WOW! This book was absolutely amazing. As shown on the cover, this novel is told from 17 different points of view. Everything ties in together which is pretty cool since it’s coming from 17 different authors. Now, obviously they work together to write this but it all flows SO WELL!

This novel is about a school shooting. It’s dark; but not necessarily disturbing. Throughout the chapters, different characters tells their experience with the shooter (and main character?) Kirby Matheson and how it had affected them. Some chapters give some background and have some paragraphs talking about years that have passed. Some focus more on Kirby. And some are focused on how the shooting impacted them and even their families.

I highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys true crime. Although this story is fictional, stuff like this has happened too many times to count. (Plus, true crime shouldn’t be consumed or written for entertainment purposes anyway, so this is a good compromise.) This novel reminded me a bit of Thirteen Reasons Why by Jay Asher. Probably because of the different points of view and how each character had some sort of connection to Kirby.

Fredrick Daniel Gruver, III

Fredrick Daniel Gruver III passed away at age 44 at his home in Dallas, Pa.

Freddy was born April 25, 1980, in Kingston, Pa. Freddy loved working for Matheson Transfer Moving and Storage Company. He also loved fishing and spending time with his family. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting, camping, nature and music festivals.

Freddy loved and adored his wife, Dana Gruver, and their dogs, Barnabas and Lucky. Freddy was an amazing and legendary best friend and big brother. We are all blessed to have been a part of his life.

Freddy is survived by his wife, Dana Gruver; mother, Mary Alice Langan; sister, Deejay and Kevin Partash; brothers: Jeff and spouse, Samantha Gruver; Sean Gruver; Joseph and Stephanie Titus Gruver; nieces and nephews: Brandy, Carroll, Amberlyn, Kasilyn, Kevin Jr. and Kyle Partash; Rose, Joseph Jr., and Cole Gruver; grandfather, Fredrick Daniel Gruver Sr.; aunts and uncles and lots of cousins.

Freddy was preceded in death and reunited with his father, Fredrick Daniel Gruver Jr.; grandmother, Dorothy Jean Gruver; grandfather and grandmother: Francis and Rose Langan; and brothers and sisters: Jessica, Mark, Marytheresa and Richard Gruver.

Private services will be held at a later date through Hugh B. Hughes & Sons Inc. Funeral Home, Forty Fort.

My 2023 Reading Stats

My goal was to read 12 books. I read 45 total!

I read mostly authors I'd never read before. I made a significant dent in my purchased TBR. I read 5 classics. I read 7 genres.

I checked out 3 books from my local library.

I did not finish 3 books. Les Liaisons Dangereuses, Lolita by Vladimir Nabokov, and Anna Karenina by Leo Tolstoy.

Reasons: LLD the two main characters were getting on my fucking nerves so bad. Valmont leave that woman ALONE! Also, the epistolary style does not make for active reading.

Lolita. I mean, take a wild guess.

AK. To many characters with the same name, I also signed up for one thing, but it's about a whole bunch of things.

I read the longest book I've ever read, Gone with the Wind. I thought it would take a year. Surprisingly, it took a month. December 22nd to January 22nd. I took four days off because the racism was getting on my nerves. I also sometimes just missed a day or two.
