So, we know that Abed is the one who invited Annie, Shirley, Pierce, and Troy to join the study group. Annie and Shirley make a lot of sense; they're both relatively friendly and clearly intelligent, it's easy to imagine either of them having brief positive interactions with Abed that would lead him to thinking of them. Pierce, while not someone I think Abed would seek out, is 100% down for inserting himself into situations. I bet he overheard Abed talking to Shirley or someone and invited himself from there. Troy, though? Troy is a little more complicated. I know that Troy and Abed are the iconic duo of all time, but it took time for that to develop. I have trouble believing that they just somehow had a good chat or something before the pilot, because in the episode Troy refers to Abed as "slumdog millionaire," which makes Shirley call him racist. I know that Troy was leaning hard into his asshole jock behavior during the beginning of season one, but I truly do not think he would say something like that if he had actually interacted with Abed. We know that Troy thinks incredibly highly of Abed once he gets to know him, and that his adoration is what pulls Troy out of his shitty high school persona. Even if he wasn't immediately able to acknowledge that he aspired to be more like Abed, he wouldn't be casually dismissing him like that if they'd ever really interacted. So, this leads me to the only possible conclusion: Abed just had a stupid crush on Troy from day one and wanted an excuse to spend more time with him outside of class. Abed might pride himself on his objective observational powers, but even he isn't perfectly logical. He'd probably tell himself that it's because a jock archetype would round out the ensemble cast dynamic, but in reality Abed is not in fact immune to Pretty Boy.

We don't talk enough about how within the space of like a year Troy went from telling Abed that for guys like him chances to date only came along once in a li...while, to just straight up being confused and horrified by the idea that someone wouldn't want to date Abed. And like the only way that makes any sense is if he was only pretending not to understand what's attractive about him to begin with.

I hate when people are in denial that christmas is christian. I always feel like I have to be sensitive around atheist/agnostic people who celebrate "cultural christmas." like babes it's still about the birth of jesus, and the reason it's celebrated is because jesus is some people's god. like I'm sorry. I'm not saying you're christian if you celebrate christmas (obviously lol, there's a lot more to being christian than that, like at a bare minimum identifying as christian) but it's a christian holiday about the christian god.

I know it’s not at all plot relevant and I definitely don’t think it’s necessary to elaborate further on Walter’s backstory to explain why he is Like That but I still really want to know what the deal with his mom was? They set it up- she’s still alive, they’re seemingly estranged, or at least, he doesn’t tell her about his diagnosis and we don’t see him speaking with her once over the course of the series even after Skyler accidentally reveals it to her, her husband died of Huntington’s, she doesn’t get along with her daughter-in-law- she is mentioned very sparingly even though it feels like the writers definitely had a story in mind for her. As much as I hate Walter, I like to think he didn’t want to tell her out of some measure of love for her, because of how his dad died and how much she worried about his health as a kid, rather than it just being another facet of their estrangement. I think it would be boring and kind of a cop-out to have her be abusive and have that serve as an explanation for her son's dickhead behavior (understatement), but I guess in the context of how he treats his family and Jesse it's very maybe-the-poison-drips-through. Maybe she could be stifling out of fear for his health, maybe he felt like he had to constantly reassure her, and that's why Walt is so resentful of his family's attempts to care for him after his diagnosis and of his familial attachments in general. Not trying to be the blame the mom person, I just want to know why they were estranged and how it ties back into Walter’s motivations and apocalyptic midlife crisis. Also could be a maybe-the-poison-drips-through but he dialed it up to an eleven bc he’s Walter situation, like she wasn’t outright abusive like he is but she could be protective to the point of being controlling like Walt is with Jesse.
