my notes:

my overall interpretation of this song is "I'm trying to break through the friend zone (friendship barrier) so that you like me instead of thinking of me as a friend", so any vagueness in translation went in that direction

The use of "lock horns" in the official translation snippet + the HAO motifs give me the mental image of like, a hand-to-hand kung fu battle, so I leaned towards that imagery whenever there was vagueness (as opposed to like, a military campaign, for example)

deco's official english translations tend to be very liberal, so i tried to keep my translation a little more literal

Haha, well, wouldn't call it dragging, just being realistic. I remember as a kid one summer I went on a vacation to France (sidetrack: this was the coolest holiday, my parents had rented a room in some old forlorn French chateau on a 1500 yard humongous plot with so many hidden, adventurous trails to discover. To a kid, that's heaven) There I first was introduced to kids from Britain. I thought their language was so cool, and I guess I was already aware of it being a world language, thus coming in handy later. Then I spent all rest of the summer begging my parents to tears to raise me bilingual (and threatened I'd refuse to speak Dutch anymore if they didn't) lol.

I hate lists of synonyms for said.

I’m not a good writer, but I have read a lot. I understands that it’s about style. But a lot of lists I see have words that absolutely are not synonyms for saying something in a particular way. I know that I’m old and language is ever changing and it’s good to keep opening yourself up to new vocabulary but…

Said is fine. And a lot of the time the context will be such that you don’t even need any word for said. By all means use synonyms for said but when it serves your writing. But don’t force yourself for the sake of it.

May i ask are you armenian?

Nope, as I said in a different ask about my picture, I'm only interested in the culture. I obviously believe that the specific photo in question sends a really powerful message too, since it was taken during a genocide. Aka when the Armenians, the targeted group, were fighting back, like the two women in my pfp.

I also wish that one day I'll get the chance to visit the beautiful country of Armenia, because the Caucasus in itself is home to wonderful places rich in history. ❤️ (as for the language, atm I'm a bit busy, but who knows? Maybe one day I'll get the chance to finally focus on the Armenian language too! 😊)
