Eddie, in the middle of a live-stream: Oh, Steve just got home. Hey, Stevie! C’mere, Sweetheart.
Steve: Yeah?
Eddie: Wanna go to the movies on Saturday?
Steve, lighting up like Christmas: Like a date?
Eddie: Yeah, baby. Like a date. Me, you, and the movies. Sound like a plan?
Steve: Totally!
Eddie, turning back to the camera: Awesome, you heard it here first. Steve and I will be at the premiere of-
Steve: What? Eddie-
Eddie: No take backs! You already said yes. We’re locked in

despite the obvious and such, you can tell wukong is chinese because he is a dad who is terrible at apologising like a normal person and just tensely hands you chopped fruit, some sort of awkward nod, and a “someone has to eat it before it goes bad. don’t waste it.” before swiftly walking away when he raised his voice at you an hour earlier.

Semi-coherent Nope thought of the day: the way that the Haywoods and Ricky/Jupe understand and react to Jean Jacket is an extension of the way they navigate the experience of working in Hollywood as POC.
Ricky cannot differentiate his identity and experiences from the narratives which Hollywood has imposed on him: he's the Asian kid from Gordy's Home and Kid Sheriff; he still calls himself Jupe and runs a theme park based on a role he played as a child. He relates to the Gordy's Home incident not through the lens of his own memories but the media around it — the SNL sketch he describes to Emerald, the memorabilia in the hidden shrine in his office. It's his inability to conceptualize the world outside the lens of spectacle that prevents him from understanding what Jean Jacket is and why she behaves the way she does — he starts from the assumption that he can make her into a theme park attraction and works backwards from there.
In contrast, the Haywoods and OJ in particular are characterized by their ability to see things as they are, and their insistence that others do the same with them: they make a deliberate effort to combat the erasure of Black people in Hollywood — and their own ancestors in particular — by recounting the history of Haywoods' Hollywood Horses at the start of each safety meeting rather than resigning themselves to being the nameless "horse guys." Similarly, OJ refuses to accept the official narrative surrounding his father's death — that the coin that killed him fell out of a prop plane — when it contradicts his own memories of the event, and it's his trust in his own judgement, coupled with his refusal to anthropomorphize animals (including extraterrestrial ones) is what allows him to accurately predict Jean Jacket's behaviour. Neither Jupe nor the Haywoods deserve to be treated the way they are under the Hollywood system, but OJ and Em find a way to avoid being (literally) consumed by it, while Jupe does not.

Z for...Zella!! 😜😄🩵💙🖤
I grew up with horses, and definitely wanted to be a cowboy or something horse-related growing up (one of my school mascots was even the Cowboys, so bonus points to that!), but Zorro was like, my first hero. He's the guy I always imagined myself as when I was sitting in the saddle (except when I had my Batman costume on), and looking back, he's influenced so much of my life and love for stories (especially a lot of favorite character aesthetics 😜). And he had the coolest horse (which is my dream horse, just with a different name)!!
All that said, I'm going with Zorro Della for Cowboy Della. I think she would've loved the character, too. 🖤
This was a bit rushed, admittedly, but I got to play with some perspectives, clothing choices, and shading, so good exercise! ^_^
+ bonus Della sketch though, bc I also loved this idea:

Young Della's trying on Scrooge's old cowboy clothes (from Life & Times of Scrooge) - they're still just a pinch too big for her. 😝🥹🤠

"You promised I'd be safe here" + ambushed + being watched
day 18 of @whumptember
387 words
warnings: cursing, kidnapping, being watched
part two
---
“Villain, I swear to fucking god, let me in!” Hero shouts, pouding on the door. She rests her forehead against the door and stops banging on it for a second. “Please, Villain. Let me in.”
She pulls away from the door and takes a few steps back before ramming her shoulder into the door, tearing it away from the hinges and sending it flying into the room.
Villain’s standing in the corner of the room with a baseball bat in hand, reared up and ready to use. He shouts, “Stay away from me!”
Hero freezes and holds her hands out, “Villain…what are you doing? It’s just me.”
He shakes his head, “No, they’re coming for me. You said- you promised- I’d be safe here. But they’re still coming. They know about this place and they know you’ve been helping me. And they’re gonna-”
“Villain,” Hero snaps. She walks up to him and takes the bat from his hands. “No one knows about this place, because it doesn’t technically exist. Ok? You are safe here.”
His eyes are locked on the bat, hanging loosely in Hero’s hand at her side. He shakes his head and peeks his head past the window frame, “I saw them. They were looking from the trees.”
“Villain, I need you to look at me.” Hero drops the bat on the ground and takes Villain’s face in her hands. “I have security cameras at every angle around this place. There are locks and alarms on all the doors and windows, and locks on all the interior doors in case anyone manages to get in. There’s no-look at me- no way anyone is getting to you.”
She wipes a tear from his face with the pad of her thumb and nods. He swallows thickly and whispers, “Ok.”
She smiles forcefully and lets him go, “I’ll put the door back on, let me go get my tools.”
As she turns out of the hallway and goes down the stairs to get her toolbox, all the alarms sound. Villain screams from his room and a window breaks.
Hero runs up the stairs, tools forgotten and shouts, “Villain?!”
She races to his room and finds it empty, with the window in pieces on the ground. There’s a piece of paper on the bed.
“You should’ve listened to him.”

The thought of Pied Piper would be inside the palanquin with parted curtains and sitting seiza? Yes? No? Okay. Time for the procession!
Instead he be sweating inside that wooden Fifi disguise, reevaluating why he accepted the job offer from Rumpelstiltskin in the first place 😂.

wait i wanna ask a character question too what do you think of bonnie's gum family
I Think They’re Neat! i really wish we had the time to see more of them, because i think i would really like them if we just got to spend more time with them. gumbald being such a Parallel/Dark Reflection of bonnie is super fun and interesting conceptually, and chicle is funny as hell. i don’t have anything to say about lolly just that she seems nice. basically i enjoy the Idea of them, i like the Potential they have, but we see so so little of them that i almost forget they exist :(
OH LAST MINUTE ADDITION HE DOESN’T FALL UNDER THE UMBRELLA PPL ARE TALKING ABOUT WHEN THEY SAY “BONNIES GUM FAMILY” BUT LIKE

@beatingheart-bride
At this suggestion, June and Wilhelm were a touch surprised, but nevertheless exchanged a little smile: While they wouldn't have said no to Randall and Emily moving in together back at Emily's house (figuring the two of them would want to spread their wings elsewhere, and would come back regularly for visits), there was something wonderful about the idea of them all staying together. Their house, small and humble though it was, was a home, and it did them good to hear that Emily felt just the same.
(And it put a little less worry on the Pace parents' minds, knowing they wouldn't have to worry about Emily making it home safe and sound before the sun rose...)
"Well, I think that's a fine idea," June agreed, her husband and son nodding along-Randall in particular taking Emily's hand to squeeze as Wilhelm said, "We're more than okay with it, lass! Our home is your home, and we're more than happy to have you here with us."
Randall was only half-listening to his parents comments (as they resumed enthusing about the wedding and what little preparations they had left), too distracted by gazing lovingly at his bride-to-be. Although he knew it wouldn't exactly be the case (as they'd likely all still sleep in their beds, just as they had before), a part of him couldn't but imagine life (or something like it) as vampires, all four members of the Pace family as little bats, all huddled together on the ceiling, like bats all gathered in the craggy confines of a cave...
