what do you draw from when you're writing your songs? like virgin suicide, i would love to know the origins of that
director's cut genius annotations time! for virgin suicide specifically, i drew in part from lived experience (mine and my loved ones' alike), but i also took a lot of inspiration from the well of cultural cornerstones i have collected: in this case, namely, i was thinking of the ancient greek ideal of the maiden's suicide through hanging (think erigone and the aiora, the danaids, antigone), as well as the catholic iconography of sacred virginity and its defilement, and i wanted to do something juxtaposing the traumatic unwilling loss of that virginity-maidenhood with the desire to still consider your suicide as upholding that paradigm of purity, the desire to be unsexed-unraped.
i also, predictably, drew from the imagery of paternal incestuous abuse, but i wanted to show it in an oedipal light: the mother was there too, an accomplice and a culprit as much as the father, but the narrator can only bring herself to blame her father and hold him accountable without being able to do the same for her mother, whom she ends up apologizing to. the father "touched" her, the mother "loved" her: there's an intense dissonance in the way the narrator presents her abuse, and it's very much intentional. the sister is a sort of light at the end of the tunnel: no matter how much you've suffered, how marred and worthless you think your body is, someone will love you and take care of you, there have been happy times before and there will be again.

Aiόra is the latest wine series of Moschopolis Winery. This greek word’s meaning derives from the name of the ancient Greek celebration for god Dionysus but is also a word equal for relaxation through levitation,as it is literally a synonymous word with swing. Instead of illustrating a narrative of this word, it has been chosen a perspective which doubts what is to be physically ascended, an oxymoron which brings a set of levitating rocks, the bigger standing and supported over the smaller, a floating synthesis, an overall metaphor in redefining what is known in what is familiar. — Aiόra / white / asyrtiko, xinomavro & sauvignon blanc Aiόra / red / mavrotragano, xinomavro & syrah — The Birthdays Design © 2018

So cool to have stumbled on this image coinciding with Erigone myth and the Aiora (the Swing) ancient festival, where virgins swung from the trees of Athens.

How about a crossover between Kimetsu No Yaiba and Saint Seiya in which the S/O of the gold knights is from the KNY universe and is isekaiated to SS and is a hashira/Pillar and time after the relationship begins they meet some co-worker, for example Aphrodite and her S/O meet Shinobu, Aioria and her S/O meet Rengoku, a very crazy idea? Indeed, can it work? With your talent I'm sure that yes ヽ(✿゚▽゚)ノ( •̀ .̫ •́ )✧
Sorry this took so long to get out! I'm sorry if this is short as well. This one just picked at my brain and I couldn't think of a good way for it to go. this one sucked so bad. I hate the ending. Hope you still enjoy!
Aioria x Female Demon slayer Reader
Genre: Fluff
Reader’s sibling: Iguro
Reader’s best friend: Rengoku
Y/n was born during the time of demons. Her older brother is Iguro and she gets transported to the time of the saints and Athena and becomes a saint herself.
Aiora could have sworn he was fighting Hades. He remembered the saints and Athena attacking him head on before he could do anything but now, he was just sitting in the middle of the forest dumbstruck and looking around. His girlfriend, Y/n was trying to figure out where they were before she stood up straight. Y/n looked around for a minute before realizing that she was home again. She grabbed Aioria’s arm and pulled him in the direction of where her home was. He raised an eyebrow but followed her anyway.
Once they make it to what appears to be a big house, Y/n drops to her knees and bows. Aioria just stood awkwardly as he watched her. “I have returned, master.” She said calmly. A few moments of silence rang out before the sound of what sounded to be a sob was heard. “I am glad to see that you are unharmed, my child.” A young man walked out with two girls at his side. Aioira noticed that the man was blind and needed help getting around even though he was young.
Y/n began telling him all about what had happened to her and why it had happened. She introduced her boyfriend to the master and later, to the hashira when they had arrived a few hours after Y/n had returned home. “Master, where is my brother?” Y/n asked as she searched the hashira. Mitsuri stood up and pulled Y/n into a bone crushing hug. “After you disappeared, he thought that you had died and ever since then, he hasn’t come to meetings and hasn’t shown his face for years. I know that you can get him to come back if you go over there. His snake will instantly recognise you.” Mitsuri said, smiling sadly at her. Y/n nodded her head and ran back to her brother's house. “I’m home brother.” She whispered.
{Time-Skip}
When she reached her brother's home, she could hear him softly crying. It hurt her heart to know that she had caused him this much pain. She opened the door quietly and saw Kaburamaru. He looked up and as fast as lightning slithered over to Y/n. She dropped to her knees and held her hand out towards the white snake and picked him up. Kaburamaru curled around her hand and pressed his face against her palm. She smiled and ran her fingers over his white scales.
“Come on, I need to see my brother.” You whispered and the snake seemed to understand what you were saying and turned his head towards the area he had just slithered from. You walked into the room and softly knocked on the door. “Hey Iguro, I’m home.” You called out. You watched your brother's head turn at the speed of light. You thought he gave himself whiplash. He stood up and walked over to you before pulling you into a hug. Please don’t ever do that again. That scared me so badly. I thought you were dead.” He said. You smiled and hugged him back just as tightly.
You both walked back to the meeting for the hashira and when you entered the Headquarters, you saw Aioria and Rengoku, you childhood friend, talking and practicing together. Aioria was showing off his moves and was extremely impressed with Rengoku’s abilities. You smiled before Kaburamaru slithered to your arm and wrapped around your hand. You smiled at the white snake before walking over to your boyfriend and best friend. “I see you two have met and enjoy each other's company. I’m glad.” You said smiling happily.
Rengoku grinned. He told you everything that he had learned from Aioria and vice versa. You sat there and smiled happily as the two got along. You watched everyone else talking amongst themselves. It also looked like it was gonna be a long day of explaining what had exactly happened to you. You chuckled to yourself before you joined the others talking. You sat down next to Aioria as he continued to talk with the others. Iguro was interested, seeing as his little sister had disappeared for a while before reappearing.
Y/n smiled as she watched everyone. She really had missed everyone and couldn’t believe that she was back home again. She held Iguro’s snake and ran her finger on the snake's head and smiled when his little tongue appeared before disappearing. “I really missed this Kaburamaru, I don’t want to ever miss this again.” You said smiling as everyone became animated when Aioria began telling them about what he had to do. He showed them his power at full power and was just laughing when they stood there stunned.

Festivals we know (almost) nothing about - Part 1
Once in a while, it's good to remember that none of our calendars are complete. This is much more obvious with non-Attic/Athenian calendars, and anyone who decides to jump into attempting to reconstruct the cultic calendar of Delphi, Delos, Sparta, Argos etc. will know exactly what I mean, as they are painfully fragmentary (not to mention the ones that are completely lost).
Because of the contrast between the fairly well-preserved Athenian calendar and the others, we often forget that Athenian calendar we know about is only "well-preserved" but by no means complete.
Back in January, I decided to make an user-friendly calendar and I had to make several choices about how to keep it simple. One of those choices was to get rid of obscure festivals, especially when their date or content is unknown or highly speculative.
The downside of my project is that it further solidifies this illusion of completeness. This is why I'm making this post: here's the list of Athenian festivals we know by name that haven't made it into my calendar for the reasons mentioned above. Emphasis on "know by name", because there's probably a few we completely lost as well. This list likely isn't going to be exhaustive either (took out deme-specific festivals, hero worship, battle commemoration festivals etc. + I probably forgot stuff).
Note 1: This will be cut in parts of 10 festivals because there's really a lot.
Note 2: The aim isn't to tell people to add all of those holy days and festivals to their calendar, that would be way too much for a single person. Rather, this list is meant as inspiration for worshippers, especially those who have relationships with less widely worshipped deities.
The Adonia
Date unknown but probably happened in the summer. We actually have decent information on this one, aside from the date issue. It was primarily a festival for women. A few days before the festival, they would go plant young sprouts of lettuce and other garden plants and cereals on the rooftops. The sprouts, being left out in the sun, would quickly die, which was meant to represent the tragic short-life of Adonis. On the day of the festival, the women would come back on the roof to cry and mourn the death of Adonis.
For a complete study and contextualization of this festival, see "The Athenian Adonia in Context: The Adonis Festival as Cultural Practice" by Laurialan Reitzammer.
The Aiora
A swinging festival of unknown date, though there is debate about it being part of the Anthesteria. The Aiora was probably connected to the death of Erigone.
The Amarysia
Pausanias is our only source of a cult to Artemis Amarysia in Athens (Description of Greece 1. 31. 5):
"Amarynthus is a town in Euboea, the inhabitants of which worship Amarysia, while the festival of Amarysia which the Athenians celebrate is no less splendid than the Euboean. The name of the goddess, I think, came to Athmonia in this fashion and the Colaenis in Myrrhinus is called after Colaenus."
We have no further information for this cult in Athens specifically.
The Anthesphoria
This one is tricky to fit in the list, because we have very little proof this was ever celebrated in Athens, and most of our sources on the festival trace back to Sicily, even though there are indications it was held in other parts of the Greek world. It was a festival of the flowers focusing around Persephone and Demeter. It was probably held in early spring, if we take into consideration the common stem between Anthesphoria and Anthesterion (anthes = flower), the Attic month of February-March, which alludes to the abundance of flowers during this time of the year.
For a more complete post on this festival, see @verdantlyviolet's breakdown. For a study, see "Hera’s Lettuce Women and the Peculiar Uses of Flowers, Fruit and Vegetables in Ancient Greek Festivals for Women" by Lucinda Guzman (Master's thesis)
The Arrhephoria
Festival held in honour of Athena and Pandrosus, date unknown but it seems to have been linked to the Acropolis.
The Asklepieia
Probably a set of two festivals to Asklepios, one occuring in winter (between the Lenaia and the City Dionysia, so roughly between January and March/April) and another roughly six months later, between the Eleusinia and the Thesea. At this point, it is believed that the latter actually is known under the name of Epidauria, which was celebrated on Boedromion 17 or 18 (around September). Whereas the first festival would fit with an observance to Asklepios known to happen on Elaphebolion 8. It was probably at those two festivals that doctors would make their sacrifices to the god.
The Diisoteria
Two dates are known for this festival to Zeus Soter and Athena Soteria, as there are indications this festival has been changed over the centuries. The original date was Skirophorion 30, the last day of this month (somewhere between June and July, most likely - which also happens to be New Year's eve for the Attic calendar). According to R. Parker, the date was moved in the 4th century BC to be earlier in the month, before Skirophorion 11. A decree from the 2nd century BC indicates Asclepius and Hygieia were also added to the list of recipients.
The Elaphebolia
Festival to Artemis, probably in the month of the same name (Elaphebolion - March/April). We can assume it was held on the 6th day, but we have no certainty. The preparation of ‘deer’ cakes (probably in private houses?) attested by Athenaeus is all that we can be sure of.
The Galaxia
Festival in honor of Cybele, the Mother of the Gods. No date known. For the occasion was offered a golden bowl with ‘galaxias’, a mixture of barley flour and milk.
The Genesia
Festival celebrating the dead, most likely dead parents. It was held on Boedromion 5 (late August - early September). Details are blurry, it's possible this was mostly a private, familial celebration. If there was a public rite distinct from private commemorations, we do not know where it was held.
