my notes:

my overall interpretation of this song is "I'm trying to break through the friend zone (friendship barrier) so that you like me instead of thinking of me as a friend", so any vagueness in translation went in that direction

The use of "lock horns" in the official translation snippet + the HAO motifs give me the mental image of like, a hand-to-hand kung fu battle, so I leaned towards that imagery whenever there was vagueness (as opposed to like, a military campaign, for example)

deco's official english translations tend to be very liberal, so i tried to keep my translation a little more literal

I've talked about this before, but I firmly believe professors who spend part of their career/life outside of academia, make better instructors overall. The irony of my ex-military, ex fuckin intel officers turned professors, were way more understanding of students complexities, nuances, and shortcomings versus any of my Creative writing/English professors is amusing. Not only were they more encouraging, but I always felt so secure in coming to them with an issue and they'd be like 'shit happens, do what you need to do, glad you're here.' I think fundamentally when you come from environments where you have to adapt, where you have to have the flexibility to deal with a million and one factors and personalities so to speak, you offer a better environment to cultivate learning.

I think throughout my entire creative writing minor, I only had two, maybe three professors who I *actually* enjoyed, and one of them was a screenwriting professor who had worked in the film industry, which supports my theory. But most of them had been in their position for 20 something years, and/or adjuncts freshly graduated without a lot of outside experience and I had to jump through a million hoops and passive aggressiveness for the most basic questions, or just to outright tell me 'too bad' for any minor request.

So yeah, I guess the thesis is to live more outside your bubble... Learn how to work with different people and give 'em a bit of compassion.

Sooo I started writing in 2020 when I was 17! (I’m 22 now). It was Covid so it was the perfect excuse to pick up a new hobby!

My first ever fic was a Izaya x reader from Durarara, and it’s still up somewhere on Quotev 😭😭 (it’s TERRIBLE pls don’t go looking for it I beg)

Then I started writing a Bakugo x OC fic that I never posted, even though I wrote like 40 chapters for it 🥲 I actually kinda popped off with that one ngl, but I wanted to post it when it was finished annnnd guess what? I never did—typical author things 😋

Sounds really stupid but the best advice I can give is just write every day 🤔 I used to force myself to write something, even if it was just a paragraph—even if it was just writing about my day, or describing something in my room. It just keeps your brain active and keeps that creative spark going ygm

Also, another thing that I 100% think helps—is reading!! Whether it’s other fanfics, but especially books!! The more writing styles you see, the more you’ll pick up on, even if you don’t realise it!

Something I like to do when I’m reading and I see a sentence or description like, is write it down in my notes so I don’t forget it—then I’ll use it as inspo for my own writing later on!

That’s pretty much it really!! Just keep writing and reading and slowly but surely you’ll make progress!! 💗

Haha, well, wouldn't call it dragging, just being realistic. I remember as a kid one summer I went on a vacation to France (sidetrack: this was the coolest holiday, my parents had rented a room in some old forlorn French chateau on a 1500 yard humongous plot with so many hidden, adventurous trails to discover. To a kid, that's heaven) There I first was introduced to kids from Britain. I thought their language was so cool, and I guess I was already aware of it being a world language, thus coming in handy later. Then I spent all rest of the summer begging my parents to tears to raise me bilingual (and threatened I'd refuse to speak Dutch anymore if they didn't) lol.
