Finnley 'Finn' Shore
Name: Finnley Shore Nickname: Finn Love Interests: Tahyo Gaspard, Sera Shore Appearance: Pale skin, copper hair, blue-green eyes. Finnley tends to bundle up in jeans and t-shirts, or slacks and jumpers. She can, does, sometimes wear surf-suits but she much prefers to wear simple things she can hide under a rock near the dock when she does go swimming. Height: 6'0 History: Finnley 'Finn' Shore has always been a little afraid for her life. So when she finds herself chased by Shark Hunters, the same shark hunters who killed her family, she swims towards safety, leading the men into what she can only describe as a swamp. There she meets Behemoth, who looks ready to eat her until she swims past and heads for shore, the creatures eyes locking on the men aiming guns at the shark who powered past. She's on the shore by the time Behemoth kills the men, Sera finding her collapsed on the dock and moving to help her. That's the day she meets Tahyo, Sera having run for shore from the side of the lake that nobody expects her to come from, crossing Tahyo's land to crouch by her lover, soon to be wife, and calm her as gently as possible. They have both been through a lot, but when Tahyo speaks gently, she dares to hope she might finally be safe.

leon was like a bulletproof vest --- words just bounced off him. he didn't give a shit what anyone thought of him, what anyone had to say. no one else mattered ... bar rose. hybrid managing to weasle her way into his heart and making a home in it. seeing her about to go nuclear, and as attractive as that was, he didn't want a fight on his hands. Are there any characters where you've thought: in another universe, if these two had met first, they might have been interesting to write about?
There are a few, honestly. Every time I write Robbie and Willy interacting, I'm reminded that they get along famously. (Not surprising, really, considering Willy and Georgie have a lot in common with each other), and Robbie/Matty was genuinely considered. I could be convinced to ship Jared Matheson with half of his friends if Bryce hadn't been so clearly it for him.
And of course, it's a setup was originally intended to be Joey/Owen. It genuinely was. But then Scratch started talking and his banter-y chemistry with Joey was so compelling and fun to write that it changed the entire direction of the series.
Growing up in fandom, I'm pretty mellow about pairings (not an 'OTP or death' shipper here), especially with small fandoms where you can't be picky or you'll have nothing to read.
In fact, back in the day, when I was feeling stuck on what to write I'd write a bunch of names on strips of paper, separately do the same with some prompts, pick a couple names, a prompt, and boom, there was my fic writing exercise for the day.
Some combinations really didn't work, and the writing was deleted at the end of the day. Some surprisingly did, and became proper fics. Either way I had fun, wrote more than I would have otherwise, and usually learned something new about the characters.
I think that exercise would apply itself pretty nicely to the YCMAL 'verse, especially since, with very few exceptions, every character already has a pretty major thing in common. Well. Two. Hockey and also, with even fewer exceptions, being completely unreasonable people.

Book Review Wolfsong (Green Creek Book 1 of 4) by T.J. Klung
TLDR go read this book. Seriously. Just go. Run to your local Barnes and Noble or Amazon and just buy it.
So the whole reason I even found out about the Furry Fandom is because of my love for Werewolves as a teenager. Werewolves are my jam. Gay werewolves are my peanut butter. There's one problem.
Most gay werewolf fiction is written by women. That on it's own is not a bad thing. But it also involves a lot of M-Preg. I'm not going to kink shame people who are into that but it's frustrating that the majority of gay werewolf fiction is all m-preg stuff. I get that the omega verse is popular but it gets old.
So when I realized this new author I was getting into had written a gay werewolf book, i was like fuck yeah. So I downloaded it and now Listened to the whole series audiobook style multiple times. I've listened to all 4 books at least 4 times. I have a problem.
Anyway, so the first book centers around Oxnard (Ox) Matheson. The book starts when Ox is a kid and he catches his dad packing to leave. The dad tells Ox he regrets everything in his life except Ox. He tells Ox he's a good kid even though he's a bit dumb and then leaves to never return. The next scene is Ox calling a guy named Gordo. Gordo is super important. We love Gordo. He's the asshole with a heart of gold. Gordo owns a garage in town that Ox's dad worked at. Ox calls Gordo and basically begs him for a job even though he's underage because they might loose the house otherwise. Gordo and his mom work out a deal where he can work for Gordo under the table and Gordo will pay his mom to help keep the bills up. It's hinted that Gordo pays Ox way more than he should so all the bills are caught up in a couple of months. Gordo also has a tendency to under charge for services if he knows his customer can't afford it. On top of that, also working for Gordo is Tanner, Chris and Rico. We also love these three because they are the comedic trio that keeps things light. The auto garage gang along with Ox's mom become his sort of family, helping him to deal with life and all that as he grows older.
Some weird stuff happens, like a mysterious creature that growls at him in the forest before running away and meeting a weird dude named Mark Bennet who scents the air a lot. But the big event is when he turns 16, he runs into a small boy who immediately takes a liking to him and starts asking why he smells like candy canes and pinecones. and epic and awesome. This is when Ox is introduced to the Bennet family. And as he gets closer to this family, he is told that the boy, his name is Joe, hadn't said anything for 15 months before meeting Ox that day because he was kidnapped and tortured.
I won't go into too much further detail because I don't want to spoil it. But this story has a lot of angst for a bit. So be prepared for that. There are two sex scenes at the end of the book when ox is in his mid 20's. But I love this book. With every fiber of my being. If you're a fan of found families, werewolves, a little bit of well deserved angst in the middle and a lot of random cuddling, then you will love this book. I also highly recommend the other books in the series as well. Also TJ Klung's other books are awesome too. They are for the most part queer supernatural stories. If you like more comedy themed books, the Tales from Verenia series is hilarious. These books make me cry happy tears and are just great examples of queer books written by queer people.

Things in Top Gun: Maverick that drive me crazy.
“The Fastest Man Alive” scene
Hold My Hand being in (almost) every scene
How Let’s Dance fades in when Penny shows up
The way Penny says “you must be in a lot of trouble”
How Rooster searches Hangman’s face at the Hard Deck
The look Coyote gives Fanboy when he laughs
The way Hangman looks when Phoenix, Bob, Payback and Fanboy leave the pool table
The way Hangman closes the doors
Mav almost falling off the boat
The way Hangman’s hair looks when he says “you’re not flying fast enough”
Rooster’s face slowly dropping after Maverick says “Exactly” cause he thought he had him there for a sec.
How we know what “it’s come back” means right away
The way Iceman smiles during the “who’s the better pilot” part
Don’t get me started at the beach and how Jay Ellis isn’t there
How everyone tackles Hondo
The way Penny leaves the door open and walks away (it’s just so hot!!)
Maverick’s voice trying to wake up Coyote and how panicked he sounds
Same for when he’s telling Phoenix to eject
Warlock’s face when he gets Maverick’s attention to tell him about Ice
How Rooster and Hangman are still sitting after Mav’s run
Warlock’s pupils being blown out to hell when he tells Mav he’s right where he belongs
How Rooster looks over (probably over at Phoenix and Bob) right before the squad is named
How even Cyclone is surprised by Maverick choosing Rooster
Rooster searching Hangman’s eyes when he gets the “You give ‘em hell” line
John Matheson written on something behind Rooster when he talks to Mav right before the mission
How Miles Teller is halfway strapped in and is always hopping off the seat
How Bob calls out the missle on Mav’s six
Hondo’s little tear
Mav leveling Rooster after making sure he’s okay
Wave and Smile, wave and smile.
How Rooster celebrates Splash 2
HOW HANGMAN AND COYOTE USE THE SAME PLANE (105) IN THE MOVIE
The eye fucking between Hangman and Rooster after Rooster and Mav crash land
Miles is so good at acting with his eyes and I don’t just mean his eye fucking skills
How the verse in Hold My Hand starts when Mav touches Penny’s hand

James Taylor, Karen Matheson and Dougie MacLean Ring out 1997 with “Auld Lang Syne”
Twenty-six years ago tonight, James Taylor took a back seat to home-country singers Karen Matheson and Dougie MacLean as they performed “Auld Lang Syne” to close BBC Scotland’s “Hogmanay” program.
Like most versions of the perennial song, this one is wistful, a marked contract to the rowdy, in-their-cups audience members who hoot and dance to the music in their heads as Taylor, Matheson and MacLean wrap up their work night.
Taylor, who sings background and cedes verses to his hosts, has spent the last few weeks releasing individual tracks from this show; whether his vault series continues in 2024, we’ll have to wait to learn. In any event, this is an appropriate end to 2023, but, it is hoped, not the archival releases.

Review : “Plugged In” an EP by Indycysive
On December 16th, 2022, local hip hop artist Indycisive dropped his EP "Plugged In". A cohesive album that has to be listened to from start to finish in the order it is presented in.
The project is filled with intelligent lyricism that touches on the choke-hold social media has on modern day society; placed on top of a digitally inspired sounding backdrop. It uses creative sound bites throughout the project that helps take the listener inside the artist’s mind as he shares his thoughts on the digital world; how it has people chasing trends for likes and comments, and scrolling through our timelines that make us envy the lives people portray themselves as having on their socials, whether it's true or not, and how he copes with what is considered “the norm” in this digital era.
What i love and appreciate about this project the most is that in terms of each individual track, there are almost no hooks, and only one obvious chorus present in the entire project; one that cleverly suits the statement he's trying to make in that particular track. To me it proves that the only thing Ben Matheson (Indycysive) sets out to do with this EP was to make the listener think.
While there is nothing wrong with songs that have structure within themselves, such as a verse, a hook, a chorus, and a bridge, it is refreshing to see an artist not afraid to throw all of that out of the window, to tell a story and release it. Art, for art sake.
"Plugged In" both musically and lyrically is a brilliant body of work. One that in my opinion, deserves a visual project to match up with it! There is one music video for the opening track "Enter The Matrix", but i think this project definitely gives potential for a visual project of the EP as a whole.
Indycysive gets his point across throughout the project, but even if that wasn't the case, he makes sure to end the project with a clear and simple message that i think all of us can relate to; "Sometimes you just gotta unplug and live in the real world for a bit. You know?"
Cheers!
-xx Deon (MusicInYEG)

wait, sorry, more questions! thinking about jared "my perspective is soooo objective and not at all biased or limited ever why are you guys laughing?" matheson has me wondering about unreliable narrators in the ycmal-verse in general (mostly because it's a particular favourite literary device of mine and i think you use it so well in basically all of your writing)
i'm curious how you would rank your protags in terms of like, least to most unreliable in their own narration; are there sub-categories of 'unreliable' you would apply to different characters? also wondering who you would say is the most subtle in their unreliability/if you've noticed readers accepting certain perspectives more readily or without question?
They're all fucking liars. Every last one of 'em. Even if they're only lying to themselves.
Except Gabe. Gabe has blind spots, but he continues to be my most reliable son. (Dan also tries to be honest, but he misses more than Gabe does, and knows himself less.)
I don't have a scale, per se, but there's definitely an interesting thing where some characters are believed more than others when they're all blinkered narratives in their way. Everyone knows say, Mike and David are not being honest -- they'll both straight up lie in their narratives -- but others get taken at face value more, even though they're no more reliable.
Jared gets believed a lot, actually, far more than someone who basically goes 'unless this matters to me personally I'm throwing it right out of my narrative'. What are your teammates' names, Jared Matheson. Would you even remember the name of your sister's boyfriend if he wasn't one of your best friends.
Roman got believed more than Harry but I think people trusted Harry more, oddly. (Maybe not oddly: Harry acknowledges his own faults up front so you don't have to! But this is a dude who not once, not twice, but THREE TIMES got smacked in the face with 'I find this person really annoying I guess I hate them? ...aw fuck wait I wanna kiss them'). Joey straight up doesn't use quotation marks at points because he hasn't acknowledged that his internal monologue's left his head. He's so untrustworthy even the punctuation is a lie. Georgie, like Jared, is very precise in what he includes, but unlike Jared, that's less 'I noticed nothing else' and more 'I am omitting this'. It's not any more or less reliable, really -- the difference is that with Georgie, there's a narrative being crafted in his own head. (Robbie does the same thing, though I'd say he's a less reliable narrator than Georgie is, particularly pre-Saul, due to him shoving everything into a drawer to compartmentalize and then slamming it shut.)
And it's fun writing James and Holden because every time Holden talks people waver, and then every time James talks they waver right back. Both of them are honest in their way! Neither of them would give you a proper narrative on their own, though -- cards on the table is intimately tied up in how imprecise and flawed communication can be, and the way their perspectives bounce off one another as much as they connect is a big part of that.
