Bridgestone e12 Contact Ball

The newest e12 Contact ball from Bridgestone continues the raised dimple center of the 2021 model but with a new cover formulation to improve the soft feel in a three-piece distance ball with more short game control.

WYNTK Bridgestone has updated the e12 Contact ball cover while keeping the unique dimple with a raised center area from the 2021 model. The dimple design increases contact with the club–46%–so more impact energy is transferred and reduces side spin. The result is what everyone is looking for, namely straighter shots with more distance.

The FLEXATIV cover is still Surlyn but with “impact modifiers” that Bridgestone says make the cover act firmer when hit with a driver to give faster ball speed but with short irons when control is wanted it acts softer and slower for more spin.

“FLEXATIV represents our fourth iteration of Contact Science,” said Adam Rehberg, Senior Manager, Ball Fitting and R&D. “Our engineers have found a way to combine the structural and chemical advantages of Contact Science and put them into one golf ball, creating a model that flies longer, straighter, and spins more on short shots around the green. It’s an impressive achievement in design and manufacturing.”

Compared with the previous version the new e12 Contact is $5 per dozen more, certainly trend in the club and ball business this year.

Bridgestone Golf Unveils Exciting Evolution of Its Industry-Leading Ball Fitting Program

Testing off the tee now complemented by approach shot data and greenside considerations

Bridgestone Golf, the #1 Ball-Fitter in Golf, is announcing exciting changes to its groundbreaking Ball Fitting program that will help golfers determine which golf ball is best suited for their game for tee shots, approach shots and greenside performance.

To date, Bridgestone’s Ball Fitting program has relied on a method of head-to-head driver testing - with a player’s current golf ball selection being pitted against a selection from the Bridgestone line that was derived from a series of driver swing measurements on its Science Eye launch monitors. In 2019, in addition to the trusted driver performance analysis, Bridgestone will begin measuring approach shot performance using an 8-iron as its testing control.  Bridgestone will look at spin rates, launch angle, ball speed and other key measurements to help determine changes in accuracy, consistency and distance on approach shots from ball-to-ball.  Once a player is fit into a category of ball based on the driver and approach shot testing, Bridgestone will provide that player with 2-ball sample sleeves to conduct their own greenside testing before making a final determination as to which ball they make their “gamer.”

“In 2006, we launched a program that changed the conversation golfers were having from which players were playing which balls on Tour, to which ball should I play that best fits my game,” said Adam Rehberg, Golf Ball Fitting Manager, Bridgestone Golf, Inc.  “As we have continued our efforts to educate consumers through many different methods about the best way to choose a golf ball fit for them, technology has advanced and consumers have become more sophisticated about what questions to ask.  So, in 2019, we are adding approach shot analysis and short-game considerations to our in-person fittings.  We will be able to confidently fit golfers the same way they play the game, from tee to green.”

Bridgestone’s Ball Fitting program, which launched in 2006 as “The Bridgestone Challenge,” is credited with being the first consumer-focused system to use science-based launch monitor data to educate golfers on how different golf balls affect their games - encouraging them to choose golf balls based on data metrics rather than the emotional appeal of what Tour players are playing.  What Bridgestone found was astonishing.  An incredible 7 out of 10 players tested benefitted from being fit for a golf ball, gaining distance and/or accuracy off the tee.  Through 2018, Bridgestone has conducted over 300,000 in person fittings and over 2.1 million golfers in total have been aided in their golf ball selection with tools like B-FIT Chat, On-Line Golf Ball Selector and the B-FIT Swing App that allows golfers to conveniently measure their swing characteristics using their smart phone’s camera.  In addition to being used as a diagnostic tool, Bridgestone has also relied on Ball Fitting in product R&D with several balls being developed as a result of information gleaned through the program.

In 2019, Bridgestone will return to a greater emphasis on its in-person fittings, relaunching teams of ball-fitting professionals to conduct one-on-one fittings at golf courses, retailers and other special events throughout the golf season.

“Greenside testing is challenging because feel is so subjective when it comes to player preferences on chips and pitches, so what better way for a player to ensure they have a ball that fits their game on and around the greens than doing some testing of their own with complimentary balls,” said Rehberg.  “We are confident that with the evolution of our Ball Fitting methodology golfers will have a clearer picture than ever before about how a golf ball’s construction impacts every facet of their game.”

Bridgestone’s new Ball Fitting program will kick-off in Atlanta during the Super Bowl Experience at the Georgia World Congress Center and Super Bowl LIVE in Centennial Park. Top 30 to Look Forward to at GenCon 2019 (#1-10)

This year’s GenCon was from Aug. 1-4, 2019. Here’s a look at the top 30 games I would’ve wanted to hunt down if I had been able to attend the convention. One game did come off my initial list because I got the chance to play it at my FLGS, and I didn’t enjoy it (Era: Medieval Age, sorry Matt Leacock, I’m still a fan; I just didn’t like this one).

This list was compiled using BGG’s GenCon Preview list provided by the wonderful W. Eric Martin. I sorted the games alphabetically by publisher, so the games are listed by publisher instead of the ones I’m looking forward to playing the most. Without further ado, here’s the list of my top 30!

Jurassic Parts - Published by 25th Century Games and designed by Kevin Lanzing, this appears to be a quick playing filler for 2-4 players. Kevin Lanzing previously designed Flash Point: Fire Rescue, which reminded me of a firefighting version of Pandemic (the core gameplay was clearly inspired by the cooperative game, Pandemic). In Jurassic Parts, players are archaeologists trying to place their chisels around hex tiles to chip off slabs of rock and collect fossils. The game plays in 15-30 min., which is why I wonder if it’s supposed to be a lightweight filler game. I like the theme--dinosaurs, which seems to be a hot theme since 2018-2019.  

Truck Off: The Food Truck Frenzy Roll & Write - Published by Adam’s Apple Games and designed by Adam Rehberg, this game is for 1+ players and takes about 30 minutes. It’s a roll & write about food--enough said! I’m interested in both the gaming mechanism and the theme.

Atelier: The Painter's Studio -  Published by AEG and designed by Nicholas Bongiu, this game is for 2-4 players and plays in 30-45 min. As far as I can tell using BGG, this appears to be the designer’s first published game. I like the art theme, and I like that the player’s board is shaped like a palette. I wonder how this game compares to Fresco, which is probably the most well-liked board game about art on the market currently.

Ecos: First Continent - Published by AEG and designed by John D. Clair, this is for 2-6 players in 45-75 min. In this game, “Players are forces of nature molding the planet, but with competing visions of its grandeur.“ I’m instantly intrigued by this world building game that has players competing to create their own vision of Earth!

Walking in Burano - This is the last title by AEG, designed by Wei Min-Ling. This is a quick playing game for 1-4 players in 20-40 min. This designer previously produced familiar titles, Hanamikoji (2016) and Burano (2015). Burano is a beautiful game in which you and competing players build up the island of Burano, giving the finished game board an eye-popping 3-D look. Walking in Burano appears to be a faster playing (Burano plays in 1.5-2 hrs) card based game. I think I’m drawn in by the colorful houses of Burano. It’s so picturesque--definitely a place I’d like to visit someday, if I can ever make it to Venice, Italy.

Tiny Towns - Published by AEG and designed by new designer, Peter McPherson, this game admittedly hit my list thanks to my friendly local game store (FLGS). I got to play it during my gaming store’s GenCan’t event, for all those who can’t make it to GenCon. The game is thinky and more challenging than what’s on the surface. I realized halfway through that I had placed a few early pieces poorly and wouldn’t be able to fill all spots on my board with buildings. I’m looking forward to the next time I get to play this game in hopes to redeem myself!

Welcome to Dino World - Published by Alley Cat Games and designed by a trio: James O'Connor, Nick Shaw, and Dávid Turczi. This looks like a roll & write game about building a dinosaur park (remember that theme from last year?). It’s for 1+ players in 40-70 min. I don’t understand why it takes so long to play this game, but I’m still interested in the theme!

Arkeis - Published by Ankama and designed by a quartet: Antoine Bauza, Corentin Lebrat, Ludovic Maublanc, and Théo Rivière.  Antoine Bauza is a well established designer in the industry, designing games such as 7 Wonders, Ghost Stories, Takenoko, Hanabi, Conan, Tokaido, Terror in Meeple City, Oceanos, Victorian Masterminds...I could go on and on. He made card drafting fun with 7 Wonders and Oceanos. He’s experimented with different game mechanisms and has experience working with other designers. Ludovic Maublanc is also an impressive designer, having worked on games such as Cyclades, Mr. Jack, Conan, Cash ‘n Guns, Dice Town, and Kingdomino Duel. The other two designers appear to be lesser known, although it’s worth noting that Théo also designed Nagaraja, a quick playing 2-player game that seems to have gotten some buzz this year. Enough about the designers’ pedigrees, let’s talk about the game! Arkeis caught my eye because it appears to be a legacy style, cooperative, Egyptian themed adventure game. From the publisher, Arkeis is “a story-driven, cooperative miniatures game in which players explore ancient Egyptian ruins... Each scenario comes with objectives the players may accomplish during the game. Completing these will reward them with new key items or upgrades that will influence later scenarios.” If all of that doesn’t make you intrigued, I don’t know what will.

Draftosaurus - Published by Ankama and designed by the same group above: Antoine Bauza, Corentin Lebrat, Ludovic Maublanc, and Théo Rivière. This little game is for 2-5 players and plays in 15 min. I think it’s a dino-themed “Sushi Go” type of drafting game that includes dino meeples! You draft uniquely shaped dinosaurs! What’s not to love? Did I mention that dinosaurs seems to be a hot theme this year?

The Stygian Society - Published by APE Games and designed by Kevin Wilson, this co-op is for 1-4 players and takes 1-2 hours. From the publisher, “Players drop cubes into the tower based on which skills they select but also cubes for the enemies. Both players and the enemies act based on what drops out the bottom.” I love co-op games, and the cube tower sounds interesting. I haven’t played many cube tower games (I’ve never played Amerigo), but I have experience with Mord Im A Rosa.

[Blank] My Life | Kiss & Tell (The Stories Behind a Series)

I’m Alex Spieth the writer and creator of the show [Blank] My Life. When I first started writing the series, everything was very close to home (read literally nearly verbatim to the dates I went on).  In the Pre-Season, I go on a date with a Princeton grad, and guess what I was doing in real life?! The Princeton grad got two series moments before vanishing into the ether-net. I don’t know where the real or fictionalized version of that dude is, but he definitely got killed off the series which means in the alternate reality of Real Life he's probably running a hedge-fund. 

In my Creative Corner, I’m going to compare the real life experience with the way it played out on screen, and declare the winner via Fact or Fiction!

Reality: Went on a date with a dude who asked me to turn around so he could see how short my shorts were. I obliged and we made out in public. At the end of the date, he wanted to pursue the relationship further. I ghosted. This was in October after I had moved to the city. In school, I had been awarded the Adelyne Roth Memorial Award for Acting, and, in the city, the only way I was putting it to use was to pretend to be more interested into dumb dudes. Couldn’tget a callback, but could get some…

Fiction: True to form. Benjamin Viertel, co-collab in arms/person whose artistic voice I value over all, directed and it felt like we were getting somewhere. 

Winner: FICTION, because when you write the series, YOU are the empathetic character even though you might not be IRL.

Reality: Went on a dude that compared me to Giselle Bundchen so much that he turned into a potential homosexual below my eyes. We drank 3 drinks, and he told me wine had too much sugar in it for him to drink. This was shortly after I got dropped by my acting agency, and I thought, let’s drink up, dude, no more coffee, cause it’s time to go to sleep til my life improves.

Fiction: My friend, Nick Rehberger, was a better fake date the dude. This episode was the beginning of the descent into making a real series (oh, the slow descent into alcoholism began with a single 5 minute episode on YouTube).  

WINNER: Fiction: because it made me who I am. Also, the truth is too dark a time to want to go back there. 

EX-BF:

Reality: I went on a coffee date with my ex-bf, and we talk about some stuff.

Fiction: I went on a coffee date with my ex-bf, and we talk about some stuff.

WINNER: Reality. While the conversation in the episode is scripted (not true to life and not things that either of us said verbatim), this episode was a good learning lesson that while things are near and dear and tragic to your own heart, there should be more on an EVENT in scripted things. I felt like I had played a bit too inside baseball with the series on this one. Ex-Bf and I are good friends in real life, and not every dude is gonna be down to play himself on a web show. Reality won this one, and good game, universe. Try better next time.

ENDING:

Reality: This reality was a mash of giving gifts to an ex (grapefruit spoons and other useless things than when woven together spelled L-O-V-E) and a story that totally belongs to someone who is not me.  This dude I know got broken up with an then got into a car believing it was an uber. The car was not an uber and the dude had to get back out and wait with his ex. 

Fiction: I had written the thing, and still hadn’t gotten license from my friend to use the story, so I rolled the dice and filmed it anyway. We filmed on a day in December, and a homeless dude stole 2 of the dudes' working on the series coats. We were young and scrappy, but mostly just....so cold.

WINNER: Reality, because no one got their coats stole.

Reality: This was based on the first OkCupid date I ever went on. We drank like 25 vodka sodas each and nothing really happened. I didn’t go home with him, and he didn’t go home with me. It felt like we were on two planes of conversation, and neither of us could quite make it back to each other. This was right after I graduated and when I felt like: If I can’t be successful, I should AT LEAST have the dignity of being in love! However, life is….tragic.

Fiction: Adam Hagenbuch, person I know is going to be the Oscar Winner I know, filmed and edited and did the after-effects to make the episode what it was in post. It’s way scarier and more nuts than it was in real life. This episode to me is a great example of making the event happen even if it doesn’t necessarily appear in the writing. Which is to say: Your friends know better than you sometimes.

WINNER: Fiction, and OSCARS ALL AROUND!

**While I may give credit to reality in this article, the truth of the matter is that, like The House, The Series always wins.
