I think layla, in general, is an extremely self-aware person. therapy is good for her because it forces her to confront what she already knows is going on with herself. for the most part, she's not making major discoveries. it's more about admitting to herself, and others, that these struggles exist. she puts a lot of effort into looking self-assured and in control (and we all know that control for her is something that she grasps at and needs at all costs), but she does have a lot of doubt as well.

her list of struggles (thank you cj) really exemplifies this, too. she blocked out her patience guilt for a long time to create her lounge, and once that was done, she had to confront all her worries and fears re: patience. these haven't gone away just because patience said they're fine. it doesn't work like that! she might (mostly) believe that patience does not hold it against her, but the guilt didn't just go away either.

three of those worries also relate to balance and figuring out how to do this. last season she also struggled with balancing work and jordan; this season, she's leaning more into that because trying to balance work and wedding planning. there is always more under the surface, but layla takes on too much and then falls apart trying to figure out how to fit everything into her schedule.

layla likes being busy because it blocks out all the noise. when layla stops being busy (or becomes too overwhelmed), she falls apart. she can't handle downtime because it means she's left alone with her thoughts and those are dangerous and bad. but if she puts all her energy into the studio or the lounge or a bunch of extracurriculars, she doesn't have time to worry about life! this, of course, does not work. she's finally learning that she can't keep doing this, can't keep bottling things up and ignoring their existence, because she'll fall apart of she keeps doing that.

back to her being self-aware to wrap this up: layla knew she was compartmentalizing, she knew she was pushing people away, she knows that she just needs to focus on this next task and just keep going. she THINKS she is in control, she THINKS she can break the cycle on her own, she THINKS everything is fine, but these are things she convinces herself of and needs other people to believe so she doesn't have to acknowledge how Not Fine she is. For the most part, she is very in tune of her actions and what they stem from. there are still surprises, of course, but she can typically figure out what happened, what was triggering her, and how she responded because of that. it's not just about learning actions that can help her manage these responses, and that's hard and scary and does not come naturally to her.

This episode was sooo good! Spencer really is a true leader and I love how Jordan is growing to be more assertive! Then getting good mentors who put them first >> Also Asher is SUCH a great coach. His growth since s1 is beautiful!

I also love that Olivia brought up the affair and she and Grace talked about it! Also missed Denise a lot, so it was a treat to see her. Not to mention the Spelivia content is A+. Jordayla is making me sad tho. I’m hoping Layla doesn’t have a romantic plotline with t that coworker.

Also love seeing Preach back as well. Same with Jabari. Seeing Wade back is a little 😬😬 and very shocking, given the way he was just…I’m hoping he’s grown more at this point haha.

Sorry to be that person but I Will be inserting layla into every baker twin + spencer moment re billy. She literally talked about going to him for advice even when her own dad was home. Billy was like a second, in some ways more present, father to her. He was so important to her! And he loved her, too!
