AHS: Double Feature
Now, that I have finally seen it, I think that the main problem of “AHS Double Feature” is that “Red Tide” was actually good but either too short or too long (depending on what they actually wanted with it) while “Death Valley” showcased a lot of great ideas but did end up letting down everyone. I was kind of hoping the two parts would work with each other (not so much cross over, that was out of the question anyways, I guess), but they never really connected, I mean I guess the point of Episode 10 was brought home mainly by “Red Tide” (humans suck), but still the two parts did not really enhance each other. Personally I would have preferred  two shorter seasons instead of two different stories in one season, which would have given “Death Valley” more space to breath (and work) and “Red Tide” some time for refinement, which would have made it even better.
So, yeah, Covid did bring about strange stuff in all the shows I guess.
But in conclusion I am glad NYC is back to the old format of a story per season.

Well, I guess I'm about to cement myself in the minority here... But, I actually thoroughly enjoyed American Horror Story Death Valley! (Part 2 of Double Feature).
From what I can tell, most didn't like it. And probably for a lot of the reasons I actually did like it.
It was campy and cheesy, and about as cliche a story about aliens could be. All the way down to the way they looked, the creepy atmospheric music, all of it. It's nothing we haven't seen before. But I feel like it was done in a tongue in cheek kinda way.
Without giving anything away really, I'll just say that the giant history buff in me LOVED all of the real-life historical figures and situations. I loved the spin they put on everything. And I loved how many American conspiracy theories from our past (including mysterious disappearances, deaths, etc) were put into this. Every new thing they touched on made my heart smile! ( :
I'm a sucker for black & white and I felt it was the perfect choice for all of the flashbacks scenes as well.
My only real criticism of it was the present day stuff. Luckily, it wasn't in the story much. But it just felt very ok to me. And I didn't care much for any of those characters. Which means I also wasn't too fond of the finale.
But all in all, I really enjoyed this part and the season as a whole! I loved loved Red Tide (aside from the finale). And I strongly liked Death Valley, despite worrying I'd hate it going into it. I think I'd rank this season maybe midway out of the seasons. There are certainly some I liked a whole lot less 🤷🏻‍♀️

I love ahs because it's like watching a theatre play on television. They just change a little bit the characterization of an actor/actress and you have to assume that what you are seeing now is a completely different character and immerse yourself in a universe where everyone lacks facial recognition memory and be like " who is that bitch?"

Experimentations // Valiant Thor
Tumblr media
WARNINGS: tentacles, non consensual, breeding, alien sex (it’s just nasty stuff to forewarn you)
In this story just pretend that Valiant is part alien. I know in the show he’s a robot or whatever, but for the sake of this he isn’t.
He just seemed to appear one day out of thin air, and in a way he did. You never spoke to Valiant up until today, when the mysterious man had approached you.
You’d been promoted to work on this new project which was called ‘Area 51.’ If you could even call it a promotion. The ones in charge of the organization barely told you anything about what went on inside of there, deeming is ‘confidential.’ God forbid you talk back, or you’d lose your job.
You worked lower down on the hierarchy, driving as transportation, bringing people to and from the large building, as well as security. It was stupid that nobody bothered giving you a gun, but you had a taser tucked away in your pocket just in case something were to go array. The real security were the men wearing heavy duty armor scattered about the property.
Valiant had asked to speak with you in private, which struck you as odd considering the two of you had never spoken up until now. Alas, you agreed since he was your superior.
“Am I even allowed in here?”
You’d asked, following the man through the entrance and hallways of the place. To be fair, if you weren’t allowed, somebody would have stopped you from proceeding further by now.
He didn’t respond, instead, leading you to a door which he opened and ushered you inside.
“Take a seat, we may be a while.”
You heard his voice, walking into the room as you took a seat on one of the many chairs in the room. It was surprisingly homey in there, aside from the blinding colors of white on white plastered on everything.
The man locked the door behind you two, taking a seat in front of you on one of the chairs. Up until now you hadn’t seen him up close, but you had to admit that he was quite attractive. His eyes were entrancing and you found yourself getting lost in them. They didn’t seem human. He didn’t seem human…
“Can I get you anything? Coffee, water…?”
You shook your head no, but thanked him for the offer.
“My name is Valiant Thor, but you can call me Val. This isn’t technically a formal meeting.”
He introduced himself, lips curling into an uncanny smirk. He was attractive, yes, but there was something that wasn’t right about him.
“I’m-“
“Y/n. I should know the names of my colleagues.”
Val cut you off. It was weird he referred to you as his colleague since he never paid much attention to you. It wasn’t like you held it against him or anything, it’s just that he worked on the inside and you didn’t.
“Mhm. May I ask what the meaning of this is, Val?”
You didn’t want to come off as rude, but you were growing anxious not knowing what you were doing in this man’s office, and wanted to cut to the chase.
“Yes, of course. To get right down to business, I was hoping you could provide me with some information… something that could stay just between the two of us. See, I know that you escort some pretty important people, Y/n. People that run the country.”
There was silence for a few moments. Val sat completely straight and proper, not seeming to show much emotion in his words, nor his expression.
“What kind of information?”
He hesitated for a moment before answering.
“If I’m being transparent with you, I don’t get told much. Of course I help run this operation, but I know that people talk… have you heard anything of importance, Y/n…?”
He leaned in a bit, it was subtle but you caught the movement. Looking down at yourself, you lost yourself in a train of thought.
There wasn’t much that you’d overheard, but you knew that Valiant was different from you. Area 51 wasn’t something the public really knew about at this point, and something about new technology; using it against ‘them’ whoever they were supposed to be… But if you told him that you knew this, it was putting your job on the line. Was it worth it to tell this man what you knew?
“Y/n… if there’s something you know, you can tell me.”
Valiant reassured you. You continued to weigh out the options, because maybe Val was only here to help. You’d want to know information if someone was keeping it from you too…
———————————
Everything was so bright when you opened your eyes, so much so that you had to squint before they fully adjusted to the room.
You instinctively go to stand up, only to realize you were being held down. Glancing down at your body, you see that you’re completely naked, strapped down to a cold, hard metal table. Where were you? What the hell was happening?
“Hello?! Someone help me!” You cry out. You sounded pathetic, but you didn’t care, you just wanted out of here. Other than that the room was dark, and you couldn’t see much of it because there was a big bright light shining down above you, obstructing your view of the rest of the room. And since you were lying down, you couldn’t move your head around much.
“Y/n, you’re finally awake.” A familiar voice. A face comes into view on your left hand side.
“Val… Val thank god, you can help me out of here… someone… someone brought me here and tied me down.” You wriggle around a bit beneath the restraints, further proving your point that they wouldn’t budge and you were trapped.
“Leave? You want to leave this soon? We haven’t even started the experiment.”
“Experiment, what experiment?”
“Well we want to see what would happen if my kind and your kind were to try and reproduce.”
Chills tickled your spine as he spoke. So he wasn’t human… then what was he? Your heart sped up anxiously, terrified of what was about to happen to you.
“Please try and relax, your struggle will only make it more painful.” He traced his hand down your arm, down to your thigh. If he was human you might actually be enjoying this, but this wasn’t right at all.
“Please, no!” You beg, thrashing around. “Nobody can hear you… this is strictly between you… and me.” He walked around to your other side, whispering the words in your ear.
If you could even just break out of the restraints for a moment, you could try and fight back. But whoever had put them on you definitely knew what they were doing.
And just like that, he was out of your sight again. And that’s when you felt one of the weirdest sensations you’d ever felt before in your life. Something cold and slimy slid up your leg, trailing across your inner thighs. Desperately, you tried to pry your head down to see what was happening but it was physically impossible.
“No!!” You protest, feeling whatever it was getting dangerously close to your entrance. Your legs had been restrained to a point where they were forcefully spread open.
Just as you feared, the thing slowly started to enter you, unwanted arousal causing you to shiver in delight. It was so cold, and felt like it had lube on it, but you knew that it wasn’t lubricant… it was some sort of slime.
“No, no… Val, please…” you moaned, feeling it get deeper and deeper inside of you. It didn’t feel quite like dick, it was a different sensation all together.
“Just relax…” you could hear his voice once more, strangely close by which led you to believe that whatever was inside of you right now was a part of him.
You felt two more slide around your thighs, chilling you to the core. These ones were close enough to where you could look at them which only made you scream in terror. They looked like grey tentacles, as if they had minds of their own.
The ones on your thighs tightened a bit, while the one inside of you twitched, causing it to hit your clit. You were close to orgasming as much as you hated to admit it. A loud moan left your lips.
“Good girl… don’t resist… let yourself climax while I plant my seed in you.” Val spoke, trying to comfort you. But he didn’t, your eyes only widened in horror when you realized you were about to be pregnant with his baby or whatever it was.
“Please, I’ll do anything!!” You continued to plead, struggling against the tentacles. You were trying to hold back, but when the one inside you reached a point you didn’t know any length could reach, a wave of pleasure and pain passed over you and you reached your climax.
Loud whines escaped your mouth, eyes rolling to the back of your head. Tears formed in your eyes at the realization of what was happening, but just as quickly as it started, it was over. The tentacles retreated back to his body, leaving cum and slime along your thighs and entrance, clit throbbing as you came down off of the high.
Val came into sight once again, his eyes lifeless and a glowing white color. “Thank you for cooperating with me, Y/n…”
———————————
“Y/n…? What do you know?”
You hear Valiant’s voice, your head snapping up to his.
“You look like you’ve seen a ghost… are you going to tell me what you’ve heard?”
Had that entire thing been fake? Did you imagine that? The expression on his face led you to believe that it was a threat… of what would happen if you wouldn’t do exactly what he asked of you.
Your brain could be a bitch sometimes…

AHS: DEATH VALLEY ⇢ 10x07 | TAKE ME TO YOUR LEADER

I just finished AHS 10 (late to the party, as always) and I must say, I really enjoyed it! Especially after season 8 and 9, it felt very refreshing.
I have split opinions about the fact that it was essentially two shorter seasons in one. On the one side, it doesn’t really make sense why they suddenly did that as it never occured in the show before. They didn’t even split the amount of episodes equally... It just doesn’t feel right. On the other side, the storylines didn’t get so muddled because they got less episodes than in previous seasons. At the same time, they were longer than in American Horror Stories, so they didn’t feel as random either. That was nice.
I enjoyed the themes and the setting of Red Tide very much. It was creative and asthetically pleasing, the storyline about the pills was an interesting concept. I loved how, in my interpretation, it dealt with the very stereotypical belief of how artists don’t become great artists due to working and editing, but that it’s about being a genius and you have to channel that inner genius - via the pills in this case.
Death Valley was fun, but not ground-breaking. I heard other people say that it’s a shame that it wasn’t tied to Asylum more and I agree on that.
I think the two parts of the season should have had a connection as well. Then it wouldn’t have felt so random that they were put together.
But yeah, overall I really liked the season. It wasn’t the best and the final episodes didn’t do the best job at wrapping things up (as always), but overall so much better than Apocalypse and 1984. Looking forward to watching season 11 now!

(Primarily Horror) Audio Drama & Podcast Master List
Thanks for all the suggestions everyone! I'm in the midst of a pretty big and complicated fiber arts project at the moment, so I really needed the hours upon hours of listening material. I thought it might be nice to list everything that has been suggested (including what I myself listed) in case others are looking for new podcasts and want a quick reference.

Red - Haven't truly hated anything just yet but this is here just in case
Purple - Currently listening
Original post under the Orange Explanations under the cut.
Not For Me, Maybe For You
This is the section for every podcast I haven't cared for, but for reasons that may actually be points of appeal to other people. I typically enjoy immersive storytelling with a diverse cast of primarily adult characters, and I have trouble engaging with stories that could easily be someone reading or acting out an audiobook. None of this means the storytelling isn't good or doesn't deserve your attention!
There may be other reasons a story isn't for me, but if you wish to know, message me to learn.
Old Gods of Appalacia
Do you want to feel like you're sitting around a fire, listening to an older gentleman recount fables and legends from the Appalacian woods? This podcast features antlered gods and witchy women in the context of early American settlements and superstition.
Eeler's Choice
Eeler's Choice takes place in an alternative 1800s setting, in a world where magical, celestial eels are hunted for profit to benefit the rich. It's dangerous and unethical work - eeler's make decent money as far as fishermen go, but many ships never return. This maritime story is told through both acting and narration, switching perspectives as it follows several precocious young protagonists who learn their relationship to the powers that govern the sea, the questionable ethics of eeling, and what they're going to do about it.
Twigs & Hearts
Campers have been going missing...and those who set out to find them often disappear just as quickly. The fair folk can be mischievous lot, and they like to play with the lives of humans. When her crush disappears in the woods, one teen girl sets out with a friend to find them, determined to take every precaution and never lower her guard. But will she be able to trust her own perception long enough to save anyone? Give this scrappy indie production a try and find out.
-----
Horror Audio Drama Recommendations?
Or adjacent. I enjoy nuanced explorations of the complexity of what it means to be human and the extent of forgiveness, the complexity of morality, acceptance of the strange and unsettling, ideally with a supernatural element, bonus points if there is a ritual component.
My favorites ranked so far:
1. Malevolent
2. The Magnus Archives
3. Wolf 359
4. Sherlock & Co (one of these things is not like the others)
5. Camp Here & There
6. Archive 81 (favorite to least favorite seasons: 3,1,2)
