What their Amortentia would smell like: Weasley Edition
All you did was something so harmless. You entered the WWW shop, and explored. Found yourself by the love potions, uncorked it for shits and giggles, and the smell sends you down a rabbit hole
Writing Commissions Open
William ‘Bill’
The beach. You smell the beach. The warm sand, the cool salt air, and the distant wind of beach flowers. It’s so warm, and inviting. The more you inhale, you smell something else. Marble. You smell cold stone, as if you were in Gringotts. A cooling scent to keep you grounded. A giggle leaves you, as you knew you smelled wet dog in there. You were going to keep that last detail to yourself. But, it did solidify something. He did smell like wet dog after his showers. You damn well knew it. Your Billy Boy.
Charlie
A smack to the face it was. This intense campfire. Very specifically a camp fire. Not a wood stove, not a fire place. It was a campfire. With those blends of nature, and burning of dried leaves. The smell of a campfire in the dead of night. When your eyes stopped watering from the smoke stench, you could smell something else. It’s almost like berries. Wild berries. A sweet, almost tart, against all that fire. Along with leather. Oh the leather clings to your throat. It stays with you, and hangs. That’s your Charlie alright.
Percy
Parchment. Parchment, and books. A rather bland scent. You swore you could even smell a freshly corked ink bottle as well. Amongst the paper, you smelled something else. Earth. You smelled earth. Specifically earth that had been freshly rained on. It’s such a soothing scent. Despite its blandness, it was comforting. It’s very familiar, and soothing. Just because it was simple, did not mean it was boring. It was his scent after all. It’s a simplistic, homey, scent. Simple, but never boring. Oh Percy. Your sweet little Percy.
Fred
Grape. That surprised you. Yes there was the expected. There was the scent of fire, gun powder, everything that defined a fire work. Yet, grape was a surprise. Grape, and tea. Specifically grape tea. There was also this distant taste of night air on the back of your tongue. As if you were enjoying a cup of cold grape tea, during a rainy night time sit on the porch. It was an almost mature scent. Fred? Mature? You were speechless. Yet, you couldn’t deny it. It’s him. It’s him to the smallest accent. Your Freddie.
George
Oranges. Oranges, and freshly made pastries. Yes, there was that familiar fire work scent, but you also smelled oranges. As if someone made orange cupcakes, and served it with an overly sugary coffee. It very much was a scent of someone waking up early in the morning. Fixing a cup of sugary coffee, with some freshly peeled oranges, while enjoying a freshly baked cookie. It’s so warm, and cozy. As if entering a kitchen, after the Fourth of July party. It’s so homey. Yep, that’s your Georgie.
Ron
Very fresh, funny enough. Like cut grass, and fresh laundry. It’s just a very homey scent. Like you were home sick, and you finally got to walk in through the front door again. It’s such a soft embrace. Like being hugged, after a rough day. You swear you even smell wool. Like of an old sweater, that’s been loved to death. Very musky, but in a good way. Like someone’s been working hard on a garden all day, and came inside to cool off. It’s such a warm scent. It makes you smile, and feel almost refreshed in a way. It was just right. It was home. Ron was your home, and he can make your day turn out for the better. Even if it’s just a few words. Your Ronnie.
Ginny
Wind. That’s the first thing that comes to mind. Just that scent of a windy day, where nature is carried through. The soft scents of floral undertones, mixed with fresh grass. There is also the scent of wood. Specifically freshly cut wood. Like someone had been whittling away, and was working hard on a project. Such earthy undertones, amongst the familiar scent of her favorite perfume. She wasn’t much of a girly girl, but that didn’t mean she hated femininity as a whole. Besides, her brother got it for her. That’s when you smiled. This was a scent of a little sister, that was loved so much, and strong in her independence. Oh that Gin Gin.

Amortentia Pt. 1 | F.W

———
Pairing: Fred Weasley x reader
Summary: you, ever so studious and diligent, despised fred weasley, the total opposite of you. it came as a surprise to you when you smelt a certain someone when brewing amortentia. one day you get stuck in a closet with him, and let’s just say the situation between you changes.
Warnings: enemies to lovers, hatred, stuck in a closet together/forced proximity, arguing, they both kinda mean to each other :,) but it's fluffy in the end <33
———
The soft bubbling of cauldrons filled the air as Professor Slughorn’s Potions class was in full swing. Rows of students leaned over their workstations, the tantalising scent of all kinds of potions wafting through the room.
You sat beside Hermione, your quill neatly poised as you jotted down notes with meticulous precision. For you, this was yet another opportunity to immerse yourself in academics—away from the chaos that Fred Weasley embodied.
Fred Weasley. Even thinking about his name annoyed you. You’d never quite forgiven him for the humiliating prank he pulled during your first year.
While everyone else seemed to adore his roguish charm and knack for mischief, you’d spent years despising his carefree antics. He’d humiliated you once, and you’d vowed never to forget it.
“Alright, everyone,” Slughorn announced cheerily, “now that we’ve reviewed the properties of Amortentia, it’s time for you to brew your own. Once complete, you’ll take a small sniff and note the scents that are most attractive to you. It’s an enlightening experience!”
You rolled your eyes slightly at the giddy murmurs around you, ignoring Hermione’s excited grin. Amortentia, the most powerful love potion, seemed frivolous—another reminder of the chaos you avoided.
Your potion bubbled softly as you stirred counterclockwise, adding crushed rose thorns with precision. When the pearlescent liquid shimmered, you leaned forward hesitantly to catch the aroma.
The scents hit you in waves: the faint crackle of fireworks, a warm woody note with a hint of leather, and the fresh, crisp smell of green grass.
Your heart sank. No. Absolutely not. The combination was unmistakable, and yet, it had to be a mistake. You straightened, shaking your head as if to dispel the thought.
You stirred the potion harder, hoping it would make a difference in the results, then you leaned in to smell it once more.
“Smells like fireworks again…” You muttered to yourself, yet again the scent was the same.
“Fireworks?” Hermione teased beside you, nudging your arm. “You thinking about the Gryffindor common room celebrations?”
You forced a laugh, shrugging. “Something like that.”
Before Hermione could press further, an eruption of noise echoed from the corridor. The Gryffindor Quidditch team was passing by, loud and victorious.
“Oh, for heaven’s sake,” Professor Slughorn muttered, waddling to the door to scold them. Despite his protest, half the class, Hermione included, crowded to the doorway, cheering for the team.
Curiosity got the better of you, and you wandered over, standing at the edge of the group. Outside, Fred and George were carrying Oliver Wood on their shoulders, leading a parade of triumphant Gryffindors. "Alright! Let's go Gryffindor, let's go!" George chanted, while Oliver cheered.
Your gaze inadvertently locked onto Fred’s. His grin faltered for a moment as your eyes met, a fleeting connection that sent a jolt through your chest. You quickly looked away, scoffing under your breath. Typical.
Parading around the school bringing about chaos as usual. You shook your head, walking back to your desk while the other stayed by the door.
———
Later that day, Professor Slughorn called for volunteers to help restock potions in class. The work seemed simple enough, and it was a quiet excuse to get away from the day’s chaos, so you raised your hand.
Inside the dimly lit stockroom, shelves lined with bottles and jars stretched to the ceiling. You moved carefully, checking labels and sorting ingredients.
The door creaked open behind you. “Weasley,” you muttered, already recognising the figure who slipped inside.
Fred froze, caught red-handed with a jar of powdered bicorn horn. “Uh… hi.”
Your eyes narrowed dangerously. “You’re not supposed to be here, Fred.”
“I just need a few things,” he admitted, holding up the jar as if that explained everything. “For a… project.”
Before you could respond, the door slammed shut behind him, the lock clicking into place.
“What did you do?” you hissed, marching to the door and tugging at the handle. It didn’t budge.
Fred raised his hands defensively. “I didn’t do anything! It’s some sort of enchantment. Must be Slughorn’s way of keeping people out unless they’re supposed to be here.”
“Brilliant,” you snapped, glaring at him. “Now we’re stuck.”
You exhaled, eyes darting at the jar in his hand.
“A project?” You folded your arms, leveling him with a glare. “You mean another one of your ridiculous pranks? Of course. What else would you be doing here besides wasting everyone’s time?”
Fred smirked, leaning against a nearby shelf like he had all the time in the world. “Wasting time? Nah, I leave that to the overachievers who think perfect grades make them better than everyone else.”
You set the vial in your hand down with an audible clink, your jaw tightening. “At least I have something to show for my time here. All you ever do is run around creating chaos and acting like it’s charming.”
His grin twisted into something more mocking. “And all you ever do is stick your nose in books and act like you’re too good for the rest of us. Heaven forbid you smile or—Merlin’s beard—have fun.”
“I do have fun,” you snapped, turning toward the shelf to avoid his smug expression. “I just don’t make it my life’s purpose to be a walking distraction to everyone else!”
Fred let out a bark of laughter, loud and infuriating in the confined space. “Yeah, I can see that. You’re the type who thinks a perfect potion or an extra essay makes you more important. But guess what, sweetheart? You’re not.”
You spun on your heel, your cheeks burning. “Don’t call me that,” you bit out. “And for the record, at least people don’t think I’m an annoying menace.”
“Annoying menace?” He straightened, his mockery sharpening into something more pointed. “At least people notice me. You’re just another face in the crowd, too scared to do anything that might make you stand out.”
The words stung more than you wanted to admit, but you pushed past the hurt. “Standing out isn’t the same as being reckless and immature. Maybe if you took something seriously for once, you wouldn’t be sneaking around stealing potion ingredients!”
“Maybe if you loosened up for once, you wouldn’t be so uptight,” Fred shot back, stepping closer.
His voice dropped lower, but it was no less biting. “You walk around like you’ve got something to prove, like you’re better than the rest of us because you follow every rule and never make a mistake.”
“At least I don’t make mistakes on purpose just to get a laugh,” you fired, your voice rising in frustration.
Fred scoffed, his hands flying up in exasperation. “Merlin, you’re impossible! Why do you hate me so much anyway?!"
The both of you were only a few inches apart, closer than before. He towered over you, though slightly intimidating, you brushed it off and exhaled.
"You know damn well why." You glared at him.
"You hate me for what? A prank? From years ago? You’ve been holding onto that like it’s some kind of life-defining tragedy.”
“It was humiliating!” you burst out, your voice shaking with anger. “You embarrassed me in front of everyone, and you didn’t even care. You’ve never cared about anyone but yourself!”
Fred’s smirk vanished. He stepped forward, closing the space between you in the tiny room. “You think I don’t care?” His voice was quieter now, but no less intense. “You don’t know a damn thing about me.”
The room fell into a tense silence, the tension heavy. For a moment, neither of you spoke, your ragged breaths the only sound.
“What do you want me to say?” Fred finally asked, his tone softer now but still edged with frustration. “That I’m sorry? Fine. I’m sorry. The prank wasn’t even meant for you—it was for Ron. You just… walked in at the wrong time. I didn’t mean for you to get caught in it.”
His words hung in the air, and something in his expression shifted. The teasing, the mockery—it was gone, replaced by something quieter.
“I felt bad, alright?” he admitted. “But you already hated me, and I didn’t know how to fix it. So, I didn’t. I figured it’d be easier if I kept my distance.”
Your shoulders sagged slightly, the tension in your chest unraveling bit by bit. “You could’ve just told me,” you muttered, your voice barely audible.
Fred ran a hand through his hair, sighing. “Yeah, well, hindsight’s a wonderful thing, isn’t it?”
The fight drained out of you, and for the first time, you noticed how tired he looked—not just physically, but emotionally. It threw you off balance, this glimpse of vulnerability in someone you’d pegged as nothing but trouble.
“I didn’t realize…” you started, but the words trailed off.
Fred looked at you, his gaze steady. “Maybe you should stop assuming the worst about people,” he said, his tone no longer mocking. “Might surprise you.”
The tension in your shoulders eased slightly, though your heart still raced. “You could’ve just apologised,” you muttered.
Fred chuckled softly, the sound low and warm. “Yeah, well, I’m not always great at that sort of thing.”
He continued, "You know I'd never want to hurt you, let alone prank you. We only do it to those who deserve it."
Your expression softened, feeling the wall you built toward him crumble slightly, "Being a little more careful wouldn't hurt."
He nodded lightly, a small smile playing on his lips, "I'll keep that in mind."
The stockroom felt smaller now, the space between you almost nonexistent. Fred shifted closer, his movements hesitant, as if testing the boundaries.
His gaze flickered to yours, scanning your face slowly. Taking in all the features he hadn't noticed before.
You caught a whiff of his scent—woodsy, warm, and unmistakably familiar. Your breath hitched, memories of the Amortentia flooding back. Shaking your head, you turned away, refusing to acknowledge it.
The door burst open without a warning, and you both stepped apart as Professor Slughorn entered, beaming. “Ah! There you are Y/N! Was wondering where you’d gone off to.”
His gaze landed on Fred, his brow raising. “And you, Mr. Weasley? Sneaking around again?”
You cut in quickly. “He was helping me, Professor. I asked him to grab some supplies from the upper shelves.”
Slughorn nodded, satisfied. “Good teamwork, then! Carry on.”
When the professor left, Fred gave you a curious look. “Didn’t think you’d cover for me.”
You smirked slightly, grabbing another vial. “Consider it a truce. For now.”
Fred grinned, stepping forward to help you with the rest of the potions.
As you worked side by side, the animosity between you melted, replaced by something lighter, and dare you say, sweet. For the first time, you wondered if Fred Weasley wasn’t as insufferable as you’d thought.
———
Fred held the classroom door open with a dramatic bow, his teasing grin firmly in place. “After you, Your Majesty,” he said, gesturing for you to enter as if he were presenting you with the royal throne.
“Don’t push your luck, Weasley,” you replied, stepping through with a roll of your eyes, the stack of potion boxes steady in your arms.
Fred followed close behind, his voice laced with amusement. “You know, a simple ‘thank you’ would suffice. Or is that against the rules of your ‘perfect student’ code of conduct?”
You shot him a withering glare over your shoulder. “It’s against my ‘don’t reward annoying behavior’ policy.” you remark, feeling the weight of his gaze as he followed you into the classroom.
Fred chuckled softly, grabbing a few boxes himself, helping you place them neatly on Slughorn’s desk.
“Ah, splendid work!” Slughorn beamed as he inspected the delivery. “Thank you both, my star volunteers!”
You gave a polite nod, avoiding Fred’s amused smirk. The two of you turned to leave, walking side by side down the dimly lit hallway.
As you both walked down the dim corridor, the silence between you felt heavier than before, like an unspoken thought hanging in the air. Fred was the one to break it, his voice softer now.
“I wasn’t kidding earlier. I still feel bad about that prank,” he said, hands shoved deep into his pockets.
You glanced at him, surprised by the sudden sincerity in his tone. “You’ve mentioned that.”
“Yeah, but I mean it,” he continued, stopping in his tracks and turning to face you. “I really want to make it up to you.”
You crossed your arms. “Fred, we’re not exactly friends. Why would you go out of your way to—”
Fred hesitated, scratching the back of his neck. “I guess… I don’t like the idea of you hating me. I mean, I’m a pretty likable guy, aren’t I?”
You let out a scoff, though your lips betrayed you with the faintest hint of a smile. “You’re insufferable.”
“Exactly,” he quipped, the grin creeping back onto his face. “So, let me make it up to you. How about dinner? My treat.”
You blinked at him, caught off guard. “Dinner?”
He nodded, his grin widening as if this were the most logical suggestion in the world. “Yeah. At that little restaurant in Hogsmeade. Consider it an apology dinner.”
“Fred, there’s no way I’m—”
“Oh, come on,” he interrupted, stepping closer. “It’s not like I’m asking you to marry me. Just dinner. A meal. Food. Surely even someone as serious as you has to eat?”
You glared at him, but the faint flutter in your chest returned, stronger this time. “This is ridiculous.”
“Ridiculously generous of me, I know,” he teased, holding his hands out as if waiting for applause. “But seriously, let me make it up to you. Just one dinner. I promise I won’t even prank you during it.”
Despite yourself, you let out a reluctant laugh. “Fine. One dinner. But don’t think this means I’ve forgiven you.”
Fred’s grin turned triumphant. “Wouldn’t dream of it.”
As the two of you continued walking, his mood seemed to grow lighter, and the banter came naturally. You hated to admit it, but there was something… charming about his energy.
It was in the middle of laughing at one of his outrageous stories about George that you heard a familiar voice.
“Wait—is that Fred?” Ron’s voice cut through the hallway.
You both turned to see Ron and Hermione standing by the stairwell, their faces a mix of confusion and intrigue. Hermione’s eyes widened, and then a slow, knowing smirk crept onto her face.
“Knew it,” she said, nudging Ron with her elbow.
“Knew what?” Ron asked, staring between the two of you like he’d stumbled upon a particularly confusing riddle.
“That they’d get along eventually,” Hermione replied, her voice laced with smug satisfaction.
Your cheeks burned as you opened your mouth to protest, "We're not—"
“Not what?” he teased, leaning closer with a mockingly sweet smile. “Getting along? Surely not.”
You glared at him, the heat in your face intensifying. “Fred, shut up.”
Hermione’s smirk only deepened, and she tugged Ron away, muttering something under her breath that you didn’t quite catch.
Fred watched them go, a grin still firmly plastered on his face. “See? Even they approve.”
You groaned, quickening your pace to put some distance between you. “You’re impossible.”
“And yet, here we are,” he said, easily keeping stride beside you. “Dinner’s going to be fun. You might even like me by the end of it.”
You rolled your eyes, but as you caught the mischievous sparkle in his gaze, you couldn’t suppress the small smile tugging at the corners of your lips.
Maybe—just maybe—Fred Weasley wasn’t as insufferable as you’d thought.
———

"This is going to be so funny!" Theodore Nott giggles uncontrollably as he pops the cork of a pink vital and pours some into a glass. "Shit, i can't wait until he comes back!" Lorenzo laughs. "Me too." Blaise agrees as Draco nods.
The Slytherin boys were pranking Mattheo. They planned a "hangout" in the common room. They all waited for a whole hour for Mattheo to get up to use the bathroom or to go to his dorm to go fetch something. Then, after what felt like forever, Mattheo excused himself to go to the bathroom. Then, once Mattheo was out of sight, Theodore took a deep breath to control his giggle fit, he took the pink vital out of his pocket, he also took out a strand of your hair that he secretly took from your hairbrush one night while visiting. He poured half the vital into the glass, and then he added the hair. Then mattheo returned. The boys trying to hold in their laughs. After a while, Mattheo took a sip of his drink. The boys are all staring at this point.
"You feeling alright?" Blaise asks. "Uh, I'm feeling fine. Maybe a little warm, but I'm fine." He says, turning red as if he had just realized something. "Do you want to..confess..anything..?" Blaise asks, trying to hold in his laugh. "Yeah..I think..I think I'm in love with Y/n." The boys eyes widen. "Why don't you go to Y/n? I bet she'll love to see you." Mattheo smirks at this. "I should do that.." Mattheo stands up, almost tumbling over a chair. He picks up the cup and takes a long sip. Theo sighs as he takes the cup away from him as he pushes Mattheo gently towards the girls' dormitory.
Mattheo walks up the stairs, his heart racing. When he wasn't under the influence of the potion, he did have feelings for y/n, very strong feelings. But he would never ever dare to confess due to him thinking she would deny and reject his feelings. He didn't want to ruin his friendship with her.
-
I sit on my desk, trying to focus on my homework, an essay for Snape that was due tomorrow. I groan as I hear a knock on the door, I stand up and walk up to it.
I grasp the knob and I see..Mattheo Riddle.
"Um, hi Mattheo? Weren't you hanging out wi-?" Then I get interrupted with Mattheo literally jumping on me, kissing my cheek. "Mattheo!?" I question, pushing him off. I feel my cheeks turn red. "Oh, uhhh, sorry!" He mumbles, looking down at the carpet. "What's up with you!?" I question crossing my arms. "Uh, i came here to confess something." He fidgets with his hands. "Uh, sure." I say, sitting on my bed, motioning him to sit next to me. He does. "So. I'm like in love with you." He says, looking at me. "You.. you do?" I reply. I feel myself blushing again. "Yeah..." He says. "Can I kiss you y/n...please."
My lips part open as I nod. I've always fantasized about him kissing me and other things. Before i have time to react, he slams his lips onto me. Roughly, he grabs my wrists and pins me onto my bed. As I gasp, I can practically feel his smirk on my lips as he runs his free hand through my hair. "Wow." I whisper. He chuckles as he uses his free hand to trace my body, as if it were a piece of art. "You're so beautiful." He says, our foreheads touching, his puppy dog eyes looking up at me. "Thank you." I say in a hushed voice. He nuzzles his face into my neck, kissing it, probably leaving a bunch of hickeys. "Wait, Mattheo, before we do anything else, I'm confused." I say, holding his shoulder. "Confused about what, love?" He asks, laying down close to me. "I dunno, you're just acting werid, like randomly confessing to me.." He doesn't say anything. "Mattheo, have you drinken anything..recently?" I ask. "Well, I took a sip of my drink before I came here."
My eyebrows raise. "What happened once you drank that? Did it taste werid?"
"It tasted sweeter than I remember, then I felt like really warm and fuzzy, and I couldn't stop thinking about you." He smiles, playing with my hair. I then realize what's happening. He's been put under a love potion. I'm guessing his friends slipt it into his drink when he wasn't looking. Luckily, I have the antidote from a previous incident. Once, Pansy got dared to drink a love potion. So I still have some antidote left.
"Mattheo, I'll be back. i need to get something from my bathroom." I say, getting up, but he holds onto me. "Don't leave me, Y/n!" He Frowns. I sigh. It's just realized how lovesick this poor guy is. "Fine, come with me then." I say, the bathroom is literally 10 feet away from my bed. "Okay!" He says, getting up, our hands intertwined.
I walk towards my bathroom, tracing my finger along the drawers until I find the drawer with the antidote. "Mattheo, do you trust me?" I ask. He nods. "Of course i do, love!" I giggle to myself. "Okay, sit on my sink, please." I smile as he sits on my sink. I hold the vital in front of him. I pop the cork. I pour the rest of the antidote down his throat. He groans in pain. "Y/n..i have a headache." He mutters as he holds my hand. "I know, but it'll go away soon." I comfort him.
Then, in a blink, he groans in pain again, "Y/n?" He asks, confused. "Oh, uh Mattheo." I mutter. "What am I doing here?!" He ask, his voice deeper. "Uh, about that." I pause. "Your friends kinda..gave you Amortentia.." I say. He looks to the side as he jumps off my sink. He heads straight to the door. "Mattheo - wait!" I shout, grabbing his hand. He groans. "Did I do anything embarrassing?" He asks, not looking back at me. "Uh, well, you may or may not have jumped onto me and kissed me." I giggle slightly. His face drops. "I didn't mean it - it was that stupid potion." He admits. "I know.."
"Look, I'm going to kill those idiots!" He yells, practically running to the door. I grab his hand again and spin him around, I kiss him. I don't know why I'm doing this, but I am. His eyes are open, but then they close, and he cups my face. "Mattheo-" I whisper. "Never mind, I'll kill them after." He smiles.

Amortentia (Jegulus)
Regulus didn’t smell. It drove James insane sometimes.
He didn’t smell after quidditch practice, or even after just waking up. It was another one of those things about him that made him seem “perfect”. James hated it.
Regulus was so much more than the image he presented himself to be, but he’d gotten too lost in playing the part, maybe that’s all he’d become.
Every single “imperfection” had been driven away by his mother. Not just for Regulus, but for Sirius as well. The Black family had an image to maintain, high society they had to live in. They couldn’t accept body odor, crooked teeth, or any blemishes on their skin.
James didn’t know how they did it. But none of the Blacks had any negative body odor. No matter how much they sweat.
It’s not to say they don’t have a particular smell. According to Slughorn, everyone had a distinct smell, something unique about them.
Sirius smelled like wet dog fur, James knew this because he slept in the bed next to him and every night Sirius turned to padfoot in his sleep.
Narcissa smelled like spring, like her namesake— narcissus. Strangely intense, yet cool and floral. James had only placed the smell last year when they had grown the flower in herbology.
Walburga black smelled like roses, James imagined that’s what the queen of hearts from Alice in Wonderland smelled like. It was suffocating if you had the displeasure to be near her, like a thousand thorny plants squeezing your windpipe.
James wasn’t padfoot, he didn’t memorize smells. But it’s hard not to notice how his closest friends smell. It made him feel warm, to be surrounded by so many people he loves, all with a distinct smell.
Remus smelled like chocolate, like wet fur, wooly sweaters, a warm fire and old books. James could tell that’s what Sirius was smelling in his cauldron right then. That’s the reason he was thinking so much about smells in the first place.
Sixth year brought with it responsibilities, but also more advanced potion making. James always wondered why he didn’t drop potions when he had the chance.
Sirius was blushing so hard, his skin tone matched the pink potion. James had to stifle his own laughter as Remus tried to go over the recipe once again to make sure they had made it correct. They were all paired up for this particular class. Sirius and Remus at one cauldron and James and Peter next to them. It used to be Sirius and James together, but after one too many pranks in the classroom, Professor Slughorn had separated them.
“Clockwise!” Remus corrected Sirius just before he could have ruined their potion. They were the second ones to finish their potion so Slughorn was already making his way towards the boys. “Bloody hell, Sirius. Stop overmixing it”
James exchanged a look with Peter. Why had he let Sirius pick Remus while pairing up again? Oh that’s right— Wingman duties
James was nowhere near as great as Lily or Remus or even Snivellus in potion making, but he managed. Mostly he used Remus’ notes and applied common sense. It drove Remus insane sometimes, how much work he’d have to put in to memorize something, only for James to make an educated guess about it. James couldn’t really explain how he knew stuff, he just did. Call it pattern awareness, or whatever.
“So from the way Moony was yelling at Padfoot, I’m guessing we have to stir it clockwise?” James raised an eyebrow.
Peter only snickered as he watched their other two friends bickering like an old married couple. “What’d you think Moony smells, James?”
“Wet dog” James replied easily, “And that awful old leather jacket Padfoot refuses to throw away,”
“I bet Sirius smells chocolate and wool”
James had known Peter for years, they'd had baths together when they were babies, learned how to ride a bicycle from James’ father, spent ten christmases trying to make gingerbread houses and so many more memories.
That’s all to say, James knew what Peter smelled like. He had a distinct cologne he swore worked wonders on the ladies, and as stereotypical as it was for the rat to love cheese, he really did.
So if James was in love with his best mate, that’s what he would have smelled.
But instead when he dared to take a whiff of the potion (after coughing violently because it was pretty strong), all he smelled was broom wax, old books and paint.
“Mmmhmm” Peter grinned, “Camembert, and candy. Smells so great I’m hungry now. And you?”
“Old books” He frowned, “And paint”
“Careful, Pads might think you’re in love with Moony too”
James wasn’t sure what he was expecting. He was glad he didn’t smell lilies, relating to his old embarrassing crush. It had been months since he had obsessed over Lily Evans and even thinking about that time made him cringe.
James had quickly realized he had no idea what love was supposed to be. He grew up watching his parents so immensely in love he’d been in love with the idea of love and the idea of Lily Evans. And ideas are dangerous things to be in love with.
For his sake and Lily’s, he was glad he stopped liking her.
But after Lily… well, there had been someone James had grown a liking too. And he couldn’t help the disappointment when he didn’t smell Regulus in the potion. He took a few more whiffs, just to be sure. But to no avail. The potion still smelled the same.
James wasn’t sure why it bothered him so much. Maybe he was just incapable of loving. Because he couldn’t smell Regulus, that had to mean he wasn’t in love with the boy as he had previously thought. This was clearly a Lily situation again. And that bothered James. Mainly because he wanted to be in love. Not just because of his fantasy of being so in love with someone, but also because Regulus was so lovely.
He was witty and sharp, beautiful and sarcastic, knowledgeable and petty, headstrong and stubborn but also sweet and funny. He seemed to positively glow under James’ praise. James loved it when he flushed pink, James loved it when he shot back a retort, when he smiled a secret smile for only James, when he dragged his long fingers over James’ skin— touch for the sake of touch. James loved every single thing about Regulus, the way his eyes crinkled when he tried to stop himself from laughing at one of James’ bad jokes, the way he sneezed, the way his lips parted, the way he tasted so sweet when they kissed, but most of all, James thought he was in love with Regulus.
He wasn’t sure what smell he was searching for. He knew Regulus didn’t smell. He didn’t have a signature smell like Peter’s cologne. But James was still disappointed.
He wanted to make Regulus feel loved, he wanted to be in love. He had said it once and Regulus had said it before.
Three simple words.
And what if they were a lie?
A knock on the door made Slughorn change directions. He had been heading toward James and Peter’s potion to check it, but he walked toward the open door.
James would have recognised those curls anywhere.
Even before Regulus was fully visible, stepping into the doorway, eyes searching the class, James was grinning. Who cared what the stupid potion said? The potion could be wrong. Maybe James and Peter brewed it wrong.
All that mattered was that Regulus lit up James’ world, it genuinely felt that way. Just passing him in the hallways, getting to stare at him as he stared at the stars, just listening to him talk about astronomy or his favorite paintings felt like a reward to James.
So yeah, fuck the potion.
James Potter was in love with Regulus Black.
That’s when he spotted the paint splattered on the edges of his otherwise neat robe. He was handing a book he must have borrowed back to Slughorn. His eyes landed on James and though he tried to keep his composure in thanking the professor, James grew ecstatic at the acknowledgement.
The effect Regulus had on him really had to be studied.
Just before he left, he sniffed the room, his eyebrows furrowing in that Regulus Black way as he mock glared at James. He had the face of an aristocrat but the mind of an artist. Maybe he was both.
James was thankful his table was the closest to the door and the others were too busy either bickering, fawning over their potion or still completing it.
“You smell, Potter” Regulus scrunched his nose in disgust, turning to walk away, “Didn’t you shower after quidditch? It’s disgusting, it’s a wonder the whole room isn’t gagging with how strong it is, even your sandalwood perfume can’t mask it.”
James could barely say anything before Regulus had walked away.
Paint splatter, the old books in the room of requirement and Regulus’ personal collection, the broom wax from when James had watched him polish his broom before a match against Hufflepuff.
Slowly the pieces floated together and James thought he had started floating too. He felt light, like a floating lantern, a ball of warmth in his chest.
And what had Regulus been talking about? James twisted his ankle his last game. Madam Pomfrey hadn’t cleared him to fly the whole week, he had been moping about not being able to play.
When he looked at Peter, his friend was looking back with an amused look.
“Fucking hell, Prongs”
“Don’t tell Padfoot”

amortentia
fred weasley x ravenclaw reader. this is a quite short one sorryyyy!!
"AND CAPTAIN L/N HAS THE QUAFFLE, SHE SHOOTS AND SHE GETS PAST WOOD. SHE SCORES. 10 POINTS TO RAVENCLAW." lee jordan's dejected voice was heard from his commentating box.
you smile to yourself. you were captain of the ravenclaw quidditch team and you were absolutely determined to win the quidditch cup. you knew it was probably unlikely, gryffindor had harry potter who was a magnificent seeker, but secretly you thought your seeker cho was just as good.
"SAMUELS. INGLEBEE. BE RUTHLESS. THE WEASLEYS ARE!! STOP BEING POLITE." you order your beaters, to which they rolled their eyes but listened none the less.
fred weasley, one of the gryffindor beaters and someone you'd say you had a "playful rivalry" with, heard you say this.
"i knew you loved me really l/n." he shouted, smiling and then aiming a bludger at you.
you expertly dodged it and caught the quaffle from burrow, another chaser.
"you wish weasley." you zoomed past him and chucked the quaffle into the hoop.
"L/N SCORES AGAIN, ANOTHER TEN POINTS TO RAVENCLAW." lee shouted.
"i thought your team was supposed to be good, weasley." you smirk at him.
"shut up." fred scowls at you, and you grin.
your chat was however disrupted by harry potter, the gryffindor seeker, casting a patronum spell.
you turn to see some slytherin 3 years laying on the floor, gasping. you chuckle at the sight.
what you don't laugh at, however, is harry holding up the snitch, ending the match. gryffindor had won.
"i thought your team was supposed to be good l/n." fred mocked you.
"shut up." you flew back to the rest of your team, probably to give them a speech.
you were quite in awe at the patronus charm harry had produced, so you went over to him, whilst he was, no doubt, being praised by his teammates.
"good game wood." you look at the gryffindor captain.
"good game l/n." he nods back at you.
"you're not here to attack us, are you? for winning? ravenclaw can't win all the time, you know." fred asks you.
you roll your eyes playfully.
"whatever, i'm actually here to speak to harry. your patronus spell was incredible! how did you even do that?!" you smile at him, which catches fred off guard.
"o-oh uhh t-thank you, professor lupin taught me." harry blushed, not used to the female attention.
"it was brill." you gave him another smile.
"flirting with potter won't change the result of the match, love." fred smirked at you.
"i'm not.. you know what." you shake your head and walk back to you own team, not before you immaturely stuck your tongue out at fred before you left.
"unbelievable" fred muttered, but he was smiling.
"just admit you fancy her, mate." george nudged him
"never."
over the next week, you kept your head down, keeping a low profile, like you always did when you lost a match. you had a competitive nature, so of course you were annoyed.
you weren't looking forward to potions. sure you were good at it, but snape infuriated you. and you also shared a class with the gryffindors. fred weasley would be there, your "enemy". you groaned to yourself.
as you arrived, late, may you add, resulting in 10 points off ravenclaw, you had realised snape was putting people in pairs for the potions you'd be making.
"jordan and george weasley, johnson and spinnet, l/n and-"
you waited for whoever snape was going to pair you with.
"fred weasley."
"for godrics sake." you frowned. just your rotten luck.
you moved next to him, avoiding eye contact.
"we meet again" fred smirks.
"seems like you can't get enough of me." you respond.
"i-" his words were cut off by snape.
"today, we are going to be brewing amortentia. l/n, what is amortentia?"
"the most powerful love potion in the world, it's supposed to smell differently for every wizard." you respond.
"smart-arse" fred nudges you.
you roll your eyes, but you were smiling.
"quite vague, but correct l/n. it is the most powerful love potion in existence. you are all going to be brewing it today." snape instructs, and leaves you to work.
"weasley, get the pearl dust." you say, beginning to pour the ingredients already out in the cauldron.
"on it." he salutes and winks at you.
you shake your head and continue to work. when fred comes back, you are surprised in how much you were getting on.
"thats time up." snape points to you and fred. "you two, what can you smell?"
"i smell... i smell.. i don't bloody know, y/n move away from me, all i can smell is your shampoo." he frowned at you.
"don't be ridiculous, let me have a go.." you smell your potion.
"right fred, shift, your cologne is overbearing, it's all i can smell." you sigh.
the other students laugh, realising what was happening.
"that's all i need." you could've sworn you saw a hint of a smile on snape's face.
oh. oh. you had smelt fred in your amortentia. no way. you couldn't have. this was insane. but.. it made sense.
"looks like you fancy me l/n." fred grins, but you could see him blushing slightly.
"i think you're the one that fancies me." you respond, with a small smile.
he shakes his head.
"you caught me... look do you want to go to hogsmeade on saturday? i promise i won't tease you about us beating you."
and to your surprise, you found yourself saying yes.

Fem!reader x Mattheo, who had given her the Amortentia potion, can be smut or something like one of the teachers/students realise somethings up
LOVE'S WORST ENEMY | M.R X READER
word count \ 3.8k | not so fluff | slash / mattheo riddle / fem!reader
in which mattheo uses amortentia to get his girl
minor cw & tw: use of amortentia (which is considered drugging) & manipulation
You had never liked Mattheo before.
That wasn’t to say you disliked him, or that you hated him. Rather, you just never truly knew him well enough to like him.
Mattheo was Slytherin’s signature rugged bad boy. A prankster that walked the line of ‘too much’ like it was an already snorted line of cocaine and he wanted more. He had friends that were high up as well. Pureblood aristocrats who had millions in their family wealth. His reputation had been built for him by the time his name had been called for the Sorting Hat, and he seemed to love playing into what everyone thought was true.
And you?
You weren’t known at all. Or at least, you weren’t known like that. Just a regular student who tried to live a regular life. A little better than average grades, and a couple of close friends, though not much more than that. The most you were known as was Hermione Granger’s quiet friend, though barely anyone knew you two even talked in the first place.
Which led you confused as to why Mattheo had decided you were his. You weren’t even sure how it started. You supposed it was the tutoring.
Mattheo could feel his heartbeat against the paper he was holding.
It was beating so hard he could feel every palpitation inside his veins. He had never felt this way before, had he? Nervous was not a word that was in his dictionary. He had the impulse control of a raccoon with rabies, he hated the concept of nervousness like a rabid dog feared water.
Which is why he hated that you made him this way.
You, a regular student. Granger’s quiet friend, maybe a bit of a high achiever. A tutor in Charms, Transfiguration and now Potions.
Just regular. Normal.
So why was he so attracted to you? He didn’t know.
And he hated it. Hated that he had no control of the situation, Hated that you probably only knew him from his reputation. He could treat you so well, he knew that. Any date that you wanted, any gift that you were promised as a child and never got. Absolutely anything.
But you didn’t know that. And he hated not having power over that.
So, instead of slowly making you fall in love with him all while knowing you might never truly love him, like a regular person would, he decided to go through a faster route. Amortentia.
Which led to him failing his recent Potions exams about Amortentia.
It was a simple plan. Fail anything relating to love potions until Slughorn hunted him down. Stare at him with those eyes that seemed to scare the professor into allowing anything that Mattheo wanted, and then ask to be tutored by you. After that, he’d say yes. Mattheo knew he would say yes.
And he knew that he’d get you alone after that.
“Excuse me,” Mattheo whispered, a small slip of paper laid in his hands as he stood next to your desk in the library. You had notes scattered around, some almost falling off the desk. “Are you Y/N?”
You looked up at him with those beautiful eyes of yours, completely innocent and unknowing of the entire world. It was absolutely adorable to say the least. “Yes?”
“Good.” he said, holding up the small slip of paper. “Slughorn paired us up together? Tutoring?”
You looked at the slip in his hand confusedly. You had indeed offered to start tutoring for Slughorn, but you hadn’t been told that you were meant to be tutoring someone just yet. Though, Slughorn was paying you, so you weren’t complaining too much.
“What did you need help with?” you asked him curiously, taking the slip with those smooth hands of his. They looked so small, so delicate. He couldn’t wait to feel them melting against his chest.
Mattheo shrugged simply. “Amortentia, I think.”
You nodded and chuckled at that, closing your book and sitting up a bit straighter. “It is a hard potion, especially the time it takes. Do you have everything you need for it?”
He smiled a bit sheepishly and rubbed the back of his neck. “Don’t know what I need.”
You looked at him before shaking your head. “That’s probably why you need tutoring.” you chuckled, pulling up a list from your pile of notes spread across the desk. “I have a list here, you can ask Slughorn for the materials. He should still be in his office right now, he only goes to his room after sundown.” you muttered, handing the list to him. “Come back after, okay?”
“Thank you.” he nodded and smiled quietly, looking down at the list before walking off. Mattheo could feel your eyes on him. He wasn’t sure what you thought about him.
Maybe you thought that he was quiet, or weird. Or maybe you already knew of his reputation. Would that be a bad thing? He wasn’t so sure. He knew that his soft tone and his smiles would make you question what you knew already. And he knew that you were going to be more forgiving then most people would.
And that’s exactly what he needed.
He sighed as he looked down at the list, a small smirk growing on his lips as he saw the ingredients he had months memorizing.
1 piece Bdellium 5 Flutterby Bush Flowers 1 sprigs Knotgrass 3 Lacewing Flies 1 drop Lethe River Water 6 Mistletoe Berries 1 measure Pearl Dust 1 measure Powdered Asphodel Root 2 measures Powdered Unicorn Horn 4 drops Rose Oil 6 Rose Petals 1 cup Standard Potioning Water
Mistletoe berries were easy to grab. Pearl dust could be modified to be more potent. Mattheo was sure that Theodore had a rose that was raised more potent than three, and the Unicorn Horn was easily acquirable as well. He was sure that he could modify the ingredients to make it more potent, to make it longer or stronger whenever someone took it.
When he would make you take it.
He chuckled under his breath and pocketed the list of ingredients, already knowing exactly what he was getting himself into. His heart was racing in his fingertips, though this time it was full of anticipation.
“I have a gift for you.” he muttered quietly.
You looked up as Mattheo approached you with a small box of chocolates, a small smile growing on your face as you saw him. Mattheo and you had been hanging out more often ever since he started being your makeshift Potions student.
He was a good guy. You didn’t care what everyone else said about him, because you knew him better than they did. Sure, he was rambunctious, but what teenager wasn’t? He was kind to you, and he listened much more than anyone else ever had. His friends were nice too, albeit a bit harsher compared to him. Reckless womanizers that threw money on alcohol and impulse spendings that made no sense to you. You knew it didn’t care that it didn’t make that much sense to you though.
“You got a gift?” you asked him with a small smile.
“Mhm.” he smiled at you, handing you the gift. “Chocolate.”
You gasped quietly as you took in the box as a whole. It was a heart shape, a box that had been painted pastel pink with lace glued on the edges. The chocolate seemed homemade, not quite from the beginning but enough to seem homemade to you. There was a small note on the back of the cover, which stated that they were made with a caramel filling in the middle. “Wow.”
Mattheo chuckled quietly, looking at you with a small smile and a look in your eyes you couldn’t quite place. “Do you like it?” he asked quietly.
“I love it!” you said excitedly, eating one of the chocolates almost instantly. “Oh my, that’s delicious.”
Mattheo sat down next to you with a small smirk planted on his face, watching you eat the chocolates one after another. You didn’t seem to care much about anything else other than the chocolate in the moment, though you also knew that was nothing more than a moment-level fixation.
He had made them himself, after all.
You had helped him brew Amortentia, finishing your group potion just last week. What you didn’t know was that he had memorized every single step and made his own in the dungeons after he left the library every night. What you didn’t know was that he had inserted it into the chocolate.
“Does it taste good?” he asked you curiously.
You nodded your head and giggled quietly. “It tastes really good, actually.”
He hummed at that, ruffling your hair before looking down at his watch. “I have to meet with Theo and Blaise, but I wanted to give those to you first.” he smiled at you. “Can we meet up later?”
You looked up at him with a look in your eyes that almost made him crumble at the sight. It was absolutely innocent and adorable, the picture perfect representation of everything that he had fallen for. He felt his resolve crumbling in that moment, wanting nothing more than to stay there with you forever. But he had to resist the urge.
Otherwise, his potion wouldn’t work.
“Yeah, we can do that.” you smiled quietly at him. “If the library’s closed, we can meet in the Astronomy Tower right?”
He nodded. “Mhm.” he said, kissing the back of your hand again.
“Okay.” you said, nodding and giggling as he kissed the back of your hand. “I’ll see you later?”
“I’ll see you later.” he whispered back. He could already see a new look of him forming in your eyes, he could feel the way your heart was beating inside of your fingers.
This would be fun.
You felt different.
Your heartbeat was beating faster than you ever felt it beat, and you had escaped from the library early to hide inside of your dorm room. Your body was hot, sweating especially near your hands. You weren’t sure if you were sick, if you would have to cancel your plans on Mattheo due to some fever.
Oh, Mattheo.
Anytime you thought about Mattheo, you felt all of your symptoms worsening. You weren’t sure whether that was a good thing or not. And you also weren’t sure what you were going to tell your roommates either.
Especially Hermione.
“Y/N?” she called out, looking at you with a small frown as she noticed you laying in bed. You were meant to be studying in the library with her right now, though that wouldn’t work if you weren’t exactly there. “Are you doing okay? You weren’t in the library.”
You nodded before shaking your head. “Uh, I don’t know. I’m really hot right now.”
“Do you have a fever?” she asked you curiously. “Or any other symptoms?”
You shrugged your shoulders, clearing your throat as you sat up. Your cheeks were flushed warm and your body was shaking slightly, though it only seemed like that whenever you thought of Mattheo. Did he have some sickness he accidently gave you? There was a chance he was asymptomatic.
“Uh, I’m really hot.” you muttered. “My palms are sweaty. And my heart’s beating really fast.”
Hermione frowned at that, placing her books on her bed and walking over to you. “When did your symptoms start?” she asked as she placed her hand against your forehead.
“Anytime that I think about one of my,” you muttered, clearing your throat. “One of my friends.”
Hermione furrowed her eyebrows at that. “Whenever you think about someone?”
You nodded your forehead. “I think that he might be asymptomatic. We’ve been hanging out recently for tutoring, he needed help with potions.”
“Has this been recent?” Hermione asked, one of her eyebrows raised.
Your eyebrows furrowed at that, looking up at her as you saw the small upward tilt of her lips. “Okay Mione, what is it?”
She chuckled before shaking her head. “Could it be that you might be in love with him?”
You looked up at her confusedly. Blinking once, twice.
Could you be in love with him?
“Maybe.” you whispered quietly, nulling it over in your mind. Mattheo was a good person, wasn’t he? Just misunderstood, certainly. He always listened to you, he made you feel happy. Something you could never place your finger on. But maybe that thing was love.
Could it be love?
“Are you going to hang out with your friend later?” Hermione asked you, watching you nod. “Maybe you can test out your theory there then.
You nodded quietly. “Maybe I will.”
Mattheo was already sitting in the Astronomy Tower when you got there, though you made sure to keep your steps extra quiet when you climbed up. You wanted to observe him first, to watch him when he wasn’t being perceived by you. You thought it might help your theory.
Yet all it did was make your heart beat erratically.
He was absolutely beautiful in the moonlight. It shined on his hair perfectly, the small lantern he had brought showing off every single freckle on his arms and face. You wished that you could make a constellation out of them. Fingers trailing up and down each scar and mark.
“Y/N?”
You snapped out of it when you realized Mattheo was now standing right in front of you. “Mattheo!”
“Are you okay?” he asked quietly, hand moving to caress your cheek. You could feel your heart thumping at the feeling. “You look rather zoned out.”
You shook your head out of its daze with a small smile, walking past him to sit down on the small blanket he brought for the both of you. “Thank you.” you smiled.
“Course,” he said with a chuckle. “Anything for you.”
You felt the pitter patter of your heart rise even more, a flush covering your cheeks. Anything for you?
“I don’t think I got to ask if you finished the chocolate.” he said to you. His voice sounded like raw honey that you would cover a sweet treat with, something that would melt down your throat. “Did you like it?”
“Mhm.” you nodded. “Loved it.”
Mattheo smirked, in a way that you had never seen before. Almost like he had a plan or something going on behind those brown eyes. But you seemed to lose yourself in those eyes before you could realize what the smirk really meant.
“Y/N?” he called out again to you, eyebrows furrowed as you zoned back to reality again. “Are you sure you’re okay? You keep zoning out.”
You felt your heartbeat in your fingers at the concern in his voice. He genuinely cared about you. And that alone made your cheeks flush warmer and warmer until everything was spilling out of your mouth. “You make me feel sick.”
Mattheo blinked for a moment before looking at you once more. “What?”
“My heart feels like it’s pounding out of my chest,” you whispered quietly. “And my face is always warm. I can’t stop myself from sweating even though I hate sweating. And my stomach has these weird butterflies too.”
Mattheo’s face was confused for a moment before a wide smirk broke out on his face, chuckles escaping his throat before he could stop them. “You think you’re sick?”
“Yes!” you pouted. “So don’t laugh at me.”
Mattheo shook his head before leaning closer, close enough to where you could see how full his eyelashes really were. They almost made you jealous. “Y/N,” he whispered quietly. “You sound like you’re in love. Not sick.”
“That’s what Mione said.” you grumbled quietly.
Mattheo raised an eyebrow. “Wouldn’t my second opinion mean it’s truthful?”
You looked at him with the best pout you could muster. That seemed to be enough for him, as his hands cradled your face and his lips gently locked onto yours.
This, you thought, is what heaven must feel like.
His lips were soft and sweet, something you couldn’t seem to get enough of. And his tongue felt like it was yours with the way it slotted so well into your mouth. You didn’t mind the faint taste of blood from a busted lip he had gotten from a fight some time ago, especially since your senses were running on overdrive from the scent of his perfume running your head heady.
He pulled away all too soon, eyes locking on yours. “You’re a rather nice kisser.”
You smiled softly at that, teeth biting your lip as you looked at him. This was your first ever kiss, and it was absolutely perfect.
You didn’t want to change it for the world.
Hermione was observant.
That was a trait she prided herself on quite frequently. Whether it be her keen ability to think of a spell almost as soon as the situation needed it, or her ability to observe others from an intellectual standpoint. Anything textbook was something she could figure out easily.
What she couldn’t figure out was why you were acting so differently.
Ever since you had confessed that you were in love with someone, she had noticed the signs. You came back that night extremely dazed with marks along the side of your neck and legs. She didn’t question then.
You’d skip out on your study sessions from time to time to hang out with whoever you were so in love with. She didn’t question then. Nor did she question the ‘dazed’ look you’d get in your eyes whenever she mentioned the existence of your lover.
That wasn’t until she learned it was Mattheo.
She was sure that she wasn’t meant to know. Your curtains were mostly closed, though they were open enough for her to tell his figure from anywhere.
And that left her mind whirring.
Hermione had heard rumors about the Slytherins learning Amortentia potions for whatever reason that Slytherins needed to learn Amortentia for. She never questioned it at first, for she thought it was a good potion to learn about. Knowing about Amortentia meant that you knew about the signs of poisoning and how to prevent it from escalating further.
And Hermione could easily see the signs within you.
The dazed look in your eyes. The infatuation you had suddenly gained with no knowledge of it before. The way you broke rules to nurture the love. Case in point, somehow sneaking a male Slytherin into the girl’s Gryffindor dormitories.
And Hermione was already getting sick of it.
So much so that she decided to confront you.
“Hi Mione!”
Hermione looked up to see you walking towards her with a small smile, teeth marks and hickeys plastered clearly on your neck. Those were the same marks that girls used to have when Mattheo would hook up with them almost two years ago. Hermione found it quite ironic that they seemingly stopped one day.
“Mystery guy again?” she asked.
You nodded, and Hermione noticed the look in your eyes almost immediately. It was the same look Ron had gotten when Romilda had tried to poison Harry.
“Who is your mystery guy?” she asked you confusedly. “You talk so much about him, yet I never figured out who you’re talking about.
You looked at her with furrowed eyebrows, quite obviously confused. “I thought I told you?”
“No, you didn’t.” she said.
“Oh!” you said before shaking your head. “It’s Mattheo! He asked me out, that one day I thought I was sick.”
Hermione felt her eyebrows furrowing at that. “Mattheo?”
“Mione,” you whined. “He’s a good person. Just because his parents suck doesn’t mean he sucks.”
“The fact that that is your opening leaves me concerned.” she said sternly. “Are you sure he doesn’t have you under some potion?”
“He wouldn’t drug anyone!” you said, ignoring the librarian’s hush that echoed through the library walls. “It’s not my fault that everyone seems to judge him. If you got to know him, maybe you’d understand.”
“Y/N,” Hermione sighed, closing her book. “I’m not saying that because of his reputation. I’m saying that because I’ve noticed the signs in you.”
“What signs?” you asked incredulously.
“The dazed eyes, the lovesick puppy act,” she listed off. “The fact that you’re breaking rules to sneak him into our dormitory. Literally everything.”
You just rolled your eyes at that. “That means nothing.”
“Weren’t you tutoring him on Amortentia when you met?” she asked incredulously.
“That means nothing either.” you spat, standing up with your bag in hand. “I’m going somewhere else to study.”
“Y/N!” Hermione said, unable to grab her books in time to catch up with you leaving the library.
This wasn’t going to end well.
“Mattheo!”
Mattheo turned his head as he heard the sound of your voice, his mind echoing as he repeated it over and over in his mind. There was something wrong.
“What’s wrong?” he asked quietly.
You had tears running down your cheeks and a quivering lip, almost like a kicked puppy. He felt his heart breaking at the sight.
He cooed gently as his hands guided you to his lap, pressing kisses against your temple, cheeks and lips whenever he could. You almost immediately melted into his lap, hands wrapping around his body instinctively.
“What’s wrong baby?” he asked again.
You sniffled. “Hermione thinks that you drugged me.”
Mattheo felt his body stiffen slightly, though he didn’t want you to catch that. “Why would she think that?”
You rolled your eyes before going on to explain the situation, how Hermione had listed symptoms of the Amortentia potion and how you ‘apperently’ fit the box. Mattheo didn’t want to say that you did fit the box, that he had drugged you with Amortentia. What he did know was that he would have to do something about Hermione after this.
“I’m sorry love,” he whispered gently.
You huffed. “It’s just not fair how nobody can see you for you!” you muttered. “You wouldn’t do that, right?”
“Never.” he lied, with such a conviction that even the universe might make it true. “I would never do that to you, my love.”
“Good.” you nodded before sniffing again.
Mattheo hummed and kissed the tip of your nose again, pulling out a small flask of his drink. “I know you don’t drink often,” he whispered, opening the flask and letting you sniff it. “But do you want a drink right now?”
You looked at the drink before nodding, taking the flask from him and drinking as much as you could in one gulp. Mattheo chuckled as his thumbs caressed your waist, loving the slightly pink hue that your eyes had taken.
He also didn’t mind the new hickeys that appeared down your neck that night either.
AUTHOR'S NOTE
well this was quite a fun prompt! i know that this was technically a smut request, but i have a moral thing against love potions being influential in terms of romantic or sexual intercourse (if anyone is curious, i can so make another post about that) and i doubt i'd be very good at representing SA in a harry potter fanfiction, so there isn't any smut for this one. however! i did find this fun to write, knowing that this is just fiction. so thank you for the request anon! u can read part two here!

“Whatcha doin’?” you asked as you walked into the almost-empty classroom.
George lifted his head from the boiling cauldron he was watching over when you entered, eager to share what he had created.
“Well, my dear, Fred has instructed me to try and brew Amortentia so he can try and woo Angelica. He didn’t know how to do it, so I thought I’d step up and give it a try. I was the one that took the notes during Snape’s lecture, anyway,” he explained, winking at you playfully after the last part.
The boys were notorious for not paying attention in class, but George had recently begun to share your preference for potions class. After the night in the common room you shared, filled with fun stories and passionate rants about how useful a knowledge of potions could be, he seemed to become more interested in Snape’s lectures. George even made note to ask you to get together to share notes between quizzes and tests. You were glad that he was becoming more interested in school, but couldn’t stop wondering why he seemed so excited about a topic only after you had went on about your own love for it. Of course, you weren’t complaining, especially because now he seems to want to spend more time with you alone, and you’ve had a crush on him since the two of you were seated next to each other in 5th year charms.
“Is that so? Does Fred not seem to think he can woo her on his own?”
“Apparently not. He’s been trying too hard and thinks he’s overdone it. He’s asked her to the Yule Ball like 3 times already,” George says, chuckling over his brother’s endeavors.
“Yikes. He clearly didn’t inherit the charms of the family then,” you joked, nudging George’s arm with your elbow. He leaned forward towards your stature, smirking with intrigue at your comment.
“And who do you rather think inherited those genes?” he asked you playfully, his prideful smirk remaining on his beautiful, freckled face.
“Ah, well, I’d have to say Harry, being as your mother counts him as part of the family, and he seems to have more charm with the ladies than any of you!” you declared, smiling widely.
George tilts his head back, clutching his chest in faux agony.
“Oh how you wound me, dearest.”
The two of you share a charged moment of giggling before the moment got cut short with a terrible sound coming from the cauldron.
“Merlin, I forgot to keep stirring it!” George exclaimed, rushing over to the side of the cauldron once again.
Just as he reached the bubbling, smoking mixture, a popping sound and a wall of purple smoke filled the room in less than a second. Once the dust settled, you looked over at George only to fall into a fit of laughter at his appearance. The tall, muscular ginger was covered head-to-toe in a purple dust, which left not a part of his body uncovered. The tall man wiped his eyes, if only to playfully scowl at you laughing at him. Of course, he found your giggles so contagious, he couldn’t help but fall into a fit of them himself.
Once the laughter died down, you and George began walking back to his common room to clean up.
“Guess I’m going to need some help with that potion, too,” he chuckled.
⏃⏂⏃
The time was getting late, or so it felt like. Everyone else had left your common room, but George remained determined to finish the unit the two of you were working on. Snape had made a paper due in two days from when it was assigned, like the evil bastard he is, and you knew George was stressing. He was never very good at writing papers. Like the good friend you are, you had offered to help him, especially with his wording. He had gladly accepted, appreciating your help. Then, not only would the two of you get to spend time together, but you could help him become a better student, which was always a nice goal.
After the third question he answered was revealed to be wrong, George groaned and laid his head back on the common room couch seat, covering his face with his hands. You propped your arm up on the seat as well and turned your body to face George, trying not to let that beautiful groan go to places it shouldn’t. You were just friends, after all.
“It’s alright George, I’m sure you know it. You just need a little break,” you comforted, laying a hand on his shoulder gently.
George released his hands from his face, allowing them to slide to his sides once more, and turned his head to face you. You could’ve sworn you saw a blush donning his cheeks as his eyes flicked ever so slightly towards your hand, but the moment passed just as quickly as it had appeared. His beautiful brown eyes glistened in the light coming from the fireplace, and a heat began to rush to your own cheeks. You wanted to blame that on the fireplace as well.
“Perhaps. Maybe we should put on some music. A little dance party never hurt anyone,” he suggested, a shit-eating grin beginning to take over his face.
With a nod of agreement from you, George popped up and put on a record. You groaned as you heard the first few notes of O’ Children by Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds begin to play. Of course the man would put on a song he knew you couldn’t resist dancing to. He flounced over to where you were seated on the floor and reached out his hand, a glimmer of mischief lingering in his eyes. You grabbed his hand and he pulled you up to your feet so quickly it felt like you were flying for a second, so much so that you lost your balance and fell a bit forward into George’s arms. You were able to quickly gain your composure, giggling it off and turning your head away so he couldn’t see the redness that had climbed onto your cheeks. All George did was chuckle at you, and he began leading you with the hand he still held to the main area of the common room. The man used your hand to turn you around and begin the dancing he had suggested, and you couldn’t help but laugh. The two of you turned and swayed to the rhythm until you naturally fell into a close position, chests only inches apart, hands clasped together. It felt as if you were at last year’s Yule Ball, only this was much better, since you didn’t have a nervous Seamus stepping on your toes. You swayed to the music in perfect harmony, easily falling into an unspoken rhythm that always followed the two of you. George must’ve been thinking the same thing you were, because after a few more seconds of only the music filling the room, he spoke in a hushed tone.
“This is nice. I like dancing with you,” he smiled.
“I like dancing with you too, George. You’re surprisingly good at it.” George rolled his eyes playfully.
“Yeah, well, let’s just say I practiced to impress my date last year. Seems I was the only one out of the two of us,” he chucked, eyes gleaming with the memory. “She stepped on me so many times, I think I have permanent markings on my shoes.”
You giggled, sharing his pain.
“Poor little George,” you teased.
“Oh hush, you,” he fired, wrinkling his nose in the way that made your heart flutter.
After another quiet moment, he seemed to hesitate at saying something else. You piped up and bugged him to say what was on his mind, eager to hear what he had to say.
“I don’t know if it would be weird, but would you want to go to the Yule Ball with me this year? It would save us from having to scramble to find decent dates. And hey, if it’s anything like tonight, I think my shoes will be intact by the end of the night,” he chuckled, trying to make light of the question, but his arms had seemed to tense up a bit.
You smiled up at him, trying your best to not let him feel your nerves.
“Of course I’d like to go with you. I’m sure it’ll be amazing. I heard they were even trying to get Nick Cave come perform this year!”
George sighed and continued your conversation as the two of you continued to sway to the music, but you could’ve sworn his body relaxed with that breath of air. You tried to shake the thought off, because why would he be nervous about asking you to go to the dance? You were sure your crush was merely one-sided. Thinking he had any other feelings towards you would only lead to your own heartbreak, so you pushed the thoughts down and simply tried to enjoy this moment.
⏃⏂⏃
As the ball continued on, you and George couldn’t help but get restless. The music this year was terrible compared to last year, and somehow they managed to mess up the catering, so the pumpkin juice was watery at best. As the night droned on, you couldn’t help but want to get out of there. You knew it wasn’t proper, since it was the middle of the party, but you could tell most people were not having a good time by the amount of people secluding to their tables.
George and you had danced a bit in the beginning, but the two of you agreed that it began to suck so bad it wasn’t even worth trying to jam to. Instead, you had found your way to your table with his brothers, and laughed the night away. The Weasleys never failed to make a boring event a good time. That is, until Fred began pestering George about the Amortentia. George tried to wave him off, but once Fred left, he seemed genuinely bothered by the fact he wasn’t able to brew it. As you thought more about what went wrong, it felt as if the idea just fell right into your lap.
“George, I know what went wrong. We can fix the potion for Fred!” you shared excitedly, placing your hand on his freckled arm. He turned to you, face lighting up.
“Really? We can do it right?” he asked excitedly.
“I think so! C’mon, then!” you exclaimed, standing from your chair.
“What? Now?”
“Yes, now! Would you rather stay here and watch Neville try to dance with your sister again? Because I assure you, they are the only ones having fun at the moment.”
George laughed, grabbing your hand.
“Let’s go, then,” he said, shit-eating grin returning to his beautiful features.
⏃⏂⏃
George basically dragged you back to his dorm. Strangely, this was never how you pictured this happening. Yet, here you were. Honestly, his setup as a prefect was not too shabby at all. An entire room and bathroom to himself, a nice desk he could lay out papers and his cauldron on, a whole story above the main dorms? He was pretty much living the dream up there.
The man eagerly began taking his notes from different books, all scattered along his desk. Though the man had his own space for once, you knew he still wouldn’t clean up after himself. Guys.
After about an hour that had only felt like mere minutes, the two of you had almost completely finished the potion. After decent care and proper mixing, there was only one step left to complete the most powerful love potion ever made.
“Alright then, the recipe says that you must add three drops of unicorn tears, exactly. No more, no less,” you explain.
“What happens if more is added? I don’t have the most reliable dropper,” George questions fretfully.
“Beats me. I’ve never seen it done in real life before. Just, be careful, I guess.”
George looks back at you, a worried look in his eyes as he turns to the cauldron.
“Now or never, I guess. Here we go... there’s one, two...”
Before George could finish his sentence, a cloud of dark red smoke erupts from the cauldron and fills the room. The two of you look to each other in horror, equally knowing that is not how the potion should act.
“What did you do?” you questioned frantically.
“I don’t know! I guess the dropper malfunctioned and did two fast drops instead of only one! What’s it going to do?”
“I don’t know, don’t ask me! Do you think it’s going to explode again?”
The two of you look to the cauldron, which remained calm as ever. The smoke even began to settle. You sighed with a bit of relief.
“I don’t think so,” George answered. “Last time it did that because of the bubbles. It seems to be settling all by itself.”
Just as the you began to relax, thinking nothing was to come out of fucking up the potion, you noticed the smoke beginning to seep into George’s skin. You looked down at your legs to see it was doing the same to you. George didn’t seem to notice, and it didn’t feel like it was doing anything to your body, so the two of you decided to call it a night.
You were in the process of going back to your dorm when all of a sudden, a burning desire settled into your lower abdomen. A sensation that you’ve never felt before began building and building, taking over your entire body by the second. Your body began feeling hot all over, and an all too familiar wetness began to pool in your panties. You rushed back to your dorm, and thankfully none of the other girls were back from the dance yet. You thought maybe satisfying yourself would make the world-burning desire subside, but even long after you finished and attempted to go to sleep, the feeling of needing more lingered in you. You tossed and turned, but no amount of sleepiness could satisfy your growing need. Giving in, you swiftly got out of bed and stormed over to George’s dorms, wondering if he was having the same affects as you.
Right as you were about to knock on his door, it swung open to the tall, flushed man glistening with sweat. George’s face was almost as red as his hair, but even in this condition, he was as beautiful as ever. The moment you saw him, the burning between your legs heightened. You tried to suppress your squirming.
“Hey,” George panted. “I was just coming to find you.”
He rushed you inside his room and locked the door quickly as you entered.
“What the fuck is going on?” you ask frantically, still trying to keep your movements under control, even when the itch to go up to George and kiss him was growing by the minute.
“I don’t know, one minute I’m fine, the next my skin feels like it’s on fire!”
“I know! What are we supposed to do?!”
“I don’t know that, either,” George gasped, throwing a hand into his sweaty but yet still perfectly curled hair. “We don’t know how long it takes to wear off. There’s no research in the school for this shit. I mean, I guess we can try doing it ourselves, but-”
“Doesn’t work,” you mutter, casting your eyes upon the ground. You desperately tried to hold yourself together as the dirty thoughts in your head became louder. “I tried.”
“You tri- oh. Okay, yeah. Wonderful,” he flushed more, if a such thing was even possible to do in his condition.
There was a nervousness to his voice, one that didn’t sound like it was stemming from the stress of the situation. The nerves felt like- like he was trying to hold desperately onto something he had been trying to keep for a while.
“Are you okay?” you ask.
“I mean, I could be better. This isn’t the best situation to be in right now, especially with you.”
“Especially with me? What’s that got to mean?”
“Ugh, I just.. I don’t know, okay? I’m stressed out enough, I didn’t need this- predicament. I’m already dealing with enough feelings.”
Thanks George, how vague.
“I mean, you can always go fix it. I know you’ve got a crush on Angelina, but you don’t want Fred to find out. You were being weird around her all evening. I can tell she feels the same, if that’s what you’re worried about. If you so badly want this to be fixed, I’m sure she would be happy to help you out,” you explain, even though your heart feels like it’s tearing into two by telling him.
You had seen the way Angelina had been looking at him all night. It made you sick, but you knew he was stressed about school, so if that push is what he needed to help him out, so be it. Who were you to keep him from his crush.
“Angelina? No! Even though Fred has a crush on her, I wouldn’t go for her anyway. I don’t like her like that. She’s not the one I would rather fix this with!” George exclaims, exasperated.
A pause. What? Who did he want to fix it with?
“Then who? Tell me whoever you’d like and I can try to track them down. I don’t want you stuck like this when you’ve got so much going on already.”
George shoves his hands in his hair again, letting out an exasperated and strained sigh. He plops on the side of his bed, that strong body of his looking weaker as he defeatedly sits there.
“You really don’t get it do you? Or do you enjoy seeing me in pain?”
Confused, your eyes flick to where they really shouldn’t have. There, sitting very uncomfortably in the leg of his loose basketball shorts, was a very large problem. The sight just about made your knees give out, and you stumbled back a bit to lean on the corner of George’s desk. Your mind flicked back to what he had said a moment ago. You really don’t get it.
“What do I not get?”
Another sigh.
“Have I not made it glaringly obvious? I try to study with you as much as I can, alone. I always make sure I play the songs that help your brain relax when you’re stressed. I make sure I sit on the right of you during classes so you can see the board. I asked you to the bloody Yule Ball. Can’t you see? I like you, okay? I always have,” George lets out like a wave of emotion. His hands fly up to cover his eyes, as if they were strained from stress or lack of sleep.
The fluttering in your chest begins again, but not the kind caused by the potion. George likes you? He likes you back? You heart begins beating so fast its sound fills your ears. A rush of emotions fill you. Happiness, clarity, regret of not seeing it sooner. You had pushed down the idea that he liked you for so long that you couldn’t see what was right in front of you! Now’s the time to make up for it, you guessed.
You walked slowly over to where George sat and faced him. Carefully, as if you were handling the most precious pottery, you moved your hands to remove his from his eyes. George looked up at you with his glimmering eyes full of questions, all of which you answered by leaning down and kissing him.
The moment your lips met, it’s as if time stopped. The most colorful fireworks seemed to flood your mind, because finally, you were kissing George, and he was kissing you back. He kissed you like he had been waiting for years, like you were his air and the two of you were underwater. His hands moved to cup your cheek and press along your back, pulling you closer to him until your bodies were flush against each other. The burning sensation along your entire body intensified, as if this is what the feeling was waiting for. George must’ve felt it too, because he let a groan seep into your kiss. Your legs almost gave out at the sound, and as quick as lightning, George flipped you so you were lying on the bed with him on top of you. Pausing to take a breath, George’s eyes flicked from your lips back to your eyes.
“You won’t believe how long I’ve been waiting to do that,” he admitted, eyes gleaming in the light from the fireplace.
“Me too,” you whispered, taking a moment to trace his features with the tip of your finger. His freckles, his strong nose, breathtaking smile. Your hand settled on his cheek, thumb rubbing up and down like he was the most precious thing you had ever held. Honestly, he was.
George leaned in to kiss you again, softer this time. You could feel all his emotion pouring into the kiss, almost gasping from the intensity you felt. You let him take his time with you, mapping out your every feature with his lips, planting loving kisses all over. It was more than pleasant to say the least, having someone you had loved in secret for years finally loving you right back. You could’ve stayed like that for hours, if it weren’t for the increasing pressure and sensation in your abdomen. You were sure George felt the heat rising as well, because with a glance, he began kissing down your neck, paying special attention to the spot that made you squirm underneath him. Before you knew it, he was kissing down your clothed chest. His eyes flicked to yours, as if asking a question, and you nodded, moving to remove your shirt.
Once it was across the room, George reached behind and unclasped your bra with such skill it seemed like he had practiced just for this moment. The rush made your heart pump fast with excitement and anticipation, but what it pumped with the most was love for this man. You could tell how much he cared from every glance up to your face, always with the question of consent. You happily gave it to him every time, knowing there was no one else in the world you’d rather share this moment with.
Once your top was fully unclothed, George’s mouth began trailing all over your body, taking special time to grasp each nipple between his teeth. With each flick of his tongue, you could feel the burning sensation growing, so you grasped onto George’s shoulder as if to warn him. The potion must’ve been giving him the treatment it had given to you, because he seemed to understand each of your movements perfectly. That, or he already knew you the meaning behind your movements because he had always paid such close attention to your body language. After gaining consent, George happily ripped the rest of your clothes off in seconds, and George’s fingers trailed down to the spot with the most intense burning. The spot you had been waiting for. After getting the okay from you and wetting his fingers, he slowly pushed two into you, curling them perfectly to hit the spot that made your body go haywire. George watched as your back rose off the mattress, as your beautiful eyes rolled back into your head with every curve of his fingertips. It was the most breathtaking sight he had ever seen. After using his other hand to press on your lower stomach gently in order to intensify the feeling, he dipped his head bow and his tongue went to work on your throbbing clit. The pleasure this man gave you was so intense and incredible he had you in tears in seconds, working you up to one of the most intense orgasm you had ever experienced. Every muscle in your body was on fire, the perfect man giving you pleasure combined with the power from the potion sending you over the edge in less than a minute. Your body seemed to set fire as the coil in your stomach snapped and the pleasure hit you like a wave all at once. George took a moment to take in your movements, in awe of everything you did. Without wasting any more time, George crawled back up to you and kissed you, wrapping the arm he used to prop himself up with around your arm to cradle you. You felt elated, wanting nothing more than to have more of this man. He brought his head back to look at you and slowly raised one of your legs to wrap around his torso, all without breaking eye contact. With a nod and a slow, sensual kiss, George slowly pushed into you, supporting your head with his arm as you threw it back in pleasure. The feeling of his rock hard length pushing in and out of you at an insanely slow pace was driving you insane, the burning sensation making it feel like your world had just set fire.
“Faster,” you begged, grasping a hand on one of George’s large, muscular shoulders.
He did as you commanded, speeding up his movements. He set an above average pace, both of you on the verge of snapping from the mix of heat and pleasure the potion was providing, and his freckled features turned into such a beautifully nasty expression that it should be either framed or illegal. George looked too good all riled up and sweaty, you admitted to yourself.
Before you knew it, the two of you were reaching your brink. George picked up the pace, pounding you into the mattress so hard you were surprised it hadn’t given out under you. He reached his free hand down to toy with your clit more, hoping to speed up and intensify the impending feeling about to wash over you. Together, the two of you released all the tension that had been building up since you began loving each other, and it all washed over you in such an intense and intimate wave. You couldn’t have asked for anything better, because you had it all. The beautiful man that laid on top of you, feeling completely worn out and boneless, was everything you knew he was, and even maybe a bit more. He was as perfect as a man could be, and the best part is that he adored you somehow even more than you adored him. The love and care you had for each other matched no other. You knew after this there was no going back, but you were okay with that, because you wouldn’t have had it any other way.

Amorous Tension
Summary: Poppy is quite sure her best friend has feelings for our favourite heir of Slytherin. MC is quite sure she doesn't, despite abundant evidence to the contrary. When Ominis asks MC to help him study for an upcoming potions exam, she jumps at the chance. TL;DR: Two idiots in love brew amortentia together.
A collab with the lovely @darch7995, who created the audio version of this story. Listen to the first part here and the second here.
Ominis Gaunt x F!MC
Warnings: the mildest of hand kinks, kissing, a surprising amount of schoolwork, stressing about exams, failure to communicate
Word count: 4185
You tapped your quill anxiously on the edge of your parchment, forming an ever-growing blot of ink in the margin. You were re-reading a paragraph in Flesh-Eating Trees of the World on a South American anteater-eating shrub. The words made as little of an impression in your mind as they had the first time.
A hand settled on top of yours, startling you.
“You’re going to put a hole in the table if you keep that up. And I doubt Madam Scribner would be pleased,” Poppy said teasingly.
You sighed, setting down the quill before dropping your head onto the table. “I’m going to fail. I know nothing. Less than nothing, even. Garlick is going to laugh me out of the greenhouse,” you said hopelessly.
Poppy rubbed your back comfortingly. “No, she’s not,” she assured you.
You let out a frustrated groan. “I’m never learning the difference between Jacaranda muscipula and Delonix geogalinivorae. They’re both just bloodthirsty ferns.”
A smooth voice came from behind you. “Jacaranda muscipula is native to South America, and its diet consists largely of deer mice. Delonix geogalinivorae is found in Madagascar and feeds exclusively on tenrecs.”
Your head shot up off the table. “Ominis,” you said in a higher pitch than you’d intended. You twisted in your chair to see your aristocratic classmate standing there looking effortlessly flawless.
“Hello, MC, Poppy,” he said with a pleasant smile. “I take it you’re dreading Garlick’s exam as much as Sebastian is.”
You scrunched your nose. “More, probably,” you said dismally.
“Well, I had come to see if you might be able to help me study for Sharp’s exam on Monday,” he said. “I could help you with herbology after. Of course, I’d be happy to help even if you don’t have time for potions practice.”
You gaped at him. He was asking you for help? Amit and Sebastian both had top grades in potions. You’d taken to it quite well, but the two boys had several more years of experience than you did. Garreth knew every ingredient and recipe inside and out, though he almost never stuck to the instructions – you could see why Ominis wouldn’t have asked him for help.
Your stomach leapt at the idea of spending time at the bench – just you and Ominis, brushing elbows at the cosy workspace. It was always dizzying being in such close proximity – the effect of his expensive cologne, surely.
Poppy would probably argue differently. She’d just been pestering you just that morning about your alleged feelings for the sarcastic Slytherin.
“You’re the biggest flirt I’ve ever met, MC,” Poppy said, rolling her eyes as you walked to the Great Hall.
Garreth had just been talking to you out in the courtyard about needing to acquire Thornback Matriarch venom for a new potion he was working on. You had told him he’d probably be better equipped than you were at charming the ladies into giving him what he wanted.
“I think you’re jealous and just need to ask the Gryffindor out, already,” you argued, shooting her a quelling look. “I was just being funny.”
“Mhmm,” she replied sceptically. “Well, I think it’s funny how I’ve seen you flirt with Garreth, Leander, Sebastian, Amit, and even Imelda, but when a certain serpent with stormy eyes and chiselled cheekbones comes around, you turn into a frightened little puffskein. You go all ruddy-faced and start stammering.”
She was poorly suppressing a smirk as she looked at you.
You scoffed. “I do not stammer!”
“Yeah, and I don’t fancy Garreth,” she replied sarcastically. “Admit it, you’ve got a crush on Ominis.”
“That’s ridiculous,” you asserted, glaring at her.
She raised a hand to her lips to stifle a giggle. “Then why’s your face match Garreth’s luscious locks right now?”
“Oh, shut it!” you said, increasing your pace so that Poppy fell behind.
She just laughed at you. “You’re only proving my point, you know!” she called after you.
Poppy elbowed you sharply between your ribs. You’d gone far too long without replying. “Ow!” you hissed at her.
Ominis had a nervous look on his face. “Sorry?” he asked.
“Oh, no, that wasn’t at you,” you said quickly. “I mean, I’d love to study with you.”
His expression immediately brightened. “Wonderful! When are you free?” he said.
“How about now?” you suggested as you began to pack up your things.
“Oh, I don’t want to interrupt,” Ominis said.
“No, it’s fine,” you insisted. You shot Poppy a reproachful look. “I’m suddenly feeling unsafe here in the library.”
Poppy stuck her tongue out at you. “Yes, I need to go help Professor Howin feed the thestrals, anyway. You two have fun,” she said much too giddily.
You sent her one more glare as you slung your bag over your shoulder. “So, shall we use the Room of Requirement?” you asked Ominis.
“That sounds perfect!” he replied brightly.
You led Ominis out of the library and started the long climb up to the 7th floor of the astronomy tower. You were glad to stretch your legs after sitting in the library for so long.
“I don’t know how you can keep those carnivorous trees straight in your head,” you commented as you strode down a long corridor. “They look exactly the same to me when they’re not in bloom.”
“Do they?” he replied, sounding intrigued.
For a moment, you wanted to sink through the floor. Obviously, the fact that the two trees looked alike was of little consequence to him. “Sorry, I wasn’t even thinking.”
Ominis chuckled. “It’s all right,” he said, clearly amused. “It’s strange to think that they seem so similar to you. They feel quite different. The jacaranda tree has very rough bark, and the geogalinivore has waxy leaves. Plus, it has a sweet smell – sort of like oranges.”
“That’s actually very helpful. Thank you,” you said.
He smiled softly at you. You couldn’t help but notice how one of the beauty marks on his left cheek disappeared into his dimple when he smiled. “I’m glad to be of service,” he replied.
You could feel your face flush, though you had no reason to be blushing. You were relieved when you reached the 7th floor and the door to the Room of Requirement appeared. You cleared your throat. “Right, well, we’re h-here,” you said, cringing at yourself for tripping over the words.
Ominis held the door open for you as you entered the Room of Requirement. “I appreciate you helping me practice. Sharp’s class was hard enough when I knew what I’d be expected to brew. Having to prepare to make any one of four potions has been quite stressful.”
“It is a bit ridiculous,” you agreed as you started pulling ingredients out of your cabinet.
“Honestly! It’s hard enough keeping the ingredients for one potion straight – let alone for the Elixir to Induce Euphoria, Draught of Living Death, Veritaserum, and Amortentia,” he said.
“It is a lot,” you said. “Where should we start?”
“Hm…Well, I don’t think I would be very productive after testing potions for sleep or euphoria. We’d best leave those for later,” he replied. “What do you think? Amortentia or Veritaserum?”
“Amortentia’s easy enough to test. We can tell if it’s right just by how it looks and smells. Let’s start with that,” you suggested.
Ominis smirked. “You just don’t want me getting you to spill all your secrets,” he teased.
You chuckled. “You’re right; I don’t,” you agreed honestly. You weren’t exactly a secretive person ever since you didn’t have to hide your ancient magic anymore. However, the thought of not being ableto hide anything if you wanted to was terrifying.
“Amortentia it is, then!” Ominis said. “It’s the one I’m best at, anyway.”
He lit the flame to heat the cauldron before beginning to grind the moonstone with a mortar and pestle.
“So, what does Amortentia smell like to you?” he asked, chatting as he worked.
“I’m not sure,” you admitted as you leaned a hip against the bench.
“What do you mean you’re not sure? Were you holding your breath when we brewed it last week?” he teased. He cracked two ashwinder eggs into the cauldron before adding the powdered moonstone and stirring it together.
“No! I just…Well, I guess it’s that it doesn’t smell like anything to me,” you admitted.
“You must be joking. Surely you smelled something,” he replied incredulously.
“Just the usual musky dungeon,” you joked. “I thought I’d just brewed it wrong at first, but yours didn’t smell like anything to me, either.”
His brows drew together. “That is curious. I know I made mine right, because it…Well, it worked for me,” he said, his cheeks colouring a bit. “Do you just not find anyone attractive, then?” he added casually as he began cutting the thorns off of some rose stems.
“I don’t know. I mean, I used to think I did, but…now I’m not so sure,” you replied. “I don’t know what could be wrong with me to not smell anything if I did like someone.”
“I’m certain there’s nothing wrong with you, MC,” Ominis replied.
You sighed. “I hope not,” you replied before biting your bottom lip anxiously. “I thought maybe everyone was lying about smelling different things, and it’s really just an odourless potion. But I checked three different texts in the library, and they all said the same thing Professor Sharp did about the smell being unique to what each person finds attractive.”
“It’s definitely not odourless,” Ominis replied with a smirk. He shook his head as if to snap himself out of something before clearing his throat. He turned his attention back to the potion.
He added the thorns to the cauldron before beginning on the petals. You watched his hands as he plucked the petals off the stems, stacked them neatly, and rolled them together before slicing them into thin, even strips. He was quite skilled in his technique. Despite sharing a bench in potions all year, you’d never really noticed how fluidly he worked. There was an almost entrancing nature to the graceful movements.
“So, what does it smell like to you?” you inquired as you forced yourself to stop staring at the veins winding over his wrists and across the backs of his hands out to his slender fingers. You had always thought there was something nice about his hands.
“Oh, there is no way I’m admitting that,” he replied.
“But I told you when you asked,” you argued.
He rolled his eyes at you. “Nothing doesn’t count as an answer.”
“But it’s the truth! I can’t help that I didn’t smell anything,” you argued.
“I’m still not telling,” he insisted. He added the rose petals to the potion. His brow furrowed as his fingers skimmed over the fronts of several bottles. “Which is the pearl dust?”
“Third from the right,” you said before letting out a laugh as a realisation struck you.
“What?” he asked a bit defensively. “Did I grab the wrong one?” He shook the sealed bottle by his ear to listen to its contents shift within.
“No, that’s the pearl dust. I just…” You giggled again, and his scowl deepened. “I just realised that’s the last ingredient and the first thing I’ve helped you with. Seems like you barely need me here.”
He relaxed almost instantly, even laughing a bit himself. “Well, it’s much easier to brew here,” he explained. “I know which ingredients are which when they’re in my own containers – and even most of yours at this point – but almost all of Sharp’s bottles are identical. I have to figure out what’s in each one every time I pick it up. Sometimes it takes four or five tries to find what I’m looking for. It wastes so much time.”
“That sounds extremely frustrating,” you said sympathetically.
“It is,” he lamented as he added a spoonful of pearl dust to the cauldron. He stirred it clockwise three times before lowering the flame. “There! It should just need to simmer for a bit, and then we’ll see how it turned out.”
“I’m sure it’s perfect,” you said as you settled into a high-backed chair, kicking your feet up on the ottoman in front of it.
“I appreciate your confidence in me,” he said. “You know, I was even worse at potions when I was younger. I tried summoning the ingredients to myself in the early years, and it was usually a disaster. In first year, we had to brew a burn salve during our exams, and I simply could not find the dittany, even after sifting through all the ingredients on my bench three times. I gave up and summoned it, and it knocked over all the bottles in front of it on its way to me. They rolled all over the bench, and I had nearly plunged my hand straight into my cauldron trying to put them back in order. During another exam, I tried to summon flobberworm mucus, and all the bottles of the stuff came flying towards me at the same time.” He laughed. “It was all over me, my bench, the floor. Amit nearly slipped in it trying to come over and help. Professor Sharp was livid, but I think he felt too badly for me to give me detention.”
You couldn’t help but laugh, as well. “Oh, I’d have died on the spot!” you said.
“I nearly did. It was utterly horrifying,” he said. “I pretended to be sick for three days after that because I couldn’t stand the thought of facing everyone. I even had Sebastian bring me food so that I didn’t have to go out to the Great Hall. But I’ve learned to bounce back from my Blind Boy Moments quite quickly since.”
“Could Sharp not just label the ingredients for you?” you asked.
Ominis scoffed. “No, he insists that every good potions student should be able to identify the ingredients on their own,” he said, exasperated. “He wouldn’t even let me come in beforehand to label them myself because other students might see them. He also won’t let me use my own containers because it’s all got to be ‘standardised’ so it’s fair.”
“Well, that’s quite the opposite of fair! He’s putting you at a disadvantage,” you said. You could feel yourself getting angry on Ominis’s behalf.
“I am perfectly capable of identifying the ingredients. Just because I can’t see them doesn’t mean I’m incompetent,” he said bitterly.
You were taken aback as his ire turned toward you. “I wasn’t trying to imply that you are, Ominis, I swear!” you said earnestly. “It just seems unreasonable that he won’t accommodate you at all. It’s so frustrating. I have an uncle who’s blind. He wasn’t born that way – he had an accident. And he’s a Muggle. So…it’s a bit different, obviously. But he’s worked in kitchens all his life. When he first went blind, he couldn’t cook anymore. But his boss’s wife, Marjorie, was blind, too. She taught him how to navigate the kitchen again without being able to see. They made adjustments to things so he could keep working there.”
“You have a blind uncle?” he asked, seeming shocked.
“Almost all my life. He married my aunt when I was just a baby,” you explained. “He cooks even better than a house-elf, too! Don’t tell Feenky I said that, though. Or Deek, for that matter.”
“I can’t believe you have a blind uncle,” Ominis said, still stunned.
“Really?” you asked. “Why not?”
He shrugged. “I’ve never met another blind person,” he said.
“Never?” you said, surprised.
“Not once,” he confirmed. “My parents weren’t exactly looking to find me a support group. It’s exceptionally rare in the wizarding world, anyway. So, they sort of just kept me hidden away until school. They hadn’t even expected I’d get a letter even though I clearly had magic. It wasn’t until I figured out how to navigate by wand that they stopped treating me like a doll instead of a child. Even my Aunt Noctua was rather overbearing. No one ever believed I could do something myself until I showed them I could.”
“I can’t imagine how difficult it was going through all of that on your own,” you said.
Ominis gave a haughty huff. “Yes, well, I think I’ve done all right for myself,” he said firmly, crossing his arms protectively over his chest.
“You’ve done more than all right, I’d say,” you argued. “Which reminds me, you still have to tutor me in herbology after this.”
He chuckled. “Don’t worry; I haven’t forgotten,” he said.
“You’d better not have,” you said sternly. Your severe expression didn’t last, though. You couldn’t help but smile around him. “Wait, so, if you didn’t have anyone to help you figure things out, did you invent the spell that lets you read books?”
“Ah, well, I suppose I wasn’t entirely on my own. Sebastian found that spell in an old tome in the library. Some languorous 17th-century scholar grew weary of having to keep his eyes open whilst reading,” he replied. “It worked quite well in my favour.”
“If there’s one thing Sebastian excels at, it’s research,” you replied.
“Yes, and it’s been both a blessing and a curse in my life,” he said irritably.
“I feel the same,” you said wearily.
Ominis spun back toward the potions station. “It smells like the potion’s ready,” he announced.
You got up and walked over to inspect it. “Mother-of-pearl sheen. Perfect spirals of steam. Excellent work, indeed, Ominis.”
He blushed at your praise. “Any essence of musky dungeon emanating from it?” he joked.
You laughed. You leaned over the cauldron and breathed in deeply to play along. “Oh,” you said, caught off guard by the smell. “Yeah, actually. It…” You took in another breath. It was masked beneath the cologne Ominis was wearing, but you could distinctly smell the cool, earthy scent that permeated the lower levels of the castle. “It does.”
“Merlin, MC! You don’t have a crush on Professor Sharp, do you?” he asked, aghast.
“Gods, no!” you replied immediately. “It’s not the dungeons, anyway. It’s different. But…familiar.”
You tried to smell it again, but it was still too hard to tell. You hadn’t realised earlier just how strong Ominis’s cologne was that day. Usually, you found the scent rather pleasant, but, currently, it was making it extremely difficult to smell anything else. You grabbed a phial and poured some of the potion into it. “I can’t tell what it is. I need to smell it in fresh air.”
“Are you trying to tell me that I smell foul?” Ominis demanded as you walked away from him.
“No, not at all,” you said before taking another sniff of the potion. “It’s just that your–”
Your voice died in your throat as two realisations struck you simultaneously. The first was that the earthy scent you had identified was the exact smell of the Undercroft. The second was that you still smelled Ominis’s cologne just as strongly even though you were on the opposite side of the room from him. The phial slipped from your hand and shattered on the wood floor.
“Are you all right?” Ominis asked, rushing over to you in a panic. “Did the potion burn you? I heard glass break. Did you get cut?”
He took both of your hands in his to feel for any injuries. The tips of his fingers brushed gently over your skin, and it sent a shiver up your spine.
“Sorry, no, I’m fine. I just–I hadn’t realised…something,” you said. You heart felt like it was beating out of your chest. Poppy had been right. You did fancy Ominis.
Ominis released one of your hands to raise his to your cheek. “Are you certain that you’re okay, MC?” he asked.
Your skin burned hot under his touch. “Y-yes, of course. I was just surprised when I placed the smell,” you said.
He tilted his head in interest. “Oh? What is it?” he asked.
You bit into your lower lip, keeping yourself silent as you wavered on whether to confess. He did seem to be rather doting at the moment. You wondered if he might return your affections.
“Perhaps I should’ve brewed the Veritaserum first, after all,” Ominis joked. “Maybe then I could finally get you to tell me what you smell.”
You laughed. “That’s not necessary. I just…Well, I’m pretty sure it’s, um…the Undercroft,” you said. Your nerves increased with every word, but you felt a flood of relief after getting them all out.
“Oh,” Ominis said uncomfortably. His whole body went rigid before his hands dropped away from you. “I…I see.”
“Ominis, I…” you started, trying and failing to figure out how to take the words back. You imagined the mortification you were experiencing was similar to how he had felt standing covered in flobberworm mucus in front of his peers.
“Well, I suppose I should still tell you what I smell, since you told me what you do,” he said sombrely. “Though, I can’t imagine it will be all that surprising.” He took a steadying breath. “It smells like old parchment, like those dusty pages Professor Weasley had you collecting last year. And I smell the mallowsweet you always carry around with you. And your shampoo. I always smell it when you hug me or fall asleep with your head on my shoulder.” He cleared his throat. “So…there you have it.”
“Are you upset about this?” you asked, bewildered by his tense reaction.
He forced a laugh. “What? No, of course not!” he insisted, but it wasn’t quite convincing. “I’m happy for you.”
“Happy for me?” you repeated, even more confused.
“Both of you, I mean,” he clarified, giving you a pained smile. “Although I’ve never asked Sebastian about his feelings toward you, with the way he flirts with you, I’m sure he reciprocates.”
“You think I fancy Sebastian?” you asked.
“Well, he’s the one who showed you the Undercroft,” he replied simply.
“Ominis, you’re the one he learned about it from. You’re the one I hang out with there. It’s rosewood and jasmine from your cologne that I smell in that bloody potion!” you said.
His brows knit together in confusion. “I thought you just smelled the Undercroft?” he said.
“Well, that’s what I thought when I was standing next to you – and in class last week,” you said. “You were right there, so I didn’t realise the smell of you was coming from the cauldron instead of…you know…you.”
His features went slack. “Oh…” he said awkwardly.
“Yeah…” you replied similarly.
“I’m a massive idiot,” he said, shaking his head at himself.
You smiled. “Yeah,” you said. “We kind of both are, aren’t we?”
“It would appear so,” he agreed. He laughed as he stepped closer and wrapped his arms around your waist. “Well, this has certainly been an illuminating study session.”
You melted into him instantly. “Indeed, it has.”
“You smell wonderful, you know,” he said as he nuzzled his nose against yours.
You giggled in response. “You smell quite nice, as well,” you replied.
“I taste even better,” he said cheekily.
Your gaze immediately dropped to his lips. “Is that so?” you asked, your voice coming out husky.
“I can prove it if you’d like,” he said. His breath fanned over your lips as he spoke.
“Yes, I think you should,” you replied. “For…educational purposes.”
Ominis’s lips brushed against yours almost tentatively before he leaned in to interlock them. His heat sank into your body as he held you firmly against his chest. You snaked your arms up behind his neck as you kissed him back. Being held by Ominis – and kissed by him – felt right. You wanted to stay wrapped in his arms forever. If you could’ve, you would have fused into him so you never had to be apart again.
You didn’t know how long it was before Ominis broke the kiss, but you knew it was too soon. “I still have to return the favour for you helping me with potions,” he said.
“Yes, right. The herbology,” you replied, still breathless from the kiss. You had forgotten about those bloody shrubs altogether.
“Actually, I was thinking we should work on divination, instead,” he said innocently, but there was a hint of a smirk on his lips.
You arched a brow at him. “Oh?” you asked. “Are you even taking divination?”
“No. I can’t exactly read tea leaves or look in a crystal ball,” he stated. The smirk spread on his lips. “But if I could, I’d see me in your future.”
You laughed. “You’ve been spending too much time with Sebastian,” you chided. “His terrible jokes are rubbing off on you.”
“You’re absolutely right, darling!” he said with a false gravity to the words. “I’d like to fix that as soon as possible by spending more time with you, instead.”
“I’d like that,” you said, unable to stop beaming at him.
“Me, too. Especially if it involves kissing you again,” he said.
You blushed. “I think that could be arranged,” you replied.

Day 5: Cauldron

“Oh, figures…”
Man oh man, I did not think I would make it in time! I am sleepy but it was worth it. This is probably the ‘loosest’ drawing so far but it’s super cute to me, all the same.
What do you think they smell, hm? 🤭✨

The twin swap pt. 2
Summery: In an attempt to prank your twin brother James, you suddently find yourself in a situation where you can no longer ignore your feelings for your brothers best friend.
A/n: I am so honored over the feedback i've recived with pt. 1 of this story, thank you guys so much! I hope this will live up to it, we have some more pining in this, setting up the plot for the finale in pt. 3🫶🏻
☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆♡☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆
By breakfast time you were positivly exhausted.
The polyjuice potion wore off around midnight, which unfortunently meant you had to tolerate James for half an hour before you could finally go sleep in your own bed, only to be woken up by your alarm.
A loud groan escapes you as the sun shines through the gap in your curtains, coloring the room in a slight tint of red.
Your eyes slowly adjusting to the room, it takes a few seconds to notice the girls already have left your dorm, most likely making their way to the great hall.
The tranquillity of sleep parts from your mind, as the memories from last night make themselves clear. You have absolutely no idea how much of a mess James have made, but maybe theres a slight chance that none of them remember-
Wait, scratch that
At the foot of your bed with a little note adorned with a hand drawn heart, lays a neatly folded pad which makes you start mentally cursing out your brother.
Judging from the writting it's definitely from Lily.
You can't help but smile, while letting out a sigh. Lily is goodness itself, and if you were being honest, the thought of having her as your sister in law was terrific. But that was all up to your brother, and judging from last night, it definitely wouldn't happen soon.
You drag yourself to go brush your hair in front of the mirror, hanging off the wall next to Marlene's bed opposite yours. You finish it off with your usual lavender oil to slick down any stray hairs.
Then your mind goes to Sirius.
You had done a wonderfull job so far ignoring your feelings, but seeing him in such an intimate state last night, kickstarted something in you.
Your group is doing their usual morning routine. The brown jumper Remus had lended to you in third year was keeping you warm and toasty, as you plopped down on your usual spot between James and Peter. The chatter was boringly normal, moving from topics of classes, to turning Gilderoys hair into a birdnest, Sirius' loud laugh ecchoing off the tall walls of the great hall.
You added your usual ridiculous amount of strawberry jam to your piece of toast, keeping your head down. What you failed to notice was Remus' soft glance at you, or Sirius' hands fidgeting under the table and how his voice is even more rushed and high pitched than usual.
After about ten minutes of silently observing your friends conversation, Peter turns to you.
"You ready for potions class?" He smiles at you, which you gladly return, nodding your head, lips already parting to answer the blond boy.
"Oh, born ready, I can't wait to see what potion is next on the curriculum" You giggle, remembering two days ago when you and Peter almost blew up the cauldron by adding too much powdered moonstone.
Slughorn being anything but impressed.
Potions class should be a good distraction, needing to think about something else than-
"Oi, Sirius is today Quidditch pratice?" James radiates the same engergy as a small child being let loose in Honeydukes. Your heart skips a beat when you look over to see Sirius' attention on you, him yet having had the chance to answer your brothers question.
It would be almost impossible to notice the way his pupils expand, taking in the sight of you, and how they go back to nomal as he turns his attention back to James.
Almost impossible.
The bell rings sending vibrations through your ears, making you close your eyes. The courtyard had been beautifully covered in snow this morning, only to start melting by first period.
You and Lily have been chatting, sitting on the ledge of the fountain. You try your best at casual conversation, yet your mind wonders to Sirius, as if it haven't done enough damage yet to your lovestruck heart.
"Y/n? Hello? Did you hear me?" Lily's voice snaps you back, as you open your eyes. "Yes, or actually no" a sigh escapes your lips. "Im sorry Lils what were you saying?" You admit, lifting your bag up to rest on your shoulder, as the two of you start walking inside the castle.
"Oh, I just asked you if James is feeling better today, he took quite a tumble last night after fainting" the smugness in her voice goes unnoticed as you look at her fair features, completely puzzled.
"What do you mean, James didn't... oh.. oh" your movements halt, planting your feet to the ground, the numbness in your limps following shortly as you realize what she means, as she is still looking at you, eyebrow raised and a grin adorning her face.
You swear she can be just as devious as the rest of your friendgroup.
After a few skips of silence you grap her hand pulling her towards an empty part of the hall, away from prying ears.
"Ofcourse I knew it was James" Lily stated confidently, taking your silence as a hint to keep talking.
"figured it out just around the time he hit the floor, but today being the first day he wouldn't look me in the eyes confirmed it for me " she grins.
You cover your face groaning.
"Yeah, he did tell me about that. Lils, I am so sorry, it was supposed to be a prank, and it got way out of hand"
"Its okay y/n, I actually found it rather adorable. I mean, not the whole bra incident, but how easy it was to talk to him" she pointed a finger at you changing her demenor, looking stearn "still, it was a very bad idea"
A grimace lands on your features, while your head lightly bows down.
It's almost like getting scolded by your mother.
"But it made me think, maybe James actually isn't that bad" the look in her eyes tells you everything you need to know. James might actually have his chance sooner than later, you think.
However, instead of actually verbalizing your contentment, you go for making a fake gagnoice, making lily giggle.
"Don't tell him until we graduate.. he's gonna be bloody unbearable" a smirk forming on your lips, silently rooting for your twin happiness.
Speaking of the devil.
"Don't tell who what until we graduate?" James stops right behind you, swinging his arm over your shoulder, sending a signature wink Lily's way.
"I think they're talking about you Prongs" Peter teases, as you all walk on towards Slughorns class. James responds to Peter by flicking his hand over his heart dramaticly.
"What are you talking about Peter, I am delightful, I could never be annoying, right y/n/n?"
The best you can do in the moment is roll your eyes.
Ofcourse Lily notices the way your breath gets caught at the sight of the black haired boy, who's catching up his pace next to you.
The boy who's looking at you with such carefulness and a soft smile, a stark contrast to the usual smirk plastered on his face in your presence.
As he smiles at you, Lily swears to Godrick you almost looks like you're gonna fold, making her giggle, you are so similiar to James it's honestly adorable.
Class has begun and you're sitting next to Peter, carefully stiring the fickle potion. When Slughorn starts the class out with anouncing you'll be brewing Amortentia, your heart almost stops.
Here goes not thinking about Sirius.
James and Remus are sitting next to you two, Sirius and Lily are seated a few tables away, in the part of the classroom where Slughorn likes to keep his favorite students.
Which luckly means theres no attention on you right now.
The clink of the spoon being dropped spooks Peter as you let go and stand up, sending a quick look Slughorns way to make sure you avoid causing a scene.
"Jamie, can I talk to you for a second?" The qusetion itself is just a formally as you're already dragging him off towards the shelves, before the poor boy has a chance to react.
"Lily knows, but she's not mad, and I think you have a very real chance of finally wooing her you oaf, so don't screw it up" your sentence is quick and hushed, and it sends James through five very different stages of emotions, from horrified to beaming.
"You really think so?" He asks dreamily, as his eyesight is locked in on the red headed girl. You smack him with your notebook, to bring back his attention. "Attention please" you sigh looking around, before continuing. "Has the boys figured anything out?"
"Oh no you're good, everything is perfect.. much like Lily"
Great, now James is broken, theres no use trying to get anymore information out of him, so you settle on smacking him once more for good measure before sitting down next to Peter again.
About an hour passes when most of you are finished with the potion, and Slughorn is asking random students to check their potion is working.
Your eyes snap up when he mentions Sirius and Lily.
"Alright, mr. Black, miss. Evans, because you two have brewed the most successful Amortensia, I would like for you to test it out and tell me what you both smell"
Lily starts out first, explaining the way she smells parchment, flowers, cinnamon and ... broom polish?
You know your sentiments are shared, when you see James' grip on the table, wondering if his hummingbird heart can take this much excitement.
"Very good miss Evans, now mr. Black your turn"
And just like that suddently all of your attention is going to Sirius, who looks so divine with his hair tired up in a bun, that one piece sticking out framing his face perfectly, and- wait why does he look nervous?
"Smoke, motor oil ofcourse" he earns a few chuckles from the class, before his eyes flicker to meet yours and time stands still.
"... lavender and strawberry jam"
Now it's your turn to grip the table. Remus looks your way trying to conceal a smirk, yet his satisfied demenor reflects off of him loud and clear.
The world continues around you, but you're frozen in place under Sirius attention.
This has taken a very unexpected turn.

@jegulus-microfic – Day 12 • Amortentia • wc 312
•••
“Remus, Remus!” Regulus came rushing into the great hall with James trailing behind him. He stopped abruptly, almost making James bump into him. “Help me, I don’t know what I’m supposed to do.” flailing his hands between him and his fluffy-haired shadow.
James put a hand on Regulus’s bicep rubbing gentle circles into it, looking down at how his dark curls sat against sharp cheekbones.
“I don’t see the problem.” Remus replied hesitantly.
“The idiot drank amortentia this morning and won’t leave me alone.” He huffed, brushing off James’s hand and taking a step away just for James to take a step closer again.
James looked dejected and reached out to brush a lose curl behind his boyfriend’s ear, running his finger across the line of his jaw. “Reggie” he whined.
“I’m not sure how to help, Regulus. He’s not acting much different than usual.”
Sirius came running up to them then, ruffling James’s hair and moving to stand next to Remus. “What’s up, why’s Reg here?”
“Pads! Hi! I’ve been with him all morning. He’s been super grumpy but he’s so pretty when he is.” James said excitedly, stroking the side the younger’s face which earned him a groan from Sirius.
Ignoring his brother’s presence and the show of affection from his doe-eyed boyfriend, Regulus turned back to Remus. “I can’t put up with this all day. Please just help me.”
“Help with what?” Sirius questioned, looking between the two of them.
Regulus let out a loud whine of frustration, “What is wrong with you two!”
“James supposedly drank amortentia.” Remus told Sirius.
Sirius looked wide eyed at James now. “Really Prongs? I thought people started going crazy when they have it? You seem fine.”
“What are you talking about! He’s acting like a crazy lovesick puppy!” Regulus shouted.
“Yeah… that’s pretty much the norm for him when you’re around, Reg.”
