Today's level of brainrot is listening to that 2007 or whenever Gummy Bear song over and over in different languages.
Cantonese and Klingon are standouts for me rn.
#blabbing Haddock#non-dragons#music#no I'm not going crazy#I was crazy to begin with because I unironically like the song because I have no taste#the Afrikaans version has its own Vibe (TM) too#Klingon because it entails that Klingon requires having 'gummy bear' in its language#(or did you substitute?)#(it's fascinatingly one of the only that doesn't have a cognate to the English)#and the Cantonese singer just knew how to fuckin' rock it#knew the assignment#and pounded hard

Arash featuring Rebecca Zadig - Temptation 2005
"Temptation" is a 2005 major hit single by Iranian-Swedish singer Arash featuring Rebecca Zadig and taken from Arash's self-titled debut album. The music for "Temptation" is from "Baila Maria", a Spanish tune recorded by Ishtar Alabina featuring Los Niños de Sara in 1996. "Temptation" in its own right has been subject of many covers and in a number of languages.
"Temptation" was first recorded by Swedish singer Rebecca Zadig with additional lyrics and rendition vocals featuring Arash, who started his career performing under his mononym Alex. The first version had English as main vocals by Zadig featuring Arash that interpreted some additional Persian language lyrics. "Temptation" was re-released as a song mainly in the Persian language, this time crediting Arash as the main vocalist, and Rebecca Zadig was reduced to a featuring role. This release became the definitive version and was Arash's third successful consecutive single after "Boro Boro" and "Tike Tike Kardi" (poll #137). The song credited to Arash made it to number 2 on the Swedish Singles Chart, and also charted in Germany, Switzerland and Finland.
In 2005, a Russian language version of the song was made by Arash with the Russian girl group Blestyaschie. The song titled "Vostochniye skazki" (Eastern fairytales) was credited to Blestyaschie featuring Arash. In 2006, the South African cover boyband Hi-5 covered the song in Afrikaans under the title "Versoeking". It was a main single and the title track of their album. In 2015, the Dutch group Wing-Men covered the song in Dutch under the title "Verleid Mij", and released it as their debut single.
"Temptation" received a total of 75,4% yes votes! Previous Arash polls: #137 "Tike Tike Kardi".

south africa but i've never been there also i'm drinking
HELLO MAGGOTS this is the good omens mascot here hello hello. my psychiatrist just spent today telling me how I won't be able to be out in college when it starts in May and I'll be misgendered etc etc it's all a good time. So my solution:
My darling cousin @imchronicallyonlinesowhat (the one who thought Sir Terry Pratchett looked like Sudha Murthy, was a kindly old woman and was married to Neil Gaiman because their book cover fonts were similar, OG maggots know the PAIN) who lives in South Africa asked me to make a South Africa post. FYI, she's moving to Australia for college, so you can be assured I shared my Australia posts with her she is SO prepared she won't say marmite instead of vegemite and she knows the Wibbles are inherently sexual. SOUTH AFRICA (I've only had a teeny weeny bit of cheap ass wine so far):
There a lot of white people there it's ineffable. There are enough of them there that my cousin regularly talks about not ever marrying someone who doesn't have some masala.
Afrikaans is a gorgeous language. I thought my cousin was showing me her Afrikaans notes once. She wasn't. It was her English notes, she just has the most illegible yet neat handwriting in the world.
They don't say yo but they say YOH and it sounds very much like a bass drum.
People at my cousin's school pump their hands in the air while saying jesus-jesus.
There's a trio of white boys that rule the school kind of like a genderswapped mean girls. They all look the same haircut-wise, they're Catholic and they're called the Triumvirate.
I'm realising here that my knowledge of South Africa is limited to cuzzy's school. But the wine is shit and I promised my blood-relative so I am continuing.
The books are fucking expensive and so everyone has to pirate shit. This sounds like the US.
Everyone is TALL. Like VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY TALL. The standard of height is insanely different from India. TALL.
If you don't have a last name you're going to get into legal trouble.
The no hat no play rule applies here as well as Australia apparently.
The wine cost like 2.5 dollars in USD if my conversion rates are correct, it smells like battery acid and tastes of rotted grapes. Nothing to do with South Africa, it's just that I cannot remember a single other thing about South Africa other than it's a country in Africa that's presumably in the South.
My braincells are already frying. For my cousin's sake, I'm going to compile all my Australia posts here so that she knows what to expect! Australian maggots your continent is about to be graced with the Good Omens Mascot bloodline. Notably the one with the Sudha Murthy fuck up so that's doubly fun. @howmanyholesinswisscheese, @im-a-sentient-magic-carpet, @madfangirlontheloose @obsessed-sketches @drconstellation and any other Aussie maggots be prepared and welcome her.

Oh I hate cheap wine. @imchronicallyonlinesowhat I hope you appreciate this, blood of mine. I'm such a great cousin.

hello mr. not a guinea, im wondering if you have words or phrases in ladino to use casually like how ppl use yiddish words. im asking bc im monolingual unfortunately.
we should use ladino casually the same way people use yiddish casually. ladino is a beautiful language and it should be used more often! the more people who even just know two words, the less likely this wonderful language and important piece of history is to fully die out. the more jewish languages that are used regularly the better!
#also from what i hear ladino is to spanish what afrikaans is to dutch.#similar languages#ppl might understand each other through the languages#but phrases might be different and words and stuff. iirc dutch has a lot of english loan words and afrikaans french? or vice versa i forget#anyway#jewish languages fascinate me cause its like dialect and hybrid languages and songs and its just very beautiful.#very alive and almost magical? like to have words throughout time and nation-states and worlds in common with our ancestors.#it's a kind of magic. to me.

Someone: I really enjoy singing
Me, desperate to share the information that the almost entirety Afrikaans South African rugby team in a move of solidarity in the 1995 world cup tried to learn the new black national anthem and one of the more apolitical members who had been raised to see the song and the end of apartheid as something dangerous and violent loved singing the song so much that his political hesitancy towards Mandela's presidency was swept away just with a song: haha yeah you know. You know who else did.

If you’re still doing song requests I’d love if you can do bad dog by Rosie ugly it’s so loser Ellie core
Bad dog - (ellie williams x reader)
Hi anon! firstly yes this song is so loser ellie and secondly i've never heard about Rosie before and their music slaps... i hope you enjoy:)
This story is based off the song Bad dog by Rosie! if you can please listen to the song as you're reading:)
Pairing: ellie x fem!reader
requests are open again! send me your silly thoughts
warnings: angst.
Summary: in which you treated her like a bad dog
authors note: so i left again and im so sorry, anyways my person life has been kak (that's a word in afrikaans lmao, it describes my emotion the best) but I've arrived and here to spam.
masterlist
Sometimes I feel like your lover
Savor salt while I'm there
But it feels like I'm drowning in the thick heavy air
And I'm only your souvenir
You put me outside like a bad dog
And you know you're missing out
On my love
On my love
I just want another taste of you
Right there under my tongue
It gets me feeling excited
Why am I tryna hide it?
you made her feel like a fucking dog.
A dog that has disappointed it's owner and that gets sent outside to wallow in self pity.
Sometimes you made her feel loved, you made her feel like she's the only girl alive. You made it seem like you would fucking die for her but today you made her feel like a dog.
Ellie doesn't know why she feels so hurt, you did this so often. She should be used to this.
The air surrounding you, Ellie and Dina was tense.
It was suffocating.
Ellie and Dina has been friends for years, but as soon as you came into the picture suddenly all the friends Ellie had drifted towards you.
Everyone loved you.
Who wouldn't? You were perfect. There was something about you that drew people, and Ellie loved that about you.
Ellie became a shell of herself. The once loud and confident Ellie Williams became a fucking loser who follows you like a shadow.
Your laugh filled the air, as Dina told a cringe dad joke, Ellie quietly sat watching the two of you.
Your words from earlier that day made her feel sick.
"Just because we fuck, doesn't mean we're something. We're really not anything but fuck buddies. Stop trying, you're pissing me off"
stop trying.
stop trying.
stop fucking trying.
Your presence made her so excited. Just smelling your perfume had her giggling.
How could she stop trying if you were the very reason for her existence?
She couldn't focus on the what Dina had to say, your laugh was mocking her.
Your harsh words were still replaying in her mind. They were suffocating her.
stop trying.
She meant nothing to you.
She should stop trying to win your love. You literally told her to stop.
Even though you made her feel like a fucking dog, the love she felt for kept her going and Ellie wasn't willing to give up.
Remember that song that you wrote me
It wakes me up in the morning
And it feels like I'm drowning in the memories I've been avoiding
And I cannot stop destroying
You put me outside like a bad dog
And you know you're missing out
On my love
On my love
I just want another taste of you
Right there under my tongue
It gets me feeling excited
Why am I tryna hide it?
Jesse told Ellie that you didn't deserve her love. He said that you were missing out on the best relationship of your life.
Jesse was right. Ellie knew she couldn't keep following you around, she knew she should stop hoping you'd fall to your kness and tell her how much you love her.
No, she had to face reality.
He was right.
All Ellie had to do was to go to your apartment and she had to tell you to fuck off. But when she tried she suddenly lost her ability to speak.
As soon as you smiled at her and asked "what's wrong baby?"
She couldn't.
She couldn't break her heart like that.
How can someone say something so hurtful and pretend like it didn't happen? You told her she meant nothing but yet you're calling her baby?
You were a fucked up person.
She wanted to hate you, but she couldn't.
Dogs are loyal to their owners. She wasn't going to leave. She was pathetic. A loser.
A loser who believes a girl who didn't see her as more than a fuck buddy would love her.
Ellie hopes you'll fall for her.
She hopes you listen to love songs and that you'd think of her.
Maybe the memories the two of you have created would consume you. Maybe you'd finally fall for her.
She tries to forget those memories, but she can't. The thought of you kills her.
You showed her love. You fucking cared for her when she was sick.
Surely it all wasn't platonic.
Maybe deep down you love her. Maybe you making her feel like shit was all apart of your plan to suppress your feelings for her.
Everything is a possibility at this point.
I'm all fucked up 'cause
I'm missing pieces
I'm all fucked up 'cause
I'm missing pieces
Ego dying
Loner island
I untied when
We went silent
Showed my colors
Stained the carpet
Not another
Fucking artist
Ellie is a puzzle.
She's incomplete without specific pieces.
Without her guitar, she felt empty. Without Joel she was lonely. Without you she felt like she had no purpose.
No matter how complicated Ellie was, no matter how fucked she was in the head you'd always show her love. Her dark thoughts went quiet, and her once dull life was filled with color because of you.
Ellie started drawing again after she quit years ago because you convinced her to try again.
You were the reason for her very being at this point. That's why she held on for so long. That's why she couldn't let go even though you made her feel like shit.
Ellie thought that she was going to stay in this toxic cycle for the rest of her life, and yes she would've if that meant a life with you.
But one day she woke up and everything around her was dull. There was no more color. No more excitement. When she was around you she felt tired. Drained.
You showed her the world but you destroyed it too.
She hated everything.
As much as she loved you she's had enough.
She has to take Jesse's advice and do what's best for her.
Here Ellie sat in front of the love of her life, telling you that this wasn't going to work.
"Ellie please" she heard your voice plead.
"I love you" Ellie muttered
"prove it" you said, frustration building up in you.
"Stay"
"I can't"
You were almost in tears. You were losing someone who helped you. You didn't love Ellie but she was of convince, she was there when you needed a quick fuck.
If she was just a quick fuck, then why does this hurt so much?
"Ellie if you love me you would stay"
"I love you i truly do, but i love myself too much to let you treat me like a bad dog"

In 1976 the township of Soweto situated in the city of Johannesburg saw a massive uprising whereby thousands of South African students took to the streets to protest against a language rule introduced by the white-minority rule. During the devastating uprising hundreds were killed in the police response but the events would profoundly change the country's social and political landscape.
The the very touching picture of a lifeless 13 year old boy named Hector Pieterson, who had just been shot by the police during the protests was a massive game changer for how the people felt towards apartheid world wide.
The 1976 uprising came after the white dominated South African government decided that black schools could only teach in a language called Afrikaans and English in a 50-50 mix of the languages of instruction within schools. This news had not gone down well with black people as Afrikaans was the language used by the government and many white people within South Africa, for this reason Afrikaans was seen as the language of the oppressor by many black South Africans. What made the new law of even worse was the fact that, while black schools had to provide instruction in both Afrikaans and English as languages, white South African students learned other subjects in their home language.
On June 16th at 7AM thousands of schoolchildren started to protest against the new law, singing songs and waving signs. At first police used gas to try and calm things down, but then started firing guns. The children protesting threw stones back at the police and by then protest had turned into a riot which lasted three days as adults joined in to show their frustration against the language rule change as well as the apartheid movement. By the end of a violent few days of protests, the South African government claimed that 95 people, some of them children, had been killed but in actual fact more than 700 people died during the uprising.
The bloody uprising and the way it was dealt with had brought the massive racial problems in South Africa to the world's attention. Some countries introduced sanctions against South Africa.
•••

I should probably introduce myself.
Hi🪷 I'm Poly MC, otherwise known as Fairwish and Chanzé, and I'm in polyamorous relationships with all 7 of the demon brothers in Obey Me!. This is my new Role Play account where I will be able to live out that dream🌼 Yay🎉
I would like to say hello to my role-play husbands @ask-belphegor, @stn-tmblr, @lucifer-morningst4r , @lord-of-burgers, @the-great-mammon-01, @asm0b4by, @l3v1uhthan (sorry for spamming and if I didn't add all of your different accounts). Hi🪻 I look forward to role-playing as your partner☺️ And hello to my sister-in-law, @8th-sisterlilith 🌻 I hope we can become good friends ☺️
Oh and my father-in-law, @celestial-realm-leader. Hi 🙂
And I would like to say hello to my role-play children, if you would do me the honour of having me as a parental figure (sorry, I couldn't quite figure out the colours thing and sorry for spamming you too) @cynthiathebettertwin, @aspenthetwin , @pridesson , @luv4j3llyfish , @thestarandtheghost , @shu1chi , @joy-yeah, @tomiokagiyuufirststan and @jewelofhell. I look forward to role-playing as your Umi🌺 "Umi" is short for "umzali", which means "parent" in Zulu, which is one of my 2 cultures. My bio dad is Zulu and my other culture is Afrikaans.
IMPORTANT: This is not to be confused with the meaning of "umi" from any other languages (aside from the Japanese "umi", which means "sea". "Sea" is one of my pronouns. More on that in the next paragraph). I decided to use "umi" as a term for my children to refer to me, because it's derived from a gender neutral term for a parental figure (umzali = parent), in my culture. I also decided on this term, because it would be so much easier for a child to learn how to say when learning how to speak. So, it also makes sense for my children's developmental needs.
Speaking of which, I'm non-binary 💜🤍💛🖤 and my pronouns are sea/star. So in a sentence, it would look like: Sea is very happy to be here. Sea hopes you enjoy star poetry. Basically, you replace "she" with "sea" and "her" with "star". So, me deciding to use "umi", along with my pronouns, works on multiple levels. Especially considering that I've always had a deep connection with the ocean, that I could never quite explain. But I think it's because my Zulu heritage originates from KwaZulu-Natal, a coastal province in South Africa.
Also whenever people refer to me, using these pronouns, it makes me feel like a fairy, sitting on a leaf and watching the ocean under a night sky😌 Like, I feel like a better version of myself. Like the me that I've always wanted to be🌌 That's right, bitch we're getting existential now! And I'm completely sober. It makes me feel like someone I can actually look up to, which I think is just absolutely insane🤯 I mean, I NEVER thought that I could feel that way. I've never seen myself as someone worthy of being looked up to, praised or admired by anyone, much less myself. But here I am! Making my inner child proud, just by using those pronouns, so ja☺️
Also, as I've mentioned, I'm Afrikaans and I LOVE Afrikaans music, so look forward to me posting English translations/interpretations for Afrikaans songs.
I also dabble in poetry, so look forward to that too. Though, some of my best poems I've written are in my old phone, which I spilled hot chocolate on. And now the motherboard is fucked😭
Here are the rules:
1. Asks are open.
2. No NSFW asks. I'm happily married, thank you. (Weed is fine, though)
3. Romantic asks are reserved for the brothers ONLY.
4. Please be respectful. No hate/bigotry will be tolerated here.
5. While I am NOT a mental health professional, despite what some of you may think, I am willing to listen to any struggles that you may have. So I can't give you any advice (because I don't know the full context of your situation and, once again I'm not a specialist) but if you need a friend who will listen, I'm here for you. However if you're looking for advice, then I suggest you go to a licensed professional.
And uh...what else?... Let's just have fun🤷🏽🎉
Oh! And if you have any asks about South Africa or the Afrikaans language, please don't hesitate! I'd be happy to share🇿🇦 Who knows, I might actually learn something about my own country in the process ☺️

there are too many languages i want to learn and i cannot figure out how to prioritize them
i'm focusing hard on korean for now, and working very slowly at just kind of introducing myself to mandarin
once i've got the korean at a usable level i think i want to put a lot of energy into a language that is more similar to english, spanish makes the most sense but the siren song of afrikaans calls to me
i would like to be steadily adding to the chinese vocabulary all while that is going on, and then maybe use the skills acquired from studying chinese to finally get somewhere with farsi
#and if i learn afrikaans i literally just might as well add dutch in there too#so that's what how many#6?#the only one i really have a definite desire to use at a particularly high level is korean#so that seems roughly doable within the next few years#depending on if i end up liking or hating those languages of course lol
