One of the first voices millions of commuting New Yorkers hear each morning is the measured tone of former traffic reporter Bernie Wagenblast reminding them to stand away from the platform edge. Wagenblast, AKA “the voice of New York”, reminds AirTrain passengers at JFK or Newark that the doors are closing, and hosts a podcast about infrastructure, including episodes on Ohio’s bridges and wildlife crossings in Oregon. But that […] voice, honed by years of practice to impart clarity and authority but not alarm, is changing. Earlier this year, Wagenblast, 66, went on the radio to present herself publicly as a transgender woman, and has this month been participating in US Pride celebrations with gusto, including the march at Asbury Park on the Jersey shore. Wagenblast is still Bernie, but that’s now derived from Bernadette. […] She has had support from the people she knows, even casually. The reception from her friends from Catholic university has been similarly supportive, and she’s working with her high school classmates for their 50th reunion without issue. “It’s wonderful,” she says. “Times have changed.” Hateful comments have only come from people who do not know her, she says. Her relationships with female associates, she says, have also benefited from her public presentation. “They’re comfortable and accept me and it’s been one of the great pleasures.” […] One of the side-effects of a public transition is, she hopes, to give encouragement to those who are still not out. Each time somebody in the subway station hears her voice, she says, they will know that LGBTQ people are part of everyday life. “We’re not just on TV or people you read about that are somewhere else but an intricate part of day-to-day living. A fun memory from a few years ago.

Parked up at Dennis Thompson International's hangar a few years back was a former RAAF NZAI CT/4A Airtrainer.

msn 042 was built at Hamilton as part of an order of 50 and given the temporary c/r ZK-EAE in 1975, as well as its RAAF s/n A19-042. It made its first flight on 04/07/1975.

It was flown to Bankstown, NSW, a month later, and had its NZ c/r cancelled on 22/09/75.

In 1993, it became VH-JDN, having been struck off charge before being exported back to its country of birth in 1999.

It was re-registered as ZK-LJH* and moved to Wānaka in 2008. In 2017 it was listed for sale locally, before moving up to Ardmore to be sold by DTI.

It was exported c. 2019. Back to Australia I think.

*one of two warbirds to wear the c/r ZK-LJH, the other being a Yak-52 currently registered as ZK-KGB.

is part of the job requirements to work at the airport being a massive cunt this lady at the airtrain scanner was saying something I didn't hear/even realize she was talking to me so I said what & she repeats "what" in this bitchy little voice like hello???
