thinking abt the one post that's like "scar would rather die than be grians enemy and grian would rather kill scar than be his enemy" and it Devastates Me /pos bc no matter what it's always scar who will die and it's always grian who will be left to grieve.

having not seen double life, my favorite example of this is from the end of third life. "For all you have done to keep me alive this long, you may slay me." now as we know grian doesnt kill him then and there but it's still grian who's the last one standing, grian in a ring of cacti with bruised knuckles, grian who has to kill himself because scar's not there to do it for him.

ssso my good friend pastell @startagainaprologue mentioned it was struggling with making a human design for the guide and i rubbed my hands together evilly and got to work. aaaaa this was super fun to work on!!!!! thankyou again for letting me draw this graaaa. as always my deranged character design ramblings are below the cut 👍

CHARACTER DESIGN BLAST

most of guide’s colors are slightly shifted to be closer to red and more… desaturated? my default bonnie colors clashed with the palette i usually use for guide so they got changed slightly. i did add the blue on the sash as a reference to my nille design however! and i tend to use cooler colors to represent countries outside of vaugarde, so you could interpret it as a link to the island. if you so desire :3

speaking of the sash, just about everything they’re wearing here is based on another character!! in this case, it’s meant to resemble nille’s waist sash! but with a different pattern. something something only having an imitation of what it lost. the stars are meant to represent siffrin and loop, and also just the universe in general. fun stuff!

i mostly just made their shirt longer for the sake of looking Different from normal bonnie? but combined with the sash it has the fun bonus of having a silhouette similar to siffrin’s cloak. not full intentional but hey! i’ll take it!

the gems on its tail are there to represent odile!! as well as referencing the ka buan tradition of compressing ashes into diamonds. you can draw your own conclusions there! and they go ding ding when it walks :3

the hat/halo isss probably self explanatory? it’s a way to fit guide’s Spiky Head into the design. the halo was added pafter pastell drew buns version of the design auau. i like both! so their hat can be whatever shape you please.

okay! nno more talking about clothes i promise. similar to my ghostlight loop design, i gave it spikier hair!! i have to give sponsors spiky hair to resemble their Spiky Heads. it’s the law. their hair was supposed to be shorter but. i’m pretty sure this is the exact same length i usually draw bonnie’s hair. oops? oh well it looks cute. the stars are honestly just there for fun i didn’t have anything specific in mind

in a similar vein, i changed their eye shape to match the eye shape on guide’s ref! perpetually Sad Looking. on the bright side they aren’t constantly crying anymore!

thheir body is. mostly the same? i decided to make their body Red Tinted for the sake of consistency and i removed the separated limbs aaand. that’s basically it? not much to say! i did add the halo bracelet around their wrist as a callback to the separation though. i didn’t do the same for its shoulder because i am Lazy 🩶

aaand i think that’s everything? well it Isn’t but i think everything else is self explanatory and frankly this is long enough as is. here is the """greyscale""" version as compensation 🩶

Also it could have dived into why this daughter doesn’t like her mother so much so much so that she doesn’t call her mommy or momma or any variation but she will ALWAYS call her dad “daddy” no matter what he does to her, harmful or not. THIS COULD HAVD BEEN A GOOD MOM - DAUGHTER BONDING FIC about past trauma and healing BUT NOOOOO😭😭😭

Losing my mind, LOSING MY MIND, at how a favoritism towards a character can be so fucking BAD that it not only makes him look more shitty despite you trying to push the narrative that he’s sweet and caring. But it also opens the box of how toxic he is to others around and the author could dive in the reasons everyone is so scared to acknowledge his wrongdoing why do the women in the protag’s life always blame them selves and never give him the chance to properly apologize to them in a satisfying manner. He could do the most horrendously fuck up things to them in a fit of rage or lust but they will always excuse him. They still hang on his every word despite how capable he is hurting, dude is literally textbook controlling husband and father. Borderline abusive. This is could be a GOOD deep dive into how this fucks with the family and them all escaping + healing BUT NO. No no the normal bullshit traditional everything is normal route is taking and it makes me want to scream and pull my hair out

Gordon rounded the corner slowly, disappointed by the equally dark corridor that spanned ahead of him. Since the cascade most of the lights were shot, gone dark thanks to the disaster in the chamber.

He enjoyed cave-diving in his spare time when he could afford it, but swimming through the halls of Black Mesa was a different experience. They weren’t supposed to be flooded, pitch-black or filled with unnerving ambience. The water was supposed to stay in its respective rooms and outside the facility.

Holding his harpoon close and ready, Gordon used his other hand to flick the HEV suit’s flashlight on. For the last while he’d been relying on the few flickering lights overhead or sparking machinery along the walls, cautious about giving his position away to… Well he didn’t know. Just in case.

After a resonance cascade he had every right to be paranoid.

Debris drifted lazily past the flashlight’s hazy beam as he scanned ahead. Broken machines and scattered office supplies littered the otherwise empty hallway—

At the far end, where the corridor met another, he saw it. 

The body of a scientist lay crushed against the floor by rubble. He imagined the face would be one contorted into dead terror, only he couldn’t make it out. Curled around and across the corpse were strange growths, like the fluffy tentacles of an oversized jellyfish.

Aiming the light up hesitantly, Gordon recoiled in the water and gripped his harpoon tightly in both hands.

Another scientist, body beyond mangled. It was almost comical with the way their tie floated in the water, seemingly untouched by the rest of their horrific mutation. A semi-translucent blob encompassed the space where the head should’ve been. Two small tentacles waved back and forth in the flooded space, while he could barely make out another two embedded into the scientist’s chest.

The arms were long and gangly, ending in absurdly elongated clawed fingers. Webbing had burst from the sides, connecting them together in a means of underwater locomotion. 

Trailing back down to the legs, a conclusion was reached. 

They cut off at the knee, twisting and contorting into the tentacles wrapped around the unfortunate soul below. The creature was still as if content. 

It was feeding.

Half-Life: Shores and Half-Life: Depths are my AU! Essentially the plot of the original two games but taking place on an Earth that almost entirely flooded. Few landmasses remain as small islands. Floating settlements and cities on stilts dot the oceans, housing the last of humanity.

Black Mesa's experiments sought to discover a different, empty world where they could drain the sea to reclaim the continents. Unfortunately things didn't go as planned, opening to the complete opposite. A huge, abyssal void called Xyn.

The entire facility promptly filled with water. Not just that, but alien monstrosities from Xyn as well.

These beasts are called Headclumps thanks to how they clump together in hallways and latch onto the heads of unfortunate victims.

They're a form of deep-sea Cnidaria who live a parasitic lifestyle. Where they come from, Headclumps let off a small glow to lure in unsuspecting predators. Once close enough the parasites will latch onto the heads of large fish, digging their rearmost tentacles into their nervous system.

After releasing a paralyzing toxin the Headclumps will assume control of the host. It will hunt and feed as normal, though the nutrients will be absorbed by the parasite instead.

When the creature dies (usually as a result of the parasite) the Headclump will lay its eggs inside the corpse before unlatching. The young will consume the body for sustenance after hatching, so the cycle begins anew.

They weren't really designed for... Human hosts.
