Acne is the most common skin condition in the world. It’s long overdue that we push back against the narrative that ‘natural’ skin is ‘perfect’ skin.

Digital illustration of a brown fem with blonde hair. She's wearing a striped sweater and is whispering, 'acne doesn't mean unhygienic.' Around her are blurbs with some causes of acne including, 'makeup, diet, poor sleep, stress, environment changes and hormone changes.'

I’ve usually worn makeup to cover my scars when I go out but lately I’ve just not been covering them up and honestly I realized no one gives a shit about my scars other than me

idk if im allowed to say this but like acne scars are kinda cute??? not even kinda cute I think theyre straight up attractive? they're an attractive feature??
I mean maybe it's just bc every.single.person i've ever met w acne scars has been hot but at a certain point the correlation can't just be coincidental, right?

Eeeeeeeeemira! She has acne scars. I just, oh man this makes me so happy. First in that she was shown as a character with acne as a teenager and then here it’s just. There is so little good rep of characters with acne in kids and young adult media and that’s especially frustrating because that’s where that rep is especially needed. And yes, she is a side character but it’s still so refreshing to see her as an adult with acne scars and it being shown as normal and fine.

Hi there! Asking for a friend.
So when I was a teen, I had a lot of acne on my forehead, temples, nose, chin, and jaw. I'm now 22 and like a lot of young adults, it's gotten better but I still have acne on my jaw, and some acne scars all over my face, as well as blackheads on my nose.
I have a mixed skin type (meaning it's both greasy and dry), and I moisturize after the shower, but I've gotten into the habit of exfoliating every day with a face scrub, and it's been brought to my attention that it might be the reason why my skin keeps getting so grainy after a few hours.
Problem is, if I don't use face scrub every day, my skin gets all grainy so it's like this vicious circle where I have to entertain a bad habit which only makes things worse, cause if I don't then my skin looks bad (kind of like when you wash your hair every day because if you don't it's greasy, but the reason it's greasy is that you wash it every day, see what I mean?).
So I'm getting really desperate, I don't know what to do anymore. I don't have bad enough skin to try roaccutane (and I've had some scary reviews from people who have, so it's not an option anyway), and I feel like I've tried everything. So if you guys have had the same problem and have found solutions, I'd be really grateful if you could share them with me :)
Thank you in advance!

Short scene between Sun and Reader in my DBH au fic; Red Light, Blue Light about acne scars set later in the story <3 wasnt sure what to do with it so im just posting it here, but might at it to the drabble on ao3 i have as a small collection.
-------
"What is this?" Sun asks, a gentle poke to your cheek to indicate what he's asking about.
"Whats what?" You shoot back, and he tells you it appears to be tiny scars scattered across your jaw and cheek. Your heart stumbles as you realize he's asking about acne scars. You don't know why the question feels invasive. Everyone has acne, and most people pick at them, creating some scaring. You were just one of those people.
"Uhh they're acne scars." You answer casually, or as casually as you can, hoping he takes the answer as is and goes back to sorting todays drawings from the kids.
He pauses and stares at you, and you glance at him feeling unnerved. Theres a faint yellow flicker of light under his pale hair. Oh, to be preinstalled with a search engine in your brain. You wonder briefly if they put Google in the poor bastards or if CyberLife has its own dedicated database with a search function.
He hums, and you wait for the lecture on how unsanitary it is or how damaging it is. You can't help the cynicism, as much as you bite the inside of the cheek that isn't facing him to let the thoughts go.
"Fascinating," he almost sounds amazed, "I have synthetic fluid, not a synthetic skin organ to mimic you, so we can't scar from damage like that. But it is so interesting the lengths the human body will go to heal itself, no matter how small. It deems it so necessary and important to protect you from anything it can! Im grateful for that."
You swallow the sudden emotion as you look up at him. He looks so excited to learn about acne scars, and you wish you could tell him how much that means to you. Your words press against the back of your teeth, clawing to escape an ivory prison, but all you manage is a tight-lipped smile. You hope it's enough. You hope he understands.
Of course, he understands. He perks up and smiles brightly with knowing eyes. He knows you. He knows that small smile and the way your eyebrow crooks a little when you're sincere. Andisn'tt it wonderful? To be known, and loved anyway?

I’m sorry ya’ll, what in the hell is this, actually? What is this shenanigans? This tomfoolery? I actually let out the ugliest cackle when I saw this.
How are they going to use an edited after photo where you can’t even see the before’s side of her face, and she’s no doubt wearing makeup in the after. I just can’t understand why brands to do this, like do they think we’re blind?
Now take down these notes for the quiz, ladies: Having her hair all nice and a cute outfit and the big smile are all ploys to make you think this product will make you beautiful and solve all your problems. It could very well be a stock photo because it sure looks like one.
Before and after images like this, and girl I’ve seen them often, make the brand/product almost an immediate no for me. Please tell me if you've seen some crap like this before. We need to band together and stop this nonsense for real.

flashback to that time when i saw a friend obsessively picking at her skin and i was like "wow she gets me! I'm so glad it's not j me" so we spent like several (non-consecutive) hours passing a tiny mirror back and forth destroying our skin and then a few weeks later she got institutionalized

Age-Defying Beauty: Skin Tightening Solutions for Every Skin Type
Tumblr media
Skin tightening is a universal desire that transcends age, gender, and skin type. As we age, our skin inevitably loses some of its youthful elasticity, leading to sagging, wrinkles, and fine lines. However, the good news is that there are skin tightening solutions available to address the unique needs of every skin type. Whether you have dry, oily, sensitive, or combination skin, understanding the right approach is key to achieving the firmer and more youthful appearance you desire.
Dry Skin: Hydration and Nourishment
Individuals with dry skin often experience more pronounced signs of aging due to the skin's reduced ability to retain moisture. To tighten and rejuvenate dry skin:
Rich Moisturizers: Choose moisturizers with hydrating ingredients like hyaluronic acid, glycerin, and ceramides. These ingredients help lock in moisture and improve skin texture.
Nourishing Oils: Incorporate facial oils, such as argan oil or jojoba oil, into your skincare routine to replenish lost moisture and promote skin elasticity.
Collagen-Boosting Serums: Look for serums containing collagen-boosting ingredients like vitamin C, peptides, and retinol to enhance skin firmness.
Oily Skin: Balancing and Tightening
Oily skin can still experience sagging and loss of firmness. The key is to balance excess oil production while tightening the skin:
Oil-Free Moisturizers: Opt for lightweight, oil-free moisturizers to provide hydration without exacerbating oiliness.
Salicylic Acid: Incorporate products with salicylic acid to help control excess oil and improve skin texture.
Non-Comedogenic Products: Choose skincare products labeled as non-comedogenic to prevent clogged pores while addressing skin tightening concerns.
Sensitive Skin: Gentle Approaches
Sensitive skin requires extra care and gentle solutions to avoid irritation while achieving skin tightening:
Fragrance-Free Products: Use fragrance-free, hypoallergenic skincare products to reduce the risk of irritation.
Mild Exfoliation: Opt for gentle exfoliation methods, like enzyme masks or lactic acid, to promote skin renewal without causing redness.
Patch Testing: Before incorporating new products, patch test them to ensure they don't trigger adverse reactions.
Combination Skin: Targeted Care
Combination skin requires a balanced approach, addressing both oily and dry areas, to achieve skin tightening:
Zone-Specific Products: Use different products for the oily and dry areas of your face. For example, apply a lighter moisturizer on the oily zones and a richer one on the dry zones.
Spot Treatments: Target specific areas with skin tightening serums or treatments, focusing on the regions that need the most attention.
Balancing Masks: Consider using masks designed to balance combination skin, which often combines clay and hydrating ingredients.
Normal Skin: Maintenance and Prevention
While normal skin types may not have extreme concerns, maintaining skin elasticity is essential for long-term skin health:
Preventive Care: Implement a preventative approach by using sunscreen daily to protect against UV damage, which accelerates skin aging.
Collagen-Boosting Ingredients: Use products containing collagen-boosting ingredients like vitamin A, vitamin C, and peptides to maintain skin firmness.
Regular Skincare Routine: Stick to a consistent skincare routine that includes cleansing, moisturizing, and using targeted treatments for your specific skin tightening needs.
Mature Skin: Advanced Treatments
Mature skin often requires more advanced skin tightening solutions to address deeper wrinkles and sagging:
Retinoids: Incorporate prescription-strength retinoids or retinol products to stimulate collagen production and improve skin texture.
Professional Treatments: Consider non-invasive treatments like radiofrequency therapy or ultrasound therapy, which can provide noticeable skin tightening results.
Consult with Professionals: Schedule consultations with dermatologists or skincare experts to explore customized solutions, such as chemical peels or microdermabrasion.
Conclusion
Achieving skin tightening for every skin type is not only possible but essential for maintaining a youthful appearance and promoting skin health. By tailoring your skincare routine to your specific skin type and concerns, you can effectively address sagging, wrinkles, and loss of firmness. Remember that consistency and patience are key to achieving and maintaining skin tightening results. Consulting with skincare professionals can also provide valuable insights and guidance on the most suitable treatments for your unique skin type. Whether your skin is dry, oily, sensitive, combination, normal, or mature, there are solutions available to help you achieve the firm and radiant skin you desire.
