Wiadomo, w … Londynie.  Zanim jednak zaczniecie prychać oburzać się i wyśmiewać to stwierdzenie, powiem wam dlaczego londyńska pizza smakuje najlepiej. Otóż dlatego że „przyprawiona” jest jazzem. The Other 'Kalki' - T. Sadasivam and the origins of the 'Kalki' magazine
Thiagaraja Sadasivam, better known as 'Kalki' Sadasivam, was an Indian freedom fighter, singer, journalist and film producer. In his later years, he'd come to be more well known as the husband of the renowned musician M.S. Subbulakshmi.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
R. Krishnamurthy, better known as Kalki, was a Tamil writer, journalist, poet, critic and Indian independence activist who wrote under several pen-names like Tumbi, Tamil Teni, Karnatakam, Langulan, Agastyar, Ra Ki, Yaman, Vivasayi, Petron, Guhan, Tamil Magan, etc. but what captured his readers' fancy is the pseudonym 'Kalki'.
Tumblr media
T. Sadasivam and R. Krishnamurthy worked at Gemini Vasan's (who owned the legendary Gemini Studios as well) 'Ananda Vikatan' in 1930s but both left the magazine in the late 1930s, due to personal (Sadasivam's marriage with MS was scandalous for the times) and political (Vasan often got into trouble with the British government due to Krishnamurthy's works) reasons.
Tumblr media
From T. J. S. George's M.S Subbulakshmi: The Definitive Biography :
Sadasivam must have admired his own luck at that point. For he had not only the most marketable literary property at his disposal but also the most valuable musical property as well . . . With Rajagopalachari giving his approval to the idea, all three were inspired to take the plunge.
Tumblr media
Krishnamurthi, Rajaji, Sadasivam
Tumblr media
Rajaji, M S Subbulakshmi, Sadasivam
The name of the magazine suggested itself. Krishnamurthi’s writings had spread his pen name ‘Kalki’ so far and wide that Kalki as a magazine title would have the priceless advantage of instant recognition. That indeed turned out to be the case. Not only the originator of the pen name but also the manager-proprietor too would henceforth be identified by the magazine’s name; they would always be known as Kalki Krishnamurthi and Kalki Sadasivam.
Thanks to MS’s film successes, he found many a wealthy financier knocking at his doors ready to invest in her. But Sadasivam was not open to their ideas; they had to be open to his. Such a stipulation kept potential investors at bay until a film director named Y. V. Rao came along. His idea sounded preposterous . . . He would make up the shortfall in the Kalki capital, he said, if Subbulakshmi would act as Narada in a film he was planning to make, titled Savithri. Sadasivam felt scandalized. MS as a male character!
For Rao that was precisely the point. MS in male attire would act as an irresistible magnet for the masses . . . After holding discussions with Rajaji and Krishnamurthi and after making a few teasing references to the idea in conversation with MS herself, Sadasivam said yes to Rao . . .
Tumblr media
The first issue of Kalki
It took no time for Kalki to make a mark. That period was characterized by tremendous turbulence as a result of the war in Europe and Asia and the independence movement in India entering decisive phases. . . . Every day was a news day. The public appetite was keen for both incisive political commentaries and elevating literary works. Kalki Krishnamurthi’s pen satisfied the popular taste. Sadasivam’s managerial prowess found new inspiration in proprietorship. Combining creative credibility with entrepreneurial vitality, Kalki quickly grew into a part of Tamil history. Krishnamurthi, Sadasivam and Subbulakshmi, with Rajagopalachari hovering as a ‘presiding deity’, symbolized the vanguard of a virtual cultural renaissance in the Brahminic world of Madras. It would reach a peak with new historical novels appearing in a serialized form in the pages of the magazine—Ponniyin Selvan and Sivakamiyin Sapatham.
Krishnamurthy's daughter Anandi was married to Sadasivam's nephew Ramachandran and Sadasivam's daughter Vijaya was married to Krishnamurthy's son Rajendran.

BRIEF THREE- MOVEMENT
Painting- Week One
Artist research- Hima Af Klimt
Hilma af Klint was once known as a minor academic Swedish artist. Born in 1862, she had been one of the first women to graduate from the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Stockholm and had exhibited at the Swedish General Art Association.
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
Thses paimtings are her early works from the academy, but her most recognized paintings are not in the traditional style of art that she was taught by traditional art teachers. Her most renowned paintings reveale another life, a different art. Her involvement with spiritualism had radicalised her art to such an extent, that she can only be described as one of the greatest abstract artists.
Tumblr media
As we can see, this is quite a shift in style. But what caused this shift? Well, her belief system became more vast, as it did many for many around that time. The scientific discoveries of the late 19th and early 20th century encouraged many to question the very nature of the universe.
In the 17th century, Isaac Newton discovered light was made of particles. In the early 19th century, Goethe’s Theory of Colours led many to see colour had spiritual and psychological powers. In the early 20th century, Max Planck demonstrated light particles had energy.
Many began to think that, if the universe was more than it seemed, then perhaps there were other lives living on different astral planes. Perhaps it was possible for some to be mediums, opening themselves to communicate with spirit guides to these worlds.
At the end of the 19th century a new religion, Theosophy, appeared, incorporating both ancient wisdom and modern science.
It is not surprising af Klint should become a follower. What is surprising is the power of the art unleashed as a consequence.
Tumblr media
Af Klint was also influenced by another religious movement called spiritualism, which became popular in Europe and the United States during the mid- to late nineteenth century. Spiritualists believed in the existence of unseen spirits that could communicate with the living.
Af Klint began participating in séances in 1879, at the age of seventeen. The death of her sister one year later increased her interest in the practice. By the mid-1890s, she met regularly with a group of four other women who called themselves The Five.
Tumblr media
The Five believed they could communicate with mystic beings named “High Masters.” In trance-like states, the women transcribed messages from these beings, who identified themselves as Amaliel, Ananda, Clemens, Esther, Georg, and Gregor. These automatic writings and drawings allowed af Klint to develop her own visual language and move away from her formal academic training and toward abstraction. She attributed her early revolutionary forays into abstraction to an external spirit and not her own conscious mind. The automatic techniques used by The Five were common among spiritualists during that time. Several decades later, the Surrealists would use techniques of psychic automatism, not to transmit the messages of spirits but to tap into their own subconscious thoughts.
Tumblr media
(Seance room of The Five)
She felt the abstract work and the meaning within were so groundbreaking that the world was not ready to see it, and she wished for the work to remain unseen for 20 years after her death.
Tumblr media
I absolutley adore her abstract style. Its conveys the exact feeling I personay attribute to death and spirituality. Its an abstract expirience, not a physical one after all. I find Hima Af Klimts work very inspiring and will take inspiration from her work to apply within my own project.

Planet Dharma- Lineage and Spiritual Roots
Namgyal Rinpoche was born Leslie George Dawson in 1931, October 11, and raised in Toronto, Canada by parents of Irish and Scottish descent.
Leslie George Dawson awakened through the Western Mysteries while living in London, where he met the visiting teacher Sayadaw in 1958. Dawson moved to Burma and studied under U Thila Wunta and Mahasi Sayadaw in Bodh Gaya, Rangoon (where he was ordained as Ananda Bodhi), Bangkok and Sri Lanka.
Ananda Bodhi left the East in 1962, teaching at the London Buddhist Vihara and founding Johnstone House in Scotland, which he gave to Chögyam Trungpa who renamed it Samye Ling.
Anandabodhi returned to Canada and founded the Dharma Centre of Canada outside Toronto. His teaching methods included international travel with students; in 1968 and 1971 he traveled with about a hundred students to India and Sikkim, where they met the Tibetans. He was recognized by the 16th Karmapa, Kalu Rinpoche, Sakya Trizin Rinpoche and others as an embodiment of Namgyal Rinpoche, and received transmissions of the Karma Kargyu lineage.
Over the years he included the Western Mysteries, science, psychology, art, music, exercise, travel and other methods in his teaching repertoire, becoming one of the main voices of Tibetan Buddhism in North America along with Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche. Some of Namgyal’s students started centers in Japan, Australia, New Zealand, Europe and Central America as well as Canada and the US. His modern and eclectic approach is carried on throughout the world, with Clear Sky embodying this multiversal vision as well.
He continued to teach until his death in Switzerland on October 22, 2003, having empowered a number of senior students to continue his work.

Theri (transl. Spark) is a 2016 Indian Tamil-language action film written and directed by Atlee Kumar and produced by Kalaipuli S. Thanu under the banner V Creations. The film stars Vijay, Samantha Ruth Prabhu and Amy Jackson. The film's music is composed by G. V. Prakash Kumar, with cinematography handled by George C. Williams and editing done by Ruben. The title is inspired by the song of the same name from Vedalam. The story revolves around a former police officer who is on a mission to protect his daughter from gangsters and also seek revenge for the death of his wife and mother.
The film marked Kumar's second directorial after Raja Rani (2013), whose success impressed Vijay to work with the director. Atlee came up with the script, which was an "emotional action thriller film" and a formal announcement was made during September 2014.
After post-production works and a formal launch ceremony in June 2015, the film began production in Chennai during early July. The film was halted twice due to the Film Employees Federation of South India's strike and the heavy flooding in Chennai. In addition, poor climatic conditions in China meant that the team had to abandon their idea of filming sequences there and instead opted to shoot in Bangkok. Despite the difficulties, the film was completed within January 2016.
Theri was released on 14 April 2016 and received positive reviews from critics and audience. The film grossed ₹150 crore (US$19 million) against a budget of ₹75 crore (US$9.4 million) and emerged as the second highest grossing Tamil and South Indian film of 2016.
It further won three SIIMA Awards, three IIFA Utsavam awards, two Ananda Vikatan Cinema Awards and nine nominations at the 64th Filmfare Awards South. The film was adapted into Assamese as Ratnakar (2019). It is currently considered as one among the most-popular films in Vijay's career, due to the commercial elements in the film and its multiple re-runs in television channels had attributed to more popularity.

The Raid (2011)
My rating: 6/10
this movie has some excellently choreographed violence, but little else - the characters are bland, the plot - what little there is - is bland, and it's all shot in that greyish-blue shaky-cam style that is so incredibly overused in action movies.
