Or! Instead of shelling out $30+ for a pair of loop earplugs, you could go over to etymotic and get a 2 pack of their high fidelity passive earplugs for around $20! Each pair come in an extremely practical and low profile carrying case (I keep mine on my keychain and the spares with my jewelry at home). They can be washed with regular soap and water. They're basically invisible when they're in. They're friendly to pierced ears. They sound great, like they're turning the volume on the world down without dulling or muffling it. I've been using them for ~15 years to quiet situations ranging from annoying fan in the office to big power tools in the machine shop to snoring bedmate and they win every single time.
this is an accessibility aid post for neurodivergent people, because I feel bad keeping this information to myself.

^ these are loop earplugs and they help you manage sound, these work great for migraines and people with sound sensitivity bc of autism/trauma/anxiety, etc. they come with multiple sized ear tips and the sound muffler silicone ring. I bought the loop engage plus, I'm a very burnt out + overwhelmed person. these make my annoying clock go away without me having to take out the batteries.

^ flare earplugs, but I consider them more ear funnels? they allow more airflow into your ears for clearer sound. these work great for tinnitus, anxiety and autistic people. I haven't tried these yet and they have a lot less reviews on tiktok compared to loop.
if you need to search out cheaper brands I've only seen alternatives similar to loop on Amazon, look into decibels and your daily life needs, especially if you work. I feel my engage pro is great for daily home life with older children, pets, natural noises in your day, school, or work. but in a louder work setting like a factory, construction, daycare, or a theme park, I'm afraid these wouldn't work as good as experience might. I recommend checking out tiktok + reddit reviews if you're unsure.

Hi there!!! I was wondering if you happened to have any fics where Crowley calls Aziraphale ‘sweetheart’? Any other pet names are amazing (including angel of course) but I’m just very in love with the idea of Crowley calling Aziraphale sweetheart
Thank you so much for all you hard work!! This blog is a lifesaver <3
Hello! We have a #pet names tag you might enjoy, but here are some fics in which Crowley calls Aziraphale sweetheart...
Four times Crowley called Aziraphale "sweetheart" without noticing (and One time he did) by TheLadyZephyr (NR)
"Sweetheart" (1290) - A person who is very dear to another; one who is loved. From sweet (adj.) + heart (n.) Over the years, Crowley has called Aziraphale "sweetheart" on at least four different occasions. He just hasn't actually noticed himself saying it.
In love, I am, with everything you do by 2ambiace (G)
Following the phone call with Crowley during lockdown, Aziraphale contemplates the letter he wrote and whether he should've taken Crowley up on his offer to 'slither over' and watch him eat cake. Aziraphale finds the courage in his love for Crowley to invite the demon over and cake and love confessions and kisses are shared.
Let Our Epilogue Be Soft And Sweet by Tenoko1 (T)
Crowley hit his palm against the steering wheel. “Of course I’d get upset, angel! Those bastards have tried to kill you twice, Aziraphale! Twice! I spend every damn day worried they might try again! Now-- Now-- your conveniently found and rescued angel is on the loose,” the road forked, and they veered off to a smaller country road, flying past a sign Aziraphale didn’t need to see to recognize, though Crowley gestured wildly to it, “in a god-forsaken national park? Well outside of London where no one can hear you scream? This mystery angel that just so happens to be leaking grace and emoting a distress signal so loud you can still sense it?” Crowley dragged a hand down his face. “Angel, sweetheart. Wake up and smell the trap.”
Waking Up Married by Caedmon (E)
"So you’re telling me that my options are either to convince this man I just met and drunkenly married to stay married to me for six months or lose two thirds of a billion pounds?” “That’s exactly what I’m telling you,” Fergus said. “Fucking shit,” Crowley spat. He hung up the phone and stared at it for a moment before rubbing his eyes with his fists. Now his job would be twice as hard. He needed to talk Aziraphale into staying married for six months. Should he try begging or bribing? This was a huge ask, and Aziraphale would be well within his rights to tell Crowley to fuck off. But Crowley was prepared to offer him pretty much anything, up to half of the trust, if that’s what it took. He didn’t care. But that was only part of his concern. Even if he got insanely lucky and Aziraphale agreed to stay legally married to him for the next six months, how the hell was he going to talk Aziraphale into dating him during that time? And was it foolish to even try? One thing at a time, he decided. First, he needed to convince Aziraphale to stay legally married to him. Then he could set about wooing his husband. He hoped.
flightless by viperinz (T)
Crowley finds Aziraphale injured and without his wings long after he stops the Second Coming all on his own. He just didn't expect their reunion to be so morose, and so final.
Sugar And Spice by ladydragona, SylWritesStuff (E)
Queer technology giant Anthony J. Crowley is just about ready to throw in the towel after relationship after relationship has failed, but there's a new barista at the company coffee shop and he's cute and sweet and Crowley's never been able to resist blond hair and blue eyes. The tabloids will have a field day, they always do, but his assistant is getting married and a temp is needed. A temp who really isn't very good at making complicated coffees, has past experience in reception, and absolutely no idea that the latest complicated coffee order came from the owner himself. Aziraphale only knows that he's handsome, patient, and was the first person who told him he was doing well. How could he refuse the temp position? Or, he soon discovers, more.

Giorno is the type to base his YouTube content around music, focusing on the history behind certain artists while also aiming to introduce people to more obscure musicians. He has an entire ten-part series on Jeff Beck alone. It comes across a tad bit elitist, but he’s quick to grow a following due to his reliable information and passionate delivery.
While not one to upload consistently, Abbacchio talks about true crime on his channel. He used to do conspiracy theories at times too, but eventually pulled back on doing so. His videos are never under an hour long at the very least. After finally releasing a video (usually occurs around once a month), the comment section is full of people expressing excitement to see him on their feed. Definitely makes content that people enjoy falling asleep to.
Fugo himself occasionally dips his toe into true crime content. However, his focus is mainly informing people on subjects including history, media literacy, and even philosophy at times. He has a series dedicated to giving as much information on a specific topic in the smallest amount of time possible. Outside of those select videos, they’re all usually hours long. College students especially consider him a lifesaver.
Mista and Narancia both host a podcast where they upload episodes on YouTube, as well as other platforms. It’s comedy oriented and subject matter varies a lot. They could be discussing a book Mista read one week, and how Narancia’s a terrible cook the next. The appeal largely stems from their chemistry together, their audience finding them absolutely hilarious and often saying that they could listen to them ramble for hours on end.
Without a doubt, Trish’s makeup tutorials are both fun and informative- inspiring, even. Outside of that, she also reviews clothing brands and their latest releases. Trish is seemingly always on top of those reviews specifically, coming out with a video on the matter rather fast. At times, she makes videos giving tips on how to better take advantage of deals or coupons when shopping. Every now and then, she appears as a guest host on Mista and Narancia’s podcast.
Although a tad bit technologically inept and generally disinterested in content creation to even think of making anything himself, Bucciarati is always sure to support the others however he can. Across the board, he’s everyone’s number one fan. Similarly to Trish, Narancia and Mista have attempted to get him on their podcast. He always refuses.

All Jayce fangirls and Viktor simps alike must put our differences aside and realize that they should walk free & Heimerdinger should be tried for war crimes instead. in this essay i will
explain my reasoning for this statement. like it’s mostly jokes but this sentient World Market rug invokes my ire. see, Heimerdinger has had a seat in Piltover’s council for the better part of 3 centuries if we believe what he has told us. during 3 centuries of leadership, he has:
done nothing to supply the Undercity with proper food, shelter, housing, education, causing hundreds if not thousands to remain in destitute poverty
done nothing to prevent Enforcers from abusing their authority by brutalizing and discriminating against any people from the Undercity who so much as try to start something aboveground, leading hundreds if not thousands to not even try to get out of the fissures due to their distrust of law enforcement
done nothing to address the literal ORGANIZED CRIMINAL UNDERBELLY of profiteering shitheads that rules the Undercity, that everyone in Piltover knows exists. why else would they think all of the Undercity is “dangerous.” & he does literally nothing to prevent this from happening
the other council members are complicit in a lot of horrible shit, don’t get me wrong. but they are young enough that it’s believable that they’re making such grave mistakes based on bias. Heimerdinger even says himself that as an immortal being, humans don’t realize how often they repeat history when telling Jayce not to pursue the study of magic as an avenue to create lifesaving technology for working-class ppl. like why has this overgrown magic rodent sat in one spot for over 300 years, done absolutely nothing to help the people who clearly are suffering - like he didn’t even TRY to set up a better govermental system than a fucking bourgeois oligarchy - and then proceeded to get MAD at the first person to even be like “hey ppl should at least have things that make their job easier” like what the FUCK why is this inbred Barbie Fairytopia lookin creature SO intent on maintaining a status quo that forbids magic use or study when he’s LITERALLY A YORDLE??? HELLO??
i yearn for the day Heimerdinger returns from his time traveling journey so I can see him handcuffed for his crimes against humanity. or like at the very least have a redemption arc.

As much as I complain about the (at its core, justified) backlash to corporate AI going in counterproductive-at-best directions here, I would like to take a moment to talk about what I would like to see done about the problem of corporate swarming all over AI as a moneymaking fad.
First, I must address the true root of the problem: as we all know, a lot of the types of people known derogatorily as techbros jumped ship from cryptocurrency and NFTs to AI after crypto crashed...multiple times. Why AI? Why was it the next big thing?
Well, why was crypto the previous? Because it was novel and unregulated. Why did it crash? Because of the threat of regulation.
It is worth mentioning, at this point, that the threat of regulation ended up doing massive harm to people who used crypto for reasons OTHER than speculative investment scams. This included a lot of people who engaged in business that is illegal but lifesaving (e.g., gray-market pharmaceuticals), and people who engaged in business that is technically legal but de facto illegal due to payment processors hating it (e.g., porn and other online sex work) - i.e., a lot of extremely vulnerable people. Stick a pin in this, it will be important.
AI is a novel and largely unregulated field. This makes it EXTREMELY appealing to venture capitalists and speculative investors - they can fuck around and do basically whatever they want with little to no oversight, and jump ship the moment someone says "all right, this is ridiculous you CANNOT just keep pretending it's a rare fluke when your beefed-up autocomplete chat bot makes up garbage information, and the next clown who decides that a probability function trained on the ableism and pop-psych poisoned broader internet is a viable substitute for trained mental health counselors is losing any licenses they have and/or getting fined into bankruptcy." They've always been like this - when technology is too new for us to even know how we SHOULD regulate it, the greedy capitalists flock to it, hoping to cash out quick before an ounce of responsibility catches up to them, doubly so when it's in a broader field that's already notoriously underregulated, such as the tech sector in the US right now.
That tendency is bad for literally everyone else in the process.
Remember what I said about how the crypto crackdown hurt a lot of very vulnerable people? Well, developers aren't lying when they say that AI can have extremely valuable, pro-human applications, from AAC (which it's already serving as; this is, imo, THE most valuable function of ChatGPT), to health and safety - while we absolutely should not entrust things like reading medical images and safety inspections to AI without oversight, with oversight it's already helping us find cancers faster, because while computers are fallible, so are humans, and we're fallible in different ways. When AI is developed with human-focused applications in mind over profit-focused ones, it can very easily become another slice of Swiss cheese to add to one of our most useful safety models.
It can also be used for automation...for better, and for worse. Of course, CEOs and investors are currently making a hard push for "worse".
That's why I find it very important to come up with a comprehensive plan to regulate AI and tech in general against false advertisement/scams and outright endangerment, without cutting too deep into the potential it has for being genuinely good.
My proposals are as follows:
PRI. VA. CY. LAW. PRIVACY LAW. PRIVACY LAW. As it stands now, US law regarding online privacy and data security - which is extremely pertinent because most of the most unscrupulous developers are US-based - is at best a vicious free-for-all that operates entirely on manufactured "consent", and at worst actively hostile to everyone but corporate interests. We need to change that ASAP. As it stands, robots.txt instructions (and other similar things, such as Do Not Track flags) are legally...a polite request that developers are 100% allowed to just ignore if they feel like it. The entire mainstream internet is spyware. This needs to change. We need to impose penalties for bypassing others' privacy preferences and bring the US up to speed with the EU when it comes to privacy and data security. This will solve the problem that many are counterproductively trying to solve by tightening copyright law with more side benefits and none of the drawbacks.
Health and safety audits and false advertising crackdowns. Penalties must be imposed on entities who knowingly use AI in inappropriate and unsafe applications, and on AI developers who misrepresent the utility of their tools or downplay their potential for inaccuracy. Companies using AI in products with obvious potential hazards, from robotics to counseling, are subject to safety audits to make absolutely sure they're not cutting corners or understating risks. Developers who are found to be understating the limitations of their software or cutting safety features are subject to fines and loss of licenses.
Robust union protections, automation taxes, and beefing up unemployment/layoff protection. Where automation can and cannot be used in the professional sector should never be a matter of law beyond the safety aspect, but automation rollouts do always come with drawbacks - both in the form of layoffs, and in the form of complicating the workflow in the name of saving a buck. The government cannot make sweeping judgments about how this will work, because it's literally impossible for them to account for every possibility, but they CAN back unions who can. Workers know their workflow best, and thus need the power to say, for instance, "no, I need to be able to communicate with whoever does this step, we will not abide by it being automated without oversight or only overseen by someone we can't communicate with adequately, that pushes the rest of our jobs WAY beyond our pay grade" or "no, we're already operating on a skeleton crew, we will accept this tool ONLY if there are no layoffs or pay cuts; it should be about getting our workload to a SUSTAINABLE level, not overworking even fewer of us". Automation taxes can also both serve as an incentive for bosses to take more time considering what they do and do not want to automate, and contribute to unemployment/layoff protection (and eventually UBI). This will ensure that workers will be protected, even when they're not in fields as visible and publicly appreciated as arts.
In conclusion, the AI situation is a complicated one that needs nuance, and it needs to be approached and regulated in a pro-human, pro-privacy way.

tell me how other free! characters feel about air fryers
i will answer this as i lie here, curled up in bed, air-fryer nestled in the loop of my arms. here we go.
makoto: the air-fryer is the only thing he knows how to work in the kitchen apart from, say, the coffee machine (because of course sweet, sweet makoto wakes up early to make coffee for his hardworking parents). he is legally obligated to know how to use one. ran and ren ask him to fry karaage every now and then when their parents are at work and as someone who is terrified of the gas stove (among other things), the air-fryer is quickly his best friend. he thinks it is a wonderful kitchen tool. a lifesaver. an absolute delight. keep gas stoves far, far away from him.
nagisa: is indifferent about the air-fryer. if it hums and it cooks and it puts food in his mouth, that's good enough for him! also knows how to work the air-fryer because he's had to cook with his sisters on multiple occasions and they do not trust him with the stove. he nearly blew up the kitchen once, before they had an air-fryer. once is enough.
rei: has studied the air-fryer instruction manual front to back several times in the course of an hour before teaching his parents (and brother) how to use it when they first got it. knows when the air-fryer was first invented. understands how the food cooks in the tray of said air-fryer. thinks of it as "state of the art technology"; admires it for its sleek, simple, pragmatic design. uses it every now and then to prepare snacks for when nagisa comes over.
rin: he watched his mother use an air-fryer to steam cakes, fry katsudon etc etc when he was a wee child. thinks it's very practical for someone like him who is always busy with training and rarely has the time to stock up on ingredients. still prefers the stove and is sceptical about the versatility of an air-fryer because he isn't sure how varied his diet can be if he depends solely on it (despite the convenience it brings). but then he reads some obscure article about how healthy air-frying can be and so he becomes more favourable of it. sometimes. he relays this article to haru.
sousuke: like haru, he regards the air-fryer with mild disdain. his family literally owns a restaurant. he knows how to cook; he learnt from his father, and his father doesn't believe in all these modern thing-a-majigs. says the food tastes better if it's authentic (as if to say food cooked from an air-fryer isn't). he can cook better on a stove, but he doesn't entirely dismiss it the way haru initially had. thinks it's useful for easy recipes, at least. wouldn't turn to one unless it's a last resort, however.
kisumi: doesn't care. when can we play basketball?

Week 2 - Blog Post 1. I started with Max Stossel's lecture on how specifically social media is engineered to influence our activity. One anecdote that was fascinating was it seems to be the only business where the goals of the people providing the product does not align with goals of the user. In manufacturing, for example, the business's sole purpose of existing is meeting the goals of its consumers. As Max mentioned, we do not wake up every day and say, how much time can I spend on a specific app? Yet, that is the developers goal, to get you to stay as long as possible, and drive ad revenue. I also enjoyed the short piece by Emma Rathbone detailing exactly what life was like prior to the internet. At 35 years old I feel like I was the last generation to truly experience that in childhood, and it was quite accurate.
It is no doubt social media has a profound affect on my daily life. The most positive social media app I use would be LinkdIn. I find it helpful as my network of peers often post helpful industry technology, articles, and various local business news. This tool continually provides me relevant information for my work. The social media apps that have the most negative affect on my life are Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and Reddit. I don't tend to post often, but rather use them to check out for a period of time. I feel at times it is a crutch for when I have anxiety about an issue. Its easier to hop on an app ,and devour 'digital marshmallows' than deal with problem at hand.
Having access to the internet is an absolute lifesaver for me. For the areas it hurts as mentioned above, it makes my job a lot easier. Being able to text, get maps, have whatever music I want, answer emails on demand, and access customer records is essential when driving up to 50,000 miles per year. I can't imagine performing my job without a smart phone. Having that on demand access, also means people expect answers now. This can get stressful.
Many times on the weekend when I play golf I leave my phone in the bag throughout the round. Roughly 4-5 hours. I always leave with a sense of relaxation from being able to unplug for a few hours and do something I enjoy. And majority of the time, I didn't miss anything important.
Going forward I'd like to implement two strategies to limit my social media time. Study with it out of the room, and eliminate using it from when I get home from work until 9 pm.
Thanks for reading!

Absolute lifesaver of a post. I've successfully got my new PC up and running without having to get a Microsoft account, and with all the other bullshit turned off. Thank you so much, kind technology understanders.
I got a laptop with Windows 11 for an IT course so I can get certified, and doing the first time device set-up for it made me want to commit unspeakable violence
Windows 11 should not exist, no one should use it for any reason, it puts ads in the file explorer and has made it so file searches are also web searches and this cannot be turned off except through registry editing. Whoever is responsible for those decisions should be killed, full stop.
Switch to linux, it's free and it's good.

My Journey to Gurugram for the First Time 🌆
Visiting a new city for the first time is always an adventure, and my trip to Gurugram was no different. Nestled next to Delhi, Gurugram is known for its towering skyscrapers, bustling corporate hubs, and vibrant lifestyle. Here’s a glimpse of my experience traveling to this dynamic city for the very first time.
The Excitement of Planning
When the plan to visit Gurugram came up, I was thrilled. I had heard so much about the city—the modern infrastructure, endless malls, and its reputation as the "Millennium City" of India. Packing my bags, I wondered what stories the city would unfold for me.
The Journey Begins 🚆
I took a cab ride from Delhi to Gurugram. The transition from Delhi’s historic charm to Gurugram’s futuristic vibe was striking. As we approached the city, I was greeted by sleek highways, shiny office buildings, and a skyline dotted with glassy skyscrapers. It felt like stepping into a completely different world.
First Impressions
As I entered the city, one thing stood out: the pace of life . Gurugram buzzed with energy. People were on the move, cars zoomed past on wide roads, and the metro trains zipped above, connecting the city's bustling corners.
Despite being a little overwhelmed, I couldn’t help but marvel at the blend of technology and nature. Parks and greenery peeked through the urban chaos, creating a unique balance.
Exploring the City
- Cyber Hub : My first stop was Cyber Hub, a buzzing destination filled with cafes, restaurants, and live events. The vibe was electric! I tried a meal at a cozy restaurant, watching young professionals unwind after work.
- Ambience Mall : Shopping in Gurugram is an experience in itself. Ambience Mall was massive, with everything from international brands to quirky local stores. I couldn’t resist picking up a few souvenirs.
- Leisure Valley Park : For a quieter moment, I visited this park. It was refreshing to see families and joggers enjoying themselves in the middle of such a fast-paced city.
A Few Surprises Along the Way
- Traffic Jams : Gurugram is known for its traffic, and I got my fair share of it! But the city’s efficient metro system was a lifesaver.
- Weather : The city was hot during the day but pleasantly cool in the evening, which made walking around more enjoyable.
What I Learned
Gurugram taught me a lot about modern India. It’s a city that has grown rapidly, adapting to globalization while still holding on to its local charm. People here are ambitious, hardworking, and welcoming.
Final Thoughts
My first journey to Gurugram was nothing short of amazing. It’s a city of contrasts—high-tech yet rooted, chaotic yet organized. As I headed back home, I carried with me not just memories of a new city but also a newfound appreciation for how beautifully India’s cities are evolving.
Would I go back to Gurugram? Absolutely! But next time, I’ll plan better to avoid those traffic jams. 😉

Saving Sam
Hello, fellow educators and curious minds! Today, I want to share a fun and engaging STEM activity that my 5th graders absolutely loved: "Saving Sam!" In this activity, students work together to design a rescue mission for our gummy worm friend, Sam, who has found himself in a sticky situation. Using simple materials—gummy worms, paper clips, and Lifesavers—students are challenged to develop creative solutions while applying their understanding of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.
The Challenge:
Sam the gummy worm is stranded on a piece of “floating ice” (a Lifesaver) in a sea of "dangerous waters" (the table). Students must create a rescue device using paper clips to safely transport Sam to safety without directly touching him. This activity encourages teamwork, critical thinking, and problem-solving.
Materials Needed:
Gummy worms (Sam)
Lifesavers (floating ice)
Paper clips (rescue tools)
Stopwatch (to time their efforts)
A measuring tape or ruler (to measure the distance)
Steps to Execute the Activity:
Introduction: Start by introducing the challenge to the class. Explain the scenario with Sam and the dangers of the "water."
Group Formation: Divide students into small groups, encouraging collaboration. Each group will work together to brainstorm ideas for their rescue device.
Design and Build: Give the students time to design and build their rescue devices using the materials provided. They can use the paper clips to create various mechanisms, whether it's a simple scoop, a net, or something entirely unique!
Testing Phase: Once the devices are built, have each group test their designs. Use the stopwatch to time how long it takes to rescue Sam, and measure the distance between Sam and the “shore.”
Reflection: After all groups have tested their devices, hold a discussion. Ask questions like:
What worked well in your design?
What challenges did you encounter?
How did your group collaborate during the process?
Learning Outcomes:
This activity not only engages students in STEM concepts but also fosters essential skills such as teamwork, communication, and creative thinking. By applying their knowledge in a hands-on way, students get to explore scientific principles and engineering design processes while having a blast.
Conclusion:
"Saving Sam" is an excellent way to bring excitement into the classroom while teaching valuable lessons about collaboration and problem-solving. If you’re looking for a fun, interactive way to incorporate STEM into your curriculum, I highly recommend giving this activity a try. Plus, it’s hard to resist a project that involves gummy worms!
Let me know if you try this activity in your classroom or if you have any other fun STEM ideas to share. Happy teaching!

WARNING: IT LOOKS LIKE ELEVENLABS ARE TRYING TO SCAM THEIR FREE USERS
LEGAL BIT: Obviously, I can't make the claim that a large company like Elevenlabs are running an actual, legally-definable con without some clarification. I SUSPECT they're up to some shady shit, but you should read the assertions in the main article as forceful supposition not fact. I do not know them to be fact for certain and cannot claim otherwise. That said, you're not stupid and you can draw your own conclusions. Right, that's my arse covered. Now for the main article.
A lot of small creators nowadays use text-to-voice software to create narration for videos and other projects. I know, because I’m one of them. If you’re not well-off and live in a noisy or hectic environment, these newfangled text-to-voice thingies are an absolute lifesaver. Audio equipment broke down and you can’t afford to replace it? Text-to-voice is the best alternative you’re going to find at short notice. Trying to create content on a noisy council estate, in a busy local cafe or in your car between running errands? Text-to-voice means you don’t have to worry about background sounds. Just too tired to get your words out without turning them into verbal salad? Text-to-motherfucking-voice will see you reet, dawg. And, if you’re looking for TtV software to start a project, you’ll probably come across, and be very tempted by, Elevenlabs. They look great. They use cutting-edge AI to infer emotional tone, so when they read out the script you wrote, it sounds like an actual human is doing it. They have a solid selection of voices to choose from. And best of all, they offer a free plan with 10,000 characters per month, which isn’t a lot but is a real gift for creators who can’t afford to paid subscriptions. Sounds cushty, right? WRONG. Don’t make my mistakes. Don’t have anything to do with these fucking scamlords.
See, the problem is that creators on the ‘free’ subscription tier keep getting locked out of voice generation with a message that tells them ‘unusual activity has been detected’ and ‘the only way to regain access to voice generation is to upgrade to a paid subscription’. Now, Elevenlabs claim they’re trying to block people from using multiple accounts and that this is a necessary security measure. It isn’t. It can happen to anyone at any time, including first-time users who have never been near the site before, people who did have another free account but haven’t used it months because they lost the password (yo) and people who are just trying to create an account on the same computer as their friends or family. It doesn’t often trigger when a new account is created either, but often waits and springs the message and lockout on users who have been logging in and using the site a few times a day for awhile, essentially ambushing people mid-project. I know, because it’s exactly what happened to me. It basically means that, if you’re partway through a project that needs multiple narration files, you can either pay up or be forced to start over. And no, you can’t just create a new account, because the invasive bastards trace your IP address.
Let me spell it out for you: ELEVENLABS IS HOLDING THEIR FREE USERS PROJECTS TO RANSOM. IF YOU DON’T PAY THEM, YOUR WORK GETS LEFT UNFINISHED. THIS IS A SCAM. THEY ARE DELIBERATELY CREATING A SITUATION WHERE PEOPLE ON THE FREE SUBSCRIPTION TIER WILL BE FORCED TO PAY TO FINISH WORK THEY’VE STARTED.
At first, I thought it was just me being luckless with technology, but a quick google revealed dozens of similar stories littering Reddit and teh messageboards.
Now, it’s one thing for a software-as-a-service company not to offer a free tier. That’s their prerogative and, if you know you can’t afford a paid subscription, you just don’t sign up with those companies. It’s a completely different thing for a company to lure in users with a free subscription tier, then lock them out of their own work in the hope of extorting funds from them.
If you’re a creator and you’re thinking of signing up with Elevenlabs: don’t. They will rip you off.
If you’re a creator and you already have a free account with Elevenlabs: finish what you’re working on and then delete it. Or you will get ripped off.
If you’re a creator and you have a paid account with Elevenlabs: finish what you’re working on and then delete it. If they’re fucking over the free users now, it’s only a matter of time before they start fucking over their paying customers. That’s how companies work: if they think they can get away with something and it’ll yield a quick buck, they’ll fucking do it. Don’t be standing near them when the shit hits the fan.
If you’re not a creator, or you just don’t use TtV software, spread the word anyway. Because if you can’t benefit from a heads up, maybe your friends or their friends can. And also because fuck Elevenlabs for getting greedy and trying to scam their own users.
EDIT: I've somehow gotten back onto the site without any login credentials due to what appears to be a glitch. It looks like their knobby little "fuck you pay us" message actually triggered some sort of system error that allowed me to sneak back on unsuspected. Gotta hand it to corpo types. When they shoot themselves in the foot, they use a giant fuck-off space laser.

Nik Miles_Speed Warnings_FEATURE from Test Miles on Vimeo.
Imagine driving down the highway, your favorite tune blasting, when suddenly a chime reminds you you're over the speed limit. Annoying? Maybe. Necessary? Absolutely. And guess what? Most Americans are on board with it.
In a world where speeding contributes to over a quarter of U.S. traffic fatalities – over 12,000 deaths in 2022 alone – the push for Intelligent Speed Assistance (ISA) systems is gaining traction. According to a survey by the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety, more than 60% of drivers are open to their vehicles giving an audible and visual warning when they exceed the posted speed limit.
The European Union is already ahead of the curve, mandating that all new vehicles come equipped with ISA systems by next month. These systems will alert drivers with audible or visual warnings when they hit the speed limit. Meanwhile, California is considering legislation that could make such systems mandatory by 2032, with new cars required to beep and display a warning if the driver exceeds the speed limit by at least 10 mph.
But what exactly are these ISA systems, and how do they work? Unlike traditional speed limiters, which set a maximum speed, ISAs use GPS, speed limit databases, and sometimes cameras to adapt to the actual speed limit dynamically. This means no more guessing if you're still in a 45 mph zone after missing the last sign.
The survey revealed that more than 80% of drivers want a feature that displays the current speed limit, while 70% prefer a gentle tone to sound when the speed limit changes. Interestingly, about half of the drivers are even open to more intrusive measures – like the accelerator pedal becoming harder to press or the vehicle automatically restricting speed.
There's a pragmatic twist to this. Insurance companies could offer lower premiums for drivers who don’t speed, with around 70% of drivers indicating they’d want ISA in their next car under these conditions. It’s a classic case of "carrot and stick" – the stick being the chime, the carrot being a discount on insurance.
However, not everyone is thrilled about this technological nanny. Frequent speeders are 20% less likely to accept ISA than occasional or rare speeders. Moreover, half of the drivers in the accelerator-feedback and speed-limiter groups admitted they’d frequently override the feature.
One might wonder about the practicality of these systems. What happens when a car’s internet connection is lost? Past research shows drivers worry about irritating other motorists if they drive too slowly, which could be another sticking point. To address these concerns, experts suggest using camera-based traffic-sign-recognition systems that don’t rely on data connections. Additionally, they recommend allowing the system to be disabled but have it enabled by default with every ignition cycle.
The potential for ISA systems to curb speeding is significant, but it won't happen overnight. With the average car on U.S. roads being 14 years old, it will take time for newer, ISA-equipped vehicles to replace the older models. Nonetheless, the direction is clear: safer roads with fewer speed-related fatalities.
In conclusion, the chime of the future is more than just a noise. It’s a lifesaving tool, and as it turns out, most Americans are ready to listen. Whether you're a speed demon or a cautious cruiser, the roads ahead are set to be a bit safer, and maybe a tad quieter, thanks to the inevitable rise of ISA systems. So, next time you hear that chime, remember, it’s not just your car nagging you – it’s a reminder that safety comes first.
