“Maybe you have judged the choices of people you know: the neighbor who screams so loudly at his spouse that the harsh words carry through their thin apartment walls. The colleague who opts out of caring for aging par-ents. The client who becomes overly dependent on a therapist.
Even with the realization that these acquaintances have pressures of their own—an impending divorce, depression, a complicated family—your judgments still materialize with the surety and swiftness of a reflex.
These reactions might be immediate, but they are rarely simple or precise.” -Greer Hendricks

Mystery/Thriller Monday
Tumblr media
Zoe and Hailey are two American ex-pats in Berlin (in the early 2000s), both are also art students. They wind up finding an apartment that’s owned and being subleted by a thriller writer, Beatrice Becks.
It starts out all good. They get into the Berlin club scene in all its gratuitous glory. Except, not all is totally good, as they start to feel like they’re being watched. What does Hailey (the more outgoing, ‘main character’ of the two) decide to do? Put on a show for Beatrice (if she is really spying on them). That, well, that goes as one would expect as well.
The story was twisty, and it was most definitely a slow, slow burn. But, it wasn’t listless, there was a point to the things on the page, and, it also sped up in the second half for sure. It was dark, and thrilling, and just in general a definite page turner.
You may like this book If you Liked: Wahala by Nikki May, This Might Hurt by Stephanie Wrobel, or An Anonymous Girl by Greer Hendricks
