Amaran

The movie was really good, and it kept up a strong pace right from the start. It’s an army story, and while the first half was fast and engaging, the second half got a bit predictable. Since we already know how the story ends, it would’ve been more interesting if they’d added a little more suspense instead of going in a straight line. But that’s honestly the only thing I felt could’ve been better.

The love story really stands out in this movie. They showed it beautifully without overdoing anything, and that’s what made it work. Sai Pallavi was amazing in her role – honestly, one of her best performances. The character Rebecca, who she plays, is shown as strong and resilient, just like the real person she’s based on. I’ve seen the real Rebecca in interviews, so I could totally imagine her reacting just like Sai Pallavi did in the movie. That realistic portrayal added a lot to the character.

The movie also captured the stress and worry that an army family goes through, wondering when they’ll get a call or what news they might hear. There’s this lovely scene where the couple talks over a video call before going to sleep – it felt so real and showed their relationship perfectly. Sivakarthikeyan did a fantastic job balancing his role as a family man and a dedicated army officer. You could feel the effort he put into showing both sides of the character.

The fight scenes and the moment he says, "This is the face of the Indian army," looked very real, showing how soldiers actually handle combat. The war scenes had so much detail, and you could see how much work went into making them look realistic.Sivakarthikeyan’s transformation for this role was just on another level.

This movie totally does justice to Major Mukund's story .

Amaran (2024)

My parents took me out to the movies after an exhausting week of exams. I had no idea what were watching, knew nothing about who was starring and absolutely knew zilch about the plot. My mom just told me that she was sure that I'd like the movie very much. And I can tell you now, I liked the movie very much indeed.

The direction and the story-telling were just amazing. Mukund's and Indhu's story was so beautiful to watch. The way their relationship blossomed and how they fought through the hurdles was heart-warming. Knowing how the movie was going to end made all those scenes that much more precious, that much more meaningful. Of course I knew how the movie was going to end. It's a movie based on a soldier in the Indian Army. There was only one place this movie was going and I knew that really well.

Mukund was driven and passionate. His love for the army and his dedication towards serving the country, no matter what anyone else said was inspiring. There was none of that typical Indian film hero-worship, at least not too the extent where it was unrealistic. Whatever was portrayed in the movie in terms of the respect the soldiers had for Mukund, how his family treated him and how his in-laws treated him all did feel quite realistic. That being said, I felt as though the dialogue-writing in some places was just meh? There were many places where the dialogues were flat and just tweaking the words here and there may have made it more resounding? I don't know. That's just my non-expert opinion.

In terms of the acting, Sivakarthikeyan did an okay job. It wasn't spectacular or anything. I've seen other actors emote better. But, he did play his role well. It was nice to see him move away from his comfort comedic-acting to a more serious one such as this. This must have been such a great opportunity for him and I like the growth. Perhaps doing more of such movies will get him the exposure that he needs. His efforts have to appreciated.

Sai Pallavi on the other hand, man, what an actress! She was just so damn spectacular in this film. Every scene that she was in was just such a pleasure to watch. This woman knows how to EXPRESS. She knows how to EMOTE. I laughed with her, I became excited with her, and I cried with her. Honestly, her acting really did carry the movie a good distance. That scene in the bathroom, that scene with the phone call, those last few minutes of the movie, will forever live rent free in my head. She has done such an AMAZING job and I can't wait for her to win awards for her role in this film. She deserves it.

The fact that this movie is based on real-life events, makes it that much more heartbreaking. When the title of the film popped on to the screen, I already had an inkling as to how this movie was going to end. 'Amaran' means 'immortal'. And I can now see why they the named the movie so.

I am and will always be such a sucker for military movies.

Overall, 9.4/10

Docked a few points for the pain and anxiety this movie put me through.

100% would recommend. Will definitely watch again for the plot and for Sai Pallavi and for Sivakarthikeyan (he really is one of my favorite human beings)

I'm gonna go and get my hands on the book that was written about Mukund Varadarajan.

Album Sulung Johny Comes Lately ‘Ke Mana Kita?’ Membuktikan Kenapa Mereka Merupakan Band Ska/Punk Terbaik di Malaysia.

Jika anda mengikuti scene Ska/Reggae di Malaysia, nama band Johny Comes Lately (JCL) merupakan satu nama yang tidak asing. Band ini asalnya bermula dengan 4 orang dan tiada pemain-pemain di bahagian brass/horn, sehingga mereka mengikut jejak langkah Plague of Happiness (P.O.H) dan mencari lagi ahli-ahli yang berminat untuk bermain dengan mereka sehinggalah mereka menjadi band yang anda kenali pada hari ini. Mereka pernah keluarkan satu EP yang menggunakan nama band itu sendiri pada 2010. Album ‘Ke Mana Kita?’ dikeluarkan pada 2016 dan melihat jarak masa antara EP mereka dan album sulung mereka, album ini memakan masa yang agak lama untuk dikeluarakan.

Album ini dimulakan dengan single pertama dari album mereka, Kaya (feat. Ein Second Combat). Lagu ini mula terus tanpa sebarang salam pengenalan dengan jertian ‘gang vocals’. Mereka juga mendapat khidmat dari langenda punk, Ein dari Second Combat dalam lagu ini. Penampilan istimewa Ein dengan suaranya itu membuatkan lagu lagi ‘intense’ bunyinya. Dari segi intipatinya, lagu ini adalah lagu punk secara dasarnya. Ia menceritakan bagaimana rakyat marhaen yang kian tersempit dengan ketamakan orang golongan kapitalis.

Ke Mana Kita? Kita seterusnya dengan lagu title track album ini yang menceritakan bagaimana seseorang itu telah berubah menjadi hamba duniawi dan tidak malu untuk membuat apa saja demi memuaskan nafsu duniawi mereka. “Gentar pembayar pembayar gaji lebih dari Pencipta diri” tegur Eby, vokalis band ini bagaimana sesorang telah berubah menjadi hamba dunia. Lagu juga menanyakan siapakah kita jika kita asyik mengejar dunia. Lagu ini juga merupakan single terakhir dari album ini.

Ayuh Bangkit! Ajakan JCL untuk lagu ketiga dalam album ini. Lagu ini merupakan lagu semangat yang sesuai digunakan untuk chant pasukan sukan kegemaran anda apabila anda turun ke stadium untuk menyokong mereka. Lagu ini boleh juga boleh digunakan untuk montaj sukan yang sesuai untuk televisyen. Apa yang menariknya tentang lagu ini, bunyi liriknya sangat semula jadi dan tidak berbunyi ‘try hard’ macam sesetengah lagu semangat yang lain. Selain liriknya yang bagus, lagu ini juga disajikan dengan solo instrument horn (tidak pasti apa) yang enak di penghunjung lagu. Lagu ini merupakan single kedua daripada album ini.

So Long My Friend. Lagu ini bukanlah lagu selamat tinggal yang anda jangkakan Ia merupakan lagu selamat tinggal kepada suatu benda yang ramai pasti tidak boleh lepaskan, iaitu rokok. Lagu menjelaskan bagaimana seksa bagi si penyanyi untuk melepaskan rokok dalam hidup dan semestinya bagi ramai lagi orang yang lain yang cuba untuk berhenti merokok. “So don’t you reappear” diungkap berulang kali dalam lagu ini supaya rokok itu tidak membelenggu lagi hidupnya.

Sedikit pesanan dari penulis, merokok itu bahaya untuk kesihatan. Dekat kotak rokok tu dah banyak imej tunjuk bahayanya rokok tu, tak reti bahasa ke? Kalau nak merokok sangat pun, sila merokok diluar. Jangan merokok dalam studio atau venue gig dan buang puting rokok tu elok-elok, jangan buang kat lantai. Dahlah merokok, lepas tu jadi pengotor. Lagi elok tak payah merokok langsung, manalah tahu kalau duit yang disimpan tu boleh beli CD atau merch dekat gig? Okay, balik kepada album review.

Sekarang kita sudah tiba di pertengahan album. Sin Song, dari tajuk lagu itu sendiri lagu ini telah memberitahu apa ceritanya dalam lagu ini. Lagu ini menceritakan bagaimana seseorang itu mencuba atau telah mengambil sendiri nyawanya dan juga bagaimana seseorang itu telah memasuki ke dalam kancah dosa dan diberi amaran ia akan jadi lebih bahaya jika masuk lagi dalam ke jalan itu.

Siapa Harus Dipersalahkan? Tanya JCL. Lagu ini yang merupakan single ketiga daripada album ini. Lagu ini menceritakan seseorang hamba wang atau taik judi yang sanggup buat apa saja wang. Lagu ini memberitahu yang orang ini sanggup melakukan apa saja demi wang, dari bela dan mencuba tahyul dan naik angin apabila orang lain cuba menasihatinya. Bila dia kalah judi, dia pun cepat naik angin. Mesejnya di sini janganlah berjudi, bazir duit. Nanti takda duit nak masuk gig yang berbayar nak mintak masuk free? Banyak cantik!

Hikayat Si Polan menceritakan Si Polan yang sanggup berhutang banyak kali demi mengejar apa saja yang dia mahu. Apabila orang menegurnya, dia akan berkata “ku bukan penyamun, jaga mulut!” Mungkin Si Polan ini yang diceritakan dalam beberapa lagu sebelum ini. Mungkin juga lagu ini menceritakan tentang Najib dan skandal kewangannya yang sentiasa jadi bualan orang. Ada juga yang mengatakan lagu ‘Siapa Harus Dipersalahkan?’ juga tentang Najib.

Come of Age, barangkali boleh jadi lagu yang paling gelap dalam album ini selain Sin Song. Lagu ini berbunyi seperti satu scene dalam movie atau satu babak dalam pementasan teater. Ia berbunyi seperti seorang pemangsa (tidak kira lelaki atau wanita) yang cuba mengambil kesempatan terhadap orang lain atau mangsanya. Liriknya berbunyi seperti pemangsa itu sedang mencari seorang mangsa rogol untuk sebuah ritual ‘Come of Age’.

Kita sudah hampir ke penghujung album. Enemy’s flag, mungkin satu-satunya lagu yang berunsur politk dalam album ini, ia menceritakan tentang perang, persepi dan tipu daya dari kedua-dua belah pihak yang sedang berperang. “I’m not the enemy, that part is for you” memberitahu bagaimana kedua-dua belah pihak memandang masing-masing sebagai musuh. Lagu ini juga berbunyi seperti ia juga sedang menceritakan tentang pergolakan yang sentiasa berlaku di Timur Tengah.

Kini kita sudah tiba di penghujung album. Seperti setiap cerita, pasti ada penghujungnya. Joget, lagu penutup album yang cukup hebat untuk sebuah album yang sangat hebat. Lagu ini memberitahu yang setiap duka pasti ada suka dan sebaliknya. Dari segi lirik, ia berbunyi seperti lagu nasihat yang khas ditujukan oleh Ebi kepada keluarganya. Instrumentation dalam lagu ini sangat upbeat, manakala liriknya pula agak sayu. Suka dan duka, begitulah kehidupan, begitulah juga lagu ini.

Album ini penuh dengan lagu-lagu yang mempunyai mesej yang positif dan juga boleh menjadi teladan dan pengajaran bagi yang mendengar. Disaat-saat yang cerah, album ini juga ada sisi gelapnya. Jangan terpadaya dengan instrumentation dalam album yang kebanyakan catchy, upbeat dan mampu membuat anda menggerakkan kaki anda. Apabila meneliti lirik-lirik lagu dalam album ini, tidak semuanya positif belaka. Mungkin anda tidak sedar apabila mendengar album ini untuk kali pertama, cuba dengar beberapa kali dan pastinya semua akan Nampak wajah sebenarnya album. Walaupun album ini memakan masa yang agak lama untuk dikeluarkan, nampaknya masa itu sangat berbaloi kerana songwriting yang amat padu dan penulisan lirik yang amat bagus yang sangat rendah cacat celanya dalam album ini. Lagu-lagu berbahasa Melayu sangat enak untuk didengar dan lagu-lagu bahasa Inggerisnya pula pun juga begitu dengan transisi yang tidak kekok antara lagu-lagu kedua-dua bahasa. Benda yang paling menarik sekali tentang album ini ialah solo-solo yang menggunakan horn di dalam album ini. Apabila mendengar bahagian horn di dalam album, ada sedikit bunyi-bunyian jazz hadir di bahagian tersebut. Walaupun lead gitar di dalam album ini bagus, bahagian horn adalah bahagian yang paling menyerlah sekalai dalam album ini. Album ini juga tiada filler. Tiada satu lagu pun dalam album ini berbunyi seperti ia ‘dipaksa’ ditulis untuk memenuhi kouta lagu dalam album. Hanya 10 lagu di dalam album, tidak lebih dan tidak kurang yang membuatkan orang susah untuk memilih mana lagu yang bagus dan mana lagu yang tidak bagus.

Tidak mahu lagi untuk saya memuji album ini melambung-lambung. Saya sendiri yang secara peribadi tak kuat dengar lagu-lagu Ska Punk pun boleh tertarik dan kagum dengan album ini, mengapa tidak anda? Dengar sendiri dan saya pasti anda juga akan kagum dengan album ini. Tidak segan untuk saya memberitahu yang mereka ini lagi hebat dari P.O.H dari segala aspek, walaupun mereka antara band yang terawal membawa bunyi ini di Malaysia. Johny Comes Lately merupakan band Ska Punk yang terbaik di Malaysia dan album ini ialah buktinya.

Sangili Bungili Kadhava Thorae (SBKT) Movie review rating, worldwide box office collection. SBKT is a Tamil horror comedy movie written and directed by Ike Radha; grandson of 'Nadigavel' M.R.Radha and produced by Fox Star Studios and Atlee under his own production house A for Apple Productions. The film starring Jiiva, Sridivya and Soori in the leading roles. Vishal Chandrasekhar composed the music, the film started shooting during March 2016, and will be released at May 19th 2017.
