bisexuality was actually invented with Catherine Zeta Jones and Antonio Banderas in The Mask of Zorro (1998)

Similarities between horse scenes from two of my favorite movies: Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade and The Mask of Zorro
1. Hero calls for horse by whistle

2. Horse comes at the call

3. Horse assumes the position to receive its rider

The Mask of Zorro and The Legend of Zorro were literally my childhood, but now that I'm watching them again as an adult, I'm realizing baby me had absolutely no fucking clue what was happening in them lol

Yes, he gets shot in the arm at the end of the last season. Otherwise he is "limited" to being wounded by several sword blows, a snake bite, a poisoned blade, an authentic Indian beating, a fall from a ravine... He even manages to break his leg trying to fight a bull with a broom 😂!
It’s kinda comedic how Zorro just can’t get shot, BUT I have not watched Zorro: New World, because I just could not get into the actor playing Diego so maybe that Zorro gets shot?
But 1957 he never does, 1998 Antonio’s Zorro doesn’t, neither in the comics I have read.

The Mask Of Zorro (1998) 8/10
Tumblr media
On the run from the men who killed his brother, Alejandro Murrieta (Antonio Banderas) seeks the company of Don Diego de la Vega (Anthony Hopkins) who trains him to be the next Zorro, a masked outlaw/hero of the people. However, Alejandro isn't the only one who is out for revenge.
Let me just say that Antonio is eye candy.
On a more serious note, this movie is entertaining, with eye catching sword fights, and several chases. Anthony Hopkins' appearance here is very stark compared to Silence Of The Lambs. Here he appears friendly and homely, the type of man you'd probably see on your morning walk. Compared to Hannibal Lector, whom you just want to rot in prison for what he did. He plays the mentor to Antonio's Alejandro, a brave, yet slightly naive person who just wants justice done to avenge his brother.
Catherine Zeta-Jones's Elena is so elegant, and soft spoken. She has moments of anger, and her fierce personality comes through at times, but she just wants peace, if anything. She's well rounded, and not easily swayed as she makes herself look. She's underestimated by the men in the film, but she finds a way to prove them wrong, in her own way.
The character Zorro is also the inspiration for Puss In Boots, also another character that Antonio Banderas plays. The hat, the signature 'Z', the boots and cape, are all stark references with Puss. (However, Puss uses a 'P' instead of 'Z').
There's not much thinking involved; this is a movie about getting revenge, really. That would be one of the themes. Another theme would be successor and mentor. There's also racism, sexism, and how the rich will do anything to stay rich, while keeping the poor people poor. All of these speak for themselves.
This is a good, funny, romantic action movie to watch, especially if you're bored.

Aaaaaaaand because I haven't been on Tumblr in two weeks..... here I am catching up on my old challenges :) Thank you, @valiantarcher!
1. Three non-romantic duos: Inigo Montoya and Fezzik (The Princess Bride, Diego de la Vega and Alejandro Murrieta (The Mask of Zorro), Indiana Jones and his father Henry Jones (Indiana Jones)
2. A ship that might surprise others: Draco Malfoy and Hermione Granger from Harry Potter (I didn't know anything about the series when I read an amazing fanfiction about them, and by then it was too late hehe)
3. Last song: "Cé a Chuirfidh tú Liom" by Arcanadh
4. Last film: The Bishop's Wife (1947)
5. Currently reading: Tales from the Gas Station: Volume 4 by Jack Townsend
6. Currently watching: nothing at the moment, but I plan to start Monk soon
7. Currently consuming: trail mix (M&Ms, peanuts, and raisins)
8. Currently craving: crispy fried chicken, roasted potatoes, and crusty muffins
Anyone who sees this and would like to do it is more than welcome to do so :)

One of the problems with consuming so much Zorro material is the inconsistencies...
Zorro is Diego de la Vega (with or without the "de la" in the surname), unless he's Alejandro Murrieta, who learned to be Zorro from Diego de la Vega. Alejandro is the name of Diego's father, unless it's the name of the guy he taught to be Zorro after him. Joaquin is Alejandro's brother, but also his son. Diego is the first Zorro, except when he wasn't. He's also the only active Zorro, except when he's not.
He has a mute butler name Bernardo, who is pretending to be deaf as well in order to act as Diego's spy. He matters a lot to the story, except when he doesn't matter at all and isn't even there.
Zorro's primary love interest is Lolita, except when it's Elena (who is Zorro's daughter) or Anna Maria or Moneta. She's his childhood friend, except when she's not. Diego is charming and flirtatious, pretending to be an "unmanly" pacifist, except when he's pretending to be an extremely dull fop/dandy suffering from terminal ennui.
His mom is rarely, but not never, alive.
The Capitán is the primary villain, except when it's the Governor, or the Magistrado. The Sergent may or may not be a good guy.
The story takes place in *handwave* 19th century California, sometimes the 1820s, sometimes the 1830s, sometimes the 1880s or '90s.
Anyway, it's a lot. XD Still picking and choosing which aspects I'm leaning into, but as I said before, 78 episodes of Disney series has left its mark... of Zorro. X3
