How could you translate Katniss' internal thoughts to screen?
If you become the screenwriter for the new adaptation, what would you do?
Are there any movies or tv series which have good example of this type of narration?
Thank you 😊
@curiousnonny
Ahhhh that's a question that would take me a lot of time to analyze because there are many ways to translate internal thoughts into the screen. Some examples are:
Voice Over - Even though it's a cliché if its well used it's more than justified Shawshank Redemption(1994), Outlander(2014).
Outside Narrator - Amelie(2001)
Breaking the fourth Wall - The Office(2005-2013), Woody Allen movies, The Emperor's new groove(2000).
A musical - Moulin Rogue(2001), The greatest Show Man(2017).
A dream sequence - Like Revenge of the Sith(2005), Catching Fire(2013) and Mockingjay part 1(2014).
The use of a prop like a letter or diary - Narnia: The voyage of the dawn treader(2010), Easy a(2010) with recording video prop.
A visual Montage for thought - Like in Sherlock(2010-2017).
I would translate her thoughts using voice-over in the present tense or a visual montage.
If I become a screenwriter for tbosas I would use a second character talking their mind, specific frames and if necessary use a prop of a letter like used in the third part of the book.
The movies and shows above are great examples ;)

I actually think using the paso as a ChRS is more restrictive than just using it as a set rhythm dance style. Because it forces teams to shoehorn a piece of music into a dance that might otherwise not have suited it. How are you gonna do something like Titanic or Amelie or Pride and Prejudice or whatever without compromising the storytelling vision to shove an unrelated paso in there? Because it’s not just a case of using some fast dramatic music, paso as with all Latin styles has a particular rhythm. So we’ll just get Zorro or Strictly Ballroom or Moulin Rouge ad nauseum because there’s no other way to come up with something coherent. The 80s theme suffered big time for this with the Silver Samba and very few teams managed to come up with something that made sense. But if you set ‘Paso’ as a rhythm dance, it can be combined with Rumba, Flamenco, Tango etc and then you’ve got the whole world of Spanish music to explore without being inauthentic or having to shove together disjointed parts of soundtracks for the sake of requirements.
if they're doing the Paso for the ChRS, i imagine it'll be similar to the Silver Samba in that very few teams made one that looked Latin in the least. it's a frankenstein of an element for sure, but i think we'd see it skated to much more than Spanish themed music
Novice dance this season has the Paso as one of their set dances, and the IAMO baby team skated it to Another One Bites the Dust, and that was with the actual pattern. if the RD takes the Paso steps but not the style or pattern, they just need music in a square time with an insistent beat
i'd love if they went back to authentic patterns and styles, but from the vibe coming from the ISU ice dance committee i'd be surprised if they don't lean into this hybrid RD again

early 00s movies that are specifically before 9/11 have this underlying vibe of optimism that is almost surreal 20+ years of “war on terror” and anti-muslim sentiment and fear mongering and extreme political polarization later
they all have a feeling of like YAY its the new millennium and the world is good and there's no war and the economy is BUMPING and things are great
just kind of that small window of optimism from the 90s and the potential of a new millennium
2001 alone had: legally blonde, moulin rouge!, amelie, royal tenenbaums, princess diaries, knights tale, wet hot american summer, not another teen movie, zoolander, spy kids, rush hour 2, super troopers
all of which have, even if they're not like truly optimistic movies, this weird underlying optimism culture vibe
even oceans 11 which is also 2001 is fully less optimistic but still has this underlying feeling of the world is good even if our personal lives maybe are not
it’s just this like weird time capsule of what the general outlook and feeling could have been in that decade
honestly fascinating from just a culture studies aspect

Ooh it's cool that you got to see Bea at Lolla or Maisie and whoever else! If anything, concerts have gotten more expensive than they used to be for me so there have been some I had to pass on too. I have been meaning to listen to the Japanese House album for a while and will soon. I've listened to most of the artists you named and will add the rest to my list too.
Oh I didn't know the Waitress proshot had come out already. Maybe I will check it out. I remember hearing about the Roman Holiday musical but it never went to Broadway or anything so I didn't know too much about it. I just heard the Notebook musical is coming to Broadway in spring so hopefully they've improved it. Those are also such good examples of movies into musicals. I do agree about the cash grabs and like just coming out with or rushing more musicals each year or just making everything a musical just because.
I honestly didn't know what to think of it cuz I didn't even hear about it until recently. I do agree he seemed a little old for her though..I wonder how he will pull off the part. But it at least has potential with the actors since I like them. I actually didn't know there was going to be two..but I remember hearing that Florence Welch was working on the music I think? Or is that the same thing? It could be cool and kinda reminds me of the same vibes as The Wild Party. I never actually read the book..but I remember liking the movie and how glam it was..so the sets could be similar..or have potential. The music might be similar to an older 50s musical or idk. Maybe it would be similar to Moulin Rouge too. I would be pretty excited for it though anyway I think! I would love to hear more about there being two versions too since I didn't know that.
i was telling one of my best friends that it's very unlikely i'll do another music festival soon (although that same friend wants to do a music festival at some point, so i'll probably go with her just so she has someone to go with) because while i had a blast seeing so many people (and was able to justify the cost that way), it was just ... too peopley and too hot etc etc. for my liking! but i love her, and i'll do anything for her, including braving crowds and the heat again haha. glad i did it though, just for the sake of having done one, and for seeing that many people i wouldn't have gotten to see otherwise! and i actually haven't really been a big concert person up until this year, but that's what i've been hearing, unfortunately :( and eeee! i hope you like them!! i'd love to hear your thoughts on their music later 🤍 roman holiday is one of my favorite, favorite movies of all time, so i was super excited for the musical and as much as i love it, it is definitely not broadway ready (and i don't think it ever will be, unless they do an original score). and yes!! here's hoping they reworked the notebook so it's stronger! it's been about a year since it did the tryout, so plenty of time to have worked on it! yes! so there's the gatsby musical by kait kerrigan, jason howland and nathan tysen that's premiering at paper mill playhouse — you might know of kerrigan from kerrigan-lowdermilk (sam brown/the mad ones), howland from little women, and tysen from amelie and tuck everlasting — and that's the one that jerjor and eva are in! i love mad ones (and just kerrigan-lowdermilk's songs in general), and really enjoyed little women, amelie and tuck, so i'm really excited to see what becomes of it! and then the one that florence welch is involved with is the one premiering at the ART in boston! i am just so so excited to see what happens with both, and i think there are a lot of directions they could go in! not to mention, the set and staging — i'm thinking of how they can play with lighting (green light) already and i am just soooo excited. and i just thought of wildhorn & murphy's scott & zelda musical that drew gehling and laura michelle kelly sang songs from too (i have/had audio ... somewhere, i think, and i remember liking what i listened to, but might've lost it when i switched computers). there's so much to play with, and i just think it's really exciting! and now i want to do a gatsby reread!!

Born in France Bao He was adopted by the Fitzroy family and given the name Manon. Years later, Amelie and Henri noticed their new child had some peculiar behaviors. She was producing flames at random. Henri was quick to assume it witchcraft. Based off letters from Bao He’s birth mother, a woman named Yue, it was far from it. On the night of Manon’s wedding, a fire erupted. The only survivor Manon.
Modern times, Bao He has declared themself dead. They’ve gone through 2 centuries of life, and has constantly redone her identity. Some have been eras of self discovery, the time he became a Buddhist nun for instance. Others have been to do what she can to survive, their few times she’s identified as Vivienne Liason at the Moulin Rouge. This current one goes by a familiar name, once again taking on the Fitzroy name. He’s decided that in this life she will be a Gothic Fashion designer. They meet a young woman named Marissa Spicer, a cute American fashion designer who recognizes Manon’s works because of her gothic brother. For a moment He decides she can’t imagine a life without Marissa and they get married. Through her in law she finally meets her birth father, but is he everything she imagined he’d be?
