Something Real - This is hands down one of my favorite things I've written for Astarion x Liv. It's one of those times where I feel like my fic idea and the writing just came together exactly right. To me, it captures everything I wanted it to, and when I think about the level of prose I'm striving for, this has been the standard for me for a while.

What Moves in the Dark - I know that Invisible String is the popular one, but this long fic absolutely exploded out of me. The idea was fully formed all the way, and it was one of the easiest writing experiences start to finish that I've ever had. My first foray into horror! Really proud of pushing myself to try something new, and overall, I'm still very proud of the finished product. It's exactly the sort of post-game Astarion fic I'd want to read!

Rattle - This fic contains my favorite line I've ever written about Astarion: "It’s a neat little lie, dangling hope out like a noose and hoping that his siblings hang themselves with it. It falls so naturally off his tongue, casual and cruel. Astarion has long since stopped trying to cut her, so she has forgotten how sharp he can be." It just....ugh. Where did that come from? Can I get my brain to make more of it?

What Doesn't Break - First DA fic in actual years. Lucanis as a character ticks a lot of boxes for me in what I find interesting, and it was fun to get into his head for the first time. Also, I just love introducing a new OC. It's fun!

The Trouble With Home - I still really love this fic. It's probably the least standalone of the whole Bright Lost Things series for Astarion and Liv, but I think there's a good push and pull here of them trying to figure out what their after looks like. And it's messy and it isn't easy, and they don't absolutely agree, but they're very specifically doing this together and it felt very them.

The fact that they chose to adapt Hugh Hammer as one of Saera's sons and had him claim Jaehaerys's dragon but made no reference to Saera up until this point and, more importantly, that Hugh is outright "ashamed of her" is like... such fucking bullshit.

there is a judge in Seattle who does the weekly name change hearings, and who says it's her favorite part of the week. she says she doesn't read out previous names, or ask about the reasons why people want to change them. she says it's a beautiful moment, and a celebration; a claiming of a new identity, or a reclamation of an old identity. she encourages the room to clap for folks. then she welcomes everyone up, one by one, by last name and with warmth; she shows them the court order where nobody else can see, asks them to double check the spelling, and then they're done! do they want a picture? do they want their friends and loved ones who came with them to be in it too? do they want the court order in the photo? she helps everyone pose, shakes hands and stands with them for as long as they need to take it, recruits the clerk for help taking photos of the folks who came alone. then she tells them where to go next, congratulates them, and claps along with the rest of the room.

probably three quarters of the people there were trans, and she centered their experience quietly, with love and joy.

I think I'll be thinking about her a lot this January, and for a long time after. it's good to know she's there.

I’m sorry but I will truly never get over Ekko who lost his mentor and all his friends at a young age, then spent the rest of his childhood building a beautiful and strong community that helped get shimmer addicts off the streets and give them a new life that thrived off of trust, respect, and loyalty while slowly watching the girl he loves lose herself to her psyche and become an unhinged suicidal terrorist who he is unable to save despite repeated attempts at it. And THEN gets booted into an alternate reality where he learns he could have had EVERYTHING, the beautiful and thriving community, the education, his family, and the girl he loves and he heartbreakingly leaves it all behind because he knows he doesn’t belong there and he has to go back to save his people which he DOES multiple times at great risk despite knowing what overextending his z-drive could do only to end up completely alone in the end. The most selfless character in the entire series. That’s my boy savior.
