DS9: "The Passenger" and "Move Along Home"

Holy Hannah we've hit one-fifty (ignoring various tens-forward and shore leave, shh) and to celebrate, Trek has given us...a real pair of stinkers. Damn.

First up, a Starfleet Doctor has someone's consciousness joyriding in their noggin. No, we've not re-watched "The Search for Spock", we were subjected to the utterly obvious "The Passenger". After that, two writers and plenty of research into games still couldn't deliver an episode that rises above mediocre in the infamous "Move Along Home".

Move Along Home first aired on March 14th 1993

I propose that since we have Threshold Day for Voyager we should have Allamaraine Day for DS9

This day we shall all post of Julian's noncommittal screaming, Sisko and Kira being nice to Dax, Dax sensually feeding Kira the antidote, everyone dunking on Bashir and Quark and Odo playing snakes and ladders for the lives of the senior staff.

im a Move Along Home defender until I die. I won't sit here and claim that its secretly some great episode but listen to me. listen to me. it isnt even a bad episode. its silly, and over the top, and a little bit stupid, but it isnt a bad episode. if you simply allow whimsy into your life then you will find that Move Along Home is a fun, unserious watch

also the reveal that the game was never actually deadly at any point is what really sells it. you cannot tell me that shit isn't fucking hilarious. they go through the traumatic magical game and Quark has to gamble with the idea that he might actually end up killing everybody if he isnt careful and then at the end they reveal that it really was just a silly game this entire time. thats golden

Allamaraine!

Some of these I would classify as just mediocre rather than bad— like Armageddon Game and The Storyteller (two chapters in the O’Brien/Bashir Bromance).

But I remember Profit and Loss as being the first Star Trek episode that I turned off mid-way through and never watched the rest. And it aired at a time when I would watch literally anything Star Trek related.
