In this series of polls Omar's songs will go head to head in a bracket style tournament until an ultimate winner is decided. All polls will be tagged #omar rudberg song contest and will be posted every other day on my blog.

I plan on posting each poll at 4pm EST and then reposting at 10am EST and again an hour before voting closes (3pm EST) so that everyone can get a reminder to vote before the 24 hour voting period closes.

list 10 songs you want other people to hear

maybe they’re your favorite songs or you think they’re classics or they are little known artists that you want to give more attention to. whatever your reasons or no reason at all.

ended up going for some of the better known songs and bands in my library, because i listen to a lot of indie and if i had to pick just ten to list out it would take me years to finish this. full disclosure, my music taste is all over the place—but hey, here are the chosen ten in no particular order.

la devotee by p!atd. this song is like a drug to me. if you told me i could listen to one last song before i died, a strong case could be made for la devotee.

hurts like heaven by coldplay. this has a bounce off the walls, psychedelic type of feel. i used to listen to it to hype myself up in the mornings because who even had energy for high school.

teeth by 5sos. if the bass in this song was a person i would fuck it. i would probably fuck this entire song, period, but the bass. the vocals. the lyrics. jesus.

freal luv by far east movement. i listened to this song instead of paying attention in calc. i ended up failing calc, but to be fair, math has never been my strong suit.

northern downpour by p!atd. i don’t have the words to describe the way this song makes me feel, but it makes my heart ache in the best way.

just one yesterday by fall out boy. top ten songs to blast with your windows down. singing along is required, not optional.

don’t stop me now (revisited) by queen. nothing feels quite like screaming the pre-chorus at the top of your lungs when you’re two shots away from being blackout drunk. plus i’m queer. i can’t not include queen.

clint eastwood by gorillaz. this song practically a classic at this point. everyone and their mom has heard it, but that’s exactly why i had to include it. i first heard about gorillaz as a kid and i haven’t stopped listening to them since.

drown by bring me the horizon. no, mom, it’s not a phase. i’m terrible at trying to describe these songs, but this one has stuck with me since its release. i had a pretty shitty job last year, the kind that makes me sick to my stomach with anxiety, but listening to bmth tuned out The Horrors long enough for me to get to and from work—so there’s that, i suppose.

we didn’t start the fire by fall out boy. i’ve recommended this before and i’m doing it again. it’s a cover of billy joel’s we didn’t start the fire, and aside from the events not being in chronological order, i’d say fob did a pretty good job. i wouldn’t trust anyone else to write an updated version of this song.

You forgot 'I'm so excited', which is one iconic queer song...I know it was a fan demand, but he still released it.

That's why I like that this song is in third person (from the female pov). He's not singing about himself in this song...But I get what you mean. I love songs that are unapologetically queer from queer artists, but this is just one song from his new album. We'll see what else he has up his sleeve.

(At least it's not as hetero as 'Alla ba ouff' 🤭)

That being said, we have to remember that Omar is queer but unlabeled, not gay. So it's justified if he ever chooses to sing a song about a woman sometimes too. I'd like it if he sticks with gender neutral lyrics, but it's his choice at the end of the day.

It’s all a preference on how you like your songs to be told. I prefer the personal approach, but everyone’s taste is different. I also have high hopes and faith, because I’ve seen him be unapologetic before.

Also, just because he’s unlabeled, doesn’t mean he’s into girls. Just saying.
