“…one day she asked him about something he had never mentioned, something he had deliberately left out of his narrative—the noise the passengers made after being thrown into the water. ‘Finally I saw him turn sombre. “You have to forget the screams,” he said quietly. “You have to forget the screams or you’d go crazy.”’”

The Library of Broken Worlds
A girl matches wits with a war god in this kaleidoscopic, thought-provoking tale of oppression and the cost of peace, where stories hide within other stories, and narrative has the power to heal — or to burn everything in its path.

welcome to the crew of The Glass Usurper
i am the captain prince Percival Grimm, explorer of nothing, with no clan to my name and nO SUNKEN BLADE TO INFUSE WITH MY ICE MAGIC
our enchanter Caldwell, the Nocturnal kinda intimidates me. when she said she was a warlock i was expecting long silky wizard robes and a cool witch hat but... this is cool too i guess? idk i dont want to question her about it
our navigator, Mueller the Good, was the first deckhand i hired, and i trust her implicitly. shes stuck around through a couple cycles of deckhands before the current crew existed (there have been a couple problems with previous deckhands that i wont get into)
i definitely do also put a lot of trust into our cannoneer Albert the Fearless. shes helped the crew get out of more than a few battles
last is our shipbuilder, Pate the Paladin. i always imagined paladins to be a lot brighter and using the power of the sun or whatever but who am i to question him. he does a very good job keeping the ship protected. i think hes kinda cool, he first arrived in some cheap leather armor but i had some extra money to give him some real metal armor and he chose this dark bronze armor, i think it looks nice on him :^)

Dr. Marie Maynard Daly (April 16, 1921 - October 28, 2003) was born in Queens, New York to Helen and Ivan Daly, and was the first African American woman to earn a Ph.D. in Chemistry. Her parents were committed to her education and encouraged her interest in science. She attended Hunter College High School where her teachers persuaded her that she could do well in chemistry.
She earned her BS in 1942 with honors from Queens College. A fellowship and part-time job at Queens College allowed her to work on her MS at New York University. Because of the shortage of male scientists during WWII, she was awarded funding for her Ph.D. program at Columbia University where she studied under a white female chemist, Mary L. Caldwell. She completed her dissertation.
She earned an apprenticeship with Dr. A.E. Mirsky at the Rockefeller Institute but she was required to find her funding source. She applied for and won a grant from the American Cancer Society and began working with Dr. Mirsky in 1948. The two worked together for seven years studying how proteins are built inside the body. In 1955, she moved back to Columbia and worked with Dr. Quentin B. Deming researching the chemical mechanics of heart attacks. In 1960, the two moved to Albert Einstein College of Medicine at Yeshiva University where she taught biochemistry courses and studied the effects of age on the circulatory system. She was awarded tenure in 1971. She married Vincent Clark (1961).
At Albert Einstein, she became a champion for diversity, working to increase the representation of minorities in science. She retired in 1986. She was made a fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science and was named one of the Top 50 Women in Science, Engineering, and Technology by the National Technical Association in 1999. #africanhistory365 #africanexcellence

Jikyoku Iinkai (時局委員会)
322) Japanese Committee on Trade and Information, Japoński Komitet ds. Handlu i Informacji został zatem rozwiązany 22 sierpnia 1940 r. Jednak federalne dochodzenie w sprawie japońskiej propagandy, które rozpoczęto w listopadzie 1941 r., odkryło prace, które Japoński Komitet ds. Handlu i Informacji podjął w latach 1937–1940.

Paul's taste in women
Blonde/Redhead
Paul is not the clean chap he wants the world to see, his love of blonde women and his general dislike of the crowds are not told.
— Jimmie Nicol
No doubt Paul is obsessed with blonde. It fits his sexual fantasy of Brigitte Bardot that in his official biography, he didn't say anything about his Liverpool steady girlfriend Dot Rhone but her being a blonde. Recently I nearly mistaken a picture of Nancy for Heather Mills because she dyed her hair blonde, too.
Although Paul doesn't have redheaded girlfriend other than Jane Asher, he seems quite fascinated by it. In 2007 he asked 16 dancers wearing red wigs in his music video.
I met Jane Asher when she was sent by the Radio Times to cover a concert we were in at the Royal Albert Hall - we had a photo taken with her for the magazine and we all fancied her. We'd thought she was blonde, because we had only ever seen her on black-and-white telly doing Juke Box Jury, but she turned out to be a redhead. So it was: 'Wow, you're a redhead!' I tried pulling her, succeeded, and we were boyfriend and girlfriend for quite a long time.
— Paul McCartney, The Beatles Anthology
Big Breast
Paul loves curvy women.
Lean Face
Contrary to typical straight men's taste as the first two, Paul doesn't seem to like womanly looks. After his early exploration (Dot, Iris, Jane), most of girls he dates are bland, lean-faced ones, sometimes looks like a man.
Dot Rhone, Iris Caldwell, Jane Asher
Francie Schwartz and Maggie McGivern
Peggy Lipton and Linda
Nancy Shevell and Heather Mills
Tall
Jane 5′ 6″
Linda 5′ 9″
Heather 5′ 8″
Nancy 5′ 10″
He doesn't like short ones.
If there’s anything to add, it’s his obsession with hairy armpits.

1. Nine year old Vicky Stewart of the Tsimshian nation was killed at the United Church residential school in Edmonton on April 9, 1958 by school matron Ann Knizky, who hit Vicky over the head with a two by four. 3. On January 5, 1938, Albert Gray was beaten to death by Reverend Alfred Caldwell of the United Church of Canada when Albert took a prune from a jar without permission. Albert was eleven years old. His body was buried in secret behind the Ahousat Indian school and Alfred Caldwell was never charged.
4. On December 24, 1946, the same Principal Caldwell kicked 14 year old Maisie Shaw to her death down a flight of stairs at the United Church`s Alberni residential school, as witnessed by Harriett Nahanee. The RCMP covered up the murder.
5. On April 3, 1964, Richard Thomas was sodomized and then strangled to death by Catholic priest Terence McNamara at the Kuper Island Indian school. Richard was buried in secret in an orchard south of the school, and Terence McNamara, who is still alive, was never charged.
6. Elaine Dick, age 6, was kicked to death by a nun in April of 1964 at the Squamish Indian school in Vancouver. The RCMP refused to press charges when requested by the victim`s family.
7. Daniel Kangetok, age 4, was infected with an untreatable virus as part of a Defense Research Board experimental program funded by the Canadian military. He was left to die at the Carcross Anglican residential school in the Yukon, in February of 1971.
8. David Sepass, age 8, was pushed down some stairs by a priest at the Kuper Island catholic school and left to die, early in 1958.
9. A newborn Cree baby was burned alive by a senior priest at the Catholic Muscowegan Indian school near Regina in May of 1944, as witnessed by Irene Favel. The priest was never charged.
10. Susan Ball, age 5, starved to death in a closet at the United Church Edmonton residential school during the winter term of 1959, after being confined there by a church matron for speaking her own language.
11. Pauline Frank, age 8, died from medical experimentation performed by Canadian army researchers at the Nanaimo Indian Hospital in March of 1972. Her body was buried in secret on the grounds of the hospital, which is still restricted military property.
12. Albert Baptiste, age 9, died from electric shocks from a cattle prod wielded by a catholic priest at the Mission residential school over Christmas in 1951.
13. Nancy Joe, age 14, died from involuntary drug testing by military doctors at the Nanaimo Indian hospital in the spring of 1967.
14. Lorraine white, teenager, was gang raped by United Church residential school staff and left to die, Port Alberni, summer of 1971.
15. Eighteen Mohawk children, all under the age of sixteen, were shot to death by Canadian soldiers outside Brantford, Ontario, in the summer of 1943, as witnessed by Rufus McNaughton. The children were buried in secret in a mass grave.
16. Johnny Bingo Dawson, an eyewitness to crimes in Anglican residential schools and a leader of protests against these criminal churches, died of injuries from a police beating after being threatened by them, in Vancouver on December 9, 2009. Official cause of death was alcohol poisoning, despite the absence of alcohol in his blood.
17. Ricky Lavallee, the eyewitness to Bingo’s beating by the Vancouver police, died of a blow to his chest in early January of 2011.
18. William Combes, an eyewitness to the abduction of ten children by Queen Elizabeth from Kamloops Indian school on October 10, 1964, was killed by a lethal injection at St. Paul’s catholic hospital in Vancouver on February 26, 2011.

20. Nora Bernard, the first aboriginal in Canada to sue the Catholic church for residential school crimes, was murdered in December of 2007 on the eve of Canada`s official spin doctoring of the residential school genocide.
… and more than 50,000 others, all of them children.
No-one has ever been charged or tried under Canadian law for any these killings. And the criminal government and churches responsible for this mass murder have been legally absolved of any responsibility for them under Canadian law.
Nothing has been healed. Nothing has been reconciled. Justice has been exterminated as completely as these innocent victims.

movie recommendations
because I randomly feel like it.
The Hunt for Red October (1990): Adaptation of Tom Clancy's book of the same name. Stars Sean Connery (Marko Ramias), Alec Baldwin (Jack Ryan), Scott Glenn (Bart Mancuso), James Earl Jones (James Greer), Sam Neill (Vasili Borodin), and also has several other actors I like. Since this is a Marvel blog, I will add that Stellan Skarsgard, the actor for Erik Selvig, is Tupolev. During the late Cold War, the Soviet Union built the Red October, a massive submarine built with new technology so that SONAR could not detect it. Ramias, captain of the Red October means to defect to the United States. Ryan, a CIA analyst, deduces this and has to prove his theory to the US Navy before it's too late.
Ocean's Eleven (2001): Remake of a 1960 film, Ocean's 11. Stars George Clooney (Danny Ocean), Brad Pitt (Rusty Ryan), Matt Damon (Linus Caldwell), Julia Roberts (Tess Ocean), and Andy Garcia (Terry Benedict). Again, Marvel blog, I'll let y'all know Don Cheadle is in it as Basher Tarr. Danny and Rusty plan a $160 million heist of a Vegas casino owned by Benedict, the lover of Danny's ex-wife Tess. They assemble a team to steal the casino's money
Hunt for the Wilderpeople (2016): Adaptation of the book Wild Pork and Watercress by Barry Crump. Stars Sam Neill (Hector or Hec), Julian Dennison (Ricky Baker), Rima Te Wiata (Bella), and Rachel House (Paula). Again, Marvel blog, so I'll tell you it's directed by Taika Waititi. So he has a cameo in it that is hilarious. Hec and his foster son, Ricky, don't get along all that well. After a crazy turn of events leaving Ricky and Hec stranded in the New Zealand bush for a couple weeks before social services were supposed to pick up Ricky, the authorities assume Hec kidnapped Ricky. The two live on the run in the bush and grow close. It's a Waititi movie, meaning that it is a comedy used to discuss a more serious topic, in this case chosen families. It is hilarious and had me laughing so much when I watched it.
Invictus (2009): Based on John Carlin's book Playing the Enemy: Nelson Mandela and The Game That Made a Nation, which is in turn based on real life events in South Africa. Stars Morgan Freeman (Nelson Mandela) and Matt Damon (Francois Pienaar). It is shortly after apartheid and Mandela's election as president. There are lots of racial tensions in South Africa and Mandela wants to find a way to unite the country. Mandela decides to help the national rugby team win the 1995 Rugby World Cup in order to create something both whites and blacks can agree on and hope for together.
The Sixth Sense (1999): Stars Bruce Willis (Malcom Crowe) and Haley Joe Osment (Cole Sear). Malcom Crowe is a child psychologist trying to help Cole. Malcom eventually learns something supernatural is happening. Can't say too much, I don't want to spoil it since it blew me away.
Hatari! (1962): Swahili for "danger." Stars John Wayne (Sean Mercer) and Elsa Martinelli (Dallas). Sean and several others are professional game catchers in Africa. Dallas, a photographer, shows up unannounced. A series of funny events happens afterwards.
Swiss Family Robinson (1960): Based on Johann David Wyss's book The Swiss Family Robinson. Starring Johann Mills (Father Robinson), Dorothy McGuire (Mother Robinson), James MacArthur (Fritz Robinson), Tommy Kirk (Ernst Robinson), Kevin Corcoran (Francis Robinson), and Janet Munro (Roberta). A Swiss family is on a boat to New Guinea when pirates attack and the ship flees into a storm. They shipwreck not far off from an island. They have to build a life for themselves on the island and learn to love the island. But they have to be careful - the pirates are still out there.
Darby O'Gill and the Little People (1959): Based on Herminie Templeton Kavanagh's Darby O'Gill stories. Stars Albert Sharpe (Darby O'Gill), Janet Munro (Katie O'Gill), Sean Connery (Michal McBride), and Jimmy O'Dea (King Brian). Darby captures King Brian, king of the Little People, who grants Darby three wishes. At the same time, Darby's landlord sent Michael to live in the townhouse and expected Darby to move elsewhere that required less maintenance now that Darby is old. Katie and Michael start to fall in love.
