“I think I’m falling in love with you” + kaimelia <33334
Stressed. She was over the top stressed, balancing child care with Link, who refuses to make it easier for them. Who refuses to even look at her, his heart was broken as was hers but she stopped trying, stopped trying to explain the thoughts in her head. He has given up too. Lately, he had been switching his days on her last minute, is late to pick him up, or never seems to have his phone on him when something comes up.
Or he’ll page anybody else in neuro and he leaves the room when she enters.
This week was busy, the Parkinsons trial was making huge progress— it was successful. She had back to back surgeries when she was in Seattle, and on her off days she was flying to Minnesota. Finding childcare was difficult, most days Link was working, or, he was no where to be found.
He was a great father, never a doubt in mind, but his schedule never lined up with hers. Twice this week she had no one to watch Scout, and today was one of those days.
Scout was sat in his stroller, a bag slipping off of her shoulder and her face was bare. Hair looked like it hadn’t been brushed yet and she was rushing into the lab, her breath heavy.
“I’m here,” she muttered. Meredith’s eyes met hers, eyebrows raised. “I’m here.”
“With Scout?”
“Link wasn’t returning my calls,” she sighed. “Our schedules never seem to be lining up. Plus, Scout and I are overdue for some quality time.” She dropped her bags onto a counter, running a hand down her face.
“You look exhausted.” Meredith pointed out. “Have you slept?”
“Not a whole lot.” She said while leaning down in front of her son, placing a warm blanket on top of him. “Was at the hospital late last night. A trauma came in.”
“Well, I was just about to grab some lunch,” Meredith said. “Why don’t I take him for a bit?”
“You would be a life saviour, thank you.” She nodded, grabbing Scout’s belongings, throwing the bag over her shoulder before she was pushing the stroller out of the lab.
Sighing, she sat on one of the chairs, opening her books with all of her written notes. They were so close, so close to a breakthrough. David’s emergent surgery had delayed them, and although they wished they could have done it sooner, it just gave them more time to find new information. She was confident. They were all confident.
They might have cured Parkinsons disease.
The thought of curing a neurodegenerative disorder gave her a high, a high that she had been chasing her whole life. A type of high that she didn’t even feel after cutting into someones brain and removing a tumour, all of the risky and almost impossible surgeries that she had succeeded in, didn’t amount to the way she felt.
A hand was softly brushing her back, a styrofoam coffee cup being placed in front of her. “Coffee?” The voice came from Kai, who was sitting in the chair next to her. “I ran into Meredith, she told me you were exhausted.”
“Hm,” Amelia hummed, pulling the cup up to her lips. “You are the best, thank you.”
“Your son,” Kai spoke. “Scout?”
Amelia’s eyes met theirs, a smile playing at their lips. “You met him? I was hoping I’d be the one-“
“Kind of.” Kai interrupted. “He was asleep. You can properly introduce us later.”
“You never told me why the father isn’t around.” Kai was moving their chair closer to her. “You’re not married. So what happened?”
There was prolonged sigh, and Amelia’s fingers were running along the rim of the coffee cup. Her eyes never looked up. Kai could see her mind wandering, the way her teeth chewed on her bottom lip, something Kai noticed that Amelia had a habit in doing.
She inhaled a deep breath through her nose before exhaling through her mouth before her eyes were finally glancing up to met theirs. “I love Scout,” she started. Another sigh. “I love him more than I’ve ever loved anything.” Her eyes were diverting away again.
“But… the kids, the family, the big dream— it was never mine.” She sounded sad, like her voice was heavy. “It wasn’t his either— until Mer got sick and suddenly we went from having one kid to four, and,” Her voice was unsteady, an uncertainity in her voice — like she was nervous to say more.
“I’m an addict.” It was blunt but Kai didn’t push for more information.
“And during the pandemic, it was hard to attend meetings regularly on top of looking after three kids with a new born. It wasn’t the lifestyle I wanted and Link wanted more, he wanted the big family and the more I imagined that life, the more I felt myself slipping. I need to focus on myself and more kids, marriage, that would be something that would stop me from being able to take care of myself. Knowing all of this information, and despite me saying no, he still proposed. He still means a lot to me, but we want different things and I’m trying to find peace with that.”
Kai was quiet for a moment, like they were processing everything deeply and it was like Amelia could see the gears in their head turning. And before they could think of the right thing to say—- the best thing, Amelia started again.
“I used to want that life. There was a man I loved named Ryan and we were both addicts.” Her breath was shaky. Kai reached a hand forward to place on top of hers for comfort. Their hand was soft and warm. “We planned a life together. Two boys and two girls with the big wedding. But, he died and ever since then I have decided to focus on keeping myself sane, and the thought of marriage and children is out the window.”
Then, gently, they were wrapping their arms around her waist from behind while resting their chin on the top of her head. Amelia leaned back into their touch, their grip only tightening.
“Shepherd,” their voice was soft; comforting. “You don’t need to explain yourself to him. You said no. That’s a good enough answer and if he fails to understand that, that reflects on him and not you.” A kiss was pressed against her neck. A gentle kiss. They were always so delicate with her.
“I didn’t expect this huge explanation either.” A hand was brushing her hair out of the way. “I’m glad you could trust me.”
“I think I’m falling in love with you.” That sentence made her breath catch in her throat and her heartbeat quicken. It felt like her heart dropped to the pits of her stomach and her cheeks got hot. “You amaze me, Amelia. And this is one more thing to add to the list of reasons why I am.”
“Kai,” Amelia started.
“It’s okay, you don’t need to say it back. I just wanted you to know.”

Stay With Me
Chapter One
I wake to muffled cries. A quick glance at Emmy’s monitor reveals it’s not coming from her. Our sweet baby girl has been sleeping through the night for the past month much to her brother’s relief as their bedrooms are adjacent. I briefly rub the sleep from my eyes and realize the distressed sounds is Owen. He’s laying on his stomach but I can see his frightened face contorted with anxiety. Beads of sweat from his forehead blend in with the tears that escape from his tightly shut eyes. I sit up and start to gently shake him awake, afraid of what he’s dreaming of. Owen doesn’t take too long to jolt awake and sit straight up in record timing. His blue eyes dart back and forth and he’s breathless. I reach out and stroke his face that is sticky from sweat.
“Hey, it’s okay. You’re okay.” I try my best to soothe him. It takes Owen a little bit to be able to form words.
“Bad dream. I’m fine. Go back to sleep please.”
I softly smile at him and squeeze his hand. His T-shirt clings to his body from how much he was sweating.
“I can’t go back to sleep until I know you’re okay so why don’t you tell me what all of that was about?”
“I can’t talk about it, Amelia. It’s scary and traumatic. I don’t want to go there, especially not with you. I couldn’t take it if you started to think of me the way others have.”
I raise my eyebrows, feeling taken back. There is only one thing he has remained tight lipped about — his time in the army.
“Owen, I’m your wife. The wife that has had her fair share of dark and scary things. I can’t help you through it if I don’t know what is torturing you in your sleep. You married a recovering addict and alcoholic with chronic mommy and daddy issues. I have no room to judge.”
Owen peered over at the clock on his nightstand. It’s just after two in the morning.
“It’s late and we have a baby that will be up in a few hours. I swear I’ll be okay. I’m going to jump in the shower and rinse off really quick. I feel disgusting.”
“Owen, please just tell me what it was about. I can handle whatever it is.”
He pinched the bridge of his nose and sighed heavily.
“Drop it for Christ’s sake. I don’t need to talk about it. I’m sorry for waking you up.”
My stomach started to form knots so I just gave his hand another squeeze.
“Okay, I’ll change the sheets then come check on you.”
I watched him walk away while my heart sank. His normal 5’11” self from now looked similar to my 5’3” frame purely from how mentally exhausted he looked.
—————————————————————————
It’s not often that I have such vivid flashbacks to my time served in the army, especially not about the explosion. I’m not sure how much time has passed when Amelia comes in and starts the water. I only notice her briefly, unable to tear my eyes away from my reflection in the mirror. Sometimes it’s hard to see why Amelia is attracted to me when I look like I do right now. There’s huge bags under my eyes, skin abnormally pale, and my hair is slicked against my head from the sweat. Another moment or two passes by the time I feel my wife’s petite arms envelope my abdomen.
“Bath water is ready. I know you said you wanted a shower but I wanted to join you. It’ll also help you to soak your tense muscles.”
I couldn’t keep a sheepish smile from escaping.
“Amelia, I don’t know what I’ve done to deserve you but I sure am glad I have you. I didn’t mean to be so curt with you earlier. It’s hard.”
Her small hands cupped my face and she pulled me in for a soft kiss which I happily reciprocated. Things didn’t seem to be so bad when she was by my side.
“I just want you to be okay. Leo, Emma, and I need you here both mentally and physically.”
I kissed her again and let my lips linger against hers.
“I’m right here. You and the kids can’t get rid of me that easy.”
She pulls me by the hand over to the tub and takes her own sleep shirt off while I peel my sweat drenched T-shirt and pajama pants off. She gets in first and ushers me to get in front her which is different for us. Usually she curls up in my arms but I’m happy to have her hold me for once. If only I could protect her from the horrors of my past.
—————————————————————————
Owen didn’t say much in the bathtub but it was still nice to just have him lay there with me. It’s not too often we get so much one on one time with each other because Leo or Emma needs one or both of us.
Once we were dried off and back in our freshly made bed, I pulled him to me and let him rest his head on my chest. His ginger curls still damp from the water smelt like his lemon and sandalwood soap.
“Owen, please remember you can tell me anything. I just want to know what scared you so much.”
He sighed heavily but tightened his arms around me.
“It’s not easy for me to talk about… I don’t want it to change what you think about me. It’s not a light story.”
“I figured as much. There isn’t anything you could tell me that would change what I think about you. I love you. You’re my husband and my smoking hot baby daddy.”
Owen let out a sarcastic chuckle which made me giggle. At least I could still get him to smile even when he’s not wanting to.
“I love you more… Now I’m going to tell you this one time and I really don’t want to elaborate on it… We were on a convoy and hit an IED. I wasn’t hurt too badly but everyone else was subsequently killed. Dan Mooney, who served with me as Colonel, initially lived but his injures were too severe and he succumbed to his injuries only after I had to say a Hail Mary with him and he forced me to take my hand off of the wound on his neck. He bled out right before I was rescued by a helicopter. Now I live my life with immense survivor’s guilt. When I nearly choked Cristina to death, that was because I was triggered merely by the blades on our ceiling fan. Callie Torres was actually the one that got me off of her. I haven’t forgiven myself for that.”
His entire body went rigid as he explained the details which just broke my heart. He had been through so much at Grey Sloan without everything that occurred during his time served.
“You know… whatever higher being out there wanted to keep you alive for a reason. Now look at your life. You’re married to a brilliant neurosurgeon, a father to a five year old son and six month old daughter, head of trauma surgery, and we own a beautiful house and both of our vehicles.”
“I know we’ve been very rich in that sense but it doesn’t make what happened to my platoon okay. My own mother didn’t know I was home from the army for the longest time… Who I was then is different from who I am now. The army changed me overnight.”
I softly kissed the top of his head and wished that I could protect him from the world much like we try to protect Leo and Emma.
“I love who you are now. Your journey makes you who you are. You’re not a bad man, Owen. It’s nothing you could’ve controlled. You weren’t driving and no one knew there would be an IED right in the path. You did what you could with the resources you had in the time that you had.”
Owen looked up at me with huge, watery eyes. I held him as close to me as I could. His facial expression reminded me of Leo’s when he’s in time out.
“Mia, there are times where the pain seems unfathomable. When I get flashbacks or have night terrors, everything feels so raw and recent. How am I supposed to be strong for you and the kids?”
“That’s the thing, my love. You don’t always have to be the strong one. I’ve had my fair share of hard things. We are equals. You’re strong when I can’t be so I can do the same for you.”
Owen’s shaky hand reached up to caress my cheek.
“You are a saint. Let’s try to get some sleep before Emmy needs to nurse again. Just feeling you in the bed helps me feel safe.”
Another kiss on Owen’s head then one on his lips stretched a sweet smile across his face. He looked exhausted but more content by the time he started to doze off. It was a quarter past three in the morning before he was asleep again though I couldn’t sleep. All I could think of was his trauma and what steps we needed to take to get him into some form of counseling. If I can do NA or AA meetings, he could see a PTSD expert.

Homecoming
this is the third chapter of my amelink series. quite long but it’s filled with fluff and a hint of drama at the end. so i hope you enjoy!
/ amelia and her family visits LA.
Part III
•••••••••••••••
it’s a bright sunday morning. Link and Amelia woke up with the light touching their faces, rays coming in through the window blinds made it look like a spotlight. Amelia’s face looked more radiant than ever.
the stunning view put a huge smile on Link’s face, he slowly places his hand on her cheek and runs it down the side of her neck.
“good morning beautiful.” he says.
Amelia smiled back, closes her eyes and held his hand. “good morning. how’s your sleep?” she replied.
“it’s good, i dreamt about you actually.” Link responded.
She opened her eyes. “oh yeah? what’s the dream about? do i look good in it?” Amelia chuckled. she turns her body away from him and wrapped his arms around her.
Link embraced her from the back “of course you do babe.” he said, planting a kiss on her shoulder.
“well, for starters, we’re in LA. at the beach. you were lying on the sand and i was reading a book. you told me to put sunscreen on you and so i did. seconds later, we were making out. then i woke up.”
“i’d say that’s a perfect way to end a dream. you uh... wanna do it now that you’re awake?” Amelia replied. she rolled over and kissed him passionately like it’s the first time.
link pulled down the straps of Amelia’s night gown revealing her soft pale upper bust.
as they were about to take each other’s clothes off, the baby monitor started making noise, a sign that scout is already wide awake. the couple had no choice but to put the idea to rest.
“ahhh. of course.” Amelia rolled her eyes. “every single time. i’ll get him. gonna make us some breakfast too. talk of the town, Amelia Shepherd makes the best waffles.”
Link finds it cute when she speaks in third person. Amelia winked at him and gets out of bed.
“you do. i can eat it everyday.” Link watches as Amelia walks out of the room. he’s so in love with every inch of her that every move she makes is endearing to him.
Amelia approached the door and turned around. “i love you.” she says.
Link glared at her. “i love you too.”
“i’m a lucky girl.” Amelia sighed.
“not as lucky as i am.”
both of them made a pact that they wouldn’t spend a single day without both or one of them telling those three words to the other. as surgeons, they knew that life is too short, that if you have the opportunity to tell someone you love them, you do it. before it’s too late.
•••••••••••••••
“aaahh that smells so good. best waffles ever.” he said, placing his hand on her waist.
Amelia wears this cute white apron that says “i’m a neurosurgeon. okay?” every time she’s cooking. Alex gave it to her as a joke few years ago but she loves it. she says it’s very fitting. her sisters keep making fun of it, asking her if she’s not worried that people might be scared of what they’re gonna eat. but nothing they say can make her give that apron up.
she’s a very sentimental person. Alex became one of her people and keeping that gift is her way of remembering the good times they shared.
“hey little man, good morning. wanna go to the beach today?” Link squishes Scout’s cheeks and unfastens the buckle of his high chair straps. Link carried him and placed him on the kitchen counter where Amelia is preparing the plates for their breakfast.
“didn’t know we have beach plans today. did you just think about it this morning?” Amelia asked.
“yeah, can’t stop picturing it. you want to? we can go to Madison Park.” Link responded. “sounds great! i miss that place.” she said with enthusiasm.
“maybe we can make that dream of yours a reality.” Amelia teased him with a smirk.
“i would love that. but we need someone to watch scout.”
“i’ll call the babysitter, she can come with us.”
“great idea.”
•••••••••••••••
carrying Scout with one arm, Link knocks on the bathroom door.
“babe, i’m afraid we might have to cancel Madison Park today, Winston texted me, says it’s too crowded.” Link said with a little disappointment.
Amelia grabs the shower knob and turned it off.
“oh man, i was really looking forward to it.” she said.
“yeah i’m sorry, maybe next time.”
“yeah....” Amelia sighed. “wait-“
“what?” Link said, curious as to what she has in mind.
“i mean... we can visit LA. Charlotte’s been begging me for years. it would be nice to see their faces again.”
“now? but we have work tomorrow.”
“i have Dr. Harvey on-call tomorrow, he can take over my service for a little while, plus the new batch of residents are good so i’m not worried about that. what you think?”
“i can delegate some stuff too. move some of my surgeries under Dr. Randall. okay, you know what, let’s do it. let me make some calls.”
“me too. i’m gonna cancel the babysitting. we should start packing though.”
“i’ll handle mine and Scout’s. you can just pack your things.”
“thanks babe. don’t forget his beeboo. or we’re in so much trouble.” Scout is still on the stage of forming his words properly, he calls his precious brown furry teddy bear, beeboo. he got it as a present from his Uncle Owen during his first birthday. he can’t live without it since.
Amelia gets out of the shower, started fixing her hair and put on some makeup.
Amelia and Link sat on their seats. surprisingly, Scout is well-behaved for a kid who’s riding an airplane for the very first time.
“you alright turkey? we’re gonna fly. like Peter Pan. woosh!” Link gestured his hand in a flying motion.
“yaaaa!!” Scout exclaimed.
Amelia gave a sigh of bliss. looking at her beautiful little family.
“may we request everyone sit down. fasten your seatbelts, we are about to take off.” the flight attendant spoke over the microphone.
Amelia and Link held Scout’s hand making sure he feels safe the entire flight.
-
after an hour, Scout fell asleep peacefully. he rests his head on his mommy’s chest.
“gotta be honest, i’m a little scared.” Amelia said.
“what are you scared about?”
“i don’t know, the memories maybe. staying in LA is one of the best days of my life but also the worst. have i told you that they set up an intervention for me in that place? i was too high at that time, i was a mess. a big scary mess.”
“yeah you mentioned the intervention but not every little detail. and i’m not gonna force you to tell me everything if you’re not comfortable. that was all in your past. you’re a better person now.” Link kisses her forehead. he grabbed Amelia’s hand to reassure her. their fingers danced to the beat of their hearts.
“i’ll accept you and your flaws, whatever they may be. that makes you, you. and i love you.” he added.
“don’t know what i’ll do without you, really. my big calm mountain.” Amelia kissed his hand in return. “but i’m also very excited to see everyone. it’s been a long time.”
Amelia and her family arrived at Seaside Health and Wellness.
“does anyone know we’re coming?” Link asked.
“i texted Addie, she’s at the hospital for a surgery. she’ll be back at 5.”
“and Charlotte?” Link replied.
“she surprised me. i’m returning a favor.”
as they’re about to step foot in the building, they heard a loud bang. people are screaming.
a lady got out of the car, “we need help!! somebody call an ambulance!!” she yelled.
“well, guess you’re the one who got surprised.” Link remarked sarcastically.
they both rushed to the scene. “i’m gonna check on them. call 911.” Link handed Scout to Amelia so he can check the severity of the situation. the little baby started crying so Amelia stepped aside to attend to their son, “honey everything’s okay, but don’t look over there. i don’t want you to see that. mommy’s here, you’re gonna be fine. i got you.”
Amelia calls the line. “hello. i’m Doctor Shepherd. we need an ambulance in front of Seaside Health and Wellness, please. a car ran into a pole right around the corner, multiple injuries.”
“we’re on our way doctor.” the paramedic answered.
“Link, is he responsive? Link!” Amelia worries.
“sir.. sir don’t move. i’m Doctor Lincoln. follow my finger” he puts his index finger in the air and let the man follow his direction. he poked the guy’s arm a little bit, “can you feel that?” the man nods. he responded well.
“he’s responsive... atleast for now. his head is bleeding, i see some glass shards. and his arm is broken, we need to get him to the hospital, fast.” he said.
the paramedics got into the scene after few minutes.
“i have to go with them, Amelia.”
“no, yeah you should. i’ll go straight to the hospital, i just need to leave scout with Violet, i hope she’s there. i need to check on that bleed.”
“Amelia!! ohmygod!! hi how are you??” Violet yelled of excitement. she has not seen or heard from her for years.
“i’m good, but there was an accident right out front. my boyfriend Link went with the paramedics. he’s an orthopedic surgeon. and i have to check the guy’s possible hemorrhage. it’s quite bad.” Amelia said all these words in a matter of seconds, she’s clearly in a rush.
“oh and by the way, this is Scout, my son. can you watch him for a minute? please?”
“yeah yeah no, it’s fine. there’s a play pen in the lobby, he’s gonna love it. hi there little guy.” Violet accepted and carried Scout in her arms.
“thank you so much. i’ll catch up with you when i get back, i swear.”
“mommy will be back. okay babe? i love you.” Amelia kissed his cheek before rushing through the elevator.
“thank you Vi!” Amelia waved goodbye.
Amelia entered the emergency room and saw Link wearing a trauma gown.
“hey, how’s our patient?” Amelia asked.
“he’s stable. his speech is a little slurred though. i stabilized his arm but he needs surgery. just waiting for the scans.”
“Charlotte gave you privileges? where’s she?”
“the next room. i already told her you’re coming, you have yours now too.”
Amelia grabbed a trauma gown and started checking on her patient.
“we need to get him a head CT. and book an OR please. we don’t know how much shards are in there” Amelia ordered the nurse.
“MVC incoming!”
Amelia stopped for a brief moment before she realized who that person is.
it’s James.
“ohhh no.” Amelia gasped.
she didn’t imagine that the love of her life and James, the guy she almost married, will be in the same room together. ever. this was not in any of her plans. shit.
Amelia tried to run away but James already saw her.
“Amelia?”
she had no choice but to turn around. he saw her, it’s too late. she can’t run now.
“James. hi. umm.. there was an accident, we were visiting and there was... an accident. in front of our eyes. life’s funny that way.” Amelia bursted in fake laughter.
“haven’t seen you since...” James got interrupted when Link entered the room.
“hey babe, let’s go.” Link said, handing Amelia the charts.
“hi, i’m James Peterson. i run the ER. nice to meet you doctor....”
“Lincoln. ortho.”
“oh, well nice to meet you Dr. Lincoln, thank you for your help. appreciate it.”
“ofcourse. pleasure to meet you too Dr. Peterson.”
“Dr. Shepherd.” James nodded and smiled at her. he left the room right away.
“must be nice to see familiar faces huh.” Link rubbed Amelia’s shoulder.
“yeah. but.. i expected you to react differently. i’m surprised you weren’t fazed or something.”
“why would i be?”
“it’s James... the one i ran away from. we were engaged.”
“that’s him?”

The baby moves the entire night so she cant sleep and she’s really uncomfortable she can’t find a position to sleep and the next day at work she’s sleepy and tired and with pelvic pain and Link tells her to go to sleep but she doesn’t accept she’s tired
SWEETIE Pt.1
Hey Everybody! I’m baaaack. Here is PART 1 to this. Please be nice and reblog and review me pleeaassee I need to boost my writers ego, (boost it from nothing right now).
I hope you enjoy this. Also a Reminder that somewhere in my writing universe Amelia was having twins (I think it should have happened in the show, THERE’S NO TWINS IN GREYS) so its twins here.
Send me more ideas for part 2, 3...80 Link to Masterpost (Binge at your own risk)
Amelia hummed softly, defiantly screwing her eyes shut. She willed the babies to still, to quit dancing, quit testing the boundaries of her womb. She took in a deep breath and released it through pouted lips, cheeks puffed.
She was coming to the end of her effort at testing the theory that if she was calm, and meditative, the babies would be too. She’d gradually decided it was the opposite for her offspring; drifting in and out of a light sleep, it had taken the last five hours for her to prove that.
Without even resting her hands against her bump she could feel it contorting and morphing in shape with the movement of the twins. Amelia finally gave up, opening her eyes, staring off into the darkness in front of her. In the silence of the night she could hear the flutter of a lone moth’ wings against her window, and the rushing of the night air outside, cars hummed in the distance.
She could hear Link next to her too, breathing softly, a quiet snore appearing and disappearing from his breath. When she focused on his presence behind her, an aching, swelling feeling of comfort and love swelled in her chest and she smiled in the dark.
Normally when the babies were so active Link would help her. He’d rub her stomach and hips and sing for them, it would calm her in a way that she wasn’t able to do for herself, it seemed, no matter how much she tried. Tonight though, she thought he needed sleep more than she did.
He’d come straight home following a nine and a half hour surgery, that ran his shift late by hours. So she was letting him sleep. She thought she should be able to settle herself, and them, on her own anyway.
A cool breeze rolled in through the window and she closed her eyes again, stretching her legs out and rolling on to her back. She suppressed a groan and immediately rolled back onto her side, dropping her legs off the bed and pushing herself to sitting. She sat still for a moment, resting her hands against her sides, applying firm pressure and rubbing from her hips to her ribs. He realised she was clenching her jaw and relaxed it, tipping her face up to the ceiling.
She stared into the fuzzy darkness of the room  and resigned herself to no sleep, and exhaustion tomorrow and rolled her eyes. She took in a deep breath, appreciating the smell of the fresh night air that had become near synonymous with the air in her room. A car alarm rang in the far distance, to her it was the volume of a whisper.
Amelia stood slowly, curling her toes into the carpet beneath her. She pressed a hand into the ache in the small of her back and stepped up to the window, opening it wider.  A light wind draped against her like a cool shawl and rearranged the hair that framed her face. She hummed mellifluously in an out breath and tipped her face to the sky.
Link stirred from sleep behind her and she heard the bed creak as he searched her out. “Amelia?” his voice was gravelly. Amelia remained still, though the twins were yet to wind down. “Yeah” Amelia said, pausing a moment and then turning her head to him. She could just make him out, leaning on his elbow, eyes glinting mutely with the light of the street.
“What’s wrong? Is something wrong?” he said, sitting up, sleep ebbing away from him too.
Amelia turned now, one hand holding on to the window sill, the other rest in the angle between her hip and the swell of her stomach. “They haven’t let me sleep” She admitted, setting herself back on the bed, melting with each hand that Link lay on her. “At all?”
“Some, but not much” she said, sighing, feeling suddenly exhausted but still as if she had two hamsters running in wheels inside her. She instantly felt guilty for comparing them to hamsters, but it was short lived as she pressed her face into Link’s chest and took in his smell. She let out an “mmmmnnnn” in pleasure and shivered, feeling her skin prickle as he chuckled. He continued to rub therapeutic spirals against her stomach.
“Feel good?”
Her answer was a sigh and a hum, she felt the movement inside her slow, as if the twins were settling cats, now walking in small circles before they curl up for sleep.
“Why didn’t you wake me Amelia? You’re going to be dragging all day tomorrow” He said. Amelia just hummed again, too absorbed in the blissful sensation he was permitting. The world felt as if it were slowing down finally, she felt herself spacing out. He felt it happening too; felt the babies winding down, and felt all the strain and tension leave Amelia.
She was still, and melded into his side, one warm hand loosely grasping his forearm. Her hot exhalations warmed the crook of his neck and he allowed for calm to envelop him again. He folded himself against her and held her. She felt heavy and soft in his arms and against his hands. He lay a firm kiss against her head, at the part of her hair and closed his eyes.
----------------------------------------------------------------
The sun was still asleep, but the sky showed signs of its waking. Amelia was asleep too. Link was lying on his side, he’d awoken a little while ago, feeling rested. The room was warm, Amelia liked it that way. During the night she’d always throw the duvet away from her, only her feet were tucked under it. Her t-shirt was twisted and wound around her, up against the underside of her breasts. Other than that she wore a pair of underwear, dappled grey.
Link gazed at her. She was so relaxed, so peaceful. One arm was draped across her torso, her index finger twitched against her stomach. He watched as she stirred slightly, turning her head to face Link. She sighed in her sleep, splaying her hand and sliding it to rest against her lower stomach. She settled again, completely oblivious of the Link’s gaze, of his thoughts.
Link smiled tightly, pursing his lips. He felt guilty knowing he’d be waking her in a few minutes. She grimaced slightly and rolled slowly onto her side facing him. Even asleep now, she didn’t seem to be fully comfortable. Link peered down at her stomach, the culprit in all this. He reached out and laid a hand against the exposed skin. There was stillness there now, he smiled.
“Amelia…” Link spoke softly, a creeping whisper. He brought his hand to her face and rest it against her cheek, drawing a line down her nose and across her soft lips. “Amelia”
She whined weakly, pouting. “Its half seven sweetie”
“Mnn sweetie” She contested the word, and Link grinned, moving his hand back to her waist, massaging her tired muscles. “Why are they sleeping now?” she moaned, feeling genuinely tearful.
“They had a long night” Link said, raising his brow, smiling sympathetically. Amelia just whimpered, opening her eyes. “You want a tea? caffeinated?” Link said, tipping his head to the side, meeting her eyes. She frowned and nodded, “Yes please”
“Okay, I’ll go make it, some toast too?”
“Yes please”
“You okay getting up?” he asked, knowing she’d be feeling rough. She hummed yes and rolled onto the back. He offered his hand anyway and helped her sit up, moving closer and stooping down to kiss her on the lips. He held her face between his hands and they locked eyes.
“I’m sorry they stopped you sleeping, but you’re doing amazing,” He said. Amelia smiled weakly and leaned into one of his hands, sighing.
“Thanks” she said.
“Alright, I’ll be back in a bit, or do you want to just come down for it?”
“I’ll come down”
“Okay”, he said, kissing her quickly again before leaving.
Amelia huffed, standing up shakily, feeling her muscle protest and an ache set in in her pelvis.
It took her a little longer than usual to get ready, so much that Link came up to check on her. He poked his head around the corner, finding her slipping on her shoes, holding on to the chest of draws.
“Alright?” he said and she smiled, forcefully, trying to deceive herself of the utter fatigue she was feeling. Link thought to say she looked beautiful, because he always thought she was, but he didn’t, deciding it was the last thing she’d want to hear.
She was wearing a pair of dark jeans and a plaid shirt that hung loosely on her. Her smile faded and she became more vacant as she made her way to the door. “Are you okay? You hurting?”
“Uuumm… I guess” she forced some cheerfulness into her voice as she walked ahead of him down the stairs. But her pace descending was a giveaway at the discomfort she was in.
“I’m okay... I’m okay, I got this” she said, reaching the bottom of the stairs, eyeing him at the top of them, nodding meeting his eyes, wanting to reassure him. Heading for the kitchen she found Maggie sat at the table, who nudged Amelia’s tea towards her as she entered.
Amelia took a sip and hummed her delight, closing her eyes. She quickly opened them, realising how good it felt to shut her eyes, and how much she’d like to go back to bed. She decided too to stay standing, hesitant to let herself rest, worried the stopping and starting would make her pelvic cramping worse. She downed her tea, sighing.
“I heard you had a rough night?” Maggie said, standing up and taking Amelia’s empty mug.
“Yup… it’s fine, I just need to get going…” Amelia said, arching her back and rolling her shoulders back. Link bustled in then, arranging his bag on his shoulder, and dropping his jacket into a chair.
“Take it easy maybe Amelia” Maggie said, nodding, resting her hand on Amelia’s shoulder, Amelia met her eyes. Maggie stood before her, looking equally exhausted having just finished a night shift.
“I will” Amelia said, nodding, unsure at how she was going to balance her day with what she felt she needed, which was twelve hours of sleep. She laughed a little.
Maggie grinned, seeing that resilience in Amelia’s eyes. She leaned down so her face was close to Amelia’s bump, uttering “naughty babies”.  Link chuckled, folding his arms.
Standing sharply, Maggie took in a breath, “Right, have a good day, I’m going to bed” She said, waving as she headed for her room.
--------------------------------------------------------
In the car Amelia sat rigid, with restless legs, and hands that gripped her bouncing knees. She yawned for the third time and rubbed her face, widening her eyes.
“Amelia? Are you sure you’re okay to work?”
“I’m okay Link, I slept some and I feel okay”
“Amelia, promise me you’re not going to push yourself today?”
“Link…” Amelia sighed, dropping her head against the headrest. She didn’t want to promise she wouldn’t do something that she was already doing. She was already pushing herself and had been the moment she’d pushed herself up out of bed.
“Amelia” He tried to reason.
“Link, truth is I’m pushing myself now, I’m exhausted and I’m hurting... But link” she shifted in her seat, sitting up. “I’m 7 months pregnant, I’m tired all the time, and I need to do my job”
“Amelia, I get that but you need too…”
“Link, don’t tell me what I need to do okay, I know, I’m a grown woman” she said, raising her voice. She flushed hot, her temper crackling like a fire inside her. ‘God I’m tired’ she thought, in an internal sigh that dragged her eyes closed. Link had stopped speaking, sensing her patience dwindling.
“I’m sorry” she mumbled, slow blinking and clasping her hands together in her lap.
“It’s okay” Link said, pursing his lips, eyes fixed on the road ahead.
Amelia took a lengthy breath and peered down at herself. Her last pregnancy had been taxing in a completely different way. As they pulled into the hospital parking lot she held her stomach, looking down at the curve, and reminded herself that beneath her hands, were two healthy babies. At the end of all the pain and strain and tiredness, she’d have two babies, living and breathing in her arms.
She hadn’t realised they were parked till Link’s hand came into view, resting and caressing her thigh. She looked up, finding his gaze. He smiled a warm, and grateful smile; o warm, she felt it sooth her.
“I am your servant today, wherever I can be”
“My slave” Amelia chuckled heartily, a lightness gracing her.
“Haha sure, I’m indebted to you for this” he said, resting his hand against her stomach.
“You sure are… you can carry any future babies, all eight of them”
Link’s brows rose at that and he smiled toothily. “Eight? Why not ten, take it to a dozen”
“Well it’s your vagina Link” Amelia said, nonchalantly, opening her door and turning, smirking.
“Wait don’t move…” Link said, opening his door and making his way around to her side.
“I’ll wait for slave” Amelia said, dramatically throwing herself against the back of her chair in despair.
“Okay, come on” he said, offering his hand.
“All joke’s aside Link I do appreciate your help” Amelia said, taking his hand and standing up, turning her face away to hide the discomfort she felt grow the moment she was up. She let Link collect all their things, walking with him, and stretching and arching her back before they headed across to the hospital.

Disturbances
Heyy Omelia-Fans :-) Here is the requested Fic about Amelia being airsick. I hope you all like it!
“Good morning! Ladies and Gentlemen, welcome aboard United airlines, flight 479 to Chiacago...”, the Stewardess welcomed the passengers. Meredith, who sat  next to Amelia took a deep breath. “Are you okay?”, Amelia asked her, since she knew about what happend to Meredith years ago. Meredith nodded. Meanwhile Owen, who sat on the other side of Amelia put away his phone and fastened his seatbelt. He took one look on Amelia´s and Meredith´s lap, as if he wanted to check their seatbelts too. He seemed to be satisfied and Amelia chuckled. “Do you know what´s great?”, Amelia asked him and leaned towards him. “What?”, he raised his one eyebrow. “When we arrive, we have the rest of the day to do whatever we want to do.”, she grinned. “Uh-huh, and what would that be?”, he asked with a premonition. Amelia tilted her head, as if she had to think about his question. Then he leaned towards him and whispered: “Let´s check out these hotel beds.” Owen smirked. “I heard they are particularly good for...” he whispered back but didn´t end the sentence. And he didn´t need to. These external missions were also known as “flirt-holidays” at the GSM. Just that until now, Owen and Amelia weren´t requested for the same case. But this time a complicated and rare case waited for them and Tom, Hayes, Jackson, Teddy and Jo, who sat in the rows before them.
“Ladies and Gentlemen, We are now crossing a zone of turbulence. Please return to your seats and keep your seatbelts fastened. Thank you.”, the stewardess announced after one hour. And only some minutes later the airplane began jolting a little. Meredith looked outside nervously and Amelia put her hand on her shoulder. But although it was just a slight turbulence, suddenly she felt a wave of nausea hit her. And the occasional bucking of the airplane didn´t make it any better, so she leaned back and closed her eyes. She pressed her hand on her stomach in the hope to make the sickness go away, but it didn´t help either. “Hey, what´s wrong.”, Meredith asked when she noticed Amelia´s position. Also Owen had recognized something was wrong. “I feel sick.”, Amelia answered without moving. “Do you want some water?”, Owen asked and didn´t wait for her answer. He grabbed a bottle out of his bag and handed it to her. Amelia took it thankfully. “Better?”, Meredith asked. Amelia sighed. “Not really...I think I´m gonna have to throw up.”, she said as the sickness in her stomach got worse. “Just don´t vomit all over me.”, Owen said and gave her one of the bags out of the seat pocket. “Very sympathetic.”, Meredith commented ironically and stroked Amelia´s arm, when she began to throw up. “Okay?”, Meredith asked, when she stopped, “Do you want me to get you something? Water?” Amelia shook her head. “Don´t you feel any better?”, she asked compassionately. Amelia shook her head again. “You could help, too, Owen.”; Meredtih said then and gave him a look. “What could I do?”, Owen replied. Meredith rolled her eyes. “Like, your wife is feeling really bad and you sit there and don´t even say something.” Then Meredith turned her attention to Amelia, who was emptying her stomach again. “Oh Amelia...What can I do?”, she asked but didn´t get an answer. Amelia instead leaned forwards and rested her forehead on Jackson´s seat before her. Meredith stroked her back and looked at Owen again, who didn´t know what to do. “You could try to sleep a little. And dream of a husband, who is a little more comforting.”, she said to Amelia. “That´s not fair. Aren´t you a little bit overprotective?”, Owen asked Meredith. “I don´t blame you, Owen. It´s just funny how insensitive men can be.”, Meredith replied, amused by his attemption to defend himself. “Stop it.”, Amelia groaned, as she took the bag again. But she could just dry-heave, because her stomach was already empty. Meredith didn´t know, what else she could try to help Amelia, but there wasn´t much they could do in the airplane. Amelia just wanted the sickness to go away. The dry-heaving made her stomach hurt a lot and her eyes watering. “I could ask for a soda water.”, Meredith proposed, “Or maybe they have something against nausea on board.” Amelia shook her head. She wanted Meredith to stop talking for a moment. She  really appreciated that her sister wanted to make her feel better, but she really hated to be pitied and Meredith exxagerated a little bit with that. But also Owen felt really bad for his wife now, because he could see how pained Amelia seemed to be. That couldn´t go on for the next 3 hours. He put his hand on her shoulder and pulled her back slightly. She laid down her head on his shoulder. “My stomach hurts.” she moaned. Owen laid his hand on her belly and stroked it gently. And just the feeling of his warm hand, made it a little better, so Amelia could relax for a moment. She was so exhausted after vomiting continuously. “Could you give me the water?”, she asked Meredith then. “Of course.”, she answered and handed her the bottle. She was glad that Amelia seemed to feel better. Now they just had to survive the next few hours in the airplane. And as Amelia, she was looking forward to try out these hotel beds. But definitely just for sleeping.

a/n: HELLO!!! i haven’t wrote in so long so i’m sorry if this is awful and seems rushed :( this is a HEADCANON fic for next episode!! enjoy x
for eli<3
A mess. What happened has created a mess; understandably so; but it didn’t have to be. At least in her mind, her own opinion, it didn’t have to be. It was already a mess, a complicated and very opinionated mess to begin with. A situation that most had their own opinions about, one that he also had an opinion about. A constant circle, always back to square one. That’s what their relationship always was. Always one step forward and two steps back.
In the beginning, all he was, was sex. Alternative pain relief, no strings attached because her life was “already full of complications.” He was a rebound, honestly so. He wasn’t supposed to be anything more; just somebody to help her feel alive again. She had a history of jumping into stuff too quickly and it was the one flaw of hers she desperately wished she could change. That’s when she decided a slow route with him, proper datings, dates sitting across a dinner table to get to know each other, to really get to know him; square one. Then the accidental pregnancy, but him unsure of wanting to stay if he was not the father. One step forward, two steps back. Square one.
There they were again. Him leaving, deciding he couldn’t be with her without the marriage. Her unconditional love and affection for him was there, she adored him and she fell in love with him. But it wasn’t enough. He needed the label, he needed the realness and he wanted the big family in the big house, the idea of a perfect family. While his idea of his happy life was finally playing out, her sister in between life and death. She couldn’t recognize herself. She felt like she was always trying to catch her breath, like she was drowning or like a constant weight was pushing down on her chest and it was so heavy it was felt in her lungs. Pushing down so hard that it was hard to breathe, like her lungs were being filled up with water.
Her sobriety was shaky, self confidence was at it’s lowest all while her addiction was crawling back in. She was hanging on by a thread and he was falling in love with life; happy, grateful. He knew, they had a deal and it wasn’t followed through and all the pressure on his want for marriage was more weight being added to the brick that already sat on her chest.
So he left and it ached. Back to square one. But, a part of her always found peace with it, or at least she thought she could by at least knowing that he can find somebody to wants the same things he does, and they can both be truly happy and that’s what her plan was, as well.
To be happy.
So when she kissed Kai Bartley, it’s because she craved it. Wanted to feel the butterflies in her stomach like she was a little kid on the playground, like a young girl with a crush. The way her cheeks felt hot and the way knees felt weak, what the giddy feeling was like.
A connection. Amelia had a connection with them that made her feel calm, at ease, the weight on her chest felt lighter and it was easier to breathe.
“Did you just guide mediate me?” Their eyes were scanning her face, a look in their eyes that Amelia almost missed.
“Did it work?” Her eyes were trailing down to their lips then back up to their eyes.
“It didn’t not work.” Kai took a step forward, their eyes peering down at her, towering over her and their eyes matched hers; full of anticipation.
It only took a few seconds before Kai’s hand was reaching forward to brush the hair out of Amelia’s face, gently tucking it behind her ear.
She didn’t plan on kissing them, although she craved it, it wasn’t what she planned to happen. But then she felt Kai’s soft hands delicately stroking her earlobe before the palm of their hand gripped around her neck, their thumb running along her jawline.
Her eyes fluttered shut, a feeling of warmth ran through her body and her breath hitched in her throat. Kai’s thumb stopped at her chin, tugging Amelia’s face to face theirs and they were both leaning into each other.
It felt like her knees were going to give out, and her entire body melted into the kiss. Her hand immediately snaking around to grab onto the back of Kai’s head, fingers weaving in and out of their sandy blonde hair. Amelia’s other hand flew to Kai’s waist, a gentle tug on their hips to try and get them closer; to feel their entire body pressed against hers.
Their lips were as soft as she imagined; maybe even softer. It’s what they both wanted, what they both craved. The tension and anticipation building up from the moment they met and if they weren’t standing outside the hospital Amelia probably would have backed them right up against the wall, and she so badly wanted to unbutton their shirt.
The kiss lasted longer than she expected, but not long enough; not as long as she wanted it to. She wanted more and the way her palms were sweaty and her hands were trembling, she needed more. She could hear her own heartbeat in her ears.
Her eyes opened and only for a moment, her gaze wandered off to see Atticus Lincoln peering over their shoulder. For a second, her smile faded.
She could see the hurt in his eyes, she could see it take over all of his features that detailed his face. It was the same disappointed and crushed look he gave her back on the beach, the same look that made Amelia want to jump into his arms and say she’s sorry, say she loves him.
But Kai’s eyes were searching hers and Link was storming off before she even had a chance to process it all.
“Speechless?” Kai asked, a smirk pulling at the corners of their mouth.
“I—,” She paused, her bottom lip being chewed on by her teeth. “Uh.”
“I’ll see you around, Shepherd.” And then they were turning away on the ball of their feet, only glancing back for a second over their shoulder.
“I’m a good guy,” To her right was Link, his eyes blazing in anger. “And this— I don’t deserve this.”
It was the two of them, standing in front of the O.R board. Her hand let go of the white board eraser that she just previously used and she was turning to look at him, her eyebrows pushed together.
“You told me you loved me, Amelia.” He was stepping closer now, a finger being raised to point at her. There was anger in his eyes, his tone was harsh and his eyebrows furrowed. “And you left Scout with me to fly to Minnesota every week to meet someone else?”
“Link,” she started, a growl leaving her throat.
“Did you mean it when you said you loved me?” He interrupted, taking one step closer to her. “How long has this been going on?” She could see the hurt in his eyes and his voice was filled with distaste, a tone in his voice that he’s never spoken to her in.
She opened her mouth to speak but he beat her to it again, shaking his head and letting out a groan. “Is this why our relationship fell apart?”
“Are you trying to imply that you meant nothing to me?” She snapped. People roaming the halls were diverting their attention to the two of them, nurses were distracted from their work to watch the argument unfold.
“You leave Scout to-“
She stepped closer, their faces only a foot apart from each other and you could see the anger in her eyes. “If you’re trying to say that I don’t care about our son then I suggest you think very carefully before you speak.”
“Amelia-“ He tried.
“No, Link.” She growled. “You left me.”
From the corner of her eye was Kai. Amelia wasn’t sure how long they had been standing there but there was two styrofoam coffee cups in their hand and they stopped in their tracks to watch the two of them get in each other’s faces. Kai found it hard to believe that there was ever any affection.
“But I stayed,” his tone sounded desperate now, almost like a beg— like a please, oh my god, understand what I’m saying beg, like he was so exhausted and has given up on her answer always being: no, she won’t marry him. And before she could even explain her side, before she could even want to; he’d storm off, disappear and stay at his best friends place. There was never room for conversation, it was just silence. Some parts seemed too familiar. “When things got hard with your sobriety, I stayed.”
“And yet, you still got down on one knee.” The utter shame she felt, maybe he didn’t mean that or maybe he didn’t mean it in the way she thought, she wasn’t sure if her thinking was even clear enough. Some part her felt like crawling away, hiding— the way she felt was numb. Her heart was caught in her throat and all she could do was stare at him. Her eyes were sad though; hurt.
He knew how hard she was holding on, he knew she was holding on by a thread and yet, knowing she didn’t want marriage, he proposes. And somehow it all seems like her fault.
“Amelia,”
“Coffee?” Kai spoke, stepping next to Amelia and handing her a coffee. Amelia felt their hand slip behind her and gently caress the middle of her back.
But Link and Amelia were staring at each other, both of their eyes searching each other’s for some type of answer. She wasn’t sure what she was looking for but it felt like her chest was heavy again, like the weights were starting to push her under water.
Her chest felt tight and her blue eyes were swimming in a puddle of tears.
Stepping forward, Kai reached their hand out for Link to shake. “Kai Bartley.” When Link ignored them, his eyes not even glancing over, they stepped back. “Well, you’ve got some good qualities but insecurity is your worst one.”
That drew both of their attention away from one another to look over at Kai, and if Amelia wasn’t so angry and hurt she’d laugh.
“You know what,” Link said, shaking his head. “Forget it.”
And before she could answer, he was already walking away from her forcefully pushing a door open so fast that it slammed against the wall.
“Is that him?” Kai asked, turning on their heel to look down at Amelia.
But Amelia’s mind was going a million miles a minute, and all she could hear was static, it also felt like her blood was boiling. Her eyes never glanced up, instead she was focused on her breathing rather than everyone that was staring at her.
She forgot what it was like to feel this much shame or this exposed. She was doing well with her sobriety, she worked really hard at it and she was good. The pandemic was rough for her and life was crazy, crazier than she ever expected it to get and she was exhausted.
Everything was starting to get better, she was doing okay again and now everyone in the halls knew how hard she had struggled previously. She didn’t hide her addiction from people, but it also wasn’t hallway conversation and it definitely wasn’t a story everyone had to know about her.
A story she didn’t even want Kai to know, at least not yet.
“I’m sorry,” Amelia started and without even looking at them, she turned away and stormed off.
She tried to keep herself distracted because if not, she’d think too much; worry too much but even while keeping herself busy, the interaction still played out in her head. Like a broken record.
When things got hard with your sobriety, I stayed.
He said it like marriage was now an obligation. Like she was obligated to marry him because he stayed when life got difficult, when she was struggling. It was like he expected it, like she was wrong for not wanting the same dream as him.
She loved him. She loved him so much, with every fibre of her being and sometimes she believes there’s still a part of her that does. Everything was accidental— falling in love, having a child together, nothing was ever planned so the thought of marriage was crazy to her as well as overwhelming. Marriage wasn’t anything she needed to have, or desired. They used to be on the same page but while she fell out of love with herself and could no longer recognize herself, he fell more in love with her and with a life he dreams to have.
But now she was angry. Angry that he’d even use her addiction as an advantage to make her feel guilty, like the reason their relationship ended was because she left him.
The brain scans on the screen weren’t enough to stop her mind from going elsewhere. Her day was slow, no surgeries booked so the only way she could distract herself was from a few consults. It wasn’t enough.
The door to the room opened, and she was no longer alone. “Hey! I’ve been looking all over for you!” The voice came from Maggie, who sat down in the chair beside her.
Amelia’s eyes were still staring ahead at the computer screen, a brain scan taking over the monitor. “Did something happen? Winston said—“
“Look,—“ Amelia sighed, turning the chair so it was facing her, a sigh falling out of her mouth. “I really don’t want to talk about it. I’m just— going to finish this consult and pick up Scout from daycare and go home.”
“Amelia-“ Maggie’s voice was soft. Somehow Maggie could always read her, always knew something was wrong; mind you, she wasn’t hiding it well.
“I’m fine.” She forced a small smile on her face. “I’m okay. I’m pushing through.”
She gave in, accepting the fact that Amelia wasn’t going to talk. “Okay, well. If you need anything, I am here.” When she stood, she placed a hand on Amelia’s shoulder for comfort. Amelia nodded, giving her a genuine smile before Maggie turned to leave the room.
She wished her mind was as quiet as the room was.
When Maggie left, Link was slipping past her to enter the room. He stopped in his tracks when his eyes landed on her. “Don’t worry, I’ll leave.”
“No— I’m just leaving.” She spun the chair around, so her back was facing him. If she looked him in the eyes, he’d see right through her. He always did.
He was scowling; pouting. His arms crossed over his chest and his eyebrows pushed together. He was angry; maybe not as angry as she was though. She wondered when he became so arrogant, she barely even recognized him. He used to be kind, someone that always said the right thing, always knew how to calm her down.
“Amelia, I’m sorry, what I said was—“
“Out of line.” She interrupted, her eyes not looking up. “But it’s cool, Link. You said what you said, the damage is done.” Standing up from the chair, her eyes landed on his, blue eyes sad.
He didn’t respond though, instead he kept his arms crossed over his chest and had an angry look on his face. So instead, she headed to the door and pulled it open before turning to look at him. “I meant it when I said I loved you. Did you?”
“Of course I did, Amelia.”
“Just not enough, I guess.” And that’s when his face softened, went from angry to sad. You could see the guilt hit him, wash away all of his features and his body was no longer tense.
“I’m picking up Scout from daycare.” And she didn’t let him respond, she barely even let him process everything before she was exiting the room, closing the door shut behind her.
Scout was being fussy, rubbing his eyes with his palms and letting out loud wails. He was sleeping when she picked him up from daycare, and he wasn’t happy to be woken up. He cried the whole way to the attendings lounge, his rosy cheeks stained with salty tears.
“Mama.” He would mumble while she buckled him into his stroller, his eyelids falling closed before seconds later he was sleeping, drool dripping out of his mouth.
She smiled, her heart warm and she leaned forward to press a gentle kiss to his forehead.
She sat in a chair, Scout facing her and she was about to stand up before she felt a warm breath tickle the side of her face. Their scent was recognizable and when their teeth gently glazed across her ear, it sent a tingle down her spine and it caused her breath to hitch in her throat.
“Close your eyes.” Their voice was barely above a whisper.
She obeyed, her eyes falling shut before she could feel Kai’s breath hit against her ear. “It’s a summer night. You’re standing on a beach on a island just west of California. The sand is still warm and it’s soft. So soft you can feel it between your toes.”
One of Kai’s hands tucked a piece of Amelia’s hair behind her ear. “There’s a cool breeze and the sky is orange. It reflects off the water and it’s quiet. The sound of waves crashing on the shore. It’s peaceful. A type of peace you dream of.”
Then, Kai’s lips were kissing below her ear and it caused Amelia to let out a quiet groan, her head falling back to give Kai more room.
Amelia turned to face them, her hands reaching for their belt loops before she was pulling them between her legs. Kai’s hand ran along her jawline before stopping at the base of her neck, giving it a gentle squeeze while their lips connected. Kai’s tongue ran along the bottom of Amelia’s lip, their other arm running down Amelia’s body to stop at her waist.
She wanted more. She craved more, and finally her mind was quiet. Their kiss grew more passionate and Amelia was tugging on Kai’s waist to try and get them to be closer to her. It felt like she was on fire, or like electricity was running through her. The longer the kiss lasted, the more she wanted it to keep going.
For a brief moment, Kai pulled away, their lips only inches away from hers. “Your son is here.”
“He’s asleep.” Amelia breathed against Kai’s lips, her hands resting along their jawline and pulling them back to her to connect their lips once more. Amelia stood from her chair, pushing Kai towards a wall until their back hit it. Her hands tangled in their hair, Kai’s hands gripping at her sides.
Then, Kai pulled away again, fully this time and Amelia let out a whine. “I have a plane to catch.” They winked, a smirk pulling at their lips. Tease.
Amelia leaned forward again, her lips pressing against theirs. It felt so good to kiss them, and she didn’t want to stop. “Stay.” She whispered, her voice full of desperation.
“I’ll see you next week.” Kai said once their lips left hers, before they made their way over to the door.
“Don’t let him get to you,” They turned to look at her briefly. “You are exceptional, Shepherd. Brilliant.”
