Controversial opinion, but I don't think Birdie Wing is yuribait. *dodges gunshot* Golf is their form of communication and interaction. Golf is what the two girls are—it's literally their method of seeing and contextualizing the world. *ducks under swinging blade* You can't separate Eve from golf; there isn't an Aoi without golf. *parries pitchfork thrust* When they combine their shots at the end of the show? *rolls through your attack soulsborne-style* That is the kiss, that is the sex scene; they literally become one and birth a child!!!

Seeing them do normal couple pda would be kinda weird and out of character, actually?

(Yes, I understand that lesbians not being allowed to kiss on-screen is an issue that straight couples don't face, etc. etc. Would a kiss have been nice? Sure. Was it necessary? I don't think so.)

(Guess I'll also use this opportunity to say that I don't share the criticism that the second season felt rushed. There's only so far that golf can escalate—seeing more than we did would've made the show lose steam. The reason we don't get to see all the old rivals reappear for a final match is because they've been surpassed. This isn't a sports anime, it's an anime about being the ultimate practitioner of a sport [THERE IS A DIFFERENCE])

The relationship between Eve and Ichina continues to be one of my favorite aspects of this season. The trust that the two of them have demonstrated with each other really warms my heart, and you can see how they've each made each other stronger. It's impossible to imagine the Eve of Season 1 being willing to make a decision like this, but she's able to put her trust in what Ichina tells her. And Ichina in turn is able to turn off the logical part of her brain on the 18th and fully put her trust in Eve's golf being able to push through.

And at the end, Eve obtains an even greater power, one that stuns Leo as he realizes that Eve has managed to reach the golf that he and Kazuhiko could never visualize. Eve has now fully surpassed her mentors and reached the ultimate level of golf.

I want to be clear here. This is going on a decent way after that last scene, Eve’s plane is taking off at the end of it. Where has Rose been? Oh, you know, SITTING IN THE DESERTED WAREHOUSE AND PIER DISTRICT, as you do.

This is a woman who has had AMPLE opportunities to get the hell out of dodge, and even to MEET WITH SOMEONE if that was what she wanted to do, and she chose to arrange a meeting with her ex-mentor, FOR SUNDOWN IN THE DESERTED WAREHOUSE AND PIER DISTRICT.

To call this passively suicidal would be to understate the amount of EFFORT she is taking to go out in the single most narratively dramatic way possible. Rose Aleon has thought about her options and chose this, because Rose is NOTHING if not committed to the bit in the name of drama.

And you know what? I can respect that for this fictional character. She leaves one HELL of a lot bigger an impression on me because of how she dies here than she would have otherwise.

Because. Obviously she dies here. She’s arranged things so that it is the maximum amount of convenient for the mafia hitmen to kill her. Her role in this story is over, and so she will not even TRY to run. She’s going to see her mentor one last time for closure, look back on her life with regret for a few seconds, and get gunned down by the Golf Mafia.

RIP to Rose Aleon. She died as she lived: In the single most dramatic way one could conceive of.
