If you hadn't watched 5.11 don't read this. If you have then proceed. I'm not if this is a recap or review, but I want to say this is far from my favorite episode. I feel like Taye Diggs' exit from the show was well done, but far too abrupt. It was so sudden that it mirrored the true events of everyday life. Billy's death conveyed the actual turmoil of losing a loved one out of the blue. It showed how quickly one person could be alive and then gone the next. From how Spencer lost his chance to say a proper goodbye to how Billy's family was able to speak to him only for him to die a few moments later. Going further this will no doubt show more characters the importance of appreciating every day with the people they love.
Whether it be Spencer living for the moment and getting back with Olivia. Or Jordan and Layla finally coming out of dark and enjoying their time together for all to see. I don't know how the show writers plan to go from a funeral scene to a carnival. But in light of Billy sacrificing his life to save Jabari's, the carnival may be a way to honor Billy's life instead of mourning his death.
All I know is I hoped the show writers wouldn't kill off Billy, but after reading several articles about Taye Diggs' initial decision to leave the show, I won't spend too much time dwelling on Billy's death. Before tonight's episode aired, I had planned to publish a rewrite of the rage room scene with a somewhat happy ending. In light of the events of tonight's episode, I'm leaving the decision up to the readers. I know some people grow attached to their favorite characters, so I respect if some of you guys still need time to process tonight's episode with new Spelivia content.
But if some readers are looking for some lighthearted Spelivia content that wants that rage room chapter let me know. I will happily go through with writing it. As such remember to take what you can from tonight's episode as a eye-opener. Seize every moment like it's your last.

justice for sam
If the spnepisodebracket craze has shown us anything, it's that the supernatural fanbase is extremely divided, with the lowly sam stan seemingly at the bottom of the pile. sam is always last in polls, so this is a bracket for the 10% or so who always votes for him. because yeah, there's 327 episodes of Supernatural, but how many are popular because of a dean or destiel moment? how many good episodes are drowned out because they focus on sam?
i've chosen, with some crowdsourced peer review (special thanks to @spneveryseason, @suncaptor, and @ambersock!) 125 episodes that are Sam Relevant. Some are extremely sam-centric, some just have a shot where sam looks like he's being crucified that gives me brain worms -- i tried to be generous about it to keep a relatively even seasons distribution! matchups will be random and polls will last 24 hours each. in the tradition of @spnepisodebracket (who this is obviously inspired by and would not be possible without!) i'll try to rb a gifset for every episode in the poll!
a final note: no this is not that serious but the criteria for voting here should be how good the episode is as a SAM episode, not as anything else, so please vote accordingly! i am making this for people who actually enjoy sam and if that is not you, then this is not the poll for you!
with that out of the way, here is the compiled list of episodes! voting starts this sammy sunday, 3/26!

do you know significant dates for community episodes like for example december 10th for comparative religion (idk does make sense)
yes I think I get what you mean.
so, actually, for seasons 1-3, I’m pretty sure the dates the episodes aired, for the most part, line up with when the episode is meant to take place within the community universe. it's convenient that american networks have a similar schedule to the american school year, so it makes the timeline of shows set at schools line up pretty well with dates in the real world. this is no longer true for seasons 4-6, as they were likely pushed to midseason (making the season start airing in january/february and still end around may, making it half as long). so, for example, the season 4 halloween episode aired on february 14th, 2013. the halloween episodes for seasons 1-3 all, obviously, aired very close to halloween.
I do have some specific examples that support this, if the simple fact of the school year and network schedule lining up isn’t enough. as you said, in 1x12 comparative religion, they mention multiple times that it is december 10th. that episode did, in fact, air on december 10th, 2009. same with 2x11 abed's uncontrollable christmas; they mention that it is december 9th, and the episode aired on december 9th, 2010.
all this yapping to say: for seasons 1-3, a lot of the episode air dates are likely compliant with the in-universe set date. although, I do doubt that they had specific dates in mind for every single episode. it's just not super relevant. but, if you really wanted an estimate, I would consult this list of community episodes, which includes the date each episode was aired.
but, to more directly answer your question, I'm going to try to compile a list of episode dates I'm 100% sure about.
1x12 comparative religion: december 10th, 2009
2x10 mixology certification: december 4th, 2010
2x11 abed's uncontrollable christmas: december 9th, 2010
4x05 cooperative escapism in familial relations: november 22nd, 2012
not as long as I would have hoped, but ofc it's entirely possible there's things I missed.
to dive deeper, here's a list of episode dates I’ve speculated:
1x05 advanced criminal law: october 15th, 2009 (in contemporary impressionists, abed says that he and troy made a deal: "october 15th, friends don't lie to each other." this parallels their story in 1x05, and the 5th episode of season 1 being in october makes sense logistically in the canon. this episode also aired on october 15th, so it lines up in that way too. this episode does span across multiple days, though, so october 15th would just be one of the days included in the ep)
2x04 basic rocket science: october 16th, 2010 (this episode aired on october 14th, 2010, which is a thursday. they mention in the episode that it's a saturday, and the 16th is the saturday closest to the air date)
2x19 critical film studies: march 24th, 2011 (this is the date this episode aired, and is the generally accepted date for abed's birthday)
3x07 studies in modern movement: november 12th, 2011 (the episode aired on november 10th, 2011, which is a thursday. again, the mention in the episode that it is a saturday, and the 12th is the saturday closest to the air date)
3x10 regional holiday music: december 8th, 2011 (following the trend of the two previous christmas episodes, which took place on the last day of classes. again, this episode spans multiple days, so december 8th is theoretically the date of the episode's final scene)
5x11 g.i. jeff: november 20th, 2013 (this one is a little rougher. jeff's actual date of birth is a whole other can of worms, but it was originally listed as the same as joel mchale's, which is november 20th. a lot of people accept this as jeff's birthday. although, it is a little hard to justify for me, for one specific reason. if season 5 is supposed to span across an entire school year, and there's only 13 episodes, episode 11 should logically be sometime in the spring, not in november. so, either there is a months-long gap between episode 11 and episodes 12 & 13 (in order to make the finale line up with the end of the school year), or season 5 is only supposed to cover the first semester of the 2013-2014 school year. but, again, that is kind of weird, giving that all the other seasons cover the entire school year. the air date, however, is april 3rd, 2014. so. I could go on and on about theories on backtracking in the writers' room and whatever else, and I will if you want me too, but for now I think I've written enough. believe what you want about this one)
holiday episodes are kind of a whole other issue. you have to take the date of the actual holiday, the air date of the episode, and logically how the celebration would interfere with an actual school day, and try to extrapolate a canonical episode date. (ik I put the season 3 christmas episode in the list above, but I'm more sure about that one than any of the episodes I’m about to list) idk if you even want me to do this, so I’ll try to make it quick.
1x07 introduction to statistics: aired on thursday 10/29/2009, halloween was saturday 10/31/09. ep is centered around an after-school party, so I’d guess it's actually set on friday 10/30/09.
1x16 communication studies: aired on thursday 2/11/2010, valentine's day was sunday 2/14/2010. I’m pretty sure the dance is on a school day, so I’d guess it's actually set on friday 2/12/2010.
2x06 epidemiology: aired on thursday 10/28/2010, halloween was sunday 10/31/2010. I'd guess this dance was on either friday or saturday, although I have no clue which one. so, I'd guess either 10/29/2010 or 10/30/2010.
2x15 early 21st century romanticism: aired on thursday 2/10/2011, valentine's day was monday 2/14/2011. the episode description says it's set actually on valentine's day. I tried looking at liverpool v. man u soccer games, but the only one in the spring of 2011 is on march 6th, which is the opposite of helpful. all I know is it's set on a school day. maybe they actually did have a dance on a monday, or maybe it was the friday before (2/11/2011). who knows.
3x05 horror fiction in seven spooky steps: aired on thursday 10/27/2011, halloween was on monday 10/31/2011. based on vibes alone I think this one is set on a saturday, but idk. so, I’m guessing saturday 10/29/2011.
I'm not going to list the halloween and christmas episodes from season 4, because the season 4 timeline is so irrevocably fucked up. (it's the first time the show was pushed to mid-season, so the air dates don't match up with the canonical ones whatsoever, jeff "graduates a semester early," but they celebrate christmas and go into the spring semester while he's still attending school, etc etc etc). in conclusion, I wouldn't recommend trying to make any sense out of any season 4 canonical dates. whatever.
seasons 5 and 6 don't ever really mention specific dates (as far as I remember), and, like I mentioned earlier, they are half-length seasons, so the air dates don't really match up with the school years anymore, so it's all kind of up in the air. you could potentially try to go in and analyze things further, but I'm not going to do that right now. I could do it in the future if someone really wants me to, or if you guys think it's worth doing? but in this moment I don't think it's worth it. I’ve already written WAY too much to answer a simple question LMAO. anyway.
I do want to reiterate that there Probably aren't specific canonical dates in mind for most of these episodes. but yk. it's fun to speculate I suppose. I hope this was somewhat helpful, and I am once again opening the floor to anyone who has anything I missed 💯💯💯

Week #13 - my 4th post
Chapter 33 of Their Thing(s) by @thetourguidebarbie
1. Klaroline are soulmates. Takes place during 5x11 2. Klaus gives Caroline a necklace to remember him by. Also takes place during/after 5x11
Ok so, ALL of Their Thing(s) is amazing (please, please, PLEASE, go read it if you haven't already) but chapter 33 is my personal favourite and I cannot tell you how many times I have read it.
There are two drabbles featured and they are both perfect.
I love the soulmate trope and this was such an ingenious way of doing it. Werewolf mates finding each other through marks on their bodies, in a language that is unique to their species. Caroline assumes that Klaus' mate must have died centuries ago.... who's going to tell her? There is also claiming smut.
The second drabble takes place after Caroline's confession, during some pillow(leaf?)talk. One of the myriad of Klaus' necklaces is a dog tag. Which he got "because he wanted one," sigh oh Klaus.
As you can see, Angie never disappoints.
My favourite part of the drabble (lives rent free in my mind [in really needs to start paying my internet bill]):
"You weren't born in 1982, though," she said, cocking her head to the side, the question implied. "982," he said promptly. "May, so Taurus? Right?" she asked, grinning. He frowned. "Err-No. Not that it actually means anything, because in my vast amount of experience, it truly doesn't, but I'm a Capricorn." "May Fifth, though." He shook his head. "Fifth of January, love. The American calendar system is abnormal." "You're abnormal," she mumbled, elbowing him lightly
Ugh, you see!? It's so good that it hasn't left my head, and my bookmarks page, since 2015.

Anya Jenkins + Being like a moth to a flame (Self-destructive)
No you don't understand, I'm actually making myself sick thinking about Anya Jenkins' character arc. LISTEN so many of us love Faith and we talk about how self-destructive Faith is but I haven't seen anyone talk about Anya's self-destructive path yet. In s3 she's SO UPSET that she's lost her powers. She loses them in The Wish (3x09) and then in Doppelgangland (3x16) she's STILL begging for her powers back. D'Hoffryn tells her "Do not ask again." so I assume she's spent every episode between this one desperately asking to get her powers back. And all throughout this episode she maintains that she'll get them back for herself if D'Hoffyrn won't help. Then when we see her in The Prom (3x20) she's not looking for her powers anymore. I mean, outwardly she's claiming that she's trying to get them back, but her actions show otherwise. She's continuing to go to school. She's looking for a date to the prom. It seems she's resigning herself to mortal life again, and trying to acclimate.
But I think her interest in Xander is more than that if you look deeper. For 1,000 years Anya brought death and destruction and vengeance upon the men she witnessed hurt women. Her very last (failed) mission, the entire reason she came to Sunnydale, was to enact vengeance on Xander for Cordelia. Anya's attraction to Xander isn't random and it isn't just because he's a main character in this show we're all watching. She's just lost everything about who she is, everything she's believed in and done and worked for. I honestly don't think this is about Anya getting a crush because she's suddenly experiencing teenage feelings again the way the show seems to want us to think it is based on the dialogue (3x21 Graduation Day Part 1). Or at least, if that's part of it, that's not all this is. (The show dialogue also tells us for 4 seasons that Anya is "like this" because she's "newly human" but then we learn in 7x05 Selfless that Anya's always been like this.) So I don't think this is about Anya liking Xander. I think she's self-destructing. Anya's too smart, too protective of herself and her own well-being when she wants to be, and she's seen too much of men's wrongdoing for me to accept this was accidental or unintentional or the result of a tiny crush.
She's spiraling, hurting. She's drawn to him like a moth to a flame. Out of every guy in Sunnydale, from Anya's pov, this is the ONE GUY guaranteed to hurt her, the ONE GUY in Sunnydale she knows for a fact "deserved" vengeance enacted against him (based on everything Anya and Vengeance Demons believe in) ...and SHE GOES STRAIGHT TOWARD HIM.
And then she catches feelings. Despite herself, despite Anya canonically admitting that she was just planning to use and lose Xander (6x18 Entropy) she falls in love with him. And with that, she starts to actually gain other things in her life. Other reasons to stop self-destructing. Anya gets a job and she loves it! "I'm a working gal!" she says. "I have a place in the world now." (5x06 Family). She develops hobbies and interests. She loves the fact that she's an American now. She's obsessed with capitalism. She's a member of the Scooby gang. And she starts making other changes as well. Anya says, "I mean, I for one didn't want to start my day with a slaughter. Which really just goes to show how much I've grown!" (5x08 Shadow) And she's so distraught about losing Joyce. And she misses Buffy when Buffy dies. Despite all the death Anya's caused, she has reasons to view it as horrible now. And she's so in love with Xander. Her entire speech to him in 5x11 Triangle asking him not to leave, the wedding vows she wrote him, she initially pursued Xander at a dark time in her life when she was in a bad headspace and now she's so in love and she's finally SO HAPPY.
And then Xander leaves her at the altar. Anya pursued Xander knowing full well what he could do to her, how severely he could hurt her. She went after Xander not in spite of him being the one man in Sunnydale guaranteed to destroy her, but BECAUSE of it. Anya went after Xander because she had nothing left to lose and she wanted to be hurt, she wanted to keep spiraling further into the path of self-destruction. Only it didn't happen. Through her relationship with Xander, Anya regained a purpose. She regained a will to live. And then he left. She got what she initially wanted, at the exact wrong time: only after she had once again gained things she was scared to lose.
Anya Jenkins, former vengeance demon, wished Xander Harris would hurt her. And she paid dearly for that wish.
