Yeah, Equius wanted Aradia to be equal with him by making sure she has the same blood color as him in that new body. Epilogues Meat also mentions that Karkat ate CHOCOLATE COVERED BEETLES, confirming that yes, trollkind eats bugs and insects. They would find shit like casu marzu (cheese with maggots), kamaro (mole crickets), mezcal worm, abuos (ant egg caviar), adobong salagubang (seasoned may beetle), uok (coconut worms), and other insect dishes across the world as actual meals for them. I mean, this is the same Alternia alien trollkind that has their Christmas decorate LITERAL MONSTER SHIT instead of a pine tree. And it really is shit, even Karkat says BEHEMOTH LEAVINGS towards his Future self, confirming that the trolls celebrate the holidays with POOP. Makes me wonder when people ship troll x human, would the fans want the humans engage in troll culture? Or would the trolls be corrected that their customs and beliefs were wrong and that human kind is better and healthier? I'm definitely on the side that has humans fixing them. No way fans would accept something like Dave kissing Karkat after the troll ate a dung beetle for dessert.

I hate being a person who loves bugs, I can't say anything without the person I'm talking to reacting with disgust. Today I had to literally beg a coworker for the life of a spider, and then after I put it in a nook outside she thought it'd be funny to show me a video she took of her killing one. Like idk man. Birds scare the shit out of me but I still get why people love them. They come in pretty colors and they sound nice and they're interesting to observe. I don't understand why people don't feel the same about bugs. The rich amber color of a cockroach, the iridescent glow of a fly, the intricate hydraulics that power their little legs, the chirp of a beetle, the art of the spider's web... It's all so beautiful. Why is it the habit of so many to destroy?

something that kinda ticks me off in the bug community is when people act like a bug has to be a useful part of the ecosystem to deserve to exist. Like for example whenever mosquitos get hated (like where people are like we should kill mosquitos entirely) people's responses are always "well mosquitos are actually polinators and do..." like. yeah i get that but just bc they are helpful isnt what gives intrinsic value! its really annoying to me, because the response to posts like that (the hating of bugs) shouldnt be "oh but its helpful!" it should be "damn. thats honestly a really weird thing to say, and the fact that you think we should eradicate an entire species (weather or not its "annoying" or "scary") off the face of the planet is a huge red flag to me, an annoying/scary individual."

What I think is so important to learning how to truly appreciate life is learning how to appreciate the creatures and things we've categorized as "disgusting" or "gross."

When I learned to appreciate wasps, I realized how much they just... don't really care about anything, and they're not trying to be an asshole because they're uniquely cruel. If they have any wants, it is to live. Why would I punish that when I also want to live?

This isn't to say you need to fall in love with the creepy crawlies that stalk this world or to love what you cannot, but to recognize that in their arrangement of atoms, they are trying to persevere, and in the end... aren't we all?

there are yes, and there are definitely at least 1 or 2 points in the game in various dungeons where they're unavoidable

Omg this one was such a challenge!! For one, I never do props so it was a fun change of pace. I also struggled with her hair for a long time but am overall very happy with how it ended up looking. And the fact that I've never drawn a kimono before was an unexpected challenge as well.

On another note, I didn't end up adding her little cape/coat thing because I just couldn't get it to look clean and good in this drawing. Please forgive me! I might end up trying again in the future to do her better justice

In the end, this was an amazing challenge of a character, very outside my usual comfort zone. Thank you so so much for your submission, your art is so truly amazing and I really hope I captured Satomi's essence at least a little <333

what i don't understand about the people who are like "we'll all be eating bugs in the future!" is that they always seem to be talking about like. whole bugs. the way people eat like crickets with chocolate or something on them, or the lollipop that comes with a tiny scorpion in it. and it's like... those wouldn't exist if people didn't like to eat them, but it's a cultural thing. americans generally don't eat bugs, i think that's a fair statement to make, and most reactions you get here are horrified. but every time i hear someone talk about this, they seem to completely miss that insects can be made into other stuff. there's bug flour! probably bugs pressed into a meat shape too! idk! but anything that doesn't look or feel like a goddamn bug because not only do i understand the people around me, i also don't want to put a bug in my mouth!
