“Getting the clearance may be a problem yet, I can do it don’t worry.”

He took a deep breath. He was bad at wording certain things in certain situations. He just didn’t want to hurt anyone’s feelings yet he guessed it had to be done.

“A week is all I need. Thanks, Gajeel. Y’know....you’re not as bad as people say you are!”

He gives the other one of his signature friendly grins. It was really genuine too.

“Sabertooth eh?”

Gajeel would tuck his hands into his pockets as he looked over the other male. He could tell he had potential, and when the other continued to speak, a pierced brow would raise. Why would someone in a straight-and-narrow guild want to join a guild like Phantom Lord? Not that he was going to turn the other down, he could tell he would be a great asset, sure he’d need a bit of training, but there were plenty of places to do that inside the main Phantom Lord guildhall.

“I’ve had much worse shit said to me before.”

It wasn’t a lie, the Dragon Slayer was nothing if not honest. He hated lying, he always had. While under Jose’s rule he had done some pretty wretched things, but in the end the guild was coming into his hands since Jose was no longer in the picture and the members were all but demanding he take over. He couldn’t really say no, no matter how much he wanted to. He didn’t really FEEL that he fit Master, but they all disagreed with him.

“Gihi, alright. I’ll make ya a deal. Ya gotta get clearance to leave yer current guild and I’ll meet ya in Oak Town, then ya can come to Phantom Lord and we can get the paperwork done for ya to join.”

It wasn’t a very hard process, once the guild was in his hands he could approve or deny entry at his own volition. He was on his way to the Council building in Era to actually fill out the paperwork he needed to do to take over. He wasn’t really given much choice, really. Now though, he didn’t see it as a bad thing.

“I’ll meet ya there in a week. if ya get there early go to the Inn in the town and let em know yer waitin’ on me.”

“...I guess I’m in the wrong guild then. I mean Sabertooth is cool and all, but sometimes they can be a bit..too laid back and goofy. I mean I know I can be that way but there’s a time for everything.”

He sighed he screwed up big time. He owed the other an apology asap. He could do that easily but something told him he should stay close to the slayer for now. He wanted to get strong and what Gajeel said seems to indicate he knows what it is exactly.

“Look I’m sorry for accusing and yelling at you. It was wrong of me to do that when you were minding your own business. I know this is going to sound weird and all from me. Yet, I have to do this.”

He got a serious look on his face soon enough and took a deep breath.

“I dunno what direction to go to. Or who I should ally myself with, yet something tells me I should stick by you for a while. I mean what I’m asking is.”

He looks down a bit waiting for rejection.

“Please let me join Phantom Lord and teach me how to be strong.”

He felt like it was the best option for him right now.

“It’s just that..the man who adopted me passed on recently and he had that same mark on his back. He told me to join a guild before he died like he did. But, he never told me what guild he was in or anything. Since he was a strong wizard, I thought he was a member of Sabertooth but their mark is different than his and yours. Maybe you knew him. He was a Earth and Sand mage like I was.”

It was probably a one in a million chance he was a member of Phantom Lord. Yamato was a goof person and good people don’t join guilds like that right? He didn’t know anymore and all this was starting to hurt his brain a lot.

Gajeel didn’t really care for the particulars, really. It was more curiosity than anything else at this point. Why would someone react in such a way to seeing his guild mark? No one had before. Sure, under Jose’s reign, Phantom was a terrible place and some members sought to leave. Only those like Gajeel stayed, but it was more because they had nowhere to go if they left. The ones who left weren’t stripped of their member status unless they applied to exit the guild and then their marks were removed, but so few did that.

“Sounds kind of familiar, but I don’t know many people in the guild itself. Jose ain’t around anymore and they’re lookin’ for a new Master. Most of em want me to step in since they respect me.”

He didn’t care as long as the new Master wasn’t someone like Jose who let power go to his head. Sure, there were members of the now disbanded Fairy Tail among their ranks, but not many had actually officially joined yet. A few had because they knew they couldn’t survive without income, so they eventually relented and got their marks shortly before Jose vanished. No one knew what happened, all they knew was their Master was gone and didn’t seem like he was going to come back, and he wouldn’t. It was because he was dead. He’d touched one too many people or done something else untoward to the few that Gajeel viewed as friends or comrades. So the Slayer made him disappear.

“I think I might know who yer talkin’ about. I ain’t gonna pry in regard to what happened to him.”

Gajeel knew strength was something a lot of people sought, but very few people understood what true strength was. It wasn’t all brute strength and violence.

“Just so ya know, true strength ain’t just about fightin’ the strong. Ya gotta know when to pull back and when to push forward. Just fightin’ people ain’t gonna get ya the strength yer seekin’. There’s more to strength than that. Ya gotta have yer head on straight to see it.”

Gajeel wasn’t all that surprised to hear that the word had spread.of Phantom’s defeat of Fairy Tail. A lot of people hadn’t expected that outcome, but Phantom was no slouch when it came to power. They had the Element Four and above them was Gajeel himself. In terms of strength there were very few in the guild itself that could hold a candle to him. in fact, there were very few who could, but the Slayer didn’t really care for particulars.

“Ya mean my guild mark? I’m from Phantom Lord, since ya knew about how I thrashed Fairy Tail then ya shoulda known about my guild’s guild mark.”

Lofting a pierced brow at the other male who seemed taken aback by spotting his guild mark made the Slayer wonder even more. He wasn’t sure who the guy was, but he knew that no one would react that way unless they’d SEEN the guild mark on someone else before. Gajeel still hadn’t figured out what was so familiar about the guy’s father, but it would likely come to him in time. Everything did, usually. Of course, no one outside Phantom Lord knew that Jose was gone and with him went his creepy perverse actions that led many people to leave the guild over the years.

Gajeel heard a voice calling out, the tall man would turn his attention to whoever it was calling out to him. How he knew they were prior to the other male making his way toward him was due to the tone of voice he had. As he listened to the other’s words he couldn’t help but snort, did this guy not realize just what he was capable of? Never mind the fact that he had taken such a tone with him despite his reputation. A grin would envelope the Iron Slayer’s visage as he waited to respond.

“Is that so? I’m sure ya know by now that I ain’t gonna take any threats lightly, so ya better watch yer words.”

It was nothing more than a light warning, Gajeel wasn’t there to start any trouble, in fact he was there due to a job he was on being in the area. He had no intention of attacking random people - be them mages or not. When the other used his given name, a growl would erupt from within and he’d narrow his crimson eyes at the other.

“Does it fuckin’ look like I’m here to attack ya or yer town? Or do ya stop every person who passes through just cause yer on edge? What’s got ya so fuckin’ worried?”

The name the other mentioned sounded familair to the Dragon Slayer, though at that moment he couldn’t figure out why. Perhaps he’d read something about the other’s male’s family before. He couldn’t be sure, nor was it really on his list of priorities to find out. Shifting in place, still making no move to activate any number of his abilities the Dragon Slayer merely waited for a response to his question.

“I heard about your guild, you defeated Fairy Tail. I have to admit it was a shock to hear that from Master Sting. Yet, you beat his idol. You’re probably even stronger than himself. Probably stronger than me too I dunno. But I live to fight the strong! I want to be number one after all! Meaning fighting you will teach me a thing or two. Yet, you’re in a guild that’s done some bad stuff. So I dunno.”

He didn’t know he just felt like he needed to fight him. Something inside of him screamed for him to fight, Yet when he saw the mark on his arm at a glance. He froze and paled a bit. 

“W-Why do you have that guild mark on your arm?” 

That mark was the same one his adoptive Father had. It was the exact design and everything. Yet, his was on his back. The look on Jasper’s face was just a look of shock and confusion. It couldn’t be true. His dad’s guild was the same one as Gajeel’s.

He was angry and not up for this right now.. What was a member of Phantom Lord doing around his neighborhood. Like is he starting trouble. Not only that, the way the guy looks fits the description of Gajeel Redfox otherwise known as Black Steel Gajeel. This was bad. Why here and now. He couldn’t just let him go by and do whatever he wants.

“Oi! You! don’t move!”

He walks towards him and crossed his arm. He made his body as hard as stone just in case he needed to fight. He was going to find out exactly what bushiness he had here.

“Before I ask my questions. Let me introduce myself. I am Jasper Adams. Adoptive son of Yamato Kisaragi! One of the greatest Earth and Sand magic users to ever live! The next strongest wizard to ever walk this earth! Now why are you here Gajeel Redfox?”
