A Sunday, for Audio Dramas, perchance?

It's been a while since I did an Audio Drama Sunday post, mostly because it's been a long time since I've been able to have an Audio Drama Sunday. Recently, Sundays have become my running days. Because my headphones aren't wraparounds, I have to wear a beanie or headband or something to keep them from bouncing out somewhere on miles 5 or 10 or whatever in between. However, because of the oppressive frontera heat recently, wearing anything on my head is a no go, so no headphones, no audio dramas, nothing but the sinister whisperings of my own subconscious thought bubbling and boiling to the surface to trouble and toil. I wore a beanie today and well, the run didn't go well. But I did get some audio drama so it's not a total loss (and it was 5 miles so it's not like it was nothing).

So, without further ado...

Hello from the Hallowoods - I'm on a HftHw relisten, well just starting over really, and I'm on episode 3: Books. It's fun to listen to all these little bits and pieces as individual stories before they start getting woven together into larger narratives. Quite rewarding!

A Game of One's Own - Maddy Searle dances on the line between TTRPG actual play and audio drama perfectly. They belong in both realms and there's not a lot of podcasts I think can actually do that. The first two episodes, Mountaintop Isolation, are very reminiscent of Until Dawn, with the same chance of death and dismemberment and horror. There's an equal amount of gameplay mechanics and roleplay that are both immersive and engaging. It momentarily helped me forget I was running up and down a hill in 90-degree weather at 9 in the morning.

Re:Dracula - Finally, finally, finally, I'm able to listen to this super popular series. Not sure why it took me so long to start, but I will blame so many audio dramas out there and so little time for me to actually listen to all the things I want. It's kind of like a TBR pile. You can never read all the books you want, you can never listen to all the audio drams you want. I listened to the bonus episode first, the "Vampire Hunter" interview and I have to say, I'm impressed with how immersive it is and how deep the worldbuilding is. Love it!

Totalus Jeffianus - a history podcast built on a huge in-joke from another history podcast. How the hell could that work? Well the history of the Jeffs of Rome is something people want, they've already had 10 episodes so far so that should tell you something. The first episode's audio is a bit janky and a bit quiet but I'm hoping that will improve as the episodes come out. Low quality audio at the start of a podcast is very nearly a history podcast must.

66B - This is an audio drama that makes my Bearchive brain go a bit crazy. It's a podcast almost no one has heard of in this "modern" era of podcasting (at least I never see it on recommendation lists), and the first three episodes are missing. I want, no no no, I NEED to know more about this podcast. The audio is a bit janky in places that makes me wince a bit and I have no idea who anyone is. Two girls, at least one is a witch (or mage), there's a landlady, and a demon who lives there but doesn't pay rent and is helpful(ish)? They live in a haunted flat that seems like a power nexus? It feels similar to shows like Saffron and Perri, Haunted House Flippers, and the Aletheian Society, maybe they were an unconscious inspiration? Who knows. Speaking of, if anyone, anyone knows where I can find the first three episodes, I would be in your debt, the Bearchives needs this show and it needs the first three episodes!

Hi just sending a message to say that I love the show and I wanted to ask a quick question. Are there any crossovers you've considered doing with other podcasts?

Hi there! SO happy you're loving the show!

We're a bit of a tricky case with crossovers because of, well, *gestures in historical fiction at the many amazing shows set in fantastical worlds, modern day, and/or space* but with some creativity and potentially a multiverse situation, we'd love to do some crossovers one day!

If you go check out @starsfellradio's crowdfund campaign, which is currently still running, you'll notice that one of the stretch goals is actually a crossover between Where the Stars Fell and Fawx & Stallion! Their show is full of ineffable beings who have existed throughout history, including Gabe and BB who were bouncing around Victorian London at the same time as our gang, so we've tossed around some ideas for if that stretch goal were to get the greenlight! So if anyone wants to hear that, we're very much trying to make it happen!

It would require a bit of finessing with timelines and alternate universes, but we do love @kingmakerpod--it would be roughly 22 years in the future for our characters, so on one hand tricky to avoid spoilers for what we've got planned, but on the other hand, silver fox James Stallion, so very compelling...

We're also HUGE fans of fellow Victorian comedy-mystery @victoriocity (we even have a few small nods to the show coming at the end of the season) but again, we'd require a portal of some kind given their alt-history vibes. Other teams we'd love to do some sort of timeline silliness with: Forgive Me! and @ameliapodcast (both shows are the reigning crossover champions--if you love AD crossovers, there are no shows doing it better or more consistently than them), and @goodpointepodcasts's Two Flat Earthers Kidnap a Freemason (conspiracy theories existed in Victorian London!), some of our absolute faves!

“Demanitus destroyed his life’s work before he died,” she says softly, lifting the cover. “When his sons summited Mount Ghisa to claim their birthright after his death, the story goes, they found the estate burnt to the ground and moldering as if it had lain abandoned for centuries. Nothing remained of the great library but scraps. Torn fragments. A handful of singed pages that would not burn.”

“I didn’t… know that.”

She tuts. “There have always been… whispers of more, hidden away for the worthy to find. Secret archives in the Aletheian Tower, and other such fanciful tales. Wishful thinking, for the most part.”

Our campus originally didn't allow sororities. Instead, we had literary societies, which were focused on specific campus publications, like the yearbook or our campus literary magazine, the Coraddi (the name of which is taken from the first letters of the first three literary societies, the Cornelians, the Adelphians, and the Dikeans). Each society had their own initiation rites. This set of pledge rules, from the scrapbook of Emily Morgan Manlove, represents the rules for the fourth society, the Aletheians.

There are some interesting implications with the crossovers between Middle: Below, Glasgow Ghost Stories, and The Aletheian Society.

Assuming all podcast crossovers are canon has some interesting implications.

Ed Tucker, looking for a weird town, could've easily ended up in Crestfall instead and would probably be following news on the Ghosthouse, which is of course drawing attention away from the fact an entire trainline in Boston is legally it's own city now. The SCP foundation is keeping tabs on all of them. No knowledge of these events will survive to when Automnicon owns half the known universe.
