it was my birthday recently, but I wanted to give my friends a present instead. these Art Nouveau-inspired portraits show our characters from my very first D&D party: Dexmenos, Cassander, Deborah and (our beloved NPC) Allestades ✨

i've been surprising each of them with these on their birthdays throughout the year, and since mine's last it's time to post them! each character has a set of flowers based on their story and personality:

I am fabricating the backstory of my vampire priest sim and I am so crazy about him. This summary is nothing next to the tragically told story in my head but it goes like this: Years and years ago, a young and naive priest falls in love with a witch. Once the townspeople find out that she is a witch, they attack, abuse and excommunicate her. The priest, trying to protect the woman he loves, is attacked, insulted and beaten, and excommunicated with her. As the young couple search for another town to settle in, they are forced to stay in an abandoned, ruined town for a night. While camping in the woods, the priest goes to collect firewood and returns to find the pale, blood-drained corpse of his lover and a tall shadow with her blood on his coat. The tall man (Vlad) in the forest tells him not to be angry with the wolf for eating the lamb, and that it was those who excluded  it from the herd that caused the lamb's death. The priest, who has been taught all his life to love and forgive people, grasps the truth in that moment. Everything that has happened to him is the fault of the townspeople who expelled them. His lover's blood is on their hands. Recognizing Priest's intense change of heart and the potential of his hatred, Vlad finds him intriguing and instead of killing him, he turns him into a vampire. He then leaves the newly transformed Priest in the middle of the forest and tells him to take his revenge. Feeling endless hatred and an unquenchable hunger, the priest returns to his old village, kills everyone in the village one by one and disappears. 80-90 years pass and one day a priest appears in a church in Forgotten Hollow that has been abandoned for centuries. This priest, always with a calm smile on his face, "guides" the vampires in the town and no human who has ever been to Forgotten Hollow return back anymore - at least not as themselves. Vlad is the only one who remembers who this strange, godless priest is, and realizes that he's turned into an abomination that even he can't predict: Polite, sinister, heartless, and eternally empty inside.

Explaining one of VTMB paintings (pt 6)

WOMAN AND BEAR, lithographic poster in colors 1902 by Alphonse Mucha.

Alfons Maria Mucha (internationally known as Alphonse Mucha 24 July 1860 – 14 July 1939) was a Czech painter, illustrator, and graphic artist, living in Paris who was part of the Art Nouveau period, best known for his distinctly stylized and decorative theatrical posters, particularly those of the very famous French actress Sarah Bernhardt. Mrs. Bernhardt was not the model used in Woman and Bear. He produced illustrations, advertisements, decorative panels, as well as designs, which became among the best-known images of the period[1].

Art Nouveau is an international style of art idea was to break down the traditional distinction between fine arts (especially painting and sculpture) and applied arts. It was most widely used in interior design, graphic arts, furniture, glass art, textiles, ceramics, jewelry and metal work. After 1910 Art Nouveau appeared old-fashioned and limited and was generally abandoned as a distinct decorative style. In the 1960s, however, the style was rehabilitated, in part, by major exhibitions organized at the Museum of Modern Art in New York (1959) and at the Musée National d’Art Moderne (1960), as well as by a large-scale retrospective on Beardsley held at the Victoria & Albert Museum in London in 1966. [2] This 1960s PSYCHEDELIC ART NOUVEAU was used by many band for their poster and used art nouveau art works but with more saturated and vibrant colors rather than the soft color pallet these works initially had.

Photography was instrumental Mucha life and he often used the camera he bought during his time living in Vienna in the 1890s to help set up his composition by taking photos as references. Seen below is an example of this though it is not known if this photo of was used in the creation of Woman and bear.[3]

"I've travelled oceans of time to find you." Dracula, Dracula of Bram Stoker (Francis Ford Coppola)

I've always been fascinated by vampires and other creatures of the night. And being this film one of my favourites of the genre, I made this tunic-like dress a few years ago getting inspiration from the costume that the blonde bride of Dracula wears when tempting Jonathan.

This year, I went a step further and took this film as theme for the new collection of crowns I'll be listing on my online shop on Etsy August 4th for this year's Halloween. Other sources of inspiration have been pre-Raphaelite art, Art Nouveau's iconic Mucha illustrations, and La Belle Époque dramatism.
