Mostra GAM Torino 24 marzo- 4 luglio 2004
ORANGE FOOL
For no reason whatsoever, enjoy this recipe for Orange Fool, taken from the website of George Washington's Mount Vernon:
Made with such fruits as gooseberries, strawberries, and raspberries, fools have been popular desserts in Britain since at least the early seventeenth century. According to food historian C. Anne Wilson, they were served as part of the second course in the eighteenth century. Renowned food historian Alan Davidson wrote that “oranges were added to the list of fruits” used in fools during that period.
This modern adaptation is based on a recipe by Hannah Glasse. It was created by culinary historian Nancy Carter Crump for the book Dining with the Washingtons.
Ingredients
4 large eggs
1 cup fresh orange juice
3/4 cup sugar
1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/8 teaspoon ground nutmeg
2 cups heavy cream
2 teaspoons unsalted butter, softened (optional)
2 oranges, peeled and segmented
Directions
1. Beat the eggs until light. Add the orange juice, and combine well. Blend in the sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
2. Scald the cream (bring just below the boiling point) over medium to medium-low heat, stirring to prevent burning.
3. Very slowly, add 1/2 cup of the hot cream to the egg mixture, whisking steadily. When well blended, stir it into the hot cream. Cook over low heat, stirring constantly until it thickens enough to coat the back of a spoon. Do not let it boil, or the eggs will curdle. Remove from the heat, add the butter (if desired), and pour into a bowl. Set aside to cool, stirring occasionally.
4. Chop about 1/2 of the orange segments, and drain in a colander. Fold into the cooled custard, and pour into a serving dish. Cover with plastic wrap, and set aside in the refrigerator to chill for at least 2 hours before serving.
5. When ready to serve, top the fool with the remaining orange segments.
Serves 6 to 8

Four hotel employees who allegedly pinned a man to the ground after he behaved erratically in a Hyatt Regency lobby in the US state of Wisconsin are facing murder charges.
D’Vontaye Mitchell, 43, ran into a women's bathroom before staff dragged him outside, beat him and held him face down on the ground for eight or nine minutes, according to court documents.
Mitchell was unresponsive when police arrived at the scene in Milwaukee on 30 June. He was later pronounced dead.
He died of “restraint asphyxia and toxic effects of cocaine and methamphetamine”, found a post-mortem examination that also noted he was morbidly obese.
Milwaukee County district attorney’s office issued arrest warrants on Tuesday for the four now-former employees at the hotel.
They are two security guards, Todd Alan Erickson, 60, and Brandon LaDaniel Turner, 35, who was off duty at the time of the incident; as well as Devin Johnson-Carson, 23, a front desk agent; and Herbert Williamson, 53, a door attendant, according to court documents.
If convicted, they each would face up to 15 years and nine months in prison.
The incident unfolded when Mitchell entered the hotel and began running around, attempting to hide in places.
He went into the gift shop, then a women's bathroom, where he tried to lock the door. Mr Turner told police he heard women screaming in the toilet.
Video surveillance footage showed hotel workers forcing him out of the bathroom and dragging him outside through the hotel lobby.
Two of them repeatedly struck Mitchell and another kicked him, according to the court documents. They are apparently heard in a bystander’s mobile phone footage telling him to "stay down" and "stop fighting”.
Mr Erickson told investigators that Mitchell had tried to bite him.
Mitchell is heard saying he is sorry during the struggle, according to audio from a video taken by an onlooker.
One of the employees said Mitchell was having difficulty breathing and had been pleading for help, according to the charge-sheet.
Ben Crump, a lawyer representing the family, said: "Mitchell was in the midst of a mental health crisis and, instead of abiding by their duty to protect and serve, the security officers and other Hyatt staff used excessive force that inflicted injury resulting in death.”
Mitchell's widow, Deasia Harmon, told reporters on Tuesday she was "grateful" for the charges.
"I just want everyone to be held accountable," she said.
The company that runs the hotel, Aimbridge Hospitality, has previously said several employees were fired over Mitchell’s death.

LGBTQIA Historical Romance Novels for Winter, Hanukkah, Solstice, and Christmas! - Updated December 19th, 2018
Christmas Angel by Eli Easton (*Book One of The Christmas Angel series) (I thoroughly enjoyed this Georgian era romance. There is a great group of supporting characters, and this manages to delve into period-typical homophobia, without weighing down the hopeful message of the story.)
- When John Trent, a dedicated member of the new Bow Street Runners, finds an exquisite carved angel floating in the Thames, he can’t stop thinking about it. He tracks down its creator, a sad and quiet young sculptor. But neither the angel nor the sculptor is done with John just yet. The blasted angel refuses to leave him be, behaving not at all like an inanimate object should. Alec Allston is resigned to the fact that his love will ever be a river that flows out and never flows in. All he wanted to do was create a special gift so that a small part of himself could be with his unattainable and noble beloved, always. But when the gift keeps showing back up at his shop in the hands of a windblown and rugged thief-taker, Alec will need to reconsider his conviction that love is destined to remain an ethereal ideal. This book is one of seven stories which can all be read and enjoyed in any order.

A Christmas in Kent by Paul Alan Fahey (Part of the Lovers and Liars set, which entails espionage in WWII.)
- It's December 1941. Caroline, Cyril, Edward, and Leslie are home from their recent exploits on the Isle of Man and are now happily ensconced in their cottage in Kent. Feeling safe from the ongoing horrors of war, if only temporarily, Caroline finds herself surrounded by people she loves and who love her, so she counts her blessings and immerses herself in the spirit of the season. She trims the holiday tree with her newly wedded spouse and makes a last minute shopping trip into London. Other family members are busy, as well. Samson and Delilah -- the group’s adopted pair of shelties -- are running amok in The Peasant’s Revenge and causing the pub’s patrons no end of displeasure. Leslie and Edward have a chance encounter with a child who is separated from her parents in Germany and lives nearby with a foster family. Then there’s that something bothering Caroline that simply can’t be ignored much longer. Christmas in Kent will indeed be full of surprises.

As Christmas Day draws near, Thomas and his friend Andrew begin to realize they are more than merely close friends… and those feelings are not only a threat to their social positions, but, in Victorian England, to their lives as well.
Summerfield’s Angel by Kim Fielding (*Book Two of The Christmas Angel series) (This one takes place between a cowboy and the son of a retail magnate, with some nice details about 1880′s NYC, and the sort of class differences we usually only see in romances that are based in London.)
- After the hard winter of 1888 ended Alby Boyle’s work as a Nebraska ranch hand, he returned to New York City in search of his long-lost family. His mother and brothers are nowhere to be found, however, and after Alby’s years of absence, Five Corners no longer feels like home. His prospects seem as dim as the nighttime alleys. A Gay Fairy Tale by Christina Lee and Riley Hart (This one is set in an alternate world, where it’s always winter. Has a nice bit of hope at the end, when Merrick challenges his kingdom’s preconceptions.)
- As next in line for the Evergreen crown, Prince Merrick Davendall’s future involves ruling, marriage, and producing an heir of his own. But he’s long been tormented by desires that are far from princely. Especially when the beautiful Cassius is promoted to be his new valet, and Merrick is struck by a longing like never before—a longing to know him far beyond royal and servant. After his father’s passing, Cassius Havendale’s sole duty is to provide for his family. A promotion to serve a pampered prince is something he endures only for their sake. Surely Prince Merrick has no understanding of the true suffering of the common people, nor could he possibly understand what it’s like to desperately desire something he cannot have. Except the prince is not at all what Cassius imagined. Kind, humorous, and caring to those in need, he also shares Cassius’s affinity for the arts. In fact, Merrick understands his deepest vulnerabilities in a most remarkable way. As their affection deepens, the underlying tension between them becomes unbearable and they’re unable to ignore it any longer. But when the queen prepares a lavish ball with all the eligible ladies in the land in attendance, Merrick must fulfill his obligations to his country, and Cassius has the needs of his family to consider. They’ve long known their stolen moments would have to come to an end, but are they ready to give up one another and the idea of a happily-ever-after?
His Regelence Rake by JL Langley (Book Three of the Sci-Regency series)(I love this whole series, but this one was given a holiday theme at the end, and it makes for a lovely HEA background to the story that develops throughout re: the stables.)

The Mistletoe Kiss by Ruby Moone (My favorite LGBT historical Christmas romance. An MC with a disability, and a beautiful May/December romance that evolves from friends to lovers.)
- By 1816, widowed bookseller Lawrence Fenton has spent a lonely lifetime hiding who he is. He has convinced himself his feelings for his far too young, gorgeous, but troubled assistant Christy Shaw are nothing more than pride in his protégé and concern for his plight. Christy’s life involves walking fine lines: one between his mother and his abusive stepfather, one where he must keep his needs hidden, and hardest of all, one where he must keep his feelings for his serious employer to himself. Lame since birth, Lawrence cannot imagine anyone wanting him, least of all Christy. But when Christy’s life threatens to spiral out of control, Lawrence steps in. Then Christy’s emotions spill over into a kiss under the mistletoe at Christmas. Will Lawrence be able to face the long-buried truth about himself and keep Christy by his side?

Harry’s warmth makes Charles face up to the demons in his past and shows him that he can have a family. All he has to do is persuade Harry to stay. But Charlie knows that, despite whatever Harry says, he’s the wrong kind of angel for happy endings.
The Christmas Curse by Ruby Moone (A dose of cheer and magic for a lonely man at Christmas.)

A Gentleman’s Agreement by J Roman (This had one of the best endings I’ve read, very sweet, and the whole story is one of low-dose period-typical homophobia.)
- Thomas Derrik is about to have the worst Christmas of his life. Three days before the holiday, he finds out the father he doesn’t get along with is arriving on Christmas Eve, his ex-lover and new brother-in-law will be staying at his estate until the New Year, and his beloved brother, Edmund, has died. But why would a man such as Foreman choose to target reviews published in a small bookshop's magazine? Aigee is determined to find out. Naturalist Embleton Hall is running from demons of his own. He doesn’t expect to find himself drawn to Captain Maxwell--but the two men form a bond that will become essential to their survival.
Together, they'll brave the elements on a long and harrowing voyage to discover the fate of the lost ship Vanguard. But they'll also learn that some secrets are best left frozen in ice.
*The Christmas Angel Series (info below the cut)
In 1750, a master woodcarver poured all his unrequited love, passion, and longing into his masterpiece—a gorgeous Christmas angel for his beloved’s tree. When the man he loved tossed the angel away without a second thought, a miracle happened. The angel was found by another who brought the woodcarver True Love. Since then, the angel has been passed down, sold, lost and found, but its magic remains. Read the romances inspired by (and perhaps nudged along by) the Christmas angel through the years. Whether it’s the 1880’s New York (Kim Fielding’s Summerfield’s Angel), the turn-of-the-century (Jordan L. Hawk’s Magician’s Angel), World War II (L.A. Witt’s Christmas Homecoming), Vietnam-era (N.R. Walker’s Soldier’s Wish), the 1990’s (Anyta Sunday’s Shrewd Angel), or 2018 (RJ Scott’s Christmas Prince), the Christmas angel has a way of landing on the trees of lonely men who need its blessing for a very Merry Christmas and forever HEA.

October’s weak economic recovery could be the calm before an even worse storm

October’s weak economic recovery could be the calm before an even worse storm
By Sarah Crump, Alan Berube, MaryAnn Placheril Although the U.S. economy has gradually recuperated over the past few months, a record new wave of COVID-19 cases—most notably in the Midwest and Northeast—began to take hold in October. That wave appears to have slowed the rate of economic recovery, as some localities and states consider reimposing lockdown restrictions while consumers pull back. The latest numbers from our Metro Recovery Index point to a weakening regional economic picture, even ahead of the alarming caseload and hospitalization peaks occurring in November. A nationwide COVID-19 surge in October, especially in the Midwest and Northeast After declining in most metro areas in August and September, the average daily number of new COVID-19 cases rose in 146 of the nation’s largest 192 metro areas in October. This fall uptick was most pronounced in Midwestern metro areas, which saw an additional 11 cases per 100,000 population each day in October versus September. The largest increases in cases over the month occurred mostly in midsized metro areas across the Midwest and Texas, including El Paso, Texas (73% increase), Sioux Falls, S.D. (61% increase), Green Bay, Wis. (36% increase) and Rockford, Ill. (36% increase). By October, Midwestern metro areas shot well past the South’s metro areas in their combined daily per capita case rate (Figure 1). The Northeast also experienced a significant uptick in COVID-19 cases over October, with an additional five cases per 100,000 population each day. Though still well below the Midwest’s rate of increase, the upticks in these regions parallel with health-expert predictions that cold weather would force more activities indoors, accelerating the virus’s spread. Job growth slowed, especially in some regions heavily affected by the virus After plummeting in April, U.S. job totals bounced back in May and June. But job growth tapered throughout the summer—a pattern that looks to have continued into the fall. Across the metro areas tracked in the Index, nonfarm employment increased by just 0.58% in October, down from 0.74% in September. In most metro areas—155 of the 191 where jobs data was available—employment increased from September to October, but no metro area exceeded 2.5% job growth, and most failed to meet even 1% growth (Figure 2). Just two of the 191 metro areas—Ocala, Fla. and Ogden, Utah—had recovered to their pre-pandemic February 2020 employment levels. Job growth flattened most across Midwestern (0.39%) and Northeastern (0.34%) metro areas in October amid rising case counts (Figure 3). Steady (if unspectacular) job growth continued in metro areas in the South and West. And while there did not appear to be a relationship between the trajectory of COVID-19 cases and employment in metro areas in October (perhaps because job counts were recorded in mid-October, before cases began to spike again in many metro areas), major COVID-19 hot spots such as Sioux Falls, S.D. and Green Bay, Wis. ranked among regions suffering the most significant job declines that month. Job postings continue to increase over the month of October Despite slowed growth in employment, job postings grew significantly in October. In all but seven of the 192 largest metro areas, job postings increased from September to October; in 51 of them, postings increased by at least 10% (Figure 4). These increases did not seem attributable to seasonal fluctuations—in 2019, postings dropped by nearly 5% from September to October. Rather, demand for workers in fields that tend to post positions online appears strong, with more than half of the 192 metro areas registering more postings in October than in February, before the pandemic. Moreover, postings rose most rapidly in the West and Northeast’s metro areas, while growth lagged somewhat in the Midwest. Rising postings in October signaled some employer optimism about the need for workers, but it is unclear whether employers will ultimately hire for those positions with so much uncertainty on the horizon amid climbing case counts in November. Small business activity has not noticeably improved since August The latest Index data indicates that the COVID-19 recovery is leaving many small businesses behind. Across the nation’s 50 largest metro areas, about 20% of small businesses in operation pre-pandemic have remained closed since August. However, there were differences in small business trajectories across metro areas (Figure 5). In Northeastern and Midwestern metro areas where COVID-19 cases began to rise rapidly in October (e.g., Boston, Chicago, Indianapolis, Minneapolis, Providence, R.I.), the share of small businesses open dropped. In the West and South’s metro areas where cases had yet to spike (e.g., Houston, Memphis, Tenn., Portland, Ore., Raleigh, N.C., San Francisco), the share of small businesses open increased. In this area—as in many others—the October data may portray the calm before the storm. Looking at the early November data on small businesses, some analysts are projecting a possible loss of jobs nationwide. Heading into winter with record COVID-19 case counts and hospitalizations, city and state officials are reinstating a variety of lockdown restrictions on social gatherings and business activities in order to quell the virus’s spread. These new restrictions on consumers and businesses—and more so, a third wave of the pandemic—could undermine the momentum of the nation’s tepid economic recovery, making renewed federal financial support to struggling households and businesses even more critical.

The Young Lions CHICAGO | WOD CHICAGO '17
man, i don’t think i could be any more proud of a group of people! how this performance came together : its natural that when i come home to chicago i always want to do something for the city. but naturally when you’re never anywhere longer than two weeks at a time it can be challenging to build things in places without the proper resources. but seeing as i’ve been coming to chicago for the last 6 years several times a year since i moved at 18 i thought it was time to assemble the resources i have and build the foundation of a team. a program to help build the community back up here in chicago in a way that is pushing boundaries. Young Lions Chicago was selected based off the combination of who I’ve seen grow over time as well as who is a good fit for the hard hustle yet humble approach that i believe to be the spirit of a hungry young lion. I never thought i’d be able to create an entire solidified group of people but with the gracious help of monyett, pause, lil bit, & walter. we were able to not only create this group but also teach, stage, and clean this number in only THREE REHEARSALS. another big main point to note in this set is that i only have ONE piece of choreography and the rest of the choreo is contributed by the team itself. the concept here was to give staging/cleaning techniques that myself and The Young Lions have created over time and experience doing jobs and working together in LA over the last year. under this mindset we were able to accomplish everything you see here in such short amount of time. (LAST SPECIAL NOTE: I MADE THE JUKE MIX OUTRO FOR THE SET MYSELF! just some drums i programmed but it was pretty dope to have a brand new crew closing out a show in chicago with some juke drums i programmed over a cool kids beat haha).

Research point: Fashion Illustration
“Historically, imagery that promoted the fashions of the day, most notably from the early 20th century to the 1950s, was dominated by illustration. However, the discipline lost ground to photography and it was not until the 1990s that illustrators have returned to this domain.” (Alan Male 2007)
I believe there is truth in the above quote as you can see the changes between the first part of the 20th century in comparison to the start of the 21st. Much like reportage illustration early 20th century fashion illustration is focused on conveying information. Images are precise and clean conveying an aspirational aesthetic. Clothing looks expensive, glamorous and the artist captures the look, feel and weight of the fabric. ‘[…] you must feel the fabric in your mind otherwise you won’t convey it’s character in your drawing’ (Marshall,1948).
In her essay for Illustration History Sarah Goethe-Jones describes fashion illustration as “the unique ability to use pen or brush in such a way that it not only captures nuance through gesture but is also able to transform the graphic representation of a garment, accessory, or cosmetic into an object of desire. The job of the fashion artist is to ‘tell the story of the dress.’” (Goethe-Jones, 2019) I believe this statement applies to the industry both past and present however the stories that the dresses tell have changed.
In the below illustrations from 1913 - the 50′s. The woman are stylised in a manner that has remained consistent within the fashion industry in that they are very thin, tall with a pronounced narrow waist. The models feel quite static and actively posing rather than later illustrations which try to capture fabric in movement. These images are telling a story of being beautiful, glamourous. These women look as though they are heading to an event, she is a socialite, part of the elite. Photos weren’t widely published at the time so there was a necessity for illustration in order to sell clothes.
From left to right top to bottom, Vintage pattern sourced (Voguepatterns.mccall.com, 2020) René Gruau, Dior 1947. St Cyr, Va,1915.
Post 1950′s there was a decline in fashion illustrations produced as magazines editors found the public responded more to photography. This is not to say work was not being produced. In Masters of Fashion Illustration David Downton explains ‘In, response, fashion illustrators adopted a new graphic dynaisim as the challenge became to do what photography can’t’ (Downton 2012). This can be seen in many illustrations from the late part of the century. Use of line and colour notably become more experimental working hard to capture the movement of clothing. For me the work of Antonio Lopez is an example of this. Despite the general decline in the industry he was one of the few who were able to capture the imagination of the fashion publications with his bold stylised drawings.

MY CAT IS AN ALIEN contribute to the first book entirely focused on THURSTON MOORE:
“Thurston Moore - We Sing A New Language” by NICK SOULSBY Omnibus Press (UK/ USA) OUT MARCH 13, 2017
From author Nick Soulsby: For “We Sing A New Language: The Oral Discography Of Thurston Moore”, I wanted to use the experiences and perspectives of the people who have played on the numerous records he’s featured on outside of Sonic Youth, to paint a picture of his development and his interests in music across the years. It’s notable how much of his energies, very early on, were on gaining this wider experience while – since the mid-Nineties – there’s a veritable explosion of effort devoted to other scenes which then feeds back into Sonic Youth in the form of the SYR records, releases with Mats Gustafsson, the presence of Borbetomagus on the Murray Street album, their choices of support acts when touring. There’s even a specific character to Moore’s efforts during Sonic Youth’s peak of commercial success in the early-to-mid-Nineties with Moore evangelising and paying tribute to the underground bands who he felt was important – so much of that era is spend on covers and tributes. It’s that kind of pattern that speaking to the people involved was able to tease out.
The book includes a comprehensive Contributors section in which each of the 170 people involved summarises their personal creative urges and expressions – the hope being that it gives the reader a sense of who they’re speaking to and a starting point for further exploration. Frankly, if you enjoy the work of Thurston Moore then there are a lot of people in here worth finding!

Chemotherapy (Obvious Facts People Don’t Want to See)
Chemotherapy and the facts that support why this cancer treatment needs to be avoided.
Throughout history, there have been numerous occupations that have proved to be hazardous to those working in those industries. Coal miners breathing in dust which would lead to emphysema and long term lung issues or the munition workers during World War One whose skin turned yellow because of their close contact with the chemicals contained in TNT.
Further back, in the 1800s, there were the milliners who used mercury to strengthen sub-standard fur to make fashionable hats for the masses. Mercury poisoning lead to impaired speech, memory loss, trembling and personality changes, this became known as “Mad Hatter Syndrome” which in turn gave us the character “The Mad Hatter” from Alice in Wonderland. Mad as a Hatter.
Now let us have a look at a dangerous drug alert issued by the National Institute of Occupational Health and Safety(NIOSH) and the Centre for Disease Control and Prevention(CDCP), the title of the alert was Preventing Exposure to Antineoplastics and other Hazardous Drugs in Health Care Settings. The alert warned that working with chemotherapy drugs could be harmful to your health.
Evidence to back up these claims are numerous, one example is the story of Sue Crump, an experienced pharmacist, who had spent much of her career working with chemotherapy drugs. In 2011, Sue died from pancreatic cancer, but before her death Sue wanted it to be known that it was her hands-on exposure to toxic chemotherapy that had caused her own cancer. Drugs like cyclophosphamide, doxorubicin, fluorouracil, and methotrexate.
Despite multiple studies dating back to the 1970s linking certain cancers to medical personnel, the federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) does not regulate exposure to toxic drugs. As every oncologist is aware, chemotherapy drugs cause genetic changes in patients and yet traces of these same drugs have been detected on floors, worktops, computer keyboards, and door handles.
Most chemo drugs are genotoxic, interacting with genes (DNA) and causing mutations.
Genetic mutations are recognized as a high-risk factor for developing cancer. A long term study of oncology medical personnel working in Denmark from the 1940s to the 1980s found a significantly increased number of blood cancer cases among both doctors and nurses. Another Danish study from 2009 of just under 100,000 nurses showed an increased risk of brain, breast and thyroid cancers.
Over recent years, more and more leading cancer experts have spoken out against the use of chemotherapy in the treatment of cancer. Dr. Glenn Warner railed against the multi-million dollar cancer treatment industry “..that is killing people. Left and right, just for financial gain”.
The former head of the American Chemical Society, Dr. Alan C. Nixon stated that “….chemotherapy does much, much more harm than good”. French cancer specialist Dr. Charles Mathe said that if he ever contracted cancer he would stay away from standard cancer treatment in order to give himself a chance to survive.
When a person with one type of cancer is injected with chemotherapy, it will often lead to the development of another type of cancer. The Oncologist will then claim to have cured initial cancer, when, in fact, the second or third cancer is a direct result of the chemo used to treat first cancer. Mad isn’t it.
When you analyze the effects of chemotherapy it becomes obvious that it is highly toxic, the person’s hair falls out, their immune system is devastated, dizziness and headaches and vomiting are the norm. Maybe the body is telling us something?
Drugs routinely used to treat cancer, such as Tamoxifen for breast cancer, were declared to be “known carcinogen” by the World Health Organisation in 1996. How can a drug that causes cancer cure cancer? Impossible!
There is a quote from Mike Adams that sums it up. “Treating cancer with chemotherapy is like treating alcoholism with vodka.
It’s like treating heart disease with cheese, or diabetes with high-fructose corn syrup. Cancer cannot be cured by the very thing that causes it. Don’t let some cancer doctor talk you into chemotherapy using his or her fear tactics. They’re good at that.
So next time he insists to you take some chemotherapy, ask him to take some first. If your oncologist isn’t willing to take chemotherapy in front of you to prove it is safe, why on earth would you agree to have it injected in your body.

Mostra GAM Torino 24 marzo- 4 luglio 2004
Lionello Venturi, A Marc Chagall. Catalogo. Gli anni russi e il primo periodo parigino 1907-1922. Gli anni francesi e l'esilio negli USA 1923-1947. Il ritorno in Francia 1948-1985. Marc Chagall. L'itinerario di un artista. Alan Crump. Un artista indipendente. Marc Chagall. La vita e le opere 1887-1985. Bibliografia essenziale.

Atheists Put an End to Police Prayer Vigils in Louisiana
(The Christian Post) A police department in Louisiana will no longer host or promote citywide monthly prayer vigils following a complaint from one of the nation’s leading atheist groups. The Shreveport Police Department, which is led by Baptist pastor and Police Chief Alan Crump, has agreed to no longer organize prayer gatherings after it received a letter from the Wisconsin-based Freedom From Religion Foundation. The letter was sent in late August and objected to the fact that the police department “organizes and promotes prayer
vigils” on behalf of about 20 pastors who are involved in the department’s “Pastors on Patrol” chaplaincy program, according to KTBS. According to a screenshot of a department Facebook post promoting the event, the monthly prayer vigil was designed to “unite community, police and community leaders in prayer” for the city. FFRF’s letter not only called for an end to the prayer vigils but also for an end to the department’s chaplaincy program. READ MORE
