So, my first time playing the “From Dusk Till Casa Bonita” DLC I started off thinking “aww, Kenny’s trying to protect his little sister, how sweet.” Then as I kept playing my thoughts switched to “well, they’re not being bad friends to her like I thought they were going to be. Kenny just doesn’t want her to be friends with them because he thinks vampires are lame. That’s not cool Kenny. Let your sister like what she likes even if you don’t like it. Don’t try to police what she likes and who she’s friends with.” And that made me dislike Kenny a bit in this dlc, which I obviously don’t want to do. But then I thought about it some more and came to a realization. The vampire kids are constantly taunting you during combat, calling you “mortal” even though we know that Kenny actually isn’t. He even lampshades this by saying “who’s mortal now?” if you KO one of them. Then I remembered how Kenny snapped at Kyle when he said it would be pretty cool not to be able to die, saying that it’s not cool, it fucking hurts. That’s when it hit me. It’s not that he doesn’t want Karen to think that vampires are cool, it’s more that he doesn’t want her to think that immortality is cool. Her pretending to be an immortal creature would likely hit his trauma button pretty hard. So he’s still kinda being a jerk here, but understandably so.
