Actually still seeing people say stuff like “maybe the adlockers & sherlollies were right about sherlock being hetero-“

BOY. When did we say that? Who the hell is saying that?? Cause from where this adlocker’s sitting, sherlock is the most bisexual character on the show. He’s queer as hell. Man’s straight as a slinky. As bi as a bicycle.

…….Oh but I forgot that doesn’t actually count, because the only queer identities that are queer enough to count in their minds are gay men they can ship with other men without female interference. Right. My bad. Silly me thinking women had any place in the equation.

Seeing people turn this into a shipping thing or proof of asexual Sherlock or whatever is actually really annoying, because the point of this scene was to show Sherlock’s internal conflict over maintaining the emotionless machine persona vs admitting that he has feelings and craves human connection.

i'm not really opposed to irene and holmes being shipped or shown in a romantic relationship in an adaptation. as long as irene is well written and doesn't lose her canon personality im fine with it.. and i understand where adlockers are coming from, even though irene and holmes barely even talked - like, there are two equally amazing and intelligent characters! there's at least one sided respect! of course you'd want to see them interacting, to see them talking, to study them under a microscope

but the funny thing about adlock is that . it should be a niche ship for 10 weirdos with shipping goggles on who'd go "ooooh he never felt any emotion akin to love to adler but she was always The Woman for him THE IMPLICATIONSSSSS"

but what should have been a silly shipping conspiracy is the most mainstream opinion and a source of endless bad faith adaptations and goofy articles

irene adler wasn't even the only woman holmes was interested in! she was married to another person and didn't give a f about him! if you want to give holmes a female love interest so bad, why not avoid the overdone route and get silly? pair him with violet hunter or violet de merville? (lol i only listed violets as examples ☠️)

but NOOOOOO you can't even make a "what if watson was actually a woman" conspiracy, without pointing out that watson is not some random woman but irene adler herself

anyway afaik soviet holmes also followed the "holmes was in love with adler" route so im curious how this will turn out and looking forward to watch treasures of agra

BBC Adlock Referencing the Books

This has been my Roman Empire since I read the books when I was a kid: that Irene Adler must have been one hella beautiful woman.

Because in the second book, The Sign of Four, when Watson saw Mary Morstan for the first time when she consulted with Holmes:

((Also not Holmes being called a robot just because he was like: I don’t think anyone is interesting based on how pretty they are so I don’t really observe if someone is physically attractive… Also not this line being reflected in TRF when John says “She’s dying, you MACHINE!”))

So bro never makes exceptions and that the brain must not be clouded by personal emotional preferences frfr

But then the next book (altho it might also be cos Sir Arthur Conan Doyle doesn’t give a shit about continuity), which is “The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes”, in the first story which is “A Scandal in Bohemia”, he be like:

And I’ve always thought as a kid: damn, Irene Adler must be one hell of a woman that Holmes literally made her the exception of his “no one will be observed as beautiful for my personal emotional likes and dislikes”

Like she’s so beautiful that Holmes didn’t even just stop at “she’s a lovely attractive woman.”

No, Adler was just so damn beautiful, the man who would never observe a person based on his personal emotional biases, really said, “she has a face that a man might die for.”

Like she must be like… a reincarnation of Helen of Troy for him to say something like that

And my new Roman Empire now is that the BBC Series did not reflect that line verbally…

I was hoping to either Mrs Hudson or to Molly… like that one time in Bart’s when he was x-raying her possessions, when I first watched it, I was hoping it’ll go something like:

Molly: Is that a phone?

Sherlock: It’s a camera phone.

Molly: And you’re x-raying it?

Sherlock: Yes, I am.

Molly: Who’s phone is it?

Sherlock: A woman’s.

Molly: A criminal?

Sherlock (distractedly): ...She is a lovely woman——with a face that a man might die for...

Molly: Your girlfriend?!

Sherlock (confused): You think she’s my girlfriend despite that I’m x-raying her possessions.

Molly: Well, we all do silly things.

I have been thinking of this whole thing for 12 years. I’m surprised I only talked about it now.

Like Holmes kept three things from Adler: her photograph he got as reward from the King and the gold sovereign coin and (possibly) the letter she gave him herself.

And Sherlock kept her phone which he took from the government as his reward and it is the very same phone Irene gave him at Christmas 😭 and the texts (+ringtone) she gave him huhu

If Holmes has Adler’s coin in his watch chain…

And Victorian-John mentions Sherlock keeps her photograph in the watch he’s keeping…

(would like to note that no coin was mentioned concerning the watch so Dream-Irene isn’t married because Adler gives that to Holmes as a gift for helping her marriage)

And that both coin and photo in my theory is the original counterpart to her Vertu phone…

That means Sherlock brings her phone everywhere with him huhuhu

In possibly his jacket’s side pockets too since gentlemen don’t usually put anything in the side pockets since it’s too awkward for your arms when you grab something in it… so people usually put stuff they bring that they don’t use much

Which could be Irene’s camera phone 😭

currently obsessing over sylki and was wondering the other day why i felt a sense of deja vu and upon revisiting the adlock tag here are the similarities i discovered:

1. posh boys

2. badass queer women that unfortunately fall in love with said posh boys who ruined their masterplan of bringing a fascist organization in their respective universes to its knees (but it all worked out in the end)

3. frequently attacked by an mlm ship fandom who like to hate mentioned queer women and using their queerness to serve their mlm ship only

4. insane chemistry and sexual tension specializing in (but not limited to) foreplay by arguing/banter and face touching

5. posh boys and bamf women knowing their counterparts too well and simultaneously are mysteries to each other

6. incest allegations (if i had a nickel every time this happened to a ship of mine, i'd have three nickels. which isn't a lot, but it's weird that it happened thrice)

7. discussions about love and sentiment

8. are technically canon

Survived 'A Scandal in Belgravia'... again. I think, the main problem of this episode is that he came at a wrong time, when the writers just wanted to have fun and therefore made rather absurd decisions which prevented some viewers from taking this episode seriously. In my opinion, it would be much better if they would refrain from showing any UST between Sherlock and Irene and made them rivals, who work against each other in the first part of the episode but had to work together in the second one. And in the end they both could win (in a way) and part... maybe a little attracted to each other. I think such scenario would make Adlock one of the most popular ships of the show (certainly way ahead of Sherlolly and maybe even close enough to Johnlock) and Lara Pulver's Irene Adler would go down in history as the best incarnation of this character. Instead we have a jolly carrousel which is enjoyable enough but doesn't move as much as one wants to be moved. The whole 'Bond-affair' just looks unrealistic and childish and plays very effectively against the whole narrative. But at least Kate, Irene's maid, has the best female outfit in the whole series. And in Russian version Larisa Nekipelova (Лариса Некипелова) does a perfect voice acting for Lara Pulver.

Irene then proceeds to tell John, "look at us both" implying that Irene has feelings for Sherlock and that she suspects John has as well. Sherlock then deduces her pass code at the end of the episode based on signs of attraction, confirming she is romantically interested in Sherlock. It's okay to like Adlock.

If you wanna point fingers at someone, point it at Steven Moffat who wrote this "gay woman falls for man" storyline instead of making her bisexual.

Don't blame fans for being drawn to a dynamic shipping something that is clearly there, at least subtextually. No one should feel bad for what they ship.

This is not meant as an attack. (And is coming for someone who doesn't even believe Sherlock is attracted to women, btw).

In the battersea scene John says “I’m not actually gay” and Irene replies “Well I am.”

Summary:

While Sherlock's investigation on the suicide case progresses and he acquires the conviction that it may have been assisted, John and Molly spend a lovely afternoon together at the park with Rosie. Too bad they're interrupted by a call from Greg Lestrade, who just made a very unsettling discovery in a hotel room booked by Ema Nymton, the mysterious woman who burglarized Harold Boltroy's house shortly before he died. Mrs Hudson offers John to rent the 221C Baker Street, so he and Rosie can live closer to Sherlock.

Excerpt, inspired by the February prompt 'FEAR' proposed by @sherlockchallenge :

Hearing only silence from his partner, Sherlock repeated John's name, only to be met with an echoing void—John's absence, a persistent reminder. For a time, Sherlock had tried living with Billy Wiggins, a promising young man he had found on the streets, but Billy had disappeared one day and never returned. Sherlock blamed himself for scaring him away, though he knew it was for the best considering that Billy’s interests were limited to drug taking; he had hoped to teach Billy everything he knew and turn him into a good detective, but it hadn't worked out. Now, Sherlock lived alone, and sometimes loneliness crept inside him like a cold wind. It left him feeling helpless against the voices inside his head that whispered for him to end it all. But every time those voices came, he stood up straight and refused to listen.

Someday, death would come for him, whether he wanted it or not. Like the man from Samarra, he had run away from it many times before. One day, however, it would catch up with him. There were people waiting for him behind Death's curtain, eagerly awaiting his explanation for why they suffered and died because of him. Despite knowing this, Sherlock was not afraid to die. He knew his career path would lead him to an early grave, but he didn't fear it.

The only thing that scared him was the thought that maybe the people who believed in an afterlife were right, and the ones who suffered and died because of him were really waiting for him behind Death's curtain, eager to hear his explanation for what happened to them. As Sherlock put on his coat in the lobby downstairs, a sad-looking face appeared before him, staring at him intently. Dazed for a moment, he closed his eyes and shook his head to send the vision back away to the darkest corners of his memory, where it belonged.

Just as he was going to call a cab, determined to visit the late Harold Boltroy's assistant alone, Sherlock's phone rang in his pocket. A light of joy flashed in his eyes as he saw the caller's name on the screen; it was Greg Lestrade, at last!

“Sherlock? I’ve got some news. Is John with you?”

I have seen some posts today that make me want to check in— you guys are all using an ad blocker app on your phone right? On my iphone I’m running AdGuard and AdLock. Should I be running both? I don’t know but they’re both free and when I use YouTube through my browser I don’t get ads and also uh, maybe I don’t get ads another app that is relevant to us! (Except blazed posts of course.)

Anyway I assume this is a thing you can also go find on android phones, should you wish.
