sorry. I was so scared. I tried fooling myself into thinking I didnât love you, but I do. I love youâŚâ
âIâll wait for you,â Andrew whispered into your hair. âIf youâre not ready but youâd be willing to give me a chance, I would still wait for youâŚâ
âI donât deserve you.â
He chuckled.
âI donât know about that. But I know that I love you, despite everything that happened. And besides⌠it wasnât all bad. Most of it was good.â
âWhen I didnât act like an arse, you mean?â
âExactly.â
âI loved it so much, you know? Whenever I let myself get closer to you⌠whenever I let myself love you⌠Christ, I was so happy thenâŚâ
âI was too. Whenever you let me in, I was happy with you. We could still be happy together, if you give us a chance.â
âI was breaking my own heart every time, you know? Every time, Andy⌠It was so fucking hard⌠but I was so scaredâŚâ
He pulled away, took your hands in his. He stared at you with begging eyes.
âIf you want to try this, long-distance is going to be hard. Itâll be rough. Real rough.â
âI know.â
âI canât⌠I canât go through this again, Y/N.â
âMe neither. It was awful for me too.â
âSo⌠if we try this⌠we give it a real try: I take you on a proper date, and we donât hold back.â
âAre you sure you still want me?â
âYeah⌠yeah, I still want you. Do you want me?â
You answered by kissing him, slow and passionate, making him melt against you, wrap his arms around your frame.
âIâm all in for the date,â you whispered against his lips. âBut⌠can we still go to my bedroom now?â
âBefore the first date? What about giving me a proper wine-and-dine treatment before taking me to bed, huh?â he playfully answered, grinning into your lips, his heart beating a thousand miles a minute.
âIâll give you wining and dining and everything in between for our first date, but I really want you, right nowâŚâ
You fell silent when he let his lips fall to your neck and his hands rise to your breasts.
Little words were exchanged while you left a trail of clothes on the path to your bedroom, staggering now and then as your lips remained sealed to his most of the way.
Except when you were lying on your bed, head against your pillows, looking up at Andrew with adoring eyes as he hovered over you, staring at you like you had hung up the stars and moon in the sky. While he was trembling at the feeling of your naked skin against his, you raised your hands to hold his face, your thumbs gently brushing his cheeks, and his heart stumbled against his ribcage under your tender touch.
âI love you,â you whispered in the softest voice he had ever heard, adoration oozing from your sweet tone. âI love you, Andy.â
He rested his forehead against yours, lowering his body onto yours to feel as much of your skin against his as he could.
âI love you, Y/N,â he murmured with the same devotion and worship in his deep voice. âI love you so fucking muchâŚâ
And when he kissed you again, there was no doubt in either of your minds that this was what love was supposed to feel like.

Could I request a drabble where Halsin thinks about how he fell for female reader especially how she helps him even when she doesn't need to (even as a bear) & reminds him to take care of himself too? Even when she's dating him, he admires how she's still caring for him, and her companions including Owlbear, and Scratch too!
Halsin- lemme just- I just wanna smoosh my face into your face, please.
Halsin x f!reader
The camp was quiet, the night air filled with the soft rustling of leaves and the occasional hoot of an owl. Halsin sat by the fire, his thoughts drifting as he watched the flames dance. He glanced around the campsite, his eyes settling on you as you moved with effortless grace, tending to the companions. The connection you shared had deepened over time, blossoming into something beautiful and profound.
Halsin's thoughts wandered back to the moment he realized he had fallen for you. It wasn't during a grand battle or a dramatic event, but rather in the quiet moments, the times when you showed your unwavering kindness and compassion. You had a way of caring for others that was both gentle and fierce, a rare combination that had captivated him from the start.
One memory stood out vividly in his mind. It was a day much like any other, with the sun high in the sky and the forest alive with the sounds of nature. Halsin had shifted into his bear form, enjoying the freedom and power it brought. He had been foraging for herbs when he noticed you watching him from a distance, a soft smile on your face.
"Do you need any help, Halsin?" you had called out, your voice filled with genuine concern.
He had grunted in response, shaking his massive head. In bear form, he was more than capable of handling himself. But you had approached anyway, your hands gentle as you patted his fur and checked for any injuries. It was a small gesture, but it spoke volumes about your character. You cared for him, even when he didn't need it, simply because you wanted to.
Halsin's heart had swelled with affection in that moment. It was a feeling that had only grown stronger with time. You had a way of reminding him to take care of himself, even when he was too focused on the needs of others. Your concern was a constant, steadying presence in his life, a beacon of light in the often dark and tumultuous world they navigated.
He admired the way you extended your kindness to everyone in the camp. You were always there, tending to Astarion's wounds with a deft touch, listening to Shadowheart's concerns with an empathetic ear, and ensuring Gale had everything he needed for his arcane experiments. Your compassion extended even to the animals that had become part of their makeshift family. Scratch, the loyal dog, adored you, always wagging his tail excitedly when you were near. The owlbear cub, too, seemed to sense your gentle spirit, often nuzzling against you in search of comfort.
Halsin's gaze softened as he watched you now, kneeling beside Scratch and scratching behind his ears. The dog's tail thumped happily against the ground, and you laughed, a sound that warmed Halsin's heart. You glanced up, catching his eye, and smiled. It was a simple exchange, but it held a world of meaning.
He stood and walked over to you, his movements fluid and graceful despite his size. "You have a remarkable gift," he said softly, his voice filled with admiration.
You tilted your head, a curious look in your eyes. "What do you mean?"
"The way you care for others," he explained, his hand reaching out to gently brush a strand of hair from your face. "You remind me to take care of myself, to slow down and appreciate the small moments. You have a heart as vast and nurturing as the forest itself."
You blushed at his words, a shy smile spreading across your lips. "I just do what feels right."
Halsin chuckled, his hand cupping your cheek. "And that is why I love you. Your kindness, your strength, your unwavering compassion. You make me a better person, and for that, I am endlessly grateful."
Your eyes shimmered with emotion as you leaned into his touch. "I love you too, Halsin. More than words can say."
In that quiet moment, surrounded by the peaceful sounds of the night and the warmth of the campfire, Halsin felt a profound sense of contentment. You were his anchor, his guiding light. And he knew that with you by his side, he could face whatever challenges lay ahead.
Hope you liked this nonnie and thank you so much for your sweet message <3 xoxoxo

i havenât
summary: matt feels insecure still being a virgin, his best friend helps him out
warnings: sex obviously, matt being kind of a sub, nothing super crazy, very long tho sorry
i havent đ3
matt and i have been best friends since high school, he was always more of the shy one in our friendship. this resulted in us having two very different high school experiences, i had the very stereotypical âidealâ experience, parties, drinking, sex, all the lame school dances, football games, you name it, i probably did it. matt, however, had almost the complete opposite, unfortunately his anxiety usually got the best of him and he ended up hanging out with a few close friends (including me) and his brothers, which was still super fun but he stayed in his comfort zone. i convinced matt, with chrisâ help, to come to a few parties but aside from getting high once he didnât really participate in them. all of this to say, i was pretty experienced while matt was a sober virgin. i know that sounds harsh but it never bothered me or him as far as i knew. i obviously wanted to have fun with my best friend but it never distanced us, it was his choice and i respected it.
this brings us to now, iâm 20 and living with matt and his two triplet brothers. matt had come out of his shell a considerable amount but still never felt the need to do anything crazy.
we were sitting in our living room bored out of our minds when nick suggested we play a game. i suggested truth or dare but none of us wanted to get up so chris said we should play never have i ever. nick made fun of him for picking something so middle school but no one had any better ideas so we went with it.
it started out pretty tame, ânhie pooped my pantsâ ânhie cried at schoolâ ânhie fallen down the stairsâ before chris raised the stakes. ânhie kissed someoneâ i was confused why he asked this because we all had and we all knew that. i put my finger down, turning to matt who was red in the face and realized why chris asked.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
senior year, matt was feeling really bad about not having had his first kiss before he graduated high school. he was complaining and moping so much that i finally suggested i could be his first kiss. he turned beet red and began asking me a dozen questions.
âwonât it be weird?â
ânot if we donât make it weirdâ
âwhat if iâm bad?â
âyou canât really be bad at it, plus if you were i wouldnât careâ
âare you sure about this?â
âyeah if itâll make you stop sulking in self pityâ
he rolled his eyes at me, âyouâre not gonna make fun of me are you?â
i tilted my head at him, âmatt, have i ever genuinely made fun of you?â he shook his head.
âjust close your eyes, iâll take the leadâ
he took a deep breath before closing his eyes. i leaned over, a little nervous myself, took his face in my hands and pressed a soft kiss to his lips. he kissed back for a moment before i pulled away, him subconsciously chasing my lips. it was actually one of the nicest kisses iâve ever had, his lips were soft and he was gentle, most guys just tried to eat my face. once we had both pulled back and opened our eyes we started giggling which turned into stomach-churning laughter. we just couldnât help it, it was funny. we didnât talk about it anymore after that, other than him updating his brothers on what had happened.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
chris could be a dick sometimes, giving his brothers a hard time and unfortunately, matt was an easy target. i kicked chrisâ leg, giving him a stern look.
âow! what the hell dude?â
âdonât be a dickâ
we moved on, more questions about embarrassing things and a few rounds later it was chrisâ turn again.
ânhie had sexâ chris giggled
chris and i put a finger down, while nick and mattâs stayed up.
âdid someone slip asshole pills into your pepsi?â
they all chuckled at my comment, but it wasnât really a joke.
âi think we should quit while weâre ahead, are you guys hungry?â they all nodded. nick and chris began bickering about where we should eat while we were all getting our shoes on.
âdo you wanna drive or do you want me to?â i asked matt
âi donât careâ he didnât sound angry, more defeated
âokay, i can driveâ i gave him a soft smile.
we loaded into the car, nick taking his usual spot in the back. chris tried to sit up front, he normally sat there when matt drove and sometimes when i did. i shot him a glare, him letting out a sigh and scooting in next to nick. matt took his seat in the front, sometimes he would ask for aux but he just went on his phone and said nothing. chris chimed in from the back.
âcan iâŚ?â he asked referring to the music, i nodded my head at him, seeing as i didnât wanna pick anything and matt was occupied.
we decided on a coney island, wanting to sit down opposed to getting fast food. we got a booth, chris and nick sitting across from matt and i. matt was particularly quiet tonight and i could tell something was wrong. i noticed he was twiddling his thumbs in his lap and quickly grabbed his hand, interlacing our fingers and resting our hands on his thigh. this was normal for us, we held hands sometimes when one of us noticed the other was stressed. he looked up from his lap and gave me a small smile before slowly joining the conversation. matt seemed to be acting like his normal self again but i could tell something was still bothering him.
we finished our food and made our way back to the house, chris and nick decided to retire to bed while matt and i werenât super tired yet. we grabbed a few snacks before heading to my room, which was on the first floor while the boysâ were on the second, mainly so we didnât have to worry about waking up nick and chris.
we turned on adventure time and matt rested his head on my lap while we both scrolled aimlessly through our phones. after about two episodes, matt put his phone down and just stared at the ceiling.
âare you good?â i asked, concerned about his strange behavior.
âwhen did you lose your virginity?â
i was taken a back by his question but answered nonetheless.
âuhh summer after sophomore year i thinkâ
he didnât say anything.
âwhy do you ask?â
âdo you think itâs weird iâm still a virgin?â
âno matt, not at allâ
âi think itâs weirdâ
âdo you think itâs weird that nick is a virgin?â
âno but heâs at least done stuff, all iâve done is kissed you, no offenseâ
i giggled, ânone taken matty, the time just hasnât been right yet. youâll meet a girl and hit it off, youâll know.â
âyeahâŚâ he trailed off, like he had more to say.
âyou know you can tell or ask me anything right?â
âif you donât want to, you can tell me to fuck off and we can forget this ever happenedâŚâ he paused for a moment âw-would you have sex with me?â
âare you sure you want to? we donât have to do anything you donât wantâ
âyes i want to, iâm sick of being a 20 year old virginâ he chuckled. i let out a few giggles too before our laughter died down.
when i looked at him now, his eyes were dark with need and desperation. i took his face in my hands and pulled him into a deep kiss. i hadnât had a kiss like mattâs since senior year, i tried to push it out of my head but it was hard. it was like fireworks were going off inside my head when our lips touched, i had never felt that with anyone else.
the kiss got more heated, i wrapped my arms around his neck and pulled myself onto his lap, causing him to whimper at the pressure. i smiled into the kiss, his noises giving me more confidence as i ground my hips into his lap. he almost completely pulled away from the kiss as a desperate whine escaped his lips. i smiled at him before making my way to his neck, placing wet kisses along it up to his ear.
âi love the noises you makeâ i whispered before sucking a purple mark into his neck, more beautiful sounds leaving his lips while his hands trailed down to my ass, pulling me into him.
i came back to his face kissing him again before bringing my hands to the hem of his shirt and pulling it over his head. i then took off my shirt and bra so he wouldnât feel so exposed. his eyes bore into my chest, his mouth hung open as if he wanted to say something.
âyou gotta use your words to get what you want matty..â i teased him.
âc-can i touch you?â he asked, moving his hands up towards my boobs.
âof course you can, such a polite boyâ
he blushed before placing his cold hands over my breasts, causing me to shiver. i kissed him while he played with my boobs, gaining more confidence and playing with my nipples. i let out a moan that was swallowed into the kiss before i pushed him onto the bed, leaving me on top of him.
i quickly got up off of him before taking off my leggings and moving to pull down his pants. he protested slightly, causing me to pull away before he spoke.
âcan i make you feel good?â
âyou will baby, iâm gonna take care of you right now tho, just relaxâ he let out a deep breath, giving into my instructions. i crawled up to his lap, palming him over his boxers before placing kisses up his shaft over the fabric. he began squirming under me when i decided to take his boxers off. he wasnât huge but a decent size: proportional in length and width. i licked my lips, excited to have him inside me before taking him in my hand and licking a strip up the underside of his dick. he jumped a bit at the new feeling before letting out a loud groan from my warm tongue on his cock. i licked up the side of him before finally taking him into my mouth, sucking on the tip lightly causing him to buck his hips into me. he shot me an apologetic look while i took the rest of him in my mouth, the tip of his dick hitting the back of my throat. he gasped, all the air leaving his lungs as i began to bob up and down on him.
âholy fucking shitâ he whimpered. i couldnât help but giggle around him, the vibration causing him to buck up again. i continued sucking him, swirling my tongue around his dick until i felt him twitch in my mouth. i pulled off, followed by a loud whine of protest coming from him.
âmmm i was closeâ he pouted.
âdonât you wanna cum inside me?â his eyes lit up at the suggestion before nodding his head. i climbed up him, planning to ride him before he stopped me.
âum, can i do something to you?â
âyou wanna finger me sweet boy?â he quickly nodded his head making me chuckle again at his eagerness. i grabbed his hand, pulling his pointer and middle finger out before taking them in my mouth, running my tongue all along them while keeping eye contact with the boy under me. i could feel his dick twitching under me, causing me to moan around his fingers. i pulled his fingers out of my mouth before moving them down to my pussy. he moved his fingers around, just getting a feeling for the area before stating âyouâre so wetâ i kissed him as he continued to feel me, rubbing his wet fingers on my clit making me moan into the kiss. he found his way to my entrance, pushing just at the beginning before stopping. i opened my eyes, realizing he was waiting for my consent. i nodded my head and he pushed one of his slender fingers into me, in turn pulling moans out of me. i moved to his ear. âyou can put the other one in tooâ i whispered to him. he pushed the other in before i kissed him, pushing my tongue into his mouth and quickly dominating. he slowly got his footing, picking up his pace, my noises egging him on to repeat his actions. i felt myself nearing the edge, now grinding down onto his fingers. i pulled away from the kiss.
âfuck matty, youâre making me feel so good. please donât stopâ he said nothing but continued his motions until i fell into my orgasm, my legs shaking on his lap, still moving his fingers in and out of me. i had to grab his wrist for him to stop, not realizing he was overstimulating me.
âsorryâ he murmured.
âyou dont have to be sorry goof. you want me to ride you now?â
âyes pleaseâ
i spit on my hand, stroking him up and down a few times before lining him up at my entrance. i looked at him for approval, him nodding his head for me to slowly sink down. the noise he made when i pushed him into me is something i wish i could have on replay in my head for the rest of my life. like i said, he wasnât huge but he filled me up in all the right places.
âfuck matt you feel so goodâ
âyouâre so fucking tight holy godâ i chuckled at his response, sitting there for a minute longer to let us both get used to the sensation.
âready?â i looked to him, he nodded. i lifted myself up on my knees before sinking back down onto him. he placed his hands on my hipbones, helping guide me up and down while i bounced on his cock.
âhnng holy shit i think iâm closeâ
âme too baby, let go whenever youâre ready, iâve got youâ i reassured him, picking up my pace a bit, his whines getting more and more broken with every movement. before i knew it i could feel his hot cum coating my insides, sending me over the edge, fucking us both through our highs. once we both stopped twitching, i laid down on him, getting comfortable while he caught his breath.
âgod i could stay here foreverâ
âwe could sleep like this you knowâ
âare you sure?? is that sanitary?â i laughed at him.
âyes itâs fine matt, just go to sleep, i know youâre tiredâ
âas long as youâre comfortable, okay. goodnight, thank you for thatâ
âof course matty, goodnightâ i said wrapping my arms around his neck and falling asleep with him inside me.

Hi, ex-supporter here. Genuinely hope youâre doing well. I have been tempted to start up my support again because you genuinely are a talented writer/creator and I do enjoy your work.
I hope you understand supporting your Patreon is somewhat fraught. Your private life should be none of our business, but sadly it is relevant here. Moral action, both private and political is central to your work; you have called out plenty of people for abuse & morality drives your politics. We know abuse took place on your end, but thatâs all.
A lot of people like myself might be emotionally rooting for you to bounce back from this, but are unable to support you right now because that moral dissonance has not been resolved. We really donât know if you are like other âcancelledâ leftist influencers and just use leftist values to deflect attention away from abuse, or you are actually trying to do better and working on yourself.
You donât owe us anything. However, many of us who are eager to support you are forced to hold back because trust has been damaged, and there has not been any real sign of reparation or reconciliation. Maybe you think those kind of questions are invasive, maybe you donât think we are real fans for not sticking by you despite the allegations.
I donât know, I just want you to know that there are plenty of people who do want to support you, but feel they need to trust you first. And that canât happen without addressing some things.
Anyways, best wishes. Take care.
Hiya, thank you for speaking to me on this.
Before I say the rest of what I say I want to be clear that between me and the people I was involved with in 2023, there were some instances where I was responsible for harm, there were instances where I received harm and there was also a general pervasive ecosystem of harmful behaviours in the community I was in. This includes people who signed the statement against me, and in one instance one of them did something which everyone to whom I have described it has agreed is sexual assault, though there is more besides.
For the time being I'm not talking publicly more about what happened because it was a very messy situation, and although I have been seriously harmed by issues in my personal life being litigated in public in this way, I don't want to give my full account of my relationships with everyone involved because I don't want that type of harm to be done to other trans women. There are plenty of complicating factors as there often are in real life that social media isn't really capable of parsing. I have made it clear repeatedly that I am open to hearing anything that people involved want to say to me, and I talked in this post in January about that and about what I would be doing to ensure that I put in the work and make sure I don't cause harm like it again
https://x.com/sophie_frm_mars/status/1745414530455261531
I think that that post says everything I would like to say for now, although I regret saying I agree that my behaviour was abusive, because with more distance and perspective I don't think abusive behaviour was actually described to me.
As I understand it via the support that my therapist and friends have offered, my problems in 2023 were that: I wasn't taking my mental health seriously, I didn't learn good kink practice, I had very little appreciation of my own boundaries and when I shouldn't be doing something that someone asks me to do, and I was high basically all the time. I am in therapy and doing DBT and taking my mental health deadly seriously, I have done a huge amount of reading assigned by my therapist about kink, sex, relationships and mental health, I am working in an ongoing way on learning how to effectively communicate, know my boundaries and understand myself well enough to not be in the kinds of situations that risk harm, and I'm no longer high all the time.
(If anyone is interested in those book recs, so far I've read: Tomorrow Sex Will Be Good Again by Katherine Angel; The Right To Sex by Amia Srinivasan; Screw Consent (I hate this edgy title) by Joseph Fischel; Playing Well With Others; The Loving Dominant by John and Libby Warren; I Hope We Choose Love by Kai Cheng Thom; The New Topping Book by Dossie Easton and Janet W Hardy; and Dissociation Made Simple by Jamie Marich. There have been some others, and I've written a bit about them in the book club channel on my discord as I've been reading)
I haven't heard from the people involved. The last I heard from anyone was one of my exes calling me a pathological liar and saying that they just want to move on with their lives, so while I'm doing the work to make sure I act better in future I am just trying to get on with my life and let them get on with theirs. I hope this clarifies why I have not talked further about the situation.
I will say that the last few months have been hellish for me. I have been frequently suicidal, I spent Christmas and new years alone, I lost a tooth because I couldn't afford proper dental treatment, people from within the community I've been ostracised from have been putting pressure on my remaining friends to cut ties with me, Keffals had my abuser on her twitch stream, a bizarre exaggerated and monsterised version of my personal life has been publicly gossiped about by trans people, fash and "leftist" drama streamers alike, I have been doing other work to make sure I can still pay rent and afford my bills and my HRT, and to survive. As I've been getting more stable and more able to focus on things besides this, I've been working on new writing because all I want with regard to my work and my channel is for my writing to help people. I don't want to talk about my private life, but I do understand that some number of people will feel after what has been said about me that they can't move forward with me without hearing the full details. Lots of people in my life have repeatedly encouraged me to publish a full account of everything that happened but I know how the Internet works and I don't want other trans women to be harmed in the ways that I have been harmed.

Charlie Spring, An Appreciation: Part 1, Courage
Nick Nelson gets a lot of love, and justifiably so; I'll be the first to admit that he's amazing (see my many Nick-related posts as evidence). But I hear all too often that Charlie is leveling up by being with Nick, or that Nick is too good for Charlie. I beg to differâvehementlyâand here's why, part 1 (of 3, maybe?).
I often find myself in awe of Charlie during some of the quietest and least dramatic parts of the Heartstopper show and comics, because his bravery, resilience, and tenacity are displayed in ways that seem inconsequential, but are actually incredibly meaningful and telling. This boy has a thread of steel running through him, whether it's obvious at first glance or not.
We see this almost from the very beginning, when Charlie is assigned to a new form and told that he'll be sitting next to Nick, "one of the rugby boys," and, "I'm sure you'll get along swimmingly." Here is not only Charlie's worst personal nightmare, but also a teacher who is blithely unaware of the terrible position he's just put Charlie in--being placed in close, daily proximity to the type of person Charlie associates with the darkest time of his life. But we don't see fear on his face, or even that much dreadâthis tells us so much about him in just a nanosecond. There's resignation and bitterness, yes, but Charlie knows he can withstand this, because he's been there before and survived. This is borne out in later conversations with Nick where Charlie assures him that "I'm used to it." This is a horrifying injustice, one Nick rightly calls out, and it shows Charlie's resilience in the face of a degree of cruelty that many people never experience.
This little moment outside of the changing room is another revealing scene. Charlie knows exactly what he's walking into, exactly the kinds of comments and sly bullying he's going to experience in that room. He knows he will have to have his guard up every second, that he will have to prove himself to this group, even though he shouldn't have to. He also knows he'll be fighting his own self-doubt, and so this experience will be a battle on two fronts. (Three fronts, if you include trying to hide his feelings for Nick.) But he does it anyway. Sure, you could argue he's doing it solely to be near Nick, but I think this is also his way of making sure that those boys don't dictate his actions or his life. This is Charlie taking a stand. And this is just one exampleâhe does this over and over and over again, in many different settings and situations.
Case in point, calling it off with Ben. Charlie has been the victim of what is essentially brainwashing and abuse from Ben for months. Ben has told Charlie verbally and shown him physically that Charlie means less than nothing to Ben, and that Charlie can never expect anyone to ever want him or care for him. And Charlie often, tragically, believes him. That Charlie is able to break free of this vicious cycle and take the steps to distance himself from Ben shows his immense inner strength. You can see on Charlie's face (thanks to Joe Locke's inimitable talent) that he can't even believe he's done it. And we have to keep in mind that this happens long before Nick is a real possibility, so we can't say Charlie does this for Nick. He does it for himself.
I do have to include one of the more iconic scenes, because this âŹď¸is Charlie's clarion call, his hope, his banner, for the rest of this story. He knows he has a lot of problems to work through, that he's complicated and sometimes hard to interpret, so it's easy to see this scene and think Charlie's words come from a place of insecurity (and of course that is some of what's happening here). But he's strong enough to both acknowledge it and ask honestly that Nick not let those parts of Charlie become the focus of their relationship. He requests, even during this moment of almost brutal honesty and vulnerability, that Nick see him completely, as the whole person he can be, because Charlie knows that person is there inside himself. The self awareness and bravery this takes is enormous.
There are a million other moments like this that I could write about, both big and small:
But I'll end this already lengthy post with this: When one considers the amount of sheer courage Charlie has to exert just to live his daily life, it almost defies understanding. Charlie Spring is a gladiator of the mind and heart, completely worthy of any good thing.

is this real? - jude bellingham x reader.
quick sum: breakup, attempt of a makeup. but you're not here to play around, wanting security, but it doesn't help when jude can't find out what he really wants. is your love really worth the shot?
wc: 2.7 k | masterlist | jude's masterlist
psa đŁď¸: hi! i'm back this is kinda angsty and kinda meh :( i still hope you enjoy and like tho! also I will be starting a small jude series in the upcoming weeks, which I'm super excited about! in the mean time here is this :)
âHi, buddy. Hi! Howâs my big baby?â you say in a gentle voice to the German shepherd who couldn't stop licking your face in excitement, his tail wagging and almost crying. It was a month since you had seen Duke, and it was safe to say he missed you as well. He was a birthday gift from Jude about a year ago, since you had asked for one, and Jude wanted a guard dog when he wasn't home.Â
You remember the day vividly since it was during the summer, a few weeks before his season ended, and you had the opportunity to travel with Duke around the holidays you took. Duke was a momma's boy, he wouldnât ever leave your side no matter what. If Jude was here he would acknowledge him but he refused to leave your side. Duke was the biggest and softest sweetheart, he was so friendly and always so happy, so you wondered how he was after you and Jude split.Â
Duke came into your embrace and let you hold him for a good five minutes before you got up and made sure he had his breakfast. You practised a few tricks and rewarded him with treats after. He continued to follow you around as you picked up your suitcases and took them upstairs. He tilted his head to the side confused before he whined and touched your leg, âI'm not going anywhere buddy, at least not yet,â you leaned down and kissed his head. He ran up the stairs and watched as you ragged up the three suitcases.Â
Duke layed on the carpet as you went into the closet and began to retrieve your jeans and leggings from the drawer, along with your other skirts and shorts you had. Those all barely fit into one suitcase, having to lay on top of it in order to close it. One task was done but you still had to retrieve the other parts of your stuff. You wanted to make sure no trace of you was left behind. Wanting to leave a blank new canvas for Judeâs life.Â
After putting that suitcase in your car, you walked back upstairs and started to take your shirts from the hangers. You never realised just how much clothes you had. Any of the shirts or dresses Jude had gifted you, you set them aside in a different pile in a box labelled âdo whatever you wantâ for Jude to decide. You were being petty but you didn't care, you didn't want anything to do with him anymore, all the jewellery and stuff he gave you went into that box, including that damn promise ringâŚ
âY/n we need to talkâŚâ Jude sighed, he shifted towards you as you sat on the park bench overlooking the small lake. âWhat's up? Is everything okay?â you ask, your full attention towards him. Jude covered his face, his breathing becoming uneasy as well as his heart. He wanted to avoid it but when you saw his state, the goosebumps appearing, you knew what he was about to do⌠it was a sign and you felt it.
âI-I-I wanna break up,â he stuttered, avoiding how you stared shocked with wide eyes at him. You let out a small gasp as tears brimmed your eyes, âBut why? Have I done something?â you say shaky. You had the urge to reach over and comfort him, wipe his tears away, and reassure him you were here for him, but now you could just stare at him. Stare at his bloodshot eyes, his eyes completely dark and uneasy.Â
âYou haven't done a single thing, baby, I have to do this⌠I'm moving away and I just canât do long distance, knowing that I'm holding you back. I also want to focus on myself and my career, I canât let this move go to waste, it's a dream and an opportunityâŚâ
Your gaze averted to the white swans in front of you, watching as they cuddled into each other, and swam away. You said nothing, having difficulty processing his words. It seemed like he made up his mind, and you always said you wouldn't hold him back⌠but now all you wanted to do was fight for your relationship. Fight for him. âSay somethingâŚâ Jude said, watching intently as your bottom lip trembled.Â
You sniffled and wiped your nose and tears away as you stood up. âWhatâs there to say⌠youâve made up your mind. Iâll just go along with itâ You smiled and shrugged upset, turning around and beginning to walk away from him. You heard as Jude shuffled around, and jogged towards you. âWait wait wait, what do you mean? You have to say something, Y/n!â
âNo, I donât. All I can say is I hope it goes well with you Jude, that you have the best season ever in Madrid⌠And no, you wouldâve not held me back⌠I know what I want, but now it looks like you're not a part of it,â you avoided his pleading eyes. Your gaze returned back to the white swans who now drifted away from each other. âDon't do this Y/nâŚâ Jude begged, grabbing your chin gently, facing you to him where he had tears running down his face.
âDonât make this harder than it already is, Jude. Iâll miss you but I wonât beg for you to stay, hold you back like you say. Iâll respect your decisionâŚâ Jude just stared at the girl who he loves to walk away. Jude cursed at himself, jogging to you because he made a mistake, a regret. But it was too late because you quickly disappeared.Â
The first few days were rough, you avoided any light or noise, just staring out at the wall in front of you. But you grew angry at yourself and the world. Jude had left you, and everything inside you felt broken. You couldn't shake away the tears anytime you saw him pop into your head. Jude was a constant reminder he would always be there.Â
For Jude it was worse, he showed up to training late, spoke only to his brother and mom who grew concerned, and even lost his spot in the starting eleven for their last game. Jude was devastated and without you there, he couldn't piece his life together. Jude wouldn't sleep, especially now that your sweet scent was gone from his pillow and sheets. If someone had asked Jude if this was where he would have been a year ago he would have laughed at their face. Â
Jude had come back from a last meeting with his club, he was exhausted and only wanted to sleep. But he was taken back when he saw the house spotless, and it was strange that Duke didn't greet him at the door. But he smelled that sweet scent again, lingering all over the living room and kitchen, were you here?
Jude tried and tried to contact you, asking how you were or what you were doing, but there wasn't any sign of you. He would just watch your stories when you'd post but it looked like you were always with someone⌠He was beginning to grow frustrated, why couldn't you respond back to him?Â
Jude walked up the stairs, seeing the bedroom door you once shared open. He looked around the room and saw different clothes piled everywhere. âNo no, this canât be happening..â Jude said out loud causing you to get startled. You avoided his gaze and whispered a small âshit, fuckâ. You werenât expecting him to come so soon home, or was it that you were here for more than you intended to be? Judeâs eyes directed to you, who was standing there looking effortlessly elegant and beautiful, his Y/nâŚ
âI've set all the clothes and stuff youâve given me in this box⌠you can do what you please with them, I donât want itâŚâ you say in a soft tone, cutting the silence from the room. Jude shook his head, still trying to process everything, âThis can't be real⌠There is no way this is happening right now⌠This is just a dream right.â Jude paced back and forth, a hand on his forehead as he nervously chuckled.
Why was it so difficult to process what you were doing? Why was the image of you packing causing an ache in his chest? Why did it feel like you were packing away every memory and throwing it away? You were packing your stuff away and Jude knew it would be the last time he saw or heard of you. âJude⌠Calm downâŚâ you say, just watching as he sits on the bed in denial. âThis day was bound to come⌠We have to move on, you know?âÂ
âItâll be okay Jude-â
âNo, it wonât. I canât move on knowing that I still love you and the fact you're here packing everything away is hurting me, Y/nâŚâ Jude stressed, just wanting to feel your comfort, your hands relaxing his tense body and whispering that you would stay. âJude you broke up with me. I'm giving you space to figure yourself out but you canât hold onto hope one day things will change. This is what you wanted, no?â you said, testing the waters.Â
Jude went silent, unsure of what to say. He wanted to blurt out to stay, to not leave, that he loves you, but he had trouble doing so. Duke stood and came to your side, going between your legs and sitting, he was protecting you, Duke sensed you were feeling sad and recognized you felt like crying. âNo, this wasn't what I wanted⌠I thought if I did what I did, it would benefit both of us but for me, it isn't⌠Fuck I canât even drink my coffee without thinking of you there!â
Jude stood up, his height intimidated you as he towered over you, and you became shy and nervous. âI canât sleep knowing the pain I caused for both of us or the fact your scent isn't in my sheets anymore⌠I canât go and pass by the park we visit because it reminds me of you. I canât help the fact I lost my best friend and girlfriend at the same time because I thought I was doing the right thing in protecting our hearts⌠Or it's the fact I refuse to let you go because I love you still.â
âProtect us from what exactly? Jude, I thought we were doing fine! We discussed how our relationship would work once you moved to Madrid. I have a year left of uni, graduating early so I can start my career early because that has always been my plan. You wouldn't hold me back from anything, I knew what I was getting myself into when I started dating you⌠If you had these doubts we could've talked it out, maybe save ourselves from all this!â
âI was scared you would lose interest and get tired of all the back and forth. Scared you would get unhappy knowing that the long distance would affect us both. I wouldn't know how you felt, and you drifting away, us growing apart, I didn't want that,â Jude insists, his hand connecting with your jaw and running his thumb along your cheek. You leaned into his touch, relishing the feeling, and fluttered your eyes closed, a sense of safety and home.Â
âIn a relationship, thereâs stuff we need to sacrifice to make it work, and I was willing to do that because I love you. I want to see you succeed Jude, after all these years, the hard work, and dedication, you deserve this. Which is why I think it's best if we leave things as it is⌠Weâre so used to and wrapped around each other we-â
âNo no no, please-â
âYou don't know what you want Jude! You pick and decide and live life as it goes! And I can't put myself through that because look at you now, you first claiming you couldn't do long distance and now saying we could work it out. What if two months in you realise it wasn't what you wanted? Are you becoming unhappy and breaking up once again? I refuse to be put through that, be treated like a test or lab rat just for your self-satisfaction. I also deserve to be happy,â you state, frustrated wiping your tears away and stepping back from him.Â
Jude knew you were right, he hated it because it meant that now his biggest nightmare was becoming true. You were done, you were just done, youâd be willing to move on. Jude knew you for who you were, a girl who would listen and observe and not comment, but when you talked you spoke to let the message be clear and heard. So hearing this from you was quite humbling. He didn't know what he wanted, he was confused.Â
âYouâll meet new people in Spain, this is just the beginning of something exciting and yet scary. Try it out Jude enjoy it, because this depends on how your future will be, around the people you're surrounded with⌠You never know, you may just find yourself where you should be⌠And I will always be here for you like I have, but right now it's better if we just focus on ourselvesâŚâ you say frowning, your palms sliding against each other to soothe your nerves.Â
Jude just let out a breath and cried, his shoulders shaking and lips trembling which caused you to tear up knowing what you said was hurting him. But in all honestly it was the truth, âCome here,â you said, Jude didn't hold back and wrapped his arms around you, his head hiding in the crook of your neck as he let himself be completely vulnerable, holding you tight so he could relish the moment forever. Duke whined and laid his head on your legs, confused.Â
Four months later here you were in England, mostly busy at Uni and an internship you managed to get after getting a referral. Duke and you enjoy walks in the morning and sometimes evening, going to dog parks to clear your head. You hate to say it but the breakup had taken a huge toll on you, you refused to admit it though. It was hard to lose the only person who had been there from day one.Â
Jude was thriving in Spain, quickly fitting into the team and contributing to many goals and some assists. Best and youngest player, with many nominees to awards, It looked like he was doing better and happy, but you wouldn't know since your messages became less and less through those four months. You hated feeling a bit angry, jealous, and frustrated because he was doing better than you.Â
But that would vanish because, at the end of the day, his happiness was yours as well. Even though you were miles apart, there was always something that brought the two of you together, which was Duke. You relished the good memories with Jude and cried to sleep because it wouldn't happen soon again. But a moment of honesty, you had to move on and not hold onto hope he would come back and chase you.
You learned to live with the fact but it was still hard to process. Maybe in another lifetime, you could have what you did with Jude, but for now, you were okay. It might be hard, but if something is worth fighting for, then it will occur, they just needed and required a huge miracle. You might have lost Jude but it meant you could learn from that and become a stronger person.Â
Having been invited to an art gallery and museum, you got ready for the evening. Had the patience to complete a perfect blowout, and do your makeup. You also had the chance to wear your new black dress that fit perfectly for the evening. âHow do I look Duke?â his head propped up and barked, which made you giggle.Â
You turned to face the mirror for one last look, fixing your necklace, hiding the J initial that was still there, and spraying your favourite perfume. Your doorbell rang, and a few knocks were heard as you approached the door. Unbeknownst to you, Jude was on the other side. You opened the door to reveal him. âJude!â you gasped, Duke coming to your side and shaking his tail when he saw Jude. Judeâs eyes roamed your body, his mouth slightly agape feeling breathless.
âI was hoping we could talk. Can I come in?â

DEREK TALKING TO LITTLE BUG WAS ADORABLE I'M NOT DOING WELL (i might just be touch starved idk)
also derek's definitely suuuper overprotective like even more when bug is pregnant, it's Bad
You're touch-starved, I'm touch-starved, we're all touch-starved boo. Isn't that why we're here fantasizing about fictional men :")
but omg yeah yeah yeah I see your vision. I think bcs of what happened to her, the doctor would recommend Extra Maternity Care for Bug. like Derek would've already been bad if it was a normal pregnancy, but as soon as he heard the word "risky" from the doctor's mouth, it was as if all sense flew out of the window
btw this turned out to be more emotional than I planned KJKJAASSJ I'M SO SORRY I GOT CARRIED AWAY
Love Bugs Masterlist / Criminal Minds Masterlist
"Just what the hell do you think you're doing?"
Derek's voice boomed in the middle of the HQ bullpen, attracting the attentions of fellow agents nearby including those of your team who were still in the office.
You rotated your head left and right, searching for the object of Derek's sudden vexation, only to realize a few seconds later that his eyes had been staring straight at you.
"You're talking to me?"
Instead of answering, Derek marched the few feet of distance separating you from him. "What are you doing, Bug?"
You raised your eyebrows in genuine confusion. "Um, strapping my gun to its holster?"
"You're not going out there."
"Excuse me?"
It had been a few weeks since the whole fiasco of your abduction. After a few days of staying in the hospital and a couple more weeks of bedrest, your doctor had finally cleared you back for duty. You were beginning to get antsy about going back to work, but your doctor's note was clear: you needed to take it easy once you were back, considering that the rough start to your pregnancy meant more risks looming overhead.
It wasn't an ideal situation, but for the sake of your baby, you swallowed the hard pill without a fight. Hotch couldn't be more understanding when you explained what was going on to him. He promised you that you could sit out any strenuous and potentially harming activities during the course of any investigation that might have fallen on the BAU's lap. Your fellow teammates were just as considerate, vowing to cover your ass at any instance you might need.
All and all, everyone around you was pretty clear-headed about the whole situation.
Except for Derek.
Since your last doctor visit, Derek had been driving you nuts with his overprotective streak. It was adorable, at first. The fact that he was extremely worried something might happen to you and the baby that he kept refusing to leave your side even when you were only stepping out to grab the mail or pay for takeout. But then, it got worse.
While his overprotectiveness seemed to have infiltrated every aspect of your life, it previously never affected your job at any capacity. Until now. You were seething internally over the fact that Derek had chosen to do this--to speak to you like this--at your place of work, where your coworkers could listen in to every word exchanged between the two of you.
Not wanting to cause a scene, you took a deep breath to press down the frustration, before your leveled voice spoke, "It's just a routine questioning, Derek. I'll be fine."
"You're not going out on the field, Bug."
"Derek." His name sounded like a threat through your teeth. "I'm not going out there to see a suspect, or to insert myself in a dangerous situation. Emily and I are just going to take a quick drive down to Woodbridge to interview the victim's family. Nothing is going to happen."
"Yeah, Morgan," Emily's voice chimed in from somewhere to your left. "It's gonna be fine. It's just routine questioning. I'm sure we can ma--"
Emily stopped talking and threw her hands in surrender once she noticed the daggers in Derek's eyes. You watched as she scurried off, as far away from the two of you as possible.
"You promised you'll take it easy," Derek said.
"I am taking it easy! I told you, it's just a normal questioning!"
Your own anger was threatening to burst by this point. Before one or the two of you could say something further--something that would warrant a lengthy call from the HR department--Derek tugged you towards the vacant pantry in the corner. Once inside, he closed the door behind him to shut out the rest of the floor from your private conversation.
"Do you realize how insane you've been acting?" Your voice dripped with anger. "I know you're worried, I get it. I appreciate it. But jeez, Derek, you aren't letting me breathe here. I can't do anything without you lurking around my fucking neck!"
The last echo of your voice dissipated into thin air, and yet, Derek still seemed to be rooted in the same spot he had been standing on since the two of you entered this pantry. He pinched the bridge of his nose for a second before that intense gaze was back to lighting fire on your skin.
"Do you know you were dead?"
"What?"
"In that basement. You were dead when I found you."
The frown between your eyebrows cleared once you realized Derek was talking about the abduction.
He had been refusing to talk about that ever since you came back home.
"I couldn't find a pulse when I got to you. I was the one who did the chest compressions before the paramedics arrived. I saw the heart monitor, Bug. You flatlined." Derek took a large step forward. "You were dead, and I held you in my arms. So forgive me if you think I'm being crazy with all of this, but the sight of you not breathing isn't exactly something I wanna see twice in my life."
The weight of Derek's admission settled heavily in the center of the room. Little by little, the ice that had hardened inside your chest was starting to melt. You looked deeper into Derek's unrelenting gaze, realizing that beneath the irrational protectiveness actually lay a justifiable fear he was trying to hide.
"I'm sorry you had to go through that, Derek," you offered sincerely. "But you can't keep me on a leash just because you're scared of hypothetical scenarios. The past is just that: the past. I'm safe now. Me and the baby are safe and we're here with you."
Derek closed his eyes and sighed. "I just don't want to lose you."
"And you won't. But you will drive me away if you keep this up," you told him. "Tell you what, I'll sit this one out for now. Just don't expect much from me for next time, yeah?"
"Thank you," Derek breathed out in relief. He closed the few feet of distance between the two of you in two long strides before securing you in his arms, pressing a grateful kiss to your hairline. "Thank you."
"Remember, this is a two-way street, Mister," you said as you looked straight into his eyes. "I'm expecting compromises to be made."
Derek flashed you a charming grin before answering, "Yes, ma'am."
When he pulled you in for a kiss, it was as if every remaining frustration in your bones dissolved into thin air.
The next few weeks managed to transpire in a mutual compromise. You tried to appease Derek's mind by choosing your responsibilities accordingly, while Derek tried reining in his protective instinct, even if miserably.
Still, even with the intensity lessened, sometimes Derek's antics were just too outrageous to excuse.
"Derek, you know this is absolute crazy, right?"
"I don't know what you're talking about," Derek shrugged before adjusting the hold he had around your body.
It was the day of the earthquake drill at Quantico. Just thirty minutes prior, everyone in the building had been directed to evacuate from the emergency exit in a single file. Though it did explain the reason why you found yourself stuck in the middle of a barely moving line on the staircase, it didn't, however, explain the reason why you found yourself being carried in Derek's arms, bridal style.
"This is completely ridiculous," you grumbled once the line started moving again. "Everyone is staring."
"That's just 'cause you're pretty, Bug."
A few steps down, you could see JJ and Spencer stealing glances towards where you and Derek were standing. Your pleading eyes caught JJ's at one point, but the blonde woman only raised her thumbs up before the moving line made her disappear from view.
"You do know I'm still able to support myself on my own two feet, right?"
"Of course I do, Bug," Derek replied. "But why would you have to when I'm strong enough to carry you?"
Derek's answer made you groan in annoyance. A series of laughter from above compelled you to look up at the source, seeing two women whispering among themselves while openly pointing at your direction. You buried your face in the column of Derek's neck to escape their scrutiny, feeling the embarrassment traveled up your neck in a flaming red heat.
You were so never going to live this down.
