The Conservative Party of Canada is denying involvement in bolstering Pierre Poilievre’s recent appearance in Kirkland Lake using what appears to be fake social media accounts, called bots. In the days following the Conservative Party of Canada leader’s tour of Northern Ontario, which included a stop in Sudbury, numerous accounts on X.com have posted about their experience. “Pierre Poilievre’s northern Ontario tour is bringing people together! As a northerner myself, I’m thrilled to see a leader who gets it,” one post purportedly from someone in Wyoming read. “Last night’s rally in Kirkland Lake was electric — the packed crowd was a testament to his commitment to our community.” Numerous nearly identical posts from throughout the world were also posted to social media, prompting online ridicule, including one post on X.com parodying the situation by showing a large crowd of thousands of people purporting to have attended the Kirkland Lake rally.

Const. Simeon Howarth, donning his uniform in a conference room, pressed his fingers against a device clipped to the front of his protective vest. A couple of beeps rang through the room and a red light started to blink: the camera was recording. Howarth, a member of the Edmonton Police Service's transit community safety teams, has worn a body camera for more than a year as part of a pilot project. He demonstrated the device to media members Friday, as the service announced it has started issuing the cameras to more officers throughout its ranks. "The goals of the body-worn cameras are multifaceted," said Darren Derko, deputy chief of the EPS community policing bureau. "But overall, they aim to create a more efficient accountability process and reduce use-of-force incidents for both officers and the public."

i'm seeing so many people say shit like the ICJ is ~bullshit~ because they didn't call for a ceasefire. they literally ordered israel to stop any acts of genocide and to stop fucking killing people and allow in humanitarian aid and in order to comply, that means a fucking ceasefire. israel has been ordered to report back within a month of this ruling (this ruling essentially only being that they've found south africa's case sufficient to move forward – israel wanted it thrown out) to show whether or not they've followed through. and gives the court even more leverage.

we all know israel won't comply. the ICJ knows israel won't comply.

but this puts the western world on notice. every single country that has aided israel is now on notice that they are supporting genocide. it means the western world and countries that have sat on the sidelines are being told in no uncertain terms that they have an obligation to stop the genocide. the world has been put on notice. and THAT is a big deal.

it's an incredible victory.

with the whole nolpat situation, i really hope this is a reality check for some people who are dedicated fans of these players (in any sport not just hockey) because this is a teeny tiny glimpse of how a lot of these dudes are. there are a lot of genuinely amazing dudes in the nhl doing amazing things for their community but please remember at the end of the day, they are still privileged wealthy white men who happen to be good at your favorite sport.
