It's such a weird feeling not being in contact with your mother (It's been about 10 years now), but every now and then you'll see something you knew she liked (or possibly still likes) and all you want is to talk to her, but you have reasons to why you aren't in contact anymore.

Anastacia - Not That Kind 2000
"Not That Kind" is a song by American singer-songwriter Anastacia from her debut album, Not That Kind (2000). The song, co-written by herself, was originally performed on the MTV talent show The Cut in 1998, where she had impressed Elton John and Michael Jackson as well as the show's judges David Foster and Faith Evans, which in turn helped the her receive a record deal. The song was released as the album's second single on October 2, 2000, reaching the top 20 in nine European countries, but failed to chart in the US.
Bolstered by the global success of lead single "I'm Outta Love", the album reached the top five of the majority of the countries in Europe and Oceania, including Australia, Germany and the UK (all number two), also topping the charts in New Zealand and Norway. The album eventually sold over five million copies worldwide. Anastacia has been public about several health issues, including Crohn's disease and two instances of breast cancer. In recognition of her charitable efforts in breast cancer awareness, Anastacia became the second woman ever to receive the Humanitarian Award at the GQ Men of the Year Awards, in 2013.
"Not That Kind" received a total of 75,2% yes votes!

Best World Cup Official Song
Relevant context and links to songs under the cut:
"Waka Waka (This Time for Africa)" is a song by Colombian singer Shakira, featuring the South African band Freshlyground. Co-written by Shakira and John Hill, it was released on 7 May 2010 as the official song of the 2010 FIFA World Cup, which was held in South Africa. Released in English and Spanish (with the title "Waka Waka (Esto es África)"), the song samples the original Cameroonian makossa song "Zamina mina (Zangaléwa)" by Golden Sounds and the lyrics encourage one to aim for their goals like a soldier on a battlefield.

Anyone remember that singer Anastacia? She had a handful of hits in the early to mid 2000s ("I'm outta love" being one of them, if you wanna look her up)
Anyway, she had some genuine bops and yet she was relentlessly mocked by radio station DJs for her unusual singing voice, and that just never sat right with me. And not just because i likee her songs, it just seemed so...cruel. Typical y2k cruelty in hindsight, just absolutely no reason to treat her like that.
Anyway hope she's doing well.

The wild thing is, I don't think I had a real beef with Natasha Beddingfield as a singer when she first hit the radio waves in the 2000s. She felt like another iteration of that singer that gave rise to Anastacia ("One Day in Your Life") and Nikka Costa ("Like a Feather"), but nowhere near their vocal range.
But, holy shit, you could not escape "Unwritten" or "Pocket Full of Sunshine". No matter where I went, I feel like I was hearing this woman in the malls, on television, and every other 20 minutes on the radio.
I wanted to scream. Instead, I just became a hater.
All this to say: I was wondering why Natasha Bedingfield's "Unwritten" was suddenly hitting my social media timeline like I had traveled back in 2004. And of course, Netflix's disingenuous use of jukebox music or non-diegetic music is behind it.
And, yeah, it got me feeling nostalgic for the days the worse thing in the world was hearing a pop song the radio was trying to make happen lmao

HAPPY BIRTHDAY to Anastacia, recording artist/singer-songwriter Ben Anderson (great to have worked with you), Rita Arya, Bill Black, Kyle Chandler, Dolores Costello, Elvira a.k.a. Cassandra Peterson (good to have met you), Will Gregory (Goldfrapp), Charles Tomlinson Griffes, Ken Kesey, Mark Kleiner, Baz Luhrmann, Roddy McDowall, Brother Jack McDuff, Lamonte McLemore (5th Dimension), Reinhold Messner, the 2010 documentary WHO IS HARRY NILSSON & WHY IS EVERYBODY TALKING ABOUT HIM?, Robert B. Parker, Joseph D. Pistone, John Ritter, Rita Rudner, The Supremes 1964 “Baby Love” single, Ty Tabor (King’s X), Michiyo Tsujimura 辻村みちよ, Fee Waybill (The Tubes—keep up the good work), and one of America’s best-known cultural ambassadors, Luke the Drifter a.k.a. The Hillbilly Shakespeare a.k.a. Mr. Lovesick Blues a.k.a. Timber Snake, singer-songwriter Hank Williams. He learned guitar from African-American blues musician Rufus Payne (a.k.a. Tee Tot), and that, along with the music of Roy Acuff and Ernest Tubb, influenced Hank’s style.
Chronic back pain, alcoholism, and pill addiction took a toll on Hank’s heart and he died young and tragically, but in his short but hugely influential career he released 55 Top 10 singles with 12 #1 records. He’s cited as one of the essential pioneers of contemporary country music, but his reach extended into mainstream pop, rock’n’roll, and even jazz, as his songs (now considered to be American standards) were covered by hit-makers of the day—and still are.
A 78 of Hank’s “Lovesick Blues” turned up in my house when I was kid, and on TV I watched the biopic film I SAW THE LIGHT, a song that has always been with me. In recent years I started performing regularly in assisted living homes, and my set includes Hank’s “Hey Good Lookin’” (along with “Jambalaya”). He wrote and recorded "Hey, Good Lookin'" in 1951 (it was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2001). The song has been covered by countless artists and was a precursor to the genre known as Rockabilly. Hank was friendly with musician Jimmy Dickens. Having told Jimmy that he needed a hit record if he was going to become a star, Hank said he’d write it and penned "Hey Good Lookin'" in only 20 minutes while on a plane with Jimmy and entertainer Minnie Pearl. A week later Hank recorded it himself, jokingly telling Jimmy, "That song's too good for you!" Here’s my cover of it (recorded by Chris von Sneidern). Meanwhile, HB HW and thank you for crafting so many great songs. https://johnnyjblairsingeratlarge.bandcamp.com/track/hey-good-lookin

Eugene Allen Booker, Jr. (December 19, 1962) known professionally as Chuckii Booker, is a producer, singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and bandleader from Los Angeles.
He emerged in the late 1980s as an urban contemporary R&B artist and producer. He began recording music after being signed by his godfather, Barry White, to his production company in 1984. He played keyboards with Tease for three years.
He received his recording contract in an unlikely manner. He gave his demo tape to the manager of Gerald Albright to showcase his skills as a musician but had forgotten about the songs on the other side of the tape that contained original songs with his vocals. He was offered a recording contract with Atlantic Records.
He released his debut album Chuckii in 1989 in which he played all the instruments and sang all vocals. The album fared well on the strength of hit singles “(Don’t U Know) I Love U” and the #1 R&B single “Turned Away”. The follow-up and its final studio album to date Niice ‘N Wiild was released in 1992 and yielded another chart-topping R&B hit “Games”. After the release of Niice ‘N Wiild, Booker retired from recording music.
He produced for several recording artists, including Troop, which yielded two #1 singles (“All I Do Is Think of You” & “Spread My Wings”), his godfather Barry White, Janet Jackson, Vanessa Williams, Demetrius Ross, Kool & the Gang and many more. He was the musical director, producer, and keyboardist for Janet Jackson’s Rhythm Nation World Tour as well as the opening act. He got the gig after he was invited by Jackson to the premiere of her long-form video Janet Jackson’s Rhythm Nation 1814. He was caught off guard when Jackson asked him after the screening to be her musical director for the tour.
He produced records for artists such as Lalah Hathaway, Troop, En Vogue, Angela Winbush, Diana Ross, Anastacia, Commissioned, Rihanna, Lionel Richie, Stevie Wonder, and Bette Midler. #africanhistory365 #africanexcellence

ok I had a kinda strange dream last night (but based on some reality cause I heard these two songs at least more than five times these days and had some thoughts on their lyrics) :
in 7x9 it wasn't the detective came to the gallagher house but damon, he delivered ian a concert ticket and said there's a surprise waiting for him. then the next night ian still went to the dock and mickey and damon were already with drum and guitar (both in black jumpsuits), so did a few audiences (and i vaguely remembered half of them are in prison suits but pink version like in that lil nas x's mv😅). mickey had sang some songs I didn't remember (probably didn't recognize too), and then the police car suddenly came only they didn't catch him but brought piano and sax, with those instruments mickey started to sing this song:
and he was facing to ian the whole time. after the song was over, one of the audiences in pink jumpsuit asked who was the original singer, mickey answered it with this song:
and through the song he was facing to ian too. in the last part of the song he changed the anastasia in lyrics to "iangallagher". after finished the song, he went straight to the police car with his band (damon and two cops). ian tried to chase after him but got pushed by the leaving audiences, when he was finally got to the car, mickey was sitting in the backseat, wearing the sunglasses. before ian could say anything, mickey interrupted him by handing him another ticket, said their next concert is in Mexico and he should come. then the police car just drove away.

On The Jukebox: Anastacia - "Our Songs (Gold Deluxe Edition)"
Tumblr media
Something I was not aware of when I listened to the original version of this album: this is a covers album (yes, the title "Our Songs" should have tipped me off, shush). Specifically, these are all songs by German singers or bands, often originally in German. As Anastacia does not sing in German, the songs that were originally in German have been translated. With that in mind, here's the tracklist:
"Best Days" (originally performed as "Tage Wie Diese" by Die Toten Hosen)
"Now Or Never" (originally performed as "An Guten Tagen" by Johannes Oerding)
"Beautiful" (originally performed as "Wie Schon Du Bist" by Sarah Connor)
"Still Loving You" (originally performed by Scorpions)
"Monsoon" (originally performed as "Durch Den Monsun" by Tokio Hotel although it is possible Anastacia is covering the version of the song that Tokio Hotel did in English)
"Born To Live" (originally performed as "Geboren Um Zu Leben" by Unheilig)
"Cello" (originally performed in German by Udo Lindenberg)
"Just You (featuring Peter Maffay)" (originally performed as "So Bist Du" by Peter Maffay)
"Symphony" (originally performed as "Symphonie" by Silbermond)
"Supergirl" (originally performed in German by Reamonn)
"Forever Young" (originally performed by Alphaville)
"An Angel" (originally performed by The Kelly Family)
"Highs & Lows" (originally performed by Michael Schulte)
"Control" (originally performed by Zoe Wees)
"Rooftop" (originally performed by Nico Santos)
