Let Us Never Speak of It Again - Out Hud
Out Hud's 2005 Let us Never Speak of It Again is a pretty dancy record that reminds me of bands bands like !!!, The Rapture, and Hot Chip. A product of its time, there is a song titled "Dear Mr. Bush, There Are Over 100 Words for Shit and Only 1 for Music. Fuck You, Out Hud", which is an instrumental and doesn't explicitly state the band's reason for a disdain of George Bush, but considering the timing would have been early on in the unnecessary Iraq war I assume that would be at least a part of it. My favorite song is How Long.

Welcome all to curtain call, at the opera - today marks the 17th anniversary of Kamelot's Ghost Opera!
Highlighted text on the picture: "Ghost Opera came out on 04.06.2007 via SPV"
/That's apparently the European release date./
Hey, hey, the (best) record I share a birthday with has been thrown upon ya! Now, in 2007 I was still an annoying just-out-of-kindergarden kid that only listened to Alestorm (the magazine is from my father's collection), but a few years later I was delighted to learn this fact!
My Top 3 song recommendations from the usual version of the album:
The Human Stain
Ghost Opera
Anthem
Bonus:
youtube
My absolute favourite song from Ghost Opera - Season's End (Spotify link). This video is my best deep-dive find from Kamelot and I just wish the quality was better, because Tommy Karevik's version is just as good as Roy Khan's original!
#Kamelot#album anniversary#music recs#Is this my favourite album from the Roy era? Honestly it's complicated#cause I also looove Poetry for the Poisoned and The Black Halo is the absolute classic from this time.#but yeah I'd say so#I love its dark and heavy themes and I think the bonus tracks elevate it to another level#Season's End is probably my most favourite Kamelot song with Roy#along with March of Mephisto and Elizabeth#I'd love to hear which songs are your favourites from this album!#album of the day#favourite album#favourite band#symphonic metal#power metal#music recomendations#music poll#musicposting#Youtube

today's song: 15th july, 2024 - 'Sunburn' by Dominic Fike (2023)
'genius' description: On the title track of the album, Dominic talks in greater detail about his upbringing in Naples, Florida. The first lyric ‘hold on, misdemeanor’ is most likely a nod to his time spent in prison, and also sheds light on what it was like growing up where he did. The line between receiving a scholarship and getting arrested was thinner than it should be, and he intertwines the theme of sunny weather to fully show the listener a glimpse into his past life.
personal thoughts: i always talk about how great the album is, and i honestly mean it every time. this album was one of the best releases last year, and deserves every ounce of love possible. it is summer, burns, cool water and sleeping with the sun on your face all at once. fike is an insane talent that i think is being super slept on. now, this song...! his flow is insane, he holds this wonderful cadence that perfectly fits the production, which is so intricate and purposeful. really love this track!
what about you? how familiar are you with fike's discography? did you like this album, if so, what are your favourite tracks?
if you like this... weezer, red hot chilli peppers, steve lacy, remi wolf, clairo

Haven by Marianas Trench has been my new fave for a bit. To get the full value of each song, you have to listen to the album in order because a bunch of the later songs incorporate motifs from previous tracks.
Its fantastic.
it bothers me that you often don't really hear about people having a "favorite album" the way they might have a favorite movie or favorite video game

First Moog Quartet - Gershon Kinsgley
The album First Moog Quartet by Gershon Kingsley is an exceptional example of music made in the first decade after the inventions of the Moog and Buchla synthesizers. The synthesizers used were analog modular synthesizers as photographed on the album art.

Love for the unknown is what brought me up here Where air is so thin that we can barely breathe But better not look down... But this time you went too far
Hell, this was gooooood! Literally the best way to start my morning. I mean, the premise was very interesting but I also thought it a little too dramatic. Now I may start to think it was deserved after all...
To put it simple, the whole album was inspired by a mountain climbing accident that occurred to the main composer/lyricist - frontman Francesco Paoli, in 2021. What I didn't expect is how nice the execution would be - there's a great balance between more relatable stuff (the arrogant idea that "nothing bad would ever happen to me" in I Can Never Die) and the overly-dramatic parts that are as if straight out of an opera (Matricide 8.21). Not to mention the signature careful mix of orchestra and metal. I'm impressed and definitely contemplating getting the CD once the local shop has it.
I don't know if any of my Tumblr friends likes symphonic death metal, but I wanted to get that out of my system and recommend this album - hey, it can be a gateway into the genre! :D Seriously, it's a nicely fleshed out record with curious lyrics, if nothing else.
Specific song recs: Morphine Waltz, At War With My Soul, Pendulum, I Can Never Die - also if you have time, you want to consider looking into the lyrics, too, in my opinion :)
#that was the greatest first listen in some time for me#honestly the situation really reminds me of the new album by Visions of Atlantis#it may not be revolutionary for the band but the obvious completeness of it brings a lot of satisfaction#or maybe I just hate it when an album's second half is weaker - and there's no such thing here#fleshgod apocalypse#symphonic death metal#technical death metal#death metal#my thoughts#music recomendations#album of the day#new album#Spotify
