I finished Empire of the Damned yesterday (holy shit) (pun intended I guess). Some thoughts and considerations

SPOILER AHEAD!!

I love Gabriel so much, he was almost killed many times and still came back bitchier than ever. He lives out of everyone else spite. At this point he has like three friends and everyone else is his enemy

Anyway Gabriel should be fucked. He deserves to be the bottom and have his problems get fucked out of him.

(He should be the Straight White Dude TM but between Lachlan and Jean-François... The man is hungry for men, trust me)

I am not sure if I hate Celene or not. I know that the parts where she narrated were good as plot but not my cup of tea (sorry but Gabriel is way funnier than her and Jean will agree with me) (the only moment I liked from her chapters was that bit of Nikita and Aaron)

Talking about Aaron (and Baptise)... Everyone is devastated but I am not. Baptise is alive. Aaron is a vampire, dead but not enough, AND he's not under Nikita's influence anymore. Love wins, they can go back living together as a (almost) happy family

(The bit of Baptise seeing Gabriel and hugging him after being freed from Lilidh blood magic made me cry)

Dior deserves better and I am curious to know if she came back alright or wrong (broken)

Gabriel going from almost dying by Nikita's hand to kill one of the Terrors with bare hands was badass as fuck

Every interaction between Gabriel and Fabien Voss is exilarating to me. Gabriel loathes him from the bottom of his heart and Fabien just "old friend"s him WHAT DOES IT EVEN MEAN he is terrifying but also fucking funny

(If he wasn't so terrified of dying I am sure than Fabien would actually save Gabriel from death just to be able to fight him in person later. Would be a weird twist but idc)

Anyway Gabriel goes on his knees in front of women in 0 seconds, it is a shame that I didn't see him kneeling in front of a vampire as an act of submission. It would be delicious

Beside fantasies, I am curious about the third one. My theory at this point is that the only way to end the Sine Die is to kill the five anciens. The ancient Dyvok is already dead. Fabien gets killed by Gabriel at some point. Margot (that's her name I hope) will be killed soon, I am sure of it: I don't know if Celene and Gabriel got captured accidentally or not, but if Joaquin is there, there is a plan and it's probably to kill her. There are two missing ancients: the one freed by Celene and another I don't remember. They all must die I guess

I have zero capacities with prophecies but I also thought of Celene with all of their souls that gets killed in the end by Dior or someone else. If it wasn't for the fact that out of three dead anciens, two are killed by Gabriel and one by Lachlan and Baptise

I just know that Nikita is fuming in hell btw. Being immortal and getting killed not by immortals like him but your half bother and a complete human fueled by love and rage must be embarassing

Is Dior actually alive during the narration? Probably. Maybe broken, as they said. But Jean doesn't know yet that Dior opened her eyes in her coffin so who knows. If Gabriel is not aware of it, Celene will die very soon

Dior calling Gabriel "Dad" was unnecessary imo, Kristoff did that just to show Gabriel losing two daughters. Dior never called him like that, why would she after almost dying? And like, he already considered her a daughter and he didn't react to "dad" so what was the point 😭

(I loved the way Gabriel promised her to reach her anywhere and did exactly that tho)

I add that the fact that the Dyvoks thought Gabriel dead and then he came back with TWO armies is so funny 😭 he doesn't die, he is more immortal than them

Kiara deserved better. Nikita, you are a bitch. Lilidh deserved worse instead. DIE BITCH.

Phoebe also deserved better. She almost died. Her broom disappeared and died when she found out he was still alive. I like her a lot and I am happy she managed to survive that hell

A moment of appreciations for the first two chapters. Jean really liked to be choked by Gabriel :') and in the meanwhile Gabriel got tortured. Beautiful.

So yeah, I am very curious about the third book. I hope to see Gabriel and Jean kissing (Jean will probably die in the third book, I have this feeling) but it's not really what I want to see.

I also add that Gabriel should receive a pass to say blasphemous things about his god the Italian way. He deserves to say his god is a pig or a dog or shit or what he wants. After all of that he can starts using blasphemous idioms. His god deserves it.

francesca would bet all her money, which is not a lot, but that's how certain she is that derek has something against her and will completely do the opposite of anything she says.

he smirked in mischief as garcia gasped loudly, her eyes widening in offense.

"including pets? what do you have against my furry friends?"

"contrary to popular belief, the opposite of like is not 'not like' but hate. therefore, not liking a thing is neutral, similar to not hating a thing. i'm not against them. i simply do not wish to interact with them."

"actually, it's not—" she nudged the resident genius, gesturing with her eyes and a tight smile, hoping he'll get the hint as she placed her arm on his shoulder and turned to penelope again.

"they're fluffy and cute!"

"and i agree!" franz compensated with a high pitch, "it's not about that—"

her words were lost on the tech analyst as she opened her phone after the notification, "oh, this is so not fluffy and cute."

she walked off to the conference room, the rest of the team already knowing what it means. hotch, dave, and emily are already sat around the table.

"you, my dear crime-fighters, won a ticket to illinois." penelope clicked the remote, presenting identification photos and crime scene pictures, "sadly, at the cost of these three lovely ladies: kathryn cooper, lilian boyle, and mandy clark. all found naked and dead by hanging."

derek looked at the screen, "it's obviously not suicide if we're called in."

"it says here they're 155, 163, and 158 tall. they could not possibly reach the fixed rope with the height of the chair used." jj noted as she scanned the details displayed.

"a mistake?" rossi wondered aloud.

"either that or a taunt. the unsub's confident and displays textbook narcissism, leaving handprints on the victims' waists. what did the forensics say?" reid began the profile as garcia shook her head followed by a gesture to their gadgets.

"no match. there's also a text in each scene. look at their frames, beautiful. i've sent all the details in your tablets."

hotch nodded before pushing away from the table, "good. wheels up in thirty."

while the rest of the team started to gather and brainstorm, franz wanted nothing but to smack the person in front of her, walking backwards as she gets back from the galley of the jet.

"kid, i'm only saying it wouldn't hurt to bond with dogs from time to time. let's start with those from fbi. they're trained enough, so it wouldn't be so bad."

she looked at him innocently and spoke with dry humor, "i talk to you everyday, don't i?"

"i—"

"let's go over the case."

hotch called out as derek narrowed his eyes at her, mouthing something in the lines of i will get back at you. they settled on the couch as the rest read over the case.

"the interval of the deaths are two days. what is he doing with them?" emily voiced out, knowing a lot can happen in two days, especially in these cases.

sainz brushed her nose before speaking in her light tone, "i doubt it's sexual. the handprints appear more like sensual. if it was the former, there are more suggestive places to put it."

rossi nodded, putting out another detail, "cause of death are all asphyxiations. the neck ligatures are also deep and rough."

for the minutes to follow, the team discussed the case deeply, going over possible scenarios and theories based on the details given and the facts. they threw information to each other, forming an initial profile as a framework from here on out.

"okay, dave and reid, go to the morgue and check the two bodies."

hotch began designating the tasks to do as soon as they land. hearing this, franz clutched her hands together with her head down, muttering to herself. they all knew what it was about. she has done it a couple of times before—wishing and chanting to be paired up with her unit chief slash the man of her dreams, according to her.

he continued monotonely, closing the file, "jj, speak with the families and note any possible elements at play. morgan and prentiss, be at the crime scene. i'll be setting up at the station."

she held her breath at that, waiting for his confirmation, "sainz, with me."

the trainee pumped her right fist lowly at that with a wide grin, exclaiming a celebratory 'yes' as hotch gave a small smile at her excitement. rossi looked at her with raised brows in amusement and a tinge of humor.

"who were you praying to? you're an atheist."

she turned to the older man, "i was chanting and i'm an agnostic."

"same thing." he shrugged dismissively, unknowingly cueing for reid to inform him of the facts.

"actually, atheists refer to people who do not believe in the existence of god in certainty and confidence, while agnostics neither believe nor disbelieve. they assert the impossibility of knowing either for sure."

the italian only stared at him for a couple of seconds, debating whether to push it or just let it go.

jj turned to the youngest with curiosity, "really? i thought you would be religious, especially given the surname."

"your arrogance is showing, kid." morgan patted her back mockingly as she nod to jj.

"not at all. i think i'm lucky to have the luxury to ponder whether he exists or not." her voice lacked it's usual teasing tone, seemingly replaced by a genuine one, "most people have no choice but to believe."

after setting up in the room given to them and pasting all necessary information on the glass board, an hour has passed and the two are now discussing geographic profile.

franz sat on the long table, legs crossed as she leaned forward in thinking of the details in front of them. hotch, with crossed arms and brows, stood in front as he analyzes what could the pinned locations in their map mean.

"three crime scenes forming a triangle... this may suggest convenience, meaning the unsub is from the area."

she leaned back, eyes still on the glass board with doubt, "but that's too obvious. he's smart and confident. that was clear by the handprint, note, and hanging."

he turned to face her, going over the details again like it would trigger them to find something that would help the case.

"the victims work in different fields. their lives never met at any point. but, the unsub clearly didn't pick them in random, judging from the gender and height."

he pocketed his hands, listening to her intently as she looked at him as well, "there's a conflict with the confidence profile. if the unsub's really that confident, like taunting us, why would he only pick easy targets?"

hotch maintained his sight to her, seemingly lost in his thoughts as he racks his brain for what could be the reason of the unsub's paradoxical behavior.

"sir, do not stare blankly at me with your hands in your pockets when you're thinking. i cannot concentrate." she finished with a grin, his eyes refocusing on hers after a few seconds.

"do not grin. we're working a case."

he advised indifferently. she kept her grin to tease his uptightness. however, upon the narrowing of his eyes with clear irk, sainz dropper her grin in an instant, turning back to the glass board with a light cough as if in all seriousness.

the black-suited agent turned to the board as well in realization, "he is confident. they're just his type."

she follows his train of thought, "he's not taunting us. he's showing off to someone else. look at their frames, beautiful. it's not an adjective in that."

her phone sounded, a message from emily as to the last sightings of the victims. reading the content, she unfolded her legs and stood up from the long table to pin the given locations.

"emily said they're last seen at these areas."

"two triangles." he muttered in observation.

dave and reid enter from their trip to the morgue. at the sight of the younger man, she calls for him, hoping the pattern in the map would make sense to him.

"genius, looks familiar?

he nears the two in front of the board, squinting his eyes, "it may be the measurements."

spencer kept his eyes on the map, his mind already calculating to see if he was right. not far away, two voices can be heard nearing the room. prentiss entered first followed by an explaining morgan. she gave the trainee a gesture to him with her head and a smirk.

"all i'm saying is the kid is short. she should not be in the field because the unsub might take interest."

"why—" she paused, looking at him in playful indignation, "what's wrong with you? i'm working professionally here and you talk behind my back."

"hey, i'm just looking out for you," derek raised his arms in surrender before pointing at her with a chuckle, "and you are short."

franz's mouth went agape in exaggeration as she turned to hotch, telling on the man and looking for an ally.

"sir? this is bullying."

"you are." the unit chief pointed out with a hint of humor.

she feigned offense once again before sighing heavily, "the betrayal... you're so lucky i like you." hotch mustered a small smile at that.

"and you," sainz turned back to the enemy, "you don't see me picking on your brains, do you? brawns."

derek scoffed pridefully with a smirk, "there's nothing to pick on me."

"exactly."

she did not miss a beat in replying, confusion on his face before the understanding hit, "wait—"

"the distance from one point to another is equal," reid stated, putting a stop to the banters, "perfectly."

just as they were all trying to review the new additional detail, the local chief's voice rang inside the room.

"there's another one missing."

the team went over the details they all gathered from their respective tasks, discussing the patterns again and putting up the profile as hotch went to speak with the family of the missing woman.

after a few minutes, he returned with a finding, nearing the map on the glass board.

"the family said that jana was at this stop when they last called her. she was on her way home yesterday morning after her night shift. same details so far with the other victims."

dave walked to the map, circling the area above the triangle, "the unsub's meticulous with his details and pattern. it's probable that if we do not find her in 15 hours, she'll turn up around here."

"i got something." francesca sat up from her chair, eyes on the note of the unsub in each crime scene, "he's not talking about the figures of his victims. he's talking about literal frames."

"picture frames?" reid asked, trying to see how it all connects.

she spoke with determination, "that's what i'd like to find out."

hotch crossed his arms in thinking of her theory. he nodded, opening the tablet for the case file again, "okay, go with morgan and jj."

they got up from their seats, the two aiming for their coats against the cold season considering it's nearing six in the evening as well.

"where's your coat, franz?" jj asked as they're halfway through the door, noticing the trainee does not have one with her.

she shook her head, trying to act cool mockingly with a pathetic attempt of a deep voice, "i don't wear one. i like the cold."

morgan rolled his eyes, calling for the man who's leaning forward on the long table with eyes down on the case file, "hotch, tell her to wear one."

sainz grinned widely at that, intentionally making her tone dreamily, "no need. his presence is enough to keep me warm."

"take my coat."

hotch calmly said, almost with indifference as he continued to swipe and pinch the gadget's screen, reading the file. they all looked at him at once in silence.

he's a caring person inside—that's not a surprise. the whole team knows that already. however, offering his coat to her is completely different from offering them to others in the team.

everyone knew she would take it differently. how smart of them! because she really did without shame.

"with your scent? i think i'm going to die before we even close this case."

francesca grinned with affection at him. the him in question is still not looking up from his readings, even as the three finally left for the home of one of the victims.

how ironic to feel so warm by someone so cold.

Finally showing Abigail's family members! They are pretty important for lore reasons so I'll talk about them now.

Alysa meshol(formerly known as alysa howard) is a high society lady who maintained the family clothing business and who managed to maintain a large fortune for this (clothing in the victorian era was no small feat) however this was at the cost of his social life by isolating himself from potential distractions and his cold and strict attitude made it difficult to get him to interact with anyone other than his family or family servants.

However, shortly before getting engaged she had an affair with one of the house servants, Abraham was a family servant for years and one of the few friends Alysa had, however at some point their relationship became physical and ended with she pregnant with Abigail.

Despite her pregnancy, her husband did not want to break the engagement, so when Abigail was born her mother was married to her stepfather Gael Meshol, who had an insurance agency.

However, Abigail's existence was hidden from the press for many years, being locked up at home while her mother had children with her stepfather.

Abigail grew up trying to earn her mother's approval, but she gave up when she realized that her mother would never consider her anything other than a stain on her family.

Abigail's stepfather was delighted with her intelligence, so he decided to give her the same education as her younger brothers and she quickly became his pride as she possessed a lot of intellectual and political potential.

Abigail grew up close to her biological father and her half-brother Austin. Austin grew up kind and somewhat idealistic but had the talent to follow in his sister's footsteps despite being born sickly and weak.

Abigail did not know that Abraham was her father until her adolescence and then she stopped communicating with her mother but maintained contact with him.

It was from Abraham that Abigail got the inspiration to fight for workers' rights and he always supported his daughter since he thought that she deserved to have more opportunities than he had and he was always a very loving father.

His brother Aaron grew up having a very violent rivalry with Aby, whom he considered inferior to him due to racist and sexist thoughts(typical man of the 20th century), and it did not help that his father constantly compared them, causing Aaron to come to regard Abigail an intense hatred that later ended in homicide.

Aaron went to Abigail's house to demand money, by that time his father had disinherited him until he achieved something big and didn't gamble with his agency's money, when Abigail refused to give him money Aaron strangled her to death, Instead of taking responsibility, he stole her research and burned her house with an oil lamp (those things were very dangerous at the time).

Fortunately, years later Austin uncovered the truth about Aaron and he died in prison after hanging himself in his cell after spending about 4 years receiving the same horrible treatment as all prisoners.

Austin managed to live to be over 70 years old and managed to make a great name for himself among biologists, and managed to win the legal battle so that Abigail's research could once again be her as it should be, he married a woman named Layla and had triplets(abigail second, amelie and amanda).

Ironically, Austin is the one who lived the longest even though he was sickly and weak, his parents did not exceed 60 and Aaron did not reach 50😅

Sin embargo poco antes de comprometerse ella tuvo una aventura con uno de los sirvientes de la casa, abraham fue sirviente de la familia por años y uno de los pocos amigos que tenía alysa, sin embargo en algún momento su relación se hizo física y terminó con ella embarazada de Abigail.

Pese a su embarazo su esposo no quiso romper el compromiso, por lo que cuando Abigail nació su madre estaba casada con su padrastro gael meshol, quien tenia una agencia de seguros.

Sin embargo la existencia de Abigail fue ocultada durante muchos años de la prensa, siendo encerrada en casa mientras su madre tuvo hijos con su padrastro.

Abigail creció tratando de ganarse la aprobación de su madre, pero ella se rindió al ver que su madre jamás la consideraria otra cosa que no fuera una mancha en su familia.

El padrastro de Abigail quedó encantado con su inteligencia, por lo que decidió darle la misma educación que sus hermanos menores y rápidamente se volvió su orgullo al poseer mucho potencial intelectual y político.

Abigail creció siendo cercana a su padre biológico y a su medio hermano Austin, Austin creció siendo amable y algo idealista pero que tuvo el talento de seguir los pasos de su hermana pese a haber nacido como alguien enfermizo y débil.

Abigail no supo que abraham era su padre hasta su adolescencia y ahí dejó de comunicarse con su madre pero mantuvo el contacto con el.

Fue de abraham de quien abigail sacó la inspiración para luchar por los derechos obreros y este siempre apoyo a su hija ya que pensaba que ella merecía tener más oportunidades de las que el tuvo y siempre fue un padre muy amoroso.

Su hermano aaron creció teniendo una rivalidad muy violenta con aby, a quien consideraba inferior a él por pensamientos racistas y sexistas(típico hombre del siglo 20), y no ayudaba el hecho de que su padre los comparara constantemente haciendo que aaron llegase a tenerle a abigail un odio intenso que más tarde termino en homicidio.

Aaron fue a la casa de abigail para exigirle dinero, para ese momento su padre lo había desheredado hasta que logrará algo grande y no se la pasara apostando con el dinero de su agencia, cuando abigail se negó a darle dinero aaron la estrangulo hasta matarla, en vez de tomar responsabilidad el se robo sus investigaciones y quemo su casa con una lámpara de aceite(esas cosas eran muy peligrosas en la época).

afortunadamente años depsues austin destapó la verdad sobre aaron y este murió en prisión tras colgarse en su celda tras pasar unos 4 años recibiendo el mismo trato horrible que todos los presos.

Austin logró vivir hasta más de sus 70 años y logró hacerse de un gran nombre entre los biólogos, y logró ganar la batalla legal para que las investigaciones de abigail volvieran a ser suyas como correspondía, el se caso con una mujer llamada layla y tuvo trillizas(abigail segunda, amelie y amanda).

Irónicamente Austin es el que más años vivió aún siendo enfermizo y débil, sus padres no pasaron de los 60 y aaron no llegó a los 50😅

Two outlets controlled by right-wing media tycoons are working in tandem to aggressively push specious claims about President Joe Biden's fitness for office to millions of Americans.  On June 4, the Wall Street Journal published a 3,000-word article questioning Biden's mental acuity. The Wall Street Journal is owned by News Corp, the media conglomerate founded by right-wing billionaire Rupert Murdoch. He stepped down as chairman of the company last year, assuming the role of chairman emeritus. At the time of his retirement, Murdoch promised to continue to be "engaged daily with news and ideas" at the company. (News Corp is now chaired by Rupert Murdoch's son, Lachlan.) The Wall Street Journal article, headlined “Behind Closed Doors, Biden Shows Signs of Sipping,” boasts that it is based on "interviews with more than 45 people over several months." But only one person is quoted on the record supporting the thesis of the piece: Former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA). “I used to meet with him when he was vice president. I’d go to his house,” McCarthy told the Wall Street Journal. “He’s not the same person.” 

Relying on McCarthy as the lynchpin of the article is problematic. First, McCarthy is not a neutral observer. He is a partisan Republican interested in inflicting political damage on Biden. Further, what McCarthy told the Wall Street Journal about Biden is directly contradicted by comments that McCarthy said previously — both publicly and privately. In the article, McCarthy criticizes Biden's performance in debt ceiling negotiations in 2023. But in March 2023, while these negotiations were underway, the New York Times reported that "McCarthy has told allies that he has found Mr. Biden to be mentally sharp in meetings." McCarthy made similar comments about Biden in public, praising Biden as "[v]ery professional, very smart" and "[v]ery tough at the same time." In October, when McCarthy was ousted as House Speaker, Politico reported that McCarthy "mocked Biden’s age and mental acuity in public, while privately telling allies that he found the president sharp and substantive in their conversations."

The rest of the piece is based on anonymous Republican criticism of Biden. For example, "according to six people," during a meeting with current House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA), Biden "said a recent policy change by his administration that jeopardizes some big energy projects was just a study." But the new policy, which involved a pause on new liquified natural gas terminals, involved a study of "the impacts of LNG exports on energy costs, America’s energy security, and our environment." 

Other anonymous criticism from Republicans is even flimsier. For example, during a January 2024 meeting on Ukraine, unnamed Republicans criticized Biden for consulting notes, speaking softly, and taking ten minutes before the meeting started to personally greet attendees. Several Democrats provided the Wall Street Journal with on-the-record quotes about their impressions of Biden — including Senator Patty Murray (D-WA), Senator Jack Reed (D-RI), Former Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), Senator Chris Coons (D-DE), and Governor Roy Cooper (D-NC) — but none of them were included in the piece. 

[...] Nevertheless, the Wall Street Journal piece was repackaged by Sinclair Broadcast Group and beamed into the homes of millions of Americans. Sinclair, which is controlled by right-wing media mogul David Smith, owns or operates 185 local television stations across 86 markets.  Sinclair repackaged the Wall Street Journal story through its centralized news team, known as The National Desk. The segment was then pushed to dozens of local news stations owned by Sinclair. Local anchors introduced the piece by reading from a nearly identical script. Again and again, the anchors say that the Wall Street Journal is "out with new reporting calling into question the mental fitness of President Joe Biden," adding that the issue "could be an election decider."

[...] In addition to running Sinclair, Smith has used his vast wealth to support a variety of far-right causes. The Baltimore Banner reports that since 2015, Smith, through his family foundation, has donated large sums to Young Americans for Liberty ($581,000), Project Veritas ($536,000), Turning Point USA ($150,000), and Moms for Liberty ($121,000). Meanwhile, News Corp’s cable news properties, Fox News and Fox Business, also helped launder the Wall Street Journal’s attacks on Biden into the news cycle. According to transcript searches, the WSJ piece’s core claim that Biden is “slipping” was brought up at least 64 times on air on Fox News and Fox Business from when the article was published until yesterday afternoon. Online, the WSJ piece has been the focus of at least 15 articles on Fox News’ website, with many of them treating its dubious claims about Biden’s decline as a demonstrated fact.

Right-wing media chain Sinclair fed The Wall Street Journal’s deceptive hit piece about President Joe Biden’s cognitive abilities to viewers of Sinclair stations’ newscasts.

Character: Tiana

- Rules over the land of Royaume des grenouilles (kingdom of frogs)

- Her character draws inspiration from Grael, the Tinkerer: Jim Pinto and Aaron Hübrich

- Backstory: Tiana, like the players, was from our world. She is from many years into the future from when our players were alive. Humanity was in the brink of destruction, everyone she had loved was gone, and as she thought her world would end, Tiana was suddenly transported to the land of Fantasia. Tiana was well taught in the art of mechanics and machines due to her time on Earth in a war torn state. She used this knowledge to create her own country, one that would be free from the hardships she had to face in life. As Tiana grew older she feared that her dream would die with her so she strove to conquer death, and she succeeded. After becoming immortal she focused her attention on creating the greatest kingdom in Fantasia, while also trying to bring life to sentient beings with mechanics and magic. She eventually was able to create creatures who didn’t need food, rest, or any basic necessities. She even named her kingdom after the first creature she successfully constructed, a frog. Without the fear of death, Tiana began to grow her kingdom technologically more and more. Outshining the other kingdoms with her achievements, but soon the pride in her kingdom turned to paranoia. Never having truly gotten over her trauma from her life before, Tiana began to distrust the other rulers. Tiana decided the only course of action would be to isolate her kingdom from the outside world, none being let in or let out. Inside the walls Tiana has continued to make advancements for centuries, creating a paradise where there are no wars, no hunger, no disease. Yet Tiana is still plagued by the death in her kingdom. Her most recent goal is to get rid of death completely from her land, whether her people want it or not.

- Motivations & Personality: Distrustful, protective, calculating, motherly, while Tiana has put her mission above the wants of her people, she does believe that she is doing this to protect them. She sees her people as almost her children, a family she has created since the death of her last one. She deeply fears death and will avoid it at all costs. Her end goal is to fear her people from the grasp of death like she has herself.

- Other tidbits/ reveals:

Tiana has created an almost cybernetic army of creatures we see from the movie, ie. Louis, the fireflies, frogs, and other swamp creatures.

Tiana herself is actually a kind of cyborg. She wears long clothes, dresses, gloves, anything to hide her cybernetic parts. If a player was ever in battle with her and managed to tear away her clothing they would see that she is mostly robotic, that is how she has beaten death so far. Her cybernetics need heavy levels of magic that not many people can achieve without or need centuries of practice, this is why Tiana is looking for a better way to turn her people immortal, because she constantly has to replenish the magic keeping her alive which is a daunting and painful task, which she doesn’t want her people to experience.

For stats look up Grael, the Tinkerer stats. She heavily inspired some of Tianas characteristics and backstory and is a really cool character in herself!

Pomme's Ephemeral & Surrealist Masterpiece: "Saisons"

Claire Pommet, who goes by Pomme, is a queer French singer and songwriter bringing her ethereal and beautiful sound to her American tour. With a nomination for "Tour of the Year" at Les Victoires de la Musiques (the French GRAMMYs), this is one tour you won't want to miss. 

In addition to  being an award-winning artist, Pomme is also an actress. Known for her intimate and emotional music, Pomme blends her fairy-like daintiness with macabre imagery in her latest film Saisons. I had the pleasure of meeting her in New York while she was show chasing her short films Saisons, le film: hiver and Saisons, le film: printemps, Saisons, le film: automne. 

Pomme has unveiled her fourth album, "Saisons," a modern opera now available in two parts. She revealed the Saisons, le film: hiver and Saisons, le film: printemps, Saisons, le film: automne short films and the full Saisons short film will be released in July. The song “_dec carte de noël” was co-written with Aaron Dessner (The National, Taylor Swift, Justin Vernon etc).  June stands for the first of three summer tracks that Pomme has chosen to call "perseides", the famous shower of shooting stars that floods the summer sky.

Pomme's new album, "Saisons," is a stunning orchestral journey through the year. With 12 tracks, three for each season, it captures the essence of every month. This orchestral project showcases her unique artistic vision and invites listeners on a spring-to-winter journey. The album flows seamlessly, inviting listeners to relax and envision their dream cartoon. This musical experience is paired with a 36-minute film, co-directed by Pomme, Hugo Pillard, and Nina Richard. 

Pomme drew inspiration from American advertisements from the 50s and 60s, focusing on the idealized beauty of women and iconic Coca-Cola ads. Her friends brought additional global references, contributing to the project's experimental nature. The lack of traditional transitions added to the film's unique and unpredictable feel.

Saisons is an ephemeral film, released in intervals on YouTube and screened only twice in New York. Pomme, the artist behind this dreamlike project, revealed that a full tour is unlikely due to the high costs of touring with a twenty-two-person orchestra and a lack of support from her label. Nevertheless, Pomme remains dedicated, pushing her beloved project with passion and determination.

Pomme hosted an intimate screening for an exclusive audience of 25. Following the film, attendees were treated to a Q&A session, offering a deeper dive into her creative process and vision.

Inside the Dreamlike World of the French Singer Pomme 

What is your favorite season?

“In life I think I love the fall, because it's really magical, but in the movie I really love the summer and the second, and it's not out yet

This one is, it was really intense because I was underwater, and I didn't have a big budget for this film, so we did everything pretty much in fucked up ways. I was just like,underwater, and I had nothing to breathe, I was just trying to stay more than three seconds, and we did that for like five hours. 

So yeah, probably the summer part of the film, and also I love the little Sylvanian like the little animals, they're like really cute, they're Japanese [...] and they are so cute and creepy also, and I love having that a lot in the summer part, they're just like chilling, and doing nothing, and it's really creepy, and yeah, I think the summer, but in life, I love the fall too.”

When you wrote the song did you have ideas for the movie?

“I think when I write songs, I always have ideas, and weird images, and everything, and I always like to write stuff down. I also directed a movie with two of my friends and together, the three of us, we added a lot of ideas and some of these ideas were from the beginning of the writing of the songs and then some of them were my friends. 

The fall part is entirely my friend Hugo. I was just like, do the teen horror movie of your dreams. For the summer, I knew that I wanted Sylvanians  and for the winter, I wanted to have that cup monster. 

It's really weird because when I write songs, I have images of really precise stuff. I guess it's also because I've watched a lot of anime movies and movies in general. It was a dream because it allowed me to do all the video clips that I wanted to do in the movie, so I guess I'm not doing any video clips for ten years. 

Now, it's really intense, but yeah, it's a mix of my ideas when I write songs and also some ideas from my friends who co -directed the movie, especially for the full. It's just really experimental, this is just like something that I never thought I would be doing and then I'm really glad I did it. I knew that I wanted images for the whole album from the beginning.”

What is the significance of the mustache?

“The mustache in the summer scene - I think I was a bit crazy writing the summer part of the movie, but I wanted to have a subtle conversation about being a boy or being a girl, being fluid, not knowing what you want to be. Those questions that we all ask ourselves, and I just wanted it to be fun, and straightforward. The symbols are not too heavy, it's a soft way to talk about subjects that are important to me, it's a free space to experiment. 

I never got to do this before. In France when you do a video clip, your label wants it to go on TV. This movie, none of it is going on TV. I just wanted to try something new. I wanted this to be about identity. “

Pomme aimed to spark conversations about gender and self-discovery in a fun and straightforward manner. The symbols are kept light to allow for free experimentation. Unlike typical French music videos destined for TV, this film was a space for Pomme to explore themes of identity without constraints.

How would you describe the genre?

I think the whole album musically doesn't fit any genre musically. It's something else, it’s an opera, it’s french chanson, it’s instrumental, a lot of orchestral parts where I don't sing at all which my label hated. I would love for it to be on TV in France but I don't think it’s possible. But this time I was hoping to do something different and not be in any kind of box.  

Are you going to get the whole orchestra parts on tour?

We’re not touring this album because it’s too expensive, there’s twenty-two people in the orchestra. But we did this concert cinema in Montreuil, which is like a suburb of Paris, in April. It was just once, and I don't think we will do it again. I also like that this project is also kind of ephemeral.

Fat Albert Critical quotations

This trailer of the film is useful because it shows what the movie is about as well as showing what type of humor and audience the film is going for.

In Roger Ebert's review he states "But in a season where the standards have been set for animated entertainment by "The Polar Express" and "The Incredibles," I don't think "Fat Albert" is up to speed; in its meandering, low-key way, it seems destined more for a future on de-ved, returning to the video world where the characters say they feel more at home."

This quotation is interesting because it shows that the critical reception of the film was not completely positive and that there was criticism of the film due to it not living up to the other films that were being released at the time.

Summary:

He shot bolt upright, a strangled cry tearing from his throat. His chest heaved with his gasps, body covered in a sheen of sweat. His mouth dropped open but all he could manage was a choked wheeze. He stared at his hands in the darkness, tracing the outline of his fingers and seeing little more than the tremble wracking them. (...) The blade slashed through the air towards the throat, a feral snarl rippling from his chest as his face twisted with hate and cold fury. And then he froze, the dagger barely an inch from its target. A pair of baby blue eyes watched him, filled with concern, flickering briefly to the blade, betraying only a tinge of bewilderment.

Baptiste wakes up from a truly horrific nightmare and struggles to compose himself. Luckily for him, Aaron is right there with him, ready to comfort him in the blink of an eye.
