Although there are Austin's demerits and merits of residing, there are various aspects that are worthy of note. This article will provide a detailed breakdown about the question "how much does it cost to live in Austin, Texas," touching on housing, transport, food, healthcare, and others.
Housing Costs in Austin, Texas
Renting in Austin Housing is most likely the most considerable financial demand for people living in an area. The rental rate in Austin differs widely across different communities, determined by the type of housing structure and the location.
For a one-bedroom apartment, the average price range would be about $1,200 to $1,800 per month. If you want to live in a two-bedroom apartment, it usually costs between $1,500 and $2,400 per month.
Spacious three-bedroom apartments are available for $2,000 to $3,500 monthly for those who need even more space in their homes. These bigger ones are more appropriate for families, roommates, and those who often require more space for their activities and stuff. The top edge of these price categories usually refers to luxury locations, new buildings, and better facilities.
Districts like Downtown Austin and areas surrounding the central business districts and academic institutions usually have the most expensive prices. On the other hand, living in the suburbs is a cheaper option.
Home Buying in Austin People planning to acquire property will likely be in a make-or-break, competitive, and costly game. The 2024 medium price for a house in Austin is estimated at $500000.
The median price for housing listing is $500,000, and the average tax rate per property is nearly 2.23% of the property's assessed value in Austin, TX.

The utilities in Austin consist of electricity, water, gas, and the Internet. The costs can also differ depending on the size of the family unit and individual consumption frequency. On average:
Electricity: $100 to $200 per month
Water: $40 to $70 per month
Gas: $30 to $50 per month
Internet: $50 to $70 per month
With its particularly elevated temperatures, summer requires air conditioning, which significantly increases electric bills. On the other hand, heating costs decrease during the winter.
Entertainment and Recreation
The free-to-premium social side of culture in Austin is diverse and contributes to living expenses. Everyday entertainment expenses include:
Movie ticket: $10 to $15
Concert ticket: $30 to $100
Gym membership fee: $30 to $60 per month
Outdoor activities: Some parks and trails are free, but others may be state parks, which charge a fee of approximately $5 to $10 per visit.
Education Costs
For families with kids, it’s of primary importance that quality education is available. Austin offers a mix of public and private schooling options:
Public school: Free (funded through property taxes)
Private school: $10,000 to $20,000 annually
Enrollment at second-line higher education institutions such as the University of Texas at Austin increases the costs of living for students and their families. It may cost $10,000 per academic year, excluding rent and board.
Miscellaneous Expenses
Among the usual daily expenses, there are some, such as clothing, personal care, and a range of miscellaneous things. On average:
Clothing: $50 to $100 per month
Personal care: $30 to $60 per month
Household items: $40 to $80 per month

FOLLOW-UP REPORT: New Key Visual Poster unveiled for 'Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt' Season 2, possibly sets to air next year in 2025
TOKYO, JAPAN -- Fans of the adult-rated cult primetime classic anime 'Panty and Stocking with Garterbelt' have reason to celebrate as one Japanese animation studio 'Trigger' unveiled new key visual for the highly anticipated Season 2. After a lengthy bankruptcy and multiple unpaid debts from a former 'Gainax' studio, within almost a decade-and-a-half… The angels of 'Daten City Sisters' are all back in action.
Thursday afternoon (July 4th, 2024 -- Pacific local time), at this year's Anime Expo 2024 in an undisclosed panel at Studio Trigger… The main staff, including directors and character designers, introduced themselves and their roles in a recent announcement and discussion video, within a day later on July 5th. They shared insights into the creative process, discussing the challenges they faced while designing the teaser visual, and new logo for this said new season.
We can all agree to describe the contents of the visual art poster photo, which is present in the pink convertible 'Hummer'. Stocking Anarchy was a passenger, while Panty Anarchy sat in front of their car. Taking their pet 'Chuck' for a wedgie at Briefers Rock's pants, because he wasn't meant to have sex with any of the sisters between Anarchy and Daemon, in the foursome harem.
Following this, the Daemon sisters were given the name 'Scanty' and 'Kneesocks', along with their animal companion 'Fastener'. Lastly, the Anarchy sisters are being mentored by the reverend father 'Garterbelt Christ', who reads general books in the back. They are all fully engaged and ready for a ride to hell, albeit sometimes acting as part-time angels in Daten City. This brand-new key visual lets loose the iconic Anarchy duos in the most vibrant and action-packed scene, promising their continued adventures in high-energy this season.
As said above, on last year's Anime Expo 2023 and the staff of 'Studio Trigger' have said that the creation of high-quality animation, and finishing it up can take ages, and even a lot of digital work hours. Before they can show it to the public on national TV, they have in need, to get approval from Japanese TV channels, which are like 'ATX' and 'BS Nitelle'.
Classic character designs will return to please fans of the original series, while some new members will be joining them later in this next phase. Indeed, several top character designers are staffed on the project, so the series should certainly be nothing short of beautiful. This is according to a YouTube video (under Google's alphabet), on a discussion of the new staff. They showed enthusiasm as they noted that they will keep up the good work, and acknowledged having fun with breaking all the rules in traditional animation, which was also characteristic of the original series. They showed excitement about creating a new series that is going to be entertaining and enjoyable, without necessarily changing your own life.
Creators discussed with Otaku, how this new team will bring the anime project to life, reflecting on the legacy of the original anime show. They expressed in the staff discussion video, "The new season with a fresh take replicates in spirit the last one, so we urge the Japanese and other fans worldwide to look forward to it".
Director 'Hiroyuki Imaishi' himself, takes control of the series, guiding the new season into its roots while introducing fresh elements that are bound to entertain both the old and the newer generations. Other creative people involved are the renowned character designer 'SUSHiO' and art designer 'Shigeto Koyama', promising a spectacular visual treat.
To keep up to speed, on what is missing that can't produce Season 2 of the anime primetime show… The first season ends with a cliffhanger in the early mid-2010s. 'Gainax' faces financial difficulties in debts as production plummets and mismanagements, leading to further legal disputes and a decline in production from 2015 to early pandemic days of Coronavirus Disease-19 (CoViD-19).
There is a scandalous turn on December 2019, according to Studio Trigger president named 'Masahiko Otsuka', the management team at 'Gainax' was replaced and later sued, due to a scandal involving its representative director and former co-founder 'Hideaki Anno', because of unpaid royalties related to 'Neon Genesis: Evangelion' in 2014 and later distanced for Studio Khara. Kyodo News reports that the president of Gainax named 'Tomohiro Maki', allegedly taking nude images of a teenage woman and illegally touching her on the pretext that he was training her for photoshoots as an entertainer. Maki was arrested, at the time our writing, on the allegations of voyerism and other crimes relating to pre-determined sex.
'Wish Upon the Pleiades' was the last anime production of 'Gainax', five (5) years after the 1st Season of 'Panty and Stocking with Garterbelt', and almost 4 decades in the Japanese adult-rated animation legacy. Hiroyuki Imaishi, alongside other key people, already moved to other studios like 'Trigger' after the complete bankruptcy and shutting 'Gainax' down in June 2024.
Today, in the present, animation fans have something to look forward to as they are promised to be met with the same irreverent humor, over-the-top action sequences, and unique flair in animation that spearheaded the same first entry of the anime franchise. Studio Trigger is teasing exciting new story arcs and character development for a long-awaited payoff of about 15 years.
Following the news regarding the 'Gainax' bankruptcy, along new key visual was unveiled and other things, to ensure that 'Panty and Stocking with Garterbelt' Season 2 set tongues wagging again among fans, foreshadowing what would be an eventful return. The Anarchy angels of Daten City are back, leaving all set for what could well be another memorable return to the world of anime.
The new season is expected to air, and possibly streaming online next year in 2025, bringing back your favorite beloved characters for the mature-rated ones, along with their mentor and 'Rev. Fr. Garterbelt Christ', who will continue fighting villainous crimes in Daten City.

Video 📹 where Caitríona mentioned Geena Davis during the ATX TV Festival Outlander panel
By Chris Colin
Published May 25, 2023
Updated May 28, 2023
“Transforming Spaces” is a series about women driving change in sometimes unexpected places.
Geena Davis and her family were returning from dinner in their small Massachusetts town when her great-uncle Jack, 99, began drifting into the oncoming lane of traffic. Ms. Davis was about 8, flanked by her parents in the back seat. Politeness suffused the car, the family, maybe the era, and nobody remarked on what was happening, even when another car appeared in the distance, speeding toward them.
Finally, moments before impact, Ms. Davis’s grandmother issued a gentle suggestion from the passenger seat: “A little to the right, Jack.” They missed by inches.
Ms. Davis, 67, relayed this story in her 2022 memoir, “Dying of Politeness,” an encapsulation of the genially stultifying values that she had absorbed as a child — and that a great many other girls absorb, too: Defer. Go along to get along. Everything’s fine.
Of course the Academy Award-winning actress ditched that pliability long ago. From “Thelma & Louise” and “A League of Their Own” to this year’s coming-of-age drama, “Fairyland,” back-seat docility just wasn’t an option. Indeed, self-possession was her thing. (Or one of her things. Few profiles have failed to mention her Mensa membership, her fluency in Swedish or her Olympic-caliber archery prowess.) But cultivating her own audaciousness was only Phase 1.
Next year will mark two decades since the creation of the Geena Davis Institute on Gender in Media. When her daughter was a toddler, Ms. Davis couldn’t help noticing that male characters vastly outnumbered female characters in children’s TV and movies.
“I knew everything is completely imbalanced in the world,” she said recently. But this was the realm of make-believe; why shouldn’t it be 50/50?
It wasn’t just the numbers. How the women were represented, their aspirations, the way young girls were sexualized: Across children’s programming, Ms. Davis saw a bewilderingly warped vision of reality being beamed into impressionable minds. Long before “diversity, equity and inclusion” would enter the lexicon, she began mentioning this gender schism whenever she had an industry meeting.
“Everyone said, ‘No, no, no — it used to be like that, but it’s been fixed,’” she said. “I started to wonder, What if I got the data to prove that I’m right about this?”
Amid Hollywood’s trumpeted causes, Ms. Davis made it her mission to quietly harvest data. Exactly how bad is that schism? In what other ways does it play out? Beyond gender, who else is being marginalized? In lieu of speechifying and ribbons, and with sponsors ranging from Google to Hulu, Ms. Davis’s team of researchers began producing receipts.
Ms. Davis wasn’t the first to highlight disparities in popular entertainment. But by leveraging her reputation and resources — and by blasting technology at the problem — she made a hazy truth concrete and offered offenders a discreet path toward redemption. (While the institute first focused on gender data, its analyses now extend to race/ethnicity, L.G.B.T.Q.I.A.+, disability, age 50-plus and body type. Random awful finding: Overweight characters are more than twice as likely to be violent.)

Even when braced for it, the institute’s findings are staggering: In the 101 top-grossing G-rated films from 1990 to 2005, just 28 percent of speaking characters were female. Even in crowd scenes — even in animated crowd scenes — male characters vastly outnumber female ones. In the 56 top grossing films of 2018, women portrayed in positions of leadership were four times more likely than men to be shown naked. (The bodies of 15 percent of them were filmed in slow motion.) Where a century ago women had been fully central to the budding film industry, they were now a quantifiable, if sexy, afterthought.
“When she started to collect the data, it was kind of incredible,” said Hillary Hallett, a professor of American studies at Columbia University and the author of “Go West, Young Women! The Rise of Early Hollywood.” “This wasn’t a vague feeling anymore. You couldn’t claim this was just some feminist rant. It was like, ‘Look at these numbers.’”
Ms. Davis is by turns reserved and goofy offscreen — a thoughtful responder, an unbridled guffawer. (At one point she enunciated the word “acting” so theatrically that she feared it would be hard to spell in this article.) On a recent afternoon in Los Angeles, she took a break from illustrating the children’s book she had written, “The Girl Who Was Too Big for the Page.”
“I grew up very self-conscious about being the tallest kid — not just the tallest girl — in my class,” she said. “I had this childhood-long wish to take up less space in the world.”
In time she began to look beyond her height — six feet — to the insidious messages reinforcing such insecurity.
“Hollywood creates our cultural narrative — its biases trickle down to the rest of the world,” she said in “This Changes Everything,” the 2018 documentary she produced about gender inequity in the film industry. The documentary takes its name from the incessant refrain she kept hearing after the success of “Thelma & Louise,” and later “A League of Their Own.” Finally the power and profitability of female-centric movies had been proven — this changes everything! And then, year after year, nothing.

It was here that Ms. Davis planted her stake in the ground — a contention around why certain injustices persist, and how best to combat them. Where movements like #MeToo and Times Up target deliberate acts of monstrosity, hers would be the squishier universe of unconscious bias. Did you unthinkingly cast that doctor as a male? Hire that straight white director because he shares your background? Thought you were diversifying your film, only to reinforce old stereotypes? (Fiery Latina, anyone?)
It’s a dogged optimism that powers Ms. Davis’s activism — a faith that Hollywood can reform voluntarily. When she goes to a meeting now, she’s armed with her team’s latest research, and with conviction that improvement will follow.
“Our theory of change relies on the content creators to do good,” said Madeline Di Nonno, the president and the chief executive of the institute. “As Geena says, we never shame and blame. You have to pick your lane, and ours has always been, ‘We collaborate with you and want you to do better.’”
If a car full of polite Davises can awaken to oncoming danger, perhaps filmmakers can come to see the harm they’re perpetuating.
“Everyone isn’t out there necessarily trying to screw women or screw Black people,” said Franklin Leonard, a film and television producer and founder of the Black List, a popular platform for screenplays that have not been produced. “But the choices they make definitely have that consequence, regardless of what they believe about their intent.”
He added: “It’s not something people are necessarily aware of. And there’s no paper trail — it can only be revealed in aggregate. Which gets to the value of Geena’s work.”
“Hollywood creates our cultural narrative— its biases trickle down to the rest of the world,” Ms Davis said in This Changes Everything, the 2018 documentary she produced about gender inequity in the film industry. Magdalena Wosinska for The New York Times
Unique to the institute’s efforts is its partnership with the University of Southern California’s Signal Analysis and Interpretation Laboratory, which uses software and machine learning to analyze scripts and other media. One tool born of that collaboration, Spellcheck for Bias, employs AI to scan scripts for stereotypes and other problematic choices. (Janine Jones-Clark, the executive vice president for inclusion for NBCUniversal’s global talent development and inclusion team, recalled a scene in a television show in which a person of color seemed to be acting in a threatening manner toward another character. Once flagged by the software, the scene was reshot.)
Still, progress has been mixed. In 2019 and 2020, the institute reported that gender parity for female lead characters had been achieved in the 100 highest-grossing family films and in the top Nielsen-rated children’s television shows. Nearly 70 percent of industry executives familiar with the institute’s research made changes to at least two projects.
But women represented just 18 percent of directors working on the top 250 films of 2022, up only 1 percent from 2021, according to the Center for the Study of Women in Television and Film; the percentage of major Asian and Asian American female characters fell from 10 percent in 2021 to under 7 percent in 2022. A 2021 McKinsey report showed that 92 percent of film executives were white — less diverse than Donald Trump’s cabinet at the time, as Mr. Leonard of the Black List noted.
“I think the industry is more resistant to change than anybody realizes,” he added. “So I’m incredibly appreciative of anyone — and especially someone with Geena’s background — doing the non-glamorous stuff of trying to change it, being in the trenches with Excel spreadsheets.”
Ms. Davis has not quit her day job. (Coming soon: a role in “Pussy Island,” a thriller from Zoe Kravitz in her directorial debut.) But acting shares a billing with her books, the diversity-focused Bentonville Film Festival she started in Arkansas in 2015 — even the roller coasters she rides for equity. (Yes, Thelma is now Disney’s gender consultant for its theme parks and resorts.)
“We’re definitely heading in the right direction,” she said. “Bill Gates called himself an impatient optimist, and that feels pretty good for what I am.”
A correction was made on May 26, 2023: An earlier version of this article misspelled the surname of the president and chief executive of the Geena Davis Institute on Gender in Media. She is Madeline Di Nonno, not Di Donno. The error was repeated in a photo caption.
A correction was made on May 28, 2023: An earlier version of this article incorrectly stated the number of Academy Awards Ms. Davis received. She won one Oscar for her supporting performance in “The Accidental Tourist,” and was nominated for a second Academy Award for “Thelma & Louise.”

While I’m already here, I believe he is planning to watch episodes 9 to 11 tomorrow. So hopefully I can send you updates sometime tomorrow. He slowed down because he realized he only has a few episodes this season left and he is scared to watch because 1) cancer 2)not ready to end the season and 3) britin broke up. I can tell that he is dreading finishing up the season and then also s5. And when he spoke to my neighbor about it, he told her that he is sad that he’s so close to the ending. I am genuinely not ready for him to finish because 1) what the fuck do i do afterwards?! The finale fucks ME up every time, so i don’t know what to expect And 2) i will have some stuff to come clean about. But my plan of action so far is, i might immediately afterwards show him the ATX panel and maybe the gag reel or something else that could be nice and sweet and make him happy (i even kind of entertained the idea of showing him Randy’s podcast because i know he will be sad after the finale). So I will be back to our regular scheduled programming sometime tomorrow :)
What will we all do when he finishes? I love the idea of the bloopers and the ATX panel. I love the idea of him learning that he is "tumblr famous" for a fandom of barely double digits. I love the idea of introducing him to fan fiction to soothe the hurt of the finale.
Very excited to see his response to "eating some fucking chicken soup." I think he's going to be Team Justin around that.

If you still want to move into the Sunshine State when you hit 62, you should consider various factors to make a clear-headed decision about this significant life change.
Is Florida Losing Its Appeal to Retirees?
Make no mistake about it — the Land of Flowers continues to attract the most golden-agers crossing state lines for retirement. In 2022, it magnetized 11.8% of out-of-state pensioners in the nation and the only one to grab a share above 10%.
However, Florida doesn’t have the distinction of hosting the most number of people aged 65 and above, nor does it record the highest percentage of seniors relative to its population. Two reasons can explain these phenomena.
Competition
Floridian towns aren’t as compelling to some retiring baby boomers as other American cities. Austin takes the cake, seeing its population of adults over 65 ballooned by 90.4% from 2010 to 2020. The other big gainers were:
Boise, Idaho
Atlanta, Georgia
Raleigh-Durham, North Carolina
Houston, Texas
Charleston, South Carolina
ATX has a booming tech hub. The influx of young people relocating to the Texas capital for employment opportunities has inspired an inundation of oldsters.
In 2021, Mesa, Arizona, tallied a net migration of over 3,600 older residents — the country’s highest. Henderson, Nevada, netted over 1,600 while San Antonio had over 1,100. Rounding out the top five were North Las Vegas, Nevada, and Boise, Idaho, with over 1,000 net retirees each.
The biggest selling point of the Valley’s gateway is its climate. It's warm and low-humidity — a comforting combination for old-timers. Plus, it’s conveniently close to Phoenix while costing significantly less.
Aging in Place
With a median age of 44.7 years old, Maine is the oldest state in the country. Although its retirement-age population is small by national standards, seniors represent 21.8% of its citizenry. What’s more, most of the boomers calling it home are local-born. Mainers exemplify aging in place more strongly than any other Americans.
A 2022 survey found that 88% of U.S. adults aged 50-80 believe staying in their houses for as long as possible is important. Most of Florida’s retirees originate outside its borders. The peninsula may receive fewer retirees in the future if the positive sentiments toward aging in place remain pervasive.
3 Things to Consider Before Moving to Florida for Retirement
Other states and cities are gaining a reputation for being retirement paradises, but it doesn’t mean Florida has gotten undesirable. It remains on its throne because no other place can offer a better package for retirees.
Still, the Citrus Capital appeals only to specific seniors. Use these three factors as a litmus test for its suitability for you.
1. Cost of Living
The Orange State is the nation’s fastest-growing, but it’s bigger than census data suggests. It appeals to students, entrepreneurs, workers and snowbirds, not just retirees. Plus, it’s the most touristy state — more than 137 million people visited it in 2022. The larger the crowd, the more expensive goods and services can be.
The massive number of people wanting to live or stay in Florida has resulted in scorching local real estate markets. Home values average $383,000, but they can surpass $560,000 in Miami and other urban centers. Insurance premiums can also be pricey due to the state’s susceptibility to catastrophes.
Rent in Florida can go through the roof. Notable rental markets, such as Orlando, Palm Bay, Tampa, Cape Coral and North Port, exceed the national average, rendering many residents considerably rent-burdened.
Food and health care can also be expensive in the Everglade State. While the theme park capital of the world has plenty of entertainment options, the price of watching movies, visiting amusement parks and experiencing live sports games can be steep.
Although the state has diverse modes of public transportation in metro areas, the typical Floridian owns a private vehicle. You can go electric to avoid gas expenses, but monthly utilities, including electricity, in the state are higher than in many parts of the country.
Considering Florida’s cost of living, converting some of your assets into cash before moving may be wise. Decide which properties to leave your heirs and which ones to sell. The least burdensome assets for your loved ones to cash in are prime candidates for liquidation. Putting them on the block can expose them to more serious buyers, sell them quickly and get as much value from them as possible.
2. Wildlife
The Manatee State has world-class natural wonders, but its breathtaking landscape can harbor terrifying fauna. Depending on where you stay, you may encounter alligators, bears, panthers, herons, pelicans, snakes or dolphins.
Many of these creatures are usually no threat to humans unless they feel threatened. They can be dangerous, but they won’t bite if you get out of their way and treat them respectfully. They’re Florida natives, so learn how to coexist with them.
As a general rule, avoid intruding into their habitats to discourage them from becoming territorial. Also, limit your interactions with them. They’re wild animals, so you can’t expect them to be tame or tolerant of humans.
3. Weather
Florida goes by the nickname the Sunshine State for a reason. It gets 230-250 days of sunshine yearly. These days can be humid but pleasant news if you’re outdoorsy and love to socialize. However, the other days can be menacing.
Florida gets the most hurricanes out of all the states. About two to three make landfall in its southernmost region. Category-3 Hurricane Idalia — the only landfalling hurricane the country saw in 2023 — got close to Keaton Beach, causing up to 12 feet of storm surge inundation and flooding the southeast with heavy downpours.
Floridian cities are some of the most vulnerable to climate change, too. Rising sea levels and frequent coastal flooding will exacerbate the usual natural disasters the Hurricane State endures once the effects of global warming are in full swing.
Coastal waters surpassed the flooding thresholds of Fernandina Beach, Cedar Key, Pensacola, Mayport and St. Petersburg for more days on average from 2013 to 2022 than they did from 1950 to 1959. These figures indicate the sea had been encroaching on these communities more frequently — evidence of worsening climate change. Frequent coastal flooding threatens the Florida residents’ health and safety and the structural integrity of waterfront properties.
Regarding seasons, the Gulf State’s climate is too mild to notice changes between spring, summer, fall and winter. If you love how the environment transforms as seasons roll around, Florida may not be for you.
Should You Start Your Life’s Next Chapter in Florida?
The Retirement State doesn’t have it all, but millions of pensioners consider it the closest to perfection. If what Florida offers suits your lifestyle and budget, you’ll have the time of your life there.
